Our family, the Donquixote Family "used to be" one of the great families of the world. We brothers were raised by kind hearted mother and father.
Vivi: The Donquixote Family! I've heart bits about it from Papa.
Cora: 'Cause Vivi-chan's Nefertari family is also one of those great families!
Usopp: That sounds like a nice family!
Brook: What do you mean by "used to be?"
Cora: A fall from a prestigious family to rock bottom... That's what I mean.
Father, unfamiliar with business, tried his hand at several private charity projects. Unfortunately, every single one ended in huge failure. Our family lost all its possessions, and we lost our social standing.
Those were terrible days, filled with hunger. There were people who's mock and laugh at us for getting the boot, kicked out of the town.
All of it was probably unbearable for my brother. He developed a deep seated hate towards the townsfolk and father.
Then, Doffy disappeared from the sight of me and family. As years passed on...
Cora: I discovered him in the streets as one of the thugs.
Sanji: I guess, he was royally messed up.
Vivi: So he has a past like this behind that perpetual jolly demeanor...
Chopper: Vivi...
Luffy: Corao, I'm bringing leftover food with me.
Cora: Bring with you? You're going somewhere?
Luffy: Why, at Mingo's party!

HALLOWEEN 🎃 👻
How would FRobin celebrate it?

That is such an open question because personally I don't celebrate halloween (I'm from central europe). So I never really thought about those headcanons...
Also I don't think Halloween is a normal tradition in the world of One Piece. I think there are islands that celebrate it. The world is so vast you can use any tradition/celebration you enjoy and let the Strawhats expierence it.
I go wild under the cut so let me put some general points here
Franky and Robin love Halloween and celebrate it whenever it makes sense.
They love to dress up in creepy costumes
They love to provided haunted expierences
They love to give out candy
They love to watch "their own children" go "Trick Or Treat"-ing

Okay, so let's imagine the crew coming to an island that celebrates Halloween.
The crew would dress up so fast!
Brook taking care of the outfits (he is the one with the best taste right after Nami)
Franky would be a Robot & Robin a demon bc I like couple costumes but also those are simple costumes
As soon as the crew learns about trick and treat Usopp/Luffy/Chopper are up to get as many treats as possible. But in the end Usopp stays at the ship and Zoro tags along. Maybe he can get some free booze.
Robin would tag along to keep an eye on them but also to suggest the most weird "tricks" when people are even slightly impolite, especially to Chopper. (Imagine Robin just TP-ing a house by herself but ehen also pouring water over it or something).
Robin would also be very delighted about all the creepy costumes.
Nami wants to earn some money so everyone not "Trick Or Treat"-ing has to help.
Franky is changing Sunny into a Ghost-Ship with the help of everyone who stayed back.
Sanji is preparing snacks and drinks that look creepy after talking with some nice ladies and gentlemen about traditional foods that night.
So, Sunny is now a ghost ship. The aquarium is a creepy under water room and Brook is in the library as the main attraction and there are gimmicks all over the place. At the end visitors can get a photo with Brook or Jinbe (for a little fee) and get snacks and drinks.

Their house would be one of the creepiest in the whole street (side note, they also always have the most impressive christmas decoration)
Some years they make a haunted house too but sometimes Franky and Robin just help out when it's the neighbours turn
They love to give out treats to children.
Robin always dresses up as some mythical monster from different nations - most of the time variations of witches
Franky is mostly a variation of Frankensteins Monster, Rocker/Rockabilly Dude, Robot and of course Gomez if Robin dresses up as Morticia.
Their children (if we want to add in any variation possible) go "Trick Or Treat"-ing and always have the most amazing costume.
Franky and Robin will also volunteer if their children have some event at school. The halloween school parties are legendary. (It also helps that grandpa Brook is a famous rock star and uncle Sanji is the owner of an amazing restaurant).
Anyway Halloween is one of thei favorite holidays. Even if they don't feel like really celebrating, they will still have a nice evening on the couch, watching creepy movies.

