I just wrote the cringiest, squirmiest, tropiest love confession scene I've ever done. I legit had to get up, laugh out loud, shake out my hands, and pace back and forth before getting back to it. Aaaah if this story didn't fill me with so much maniacal joy I'd be way too embarrassed to complete it. Definitely makes me want to poke my brain with a stick and go, "you ok? What you just made is really weird."
Oh well. If my readers don't get a heavy dosage of second hand embarrassment, I didn't delve deep enough. Lmao.

Star Wars Rewatch: TROS
Oh, God.
Tumblr media
Palpatine come back and ruining Anakin Skywalker's redemption. Why? How? Cloning, okay, so this Palpatine isn't the real Palpatine?!
We get to see Supreme Leader Kylo Ren for about 4 minutes before he's immediately benched by Palpatine as co-pilot. Why? I get they didn't want Kylo Ren as the big bad, but this is just lazy writing.
Green goblin, I remember you don't last long.
R2D2, they never wash him or nothing?
Maybe the First Order should win. They take hits and keep on knocking. They take losses and recovered, quickly and well. They always seem to have intelligence from somewhere. In short, they are competent.
Poe and Finn, have a great dynamic.
Rey is finally training for everyone who had a boner for two movies about her having a rocky fight montage.
Tumblr media
They moment where Ren is praying over Darth Vader's mask and his mind bridges with Rey is a great reminder that these two are connected.
This film did something most franchise should never, it responded to criticism in real time.
Poe, you fucked up Han's ship. Stop attacking like she doesn't have a reason to be annoyed. Also, Rey is currently the sole Jedi in the galaxy, she should be training, not running off on every errand you have to do.
Colin Travano (whatever his name is) I wouldn't have wanted his script. Like at all. Poe and Rey do have chemistry though and you can tell they enjoy needling one another. It's just not endgame.
That Finnrey hug was awkward. It's a church hug with their butts sticking out. I'm Reylo to the core, but I have place for FinnRey in my heart. They're soulmates in a different way than Reylo is. Also, Daisy Ridley and John B are adorable and you can tell they enjoy working together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a flawed film, Rose Tico being sidelined was a wise decision.
Rey, Poe, Finn, Chewie and 3PO are cute. JJ Adams did seem to love friendships developing and for the third film we needed to see all these characters together on an adventure.
Kylo Ren is forging this dumb ass mask again. Look it worked initially, character wise and so forth, but at this point?! He smashed it and moved past the need for it. The audience liked that he smashed it. We have to see his face for emotional scenes. Why is it back? Oh I know! Because JJ Adams good juvenile friend was sad his mask wasn't in the film anymore. General Hux and Kylo are magically little bottle of goodness. We got so little.
Tumblr media
We leave one planet for another planet but I keep forgetting what planet we're on. Title cards too much to ask?
Ren is actually pursuing Rey or The Scavenger because yes he wants her for himself. but he also wants to protect her from Palpatine. Their first force bond......... yeah. I've read the novelization so I understand it's been a minute since they've seen one another, but if I just watched the movie would I have known that? No. There is much they saying yet it's stiff and doesn't make much sense without context.
General Pryde. Why did we need him when we have General Hux?
I think Billie D Williams filmed all his scenes sitting down. He looks happy to be there but tired as hell.
Race through the desert of Pasaana. I like it. This crew does work and it feels like a fun adventure. There are cute, whitty moments between all of them and it works.
Tumblr media
She heals a snake - Two halves of the dyad should only have been able to heal one another, but here we are.
The Trio and Co find the evil sith ship or whatever. The Knights of Ren gotta walk while Ren is flying. Ren tries to run down Rey, again this make sense in the novelization and not at all in real life. After Rey injures his planes, he crashes and the majestic prince emerges out of the flames. Seriously?! Why the hell are you covering this guy up?!
Tumblr media
In a rip off of The Last Jedi we get a tug-o-war scene between the ship Chewie is on. It's not as great, but it's a good scene and we see how Rey's powers have grown. We know it's a waste of time though. They're evenly matched. It's a nice surprise when the lighting shoots out. Okay, I don't mind her being a Palpatine. I mind the retconning. I mind Palpatine magically coming back.
Rey confesses to Finn about her dream of her and Kylo Ren on the Sith Throne. Where? We would have liked to have seen this.
