idk how to describe my particular taste in indie pop besides its a web that builds out. i started being really into both twee pop and power pop and bridged that gap through getting into elephant six and then i started getting into general cute sounds as well as nostaglia based pop and its kind of a mess at this point

Confessions of a Recovering Genrephobic 3/30/2024
Hey Whores, Work continues to suck so I only listened to one album. Mostly because I wanted to get one more in before this month was over. We're going to go hard in the coming months. I am so ready to be done with the 100 albums. I think were about 40% of the way through so we going to see girl. We going to see.

÷ (Divide) (2017) - Ed Sheeran
Genre: Pop Length: 59:27 (16 Tracks)
I'm under the impression that people really don't like Ed Sheeran and his music and firmly believe it is at least in part because of how much Shape of You got airplay.
Divide is one a incredible odd name for this album. It has a level of nostaglia to it but If there is a feeling of loss or division within it I don't sense it. Honestly the entire vibe while eclectic is rather low-stakes.
I don't dislike this album but It doesn't particular speak to me. If anything it just showed me what a middle of the road 5/10 album sounds like. My music rating system sucks.

Lone Aires - Out of my head, Out of my league
Tumblr media
© Artwork: CTTO / Lone Aires
Indie Rock
I don't want to compare bands with each other, but this beautiful indie rock / dream pop tune gives me special Far Caspian vibes with a strong feeling of nostaglia. Well, there's probably nothing better than when washed-out vocals and jangly guitars come together. 'Out of my head, Out of my league' by Lone Aires was already released back in October, but it's a great song that shouldn't be overlooked. Check it out below! - Original Song - 🎹 Genre: Dream Pop, Bedroom Pop| 📌 Official release date: 07/10/2022 | 🌍 Location: Germany / Portugal| ✔️ #NowPlaying - Playlist - Links - Stream 'Out of my head, Out of my league' via Spotify Follow Lone Aires on Instagram

Age Old Question
First I must mention that I do not think 27 is an old age. This is the first year that I felt that my youth is thinning. I can not shake this feeling that I am losing time. I remember family or family friends making comments such as "wait until it's your turrn" or " you kids just don't get it" or that soon enough things will start to shift. I have always considered myself to be a millennial but really I am considered a cusper. I was born in 1994 and I can be considered to be both millennial and a gen z. I have always felt more of a millennial becasue I relate more to that generation than gen z. I can remember vividly time before social media and modern technology. I had a Xenga when I was in elementary school, Myspace in middle school going into high school. Remember making the statement that I was not going to switch to Facebook at the end of my freshmen year in high school. Obviously that did not last long! During my four years in high school, Instgram, Snapchat, and Vine became popular and it shifted our modern world. I am getting sidetracked from the point I was trying to make. I can feel a divide between my age and younger people. Being the younger generation you mold society by fashion, music aimed for you, movies aimed for you, and general pop culture. I now feel that I am outside looking in, almost another sense of not fitting in. I spent so much time waiting for this point in my life that I did not think about what is next. Not sure if it's becasue I did not want to know what is next or that I did not picture myself making it this far. What my fears are, is that when I look back at my youth, I will have nothing to look back on. I hear old songs and I get the nostaglia of it all but I get an overwhelming depressing feeling. With each song, I go back in time and picture myself back then and so desperately want to go back. It still feels like yesterday but knowing that yesterday was so long ago. I look around and see how much everything has changed. Maturity wise, I know that I have completely changed. That is the main characteristic I know for a fact that has changed. It is one that I feel to the core, which shocks me. Not that I was ever immature before but it is something that I have felt change over night, almsot like a light switch. Since I was a child, I have always been told that I am more mature than others my age or that I have an old soul. For the past year, I have been overwhelmed by this feeling and slowly feeling it take over me. Mainly wish I could lose the feeling of losing time, I know that soon the best is yet to come. Almost everyone that has been in their 30's have said that your 30's are your best years. In Hollywood, they always say the best part of someone's life is their 20's. Which brings all the confusion becuase really it's all perspective. Fear of not knowing what years will be better, was it my 20's or will it really be my 30's and I just don't know it yet. When I look back, I am not certain that I spent it well or did the things that I wanted to do. For awhile, I have only wanted to watch movies from years ago. Hoping to get a dose of serotonin to bring me back to reality. Movies I grew up watching, now look old and outdated which really throws me off. I am spending more time thinking of the past than I am of my future. I miss a lot of things but also feel like I missed out on so much. Knowing that it is too late, scares the hell out of me. I can't turn back time and I can't change any of the things that I did or didn't do. One day I will look into the mirror and no longer see this youthful face. It will be covered by wear and tear, wisdom, heartbreak, joy, and life. I fear that I will not like what I see in the mirror in a vanity sense or who I became. Right now, with 27 years under my belt and 28 just a few short months ahead, what have I really accomplished? What type of impact have I left behind? Will I have left more positivity or negativity in this world? I guess the fear of the unknown, a new fear I never had before. An ongoing internal monologue. To be continued...

