It starts out on a peaceful afternoon. I imagine that no matter how busy the Arbiter-General of the Luofu is, he likes to occasionally take breaks from the Seat of Divine Foresight to take a stroll or visit places on the ship to see how things are going. Despite his fame, I like to think that people have enough respect for their dear general that when he's out on these outings, they'll allow him his privacy.

On these walks, he likes to find something to eat if the timing is right. Seeing as it's just past lunch and he's yet to eat, Jing Yuan supposed it would be good to find somewhere to grab a bite while he was out.

It's then that Jing Yuan stumbles across your bakery. Initially he merely listed it as an option in the back of his mind, filing it away as a new bakery he'd have to try out later or maybe now if none of the other places suited his fancy that day. But then as he began to pass... The smell that wafted out from the door as a smiling customer left the building convinced him to go inside. He was pleased to find that while it did have Xianzhou specialties, it also had foods from beyond the fleet's norm.

Another thing that he was pleasantly surprised with was you, the owner of the bakery. Even with the unspoken rule of allowing the general his leisure time in peace, many would at least gawp at him for a bit before poorly hiding their awe and shock at seeing him in their shop. But you merely waved at him just as you did the customer who'd entered before him. The feeling of being treated just as a normal person was... Very nice. Jing Yuan's ever present smile widened a tad as he nodded to you before going back to perusing the options behind the glass of the counters.

He decided to get a wife cake (sweetheart cake) to enjoy on his way back to his office. The exchange between you two was easy and pleasant. You did your job and nothing more. Though- it was done with a smile and in such a way that he felt quite comfortable.

When he left, he glanced at you again. You were seeing other customers, not sparing him another glance.

Taking a bite of the wife cake, he found that it was better than any he remembered having before and the flavor brought back memories of times gone by. How lovely. Perhaps he'd have to visit your bakery again.

And he certainly did. Over time, the two of you built up a rapport. You were his favorite baker, and he, your loyal customer. Something about your baking made him feel warm inside. When he asked what you did to make them taste so good, you would respond that you baked them in the hopes of each good you sold bringing just a little more joy to the lives of those who ate them. He chuckled and said that it was surprisingly believable.

At some point, he became aware of the fact that the two of you were becomming... quite close. Concerningly so.

I like to think that with the life he's lead and with the personality he has, Jing Yuan is the type of person to give his affections freely. But his trust is hard won. Sitting in the seat of an Arbiter-General, not only has he had to lead troops to victory, but he's had to manuever on the political battlefield as well. After holding his title for longer than most of his peers and having to be the one so plan behind the scenes... Always planning ten steps ahead of everyone else... It would be hard to put his trust in others. Especially when you add on what happened to his old friends. Sometimes, no matter how good he is at what he does, fate will take matters into its own hands.

So when he notices this predicament... he's a bit... afraid, honestly. Huh- The Divine Foresight himself, afraid? It was the truth. He was still mortal and still had his fears and flaws.

Even so, he had no real reason to avoid you. Especially because he thought it would be best to continue as normal so as to not alarm you. You two did have a solid friendship after all this time... As much as you could when he held you at arms length.

Yet there was still tension there. In the brush of fingers when Jing Yuan handed over his payments and when you'd give him what he'd bought. The smiles the two of you would exchange. The heartfelt words that you gave Jing Yuan even when he was trying to keep a firm distance between the two of you. It made him feel a bit guilty for keeping a wall up when you were none the wiser... And perhaps the kicker was the way his heart felt full of warmth when eating the pasteries and other snacks you'd prepared for him specifically that morning, knowing he'd be in. The simple pleasure of always knowing you'd have food he'd more than enjoy ready for him. Knowing that you made it for him. Knowing you cared enough to do so. Knowing how much care and love you put into everything he ate.

And it was a moment like that in which he realized he was already too far gone.

He had been enjoying one of his favorites of yours while sitting in your shop, having enough time that afternoon to do so. He was brought back to memories of his old friends and comrads... And this time. Warm, fond memories of you. That was... new. It was then that he heard your laughter, causing the man to look up as you patted the hand of a woman who was smiling widely at you. She had been thanking you profusely for your help in making her anniversary with her boyfriend so wonderful. They had both loved the pastries and said that it seemed to make their hearts even more filled that day.

Oh.

Oh no.

His eyes crinkled as he felt a smile stretch across his face, unbidden.

He was in love with you.

From that point on, he subtly did what he could to become even closer to you. Let down his walls and allow you in. Just you. He did things to subtly court you, as well. Little gifts here and there that show his sincerety and that he remembered the things you said to him. Sometimes this would include ingredients you needed for the bakery. Eventually, he even gifts you a hairpin (even if you don't have long hair, this is mostly for the symbolism).

It was that gift that made you realize his intentions. It was a quiet morning, even before you opened shop that he stood in the back with you, under the artificial light of the shop and in casual wear due to a day off he took for this. Quietly and softly he told you that he had a gift for you and took your hand gently in his to place the elegant hairpin. He softly closed your hand around it with the hand that had previously been holding the hairpin, your hand and said hairpin held tenderly between his two larger, calloused and scarred hands. When you looked up into his eyes, searching, you saw how they had narrowed and clinkled at the edges with his warm smile. This was not a side of him you'd ever seen before in more than the barest of glimpses.

