Olderbf!/kinda Sugardaddy!Price brainrot
Thinking about olderbf!/kinda sugardaddy!Price who buys you anything you could ever want. You grew up in a pretty money-tight household, feeling guilty when anyone spent money on you because you were so aware of how much things cost at such a young age.
Tumblr media
But if you look at those shoes on sale you thought were cute for a little too long? It's wrapped up all nice for you by your door the next day when you get home from work with a cute lil note on the box.
"Saw you looking at these <3"
You mention craving your favorite food? He's taking you out immediately.
"Ugh __ sounds really good right now." You say as you walk into the kitchen to try and find food already in your fridge.
"Take out or dine in?" Price asks.
"What?"
"Do you want me to order it as takeout or do you want to eat there?"
You pause and look at him hand still on the open fridge door, taken a bit off guard. "I-"
He's already picking up his phone and wallet waiting for your answer. And when you don't answer, he does for you.
"Put some shoes on, let's go out hm?"
You try to hide your smile and blush as you make your way to the door where your shoes are, and where your boyfriend stands too, helping you put your jacket on.
Or when you two go shopping together and you get distracted by a section with CDs and vinyls as you see a deluxe vinyl of an album you've been wanting to get for your record player.
"Oh John look! Wow I didn't think they'd have this here! I've been meaning to try and get around to buying this!"
You pick up the deluxe album and turn it over to check the price, and your giddy smile fades a bit seeing it. You put it back, visibly a little upset as you furrow your brows a little and go for the regular album that's a little bit cheaper, which you note as you turn that one over and see the price.
"Hm. This one's a little cheaper." You say to yourself quietly, not thinking Price can hear as you go to put it into the cart, but he stops you.
"No." He grabs the album from your hands before you can place it in and you look up at him wide eyed. He doesn't make eye contact with you as he swaps the regular album for the deluxe one you wanted and replaces the empty spot in your hands with it.
He looks down at you and sees you cutely staring at him with wide curious eyes.
"I'm getting you the one you want bunny." He says with a smile. "Plus the deluxe version has more songs that I can watch you dance to in the kitchen so it's a win win." He says with a wink and your wide eyes fail to conceal the love for your boyfriend in that moment as it lights them ablaze.
Or on one particular bad day when you come home and do some online window shopping on your couch in your cart on Etsy to make yourself feel better. Your cart is filled with cute stickers, jewelry, fanmade merch for your interests, and cute trinkets to decorate your house with that you look at hoping one day you'll be able to afford to get them all. You definitely had money, but it was just enough to get you by with little left over. As you log into your account, you realize that your whole cart is empty.
"What?" You try and refresh the page, panicking a bit as you had so many things in your cart that you don't really want to go searching for again. It took a while for you to find them after all.
ding!
your laptop makes a noise as an email notification comes up
"Thanks for your order!"
You panic, thinking maybe you bought everything by accident, which you can't exactly afford right now, until Price comes up from behind you, leaning over the couch to nuzzle his face into your neck.
"Surprise bunny." he whispers into your neck smiling.
"John, what? what did you do?"
"You're always on that website looking at those things. Got tired of seeing you not have them. Plus, I'm always looking for a way to spoil my little bunny hm?" He smirks into your neck, bringing his hands around to grasp yours.
"How did you-"
"Shhh don't worry about it. I got you express shipping too. You'll get everything this week." He places a hand on your chin and gently turns your face to him and he kisses you, making you feel a warmth that no fire could ever provide nor compare to.
You're not selfish, both you and John know that. You don't need the little or big things he buys you, but boy does he love spoiling you with them, as it helps to heal the part of you that always felt guilty as a child when it came to spending and saving money on you, as your family never had much.
And there's nothing else John would rather do than spoil his pretty girl rotten just to see her smile.

Favorite Albums: choose 9 and then tag 9 people!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For my own sanity, I didn't include musicals because I could fill up a whole other 3x3 grid with them, and comparing musicals to non-musical theater albums is weird.
Those last 4 that you definitely don't recognize are by Old Earth who you should definitely listen to if you want artsy ambient indie folk with really intricate guitar. My absolute favorite artist by far, and also the most obscure artist I listen to by far.
Electric by The Pet Shop Boys — I think this is my favorite album period. I am still pissed off that Tom Scott called it "not that great" in the old Technical Difficulties podcast. Maybe I'm biased because it was my favorite album when I was 14 and because it's where I really fell in love with the Pet Shop Boys. God I love them. So much. I'm way too excited for the new album and I worship geowayne's website where he analyzes all their songs. I probably should have put another PSB album on here, but there isn't another where I'm in love with every track. Plus honestly so many of my favorite tracks of theirs are B sides. They still release B sides with their singles, and this album cycle, the B sides are honestly better than the actual singles. Anyway electric is pure synthy electropop and I adore it in that way you can only love something you first heard at 14.
Pure Heroine by Lorde — I read a quote somewhere where Lorde said she tried to really put all of being a teenager into the album, so much so that once she became an adult, she probably wouldn't understand or like it anymore. I can definitely say that I'm not nearly as attached to it anymore now that I'm an adult, but God, it was my life when I was 13. She really did capture the unique ennui of being a teenager. I wrote a novel in eighth grade, and I wrote at least half of it to tracks from this album. Also, hot take: Royals is my least favorite track by a lot. Buzzcut Season is my favorite.
My Head is an Animal by Of Monsters and Men — God, this one was my life when I was like, 12. I fell in love with folk there, and I'm still in love nearly a decade later. Another album where I still love every track.
Strange Trails by Lord Huron — hey look, an album I actually discovered and came to love as an adult! The fact that I love Lord Huron's brand of folky horror/fantasy/western music that tell stories with characters should not surprise anyone. Also, if I had to describe my experience with schizophrenia in one song, I'd choose Meet Me in the Woods.
The Tragic Treasury by The Gothic Archies — Look. Hear me out. Is it a album based purely on A Series of Unfortunate Events? Yes. But. Is it also an album where I genuinely love every track and have genuinely been known to just throw it on shuffle? Yes. I mean I think of one lyric from this album, like, weekly. I swear it's not just ASOUE brainrot that makes me like it so much. If it'd ever gotten a vinyl release, I'd absolutely own it. I wish it had gotten one.
a low place at The Old Place by Old Earth — honestly this is probably only my favorite Old Earth album because it's the one that I was able to actually get on vinyl and being able to play that vinyl is so lovely. I mean, it's good, but so is everything by Old Earth. Then again, Less Words is my favorite single track by them and it is on this album. Look. All the Old Earth albums I've listed here are, at most, 20 minutes long. If you like ambient artsy indie folk with lyrics that are there more for the way they sound than their meaning, try one.
light shaped by Old Earth — god the lyrics to this one. Normally I don't like Old Earth for the lyrics but. "It gets old/then it's done" and "what if it's just some song that gets you home" and especially "I'm holding your arms/and you're holding my eyes/and I lie like the right thing to do" are all just so great. And so is the middle track with no lyrics.
... until they're called by Old Earth — have you ever heard an album so good that you a) just played the whole thing and danced to it in your basement nonstop for the full 12 minutes, and then b) wrote a poem about the experience? People talk about finding God, but dancing to that album was the moment I found athiesm. The beauty of us all being here for no reason, just feeling things and living and doing our best to make something beautiful out of it.
Two Torches, at a Place Where Three Roads Meet by Old Earth — I'll be honest, I don't have much to say about this one. They're just a really solid three tracks.
... Yeah okay I really like Old Earth. Don't judge me.
Thank you @cygninae and @thehistoryone for tagging me! I'll tag @ven10 (I'm surprised neither of the people who tagged me tagged you), @weirdthoughtsandideas (ditto), @70snasagay (hmmmm i wonder what you'll put), @cat-boy-tom, @thetreetzar, @buncoreclown, @notthatalex, @unfortunate-sapphic-disaster, and @roach-in-the-kitchen. No pressure, obviously!