After Ruth died and the railroad stopped runnin', the café shut down and everybody just scattered to the winds. It was never more'n just a little knockabout place, but now that I look back on it, when that café closed, the heart of the town just stopped beatin'. It's funny how a little place like this brought so many people together.

every time a new piece of media joins in on the 80s nostalgia trend thats happening right now stranger things ends up getting dragged through the mud and i dont like that!! first of all i acknowledge that these movies are obviously banking on the success of stranger things. it 2017 takes place in the 80s rather than the book's setting of the 50s and it features finn wolfhard. fear street takes place in the late 70s/early 90s and features several stranger things actors, similar locations, and an overall very similar look. ready player one crammed so many 80s references in it inspired demi adejuyigbe's song that i think about literally all the time. and inevitably when people dislike these movies they tend to criticize the reliance on nostalgia and it alwayssss gets traced back to stranger things, which is then blamed for "banking on the nostalgia for the 80s" and implied to be nothing more than its references to the time. BUT
here's the thing. stranger things has to take place in the 80s. a story about the government doing illict mk-ultra experiments to spy on the russians is inseparable from the politics of the 80s. a story about a young boy going missing and his friends riding around on bikes investigating depends on the lack of instant communication & constant monitoring of children that still existed in the 80s. if the story didn't depend on those elements and still took place in the 80s, sure, you could say it uses the time period for nothing more than marketing and nostalgia but that's not the case! and i see a lot of people bemoan what they consider to be references that are "too obvious" like the ghostbusters halloween costumes, the soundtrack in general, barb's whole look, etc. but...they're accurate to the time period! how could you have a show that takes place in the 80s and not feature accurate fashion from that time? music?? media??? obviously as more and more movies/shows jump onto the success of st, these references become less and less interesting and ultimately end up feeling stale, but how could you not have them? not to mention my mom was really excited to see barb carrying a trapper keeper <3
stranger things also challenges aspects of 80's pop culture with subverted expectations. the best example of this imo is obviously steve's entire character. typical jock all american boy bully that was wildly popular in 80s teen media, but within the first episode it's already made clear that steve is an actual person who exists beyond his archetype. he stumbles sneaking into nancy's window and points out the judgements she has against other girls she considers to be slutty and backs off on his advances and above all genuinely likes her rather than just using her for sex. he evolves a million other times as the show progresses because the show values its characters and the way they're written, which wouldn't be the case if they were just using the bare bones of 80s media tropes and calling it a day.
not to mention how stranger things' most iconic images are things entirely original to the show. the letter wall was everywhere and recreated a million times, el's pink dress + eggo box look was a million halloween costumes, the nail bat was so popular it made a whole reappearance in the season two trailer, i could go on. somehow the show managed to create these very iconic images that feel like they're from a classic 80s movie despite being made in 2016. it would be insanely easy for the show to just not even bother with coming up with their own visuals and instead go the ready player one route where the supposedly impressive scenes literally just feature a popular 80s character
not everyone is gonna agree obviously but i think stranger things is genuinely a well made show in season one, when the 80s trend kicked off after its enormous success. and im not gonna act like it never uses nostalgia as a draw-in because it definitely mentions star wars more than necessary and season three was clearly written around the concept of an 80s mall, but it's obvious that everyone involved with making the show cared about its quality rather than just slapping together some references because they knew it'd do well. it has a compelling story with a large cast of mostly well written characters and great actors and unique dynamics etc etc etc. you can tell when something is made entirely to bank off a specific aesthetic because it generally doesn't end up drawing people in and keeping them dedicated to the story. and stranger things did kickstart a long trend of nostaglia based media, much of which is unoriginal and mediocre, but it shouldn't be dragged down along with them