This is a nice FinnRey scene. Despite her display of "dark power", her killing Chewie presumably, Finn doesn't look at her any different. She's still Rey to him. He's patient and present and she describes her challenges. We still don't acknowledge Finn is force sensitive. Why isn't he training with Rey?
We are blazing through this movie. That's part of the problem we're just pushing plot points at this point. The movie needs to be more selective about slowing down and concentrating on character development. Something painfully lacking in this film. Even the Reylo scenes are about pushing the plot forward rather than pushing the characters forward.
Tumblr media
3PO actually has a storyline this movie. Good for him. Look secondary characters in a trilogy, you get your moments and it ain't gonna be every film.
Zorri and Babu are nice additions. I like Zorri and the fact that Ren kicking her ass actually made her like her. Women supporting women. Were Zorri and Poe a thing. What's a spice runner? A space drug dealer?
Rey's social skills lack a bit. but she's great with Droids.
Wait, Chewie and Ren were both on Ren's Destroyer and they didn't even have a scene together?! Chewie's like an uncle to Ren.
Ren, show up in your boss ass destroyer to get your girl.
Standout lines -
Poe: 3PO! Move your metal ass.
3PO: How dare you we just met.
Tumblr media
Finn, Poe and Chewie cowboying through the destroyer. Nice scene, doomed for failure I'm afraid.
Second Reylo forceskype is exposition. First real Reylo scene is exposition. Hey, movies gotta get it done haha but Ren literally is like here's the plot of the movie and everything you've been confused on up until this point. I will say watching the progression of the force bond that their spaces are now physically bleeding into one another. Nice touch. It's also nice to see what they each see when looking at one another through the force bond.
Tumblr media
General Hux is the spy. Could've gone farther with this. RIP Dawg
Another FinnRey scene where you begin to understand Rey is pissed off and darker than possibly Finn thought.
Palpatine and Ren scene. I'm so annoyed Palpatine is in this movie.
We meet a ragtime band on horses surprise their former stormtroopers. All of them. From the same company. Sure Jan.
Seeing the death star again, so odd and doesn't look a thing like the original. We see scavenger Rey again.
Reylo fights again because Rey is the denial queen and she's free to take out her aggression on Ren. He likes feral Rey. In another less PG film, they've fought and then boned, but Leia died. Also, Dark Rey.... I'm here for it. Mostly cause it looks cool.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The film makers did the best they could with Carrie's Fisher passing. I thought they handled it with class and dignity while incorporating it into the film.
After Leia's passing and Rey healing it. Ren in his ever presented conflict nature overlooks the water when his father appears. It's poignant and character driven scene. It's beautiful scene about the enduring love of a parent. A flawed parent but a loving one nonetheless. Ben had two of those and he seems to finally understand that now.
Tumblr media
Poe has a good scene with Leia's body about being a leader. Something that, despite all the bravado, he finally admits he doesn't know how to do. This would've been a great scene with her alive. Part of the issue people have the sequel trilogy of the lack of respect paid for previous generations. As if they are flawed and bigoted. On screen and off screen. A scene where Finn, Poe or Rey paid respect for the accomplishments of previous generations. Their courage and their bravery. Billie D. feels like just a stand-in.
Palpatine army blows up yet another planet. yawn.
Finn is a general bestow as such by Poe. Good choice. Sanitation worker aside no one knows more about The First Order than someone who was a stormtrooper. Finn reveals Palpatine wanted Rey alive...... then why tell Ren to kill her? Because if Rey didn't go dark then Ren was the fall back or vice versa?
So far it's not a bad film, just a disappointing film. The stuff that made my blood boil is about to come.
Rey isolates herself on Acht-to, burns the ship and we see ghost Luke. Why? She saw herself on the dark throne and she's afraid of herself. This might have meant something. At one point. It just feels like a retcon at this point. She's a Palpatine but Leia and Luke didn't care? Then what the hell were you worried about Ben for? If blood and legacy means nothing.
Tumblr media
I'm not one of those people that need everything in a movie to make sense. It's also a space fantasy film, but damn.
Rey leads the Resistance to Exegol, she just doesn't know it. That was handy. No, really the way the movie sliced that together worked very well. Poe and Finn make a great speech about the resistance. Not as rousing as I'd like.
