I just realized that the Once Upon a Crime Cinderella is the Anti-Stolas. (Warning for Spoilers just in case)
Stolas is a rich and powerful prince who is glorified and romanticized even when he neglects his daughter (Seeing Stars) and sexually coerces his "love interest" (Murder Family). Anyone who has a problem with him has to either apologize and switch to his way of thinking (I.E. Octavia, Blitzo) or be vilified (I.E. Striker, Stella).
Tumblr media
Cinderella is a poor young woman forced to slave away who's vilified the second she kills a creep in self defense. Yeah she did also try to frame Margot but 1. Margot abused her for years and killed her pet pigeon and 2. I feel like if Cinderella got arrested her family should've gotten arrested too for making her slave away yet that never happens.

ROUND 2C, MATCH 6 OUT OF 8!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under the Cut:
Persona 5:
[Mod's Note: Warning for Persona 5 spoilers]
Her Persona is Cinderella. Her story is about disguising herself as another person to gain acceptance.
Her persona is Cendrillon, the French name for Cinderella and the name of an opera based on the story, and it mirrors her arc in the game. When you boil her down to the essentials, she essentially made a wish that was granted by her....... fairy godtherapist to go from pauper (bland and talentless depressed Sumire) to princess (her dead sister Kasumi, bubbly, personable star gymnast). As far as she sees it, even, it's this transformation that helps her 'get the prince' (read: befriend the protagonist). Why should she win, though? Umm because she's my baby my angel my sweetie my cherub specialist character in fiction and most important girl in the universe. Out of love in your heart for me, tumblr user [REDACTED], vote for her.
GOD I LOVE HER SO MUCH ok ok ok everyone here's my autism. Major spoilers as you get closer to the end btw! - She has three personas, in order they go: Cendrion, Vanadis, Ella. The first and last are taken from Cinderella, with Cendrion being the german name for Cinderella, and of course Ella just being a shortened form of Cinderella. - She does gymnastics, although a lot of her phantom thief design is heavily based off of ballet as well! In particular the black swan mimicking the white swan, and while of course that's not cinderella, it does remind me of how Cinderella was treated in the beginnings of the story - Cinderella and her both have major sibling trauma! It's a huge point about her character. Major spoilers, but she pretends to be her older sister Kasumi for most of the game; the sad truth is that she's in fact the younger sister Sumire. She's pretending to be her older sister because she can't deal with the trauma of that day she ran out into traffic and her sister got hit instead of her. (It does not help that her therapist uses eldritch god powers to gaslight her into thinking she is her sister.) - They're both pretty and also I love sumi so much she's everything to me. unironically the character of all time NOT FOR PROPAGANDA but for mod: image because it can be awkward to find one: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/UyOsg26GnZU/maxresdefault.jpg also!!!! if you're interested in not potentially spoiling people you should call her Kasumi Yoshizawa. If you aren't worried about that though and want to be accurate, Sumire Yoshizawa is better. Or just call her Violet because that's her codename!
Initially introduced as Kasumi, she is a dorky and sweet first-year student who looks up to the protagonist as a mentor and eventually joins the Phantom Thieves in figuring out the fake reality they're trapped in. However, it's revealed that she's actually Kasumi's sister Sumire, who was always stuck in her more talented sister's shadow and yearned to be Kasumi. Unfortunately, she got her wish when her sister died saving her and her therapist brainwashed her into believing herself to be Kasumi. With help from the protagonist, Sumire realizes she was holding herself back and breaks free from her false identity, embracing her true self and rebelling against the hollow utopia. Her initial Persona--an embodiment of her true self--is Cendrillon, and her third tier ultimate Persona is Ella.
Sumire dosen't just pretends to be her dead sister, she was brainwashed into believing to be her by the final act's main villain/her fairy godfather figure, because that was her (misguided by trauma) wish as she believed that her sister was better than her. The final acts has a lot of 'making wishes come true' theme that connects her to Cinderella even more, also she does have a bit of 'save by the prince' thing going on with the game's protagonist
Cinderella:
her own movie screwed her over so bad so i need her to win at least one thing in her life ☹️ avoiding spoilers but once upon a crime cinderella is so kind and hardworking (and a hopeless romantic aww) and like damn let a girl fight back !!!!

I’m gonna start a revolution if I don’t get a part two of this movie. It was such a fever dream but a good one. I liked the plot twist and the changed yet similar plot to the actual fairy tails. The idea is nice and the characters are very cute, funny and unique. I love red riding hood and the niece of the witch, they are so beautiful!!! Also I want to see who red riding hood is meeting next and what happens, I like her skill, makes her a different sort of Sherlock Holmes, lmao.
Literal 10/10
Name: Once upon a crime
And can we talk about how underrated Margot is? She is literally so pretty even with the messy hair and mudded face.

