BIG CHUNGUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's kind of funny to see just how naturally Big Chungus, the demon itself, slotted into being a core part of the SiIva meme line-up. The meme, obviously, has cemented itself due specifically for how unfunny and Reddit-coded it was, something with no real comedic value beyond making fun of its oversaturation akin to something like Pickle Rick. During Season 4 Episode 1, Big Chungus suddenly showed up in a couple rips in April - a solid four months after the meme had effectively exploded and already became tiresome to a lot of people. KFaD2 took advantage of this and turned the meme, along with a certain bandicoot and echidna, into a joke contestant - a character representing the idea of "dead memes" being remembered purely out of irony. And as I've said before, if Season 4 Episode 1 was the competition, then Season 4 Episode 2 was the celebration.

After the tournament was over, and Cool Meme Team had made themselves known to the SiIva audience...Big Chungus started showing up again. More than even during the tournament, he sort of just became another meme in the roundup, and at this point most everyone was on board. The four or five songs used in association with the characters offer such a wide spectrum of melodies to use in interesting and funny ways, and rips like Bigger at Night (Chung Yard) show how the meme had gotten past just having ironic appeal. Its a genuinely incredible, authentic-sounding arrangement, to the point of even being used in its album release video's list of examples of just how good rips have gotten over the years. MtH has this touch for quality that is just indescribable.

As mentioned before, a big appeal of Big Chungus rips in particular to me is just how many songs the meme comes packaged with - its mainly using the aptly named Big Chungus song by CG5 as its lead melody, but later switches in elements of both BIG CHUNGUS | Official Main Theme by Endigo and Big Chungus by The Slopster as the rip progresses. A kind of variety gets to be injected into this already high-quality arrangement without having it lose focus from the core joke.

That joke, of course, being the very sensible and sane "What if Big Chungus was in Shovel Knight". SiIva truly is wonderful for enabling things like this happen - and for it to always be of such high quality.

It becomes obvious early on that Harry is a bit lost and Gemma is worried about him. To help both of them, Louis is more than happy to help Harry find himself again.

As the summer goes on, the adventures and day to day happenings allow Harry and Louis to spend a lot more time together than either of them ever anticipated and Louis finds it more difficult to keep his growing feelings in check than he ever thought it would be. After all, there wasn't a chance that Harry would ever be interested in Louis... right?

this year was pretty busy for me! I graduated uni in december, had a big project in january, started an SMP with some friends, moved out, got a new job and moved across the state, traveled a bunch, went to at least three other graduations... it was a lot! and I got a lot of writing done!

The 2014 Bundy standoff was an armed confrontation between supporters of cattle rancher Cliven Bundy and law enforcement following a 21-year legal dispute in which the United States Bureau of Land Management (BLM) obtained court orders directing Bundy to pay over $1 million in withheld grazing fees for Bundy's use of federally owned land adjacent to Bundy's ranch in southeastern Nevada.

On March 27, 2014, 145,604 acres (589 km2) of federal land in Clark County were temporarily closed for the "capture, impound, and removal of trespass cattle." BLM officials and law enforcement rangers began a roundup of such livestock on April 5, and Cliven Bundy's son, Dave, was arrested.[2] On April 12, 2014, a group of protesters, some of them armed, approached the BLM "cattle gather." Sheriff Doug Gillespie negotiated with Bundy and newly confirmed BLM director, Neil Kornze, who elected to release the cattle and de-escalate the situation. As of the end of 2015, Cliven Bundy continued to graze his cattle on federal land and still had not paid the grazing fees.

Sitting To Know Your Collection Project 2024 (January - TBD)

So in 2024 I've been doing a little album listening project with my CD collection. Essentially every week I spin the picker wheel that is filled with a list of all the CD's from my collection, that I've cataloged so far and give it a few plays throughout the week.

For those who have decent sized physical music collections, you know there's just some stuff that doesn't get played or doesn't get played enough. Hate to say it, but some things sit and I figured why not try and dust them off a little bit. (It also forces me to work on my CD cataloging project.) It's called "Sitting To Know Your Collection" because the challenge is to sit with your music and get to know it a little better.

I have a friend who did something similar a few years ago, so shout out to him for most likely planting the seed in my head a few years before it would manifest into my own take.

All that being said, and I know I'm informing folks late, but I figured someone else might want to challenge themselves too, so I figured why not share my hella subjective rules that can be modified to fit whatever you got going on.

