Hello Dr. Grey, was wondering if you have any recommendations for a good midi skirt? Feeling a little overwhelmed by my google searching

this is my new favorite ask, and came just as i was about to sign off for the evening. my heart, my fashionista heart.

so-- i personally do not wear skirts out of preference for myself and also practicality for my life (if you've noticed my ootd's never mention skirts or dresses). and the last time i bought one was maybe 2014 when i went to vegas?

lulus.com- i've gotten two piece sets from here, and the fit is always great, and I've never had trouble with the length like i usually do when there isn't Tall options (so i think they run long, FYI). but there's tons of options, they're cute and have a range of prices! also usually have some kind of sale.

asos.com- again, one of my fav places to buy things in a pinch. i get all my Basics from here, and they last for years compared to some of the other fast fashion stores (forever 21, H&M) that offer basics but fall apart at the seams in a second.

Growing up Grinchmas! Every year for the past seven years, since I was 14, I’ve not only gone to #Grinchmas, but I’ve gotten dressed up for it, too! Okay, friends. Come close to the screen because we have a lot of information to get through and we’re going to do it fast. Rihanna Robyn Fenty just made history again. And no, it’s not related to her upending the beauty industry with Fenty Beauty (though she did set a new standard for what a foundation shade range should look like). Nor is it the groundbreaking deal she secured with Amazon to show her Savage x Fenty show in 200 countries around the world, killing the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in the process. It’s not even her LVMH-backed clothing and accessories line, Fenty, that disrupted the way we shop for luxury items. It all centres around her latest Vogue cover.

On Wednesday, Vogue magazine shared its November 2019 cover starring Rihanna. “So proud to be on another cover of @voguemagazine wearing my own designs from @fenty !!! On stands October 16th!” she shared on Instagram.

Here’s where the historic part comes in: This is Rihanna’s sixth cover for the publication, which means she now has the most solo American Vogue covers of any black woman in history. Prior to this month, she covered the magazine in April 2011, November 2012, March 2014, April 2016, and June 2018. Previously, Rihanna and Shari Belafonte were tied for the same amount of solo American Vogue covers with five. (Belafonte’s first cover was shot by Richard Avedon in 1982 and she had five throughout the ’80s.) Naomi Campbell has two solo American Vogue covers, and Lupita Nyong’o and Beyoncé both have four.

Inside the issue, Rihanna talks about which fashion houses give her designer envy (Balenciaga!) and she breaks down the Fenty brand ethos. Jahleel Weaver, Fenty maison’s style director, tells Vogue that in order to cement the brand’s design aesthetic, he had to stop limiting it to one aspect of Rihanna’s style. “‘It’s kind of all over the place. But I get it ’cause I’m all over the place,’” he recalls her saying. “Every woman isn’t Rihanna, but many women relate to her all-over-the-place-ness. She is fearless, but she is also a businesswoman. She’s a girlfriend. She’s a friend. She’s all of these things.”

-black tanktop that says inclusion matters because it does, tucked into

-black wide leg trousers

-pastel pink loafers (would die for these shoes, and they're not flats they have a platform)

-hair in low bun with pink silk scrunchie

-no jewlery because guess who traveled and left it all behind so we have to run around naked and exposed for the next week

-eyebrows en pointe, i am tan* and glowing, tiny bit of mascara (again, we model this after the taylor swift Wonderland photoshoot circa 2014, which is everything i aspire to be)

Media massa yang bisa kita akses 24/7 secara online yang sedang maraknya digunakan adalah Instagram. Instagram adalah suatu media sosial yang dapat kita gunakan untuk mengirim/mempublikasikan suatu gambar dan video sesuai konten yang kita inginkan. Hal, ini membuat aplikasi media sosial online Instagram dianggap sebagai salah satu produsage yang banyak digunakan oleh seluruh lapisan masyarakat khususnya negara Indonesia. Para pengguna Instagram tidak hanya menjadi konsumer saja tetapi mereka juga bisa menjadi produser yang saya dapat gamabrkan, seorang pengguna media sosial Instagram tidak hanya melihat foto-foto/video orang-orang yang dia ikuti tetapi ia juga mampu untuk memposting/mempublikasikan konten foto/video yang ia buat sendiri maupun mengambil dari sumber lain. 