It’s impossible to not love jikook.
Their chemistry is so natural, so effortless, so comfortable. Whatever brain cell Jungkook has you know Jimin shares it. They complement each other in their physical athleticism, in their easygoing / mischievous / crackhead personalities, in their competitiveness, in even how they relate to the other five members.
I’m yet to watch the full RUN episode, I’ve only seen some clips some friends have sent me while I run to a work lunch, but now I’ve got this silly smile on my face because two men I love, Jimin and Jungkook, exist on the same planet I do.
In other news, HYBE is giving a masterclass in class compared to the dumpster fire that is SM right now, though at this point with how deplorable SM’s management have behaved recently, that’s not even saying much. The latest HYBE financials confirm what I’ve said in my last few posts on HYBE’s corporate news i.e. HYBE not neglecting BTS and how BTS continues to be the primary revenue driver even on ‘hiatus’ (I think I recall @guacamoli-avocadorado sending an ask on this. HYBE’s latest filings are available on their website so you can confirm, but I’m sure there are also screengrabs all over Twitter at this point. Just FYI 💜.) It’s also confirmed Jimin will release PJM1 in March.
For the other anon who just sent in an ask on the downside of this SM deal for HYBE - HYBE has already gotten their pound of flesh in terms of LSM’s stake (consensus view is the injunction is in his favour), a validation of the business mode HYBE developed years ago that SM now wants to replicate in their SM 3.0 plan, and SM’s management has single-handedly done most of the damage to their brand already. But then again, they’d damaged their brand years ago when several of their own artists filed lawsuits detailing extreme physical abuse, when the company was fined for fraud several times, when the ceo wound up on Interpol’s most wanted list, when SM bought Woolim Entertainment to shelf Infinite and every other talent under that agency, etc. It didn’t stop the wider k-pop fandom/industry from developing selective blindness and amnesia to all this though, neither did it stop SM from continuing verifiably corrupt dealings. So despite this latest embarrassment only being more so because of international eyes on this mess, expect the status quo from the wider k-pop space to remain by year-end. HYBE will maintain a notable equity interest they can monetize later, and likely some influence on management decisions.
Back to jikook, I’m so excited for what they both will get up to this year. Jungkook said he isn’t working on anything right now, but that guy has been writing finished songs since 2016 at least, already has a vision for his solo debut (multiple MVs, possibly for each song on the album, choreography, possibly including drumming performances in videos or live, likely a new slew of collaborators, etc), plus it’s only February. As 2023 has shown us so far, a lot can change in very little time, so I’m not worried about JK at all. He’s taking a breather, something very necessary for creatives (much less introverted creatives), and he’s been working full time for 10 years.
Jimin will bring sauce and heat and tears in his new album. I have zero doubts. Prepare your bank accounts and stay hydrated. 💜

right, pinned posts
i have a website which is probably the best place to see all of my stuff:
but to get a taste of what you can find on that site, keep reading
most people are probably following me for my murder drones stuff.
i write the critically acclaimed J/Uzi fic, Hostile Takeover
it's a novel length enemies to lovers slowburn, and distinguishes itself by pulling it all off without heavy alteration to canon characterization.
most people are probably put off by the ship, but i've received numerous comments to the effect of "i never liked this ship" or "i didn't think it could be done" followed by "but you somehow pulled it off".
give it a shot!
besides that, i've read a lot of murder drones fanfic, and maintain a page on my website dedicated to indexing and reviewing fics that i'd recommend
several of the people following me are writers, who may be interested in know that i've written several essays on the craft of writing. people tend to find them pretty insightful!
i've written many stories other than Hostile Takeover. you can find them on my site; there's too many to list, but in general, i write nonhuman character near-exclusively. (my friends were only so surprised when i became obsessed with murder drones)
still, HT is my best work, and i'm not certain fans of that will enjoy my earlier writing, and i have reservations about recommending most of them. A Chimerical Hope is still cool, i think.
the majority of my site is dedicated Black Nerve, a dark fantasy setting of my creation about giant sapient insect ninjas and corrupting fungus and gruesome mutagenic blood magic. there's so much going on there that i just cant get into all of it here. not even sure where you should begin reading
lore posts like "In Dialogue With Plagues", or "Lardsuckers and (What Were) Grubsuckers" give you a taste of just how freaky the setting is, and i think "The Duality of Mantis" is a great look at the weird psychology of the dominant species. but there's so many loreposts i can't list them all
writing is probably what i've done the most of, but i have other skills :3
i've released three albums of electronic music on bandcamp:
although i think my best music is the stuff i made for looptober 2023, which though not "officially" released (i'm debating whether i should spend time polishing them), you can still listen to it on itch.io or my site!
and there's more!
i'm sometimes an artist, and there's gallery on my site with over three hundred pieces i've drawn over the years. i mostly draw these weird alien dudes i invented, plus a bunch of praying mantises and dragons and pokemon. quality varies a lot and i'm bad about staying in practice, but here are some pieces i think turned out rather well
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ok, now is that it?
well, mostly. i have some poetry that's alright, a game demo that's kinda neat, but nothing i'd seriously promote.
if you read through all of that, i love you. thank you for your time and i hope there's something here you appreciated