One Piece Academy 41 part 1 is up! Aaaaand the title is… Dark Bingo Tournament.
The majority of the chapter focuses on Cora, Law, and Class 1-1 discussing an undercover operation.
Cora tells everyone that he and Law will be infiltrating a formal event that Doffy will be attending this evening. He continues that on the surface it is Bingo Party, though the truth is that people from the criminal underground/Dark World will be meeting there.
Through a short exchange Cora has with Robin, we learn that he set the password for his computer/security system to be his birthday… and that Robin immediately figured it out, amazing hahaha. Poor Cora though.
After discussing plans over a game of Daifugo(similar to Poker,) two investigation teams are formed through everyone playing rock paper scissors.
Law is absolutely determined to be on the same team as Cora, and while he failed to play the right move in rock paper scissors, he ultimately makes Chopper switch teams with him. Law you so silly. It's sweet how much he wants to be on the same team as Corazon.
If I got all the terms down, the final teams and groups within them are:
Nami & Robin
Franky & Brook
Koby, Chopper, Vivi
They are in charge of investigating Onigashima Middle School.
And:
Luffy & Cora
Usopp, Sanji, Law

Who are in charge of investigating Doffy's actions.
Everyone is excited to start the mission, except Law, who is exasperated at their energy, and considers going with just Cora after all.
I love this set up, major Film Gold vibes. Law trying and failing to resist getting pulled into the Straw Hats' rhythm is always fun, Cora being here is great, and investigating the enemy side, specifically Onigashima/the Beast Pirates is exactly what Kiku did while waiting for Kin to return with allies in the main manga. So I'm hoping they group meet her again at the Bingo Party!

not too many bright colors during this era, either,, mainly red, black, purple, white, and occasionally shades of blue were used
her highlights were surprisingly not that bright this era ! she had blonde ones at the start, and we got the return of her purple highlights from the vmas,, her hair also had blue tips at the end of the year, which was cool !
and, yes, it caused another trend sjwijsjs like girl it was ALL over japanese social media,, gyarus were eating it UP
like it started a challenge too ! we love an influencer !
although the styling was darker, there were still a lot of elements present that we saw during the self title era ! rhinestones, fake tattoos, star motifs, body glitter, piercings, dyed eyebrows, rhinestones on her eyebrows, fingerless gloves,,
kaori even got a lip piercing, which caused (another) lil trend !
the piercing was fake though, so 😭
her makeup was very kesha inspired during this era, as well ! lots of glitter and rhinestones on her eyes, as well as sort of “smudged” eyeshadow, huge brightly colored and glittery stars / lightning bolts drawn around her eyes, and dark, smoky, almost messy eyeliner
her nails were so cute, too ! they had rhinestones and animal print and all these metallic elements,, and they were also very sharp swjsiwije
also ! kaori’s style finally got a name ! the media started dubbing it “kao-kei,” and the term eventually made its way to gyaru forums where gals who recreated kaori’s fashion were dubbed “kaogyaru” or “kao-gals !”
and a lot of gyarus LOVED the style bc a. it reminded them of namie, b. it was a lil nostalgic since it resembled ganguro and old school kogyaru, c. it was a combo of a bunch of different styles, and d. it kind of brought back tanning a bit, which was going out of style by the 2010s !
btw, kaori also developed a bit of an obsession with mainframe sunglasses during this era ! like she was wearing them in at least 3 of her mvs MSNKDJ

