Yuri:

I would say that Yuri wants to be told he’s not a complete fuck-up, but every time he’s been told that, he’s been even less at peace with himself. So. (see: Trahearne’s dialogue regarding Apatia.)

What he REALLY needs to hear is that it does not matter if he’s a fuck-up. I think the Lastborn (our other resident fuck-up) is the first to tell him that, or maybe to cement what Ximone has been trying to tell him all along. Either way, eventually he must become secure with the fact that he has done both tremendous wrong and tremendous good by the people he loves, and that—despite everything—it’ll work out the way it’s meant to. Will he ever make peace with this? Probably not. He has a thick skull and a soft heart and needs to be taught this lesson over and over and over again.

OTHERWISE… take your pick:

From Trahearne: Literally anything that isn’t “kill me” during Trahearne’s No Good Very Bad Elder Dragon Depression  ⠀

From Ximone: Are We Good. You’ll Tell Me If We’re Not Good. We’re Good Right. You Won’t Hide Your Pain Like A Scared Animal Will You. Yuri doesn’t like being shut out of people’s stupid acts of self-sacrifice, especially when he could be the one doing a stupid act of self-sacrifice. <- man who is about to eat his words.   ⠀

From the Lastborn: An answer to the question “What are we……………” at least during their time on the lam, when things are tense and complicated between Yuri and Trahearne. But really, Yuri just doesn’t believe the Lastborn when he says exactly what he means. Mostly he’s afraid that the Lastborn is hiding how he really feels in order to protect Yuri, because it does not compute for him that a guy can be so secure in himself that he doesn’t feel bruised when Yuri takes shelter in him like some kind of older gay mentor-crush. (Nevermind that he’s younger than Yuri, and nevermind that this ends up growing beyond a relationship of convenience.)   ⠀

From Captain Marshal Logan Thackeray himself: something completely deranged and fucked up so that Yuri can finally put an end to this stupid, messy crush that refuses to die. (Ximone knows that no matter what comes out of that man’s mouth, this will not happen.)

The Lastborn:

Oy vey. Going along with the last ask, he does not want to be left behind, and both craves and loathes the idea of unconditional love. I think in general he wants people to be rigorously honest with him and with themselves about the nature of their relationship, because the Lastborn is a career straddler-of-boundaries, and he never knows where he fits in other peoples’ lives. (And I say “boundaries” as in boundaries of identity, more than relationship boundaries.) He is constantly bracing himself for the day when everyone wakes up and realizes he’s no good, or something.

Otherwise:

From Trahearne: we’ve been through this already LOL. But apart from mom-in-law drama, I think the Lastborn really wants to hear Trahearne own the ways in which he has hurt the estranged members of his family, or at least acknowledge their pain as legitimate. Part of this is for the Lastborn’s sake, but part of it is also out of genuine concern for Trahearne’s well-being, what with the whole harboring an Elder Dragon thing. My man you are one of us cockroach motherfuckers now, whether you like it or not. ⠀

From Yuri: Acknowledgements of humanity. Again, something Yuri is typically good at because of his bleeding heart. But when Yuri DOES have genuine beef with a group or with a person, the impulse to write them off as cardboard cutout villains hurts even more. The Lastborn wants him to understand that when he says these things, he isn’t hearing “those bad people over there” but “those bad people and also me, the guy he just inexplicably hasn’t realized is a Bad Person yet.” ⠀

From Ximone: That he’s smart/insightful/thoughtful. He thinks of himself as shallow for this, but it’s both a thrill and a source of imposter syndrome when Ximone—someone whose insight and perspective he really values—sees him that way. ⠀

From Haema: How she Really feels about him leaving the Nightmare Court, fucking off to the Silverwastes, making peace with Trahearne (and, to some extent, the Pale Tree) etc. He would Rather Die than use his words to ask this. At least until he finally gets fed up with himself and just blurts out the unspoken thing, in true Lastborn fashion. ⠀

Trahearne:

That he’s not a monster. but also don’t say that because this means you’ve fallen for mordremoth’s TRICKS!!!!!!!! and also he doesn’t deserve it. it’s messy in here.

Anyway:

From the Lastborn: There’s a conversation that they’re (read: Trahearne is) avoiding having about damage mitigation. I think it’s alien and uncomfortable to Trahearne that the Lastborn can revel in being a social pariah with ~dangerous powers. The Lastborn walks this fine line of rigorous introspection and self-regulation, which he sees as necessary to protect the people around him, while also whole-heartedly living in a world that’s committed to hurting him and testing his limits. (Or at least, he becomes this way after meeting Yuri and Trahearne.) ⠀ I think Trahearne wants practical guidance in this area, and feels like it’s his responsibility to learn how to control this uncontrollable Dragon magic, but admitting that he wants this is as good as admitting that he deserves to live. And also potentially endangers the Lastborn. So he broods about it. ⠀⠀

From Yuri: Oh boy. So many things. Every day is like a game of 6D chess. “Is it ethical for me to do smalltalk with Commander Yuri Six-Cants, knowing that I harbor an Elder Dragon? The greatest thread in the history of forums, locked by a moderator after 12,239 pages of heated debate.” ⠀ While he’s in the pits, I think Trahearne really, truly believes that getting Yuri (and the Lastborn) to accept that he’s a lost cause would bring him peace. But he is also Very aware that part of him still wants to be a part of their lives, what with how often he slips up and falls into old habits. This pulling in and pushing away is frustrating for everyone involved, not the least of which includes him, and it makes his desire for normalcy / a return to what they used to be (but can never, ever be again) all the more painful. ⠀ So like… Wouldn’t you like to know, Commanderboy. ⠀