Comprehensive Guide For Assassination Classroom Content
Because it's pretty hard to find a straight up list of it all. Please note that whilst I believe this is accurate, I was not involved in the fandom whilst the series was active and so could reasonably miss something.
Core Content
Assassination Classroom manga as serialised in Shounen Jump. If you buy the physical volumes, there's a bit of additional content between chapters, most notably introductory character profiles.
Assassination Classroom anime (some count seasons 1 and 2 as separate entities)
Assassination Classroom Meeting Time - an animated short featuring Korosensei and Karasuma's first meeting.
Assassination Classroom Extra Curricular Lessons - adaptations of a couple of manga chapters that weren't in the show itself. I'll just link a playlist here. Fun fact this is where Nagisa gets hit by a chair (lowkey he deserved it)
Additional Content
365 Days Movie. This isn't 'canon' as it's an anime original thing. There's no official English release that I know of. Honestly the movie is mostly a series recap, and only features Karma and Nagisa in new scenes. It's only really worth watching if you especially ship them as there's only maybe 10 minutes of actual content (and most of that is just montage, you can get the gist with this)
Roll Call Book - this was published mid manga run. It's mostly just a bunch of bonus content particularly character based. No official English translation exists, but snippets are easy enough to find online.
Graduation Album - as the name implies, it accompanies the end of the manga. About half of it is an art book, but there's extra character information especially about their post graduation lives. Crucially it includes a few manga shorts which extend past the actual canon ending.
Korotan A, B, C, and D plus Korosuu. They're mostly just Assassination Classroom themed text books (Seriously. My actual university book store sold them.) Korotans are for English vocabulary, Korosuu is for maths. Notably each book also contains a light novel (sometimes these are just referred to as 'the light novels'). It is debatable how canon these are as Matsui didn't write them, but he was involved through illustrating and overseeing the writing. Korotan D is especially debated because it's post canon content set when 3E are 18, but there's a small 'it was all a dream' implication right at the end of the book. Personally speaking I take them as full canon.
Official Spin Offs
The live action movies (part one and two). They change a lot of plot so I place them more in the spin off area. Easily skippable.
Korosensei Quest Manga (otherwise known as Koro Q) - a spin off gag manga set in a fantasy/video game inspired universe. This is not canon (unfortunately) and as far as I understand Matsui isn't involved in it. There's an implication of the idea it's Fuwa's own manga creation. Overall there are four volumes but there's no official English version (though fan scans aren't hard to find).
Korosensei Quest Anime - lightly based on the Koro Q manga. This is only a short 10 episode series though, and was complete long before the original, as such only the first few episodes are actual adaptations and it starts doing its own thing. All voice cast return so that's neat.
The OVA - basically an early adaptation of the Kyoto arc. Link here. It was released in 2013 so predates the actual anime, and a lot of the voice cast are different.
White day shorts featuring Karma, Maehara, and Nagisa - posted on official website as an otome game parody for promotion. Included because they're voice acted.
The 3DS games. They're region locked as far as I understand, and there's no translation of them. You can find it dumped if you know what you're doing with emulators, I've only played a few minutes of it myself.
The app game - no longer available. It was a gatcha tie in game featuring a variety of character illustrations.
Various merch lines and related illustrations. There are far too many to list and new ones still come out sometimes.
As I said, I hope I covered everything but there's a good possibility something slipped my mind.

Winter Reading/Arting/Writing Tag
Tagged by @blind-the-winds . Thank you so much! I do love tag games where you get to just ramble about things
Describe one creative WIP project you plan on working on over winter
Well... I'm in the middle of a demotivated slump at the moment (just generally) so creative writing isn't my top priority right now. However, winter break starts next week, so I hope I get regain some energy and get back to the words. Because I miss them!
There's a short story I've started drafting for an anthology submission which closes at the end of the month. I don't know if I will get it done and fully polished by that time, but I really want it to work out. I've been meaning to publish short stories for a while now, because I feel my writing style fits well with them, plus it will give me an advantage if I traditionally publish a novel one day.
And like always, I'm trudging along slowly editing APOM whenever I have the stamina.
Recommend a book
The Shadow Of The Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon is always my go-to recommendation when people ask for one. It's a gorgeous historical mystery set in 1940s Barcelona, about a young boy who tries to solve the disappearance of a mysterious author. The prose and characterisation are top-tier, and has one of the best uses of The Power of Storytelling trope I've ever encountered. (I actually have a review of another book by the same author sitting in my drafts. I'll edit and post it eventually)
The Master And Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov has the exact kind of macabre whimsy that I seek out in stories. It follows the devil (disguised as a magician) and a band of demons as they wreck havoc around Soviet-era Moscow. The plot is difficult to explain, but its very clever and vivid, and one of the only books to ever make my cry with laughter. I like to describe it as "Alice In Wonderland but with guns and vodka"
Winterset Hollow by Jonathan Edward Durham is a hugely underrated book, and one of the most imaginative I've read in a long time. All I can say about it is: Imagine if Wind In The Willows was a horror novel. It had such a vivid setting, and ended up being such beautiful tragedy. If your into folk horror or anthropomorphic fiction, you should definitely look into it!
Recommend a fic
Disappointingly, I don't read fanfiction. It's never something that has appealed to me, even though I respect it as a craft. To make up for it, I recommended three books above instead of one.
Recommend Music
Indigo Night by Tamino- To me, this song feels like a lullaby from a fallen civilisation. It has a very ageless feel to it, and the lyrics tell a beautiful fairy-tale. In fact, every song on this album touches my soul.
Bernadette by IAMX- Gothic, whimsical, and theatrical. This one has inspired me on a creative level many many times, and it still sounds just as amazing as it did when I first discovered it years ago.
Youngest Daughter by Superheaven- I heard this one the other day, and I wish I could send it to my 13 year old self. It has the exact sound and mood I was seeking out in music back then. There's a post on this website that went around a while ago that was like "nostalgia can make you miss the worst points of your life" or something. This is what this song is doing to me at the moment.
...