With a slow grin that he matched when he saw it, you leaned up to wrap your arms around his neck to pull him down into a kiss.

It seemed that not only your food could warm his heart.

i was catching up on your blog, and honestly your, or well, your PCs' opinion abt Sydney is so fascinating to me. when i first played the game for real (after trying to previous times and ending up in the forest being raped by wolves and kidnapped by Eden without knowing wtf was going on, and then my second try ending up in a rape cycle that ended in the asylum) i started pursuing Sydney for the first time, thinking that she'd be like every other goody-two-shoes uninteresting character that is usually a part of dating games, the stereotype that fails to interest me no matter what. then i found out i could corrupt her, and i decided to make her "fall from grace" together with my PC, and the more i interacted w her the more and more i fell in love w her character, to the point that my PC became as obsessed w her as she is with him

Sydney might honestly be my favorite LI, so to find someone who doesn't like them v much is quite the interesting experience lol. i think the part that most called my attention is the privilege part of their character that you brought up, and i think that stuck w me mostly bc i never truly saw Sydney's "privilege" like that. Sydney never gave me the impression that they were completely oblivious to everything and anything wrong that happens in the world just bc it doesn't affect them - quite the opposite, actually

Sydney isnt immune to the world they live in, not a single character in this game is (which is why i love it sm tbh). they might be extremely sheltered and protected as much as Sirris and the temple are able to make them, but when you pray w them in the temple and someone comes by to harass you she knows exactly what is happening and how to stop it. she's probably been harassed by monks and nuns as well, and unable to fight back without losing her grace. that's without even going into the Leighton punishment event, and how they react to it, which i think gives a v good view into how they cope w the world they live in depending on whether they are pure or corrupted and how that affects their interactions w PC...

ok im just rambling now, my point is, Sydney is a very interesting and complex character to me and seeing your interpretation of them was really interesting/insightful, and gave me some answers to things in your PCs' story that i used to question but always forgot to send an ask abt (such as their distaste for Sydney). thanks for reading my ramble, i love the things you're doing w your PCs and how you interpret their world <3

Just in case you still don't understand the nature of the situation, the "privileged" part can be translated into "ENVY"

Sydney has had good things growing up. PC has nothing of those, which I have mentioned. "Why can they be optimistic? Why can they believe in the good in people? Why their parent doesn't demand they rent every week? Why do they have parents but I and Robin don't? Why can't I and Robin have those things that they have?..."

It's bitter, but I firmly believe, just like a redeemed bully can never achieve true peace, a sheltered child growing up with a silver spoon inside their mouth can never understand poverty and desperation either. Something bad happens to them, but they have family and financial support to overcome it, that's why they can stay pure and stay good. Robin stays ignorant too, they essentially avoid the outside world completely and if PC doesn't step up to protect them, they're ruined. That's what happens with pureness and goodness if they bloom in mud, unprotected. That's what happens on a daily basis with the children of the orphanage.

That's why my PCs are Robin's protectors. I make them taste the bitterness when realizing some things even try as they might, they can never achieve, while Sydney has those things handed to them, lovingly and matter-of-factly, as easily as falling to sleep in a soft fluffy bed. To me, that's what makes them even more protective of their waifu/malewife and more determined to shelter Robin as much as possible. They strive to give Robin what Sydney's having, their childhood together sucks so yeah let's try hard for a better future :D

As for Sydney... Well, unless future updates give them some trauma, throw them into some real fuck up situation like what PC faced daily, or reveal that they had some beef with Harper in the past and had lifelong psychological trauma, I don't think I can give them more credit.

Dating the Side Characters

Description: General headcanons of what it’s like to date the obey me side characters. (Gn!reader)

Warnings: None

Dia, Dia, Dia…so he’s a bit out of practice with dating norms and, well, society in general. But what he lacks in knowledge, he makes up for in enthusiasm and sweetness. If he says or does something strange, or recommends an unusual date option, tell him. It’s better to be straightforward with him than try to spare his feelings.

Speaking of which, he canonically hates it when people “walk on eggshells” around him. Don’t be afraid to tell him the truth or your real thoughts. He won’t be angry, in fact he’ll respect you even more for it.

He doesn’t have a lot of free time, which is something you need to be okay with. Don’t try to make him shirk his duties just to spend time with you. It will make Barbatos resent you, and Diavolo will just have to make up the work anyway. Instead, you two could do your work together and spend whatever time you have leftover doing something fun. (I’d recommend bringing a book—the stack of papers on his desk is a foot high).

He will put his duties as prince above your relationship. In addition, your relationship will always have a political undertone, especially with the more obstinate nobles. Even when you two are going through a spat, you may have to plaster a smile on for the cameras just to keep disparaging comments at bay.

Most of your dates will be spent in the Castle. Tea dates (which Barbatos provides the BEST snacks for), walking through the gardens, or dinner will be very common dates over the course of your relationship.

He goes all out for your birthday. He was willing to buy Lucifer a plot of land for a “vacation.” I don’t want to think about the lengths he would go to to ensure your happiness.