Produsage dalam Instagram juga memberikan saya suatu hal yang sangat berharga yaitu saya dapat melakukan publikasi saya sendiri. Saya mempunyai passion dibidang modelling (still learning and i’m still an amateur hehe) Didalam perjalanan saya, banyak penolakan and there’s still many bumps on my road. Dari semua perjalanan yang ditempuh, tidak ada satupun yang membawa hasil. But i dont plan on giving up, I want to go far. Setelah melihat banyak selebgram/orang-orang yang memposting foto mereka bergaya seperti model dan lainnya. Saya menjadi terinspirasi untuk memulai publikasi foto saya sendiri. If they dont want me in they’re magazine or others publication. Then I’ll start my own publication :) Still have many long way to go but I think a baby steps will be a worth to try. The point is Instagram membuka jalan bagi saya and I’m sure many people out there to be producer and a consumer at the same time! Jadi, tidak perlu masuk majalah lagi untuk bisa diketahui masyarakat, just use ur social media such as Instagram, Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, SoundCloud and many more and start publish ur content to get you on top.

Tetapi terdapat hal menarik yang harus dibahas di dalam Instagram. Yaitu penggunaan sumber lain / copy right and copy wrong / jika ingin memposting suatu konten di instagram. Ketika saya amati lebih lanjut, terdapat para pengguna yang tidak bertanggung jawab jika mereka memposting onlie foto/video orang tanpa mencantumkan sumber tersebut lalu tidak ada peringatan dari pihak Instagram akan pencurian tersebut. Pencurian Online ini sangatlah tidak terpuji karena susah payah orang tersebut menghasilkan suatu karya tetapi dicuri oleh orang lain yang tidak bertanggung jawab. Contoh kasus: jika di dalam youtube, ketika menggungah video secara online dan memakai lagu dari artis/content creator yang terkait tanpa ijin maka video tersebut akan diberi peringatan karena tidak mempunyai ijin untuk menggunakan lagu di dalam video tersebut atau video tersebut akan terunggah tetapi tanpa suara (otomatis dari pihak youtube karena melanggar copy right) tetapi di dalam instagram berbeda. Belum ada peraturan yang terkait mengenai hal tersebut. Hal ini yang merugikan sang pencipta konten karena kontennya diambil oleh orang yang tidak bertanggung jawab. Kadang beberapa foto orang dicuri untuk membuat identitas palsu. contoh kasus: Seorang yang bukan selebriti tetapi ia berpenampilan menarik dan selalu mengupload foto-foto nya di Instagram telah dicuri foto-foto nya tanpa ijin (Screen Shot) oleh pengguna tak bertanggung jawab untuk membuat identitas palsu untuk tujuan-tujuan negatif -> menipu, mengelabui, dll. Hal ini (kasus seperti ini) tentu tidak ada tindak lanjut dari pihak instagram dan media sosial lainya. Menurut kesimpulan yang saya ambil dari kasus ini adalah seharusnya pemerintah indonesia harus membuat peraturan dan pengawasan yang lebih ketat terdahap kasus teknologi elektronik. Tentunya hukuman yang membuat pelaku kapok dan tidak berani untuk melakukan hal ini (menipu dengan identitas palsu yang ia curi lewat media sosial) dan tidak ada korban jatuh untuk kedepannya. Tentunya, peraturan akan berjalan jika ada pengawasan yang bukan hanya dari pihak pemerintah. sebagai prosumer seharusnya pengguna akun media sosial lainnya agar selalu report dan block para pengguna yang tidak bermoral tersebut agar pelaku-pelaku diperkecil ruang geraknya.

Pelaku lain atau sisi negatif dari Instagram adalah banyaknya hate speech, sexual konten uploader (post yang tidak senonoh). Hate speech adalah suatu bentuk kebencian yang seseorang/lebih yang biasa dilontarkan melalui media sosial online kepada seseorang. Hate speech tinggi dilakukan dan marak dilakukan pada waktu 2014-2015 silam. Tetapi sejak ada peraturan yang mengatur tentang komentar benci maka frekuensi orang-orang yang melakukan hate speech sudah menurun sejak 2016 lalu tetapi tetap saja ada satu-dua orang yang masih melakukan hate speech kepada seseorang terlebih lagi pengguna Instagram. Instagram seperti gudangnya hate speech di kolom komentar postingan orang yang bersangkutan. Maka dari itu, Pihak Instagram mempunyai fitur baru yaitu fitur memposting foto tetapi tidak ada yang bisa mengomentari post-an tersebut. Komentar baik, Komentar buruk maupun hanya suatu komentar emoji tidak akan bisa dilakukan karena memakai fitur Comment Section Off di dalam Instagram. Caranya mudah cukup :