Rules and Such:

It can be any genre you choose, just pick a "new" album from your collection every week to show some listening love to. (New as in different.)

Track the albums for yourself or with friends.

PS: I made a tracking template if anyone wants it.

Go for as long or short of a time period as you want. (My initial goal was to go from January until the end of September, but I'm liking the project so much, that I might extend it out till the end of the year, who knows.)

This is a side quest to your regular music listening habits. Replay the album as much as you want, but at least twice works within the spirit of the challenge.

If you don't have any physical music but this still sounds fun to you, just hop on the streaming service of your choice and pick a new album from there every week.

No pressure. No Stress. Just fun.

Since I always show love to my soundtracks, they are not part of the project, neither is any album that has made it to my favorite albums of all time list. Just to be fair.

Last I try to only do full albums, but every once in a while I'll allow myself an EP.

So that might pose the question, what albums have I listened to so far? Great question! Because I'm sharing this like 3 months in, I'm gonna post monthly roundups for January, February and March. Then starting sometime in April, hopefully I'll get to sharing last week's album on a weekly basis. The good thing is though, I've been keeping up with it on my Instagram, so copy and paste will be involved.

Some positive things, widespread and personal, from 2023

Hello all here's my annual good things roundup, and as always I'll be missing a good lot of stuff that happened bc I'm pulling from the top of my head and also I'm running late.

In no particular order:

Some great indie animation stuff this year, with Hazbin Hotel news and episodes of Helluva Boss continuing and then the Lackadaisy pilot and fundraising campaign success!

Got the end of The Owl House early in 2023, and while it was not the ending we all would have hoped for, it was an incredible ending all the same and absolutely so well made.

Avatar: The Last Airbender has a new official TTRPG game, several of the OG cast did a playthrough of it, AND the trailer for the live action TV series doesn't look half bad! Also, Toph's VA has been reacting to the series. Overall it's been a great year for ATLA fans.

CLAMP announced that the continuation of the CCS Clear Card anime is on its way, and the Clear Card manga finished this year! The kids are okay!

Game movie wins! Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, along with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, were both great adaptations and fun movies where previously adapted movies of the same properties were so awful they make Artemis Fowl look barely passable!

Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse was super freaking incredible cinema and stupendous animation and score. And the animators got a break from having to cram the Beyond the Spiderverse movie in a year jfc.

The WGA and SAGAFTRA strikes I wouldn't consider positives on their own; however, the overwhelming solidarity across the lines and from us the fans and everyone in the same working boat helped the WGA and SAGAFTRA strikers stick it to the studio execs being literal cartoonish villains and get the things they were asking for after a brutally long strike period where the studio execs absolutely wanted them all to lose their homes and suffer. Power to the workers! WGA and SAGAFTRA strong!

BARBIE. No notes. 100000/10. You go girl.

But also the meme of Barbenheimer, absolutely genius.

GOOD OMENS SEASON 2!!!! HOOO BOY Neil Gaiman really shook us to the core with these ineffable celestial lads

The Marvels was a lot of fun! Kamala Khan and adult Monica Rambeau finally got to the big screen and they were so good altogether with Carol Danvers! Sadly didn't get great box office, but the movie itself being good makes up for that in my eyes!

Wonka was also a lot better than expected! Very fun and wholesome and heartwarming! Not bad Timothee Chalamet, not bad.

Critical Role's The Legend of Vox Machina season 2 was incredible, and a Mighty Nein animated series was also announced to be in the works! Plus, we got a Mighty Nein live show in London! And Candela Obscura premiered this year as well! And the Exquisite Exandria cookbook dropped in August and it's been so amazing.

Dimension 20 has been popping off this year as well, and several of its cast started Worlds Beyond Number, which is on a whole other level of inspirational and awesome.

On some personal notes, I got to spend time with good friends this past year (and getting one into TLOVM and Critical Role too, which has been fun)

And in that vein, I got into a bonafide Dungeons and Dragons campaign this summer, based from a oneshot I played in April by putting myself out there and trying something new. And man, this campaign has been one of the best things in 2023 let alone maybe my whole life. I'm so grateful to be a part of it and to keep going.

And this past summer, I got to go to a convention and meet several of my favorite actors including the cast of Smallville, Charlie Cox, Dante Basco, and Jason Liebrecht! It was so much fun.