Extraordinarily cuddly. I mean, when your dad’s the Demon King and is taking a thousand-year-long nap and the only other constant since then has been Barbatos, you don’t really get a lot of affection. He also doesn’t have the time to seek it out, so once he has you…oh boy. He’s incredibly strong, so don’t expect to escape his arms unless you’re extremely convincing.

My malewife senses are tingling…No, I’m serious. Barbie here would take such good care of you, even if you try to tell him he’s doing too much because you feel guilty. His love language is acts of service. And, trust me, he’ll feel much better after he’s dusted your room and made you dinner. Also tea. He will make you a special blend that you are certain to like, even if you don’t usually like tea.

He’s a bit distant at first, mostly because he’s readjusting to romantic relationships. It’s been so long since he’s felt like he’s been allowed to be loved and cherished by someone. On days where he’s not quite sure how to proceed, don’t be afraid to guide him.

He believes that there is a time and a place for physical affection. He thinks it’s indecent to be seen being affectionate in public. He’ll hold your hand or press soft kisses to the back of it, but that’s about it for him. He’s extremely open to affection once in private. His favorite way to display this would be giving you random kisses as he’s bustling around the castle, taking care of his work.

Like Diavolo, he’s going to put his work before your relationship. It’s been a constant in his life for thousands of years, and he views his greatest duty as serving Diavolo. It’s nothing personal, and he still loves you. However, his biggest priority is serving the prince and, by extension, the Devildom itself.

I think that Barbatos, once he got used to it, would have the healthiest relationship out of the entire cast. He has a well-developed personality, multiple hobbies outside of the relationship, and a higher sense of duty, so his entire world isn’t reliant on you. In addition, he has his priorities straight but is willing to compromise. He is also very adamant about setting and following boundaries.

He won’t use his time powers for you. But, to be fair, he doesn’t even use them for himself.

You’re like his little safe space where he can go and be more than just a butler. You get to experience the fullest scope of his personality, which is something he doesn’t usually trust people with. He trusts and loves you very deeply.

Solomon has been alive for a long, unspecified amount of time. He’s had numerous lovers through the years, but you are the most special to him. No one has ever been able to rival his power, and he feels like he finally has a true equal.

He’s a bit hesitant to put his whole heart into a relationship at first. He’s outlived so many human partners, and he’s weary of the heartbreak that comes with it. He wants to express his love for you, but he just needs a bit of time to fully come to terms with the implications of a relationship.

He is mischievous. He’ll play pranks on you all the time, most of which are under the guise of “experimental potions” he makes. Other times, he’ll recruit you to prank other people. He is especially fond of pranking the brothers.

Solomon will show you off whenever he can, especially in the Devildom. He likes to rub it in the brothers’ faces. And, since he knows you’re super popular amongst the general population, he will brag about you to make other people jealous.

It’s best to give up on teaching him to cook. If you’re good at cooking, please take over for him. If you’re not good at cooking, just let Simeon do it. He’d be happy to if it means that everyone’s gastrointestinal tracts stay safe.

He will drag you on any adventures he goes on. Does he need to climb a mountain to get this very specific flower for a new spell he’s working on? You’re coming with him.

He’s really sweet at heart and just wants to love you. He’s not super physically affectionate, but he’s more than willing to give it if that’s what you need. He tends to express his love through his words, and he always makes sure to say “I love you” before he goes anywhere.

A literal angel. He is extremely sweet and compassionate. He will make sure you always have a safe, quiet space to go to if you need to vent. You are always welcome to visit Purgatory Hall whenever you need it.

He is extremely gentle and tends to be on the timid side. He can and will stand up for himself, but it takes him a while to reach his breaking point with this. Don’t be afraid to step in if somebody’s disrespecting him. He could use some help with setting boundaries in this sense.

Communication king. He always makes sure to let you know what’s going on with him and his life, and expects you to do the same. He wants to be kept in the loop. He’s also ready to support you at the drop of a hat, so knowing what activities you have coming up makes it easier for him to show his support.

Baking dates! He loves being in the kitchen with you and thinks it’s one of the best ways for you two to bond. Expect every cutesy kitchen trope: flour fights, nose boops with whipped cream, and sugar-filled kisses.

Simeon is on the receiving end of a lot of angelic resentment from demons. He tries his hardest to shield Luke from it, but in doing so, he receives the brunt of it. Be there for him when it starts to weigh on him. Give him a self-love day where you shower him in all of his favorite things.

Expect more “juvenile” affection at first. Simeon is super comfortable with hand-holding, face kisses, pecks, and cuddling. It may take him time to feel comfortable progressing with the intensity of his affection. Like Barbatos, he’s been expected to behave a certain way for a very long time, so he just needs time to warm up to it.

He will write you love poems and leave them around your room for you to find. He’ll also write you little love stories. This is one way he expresses his love. Most of these stories or poems reveal how he truly feels about you and your relationship, so pay attention to common themes.

Our resident wet blanket of a man. (This is just a side note, but his character design is so pathetic and adorable to me. I absolutely love him for no reason.) Very limited knowledge on social cues, but he’s still more well-versed than Diavolo is.

