My Half-Blood OC: Rey Zhao
Her mother, Jiayi Zhao was a chinese woman who moved to America for a better life at the end of the 80s. She started her own business, a tiny chinese food restaurant. That's where she met Rey's father, Hephaestus. The god of fire, technology and blacksmiths visited New York in disguise as a chinese man. The two of them fell in love in a blink of an eye and Jiayi got pregnant with their baby, Rey. Just like any of the gods, Hephaestus also couldn't stay with the woman and had to leave the family. Before leaving, he revealed his identity so Jiayi would know what to expect of their daughter in the future. The woman raised Rey on her own in Brooklyn, keeping the truth away from her. When Rey was ten years old, a weird man grabbed her arm on the subway. Luckily she shoved him away and managed to get off the metro in time to run away. After that incident, she found out who she really is and how monsters are after her kind. Rey was 11 years old when she first stayed at Camp Half-Blood. She lived in Cabin Nine, along with her half-siblings. The girl visited the Camp every summer and trained to be a better demigod. Rey was an excellent archer and she had outstanding mechanical abilities. She couldn't just simply build powerful machines but due to the ability of her Technokinesis, she also could control them. She trained extra hard, as she wanted to be strong and a dependable person to her friends at the Camp. One day during her training, she unexpectedly lost her temper and they discovered that she also can do Pyrokinesis. Rey struggled for the longest time to learn how to control fire. Percy Jackson joined Camp Half-Blood when Rey was already 14 years old. The boy was younger than her by 2 years. She didn't think too much of him at first, but she eventually befriended him. They didn't hang out too much, though, as Rey went on different quests and was part of a different group of friends. Years later, during the Battle of Manhattan Rey lost her right hand when a prototype of her machines blew up. She started wearing a mechanical hand made by herself and her siblings. Sadly, it was her dominant hand so she had to re-learn how to write, hold things, and so on. Building machines and controlling fire became even harder for her. However, what made her the most regretful is how she could not paint the way she used to anymore…

how would one go about getting into d&d? it seems fun, except for the tragedy and loss
((ooc: JOIN US, FRIEND. JOIN US AND CRY OVER IMAGINARY CHARACTERS YOU WILL BECOME IRREVOCABLY ATTACHED TO.
personally, the way I fell into it was a mixture of luck and wanting to play for years but having idea who to ask/where to start. I didn’t know anyone else who was interested until the beginning of this term when my friend said he wanted to DM a game and it turned out there were four of us who were super up for it! our DM has 11 years of DnD experience but the party itself were all newbies back in september so we had a tonne to learn but it was great fun!
put some feelers out at school/uni/work and see if any of your friends would like to join a campaign (you can do it with people you don’t know as well, but I just think DnDing with friends is a bit more fun because you’re not so self conscious about rp’ing and you can have more of a laugh!). then, if you can, find someone with a bit of DM’ing experience to run the campaign. if you can’t but you have someone who is willing to learn, great! but it’s definitely a bit harder that way.
good luck my dear, I hope you get a party together and begin that magic fantasy funtime soon!))
