so Lyctohood, in theory,
is basically just a Necromancer feeding off both their Cavalier's life (as a source of thalergy) and their death (as a source of thanergy) indefinitely. And they absorb their cavaliers (their flesh and soul), to always have a source of power to draw from.

the thing is (and i take back everything i said about Gideon being something like a himbo) that gideon is so excellently eloquent. her entire narrative voice in book 1 is littered with Words I Do Not Recognize. Those Are Big Words. and she does get necromantic theory. she can follow along harrow's ramblings. she's very good at mapping out the political vibes in the room and fully grasp a situation. like. she just thinks shes funny. that's my only thing. she also memorizes bone anatomy. and idk maybe it's just very socialscience student of me but that is very impressive.

The sweet old yew asks
“Are you prepared for the quest to be painful?”
When the youth has been training under their bough all this time. Have you not seen the light? And the shadow?
No tears will last, and they can water the other trees the learning needs to see. He knowns the sweet trees to well, and bitter pine is needed now. Perhaps not to drink, but certainly to see. At worst, it’s not like the sweet tree will leave me?
And if there are no trees to see, only then will there be trouble

Sweet little harrow, merely 18/15/12/9/3 years of age, has to witness people engaging with God carnally. I don't think she will ever recover from that