I spent my birthday with my whole immediate family and went to Disney Hollywood Studios and had such a blast!

And I started more actively sending my writing out to litmags! While nothing has been accepted yet, I am ever more determined to be published!

There is much more good that happened in 2023 but for now, this is a good sample to end the year and beckon the new one forth with the same and even more positive vibes.

2022 Webcomic Roundup: Disability Pride Month Edition!

It’s the middle of Disability Pride Month, but that doesn't mean there should stop the focus on characters with disabilities. The eight webcomics featured in this month’s roundup celebrate various relationships, and stories, of characters with physical and mental disabilities. Webcomics featured are mainly from WebToon* and elsewhere.

In June, I reviewed animated characters with trauma and previously examined socially awkward characters in anime. This post is an extension of those articles but only focuses on webcomics. You may remember that I reviewed 16 webcomics for the "Wednesday Webcomics" segment from October 2021 to February of this year.

This month I'm covering for Brahidaliz Martinez who has artfully written prior webcomic roundups. So, without further ado, let me begin with these comics which fit with Disability Pride Month.

RWBY Quest

This interactive fan comic ran from February 2014 to May 2015, for a total of 1000 images. Based on the RoosterTeeth series, RWBY, it was a hit in the fandom at the time. The comic, which is for mature audiences and themes, features the show's characters like Ruby Rose, Lie Ren, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long. The latter has a prosthetic arm.

This is also shown in the animated series which features Neopolitan, a mute antagonist, and Professor Ozpin, who often uses a cane. These characters, and others appeared in the anime spin-off, RWBY: Ice Queendom, which began airing earlier this month.

Assigned Male

Stephie reveals she is autistic in an April 2018 issue of Assigned Male

This webcomic, by Sophie Labelle, a trans woman and cartoonist, features Stephanie "Stephie" Bondu. She is an 11-year-old trans girl, with the comic showing her exploration of this identity. She is autistic and later comes out as bisexual. This webcomic was originally posted on Tumblr, then re-posted under a new title, Serious Trans Vibes, by Labelle on Line Webtoon.

Nimona

Originally a webcomic, and later printed as a graphic novel, this fantasy webcomic is by ND Stevenson, who recently came out as Nate. He is known for his role as showrunner of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. This webcomic follows the story of a shapeshifter named Nimona who joins Ballister Blackheart, with both working to destroy an over-controlling institution. Ballister has a prosthetic hand throughout the comic, which mixed technology and magic. The comic was recently adapted as an animated film that will premiere next year on Netflix.

Adventure Time: Princess Robot

While there are various Adventure Time fan comics online like ones on Simon Abadeer, one sticks out: Adventure Time: Princess Robot. By Hierogriff and posted on Line Webtoon in 2017, it follows the story of Marceline the Vampire Queen and Princess Bubblegum as they go to a kingdom run by a robot despot. At the end of the comic, Finn is shown without an arm and a flower growing out of it.

This is consistent with the series which showed him with a grass sword growing out of his arm, then a robotic prosthetic arm later in the series. It is similar to the fan comics for series like Final Space, which show Gary with a prosthetic arm like in the series.

AspiGurl

A comic by AspiGurl about the life as an autistic girl

In searching for comics to add to this post, I came across an article about an autistic artist named AspiGurl illustrating her daily reality in 50 comics. What she draws is very relatable to people who are autistic.

AspiGurl's official website describes the comic as expressing the voice of autistic people through "anecdotes or reflections from everyday life", with suggestions from autistic readers for future comics. She also has a Patreon to fund the webcomic.

Skye

The cyborg first makes its appearance in the second episode of this webcomic

In this fantasy webcomic by Cynthia J. Schmitz on Line Webtoon features a cyborg named Cora. Also, the protagonist, Skye, has clear mental strife, as the equivalent of an evil demon is living inside of her. Cora becomes good friends with Skye and seems to have a crush on her, with their closeness growing over the course of the webcomic. Characters who are visually impaired also appear.

Da Yomanville Gang

In this fantasy webcomic by Jason King on Line Webtoon, Layla makes new friends and deals with old ones as she goes through family and interpersonal conflict inside and outside the schoolyard. She has a scar over her left eye, covered by hair at the beginning of the series, which has the effect of impairing her sight out of that eye. It is later uncovered as she becomes more sure of herself.

