I took this, when a group of us did a day trip to Mutorashanga in Zimbabwe’s Mashonaland West Province. Its the area’s green pool quarry that lures people to experience something different I suppose. There were a few of us, mostly if not all youth. Music, drinks, snacks, beach wear and babes all rising up to the occasion.

Locals would stop and watch us from the horizon. Hence our hero in the image. From up above, bike leaning, arms crossed and gazing at us - out of towners frolic (innocently) in his hood. I couldn’t help but wonder what he was thinking. Judging from his body language, I had to teleport to his possible perspective... And ask myself through his lenses...

1. Why would they come all this way to do this, when they have their own swimming pools in the city?

2. If only they knew what people use these pools for?

3. They don’t know the local stories of what has happened here?

To give you more context - I did not, at any moment, discern any shade of envious green from the young king. He just peacefully watched.

Now, the question that has stuck with me since then has been - what would it take for everyone in a country to be socio-economically, spiritually and mentally wealthy?

Everyone?

Everyone.

Was in NYC with family today. 🗽☺️ 🏙 I’m not fond of that briefly seen post that I’ve since privated, and I think it conveys the more toxic aspects of me. I’d rather not those be my main attraction. Being trans regardless of when you transition is not about preserving the purity of your looks. It’s about respecting oneself. It’s about being the purest form of you you can be. Is there transitioning of things essential to how you are received in the world? Yes. And one can get addicted to such transformation; I know that because I’ve been there. But it shouldn’t obfuscate my joy. What octave and gravity my voice sits in needn’t render me worried, although I’m too wise to think it won’t happen again. I’m deep in the process of healing and easing myself, and I’ve hit some bumps. I know not everyone will or can receive me. That’s okay. We stomp out cruelty, not indifference or disagreement. A part of me has some contempt, and I’m working to quell it. It isn’t worth me. Should I appear unseemly, let me at least love it. Perhaps choosing to see your own body as a trauma is feasible, but unhelpful.