He’s very distant at first. He’s the least used to affection because his usual relationships are all formal, and he maintains a strict professionalism with most people.

Once he realizes his feelings, he isn’t one to hide them. He is extremely blunt and very forward with how he feels and what he thinks. You can always expect him to be straightforward and honest with you. He’s not a big fan of people who hide their true intentions, and he will never try to manipulate or play games with you. He expects the same level of communication in return.

However, just because he is straightforward with how he feels, doesn’t mean he’s straightforward with his more…amorous desires. He’s extremely timid with romantic advances, mostly because he’s been raised thinking that humans are weak beings. He’s just afraid that he’s going to hurt you. All you need to do is show him that you’re not going to break, and that will help with some of his timidness.

He’s also a little embarrassed that he feels this way for you. He won’t take too well to teasing because he’ll just freeze up and back off. If you validate his feelings and show him that 1) it’s okay to feel this way and 2) you feel the same way towards him, he’ll be infinitely more comfortable in your relationship.

He’s very protective. His love for you coupled with his underlying unease at being in the Devildom makes him want to look out for you even more than he already would. He knows you can take care of yourself, but he’s always willing to lend an extra hand, or spear, if you need it.

He may be a fan of Solomon’s cooking, but that doesn’t mean he can’t cook. That’s not to say he’s on, say, Simeon’s level, but he’s competent in the kitchen. And what he makes won’t kill you, so it’s really a win-win.

Mephisto is a bit of an enigma. You’re never really sure of his feelings or intentions. He somehow manages to express his emotions while being impossible to read. Needless to say, he wears A LOT of masks, so most of your early bonding comes from taking these masks off. He’s been strictly trained into the role of unflappable, inscrutable demon noble. He is always trying to appear perfect and hide his true self. So when you come around and start poking and prying away at these masks, he begins to panic and double down.

Inevitably, though, his masks begin to fall away. At first, it’s just cracks—you see the joy and love he has for his younger brother, the time and care he puts into his horses—and this just draws you in more. He feels more comfortable around you because you don’t have expectations of him. You don’t poke fun at him or degrade him for being less than perfect. He begins to feel at ease, and you quickly become one of the only people to see his true self.

He will spoil you to death. As his loved one, he believes you deserve only the finest of things in life. Whatever you set your sights on, you get, no questions asked. You mention a cool jacket you saw in a window display? It’s waiting for you on your bed with a bouquet of fresh roses. You see a cute pair of shoes at Majolish? He’s hand delivering them to the House of Lamentation.

Mephisto doesn’t really have close relationships, and he never has. Now that he has you, he is whipped. He will quite literally worship the ground you walk on, but he would die of embarrassment if you or, frankly, anybody else found that out.

He’s somebody who just deeply craves kindness. Please be nice to him. Show him affection, give him all the sweet things that he’s missed out on.

He is absolutely one of those people whose entire personality changes the moment they get into a relationship. His harsh, arrogant exterior begins to melt away. All of a sudden he’s much more easy-going and forgiving. The entire student body of RAD thanks you for whatever magic you’re working with him.

He’s lowkey insecure about his relationship with Diavolo and how Lucifer fits into his life. Reassure him and be there for him—he is his own demon and other people’s relationships don’t define him. He feels replaced by Lucifer. A little bit of reassurance goes a long way with him.

Last but not least, Thirteen. To say your relationship began with a rocky start is an understatement. Not only did you break into her cave, you’re Solomon’s apprentice. If there’s one thing she hates more than people breaking into her own home, it’s Solomon.

She likes your spunk and your overall demeanor. You’re kind but you also don’t let people walk all over you. She finds that immensely attractive despite being put-off by your close bond to Solomon and, honestly, the rest of the cast. She doesn’t particularly care for any of them.

Her favorite way to bond is by working on her traps together. Her traps are extremely important to her, and she’s letting you into her world through working on them together. However, when it comes to you, they tend to be more lovely dovey than “let me try to capture Solomon in a net for the 6th time this week.”

She’s not a super sweet, compassionate person. Of course she cares, but she’s more likely to give you a pep talk or reality check to go kick some ass than a soft, gentle hug and kiss.

Because she’s a go-go-go type of person, her affection can read as aggressive. She holds you tightly and presses hard kisses to your lips. She just has a short window of time to express her affection, but she still wants you to feel loved. This is her compromise.

She has a very stressful, demanding job. The best thing you can do for her after a long day? A massage wherever she needs it. She will eat that up and be yours forever. Pamper her a little bit and she is over the moon.

She LOVES when you play with her hair. She may be a little fussy at first because it takes time to get it to look that good, but she’ll melt so quickly once your hands are on her scalp.

Despite being a scientist, I do not think that Jonathan can cook. Although, (being a father before… y’know) I think that he learned to bake some small things like cupcakes and cookies for his son... Now he bakes for you!

He would be the breadmaker, absolutely. He didn’t make a ton, but he never wanted you to work for too long and encouraged you to take days off when you only felt a little ill.

He's usually nervous around you most of the time because of how happy you make him, but he's awkward and doesn't know how to express it in words. This results in a lot of gift-giving and caring for you, constantly making sure that you're happy and comfortable.