Alright, what Ninjago scene has stuck with you since you watched it? Sad, funny, scary, wholesome, I just wanna know.
Mine is the scene where The Overlord possesses Garnadon, that shit scared me as a 10 year old and 9 years later, it still is vivid in my head

Interview with a fanfic author tag!
I came up with this idea in the shower so if I'm taking someone else's idea, all credit goes to them.
This is just a way to get to know an author better that I thought would be fun!
Your favorite fic that you've written (or just one you want to give a shout out to)
Definitely my favorite fic I've written (as of now) is sheltering the boy I knew (from all the hell I've put him through). It was a collaboration I did with @angels-creative where Peter was involved in WandaVision.
2. Your favorite fic title that you've come up with
Probably they see right through me (can you see right through me?). it's a Taylor Swift lyric from her song The Archer, but it really fits the context of the story because Lloyd is both struggling to get back to normal after he was possessed, but also trying to hide the fact that he's sick.
3. How do you get inspiration to write?
I listen to a lot of music, but I also go back and watch the source material. Reading (fanfic or otherwise) is also really helpful.
4. Your favorite genre/subgenre of fic to write.
Angst is so fun because you get to dive into the character (or characters) mind and trauma, but any time I can make humor work, it's just so fun and is definitely a favorite, although rare.
5. Do you have other hobbies?
I really love coloring and reading, but also make-up is a huge passion of mine.
6. A fun fact about you that a lot of people may not know.
I'm really good at cooking and I think it's from my dad.
7. Pick one character to self project onto, go!
Stiles Stilinski, my man, I am so sorry for how I treat you. I just relate to you a little too much.
8. Favorite genre of music.
Pop. Cause it really can encompass anything. But if I actually have to pick something, I love rock music.
9. Your favorite singer/band
At the moment, it's Taylor Swift, but I'm really obsessed with Tyler Posey too.
10. And finally, how has your experience in fandom been?
I've been involved in fandom culture since December 2015, and there have been ups and downs for sure, but I've really found my people now, and I'm in a really good place with fandom.
Tagging: @angels-creative @marvelous-writer @hailing-stars @rosiehunterwolf @blondsak @doctornineandthreequarters @endless-whump @forasecondtherewedwon @justme--emily @ninja-go-to-therapy and anyone else who wants to do the tag!