Exegol being the basis for the Sith religion is actually really cool. Wish we could've learned more. Empress Palpatine sounds like a boss ass name.
I hate everything about the ending of this film.
Rey once again goes into the enemy territory without a plan. The resistance doesn't really have one either except gumption.
Ben Solo is back! He's great. He's a hero. He's got great hair. He's likeable. We haven't seen him for 20 minutes, he doesn't say a word except "Ow" We have a beautiful Reylo moment where we Rey and Ben see each other through the Force Bond and she looks at Ben with such relief, joy and love that he's there with her. Ben fight like hell to get to her. This is it! Bendemption. We've waited three films for this. Then they tossed him off a cliff.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While it's a great scene of Rey listening to the previous Jedi's and rising up. I'm so confused how the dyad coming together empowers the devil. Ben has been made completely irrelevant.
I mean, we got a Reylo Kiss! It was epic and then it was over. We were lucky to get that considering Disney started to shy away from Reylo due to all the "controversy" I just hate this so we'll move on.

The hug was nice!

Tumblr media
You rise before the sun and get ready to leave, your chest still churning with random emotions from the events from the night before but you do your best to shove it all down. As promised, you wake your parents before you leave and say a simple goodbye; everything you needed to tell them had already been said.
The walk back to the Razor Crest is crisp in the pre-dawn air. The ramp to the back is open by the time you reach the ship so you head in, determined to act completely normal when you faced Mando. Heading straight for your cot, you drop your jacket and call out, “Mando? You here?”
“Up here,” he calls from the cockpit. It was the last place you wanted to see him but you headed up the ladder anyway.
“Morning!” you greet him cheerily, placing your bag on the seat across from yours.
“Morning,” he responds, swiveling his chair to look at you. “Looks like the conversation went well.”
“You were right, talking to them was the right move. They were incredibly supportive and told me how proud of me they are, which was exactly what I needed to hear.”
“I’m glad.”
Busying yourself with your bag, you ask, “So, did you get everything taken care of you needed to?”
Spinning the chair back, he responds, “Yeah, Tonis gave me a couple of low-level bounties that we can go after together as a trial period for you. If we can snag these guys, I’ll know you’re ready.”
“Ready for what?” you ask, curiosity pulling your gaze to the back of his chair.
“Ready to be on your own.”
The answer gives you another jolt of emotion. You try not to think about it but rather focus on the future in front of you. “Oh. Okay, sounds good. Where are we going first?”
“Pasaana. It’s pretty close so we’ll get there in later today.”
You settle into your chair, eyes fixed somewhere beyond the viewport and into the sky above you. “I’m ready.”
Mando punches in the coordinates and the Crest starts to rise. As you take off, you watch your town grow smaller and smaller. You feel this chapter of your life coming to a close and, as the atmosphere of Randon changes to the calm of space, you look away from your old life and forward toward what will be.
- - - - - - - -
“So tell me something about yourself, Mando.” A few hours after you left Randon, you find yourself thoroughly bored. And curious about your travel companion. Unfortunately, Mando didn’t seem to match your curiosity. He ignores the question, busying himself with the controls.
“Oh come on,” you nudge the back of his chair with your foot. “If we’re going to be traveling together for a while I gotta know a little more about you than ‘always wears his helmet’ and ‘sometimes gives good advice’.”
Mando sighs and stands. He shifts to the other co-pilot chair and faces you, leaning forward with his arms resting on his knees. “What do you want to know?”
“I want to know about you. I’m having a hard time figuring you out.”
“Figuring me out?” His head tilts to the side. “Why do you want to figure me out?”
“Because I want to be your friend.” It was a simple admission, something incredibly human.
He’s silent for long enough that you begin to worry you said the wrong thing. Just as you’re about to apologize and take back your statement, he begins to speak.
“I was adopted by the Mandalorians when I was a child. Both my parents had been killed and I had nowhere to go so they rescued me. I trained for a few years and, once I got my helmet, I fully became Mandalorian.”
You knew a little bit of this already, but the tone of his voice began to shift as he continues.
“I did bounty hunting for a while as a way to bring in money, for myself and for my covert on Nevarro. One day, I took a bounty for an ex-empire guy and had to go get someone for him. That’s how I found Grogu.”