From Ximone: LOL initially he just wants her to talk some damn sense into Yuri and the Lastborn. But failing that, I think he wants to understand why she fell in with Yuri when he had his little episode. It’s easy for him to write off Yuri’s actions as a lapse in judgement driven by sentimentality (and, like, he’s not wrong.) Substitute sentimentality for nihilism, and he can do the same for the Lastborn. But Ximone is a seasoned veteran at navigating impossible dilemmas, and so she’s harder to write off. I think it takes her two cents to get the shit that Yuri and the Lastborn have been saying to finally start percolating through Trahearne’s thick skull.

rant post about the online queer community

hey after going outside and talking to real life people for a while Ive come to the conclusion that most of the online queer community is just horrible for queer people. hi reddit today Im going to ramble on about how the queer space on the internet has somehow regressed back into separation under a more progressive and performative light. so after being on tumblr for like, fucking 7-8 years or some shit as well as experiencing other queer spaces on other social media platforms (twitter and reddit, mostly twitter) for only a couple years, Ive come to the conclusion that people are so caught up in their own asses that theyve completely misunderstood and forgot why the queer community exists. side note: I dont care how messy this post is or if the points made are all over the place, this is tumblr.com who gives a shit.

as far as Im concerned, a lot of non-queer and especially religious people really dont like us queers. unfortunately we were all born in a world where we suffer as a minority under laws and power that would really rather have us killed than working together. as such a collective of queer people started banding together under a community where we were finally allowed a space to be ourselves and live as people. the community consists of fags, dykes, transsexuals and whoever was in-between or outside of those terms. our relation comes from how we are rejected from living normal lives for simply trying to express romance or identity in a way that would finally make us feel alive. so it would only make sense to band together and make sure each of us finally have a home and a life we always wanted to live, surrounded by people who would finally accept us for who we are, right?

ya!!!11!!11one thats the whole point of the queer community, to band together and finally be treated as people. but the one problem that I see nowadays is that the current queer community just doesnt fucking do that. Im bad at formulating problems in an essay-like way so Im just gonna make a list of things and explanations underneath ok? :) :) :) 1. the queer community unfairly fetishes women: now theres nothing wrong with liking women sexually or romantically or whatever, in fact it doesnt correlate with the above sentence at all. Ive noticed in my time on using the internet, that queer people tend to hate or forget people who arent women. whether they are men, or nonbinary, or both, or none at all. women have a much larger audience than other queer people and its stupid. its gotten to the point where I forgot that the trans flag included women, men, and those who dont identify with either. I just got used to seeing them depicted with women or feminine figures that arent cis. I literally didnt make the connection until a few days ago that people other than women completely belong under that community as well, yet Ive seen so much trans discussion that only involve women and no one else. lets change that please, people who dont identify as women belong with the rest of the trans community. I feel ridiculous saying that because I shouldnt feel like I have to even formulate that sentence at all.

2. the majority of the queer community doesnt care about brown people: now there are a lot of online queer people who arent actively or intentionally trying to be racist but I cant help but notice that they tend to forget about brown people a lot, specifically black people now that I think about it a bit more. you guys remember when a new version of the pride flag came out and it looked the exact same but they added brown and black colors onto the flag? strange that at the same time the blm protests were also really popular and part of current events at the time as well, its almost as if it was simply a performative gesture to signify what should have already been obvious. even after those colors were added, black people were just forgotten again. Im not even going to sugarcoat it I dont think the majority of the online queer community would even care if black people just died, because they already dont. but this isnt just about black people either, anyone with darker skin tones, no matter the ethnic group, are either used for diversity gestures or completely forgotten about overall. it has been pointed out multiple times that tumblr staff has actively silenced or banned accounts belonging to brown people. actually the only time I saw tumblr even care about shadow banning was when they started doing it to trans women, what a fucking shit show. its so easy to care about people no matter their skin color its literally so fucking easy, why is it impossible for the majority of this community to do that.

3. why are we fucking separating ourselves from each other: hi Im sure youve noticed that Ive been saying the word "queer" over and over again. first of all, if it bothers you, grow up. the queer community have fought for decades to reclaim phrases used against us dont give it power again. second of all, I prefer saying queer over lgbtqia+ because it unites us all under one word rather than an acronym pointing out each little category of queer people. theres nothing wrong with trying to create an identity for yourself that means a lot to you and makes you feel more comfortable for yourself, but I have to argue and say that certain labels just seem pointless and belong under ones that have already existed before their creation. yet I dont blame people for using different ones than the labels that have already existed because I think we collectively failed to inform people that those labels can have multiple meanings. bisexual doesnt just mean you like cis men and cis women, it means you like anyone you want to. transgender doesnt mean you are now the opposite of your assigned gender, it just means that you arent cis. it also doesnt mean that you need to have surgery done on you or that you wear different clothes than the norm either. although I see the point of creating extra labels, I ultimately think they do more harm than good. we have to stick together to survive, any more individual groups then we are as good as gone.

those are the general points that Ive wanted to make anyway. I would love to type more but I have a feeling that the reading comprehension on this site wouldnt survive the first two paragraphs.

the last thing I want to say is that you should find more ways to be together than try and exclude each other, because while youre calling yourself a "foxgirl bi lesbian enby demiboy" there are queer people in real life being kidnapped and mutilated for simply trying to exist.

please for the love of everything that keeps us alive and safe, find ways to stick together.