WIP for an upcoming LuNami Fic
Here’s a snippet from something I’m cooking. This was very therapeutic for me to write. I loved it all so much, i wanted to share. We all need a friendship like this. I hope you all enjoy! 💕💕
When Usopp opened Nami’s front door, he was met with pitch black darkness. He quickly reached to his right; feeling for the switch on the wall and flipping it on.
Nami’s apartment was small. The entrance led immediately into her living room. An open door frame to the left led to the kitchen. A small hallway straight ahead made room for one bedroom at the very end and a bathroom to the left. There wasn’t very much furniture. Just the necessities. The only thing extra really was a small flat screen that was placed on a cheap table she’d found at a garage sale.
Nami didn’t spend frivolously for the most part. Sure, she’d splurge on clothes and bags. Maybe even jewelry. However, her phone was an older model and the laptop she’d use for school was refurbished.
He had come to learn that the façade that Nami showcased in public was starkly different to who she truly was.
She was beautiful and knew it. Egocentric in some ways. But, she was also incredibly shy in weird times. Compliment her looks, and she’d give a curt smile as a thanks. However, tell her that her paintings are incredible, she’d turn into a giggling mess and turn bright red.
Usopp scanned the living room. Her satchel laid on the floor in front of her futon. Her phone was on one of the cushions. So, he made his way down the hall.
Her love for money was something she voiced often. On the weekends, she’d work part time at a cafe in the mornings and a five star restaurant at nights. She saved almost obsessively and hid stacks of cash in odd areas. But despite her money motivated ways, she refused to charge the single moms in her apartment complex when they would ask her to watch their kids so they could work. The ones she did charge, who could afford to pay more, she’d only make pay for lunch or any small necessities. It was almost ironic that the job that could prove to be her most lucrative endeavor would be the one she didn’t charge enough for. Simply because she loved kids and respected their hardworking parents.
Coming up to her bathroom, he noticed the crease had a dim light seeping through.He knocked on the door with one hand and placed the other one on the knob. He called her name after placing an ear on the door.
The biggest misunderstanding was that Nami was cold hearted. Usopp had been a victim of this misconception himself. At the beginning of the year, Nami simply went to class and wrote her notes. She didn’t spare much time conversing with their peers. To those who had approached her; which were usually men looking for a chance at a date or just a night of fun, she’d give them blank stares. Sometimes she wouldn’t even let them finish their sentences before bluntly rejecting their advances. If people tried to continue after such a response, she simply turned her face to the window or to her notes.
But through a project in which they had to work together, Usopp had come to know that cold was the very opposite of what Nami was.
Fiery hair with burning eyes. An attitude that blazed like wildfire and a smile that put the sun to shame… Nami was warm and bright.
In fact, she was so bright all the time that Usopp tended to forget Nami was also more sensitive than anyone could imagine.
Something that he was currently reminded of as he opened the door and found her huddled within herself in the bathtub. She was rocking back and forth, her head tucked between her knees. Her sobs echoed off the tiled walls. She looked up when she heard him enter. Her eyes were swollen; snot and tears mixing as both pooled from their respective places. Her bottom lip trembled violently.
“U-Usopp.” She called to him. Maybe it was question. Maybe it was an observation. But whatever it was didn’t matter.
He quickly walked to her and crouched. His hands cupped her cheeks. He soothed loose hair out of her face while also trying wipe her cheeks with his sleeve.
“It’s okay. You’re okay. I got ya.” He said softly.
She moved forward so that she could hug him tightly. Once she was secured in his arms, she began to sob just as loudly … actually more loudly than before. This time she had someone willing to hear her. Someone who didn’t feel the need shy from.
He was her best friend and she was his. There was no shame to be had