He feels so lucky to have you. Likely struggles with overthinking and needs reassurance that you love him. (Because you both already know that he’s head over heels for you.)

Now that Spot wasn’t able to get a job, he spent most days… how do I say… being a criminal.

When you were in a shop and you saw something you liked, he would know. He could sense it. While you were out working, he was sleeping in your (technically shared) bed, doing your laundry, cleaning your desk, doing your dishes. He would do anything in service of you if it reminded him of your presence.

Extremely clingy when you do get home after work. Because as much as he doesn’t want to admit it, he was thinking about you the whole time you were gone.

It took Ken some time to realise that he was enough, or ‘Kenough’, as he’d put it. After Barbie had left Barbieland, it took him a while to feel himself again. But with it came a lot of realisations. He realised that doing beach was a lot easier when his mind wasn’t focused on Barbie, and he was able to talk to people he wouldn’t usually notice. It was a nice change, Ken had to admit.

He also realised how much he enjoyed being around other Barbies and Kens, whether it would be at a big blowout party, or cheering on the Barbies as they played volleyball. Friendship was another fairly new thing to Ken. While he’d known everyone for almost his entire existence, he realised he never really knew them. Being able to understand and relate to his fellow Barbies and Kens was an experience he never thought he would have. Without his focus on Barbie, he found that being able to lend a hand to a friend was also another thing he was quite good at. And often, it came with a small reward, which always kept a smile on Ken’s face.

He’s constantly seen helping out his friends. Whether it be fixing Lawyer Barbie’s car, or helping another Ken’s beach, he always enjoyed being able to lend a hand to a friend. It was always left him with a bubbly feeling in his stomach, and a grin permanently stuck on his face. Who knew helping a friend would be so enjoyable?

He also enjoyed lending a hand to Chef Barbie. She had the sweetest smile, and after every task he helped her with, he would get a reward in the form of food. And company. Ken appreciated the company more than the food, not that he would ever admit this out loud to Barbie. Sure, the pastries were downright delicious, but nothing could replace the soft-sound laugh she let out at his jokes, or the look of anticipation on her face when he was telling her a story.

“Thanks Ken!” Barbie waved from the window of her Dreamhouse, watching as Ken held two bags of groceries out, undoubtedly for a new recipe she wanted to try out.

“It’s not a problem, Barbie. I’m happy to help.” A shy smile graced his lips as he placed the groceries down on her kitchen bench. He’d turned to leave, when the call from Barbie stopped him.

“Why don’t you stay here while I cook, I feel like I haven’t seen you in a while.”

Ken was suppressing a smile, “I don’t know, there might be some more people to help out.” It was a lie. There was no one else to help. Ken was going to stay regardless.

“Oh, sit you,” Barbie giggled, pulling out a chair, “You’ll be helping me by keeping me company. And being my taste tester, of course.”

Ken paused, as if to think about it, but the both of them knew he was going to stay. “Seeing as you really need me, it would be impolite for me to go now,” Ken explained, as he walked towards the pulled-out chair, completely mesmerised by Barbie as she started combining ingredients in a mixing bowl. A strong smell of chocolate filled the room, and Ken let out a soft hum of delight.

“Smells good?” Barbie turned around, smiling, and Ken nodded his head eagerly.

“Always does. What exactly are you making?”

Barbie hummed, turning back around to place the mixture onto a tray. “It’s a surprise, but it’s going to taste amazing, I promise.”

“I’m sure it will, I mean it already smells so good.” Ken stood up from his chair, making his way to the kitchen. “D’you want me to wash those dishes for you? Get it out of your way?”

“If you’d like to, that would be perfect. Thanks Ken!” Barbie beamed, sliding the dish into the oven.

“Woah! Barbie, I know I say this everytime, but this is most definitely the best thing you’ve made so far!” Ken said, in between bites of what Barbie had called a ‘Brownkie’, the perfect mix between a brownie and a cookie.

Barbie giggled, “Thanks Ken, I’m glad to know it tastes good. I’m going to bring it to Barbie’s blowout tonight, think they’d enjoy it?” Once a week, President Barbie would host a blowout with all the other Barbies. After some discussion, it was agreed that a party every night was too much, and only holding a party once a week allowed for more excitement.

“Oh they’d more than enjoy it, trust me!” Ken exclaimed. “I don’t know how you do it, everything you cook is always just perfect.”

Barbie shrugs. “Lots of practice.” She pauses, looking away before looking back at him. “Hey Ken?”

“Yeah?”

Barbie looked down at her hands, then looked back at him. “Do you think you’d wanna come to Barbie’s blowout with me?”

Ken’s eyes widened. Whatever he thought she was going to say, it most certainly wasn’t that. “I- uhh, yeah of course!” Identical grins appeared on their faces.

“So, I’ll see you there tonight?” Barbie asked, and Ken nodded vigorously.

“Thank you for the Brownkie, I gotta get ready, but I’ll see you there!”

As she was getting ready, Barbie could feel a small pounding in her head. It hurt. She was unsure what it was, she’d never felt something like that before. She shook her head, pushing it out of her mind. It was President Barbie’s blowout, she couldn’t be thinking of silly things like that.