Not Sims - Just Reign
So I binge watched the final 5 episodes today and... I am emotionally compromised. See below for my ramblings and how I attempted to make album art a decade ago.
If you clicked keep reading I'm going to assume you don't mind reading my rambles so I'm just going to indulge myself here. I need to process and getting it out helps me process.
I first saw Reign during my final year of High School and fell completely in love. Quite aside from English History being a special interest for me at the time, Adelaide Kane and Toby Regbo were so gorgeous. Honestly the signs that I'm bisexual were right there but it just did not click.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you're my moot you will know by now I am a massive romantic. So of course I would get invested in the Mary Francis love story. Thanks past me for routing for Francis from the start, smart choice.
The outfits took my breath away, as did the wonderful landscapes. I fell in love with everything Mary wore and tried to find a graduation dress that was as close to something like that as possible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The music! I loved every track they put with the episodes. Shout out to that one youtube channel that was posting full versions of the songs. I have a playlist with the music from the first two seasons and have listened to it on loop so often. There was a website that would post screenshots of the episodes and I would copy paste and make my own album art. Not to do anything with, they were solely for me to see when the songs came up on my iPod.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BUT I only watched the first two seasons before I took a break. History wise I knew Francis would die before they had a child, but the end of season 2 seemed to announce his death was approaching and my romantic self could not handle it. So over the next few years I rewatched the first two seasons plenty, and continued to listen to the music. I tried to watch season 3 in my first year at university, I really did. But things were different back then and I could only find low quality episodes because legitimate streaming services were in their infancy, if they even existed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
During my post grad diploma I would take a train part of the way to my placements. It was on the train that I happened to catch someone watching Reign on their phone. Not just any part of Reign either, the recap that shows Francis dying and Mary saying goodbye to the coffin. You bet any progress I had made towards being able to watch it was reset.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Following the worst of my depression, last year I began to feel a proper interest in things I love again and I wanted to see Reign to its conclusion. So I got myself the DVDs for season 3 (I don't have netflix, plus I like having physical copies of things) and worked my way through. Since I hate spoilers I didn't want to read the blurbs included in the cover so I never knew which episode Francis would die in, I was happy he was in it for so long. The whole plot with Francis having made Mary a sword for taking back Scotland made me love them all the more.
I gifted myself season 4, the final season, for Christmas. I've been watching it in bits and pieces. I have this thing where if something is ending I try to hold off the ending for as long as possible. But today I was so under the weather that I did watch the last disc all in one go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Side note, Rizzio. I can't believe that actually happened! But wikipedia says it did. It really sounds like something a drama show would make up.
I've always known Queen Mary was executed for supposedly trying to kill Queen Elizabeth. I wasn't sure how Reign would tackle that. I figured they would do a flash forward or do that text over screen thing. I love neat endings but my heart could survive not seeing the end of Mary. I begun the final episode, saw Toby Regbo's name in the starting line up and immediately teared up. If he was in the episode then they were certainly going to show her death. Those end scenes, they made me happy and sad all at once. I loved that Francis was there for her, and I loved the flashbacks through their life together. Damn did it make me cry though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The main characters have had a place in my heart for a decade. So heck yeah I'm grieving the loss. I know I'll watch it again, so it's not a permanent goodbye, but it's tough to see the end of anyway.

Shakey Sundays #6:
Neil Young and Promise of the Real's The Monsanto Years
Tumblr media
Somehow this album is cursed in my biography. Every time I try to listen to it something goes deeply wrong. And it's no wonder: in the silly recording session photo above it looks like Neil is casting an evil spell on all of us. Monsanticus!
When the record came out in in the summer of 2015 I was suspicious; Neil had just released Storytone, and it sounded like he'd focused on painting the record's cover and washing his hogs rather than writing good songs. Plus I'd never even heard of his new backing band with their too terrible to be ironic name. Crazy Horse was alive and well; what was Young up to now?
But 20 years previously I'd been equally suspicious when Young got spooked by the Horse and buddied up with a different group of young hipsters to make Mirror Ball, and that record turned out to be awesome. And so I knew The Montsanto Years deserved my open-mindedness in spite of its clunky title and fairly gross cover art.
Tumblr media
So I turned it up loud for the first time with my buddy Matt. It was a beautiful day and we had an open road with two hours of drive time ahead of us. Maybe we'd listen to it twice!
But halfway through the album's third song, People Want to Hear About Love, with its inspired-by-Stephen-Still's-very-own-Joe-Lala bongos, and its gather about me young squires chanting, not to mention Young's crankiest grandpa vocal stylings to date, Matt and I simultaneously announced that the song sucked. We put on Zuma instead.
Even so, People Want To Hear About Love, stayed annoyingly in my head all day, and that day was dedicated to attending our friend's younger sister's funeral. I couldn't shake crusty grandpa Neil off at the graveside as my friend's 20-something little sister was lowered into the earth, her life cut short by cancer that came with touches of abhorrent irony: she'd been a nurse; her dad was a cancer doctor. You're wrong Neil, I angrily thought, no one wants to hear about love. Nor do they ever want to hear your song again.
I've given the record sporadic second chances since then. And every time I get to the fourth track, Big Box, I perk up. After all, it opens with Neil alone, playing a demonstrative and churning, here's how it works kids, follow my lead, riff that sounds like it's lifted straight from Mirror Ball.
youtube
But before you know it Neil croons "Too Big To Fail" in overdubbed fashion and rhymes "excited" with "Citizens United" (you know, the Supreme Court case that gave corporations the power to essentially buy our elections) and, despite some pretty exciting guitar interplay whenever Young shuts his trap, rather than echoing Mirror Ball the whole thing sounds like Young is hanging out with Kai Ryssdal or David Brancaccio on Marketplace. Come on Neil, that's my least favorite show on NPR.
Yesterday I gave the record yet another try: but again, no dice; my 15 year old ipod (no, I don't own The Monsanto Years on vinyl; I got it in true Dollar Bin fashion by checking it out at the library) played me the first two songs, the lyrically regrettable opening track, which isn't amazing but does not suck, and the pretty lovely, quavering Wolf Moon, before the device (it's the kind with a dial on the lower half; there are 22 thousand songs on the thing, and around 1600 of them are Young's), perhaps disgusted by my choice for this week's Shakey Sunday, cried uncle and died in what appeared to be the very real Steve Jobs kinda fashion.
I was able to resuscitate it eventually but I'm unsure whether or not to risk resumption of the album. After all, it's cursed! And when the terrible day comes, and my ipod refuses to wake back up no matter how many times I pressed down all the buttons at once while cursing, will I need to find another way, either through a very nonDollar Bin purchase of the vinyl or through Neil's old timey, betamax website, to listen to The Monsanto Years ever again? Or can I just stick with Zuma?
Well, let's find out the answer. It's a Shakey Sunday and I'm about to roll my ipod's dice, press play, and go song by song through the rest of Neil's far too long screed against agrobusiness.
The fifth song, A Rock Star Bucks a Coffee Shop, is a big No vote for the record. Yikes. I'd rather drink a big cuppa GMO than hear Young rhyme GMO with Mont-san-to ever again. Whoever is responsible for the whistling in this song needs to never purse their lips in my presence again.
I suspect POTR (I refuse to ever type the band's terrible name out again; I wish they'd named themselves Promise of the Real Sausages instead) are big fans of Young's live bender record Time Fades Away. Working Man's got that vibe but it's slick instead of shakey. Yuck.
In Rules of Change Neil gives us yet another version of the story he's been telling over and over again for the whole record: the farmers have woes; climate change is real; we're doomed unless we get on Uncle Neil's groovy train of love. Look: I'm an environmentalist already. I do what I can to eat sustainably; I ride my bike to work alongside my sweet daughter as much as possible; and I've got a bootleg gray water system already running out the back of my house as we speak, watering my trees with our laundry water. The simple truth is that I never needed this concept album, or any of Young's too numerous to count environmental anthems. I already know this stuff. I'm already angry and I already vote and if Trump gets elected next fall I'll lose my mind a second time. Frankly, Neil, I'd much rather imagine sleeping with Pocahontas.
But it's when we get to the album's title track that I start to wish my ipod was indeed broken.
youtube
The song is a terrifying double to Danger Bird: it's slow and brooding with caveman vocals. But the guitar is mostly sickening instead of life changing and everyone's chanting "Safeway" instead of telling me about Carrie Snodgrass sleeping around with some still unknown famous enemy of Young's and ruining his life in 75. I guess Neil's right, people do want to hear about love. And Marlon Brando. And the Astrodome. And me.
I haven't got much to say about the final track, If I Don't Know. It occurs, and it sucks less than most of what we just sat through. What I fear is that Young is letting some young hipster solo at the end of the song while he stands by, contemplating corporate sin. Jimi Hendrix is dead, Ira Kaplan is busy, Richard Thompson isn't interested and Stephen Stills sucks; no other man on earth should be allowed to solo on a guitar while on stage with Neil.
(But I'd be more than happy to have any number of women do so, however, from Leslie Feist to Myriam Gendron to the recently resurgent Joni Mitchell herself.)
Okay folks we did it. We made it through The Monsanto Years. You have my permission to never listen to it again.
Me? As of this moment, while I hit post, I'm already half way through the record for the second time today, and I'm kinda digging my time at the Big Box store. Looks like I like the record anyway.
Neil Young: even his garbage swings.