i love that whenever i get really autistic about something now i send those bitches to art school. long post under cut
luffy goes to school with the intent of doing illustration because his dream is to write the greatest comic book of all time. however he realizes he doesnt want to do an illustration program and switches to an interrelated media program and continues working on comics.
koby is luffys freshman year roommate. hes originally in art ed but luffy convinces him to switch to animation cuz thats what he actually wants to do. helmeppo is also in animation.
zoros in sculpture. he went to this specific school because mihawk whos a well known successful sculpter is teaching there. peronas an illustration major with a sculpture minor.
tashigis in art ed with a sculpture focus. they knew each other before college. tashigis also friends with smoker seperately.
nami is in illustration with a jewelry minor. shes also an ra who sometimes abuses her power over others (mostly her friends) but is still pretty solid. she works at a seafood restaurant on the weekends freshman year.
usopp starts as a film and painting double with a creative writing minor and throughout his college education progressively drops stuff until hes just doing film. hes also an ra and is surprisingly good at it. kaya and usopp are highschool sweethearts that break up sophomore year but try to keep being friends. kaya also goes to the med school.
sanji starts in painting and switches to interrelated media and makes edible artwork. he has a whole complex about painting and realizing he actually hates painting and wants to do more 3D stuff. he works at zeffs restaurant also.
zoro and sanji are freshman year roommates, and they absolutely do not get along at the start. they seperately meet luffy and befriend him. they complain about their shitty roommates. and then zoro invites luffy over cuz sanjis in class and theyre still hanging out when sanji gets back. this kicks off zoro and sanji eventually reconciling and becoming good friends. zoro and luffy live together second year.
chopper starts in art education and after first year switches to the med school down the street. he lives with pedro (sculpture) carrot (ceramics) and bepo (illustration) because theyre all friends from highschool.
robins in ceramics with a history of art double. she works in museum curation part time.
frankys a metals and architecture double. he and robin are both older and live together off campus. franky works as a mechanic part time.
brooks a professor in interrelated media. hes also still a rock star. ivankov is also an interrelated media professor and drag queen. inazuma teaches queer studies.
jinbes an illustration professor (who convinces luffy to switch his major)
law goes to the med school that shares a dormatory with the art school. hes also rooming with monet so freshman year hes like always sulking in common spaces cuz his roommate sucks. hes cross registered in sound art and music classes. the rest of the heart pirates also go to the med school.
kid goes to the tech school and is technically in the robotics major, but hes in the minimal amount of classes and gets other people to do his work for him and uses the facilities to do his own projects.
vivis a history of art and art ed double. shirohoshis in photo. rebeccas in art education. them+nami are freshman year roommates.
ace is in glass with yamato. ace is also an ra who kinda sucks at his job but hes dearly beloved. most people on his floor have something that could get him fired but everyone likes him too much to do that to him. ace has a part time job on campus in admissions as well where he works with some of the whitebeard pirates. whitebeard himself is head of admissions as well as aces mentor.
kaido teaches glass.
crocodiles a proffessor in glass.
gecko moria is also in illustration. hes the kinda professor whos absolutely rancid to be around but gives not a lot of work so people keep taking classes with him. peronas his favorite student and hes her favorite professor.
kumas in ceramics.
hancock teaches in fibers. she used to do fashion but quit. luffy ends up in one of her classes because everything he was interested in filled up before he could register.
doflamingos in fashion. coras an alum who did interrelated media (mainly sound stuff)
sabos over studying law with the revolutionaries.
big moms in charge of the dining hall that kinda sucks.
buggys the rd that never does his job, but he accidentally does it in the way that makes everyone like him. alvida rds for a different building and gets fired. smokers the rd of the third building who takes his job incredibly seriously.
garp really wanted luffy to go serve in the army first, partially to get free education which luffy didnt do and dadan backed him up on. i also think garp still gave ace and luffy over to dadan. sabo has amnesia of the first nine years of his life, and basically wandered to dadans house and she wasnt able to find who his actual parents were so he ended up just hanging around and luffy and ace got attached to him so dadan adopted him.
the going merry is usopps old van that ends up breaking down during freshman year. thousand sunny is frankys van hes tinkered and fucked with.
gol d roger wrote a very good comic series before dying. shanks also works in comics and is luffys main inspiration for wanting to make comics in the first place. shanks tells luffy that if he goes to school and works on comics he'll help him kick off getting his comic published. or something like that. shanks was also luffys art teacher for a year when he was pretty young.