She walked towards the kitchen, grabbing the platter of goodies she’d made earlier, including the Brownkies that Ken had enjoyed. The pounding had only gotten worse as she continued to get ready. She tried to ignore it, she really did, but the more she focused on ignoring the pain, it had just gotten worse. Barbie clutched her head as she walked, the platter precariously balanced on her free arm.

The sound of music filled her ears, but only made her head pain worse. What was this thing, and why did it have to come now? And why was the room spinning?

“Barbie!” She heard Ken call out, but she couldn’t quite place him. She felt… strange. She was almost positive she was standing still, but it felt like she’d was moving really fast. The lights hurt the pounding in her head, but the music had gotten quieter. She heard a faraway clang, and she looked to her arm, the tray of baked goods gone. Barbie could hear Ken calling her name, and she swore he was standing in front of her, but she couldn’t quite make it out.

“Ken?” she whispered, a chill spreading throughout her body. She felt someone touch her arms, but it was too late. Barbie had collapsed into Ken’s arms.

“Someone help!” Ken called out. He was stressed, which is something he should not be feeling. In fact, he was here for a stress free night with all the other Barbies and Kens, but of course, something like this had to happen.

Barbie’s eyes fluttered open, and Ken let out a gasp of relief.

“What happened?” her voice was soft.

“I-I’m not sure, you looked really funny, a-and I was in front of you and it was like you couldn’t see me and then you just fell.”

Doctor Barbie came around the corner, assessing Chef Barbie. “I’ve never seen anything like this before. But from what I’ve learnt, it should be nothing. Just take it easy for a few days, and you’ll be fine.” Ken grinned, feeling relieved.

“Let me take you home. I’ll take care of you for the next few days.”

“Ken, you don’t have to do that, I’ll be fine, don’t worry.” Barbie smiled gratefully.

“Are you joking? I’m worrying a lot! Doctor Barbie just said she hasn’t seen anything like this! Barbies don’t get sick! I’m staying with you, and you aren’t leaving your bed until you get better!”

“Ken, what about beach?” Barbie tilted her head. She knew how much he loved his job.

“Beach is the last thing on my mind right now, I need to make sure you’re okay.” Ken smiled as he stood up, holding Barbie in his arms.

“You know, I’m quite sure I’d be fine walking.” Barbie whispered, hiding her face in his neck out of embarrassment.

“Are you joking? I’m not taking that risk. Just relax, I’m taking care of you, and I’m sure you’ll be better in no time.”

Welcome, one and all, to the very probably third or fourth ever betrayal bracket!

What is this bracket for, you ask? Simple! We're collecting all of the top 10 32? 48? 64? anime anything betrayals, and then pitting them against each other! All of your favorites. All of your least favorites. Love that guy? Send them in. Hate their guts? Great! Send them in anyways! However, before we get started, of course, we have to cover:

What counts as a betrayal?

A betrayal is, roughly speaking, any time a character acts against another character they claim to be allied with. A betrayal must be willful and conscious to count- if a character is under effects of mind control, being possessed, etc, they are not betraying anyone they act against. However, characters who have been manipulated into acting against their close ones do, for the sake of this bracket, still count- It is still them acting against their friends.

A character needn't be a villain to betray someone! If a hero or a protagonist infiltrates a villain group, pretends to be one of them, and takes them down from the inside, that is still a betrayal. Heroes can betray villains, villains can betray heroes, villains can betray villains, and heroes can betray heroes. Nothing is off the table here. Except, of course, for things that are off the table.

So what is off the table, then?

Any real people. This means the guy who scammed you on Animal Jam, the guy who said they would trim your armor on Runescape, any and all politicians, so on and so forth.

1a. If they're funny, I might consider it. What's funny? What's not funny? We'll see. As an example, though, I might be inclined to include, say, Brutus, of stabbing Caesar fame.

2. Spamming submissions. Just... don't. If you do, I'll steal your porch, ㅤokay?

3. Please, please, PLEASE when you're submitting someone, explain ㅤhow they have betrayed their allies. I live under a rock, so I most ㅤ ㅤlikely don't know. Yes, even that one. Yes, even the obvious ones. ㅤYes, even ones that are in my header. Thank you!

4. That's it! I might limit submissions from a single source if one ㅤㅤ ㅤsource has too many submissions, but for now I simply want to see ㅤwhat we can get!

How will the matchups be determined?

Great question! Matchups will be seeded by the amount of submissions each character gets. The characters with the most submissions will be pitted against those with the least submissions during round 1. This means that the first few rounds will largely be landslide victories, and not very suspenseful. However, it wouldn't be nearly as fun if Reigen vs Sans had been the first poll of the sexyman bracket, would it? We want the real competitions to come later, that's where all the suspense comes in handy!

Disney Prince x Princess Couples SWAP!!!

FYI: I'm ONLY counting official Princess couples, which ends with Anna being the last one with a canon love interest. So, there's no Merida, Elsa, Moana, or Raya. The goal for this was to have Prince x Princess crossover pairings ONLY.

Snow White x Eugene

Rapunzel is basically Modern-Day Snow White, and they have very similar Pure Hearts, the kind that can break down Eugene's walls. Snow White knows how to be firm when necessary, but her greatest strength is her unfailing kindness. Eugene would definitely reveal his deepest desires after sharing a cup of tea with Snow.