pinned post under construction :3
hello it is i. apuff. if you don't know me, you can call me puff or apuff, and if you do know me, you can also call me puff or apuff. if you know my actual name due to being friends (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE), you can use ann as a substitute
i like albums, concept albums, concepts, conceptual art, concept art, and art, and i also liked making that sentence
in case you couldn't already tell, i am obsessed with my chemical romance, it basically eclipses my entire waking mind
i also like webcomics like unfamiliar, castoff, aurora, i want to be a cute anime girl, heartstopper, and laika's comet
------
i have a few different tags for various things in my blog, like:
art (some old art of others' is on here, but it's mostly my art)
apuff's inane ramblings (inconsequential text posts)
mcr (My Chemical Romance is an American rock band from Newark, Ne)
dungeon meshi (you know what this is you're on tumblr)
miku (HATSUNE MIKUUUUU)
art save (things that are pretty, i'm trying to keep tutorials out of this now but i might forget)
save (like..general useful stuff, good websites, not very specific)
things i want to draw (self-explanatory, more for text posts that inspire me than images, which is "art save")
picrew (picrew chains. i reblog the picrew of people that i tag in these because otherwise i can't find them ever)
long post (posts that are long, this is mostly for blacklisting)
free palestine (self-explanatory)
remember this (desperate plea. i don't even know what i use this for)
art tutorials (TAG I JUST MADE UP NOW!!! i probably won't retroactively tag things as this)
-----
ok so for starters for trigger/blacklist tagging i'm using the format of just the thing in the tag, not "cw" or "tw" before or after it. for example, something with blood would just be "blood" not "tw blood."
for bright colors, i'm doing "eyestrain." i'm tagging things with flashing/strobing colors, lights, or light n darkness "flashing lights" if you're sensitive to that, please make sure you have it blocked since i can't cover the absolute myriad of the unstandardized tags for that specific thing on every reblog with it.
let me know if there's something i need to tag on a post, i forget a lot of stuff/autoreblog plus there's fears i don't know about and things
now palestine/gaza related posts are sort of a whole different beast in terms of tagging? i'm trying to put down "free palestine" on every post i reblog about the topic (cause you actually need to do that to get tags to trending) (plus overall blog sorting is good)
now obviously, the entire GENERAL CONCEPT of the current genocide is dark and upsetting, so know that i really can't tag every possible thing that could be upsetting. but, i'm trying to make a system of particularly upsetting things, especially pertaining to images & videos
ok so. for images/videos of children being actively harmed, as well as graphic text descriptions, i'm doing "child harm" this does not cover statistics of children killed or general comments on the fact
things like videos/images of gunfire, shooting and bombing, i'm doing "violence" like the other one this doesn't cover descriptions of those things happening.
"injuries" is self-explanatory- burns, bloody injuries, face trauma, etc, you get the drill (even blurred/pixely censored ones)
"dead body" is also self-explanatory, doesn't include body bags except if they have visible body part sticking out
tags that could mostly apply to anything (like "gun" or "blood") don't have any special tags, i just use the generic ones like i said above
still thinking of a tag for people being distressed about their situation/ their dead loved ones since things like "death"' are too vague and would cause overfiltering but i can't think of something accurate. if you have any suggestions, let me know.

Record Store Day Roundup: 2024 Edition
Another Record Store Day has come and gone. Did you snag that coveted pressing of that album you had your eye on? Hopefully your experience was as good as mine was, and you were able to grab at least something on your list either in-person or online afterwards. In this article, I’ll be recapping things I noticed about the most popular titles going first, providing feedback on the pressing numbers for this year’s collection, and ways to keep vinyl fans engaged with their local record stores throughout the year. Most Popular Titles Across the board, it seemed that the fastest title to leave the record store shelves were the ultra-coveted 7 inch split between Olivia Rodrigo/Noah Kahan for “Stick Season/Lucy.” The single was pressed on a colored vinyl, and was limited to 15,000 copies. If you weren’t able to snag this title, the good news is that it’s labeled as “RSD First” title, meaning that it plans to get a future pressing. Another title that was unique and in very limited quantities was a cool looking mini record player plus 3″ singles from a little band known as The Beatles. This Bluetooth-enabled mini turntable featured a Beatles-branded dust cover and was packaged with four mini singles of “She Loves You,” “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” “Til There Was You,” and “I Saw Her Standing There.” The cute set was limited to 2,300 units, and was partially responsible for the long lines during Record Store Day. Another surprisingly coveted release was the ITEIAD Sessions by The Japanese House, which was limited to just 800 copies. This set featured alternate session versions of In The End It Always Does, including an alternative version of lead single, “Boyhood,” and a cover of ABBA’s “Super Trouper.” This “RSD First” title will get another pressing, but this 6-track EP pressed on white vinyl was a hot item on the secondary market. The last “hot item” that I was lucky enough to get my hands on was the long out of print sophomore album by At The Drive-In called In/Casino/Out. This Craft Recordings “RSD First” exclusive was limited to 3,500 copies, and was a fast mover at record stores across the country. It was pressed on a cool, Purple/Green Smoke LP, and it sounds pretty damn dynamic to my ears on my turntable. The Introduction of Discogs’ Record Store Day Afters Another cool component of this year’s Record Store Day was the unveiling of an International Discogs database of RSD-exclusives from 13 countries. This is called the “Record Store Day Afters” website, and launches today at 3 PM (Eastern Time Zone) here. Additionally, other stores across the U.S. released their Record Store Day stock on Discogs and their own websites, at retail cost, as early as the day after Record Store Day 2024. This greatly helped me, and thousands of other vinyl collectors, in obtaining those RSD exclusives without being scalped on Ebay and other secondary auction sites. Recommendations for Improvements for Future Record Store Day Observances While my experience was overwhelmingly positive, I have heard from others in the vinyl community that there is still room for improvement in the Record Store Day process. The lines are a tough situation to navigate, but I feel like our indie record stores are getting better at keeping the lines moving by having helpful staff determine which titles are gone throughout the day and assisting customers with finding their wanted titles in a timely fashion. Other suggestions would be to limit the “flip through” process of the RSD bins by having customers with their lists handy to ask if certain titles are in stock so they don’t hold up the lines searching for a title that isn’t there. Many great indie stores across the U.S. were up front and communicative about their RSD stock, and this transparency will help out customers in feeling a sense of community with their local shops. The pressing numbers were fairly on point this year, with a few exceptions that I’ve already outlined. As long as Record… https://chorus.fm/features/record-store-day-roundup-2024-edition/