What kind of music do the Straw Hats like?
Luffy:
I feel like Luffy is one of those people who can listen to anything as long as it has a good beat.
The genre that you most likely will find him listening to is pop or rock. He specifically likes songs that he can sing along to, or songs that he can force his crew mates to sing with him.
He doesn’t really like anything slow paced, so I find him less inclined to like classical (even though some of it can be fast) and country.
Generally one of the most agreeable in terms of music.
Zoro
Zoro likes almost anything heavy. It goes with his persona, and it often pumps him up while lifting and doing other exercises.
Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, maybe even some rap. It has to do something for him, like the aforementioned pump up music. Despises Yacht rock and album oriented rock.
However, Zoro has a guilty pleasure in a lot of pop music. He doesn’t know the words, or even the names of some of the songs, but you can hear him humming along to the beat. He doesn’t want anyone to know because he thinks it will make him look weak.
Generally not very agreeable when it comes to music.
Nami
Nami’s music choice is not something you would expect. Besides pop, Nami really enjoys Jazz and Blues. It helps her relax after a stressful thieving session.
Nami doesn’t like anything too heavy, as she doesn’t want to be reminded of the hardships that she’s faced. It also can get grating on her ears really quickly so she’d rather not listen to it.
When Nami is feeling particularly angry, she’ll even listen to grunge. It’s perfect for helping her get her anger out without taking it out on others. (Aka smacking them)
Nami has her preferences but is moderately agreeable when it comes to music.
Usopp
For some reason, Usopp strikes me as the type of person who would like Ska and pop punk. He enjoys the upbeat melodies while also liking that the music often has stories underneath them.
While working, Usopp usually has some old school hip hop and rap going, and even may have a little bit of reggae playing. It’s mellow and helps keep his mind focused.
Like Nami, he doesn’t like anything too heavy. Not for the same reason, however. He’s a normally anxious and worrisome person, so he doesn’t want his positive and calm vibes ruined.
Will vibe to almost anything.
Sanji
Sanji loves girl bands, particularly k-pop and j-pop bands. He loves all the choreographed moves that the women have, and finds all the women so talented!
He secretly likes disco music, and if you’re lucky you can see him in the kitchen grooving to it. It’s got a good beat, and most of it is about love so he can dig it.
He doesn’t like any music that degrades women, so hair metal and rap really turn him off. He doesn’t like that women in those genres are usually treated like objects so he objects.
He’s in the middle with music agreeability
Chopper
Chopper enjoys classical music. It helps him focus and keeps him calm when it comes to helping patients and other comrades.
However, on the flipside, he does not like pop music while he’s trying to work. It makes him want to sing and dance. Normally it’s all well and good but when he’s saving lives, it’s a no-no.
Will sometimes go over to his other crewmates to see what they’re listening to, and learn more about the music.
Another one of the most agreeable in terms of music. Only disagreeable while working.
Robin
Robin likes a wide variety of genres, from Heavy Metal, to Opera to Gregorian chants. Nothing really bothers her.
With all the years she’s been on the run and spent time with the Strawhats, she’s very tolerant and accepting of other styles of music.
She doesn’t like anything that is just mindless or noisy, it has to have a bit of meaning behind the music. She isn’t a big fan of rap music for that reason.
The most agreeable person when it comes to music.
Franky
Franky adores two genres in particular, electronic and classic rock. For that reason alone, he adores the music of the 80s.
However, that does not stop him from liking more guitar oriented bands, or new music that is primarily made from a computer.
Is curious about the other members of the crew’s musical interests, and tries to get sophisticated answers. With most of the crew he gets simple ones.
Somewhat agreeable.
Brook
Brook absolutely loves both rock and classical music. He also likes music that combines the two, specifically neoclassical.
However, after being away from living people for so long, he is intrigued on what kind of instruments are used to make music, and what different genres were created.
Because of this, Brook is open to almost anything! He doesn’t like any bands that are labeled as noise bands, as they confuse his ears. (Or they would, if he had any ears!)
Second most agreeable.
Jinbe
Jinbei is also very new to music, as the genres at Fishman island were very different from the ones above the surface.
Jinbei does like a good sea shanty, and can be heard singing one from the helm at times of danger. He feels that it can bring morale to the crew and keep them from panicking.
Jinbei doesn’t like anything that is particularly high or low. He isn’t used to it, and it hurts his sensitive hearing.
Jinbei is undecided.