“I mean, what do I get?”

The transformation was incredible. One minute, he’d been a scared old man, desperate, literally pleading for his life. In a flash, he was calm, back in the realm of numbers, and I was making a deal with a guy who’d eaten ramen for twenty-­two years rather than surrender any more of his future fortune than was absolutely necessary.

“Well, a twenty-­five percent commission is obviously out of the question. We’re talking about a billion dollars here.”

“That’s if I recover the keys before they exfiltrate any of that money. My commission is based on value at recovery, not initial value. So if any of this goes public and the value of a Trustlesscoin falls to zero, then I get twenty-­five percent of nothing.”

He looked sour. “If that happens, you won’t have anywhere to send your invoice for your twenty-­five percent, either. But, Marty, you can’t seriously expect a two-­hundred-­and-­fifty-­mil upside here.”

“Daniel Moses Lazer, you just got through lecturing me on the trillions in downside if those keys aren’t recovered. Note that I did not say that I expected any share of the positive externalities a successful recovery would generate. Just the direct benefit to my client.” I nodded at him.

“But a quarter of a billion dollars — ­”

“Or maybe it’s nothing. Or maybe I’ll find myself face-­to-­face with these killers you say you’d have to cower in a bunker over until the end of your natural life. Danny, I’m surprised at you. You know who I am. You know what I charge. You know I don’t haggle.”

He smiled, and I saw a little of the happy, well-­fed, successful second act that he’d projected when he answered his door. “Yeah, I know. But I had to try. Two hundred and fifty mil is two hundred and fifty mil.”

“A quarter of a billion dollars here, a quarter of a billion there — ­”

“Yeah, yeah. Pretty soon, we’re talking real money. You think you can do it?”

I shrugged. “Can’t say. I have some ideas about how to start, covering the bases, being my normal, meticulous self. You’d be surprised how often that works. If there’s a fast resolution to this scam, it’ll be because the people on the other side of it forgot to dot an i or cross a t. They have to make zero mistakes; I just have to find one error. They have to be perfect; I just have to be systematic. It’s why I play the red team. Advantage to the attacker, as always.”

“As always.” He checked his watch. “Shit, I got to get my phone for a second here. Can you give me a minute?”

“Sure,” I said as he grabbed his phone and mine, giving me mine back absently as he powered his up and logged in to it even as he slid through his sliding doors and into that picture-­perfect living room.

I didn’t power up my phone right away. First, because it was a game I played with myself: How long could I go without ramming its phosphors into my eyeballs? Second, because I wanted to mull over this job. And third, because I had a sense from Sethu’s body language that she wanted to have a word with me.

She stepped away from the painting. She really was very good. Whatever she’d done to it while Danny and I had been talking had brought it to life in a way I couldn’t exactly articulate, making it seem energetic, hinting at all the feverish activity in the home offices and garages and cars in that impressionistic landscape. She gave it hustle.

“Danny tells me you’ve done this work before,” she said, hanging her smock on the easel and wiping her hands with an oily rag.

“Since the earliest days,” I said. “Most accountants saw the spreadsheet as a tool for making their lives easier. A smaller group realized its potential for covering up financial crimes. I think I was the only member of that second group that wanted to prevent the crimes, rather than creating them.”

“So there were three groups,” she said.

“I guess so,” I said. “The bean counters, the crooks, and me. Pretty sure we used to all hang out in the same Usenet support group for advanced Lotus 1–­2–­3 users.”

“You’ve solved a lot of cases?”

“You make me sound like a detective. Yeah, I’ve made some of my clients pretty happy.”

“Danny said you just had a big victory?”

“Rearden Factoring. They’re financial engineers, leveraging supply-­chain desperation. If you’re a big blue chip, you tell your suppliers that you’re paying them on one hundred and eighty days net unless they sign up with Rearden, which will process their invoices in thirty days in exchange for a two percent commission. Rearden doesn’t charge the buyers anything for this; it just leverages up that free cash flow, turning it into capital for big bets in the capital markets, rotating its positions with every billing cycle. It’s a lucrative business.”

“It sounds like a dirty business,” she said.

“No dirtier than any monopoly scam. The bigger the bigs get, the better the terms they can extract from their supply chain. It’s the golden rule: they have the gold, they make the rules.”

“And you helped them?”

“I did. Insider job, but he made a mistake. I caught it.”

“That is a lucky break. Why would someone so competent in one domain be so foolish in another?”

“That is a mystery that I have pondered since I first figured out my old man was a brilliant mechanical engineer and a dribbling idiot when it came to politics, Sethu. If I ever figure out the answer to that question, I’ll be sure to let you know.”

She and I exchanged a look that meant something, though I couldn’t have said what. If Sethu was a gold digger who’d tricked Danny into having something to live for, I wasn’t going to fault her for it or begrudge her any of Danny’s holdings, assuming he had any holdings in a week or two. Teaming up with a young, beautiful, devastatingly intelligent woman wasn’t a lapse in Danny’s brilliance as far as I was concerned — ­it was his smarts carrying over from one domain into the next.

“Thanks for the history lesson,” she said. “Always fascinating to hear these tales from the electronic frontier.”

“Anytime,” I said as she picked up the easel and went back indoors, passing Danny in the doorway as he came out to me.

“Did she grill you?” he asked.

“Just a friendly chat,” I said.