Cinderella x Adam (the Beast)

Picture this: Cinderella chooses to stay at the Beast's castle in exchange for her family (be it her dad, who is alive some versions of the fairytale, or her step-family, because she IS selfless enough to try to help them). She no longer has to work as a slave (though knowing her, she'd still damn well would try to help out), and she would assimilate easily into an Enchanted Castle's environment, and her gentleness and kindness, with juuuuust a bit more of a feisty backbone to confront the Beast's temper, would unravel the Beast's tangled heart.

Aurora x Eric

There are two things Phillip and Eric have in common: they both slayed the villain in an incredibly badass fashion, and they both are smitten with a mysterious voice. Eric is 1000% an homage to Prince Phillip's character, and you cannot tell me that he wouldn't fall head over heels in love with Mary Costa "Briar Rose's" gorgeous voice. (And let's be real, Aurora definitely has a Type lol)

Ariel x John Smith

Ariel wants to see the human world. John Smith wants to explore the "New World." You do the math. Okay, in all honesty, this is lowkey my least favorite pairing 😭 but when you take away the Awkward Historical Stuff, they do still??? kinda fit???? It's one thing for Ariel to go ashore the nearest human kingdom; it's another for her to actually EXPLORE the planet, with an equal adventurer by her side. (Originally, I paired her with Aladdin, but I found an equal, if not better partner for him below ^^")

Belle x Phillip

Here's a "Prince Charming" who takes names and kicks ass and would provide the adventure Belle wants so dearly. Also, I just want good things for Belle, so really, who wouldn't want Prince Slay-a-Dragon-Get-the-Girl Phillip???

Jasmine x Shang

Shang likes a woman who can kick his ass, whether physically or verbally, and Jasmine 1000% fits the bill. Also, she'd whip that Internalized Misogyny out of his system faster than you can say "I'll Make a Man Out of You" lol

Pocahontas x Kristoff

Look, they're both outdoorsy types, definitely prefer animals to people, and totally would take up rock climbing as a couple's activity. They're one of the few couples on this list that I did NOT change my mind on; they just fit, okay????

interesting thoughts about steve re: the triangle and being the boy that helps nancy relax. i agree completely.

for me, as someone who was very much into stoncy and now leans more stancy (they are so cute holy shit), i have always been fascinated with the similarities and differences between steve and jonathan.

it is so clear to me, that jonathan could never truly take care of her in the way she needs, not on his own. not as a husband (in the future). nancy is very much the caretaker in that relationship, and natalia said so herself. i do love jonathan, and he is a strong caretaker for will and joyce obviously, but when it comes to nancy—he is unfortunately a burden to her in a way that steve will never ever be *or* even let himself be. jonathan has so much emotional baggage. its heartbreaking of course but its baggage that he makes no effort to tame or heal (besides smoking i guess), and i would argue he is absolutely selfish for fostering a committed relationship with nancy and expecting her to deal with that on top of her own issues. (i do get though that teenagers are selfish naturally.) but he knows he isn’t ready to support a girlfriend, he knows that. he also has to know how much heartbreak the inevitable end of his relationship will cost her, especially since she began her relationship with him in what was arguably the most depressed point in her life in the second season. jonathan, god bless him, is self-pitying but not proactive (see: following around your girlfriend with your tail between your legs like a wet sad dog wordlessly begging its owner for food) (but hes my wet sad dog). he is her perpetually passive accomplice and while that may be appealing to nancy when she’s in tunnel vision mode, even she is shown to be resentful of his inability to step up for her. he is malewife in the absolute worse way (i promise i love you jonathan).

then let’s think about nancy’s other dumbass malewife. steve is absolutely her caretaker, and let’s be real that is what she needs, whether or not she knows it (she does deep down). i dont mean that in a “nancy can’t take care of herself” way but in a “he wants her to have fun” way! he’s got to have a ton of shit haunting his dreams at night but like ken in barbie (lmao), does not let her see his pain. he is so selfless, always making sure he can be a light presence for her, a calm easy presence. jonathan doesn’t do that. jonathan doesn’t know how to take control of a “nancy wheeler is so deep into this truth journey she might get herself killed” situation—i see the (bad) “feminist” take often that steve holds her back and jonathan supports her but that is such watered down feminism. nancy is a badass but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t put herself into danger (she does.) and jonathan isn’t a feminist hero for supporting her dangerous endeavors (though ofc most of her endeavors save everyone’s ass).

any way: essay complete. i just really am falling deeper and deeper in love with stancy because i realize that nancy, as my favorite character, needs taking care of! like noooo one takes good care of her! let her bejeweled (taylor swift ref lmfao)!

i think what it comes down to for me, is that jonathan’s priority will always be will, and nancy deserves someone who will prioritise her.

jonathan’s gone through a lot of abuse, he’s been majorly parentified. he doesn’t put his own happiness first, and i think as a result, he doesn’t put nancy’s first. he thinks they’ll both be miserable and hate each other and their kids in the future, but he’s still with her. because that’s what you’re “supposed to do”. and i really, really don’t see him working through that anytime soon. especially not if he’s still in a relationship with nancy.

but steve. he makes her laugh! even in terrible times. we see this calming and happy effect that he has on her in s4. he tries. even if it wasn’t enough when nancy was deep in her grief. he was trying.

like you said, nancy deserves to be swept off her feet and romanced. for someone to want to take care of her. for someone to want a future together, instead of resent one.

i think it’s insane to say it’s anti-feminist to ever question a woman lmao. steve wants nancy to be safe, that means he doesn’t always like her plans. her plans often put herself and others in danger because she gets all in her head. i think she needs someone to stand up, and lay out what might be wrong with the plan. to go toe to toe with her.