Contoh kasus yang dapat dikaitkan tentang fenomena ini ialah tentang kasus yang dialami Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift pernah mengalami masalah dengan Kanye dan Kim Kkarena Kanye menyebut Taylor Swift di dalam lirik lagunya yang seakan menghina Taylor Swift dalam lagu Kanye - Famous ---> yang membawa mereka kepada konflik tetapi Kim K (istri Kanye) mempunyai rekaman suara telepon Kanye dan Taylor Swift yang ternyata Kanye sudah meminta ijin dari Taylor Swift ketika ia akan memuat nama Taylor Swift di lagu barunya tetapi dengan lirik yang seperti itu dan Taylor setuju, tapi mengapa setelah lagu tersebut release Taylor Swift malah tidak setuju? setelah rekaman beredar, Taylor membela bahwa lirik yang sudah release bukan persetujuan dari telepon yang direkam Kim K ---> dari situlah banyak hujatan yang diterima Taylor Swift karena ia #PlayTheVictim dan banyak hashtag bertuliskan #TaylorSwiftPartyExposed. Taylor Swift menerima banyak hujatan di akun media sosialnya terutama Instagram. Foto instagram Taylor Swift banyak di komen dengan emoji ular oleh orang-orang yang membenci dirinya.

Taylor Swift pun akhirnya mensortir komen di Instagram miliknya dalam fitur instagram Comment Moderation yang dimana ia bisa menyesuaikan komen yang tidak pantas maka komen tersebut tidak akan ter-post di comment section taylor swift. Dalam sekejap orang-orang pun tidak bisa berkomentar tentang emoji ular kepada taylor swift lagi. 

Pengaruran komentar di Instagram sangat membantu orang-orang yang sering dihujat akan postingan mereka. contohnya: kasus banyak pengguna instagram wanita yang sering mendapatkan komentar yang tidak pantas dilontarkan. Banyak wanita yang sering memposting selfies, atau OOTD dan hal-hal lainnya. Bukannya mendapatkan komentar/feedback positif, mereka mendapatkan komentar-komentar yang bersifat melecehkan seperti “Cantik karena make-up aja bangga!”, “Ewh you should put on some make up.” “I wanna touch your body even though you are fully clothed, im so turn on with ur body” dan banyak sekali komen-komen yang tidak patut untuk dilontarkan kepada semua orang khususnya wanita. Entah mengapa wanita sering dijadikan objek sosial terutama di dunia instagram yang sangat maraknya wanita yang dilecehkan maupun ia meposting foto sopan atau tidak. Dalam kasus ini seharusnya orang yang terlecehkan dan semua yang melihat komentar tidak pantas seharusnya me-report pengguna instagram yang melontarkan komentar yang tidak pantas tersebut.

Dengan me-report seseorang pengguna Instagram yang tidak bertanggung jawab maka pengguna tersebut akan dinilai oleh pihak instagram dan jika ia benar bersalah maka instagramnya dapat dihapus oleh pihak instagram, hal ini sangat lah berguna bagi seluruh pengguna bijak Instagram agar pengguna yang tidak bertanggung jawab bisa semakin diperkecil ruang geraknya. 

Saya juga merasa bahwa komentar instagram yang menyeret dan menjadikan seseorang menjadi feel bad about themselves adalah komentar yang tidak pantas dilontarkan dalam media online sosial. contoh kasus: Saya pernah mendapat komentar bahwa saya diperkirakan memakai pewarna bibir di dalam foto foto saya padahal dalam kenyataannya tidak. Bibir saya didalam foto memang terlihat merah tetapi itu karena editan saja. Warna yang saya inginkan kedalam foto saya ternyata mempengaruhi warna bibir dan warna kulit saya yang menjadi kecerahan --> sering dipertanyakan oleh orang2 karena dalam dunia nyata kulit saya bewarna coklat madu And Im proud. Kulit saya bewarna cerah di dalam foto karena kamera canggih  dan editan yang bagus. Saya cinta kulit saya namun saya ingin foto-foto saya terlihat bagus (karena foto itu akan berlangsung selamanya, I wanna look good) jadi saya menggunakan aplikasi editan yang tidak sengaja menjadikan bibir saya berwarna merah. Seharusnya pada praktik media sosial online ini kita harus lebih menebarkan positivity ketimbang hatred. Maka dari itu fitur Instagram dalam comment-comment, blocking someone/account, dan report adalah hal yang baik agar seseorang tidak akan merasa buruk tentang dirinya lagi. And setelah kesini for once.... I dont really thinks about the others might think of me anymore. Saya menyadari bahwa selama ini saya terlalu fokus dengan apa yang akan teman-teman/ orang2 yang akan katakan terhadap foto saya tetapi Im not that kind of person anymore. Mulai sekarang saya akan tetap post foto-foto saya dengan tanpa ragu lagi ofc yang bermuatan konten postif ;))

It’s not a secret on my blog that I have been battling with anorexia for quite a while now. I’m not ashamed to write personal updates about it, or post about it on social media. Recently, however, I have been thinking quite a bit how the illness has impacted on me and on my passion for the fashion industry  fashion itself., and whether fashion really effected how my mental health problems devolved. Now I’m in a healthier place I’m ready to look back and see how it has really effected me.