“Well, then, you got lucky. She’s my equal partner in Trustless, and she’s also the beneficiary of my estate. She has as much at stake as I do here. Even before this incident, she told me I was too trusting. Me! If she’s willing to trust you, you should take it as a standing ovation in your little one-­man show, Martin Hench: Stand-­Up Guy.”

“It’s a performance that’s wowed ’em for a generation,” I said.

“Well, maybe this will be your grand finale. An old player who happens on a quarter billion dollars doesn’t need to perform for his grubstake anymore.”

“But you didn’t quit when you had the chance,” I said, before realizing with a wince that he had quit, quit everything and made ready to quit life itself.

He saw the wince, and his eyes and voice softened. “I nearly did. Maybe I should have.”

Im a very neutral person. Ive never destroyed anything but what have i given? Im just here. Im not particularly of worth, a simple one sitting. I like writing but im not a writer and I never will be. I love essays because theres a lot to say and I can force myself into existence with any topic. So really im an attention whore. Nothing wrong with being an attention whore! But when you get attention you need to use it. You cant sit quietly and demand that youre loved. Thats not how the world works. I want to be something. There are so many tings that I want to say here but i cant type them. This isnt a ramble. Words have meaning and I need meaning to be clear in what i write. I cant think of my own words so i use the ones of others. Not to plagiarize but i cant even think of a source material to steal a quote from right now. I am a content consumer, i should have sentences stacked in my brain for my personal use. I am likely never going to return to this document but i will not delete it. words arent there for me to waste them. I dont know what i deserve. i know that i have to do things, i am a person after all. i dont know where to go. writing is very different from talking. when you speak you might have an audience whether you want one or not. that doesnt happen with writing. i have no friends. that doesnt particularly upset me. i havent avidly tried to make friends and i live in south fucking carolina. i dont feel the need to appease bigots for a friendship where im trying my hardest to hide myself. i dont really understand the need to write on paper. paper can be destroyed. maybe its because i was rased on a digital landscape and told that the internet is forever. paper is risky. paper can be blown into the sight of those who oppose you. you cant erase the way that people perceive you. to further my above point or rather introduce it, i dont do things for myself. i invented a fake prompt in my head to pretend that this was an essay assignment to pretend that there was validity in my need to write.the prompt of course being “describe yourself in a word and expand on it.” my brain of course providing descriptions of how people would react to a paper where i make it very clear that although i fear death i don't know how im supposed to live. imagining being sent to a counselor despite the fact that there is nothing wrong with me and there are people with actual issues and i would just be taking up time and space. the fact that people cant validly have interests is so fucking depressing. even while i type immagaining posting this somewhere so i can know that people know i exist. some people just never get the fucking point and in this essay i will say fuck so many times because why the fuck nt. i dont have a reason to exist i definetly dont need a reason to say fuck. “this isnt a ramble” girl wtf is it then? i want to scream into the void and i want the void to hear me damnit! so back to my mortality or whatever the fuck. i dont know who i am and i dont know what i want and i dont knoe ehat the fuck to do about either of those things. i consider leaving every typo as an artistic mark of humility or sincerity or something of that genre but it woulf genuinly be so fucking unreadable its not even funny. im listening to a glee playlist right now. loveshack is such a bop but its not the vibe. not changing it though. im 16 years old. i know that thats not old but im supposed to be everything out. like “highschool doesnt matter in the real world” or whatever the fuck but it matters a lot for college. and “college -tin roooof rusted- doesnt matter that much” in the way that its not important where you go as long as you get the degree but its all that matters right now. college and high school are the things that im supposed to be worried about and i am aware of that and im already halfway through high school and i dont have time to be trying to be a kid creating beautiful mystifying things in google docs but i am.

if it's not much trouble and I only trust whatever you have to rec since your posts are great! but essays/books would you rec if i want to know more about top bottom history regarding lesbians?

tbh, no... like if this is about arguing if lesbians "can" say top/bottom or whatever then i dont think u need to read historical essays or something bc the insistence lesbians 'can't' use those words doesn't come frm history, it comes from the homophobic and misogynistic notion that lesbians don't penetrate eachother, and the erasure and desexualisation of lesbian sex (I know!) by men, very much including gay men. the men who are arguing this, it isn't ABOUT history, it's about indignance to the idea of women as sexual beings, women as "real gays", women as party to an exclusive boys club. the dynamic between us and gay men ISNT symmetrical, bc they hold power over us (misogyny) but we hold nothing in return, you get the picture.

the words top and bottom arent sacred history, they aren't a community or an art form that one group worked tirelessly to establish and another group with power over them came and took out of their hands. so I think lesbians "can" say top and bottom because well. we can BE tops and bottoms, and there's no reason not to use the language that exists for describing that. i can give you books where lesbians penetrate eachother and essays where lesbians communicate their desire to either penetrate or be penetrated to other lesbians, but ultimately i would just ask why you need to see that.. what IS ‘top/bottom history’ ?? you mean you want to know more about the history of women fucking? you need historical proof that women fucked eachother? or you need to see specific usage of the terms top and bottom??

re: characters not needing to experiance more adversity / there's nothing thtere to be explored. sometimes .. ppl like to write their fave characters experiencing things they experience? a lot of dsmp fans are younger, a lot of them are still in school, a lot of them r some shade of lgbtq, possibly dealing w bullying, homophobia, transphobia.. is it character accurate to write a specific character frm dsmp as being homophobic or not entirely accepting? maybe not. but its ppl exploring things thru fiction that theyre trying to cope with in reality. idk saying 'theres nothing to be explored' there doesnt feel like it gets at why ppl write fics like that

ok this is gonna be a long response lmfao. i reccomend reading up on like 90% of media about the lgbt experience. its overused. im not saying its a completely useless narrative but if its the only narrative you give gay and trans characters because its "realistic" or "reflective of real lgbt experiences" then you're ignoring a whole other portion of the community.