I was in my bed cold and bored, searching on Netflix for a light but fun movie, when I found Once Upon a Crime. I loved the concept of a little red riding hood detective who befriends Cinderella and together they investigate a crime but the ending disappointed me.
Spoiler Alert
It turns out that Hans' murderer is Cinderella but it was in self-defense, Hans was a disgusting guy obsessed with cutting women's beautiful hair regardless of the fact that women refused to let him cut his hair. Unfortunately Cinderella had the misfortune of running into this creep in a scene that she uncomfortably reminded me of a predator convincing his victim to come with, WAIT THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING. Upon arriving at Hans' house, the stylist tries to forcibly cut Cinderella's beautiful blonde hair in a confrontation that reminds me eerily of an attempted rape but Cinderella manages to defend herself and hits him with a rock, unfortunately FOR HER NOT FOR HIM DISGUSTING HANS, he dies. Here I recognize that her actions are truly criminal although I still empathize with her because the victim is Margot, her stepsister who abuses her and kills her dove for being ugly and sells her cake. Cinderella blames her for the crime but it doesn't turn out as expected. planned.
Little Red Riding Hood discovers the truth and gets Cinderella to confess, so I prepared myself for an emotional scene where Little Red Riding Hood asks the prince for mercy for her friend, after all she was able to hide a corpse so that her friend can have a moment of happiness in her life. shit and had Margot arrested for one night for being a bully to Cinderella even though she knew she was innocent of the murder. Then the prince, who they said was so fair and strongly suspected the rumors about the disgusting Hans, would forgive Cinderella for the murder because it was self-defense, but he would force her to pay the penalty for trying to frame Margot for murder, showing us the girls that it is okay to defend ourselves from disgusting guys no matter how influential they are and the law is going to protect us but at the same time saying that no matter how bad they are to you, framing your bully for homicide is wrong and will be punished by independent law of the evil one, what is your bully because you are violating the law. After that, Little Red Riding Hood would point out that Cinderella's family is guilty of committing domestic abuse and that if the disgusting Hans got justice, Cinderella should also get it, the stepmother and her daughters would be arrested for longer than Cinderella so after paying her Crime would return home free from her abusers with the friendship of Little Red Riding Hood and the prince who loves Remi but pities her and developed brotherly affection for Cinderella. That was the ending I expected in 2023, where women can defend themselves against disgusting guys and have male friends.
What I got was a poor victim who is shamed for defending herself against a disgusting but rich and influential guy who got justice even though her murder was in her own defense while her victim didn't get her abusive relatives They were arrested for having her as a slave. Then the other girl Remi for not defending herself from the disgusting Hans, leaving her with a scar that depresses her so much that she hides even from her boyfriend, the prince, is rewarded with the prince's hand in marriage for acting for a year as if she were guilty of being attacked. by a madman while Cinderella is imprisoned for defending herself. Nice teaching, let that influential man rape you and then leave society so they don't see how hurt you were because you will be rewarded for your passivity with a handsome and rich boyfriend but if you defend yourself you will be arrested and no one will care why you did it If you are poor you will never get justice, you must be rich to get it.

So I opened Netflix on a whim since Youtube failed me, and a new movie had been released. Looked like a costume drama, so my attention was immediately piqued. Then I read the synopsis: Red Riding Hood and Cinderella go to a ball, and there's murder afoot!
I just had to put it on!
I'm of course talking about the movie Once Upon a Crime
Tumblr media
It started just as I was expecting. Over the top camp, like a stage play, brilliant costumes, and elaborate hairs. The protagonist, Red Riding Hood, is seemingly the normal logical character in this world of over the topness. This is enforced when she meets a witch and promptly ignores her (but we get hints that she has an incredibly dark mind, which was sadly underused)
I love that witch. She knew what she was playing and she went hard on the camp. Doing squats and pestering Red until she can cast spells on her. She didn't even get anything out of it 😆
This movie is very much a Cinderella story but with a twist (the murder plot). And I love how it's set up:
The greatest hairstylist in the kingdom *clears throat* Clair De Lune has been killed. A murder most vile according to the king who stops the ball in order to find the killer.
We learn that in this kingdom, being beautiful is everything. If you're ugly or dirty, then you have no rights (you see where this is going in regards to Cinderella?).
In comical fashion, the deductions are shouted out for all at the ball to hear. Until Red steps up and takes charge.
This is where the camp slowly begins to dissipate. With the witch gone, the king has only a few scenes. The true camp characters are nowhere to be seen anymore, and instead of a camp stageplay, it leans more toward drama, which disappointed me.
When I saw the king I recognized him from an old rpg style "fantasy" comedy series where he plays Buddha. Wish I remember the title now because that one was CAMP. But I just got snippets of him here, and left craving more.
Overall it starts promising, but falls flat towards the end. I wish they'd kept the energy up for the whole 2 hours. The story itself is not bad. There's potential in a retelling of Cinderella like this. Whether it should be a camp stageplay esque comedy... well idk. I think any type of genre would've worked. This movie however doesn't commit to the one it promises in the beginning.
Overall, I was excited, but now I'm just left feeling wanting for sth else.