(and the irony of people criticising steve for not immediately liking nancy’s plan in s4 when that plan did not work lmao. two people died. and neither of them was vecna.)

obviously all three of them are imperfect. they’re teenagers! they’ll fuck up and do harsh things. but what matters is that they care about each other. steve cares about nancy, so he laid out his feelings, and stepped back. jonathan cares about nancy, and he kept secrets, didn’t explain to her what he was feeling, and allowed this… resentment almost, to fester. he’s an avoider! it doesn’t mean he’s a terrible person, but it does mean he shouldn’t be in a relationship.

Got any Carrie Kelly headcanons? She is such an underrated Robin

For those of you who are new here, Carrie Kelley is technically the third Robin after Jason. She's had a couple of cameos across different universes (like as Damian's acting teacher), but the majority of her appearances are confined to Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns where she is a 13-year-old girl who takes up the Robin mantle herself after an aging Bruce returns to the vigilante scene. Her canon sucks, but since I'm out here butchering the batfam anyway, I might as well revamp her characterization.

In regards to her place in the batfam, I think 13-14 is a good age for her because it helps fill in the gap between Tim/Duke and Damian, plus it adds balance because the rest of the girls skew older and it gives her more room for growth. Also 13 is prime Chaotic Weird Girl age and Carrie would absolutely be one

And I know she was briefly Batgirl in canon but can we also revamp that? There's a Batgirl void that she can totally fill but canon is like unseasoned boiled brussels sprouts. In my mind she's Batgirl but with a better costume, different mindset, and keeps her fun and distinct firecracker slingshot

Every time she goes shopping with Alfred, she comes back with another candlestick. She's up to ten now and they're all sitting in her room, fire hazards waiting to happen

She volunteers to help with the kindergarten and she's really good with kids... when she's not acting like one herself. She comes home after the first day with finger paint all over her face

A carjacker tries to break into the Batmobile and she just walks up to them like "Excuse me that's not yours"

She always keeps the dictionary up on her phone in the unlikely event she needs to prove to someone that contranyms are thing

She knows exactly what certain words mean, but pretends she doesn't and uses them wrong in the family groupchat because she knows Bruce will ask, which forces the other batkids to not only explain what a malewife is, but also correct Carrie by demonstrating how to use it correctly

She remembers every Taylor Swift song by heart and she's not ashamed

"Any pool is a public pool if you have the initiative," she says before selling wristbands for Bruce's pool

She gets the pets their own phones so she and Damian can text them throughout the day

She asks Bruce before taking any money, but the way she frames it is weird. For example, she'll ask him for a hundred bucks to buy some video games because that's the market price only to get them for $20 at a garage sale and spend the rest at on a really expensive burger

She's one of the privileged few to come across a person buying 300 watermelons in real life

Her invitations to hang out are like "Wanna come over? We can watch a movie or clean the Batcave, whatever works"

Damian is the "don't eat meat" type of environmentalist, but Carrie is the "I'll spam you with sad turtle pictures so you'll recycle plastic" type of environmentalist

She stocks up on Teen Spirit deodorant so she can say she smells like Teen Spirit

Her makeup skills are... not good. Jason mistook her for a Joker sidekick

She also snuck into Jason's phone and hid one of his Robin pics in his profile

She clips her nails during Bruce's briefings

Carrie and Duke go to the bookstore and see who can find the most Written By A Male Author book

She drinks water with a dash of olive oil

At galas she wears suit tops with skirts and light-up Sketchers

Carrie also doesn't care too much about gender or pronouns. She has a "she/they" pin on her backpack, but that's only 'cause she found it on a bathroom floor and liked the color

Her favorite nap spot is Bruce's favorite chair. It's a huge plush armchair and she's small enough to pass off as a cushion, so Bruce always has to double-check before sitting down

Carrie can read cues in other relationships, but not her own. After Kon offers to refill Tim's drink she's like "ooh he likes you" but when a kid at school gives her flowers on Valentine's day she's like "I think they were just being friendly"

She's the only Robin not to have dentists ask about broken or missing teeth

At a sleepover, she and a few other kids catfished someone on Hinge using a terrible teacher's picture

Her drawing skills are pretty good (not Damian level though) and one time when Dick was sad she drew him as the Dreamworks crescent moon kid

She's friends with the old lady that shops at Trader Joe's the same time she does every week

She puts all her phone calls on speaker. ALL. OF. THEM

She goes to Canada on a short mission and promises to bring back souvenirs. She brings bagged milk