The message that's feeding gay and trans kids is "be gay or trans and you will suffer" over and over again. I always say (loosely quoted from the amazing author/video essayist timothy hickson) that media centered around stuff like sexuality, race, mental illness, etc, will always have that A audience who isn't affected but can be educated on a more surface level, and that B audience, who already knows this shit and might need something deeper. (x if you wanna see the essay). And a lot of the gay films like Love, Simon, But I'm a Cheerleader, Boys Don't Cry, etc, feel more catered to that A audience than the B audience.

If you wanna disagree with that, that's fine, but as for me I think im just I'm tired of seeing it. Fantasy and fiction are a form escapism, so to introduce something as bleak as homophobia or transphobia into the narrative I feel discredits the comfort and optimism of just seeing lgbt characters living a normal life like every other straight/cis character, which could perpetuate a version of normalcy many lgbt people feel they might not be able to obtain. Not to mention is it dismissive of lgbt characters struggles outside of sexuality and gender, which reads like a cheap copout for writing their arcs. Also I'm gonna ignore you saying "fics" in the last part there because I have no idea what you pulled that out of.

tldr: i'm almost 20 and the only openly lgbt narratives (that arent buried in metaphor, that's a whole other subgenre of queer lit/film) i see that i dont have to dig for are to some extent about dealing with transphobia or homophobia and while that is a valuable thing to explore and discuss, it's not the only part of being gay. Sue me for not always finding pleasure or empowerment in stories like that lmfao.

wilbur is fucking incredible at pacing, involving people in lore naturally (letting them jump in), etc and i really really hope he puts that to good use once he's back from break, especially since people like tubbo and phil seem to really enjoy his writing and the things he does. i like quackity's writing but... everything you said about cliffhangers, things feeling stagnant, etc. i'd be much better with cliffhangers if they were a "this can get resolved in the coming weeks so this person can still stream lore/semi-lore during this time period" instead of "this can only be resolved by another big lore stream and they cant do much in-between" with the exceptions of like, things that arent super highly produced (see tommy's prison saga. while some of the pacing for that got dragged on a little bit, i think it's the best example of moment-to-moment cliffhangers in smp lore that get resolved in enough time that it doesn't feel stifling, and it was with characters that could stream in the meantime (sam) and characters who didn't need that (dream)). and while the way las nevadas was built absolutely plays into its appeal and aesthetic (a looming place we only see in glimpses), i really hope it doesn't set a standard, because watching places like l'manberg/new l'manberg, manberg, pogtopia, logstedshire, snowchester, etc unfold in real time gave them so much more appeal. my all-time favorite arcs are the exile arc and manberg vs. pogtopia and i think going back and revisiting what made those so special and popular (since i believe they're two of the most popular ones/are intertwined with other favorites) would really do ccs like quackity good. wilbur and tommy got it down solid, but i think others could really use the help

my favorite lore stream is literally 'wilbur and techno make cave better', an unplanned, unscripted, hour and a half long stream where nothing exciting happens (I have analysis half written about this that I'm determined to finish because I think it's on par with most of the exile streams and the wilbur pogtopia streams deserve respect for depicting mental health decline so well). you don't need fancy production (even if it's nice sometimes), just good storytelling.

but yeah, cc!wilbur's writing my fucking beloved. it's so satisfying to watch his story unfold, he's truly a master of it and his experience with storytelling really shows (I think aenqa has a bunch of really good essay things on it if you care to look they're v smart).

the way the pogtopia/manburg arc functioned was so genius in that it was a content goldmine for literally everyone involved, and tensions slowly grew as characters slipped darker and darker, until the horror of the festival and the pit crashed down. and yet, it never got dark enough that people couldn't casually stream lore, not for anyone except wilbur. it was just- so good for everyone involved, and to be honest, a lot of current lore is still banking off the relationships and sentimental value formed during that time.

anyway, I hope he returns full force, because while a ton of smp people are good writers, wilbur is by far the best 'head' writer/dm figure imo

an incomplete sloppy guide to ethical rpf

rpf (real person fiction) isn't inherently bad, as long as you learn how to do it respectfully-- after all, you are writing abt Real People. also note: rpf doesnt have to be an irl fic (where a CC is a CC in story), just a story using real people as the characters. that fantasy au where they all team up to fight god or whatever? rpf baby.

the line blurs a LITTLE with dsmp and other self insert-ish rp, but where i usually draw the line is if they're closer to their characters characterization or the ccs/their personas characterization. again, main point is rpf doesnt always equal irl setting.

im too lazy to properly write a full like essay or paper abt this, so instead heres a few key steps to follow to make sure ur not being Weirdchamp abt it all.

also keep in mind: these are rules ive gathered over my years of yt-based fandom(s) that also assume its a situation where ppl Can contact ccs enough to like. get their word on shit. idk how to handle big celeb rpf lmao good luck w that on your own.

tldr for ppl who dont wanna look under the cut: 1. respect cc boundaries at all times no matter what, 2. keep in mind that this is all fiction, nothing based in fact and that you are Not Their Friend, and 3. dont share it w ccs

until proven otherwise, assume everyone IS NOT okay with being written about. doesnt matter if they're a cc in the public eyes, see if they're okay w it to begin with. some are, some arent.