Bruh a Miss Kaya update? Sweet! As we've said with Academy, this blog fully stans certified good girl Miss Kaya. I love her outfit here, she was really one of this series's first more classy, modest girlies and say what you will about how Oda draws women but I'm noticing she's not one of the ones who got a Timeskip breast augmentation. Usopp's former crew look like they're growing up fast too. This is a good group, still hope we get more Kaya in Academy because I really like her as the sickly girl who doesn't make it to school all the time. Clever use of a character on Sohei Koji's part.
We can talk about Academy over Golden Week though, because Vegapunk's message is going live! Which means sadly we're done with the fun of dicking around for ten minutes. The Vega Coffee bit was so, so good though. We'll get to the ramifications as we go but first there is a reason for Miss Kaya. Take note of all these people we see, how places like Torino highlight that darker side. VP will even own up to some of his own "sins" in his message. It's a very diffuse reaction to the man. Someone who inspires a lot of different reactions. It's important to pay attention when a story does that, but let's move on:
Hahaha lol eat a dick Mars. Classic decoy maneuver. We did get the brain in a jar! In a chapter where Vegapunk "confirms" his own death and an arc where we've played this game with Kuma. Remember Mars doesn't actually know the deal, he himself is pondering a little over what counts as the real Vegapunk. So I'm inclined to ponder if it is just what we see; part of his brain serving as more or less a hard drive. As much the real him as that paw bubble of memories was the real Kuma. Shout-out to Bonney and her Giant-ish future by the way. It was cool, but pretty much reinforces the same themes. You're acting like Luffy and the crew has fully shifted to treating you (appropriately) as a little kid to watch out for.
The decoy snail though...I like it. Could it have been a long game by Vegapunk? Of course, and keeping York out of the loop is believable. But being on the floor randomly is still weird and putting it right in front of the big brain tank seems rather risky for Vegapunk. Why would he want to nudge at that connection. Get what I'm saying? This is a weirder beat than it seems, but it would make perfect sense through the lens of someone else reacting. Great way to cover one's tracks by just letting the natural assumption take course. There's one part of Vegapunk's speech that bolsters this to me:
Please do not assume that the ones who strike me down are evil. That plus what he says here? Do...not track with thinking the Gorosei would be the ones who came after him. Sounds a little more like he expected Luffy, Bonney, someone like that to take him out. Or even Lucci. It's subtle, but actually a great remind that this all has nothing to do with the Straw Hats. Remember that old theme? The extra effort from the World Government is because of an emperor drifting into the situation. You can't act so casually when the world rocks in your wake. That still seems to be the core lesson for Luffy.
Speaking of, we get another nudge at one of last night's big mysteries. How did Robin get in such rough shape? The scenes before we skip the night set it up okay, she was headed right into a confrontation with York. But it's still a lingering question. And speaking of "lingering," you have the Gorosei hammering that Bakura Town/Ryokugyu theme hard. Reminds me of someone who knows no one called Vermin. The message though, it's what we're all here for. Well, I'm here for Nami Protect Mode.
I have some thoughts about this. Not the reveal itself. Sorta what we saw with Lulusia at the start, the fallout I mean. Excellent through line with Wano and it's own history. Makes Iceberg look so cool in hindsight because he at least was a good enough leader to see it happening locally. Type of thing a shipwright-turned-politician would notice your typical noble wouldn't. Very classic looming threat, makes me think of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou which was our world after massive sea level rise.
Let me just say one thing. This is fucking hilarious from a certain perspective. Imagine you're chilling. Doing your thing. Every PC and Windows product in the world fires up. Bill Gates is streaming live. He takes ten minutes to dick around with coffee then promptly announces his death before telling everyone their own death is imminent because [government conspiracy]. The reaction is going to be wild. Makes me think of David Bowie's "Five Years." If you're a fan, see if you can find the live version from the Dinah Shore show. You won't regret it. That Man Who Fell to Earth look was iconic and you gotta love managing a 4th wall break in a rock opera.
We've talked about this with Robonosuke, who's hanging around in the background still. This is an even better detail someone who learned a lot from Toki would know. Even if it's indirect relevance, it's the exact type of knowledge a modern scholar would find as a big surprise but a friend of the lady from the Void Century could just casually know. Maybe not a fancy sea chart, but say to the degree of a rough map?
Just saying, type of thing there's scenes to support it. The map is right there with some of the first ones that really show Kiku acting like a nanny with Momonosuke. The Act plot with Olin had a lot of subtle bait the girl's a little distinct from the group we'd build on in Act 3. Aside from all that though, just this basic setup of the chapter? We start on a few vignettes around the world showing different reactions to Vegapunk. Then we set up everyone in dire straits as Luffy's run out of gas. Injected a little new mystery through Stussy/York. Now we end on a big reveal that doesn't affect the matter at hand as we pull away from the island?
It's easy to say at a lot of points but if there's a third cutaway...we may be going into it after Golden Week.