Confessions of a Recovering Genrephobic 2/17/2024
Hey Whores,
Don't really have a lot to say about this week. Been getting some stuff done. Namely Taxes. Been spending some money investing in myself. And realizing that I really need to kick my ass in high gear and start applying for new jobs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Carnival of Clockwork (2015) - The Cog is Dead
Genre: Various, Steampunk Length: 47:14 (14 tracks)
I don't have a lot to say about this album. Mostly because i am a silly billy tired boy. Look do you like steampunk stuff with the storys and the cogs and the aestetics. Your'll like this.
I wasn't expecting the album to have such an eclectic sound to it but overall it has been a really nice time.
4/5
Tumblr media
Sorry For Party Rocking (2011) - LMFAO
Genre: Pop Rap, Electro Length: 37:15 (10 Tracks)
So we have all heard LMFAO right? Sorry for Party Rocking, Shots, Everyday I'm Shuffling. Right?
Tumblr media
(God I love Francine. This isn't even the specific scene I was trying to reference)
LMFAO is like the ultimate 2000s party music. It has a dub-step adjacent sound, the lyrics are fun and stupid. And its just hot and stupid and fun. Its like if Marshmellow and Lil John had like Gay sex while piss drunk on Johhny Walker and Lemon Drops and then had a child that somehow was the epitome of straight party bros but like in a nice wholesome way.
There is a surprisingly amount of variety in this album. Besides the more remembered singles there are tracks on here which are just explicetly EDM with sparse vocals and we love that for them.
5/5 (partialy for the nostaglia)
Tumblr media
Pink Friday 2 (2023) - Nikki Minaj
Genre: Hip Hop Length: 70:14 (22 Tracks)
OOOH GURL. We don't stan.
So first of off the real critics criticize this album for being overally long and yeah bitch this is 22 FUCKING SONGS. GIRL WHY DO I NEED TO HERE 22 SONGS IN A GODDaMN ROW> WHO IS SHE WHO SI THIS PERSON THAT SO MUCH OF A BARB THAT WE WANT TO HEAR 22 SONGS IN A ROW>
She ain't here girl all I'm saying. Not to belabor the point but I literally thought the album had ending and that I was listening to autoplay for the last 20 minutes.
There songs are fine? Its a lot of samples and vagualy etheral sounding production. It sounds like I'm listening to someone sample a "Now this what I call Music '83" while I'm Stuck in the bottom of a well. Nikki be spitting verse but I can't say that it has much of the same stopping power as like any of her other music.
This just wasn't for me and the length makes it harder for me to appreciate the individual tracks.
2/5
Tumblr media
Prelude to Ecstasy (2024) - The Last Dinner Party
Genre: Rock, Baroque Pop Length: 41:16 (12 Tracks)
ok this was just a lovely fucking time for a rainy day. Imagine a kinda 80s pop ballad band, mix it with light rock, and a florence-adjacent voculist and you got The Last Dinner Party. I'm gonna play one song for you and if this doesn't do anything for you then I'm sorry baby.
There non-singles are a lot more esoteric in the sound. They trade the catchy pop rock structure for something quite a bit more layered, baroque, and theatrical? orchestral? surreal? Baby girl, baby boy, baby zem you know I'm not good at discribing music.
Its like the perfect album for a rainy day. Meloncholic, evocative, and just almost purient in feeling. Its like wet chiffon against the skin in a summer rain.

It's nice to see an active Iris again. i feel like she doesn't get enough love in the fandom. dunno why she's hated opposed to misty as they have some similar personalities if not more savage.
Dunno how anyone couldn't love her. I mean LOOKIT HER.
Tumblr media
Not to mention she makes the most hilarious 'im so done with everyone' expression' throughout the series.
I assume most are like that due to 'nostaglia', but I don't think any of Ash's female companions get even the same amount of flak that she does. Plus I also feel like it also comes down to her skin color as well since no one can ever seem to give me why her and misty are so different. I stand by this. I love the game version of Iris along with the anime version as well.
Watched some older seasons of pokemon not too long ago and Ash and Misty bickered WAY more than him and Iris. Has called him immature and childish or just points out his stupidity whenever the chance pop's up (literally roasts him so bad and he does the same pfft), yet my girl gets condemned.
W H Y?
All of his companions always have some sort of goal they're working towards and I always felt like Iris was the most rounded out of all of them. Especially with her background. Having no direct blood related family and practically raised in the wild around pokemon with being abandoned, had trouble making friends in school making her feel like she didn't 'fit in' and had trouble with academics as it wasn't anything she was taught at a young age. Why it's so easy for her to relate and be around pokemon, since that's what she's use to. Traveling with Ash and Cilan really made her feel more comfortable in gaining more human companions.
She's selfless, will help others that she doesn't even know, quick to defend her friends, and throw herself in danger for them along with her pokemon. (Like someone else we know coughcoughashcough). And always pushing others to do better. You see her grow, learn and adapt.
TLDR;
My child is precious and no one thinks so git outta my swamp.