the above statement also includes a CC's family (including parents, spouse, siblings, etc) unless specifically specified otherwise as okay.. make OCs to fill those positions if you really need them, give em alternate names or whatever. but family of CC especially deserve privacy

never include a CC's kids. genuinely, idk a single cc with like... a kid old enough for that not to be creepy. again, give em an oc kid or get rid of the kid entirely.

so fave things are like: painting, driving at high noon, coffee with more sugar than is entirely reasonable, loudly and often pretending that he doesnt like kobras boyfriends, debating mad gear abt which bands put on the best live shows, getting piggybacked by pony to skate around markets n stuff, waking up before the rest of the crew and having a quiet morning to themself, the crackle of radio static right after a broadcast ends, <- similar but the soft fuzz of a record before the first song, staining their neck a little red the first time they wash it after dyeing it, softly opening a bedroom door to check on the people sleeping inside and then closing it again, the sleepy little smile the girl gives them right after waking up

jet star. absolutely its jet star. theyre the first person party Actually connected with in the zones and theyre SO fun and their energies match rlly well and they have the same music tastes and theyre like fucking clockwork together in a firefight and party trusts their judgement absolutely 100 percent in everything its just!!! theyre so opposite in terms of backgrounds and personalities and approaches to life in general but it helps them keep each other balanced and even when jets like. telling party off for something it comes from a place of love and even when party is being so completely overbearing and suffocating jet KNOWS its because of how much they care and how much they want jet to be in their life

also like yes party absolutely loves everyone they live with but compare jet to the rest of the people party regularly spends time with and jet doesnt have weird hangups about people taking care of them (ghoul) or purposefully take stupid risks in life or death situations (kobra) and they also arent a sometimes-struggling ex-wavehead (cherri) and certainly arent fucking his brother (ghoul AND cherri)

party misses cherry flavoured chewing gum SO much. every time party had cash to spare (long essay abt battery city economics etc to fully explain but know that actual spare cash was rare) theyd buy a pack of gum and savour it real slow until theyd have enough to buy more again. other than that like. prettymuch nothing lmao party's missing memories of basically everything until he was fifteen and the four years after that were just school and work and are STILL super blurry because of how affected he was by reeducation

TFATWS Spoilers under the cut

Literally the following is my thoughts and opinions, and there are probably some unpopular opinions lol. It's kinda really long lol.

Starting with some positives.

I loved how the two leads had storylines that mirrored each other. Sam needed to become Captain America and gain a title and Bucky needed to move on from The Winter Solider and loose a title.

Sam. Just Sam I loved him before but now I love him more.

Sam becoming Cap.

I loved Isaiah and his story.

I loved Sam's family, how they welcomed Bucky and the struggles Sarah had.

I really liked how they spent time with both Sam and Bucky and didn't forget the show was supposed to be about both of them. Often times shows tend to lean into the more popular or fan favorite lead and this show didn't do that. When Sam took center it felt natural and when Bucky took center it felt natural.

The Wakandans were great. I love Ayo and her friendship with Bucky.

Zemo was fine and fun enough.

John Walker was incredibly done. Wyatt Russell did an amazing job and the scene with the blood on the shield will forever be in my memory. Hands down one of the most impactful MCU moments.

I like the genderbend on Karl/Karli and the direction they took her character. People that go from sympathetic ideas to unforgivable means, make good villains. I think her more boring elements come from the lack of development she got.

Now on to the negatives.

This show could have been like two hours shorter and still told the same story with the same impact. Also earlier episodes, (maybe later episodes too I might have just gotten used to it and stopped noticing lol), had some weird ADR moments. IDK what happened behind the scenes but it was noticeable.

I would have loved it if one of the episodes was a flashback episode. The Sharon twist was obvious from the first episode she appeared in but like they thought it was good enough to save confirmation for the mid/end of the finale? Both her and Karli would have been benefited from a flashback episode.

Karli should have fought Bucky while Sam was focused on Walker. Sam could have had a moment where he tells him he will never be forgiven and Walker would responded with something similar to "I do what is right. I don't need forgiveness." Then when he becomes USAgent it lands more like the next progression in an arc rather than the redemption arc this could be interpreted as. I personally think this is a stepping stone and not a redemption but the MCU (and Disney) doesnt have a great track record when it comes to handling anything with nuance and the fans have an even worse track record when handling things that arent black and white. I guess my point is they could have handled the John Walker set up better.

Speaking of set up, this entire show was set up. This is my main and only real problem with this show. Nothing felt like it was resolved at the end. Karli even says she was part of a bigger movement. Killing her didn't change the fact a lot of people felt the un blip ruined their lives. People always shit on Tony for wanting to bring people back five years later instead of going back in time but like it had been five years, while some like Steve and Natasha hadn't moved on, others had. Some had better lives. Assuming everyone wanted to back to the way things used to be would also be a mistake. This has consequences too, as we see in these shows. But ruining the lives of the people who had bettered themselves would have been shitty too. And yea some people who had been bettered were worsened once again when the un blip happened but my point is going back and erasing the five years would have been shitty too. There is not really a right answer here as the right answer would have been to either stop the snap before it happened or to come to terms with the fact that the snap can never be undone. Leaving everyone as dead might have hurt, but it was the best thing for a community that had five years of mourning and moving on and counseling ETC. Ooof that was a tangent lol and I could probably write an essay so going back to my original point about set up. The flag smashers, or at least people who think the way they did still exist, Sharon Carter is the powerbroker but Sam and Bucky dont know and now shes back as agent 13, John Walker went from war hero to committing war crimes and his journey as USAgent is just starting, Sam has taken the Cap mantle and is ready to begin acting as Cap, and Bucky is both coming to terms with and moving on from his past. Nothing is actually resolved in this mini series. I know it's supposed to make you excited for the next movie/show/season whatever but have six episodes of little to no payoff IMO made for a flat show.