“Your foundling?”
Mando nods before continuing, words tumbling from his hidden lips, “Exactly. Long story short, I brought Grogu back but it didn’t feel right… So I rescued him and spent some time running from a lot of people who were trying to take him. Including Moff Gideon.” The name doesn’t ring a bell, and he notes the look of confusion on your face.
“Moff Gideon is a warlord seeking the restoration of the Empire. Grogu was a part of that plan, but I’m not sure how.”
“Is he safe now?”
Another nod. “Yes. He’s back with his kind.”
You smile, “Good. What happened after all that?”
“Not much, I’ve tried to lay low…” His sentence trails off as he pulls at a thread on his gloves.
“You miss him,” you say, more of a statement than a question.
“I do.”
If you didn’t know any better, you’d think there was emotion in those two little words. Mando, up until now, seemed a paragon of distance and strength. Listening him talk about Grogu, though, was showing you a softer side.
“Thank you, Mando,” you reach across and squeeze his hand before sitting back. “And… I’m sorry. For the things I said before we got to Randon. I was saying things without thinking.”
“You don’t need to apologize. You were dealing with a lot.”
“Even so, it was harsh and unfair to you.”
He inclines his head in acceptance just as the proximity alert goes off, signaling the drop out of hyperdrive. As the stars settle back into place you get your first view of Pasaana. The desert planet loomed ahead of you, slightly larger than your home planet. From first glance, you were reminded of Jakku; swirls of tan and brown took most of the surface. But, as you drop into the atmosphere, large buttes of granite and sandstone become clear. Mando lands the Razor Crest in the shadow of one of those buttes and powers the ship down.
“Alright, time to give you a run down on who we’re after first. His name is Shoan Harik, a low level bail jumper. He isn’t very violent, just skipped out after posting bail for running spice. First offence. We honestly might be able to walk up to him and put him in cuffs, but we should go over what you learned over the last few weeks just to be safe.”
You nod, heading to the cargo bay. Stepping into the fresher, you change into leather leggings, supple, grippy boots, and a light, long-sleeve shirt with a tan base layer tank top underneath. Using a leather strap, you tie your hair away from your face and take a look in the mirror.
The person looking back at you is you… Almost. Even just a couple weeks of training has given you a glow; or maybe that was from whatever inner changes were happening. Your eyes are clear and determined. It was like looking through a filter, but definitely not in a bad way.
You open the fresher door and step out to see Mando at the gun cabinet, grabbing your blaster. “Is this okay for hunting bad guys?” You gesture to the outfit.
“Well it isn’t always ‘bad guys’,” he starts, turning to look at you. As soon as the visor meets your eyes, he stops talking.
“Everything okay?” You begin to feel self-conscious, reaching up to adjust your shirt. “I thought the boots would be good for any running we had to do and the shirt would be light but also keep me from getting a sunburn…”
“It’s, uh, great,” he clears his throat, shaking himself a little bit. “Smart thinking.”
“Thanks.” A little smile plays on your lips as you grab your thigh holster and begin strapping it on. Mando comes over and hands you your blaster; you slide it into it’s place and savor the comfortable weight.
Mando finishes putting all his weapons in their places and locks the cabinet back up. He walks straight out of the cargo hold down the already open ramp and into the shadowed sand. You follow and adjust your bag as the ramp closes back up.
“This is a good spot to run through your exercises before we head to the coordinates Tonis gave me.”
Nodding, you remove your bag and begin stretching. It comes naturally to you now and, after they’re done, you move into punches. Then the few kicks Mando had a chance to teach you. He stands in front of you, slightly adjusting and correcting as needed, and you work up a sweat for another 10 or so minutes before he stops you.
“Alright, now your blaster.”
Your hand finds the grip with ease and the blaster slips from its holster. Mando instructs you to aim at certain rocks and bushes and you oblige. Most of your shots hit and a feeling of pride swells in your chest.
“You’re doing well,” Mando’s praise filling your chest even more, “but you still have a lot to learn. I’ll show you more after we find Shoan.”
“Then let’s go.” Determination again comes to the forefront and you slip your bag back over your shoulders. Mando takes the lead, heading away from the Crest and into the deserts of Pasaana.
