Someone will say something reasonable like "TERFS shouldn't be welcome at pride celebrations because they commit hate crimes against trans people regularly"
And then terfs will say "Actually that's homophobic why are you saying lesbians shouldn't go to pride."
Like fuck that. Fuck that. Lesbian does not equal terf.

what makes someone trans? if a black woman wasn't black, she'd still be a woman. if a disabled woman wants disabled, she'd still be a woman. if a heterosexual woman wasn't heterosexual, she'd still be a woman. if a trans woman wasn't trans.... she'd be a man 👨 😩 🤣 😂 😭 👨

The worst part of "gender critical" for me is... critiquing and examining the origin of gender in cultures from around the world is absolutely an important thing to do!
I love reading anthropological reports about early human concepts of gender and sex and sexuality. I think learning about how we developed our concept of gender is super fascinating. I think knowing where gender came from can inform us as we move into a future where gender expression and identity is not locked to your assigned sex, where all humans are free to express themselves in any way they like.
If that's what being "gender critical" actually meant, I think almost all trans people are in fact 100% "gender critical", because we are constantly examining the purpose of gender presentations, how we ourselves present, how that makes people feel, what impact gender has on ourselves and those around us, etc.
But there's a problem. The phrase "critical analysis" does not equal "negative analysis", it just means looking at the material with an objective eye and weighing its flaws and merits; analyzing the meanings, messages, and impacts that material may have.
So "gender critical" shouldn't mean "gender negative".
But it does.
"Gender critical" feminists are absolutely gender negative. I have not met a single one of them who is not a gender abolitionist. They have all told me that gender is inherently harmful and must be eradicated. Every single one I've ever talked to hates all aspects of gender and thinks gender only serves one function: to oppress females.
And that's not even getting into the bioessentialism, that's literally just how narrow their view of gender is. Gender = bad.
And that's just sad, because I think wanting to eradicate an entire section of human cultural expression is... uh... bad. Especially when you bring other cultures into the mix.

something i've been thinking about lately is how terf rhetoric frames trans people. (content warning for discussion of transphobic rhetoric, incidental misgendering & transphobic stereotypes from here forward.)
we hear a lot of terfs talking about trans women being inherently predatory, or at least "invasive" in their use of women's spaces. this connects to the talking point of the necessity "single-sex spaces." but they also create & "sell" a very specific image of what a trans woman looks like, or rather who a trans woman is. the terf "ideal" of a trans woman is an adult man in a dress who calls himself a woman to enter "women's spaces" and prey on cis women. they don't talk about teenage trans women & they especially don't talk about preteen trans girls, like Kai Shapley. in terf thinking, trans women are all adult men who "cosplay" as adult women in order to reap the "benefits."
in contrast, terf rhetoric only ever mentions trans boys; or rather young girls who are "seduced" or "manipulated" into participating in the "transgender craze." these "young girls" need to be protected from the trans "agenda" that seeks to corrupt them. trans men aren't trusted to know themselves. the terf "ideal" of a trans man is a teenage girl who wants to transition bc she has been misguided & told it will help her escape misogyny. they don't talk about adult trans men who pursue medical transition (or don't), they only ever talk about young "girls" who are being "misled" and "tricked." notice how they infantalize Elliot Page (an adult man in his thirties) because he exists outside of their image of "confused young girls who don't understand the consequences of their actions."
in other words, trans men are not given agency in their transition & lives while trans women are always assumed to have a nefarious ulterior motive. because terf rhetoric is built on bioessentialism, in their minds "males" are always manipulative & "females" are always the ones being manipulated. "males" are always looking for more power over "females." "females" are simply small & weak-willed & need to be protected from the "males" who wish to trick them. it's all bullshit, but terfs sure as hell are consistent with their marketing.
TLDR: terfs believe all trans women are tricking all trans men into transitioning because they believe all trans men are vulnerable and all trans women are manipulative.

If you're a trans self shipper, your f/o will always be there beside you (they may even be trans themselves!). If you live in a country or state that is growing/has been increasingly unsafe for trans people, they're here to hold you close, listen to you rage, cry, or vent.