Hazbin Hotel

Vaggie lays out the deal they are extending to Angel Dust

Vivienne Medrano's indie animated smash hit, Hazbin Hotel, currently in development for a full animated series, is mostly known for its animated pilot. There is also an accompanying webcomic. In the webcomic entitled "Chapter 1: Dirty Healings", (presumably written by Medrano) Charlie and her girlfriend Vaggie are able to convince a pornstar named Angel Dust to stay at their hotel, which attempts to redeem those who've sinned.

Like in the pilot, Vaggie has no eye and it is replaced by an eyepatch, which is reflected in the new designs for the series. Some have also guessed that the pilot has autistic characters, but that hasn't been confirmed.

TAKARAZUKA ROUNDUP 2022.10.6

Obvs I have totally given up on any kind of regular schedule here, but today was one of those fun absolutely bonkers days I love to wake up to so here's a special edition roundup:

ICYMI, last week Makaze Suzuho and Jun Hana announced their mutual taidan. They will be leaving with Casino Royale in June. Their successors have not yet been announced.

The off day at the Grand Theater, which has been Wednesday forever, will be switching to MONDAY as of Yukigumi's opening day in April. Don't go to Takarazuka for food or shopping on a Monday because everything will be closed.

The official Takarazuka website has been updated, in a way that in my opinion as a professional designer is both less attractive and more confusing

Ayaki Hikari will be moving from Hoshigumi back to her original Hanagumi on Feb 13

The March/April Hoshigumi small theater shows have been announced. Rei Makoto will be starring in Le Rouge et le Noir in Drama City, as of today by herself, while her partner Maisora Hitomi goes on National Tour with Nagina Ruumi in Valencian Passion / Passion d'Amour AGAIN, the latter of which is presumably a revue adaptation of Kacha's 2020 solo concert. This is all incredibly fishy for numerous reasons.

Also ICYMI, JAPAN IS REOPENING TO ORDINARY UNREGULATED TOURISM on October 11, after more than 2 1/2 years. Get your Skype numbers and Takarazuka IDs and club paperwork and thick skin in order because it's a new world over there

TANNER’S PROGRESS REPORT: APRIL 23RD 2023 (SUN) ~END OF WEEK ROUNDUP~

Pleased to say I got some good lineart done on the PhDemon today in spite of having Bullshit™ to do! There's still more to do, but the progress is good and with a bit of luck I'll find the time to get him all finished in the week. 💜

Additionally, the written piece I've been working on this week has now been officially approved by the person it was written for, they gave me my gil, and the job is officially Finished. Fucking ideal. 💜

This week has been:

Four days' work on written a WIP (now done!)

Three days off

Next week is going to be Art Shit™. This is another project that is For Somebody and that I won't be able to show anybody else, but on the bright side, it should be fairly easy and hopefully might only take one week to start and finish, leaving me conveniently free to get back to the Patreon art on the 1st. ( b ._.)b

Right now, though, it's time for bed.

What have I been doing?

Well, I got sick on 6 April for two weeks, so while a lot looks like it's been done, it's all been crammed into the first and last week of the month...

➼ I wrote 'official' WIP intros for Astyria’s Star & Igazinyoka; and an 'unofficial' intro for What Alexis Did Next, which is queued for next month. (I guess the difference between types is how many graphics are in use?)

➼ I managed to post the short stories for Astyria’s Star to Tumblr, but not yet to Royal Road.

➼ I completed a craptonne of tag & answer games that have been stacking up since mid-last year. They're all queued up as I didn't want to swamp people with tags.

➼ I somehow convinced my broken brain to come out with two short Starbound fics (linked below, under ICYMI); I've also been building a bunch of stuff for the Spring Prompt list in Starbound (building is easier than writing when one is sick).

➼ A lot of the character development tag & answer games I've done have been focused on improving the Blades for The Ruby Falls. I'm stuck on rewriting it, so I thought developing these characters would help (because all Bethesda gave us was cardboard cutouts). Ideally I want them all to have a bit of blurb outlining their background, why they became a Blade, and any personality quirks. I'm also working in Heroforge and Canva to create reference images. That is going okay - I'm having plenty of ideas, but not much in the way of formal output.

What’s next?

Write/ Rewrite/ Edit more of The Ruby Falls (?)

Fill out the Blades better, as mentioned above

Post worldbuilding fics for Astyria’s Star to RoyalRd