- - - - - - - -
The sun is as uncomfortable as it was on Jakku, but the wind helps keep you cool as you and Mando walk toward a canyon. It towers over you, ledges and outcroppings dot the inner walls. Your eyes scour the nooks and crannies for clues or signs of life but, so far, the only things you see are gorpions and other desert bugs scurrying along the shadows and cracks. You repress a shiver every time one tries to head your way, but they always seem to change course and duck a different direction.
Suddenly, a shot rings out and the blast kicks sand up about two feet to your left. Both you and Mando whip around, blasters pointed in the direction the shot came.
“You should go back to your ship, Mandalorian! And I won’t be joining you,” a voice echos off the canyon walls.
“Show yourself Shoan!” Mando yells back, helmet searching. You assume there’s some sort of computer in there, helping him track the voice.
“Fat chance!” Shoan responds, “There’s no way you’re taking me!”
“Keep him talking,” Mando whispers to you, “If he keeps yelling I’ll be able to find him faster.”
You nod, choosing words quickly, “Shoan, we’re not here to hurt you.”
“Yeah, right! I know what Mandalorians do!”
“And what’s that?”
“They’re hunters!” An edge of fear creeps into the target’s voice, “He’s going to tell me that he’s just here to bring me in and then an ‘accident’ will happen and I’ll be sent back home in a casket!”
“I’m not sure where you learned about Mandalorians, but he really isn’t here to hurt you,” you look at Mando, confusion on your face. He doesn’t look back on you, focused on finding where Shoan is hiding.
Shoan scoffs, the sound carrying over the wind. “Sure. Whatever you say, girl.”
“I’m serious, just come talk to us and you’ll be safe.”
“And if I don’t?”
You don’t have an answer for him. “Have you found him yet?”
“Almost, just a minute more…”
“Shoan, listen to me. You have a chance here, a chance to make things right. Come with us and accept responsibility for what happened and start over.”
“I’m starting over here, if I go with you I won’t get that chance I’ll just go back to prison.” The emotion is still thick in his voice.
“I know how scary it is to face your shortcomings and not know what the future looks like. I’m starting over, too, and I’m terrified. But you can either look at your life and keep going down a path you don’t like, or you can completely start over and build from a foundation of honesty and truth to who you want to be.” At this, Mando does look at you, and you look back at him. “Sometimes, it just takes someone believing in you for that change to begin.”
Mando nods at you and then jerks his head in what you assume to be Shoan’s direction. You nod back.
“You don’t know me. You don’t know what my life was like. I can’t go back.” Shoan says. You and Mando creep in his direction.
“You don’t have to go back to your old life, but you do have to take responsibility for what you did in that life. Once you’re done with that, you’ll have your entire new life ahead of you.”
As you slowly move forward, you catch movement out of the corner of your eye. Blindingly fast, a person comes streaking out of a small cave toward Mando.
Without thinking, you spin in his direction and grab for his arm. Using his momentum you pull his hand behind his back, spinning him to face you. His fist comes toward your face and the world slows; you bring your wrist up inside his fist and sweep it away, just like Mando did that first day of training. Your other hand balls up and your fist makes impact on his stomach, knocking the wind out of him and pushing him back. As he’s stumbling, Mando swings around and kicks the back of his knees and he falls to the ground. In the 15 seconds this interaction has taken, Shoan went from rushing Mando to handcuffed on the ground.
You’re panting next to Mando as he hauls Shoan to standing. “Nice work.”
“Thanks,” you reply, eyes on the bounty. “You okay, Shoan?”
“Why do you care?” he coughs, spitting sand out of his mouth, “You caught me. Can we go now?”
“We’re going,” Mando rumbles, tugging him along as you all head back to the Razor Crest.
It’s hard not to skip as you walk, the pride in your work capturing Shoan making you feel lighter than air. Mando stomps on, almost dragging Shoan behind him.
“We could slow down a little, Mando,” you comment, seeing the sweat drip from Shoan’s forehead. “We got him, he’s not going anywhere, let’s not kill him on the way back.”
He doesn’t say anything, but he does slow down. Shoan looks up at you curiously. “You know, you’re not what I expected out of a bounty hunter.”
“I’m not-” you start saying, but Mando interrupts you.
“Stop talking, we’re almost there.”
You give Shoan an “I don’t know” shrug and the three of you keep going in silence.