Song for Chapter 3: Can I call you tonight? - Dayglow
Chapter 3: Home Alone, Day ONE, Night ONE
The next week flew by quickly and you and Felix practically talked every day. It ranged from dumb topics to somewhat serious ones. You started to learn a little about his personality. However, his work and where he is from still haven’t been spoken about. You were curious of that, you also wanted to call him. Of course, you knew that people had those boundaries where they were too shy to call, However, he seemed very out there and outspoken. Felix seemed like a fun guy, and you were dying to know what his voice sounded like.
However, you would have to ask him later, because now you had work. You woke up just in time to leave too. Lea had finished training you and so today was the first day fully on your own. You were nervous, but part of you was excited, this was uncharted territory. You got up and stretched a bit, your workout with Taehyun last night was killing you right now. You ass was sore, and your biceps were screaming. You smiled through the pain; these all-nighters weren’t helping either. You couldn’t help it though everything seemed to be more productive at night plus Felix seemed to give you the most attention then, not that... not that it mattered... yeah...
Walking to your closet you grabbed a normal black long sleeve and a casual pant; it was in between weather, so you wanted to play it safe. Grabbing your backpack and phone you walked out to the kitchen.
“Hey, I am so glad I caught you before work.” You flipped around and saw Taehyun. You turned your head to urge him to continue talking.
“We are gonna head out to Soobin’s moms for the weekend, the boys are already in the car. You sure you’re going to be okay?” Taehyun leaned against the counter. He said yesterday he didn’t really want to go but you encouraged him enough. Plus, they’re getting paid for this. Either way, the sentiment was nice of him.
“I will be A-Okay.” You grabbed the coffee creamer and walked to the coffee pot. Taehyun sighed and accepted his defeat.
“Okay… We will see you Monday morning.” He grabbed his phone and house keys and headed out. You smiled to yourself while brewing your coffee.
Having these amazing roommates and friends really was a blessing, college was stressful, but they made it better. Maybe Felix went to college. He could have good advice. He seemed kind enough to help you. Maybe he would give you advice about Beomgyu’s girlfriend too, as much as you didn’t like her you didn’t want a strained relationship anymore. You made sure to make a mental note to ask him later. After your coffee was made you grabbed your stuff and headed out to work.
When you got to work Lea gave you a hug, “I am so proud of you after your training! Have fun today.” She grabbed her bag and headed out. Your shift today wasn’t too horrible, it was only from 2-8, you had the closing shift. It made you a little nervous having to walk home alone at night, but you’d suck it up. While restocking the shelves you heard someone walk in.
“Hi welcome in!” You turned, your hands full of albums.
“Thank you.” The guy smiled, and he literally was one of the most attractive men you have ever seen in your existence. Oh my god, y/n, ACT COOL.
Gaining up the courage and setting down the albums on the shelf you fully faced him, “do you need any help finding anything?”
YES! That was so good. Your voice didn’t even waver.
“Actually yeah!” He took a step closer, “I was actually looking for a specific album for my girlfriend.”
Oh. WELL WITH A FACE LIKE HIS YOU SHOULDN’T BE SURPRISED.
“Of course! What does she like?”
“This one group with a ton of members, I really don’t remember the name…”
In the end you had to play a guessing game with him, it took fifteen minutes to find out that he was talking about NCT. He kept getting BTS mixed up. Part of you wanted to pray for this girl, I mean remembering the name of her favorite group is literally the bare minimum. Plus, its only 3 LETTERS! This guy really needs to get it together. You were going to tell Felix about this later. After ringing him up, you finished restocking the store and sat by the register. The manager popped in for a few minutes to check in on you and give you a break, you really enjoyed your work environment. Around the last hour of your shift though you had a whole group of people come prancing in. They started asking about Stray Kids. This group was REALLY popular. Half the people that came in today requested Stray Kids albums. You pointed the group into the direction of the specific album shelf and let them have a party. Then the next thing you knew your shift was up and you were helping the manager close.
Walking home was way calmer than you expected, at least at first. You started to get really paranoid, and it felt as if you were being followed by someone. Panicking you unlock your phone. You debated on texting one of your roommates but that might make them worry for you more. You didn’t want that. Looking behind you, you DID see someone. Then you got a notification as you started to walk faster.
Tumblr media
Almost instantly you got a call on discord from Felix.
“Hello? Y/n?” You couldn’t even pay attention to how nice his voice sounded because the guy made the same turn as you, you didn’t even have to turn around to take note of that.
“Um hey baby! I am almost there! You said you were gonna meet me at that student store, right? Wait let me put you on speaker I have my hands full, haha!” You were absolutely panicking; you saw people do this online all the time. Putting him on speaker you prayed he would understand what you were doing.
“Yeah, my love I am on my way I promise.” Oh, thank God. Quickly you started rushing to your apartment complex.
“I can’t wait to see you I am practically rushing!” Turning around you noticed he flipped around and started walking the opposite direction. Taking a sigh of relief, you walked into your apartment complex.
“Y/n am I still on speaker?” Fuck, you totally forgot FELIX was on the phone. All that adrenaline led you to calling HIM of all people.
“Oh, um yeah!” You put your headphones in and started the walk to the elevator, “now I have headphones in, thank you so much genuinely, I had to close the store today with my manager and I have to walk through my campus to get back home, I got to my apartment complex though I am safe, and it was just really late and- “
You heard Felix sigh in relief, “so you’re safe right?”
“DO YOU HAVE AN ACCENT!?” You slammed on the elevator button; you heard Felix laugh and clear his throat.
“I do.” He continued to let little chuckles out, “you knew I wasn’t in America with the time zones AND I TOLD YOU I HAVE VISITED AMERICA!” He started laughing now.
“WELL- WELL YEAH.” You said defensively. Felix let out another laugh and it sounded like gold. Gosh your hands were a little sweaty.
“Tell me when you are safe in your apartment okay? I won’t even think about getting off the phone until then.”
Wow he, Felix was really a gentleman, “I will… Thank you.” As you were walking and making small talk you ended up telling him about the handsome guy who came into the store, not even knowing his own girlfriend’s favorite group.
“Wait where do you work? You never actually told me where.” Felix seemed genuinely interested in what you had to say, and he listened. He would make little funny remarks. As comfortable as you were, did you really want to tell him you work at a k-pop store? Not that there was anything wrong with it, you just remembered how in highschool you’d get teased for even mentioning the genre. You were really conflicted.
“I work at a music store.” YOU WERENT TECHINALLY LYING. “Where do you work?”
“That is a little complicated to answer… however your work sounds so fun y/n.” It STILL sounded like he was smiling. When you finally got to your door, you felt a wave of relief.
“I am at my door!” You practically cheered, “you can get back to work now, you must be busy. I am sorry for like begging you to call me.”
“Are you inside yet?” Felix asked.
You were looking for your keys, “Well not- “
“I am not hanging up until I make sure you’re inside safely.”
That genuinely made you fumble with your keys, quickly you unlocked it and walked in, locking it behind you.
“Okay I am inside, thank you again for everything Felix. Especially really saving me back there by being my fake boyfriend.” You had to bite down your smile. You heard him fumble with his phone a bit before speaking again.
“Perfect, I’ll text you when I get off work. Bye y/n. Have a good night fake girlfriend.” After that he left the call and it ended.
                Oh
                My
                God
You threw your phone across the couch and covered your face, why on earth was he making you freak out. This felt like middle school all over again. His voice was so smooth. You had to calm DOWN, you still don’t know the important things about him. Like occupation! He could be a hitman for all you know, or a pimp trying to lure you in! Wait, what would a pimp or hitman be doing on club penguin? You were just psyching yourself out.
Quickly gaining composure you walked to your room and grabbed your pjs. You were in a major need of a hot shower, and so that’s what you decided to do. You let the water wash away your stress. You couldn’t help but smile to yourself as you thought about Felix. You really couldn’t help it; he was such a gentleman AND HE LIKED CLUB PENGUIN!
MAYBE you were swooning for him just a little bit...
Getting out of the shower you walked out to the living room in a big t shirt and old boxers you had. Half your clothes were hand me downs from the boys, you didn’t complain, you loved it. Sprawling out on the couch you found yourself scrolling aimlessly on the TV. You didn’t really know what to watch, however your curiosity was still peaked with Stray Kids. Clicking onto the YouTube icon you typed in Stray Kids. The first thing to pop up was a music video titled Maniac, clicking it you were quickly enamored. You understood why they were so popular nowadays. Before you went to click more and deep dive into the music videos, you decided to tell Felix about them. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Taglist: @bloofairyfox @yellowroses-world @g4m3girl Taglist is always open just ask :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Authors note: Hi everyone! Soooooo I am gonna be so real. I find chapter 3.5 so funny (to me at least) I might upload it later today. I actually did all my math for the next week early (by accident) so I will have time to write more hopefully! I also got to spend some quality time with my family yesterday! My dad and I really love watching Bluey together because it reminds us of when I was a kid. My dad reminds me so much of Bandit its insane :')
Oh did anyone watch Chans room yesterday?? I didn't get to watch it before it was listed as private :(
Anywho! I hope you guys are all having a good day :) it is still freezing where I am so please bundle up if it's the same for you! Hugs n kisses <3