When I was first admitted into hospital in Oxford in 2014 I had a few professionals question my choice of degree (Fashion Management with Marketing ) saying they didn’t think it was exactly helpful studying fashion. But I can 100% tell you now that studying fashion, and the industry as a whole, was never the reason why I developed anorexia contrary to what the media tells us. I told them that my degree was more behind the scene, more about the business side, which in all fairness it was. Even as recently as last year when I had a meeting with my current consultant, she questioned my choice of occupation at the time (last year I was working for a local online retailer). I told her the company cared more about attitude than looks. 

However, I’ve been questioning myself about how helpful is it to me that I work for Miss Selfridge in my local shopping centre and am constantly surrounded by out of proportion mannequins who wear a size 8, are 6ft tall and have size 4/5 feet.I know rationally that it’s not real; no one is really that size. 

When I was really ill I had this sick and twisted satisfaction that I was thinner than those mannequins. Now, deep down I know I looked awful; clothes just hung off me and I had no shape whatsoever. Though at the time I had a fixation that clothes looked better on skinny people, which I’m ashamed to admit. This is what the illness does. It puts thoughts into which at the time you 100% believe. But they aren’t really your thoughts.I’ve never really had an issue with body image as I’ve always been on the slim side. People at work comment on how skinny I am but with the comments comes the pressure to stay that way, and the need of constant reassurance. With anorexia comparing is a common feature of the illness. I know it’s not rare for girls not to compare themselves to other girls, but anyone with anorexia knows we can take things to extreme. We want to be the best, better than average,110%. Anything less is unacceptable.

I know that since working at Miss Selfridge I often have reoccurring feelings to those I did at college and university (again where I was surrounded by girls nearly all the time). I can recall having “anorectic thoughts” from the age of 15 but it didnt become a problem when I started a levels and the pressure to fit in got to me. With the added stress of home problems and school I could feel myself getting out of control. I slowly began to focus so much on how I looked , my weight and food. I remember one textiles class I was just sitting there thinking how fat i felt and before I knew it spring came around and I found myself sitting back in that class surviving of a few grapes and raisins a day. I clearly knew I had a problem , i was so desperate for someone to come up and asked if i needed help but no , no one would. I felt so alone and lonely thinking “why was nobody helping me , they obviously didn’t care”. Now and again I feel these feelings again especially when working around a bunch of girls. Like i’ve said it feels like college all over again.

It’s not that I don’t want to work in fashion, because that’s been my dream, but I’m wondering if it’s the thing that’s getting in my way of recovery? Every time time i get really ill fashion was always in my life,whether its just coincident or not its got me thinking . 

 But it’s even the small things that have been effecting me quite a bit for a while and that’s only working in retail -I haven’t even started properly within the industry yet. When I say full recovery is what I want, I mean full recovery. Not just in terms of physical weight gain, I want to maintain a healthy weight with a normal attitude to food and body shape. I want the constant comparing to stop, the negative self talk to go away, not wanting to loose weight, and really just accepting me for who I am.

Can I have full recovery working in fashion when how you look and come across is put under a microscope? There is a pressure to make sure you always look “on point” and being surrounded by models who look like they haven’t eaten in days. It’s bad enough for the illness to be surrounded by beautiful girls at work let alone stick thin models being thrown in.I have been thinking recently that maybe a career in mental health nursing specialising in eating disorders, helping people achieve the things that anorexia has ruined for them, is the way to have a successful career and get more out of life.I’m not saying that fashion can’t be a part of my life because I’ll be forever in love with the industry, and have been since i was 13.

Now, though I know how destructive this illness is and I honestly don’t know if I can handle have a career in fashion and potentially putting my mental health and physical health at risk because it could take one small thing to set off a relapse.I can say, though that fashion didn’t cause my eating disorder but it may have contributed to it without me realising .

The true cause of me developing anorexia may never be known. Just don’t always believe what the media says about people developing anorexia because of wanting to look like models, my goal was never that.