Building off the set up problem. This show had too much going on. Sam and Bucky each had their own personal journey (The A and B plot depending on the episode), Sam and Bucky being friends and their shared journey (C), John Walker and the Flag Smashers (the D and E plot depending on the episode), Zemo and the Wakandans (F), The PowerBroker/Sharon (G), The boat and Sarah which could be considered part of Sam's plot but since if you cut it out the only thing that actually effected Sam's journey would be the bank in the first episode and yet it still went on till basically the end I'm calling it it's own plot (H), Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, which might be part of John Walker's story but since it's all set up for her to take a bigger role in the future and his set up could be completed without her I'm counts her separately (I), then you have the big meeting at the end, the senators and policy makers making choices the vote that they keep mentioning and once again more set up... (J). 10 ideas by my count, all needed their own set up, follow through, and payoff. And yes some stuff like Valentina the pay off will come later but still... It's all too many plots! And thats not mentioning side characters that were new to the show that they wanted to spend time with but couldn't.

Even though I think the shows aren't comparable/two different genres WandaVision had two more episodes (and yes some were shorter but I already mentioned I think FATWS could have benefited from that), completed all the main plots and had Wanda's journey (A), Vision's journey (B), Agatha, Pietro/Ralph, and the citizens of the hex (C), Outside the hex Monica (D), Outside the hex everyone else and sure you can separate Darcy, Jimmy and Heyward but none of them were setting up future stories or had their own distinctive plot outside the hex thing like Monica so she is the only one I am separating (E), the kids who could be counted as an extension of the Wanda and Vision plots since they didnt really have their own arc or story (F). 6 total. And some of those could be combined. Like I think we should separate Wanda Vision and the kids but technically they are just an extension of Wanda. And same with Monica, her story was mostly intertwined with Darcy, Jimmy and the outside the hex stuff. I separated her since I think she had enough moments to herself and she set up secret invasion or whatever, but like Valentina being a part of John's story it is arguable. Of these plots only the missing witness Jimmy thing, Wanda's post credits moment a moment seperate from everything else, Monica's mid credits i think? moment another one separate from everything else, and white vision were unresolved. They gave Agatha an opening ending but it was still an ending. And yes Darcy Heyward etc will probably come back but the plot they had here was finished. So arguably they had 2/6 unfinished plots. And if you don't count Jimmy's witness as a plot and just count it as an unanswered question then 1/6. And technically white vision is just half a vision and the other vision got a complete plot so really it's 0.5/6 At best they completed 92(ish)% of the plots and left 8 (ish) % for future stuff.

In contrast FATWS only finished Sam's journey into becoming Cap, Zemo and the Wakandans, and arguably Sam and Bucky's friendship. You might be able to argue that Bucky had a full circle moment with the guy whose son he killed, but that is one guy and Bucky has been carrying around a list of people like that guy. It's not the end of a story it is the start of a journey. And maybe it is possible to say the boat thing had an ending kinda. 2/10 completed. maybe 3/10 if you wanna push it 5/10. IMO at best they completed 50% of plot set up.

Clearly FATWS is meant to be this way and thats why it bothered me. They want you to watch Cap 4 or whatever they decide to call the theatrical movie that will come after this. I guess I was just expecting it to stand on it's own, and other than Sam's journey into becoming Captain America, which was amazing and deserved in every way, nothing this show did felt like it could have stood on its own. I know it's arguable that was the main story and only story that deserved to end. But I've already pointed out all the other running plots this show had, and I think at least two or three of them should have had follow through in the show.

Someone who plans to never seen an MCU movie after these shows could have watched WandaVision and enjoyed it. That is not the case for FATWS. If you don't plan on watching any MCU stuff in the future you won't know how over half the plots of this show will end. THis isn't even how the movies work. They each tell their own story while also setting up other things, so it is clear they know how to do this.

I can see why Disney decided to submit it as a series and not a mini series. Not only do they not want to compete with themselves (nominating WV as a miniseries) but also this isn't a miniseries.

I guess to conclude I'll say I did really enjoy watching this show. It was fun and there were some great moments. It featured amazing character and amazing actors, but I wish it had bothered to finish more of what it started.

idk hot take but.... imo? coding isnt. even good. its not a diversity positive thing to ‘’’code’’’ a character. frankly most of the time a character isnt even fucking coded as anything, but even when thats truly the case, its not rly. representation. its half assed, its a cop out decision. it should be like. a last resort for when you Cant represent a trait, like if ur fighting censorship or smth. otherwise................ whats the point of it dude. im rly not trying to be black or white abt it but. minority rep is not the place for requiring ‘analysis’. just represent the fucking trait. if you want people to think your character is a certain thing... blatantly make them the thing. you dont make majorities play guessing games with their rep, why should i let you play me like that. i dont want your symbolism or ‘’’’’’coding’’’’’’. to me its insulting, demeaning, and does nothing for me. and thats just talking about when coding posts end up being Reasonable, 9 times out of 10... its downright eyeroll worthy. now ofc, however you choose to relate to characters is 100% fine, and you viewing their traits as relatable to your through your own minority lens is valid analysis! but its kinda inexcusable to ignore the social harm it causes to just. literally out loud pretend that blatantly coincidental or even Malicious character choices are actually intentional, and that this vague intention would mean anything truly progressive anyways, especially when once again, most of these ‘coding’ essays are written about stereotypes and baiting. coding at this point seems to be just... a fancy word for ‘a headcanon with a little extra analysis to fantasize that this was the truth all along, yaaay everybody agree with me’.