Fucking WayV and Lucas bro
IS BRO IN THE GROUP OR NOT- let's discuss ft. @ireneanon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So...
We've had idols be kicked out of groups from bullying, S/A, drug, dui scandals and such, do i believe this is probably bs made up from these women? 50/50.
I only say that because so many netizens have lied in the past to get those 15 seconds of fame and to yk obviously gain attention or the payment from the lawsuits and stuff IF they win.
However if we do have solid evidence (which I'll be digging into) that's a different story. People can easily edit (like bitch I'm scared) and make fake shit on some type of website or whatnot, the Photoshop is starting to be a new concern of mine..
MOVING ON THO- as much as I know about this situation and I'm neither SM or Lucas, I don't know how to feel about it or whether this is some type of bullshit.
Tumblr media
Would you rather feel the need to make a situation like this private and work it out IN PRIVATE? Knowing netizens, that's not an option here so what are we working with
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(photo doesn't belong to me, credits to the owner)
When I searched for the proof of these netizens' accusations, nothing really showed up, if someone finds something lmk cause I'm lost asf;
So, the girlies are mad, thinks SM is making him apologize- which- does happen, but I also think he could have apologized because he was scared of his rep and career, or wanted to get over it cause maybe it was bs.
There was no evidence of Lucas being in NCT's recent merch, his name, face, anything of Lucas' brand not found present whatsoever, which makes me like 70% sure that bro is not coming back or won't be back for a LONG time, talking the 'blackpink hiatus aesthetic' gone.
Like, yeah some members won't show up in recent merch in a hiatus, but very unlikely; they are still apart of said group. Plus if I'm not wrong this was from something like a season's greetings or some shit so album, understandable, but season's greetings? Yeah you're most likely gone.
Also speaking on the fact that fans haven't heard from him or haven't heard the words SM or NCT come out of his mouth since, I mean you could just be trying to stay low but bro is one of the most popular NCT members so I doubt anyone is gonna let him get a break. On top of that SM not even mentioning his name as much or at all anymore says a lot, so I'm saying that most likely he's going to be expelled or go on an indefinite hiatus.
So... Yeah I don't think he's going to be here anymore, if he is good for him, have fun with that but that's all I'm like processing right now. And if he does come back I will most likely be calling BS on the netizens' part if we see no evidence that he has committed these things, after all it says accusations.
Just, idk idk idk

Here is a pic of myself (accordion), my sister Lilly Cart (bodrhan), and my 3rd cousin Heather MacIsaac performing a concert of Irish songs and tunes at the Antigonish Heritage Museum, the former train station in my hometown. The acoustics are great in this space and there was a full crowd.  Volunteers from the Heritage Association provided tea, juice, and snacks for the attendees. We did a number of sing - alongs and there were lots of moments when the crowd joined us on beautiful choruses. A great time! "
James OConnor emailed a photo: "Hi Marc Here is a pic with Jim O’Connor and Jim Chetz Keegan of Boston Blackthorne backstage at the beautiful Colony Theatre in Woodstock NY with the Dublin City Ramblers. We opened the show for the Ramblers who sounded fantastic and were incredibly gracious to us."

So um. We are interested in the Mechanisms but have no idea where to start with listening to them. Any advice? Do we like. Listen to their songs in release and album order or is there something more we gotta do?
YES YIPPEE YES YES Okay I can help you! Number one, you don't need to listen to the albums in release order, you can start with any of them (my recommendation is The Bifrost Incident or High Noon Over Camelot, they are, imo, the best and strongest albums but they're all winners tbh), BUT!! With the exceptions of Tales to be Told I + II, listen to the albums themselves in order, not on shuffle! At least the first time round. The stories each mainline album tells are part narrative segments part musical, so don't skip around the first time. After that though do whatever, it's fun. You can find them easy on YouTube, either on their own YouTube channel or on TheVoidSings with lyrics! Also Bandcamp at the very least? I think. I mostly listen on YouTube myself.
Also keep in mind that TTBT albums are mostly stand alone songs, though many have callbacks to other albums or take place in those settings! You'll get the most out of all of the songs honestly after listening through them all a few times. These guys absolutely fucking packed them to the brim with subtle symbolism and layers of world building, it's great.
There's also the fictions on their website, which expand upon the stories they're telling and the world's within, plus a little more info on the characters each member is playing.
Remember to be yourself and have fun! Enjoy your free space pirate brainworms that will inevitably show up once you start listening. 💓
Also there's no "gotta" you need to do to get involved w fandom spaces imo. Just listen to the music and have fun! I reccomend when you're finished with it all making an oc, but that's more my personal opinion on what the best way to enjoy works is LOL

i‘ve never been a big musical person but i stumbled on your blog by accident and all the stuff you post about seems like so much fun!! what are some of your favorites, or recommendations to ppl who aren’t familiar with them?
Omg hi!! I have been thinking about this for a hot minute believe me.
My PERSONAL favorite musicals are LIZZIE, Murder Ballad, and Don’t Stop Me at the moment.
LIZZIE is a punk rock musical loosely based on the historical murder trial of Lizzie Borden. It’s pretty intense, both musically and story-wise, so just know that I’m advance if you hope to listen to it.
Murder Ballad is a rock opera about an affair that goes very very wrong. It’s a relatively simple plot so it’s very easy to grasp just from listening to the album. The music is legitimately some of my favorite stuff ever. I would definitely recommend this for beginners, aside from some meta stuff with the narrator it’s not too confusing.
Don’t Stop Me is about the troubles of growing up as represented through a demonic high school danceathon. I wouldn’t recommend for a beginner solely because it’s like barely above lost media. If you’re willing to venture into the depths of 2000s era websites and unlisted yt videos I would be happy to show you how to listen to this cause it like changed my life but also it’s way too much effort lmao. (If you genuinely want to listen or watch this tho like dm me I can hook you up)
As for other recommendations for beginners:
Carrie. Oh my god everyone pls listen to Carrie. It’s based on the book, so if you have even a vague sense of the story it’s not hard to follow. Beautiful music, and if you want to dig deeper, the backstage drama has actually books and documentaries on it.
Hadestown. You’ve probably heard about it, it’s really popular lol. Based on the green myths of Hades and Persephone/Orpheus and Eurydice. Will make you feel every emotion ever and there’s a really big fan community if you want more content out of it.
36 Questions. This one is actually the most accessible, I think— it’s literally a podcast. It’s about a relationship ending very messily (I won’t say why— spoilers!!). Again, makes you feel so so many emotions. Plus if you like Jonathan Groff (he plays the guy) you can check out the quadrillion other things he’s in.

Today’s mix:
Tech House Phenomena 3 by Dave Mothersole 1999 Tech-House
Gonna quote legendary electronic music opinion-haver Ishkur at length here in order to kick off this post, because he and I seem to be of the same mind when it comes to the mostly bad phenomenon that is tech-house music:
Somehow by incorporating the strengths of both Techno and House, Tech House succeeded in appealing to neither. So the result is something frustratingly banal and monotonous when it really shouldn't be...
Tech House straddles the razor-thin tightrope of something that doesn't have enough funky warmth for House yet not enough cold mechanicalism for Techno, so what comes out instead is something stiff, repetitive, and boring. It's such a disappointment, like the last season of Game of Thrones.
Tech House had real promise. It could have done great things with the tools it had. And it's something everyone hoped would happen, like feeding Scrabble tiles to a dog to see if it shits out a word. But instead Tech House wasted its potential on pretentious Berlin nightclubs and that aimless, meandering noodlyness that the Brits are fond of, like a 70s prog rock solo that goes on for way too long. Technically interesting but utterly soulless...
Tech House can be good. There is honestly good Tech House out there. I've even heard some. But finding it is a Herculian task of Sisyphian anguish in a Kafka-esque, Orwellian realm of Dostoevskian torment. It is possible to load up your music player with nothing but Tech House mixes, hop into your car, and drive to the other end of the continent and back and never hear the same song twice yet never hear an interesting song once. The odds of coming across decent Tech House are worse than needles made of diamonds in a rough full of haystacks.
So, a big yes to pretty much all of that. I'm always willing to give tech-house (and all genres, for that matter) a chance, but I usually end up being bored by it in the end, and this ephemeral 1999 mix from veteran UK DJ Dave Mothersole as part of London label Eukahouse’s Tech House Phenomena series is no exception. It's just always basically moderately interesting backbeats with nothing melodically interesting going on on top. Somehow, this CD has a 4.2 rating on Discogs though, which is pretty high, so while Ishkur says this music's appealing to no one, there are people who seem to actually really enjoy it. But I don't think I'll ever understand why, personally.
That said, there are a few rare occasions on this album when the music's good: San Jose, California's E.B.E. has a track that I've loved for a while now called "Distraught," and it's this dubby, electro-splattery groove that has no two bars on it that sound exactly alike. So, for a dance genre that's typically stifled by monotony, this one seems to stand out from the rest.
And the closer, "Luv Talking," from London's Pure Science, is pretty great too. It's something of an infectious party groove that already comes equipped with sampled bits of recorded revelers itself, so it sort of just has this naturally inviting post-disco house essence to it. And it appears to be exclusive to this mix too, besides its appearance on a 12-inch that's also called Tech House Phenomena 3 that was most likely released as a teaser for this mix.
So, if you'd like to hear that song in particular, or you're brave enough to admit that you actually love tech-house, you can message me for this mix, because I unfortunately am unable to find any kind of link for it.
And go check out Ishkur’s Guide to Electronic Music too. His website is a uniquely indispensable resource for learning about electronic music and the histories and sonic characteristics of its many niche genres. His depth of knowledge on the subject is incredibly vast, and his genre explainers are witty, funny, and insightful. Plus, the playlists he puts together for each genre are really good too, especially for the genres he enjoys, which seem to be a lot of them. I’m a really big fan of his work and his writings have definitely played a role in helping me develop my own eclectic and nuanced tastes in electronic music. Without him, this silly music blog I have probably would never exist 🥺.