the term racebending was coined around 2009 in response to the avatar the last airbender movie a film in which the east asian races of the characters were erased by casting white actors in the three leading roles of aang sokka and katara 

whenever the term racebending is used in a negative light it is almost always a case of whitewashing like casting scarlett johansen in ghost in the shell or the casting of white actors of the prince of persia sands of time instead of iranian ones

this kind of racebending erases minorities from beeing seen in media and is wrong

designing a version of a character as a poc isnt serving to make them necessarily better it serves to give new perspective and perhaps the opportunity to connect even more deeply with a character it doesnt marginalize or erase white people it can uplift poc and if you think uplifting poc is wrong because it tears down white people or whatever youre a fucking moron and you need to get out of your podunk white folk town and see the real world

the numbers of times a bipoc particularly a bipoc that is also lgbt+ has been represented in media are dwarfed by what i as a white dude have seen myself represented in media is and that isnt okay that isnt equality and its something that should change not only in mainstream media but in fandom spaces as well

lets move down a bit further to the part about bullying straight people which is hilarious and lets also talk about the term fetishistic as well lets start with that

this person literally writes explicit pornography of a minor and an adult are we really going to let someone like that dictate what is and what isnt fetishistic

similarly to doing a positive racebend situation people may project lgbt+ headcanons on a character because its part of who they are and it helps them feel closer to the character and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that

depicting lgbt+ subject matter on existing characters isnt an inherently fetishistic action generally things only really become fetishistic when the media is being crafted and hyped by people who are outside of lgbt+ community for example how young teens used to flip a tit about yaoi or how chasers fetishize trans people

but drawing a character with top surgery scars or headcanoning them as trans is harmless and its just another way to interpret a character literally anone could be trans unless if their character bio says theyre cis and most of them dont go that deep so it really is open to interpretation and on the whole most creators encourage this sort of exploration because it is a good thing to get healthy representation out in the world

as for it being used to bully straights thats just funny i dont have anything else on that like if youre straight and you feel threatened and bullied because of someone headcanoning someone as anything that isnt cishet youre a fucking idiot and a weak baby idiot at that like the real world must fucking suck for you because lgbt+ people are everywhere and statistically a big chunk of your favorite characters arent cishet sorry be mad about it

lets roll down a bit further about the big meat of the issue which was when several artists were drawing interpretations of lydia as a black girl which i loved but clearly this person didnt love it because they have a very narrow and very racist and problematic view of what it means to be a black person

and before i move forward i must reiderate that i am a white person and you should listen to the thoughts of poc people like @fright-of-their-lives​ or @gender-chaotic it is not my place to explain what the black experience is like and it certainly isnt this persons either

implying that the story of a black person isnt worth telling unless if the character faces struggles like racism and prejudice is downright moronic 

why use the word kissable to describe a black persons lips now thats what i call fetishistic and its to another extreme if youre talking about a black version of lydia on top of that

the author of this post says herself that shes white so clearly shes the person whos an authority on the black experience and what it means to be a black person right am i reading that right or am i having a fucking conniption

how about allowing black characters to exist without having to struggle why cant a black version of lydia just be a goth teenager with a ghost problem who likes photography and is also black like she doesnt have to move to a hick town and get abused by racist folks she doesnt have to go through any more shit than she already goes through and if you honestly think thats the only way to tell a black persons story you need to get your brain cleaned

you know nothing about the complexities about being a black person and i dont either but you know wh odo black people who are doing black versions of canon characters they fucking know 

lets squiggle down just a bit further 

so the writer has issues with giving characters traits like a broad nose or larger lips if theyre a woman but if theyre a man suddenly its totally okay to go all ryan murphy ahs coven papa legba appropriation when approaching character design like are you fucking stupid do you hear yourself is that really how you see black men like what the fuck is wrong with you

none of the shit youre spewing takes bravery it takes ignorance and supreme levels of stupidity

do you really think you with your fic where a black lgbt+ woman is tortured and abused where you use the n word with a hard r to refer to her like that shits not okay its fucking depraved and yeah we know you love being shitty but like christ on a bike thats so much

on top of that theres a point where this character is only referred to as curly hair or the fact that the n word is used in the fic with the hard r like thats hands down not okay for you to use especially not in a manner like this jesus christ

also lydia fucking tells this girl that she shouldnt have lost her temper like she got fucking leashed im so tired why is this writing so problematic and also so bad

in order to get some perspective on these issues more fully some of the writing by the author was examined and on the whole it was pretty unreadable but i want to just call back to the very beginning of this essay where the person in question talked about holding canon in high regard but then in their writing they just go around giving people magic and shit and ignoring the end of the movie entirely like are you canon compliant or nah 

the writing doesnt even read like beetlejuice fanfic it reads as self indulgent fiction you could easily change the names and its just a bad fanfic from 2007

also can we talk about writing the lesbian character as an angry man hater like its 2020 dude and als olets touch on that girl on girl pandering while beetlejuice is just there like here we go fetishizing again wee