The sun is nearly set by the time you make it to the Crest. Mando uses the buttons on his cuffs (“They’re called vambraces.”) to open the ramp and towes Shoan into the ship. You turn to admire the sunset when, suddenly, a loud hissing sound hits your ears.
“Mando?” you call, running up the ramp into the darkness of the hold. Smoke fills the room and you hear a small whimper, which is suddenly cut off by another hiss.
“Mando!” your heart is racing, wishing you could see through the smoke. It begins to dissipate and your eyes adjust to a strange sight.
Mando is standing in front of some sort of machine and, behind him, a metal plate hangs from a frame. Inside the plate…
“What did you do to Shoan?” you exclaim, rushing to the machine. Before you get a chance to make it there, Mando grabs your shoulders.
“Don’t touch it,” he pulls you away and spins you around, “I froze him in carbonite, he’s a flight risk.”
“I told him he was going to be safe, Mando, did you kill him?”
“No, it’s just carbon-freezing, he’ll be fine!”
You begin to calm but look over your shoulder at Shoan. His face is terrified, frozen in the whimper you heard on your way in. “He looks so scared…”
“He’ll be okay,” Mando releases you. “I’m sorry I didn’t warn you. I should’ve known you wouldn’t know what this was.”
You know the comment shouldn’t sting- of course you wouldn’t know what “carbon-freezing” was- but it still felt like just another thing he’d have to teach you about. Another in a long list of your gaps in knowledge. You give yourself a mental shake and step away from him.
“Okay. Let’s just get him back to Tonis so he can get un-carbon-frozen.”
“We still have to find the other guy first. We’ll go back to Randon once we have both bounties.”
A heavy sigh escapes your lips as you walk past Mando to your cot. “Fine, then let’s get going.”
Mando follows behind you, closing the ramp and heading to the ladder. He stops and you feel his gaze on your back.
“Hey, look at me,” he says, voice soft but serious. You straighten up and look at him.
“Yeah?”
“You did well today,” his helmet stays fixed on you. “I didn’t even see him coming and you had him incapacitated before I even reacted.”
“Not totally, he would’ve gotten the upper hand on me.”
“Don’t minimize your accomplishments. You helped me take him down safely and quickly. You did good. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, Mando.” He gives you a small nod before ascending to the cockpit.
You don’t join him, opting instead to settle into your cot. Sitting criss-cross, you pull a book out of your bag and begin to read. Or, rather, try to read. Your eyes skim the words but you don’t really take any meaning from them as your mind starts to wander.
The day’s events play back through your mind, jumping from moment to moment. The thrill of tussling with Shoan, the sunset on Pasaana, the memory of your face in the mirror, the pause in Mando’s words when you walked out of the fresher… They wind and blur faster and faster. You don’t even notice the whir of the engines as Mando pilots the Razor Crest out of the desert and back into space.

With the infamous words, "Somehow, Palpatine returned," the end of the third Star Wars trilogy premiered on December 20, 2019. There had been plans to focus on Han in the first movie, Luke in the second, and Leia the third, but the death of Carrie Fisher changed those plans. Producers decided to inlcude her primarily through using unused footage. To help with the nastalgia for the original trilogy Billy Dee Williams returned as Lando Calrissian, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Ian McDiarmid as Emperor Palpatine, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Mike Quinn and Kipsang Rotich as Nien Nunb, Warwick Davis as Wicket, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Denis Lawson as Wedge Antilles and R2-D2. Returning from the new trilogy were Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Domhall Gleeson (General Hux), Lupita Nyong'o (Maz Kanata), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Greg Grunberg (Snap Wexley), Amanda Lawrence (Comander D'Acy), Billy Lourd (Lt Connix) and BB8. There were a lot of voice cameos by Shirley Henderson (Babu Frik), J.J. Abrams (D-0) , James Earl Jones (Darth Vader), Matthew Wood (Cai Threnalli), Andy Serkis (Snoke), Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker), Olivia D'Ablo (Luminara Unduli), Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka Tano), Jennifer Hale (Aayla Secura), Samuel L Jackson (Mace Windu), Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Alec Guinness (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Frank Oz (Yoda), Angelique Perrin (Adi Gallia), Freddie Prinze Jr (Kanan Jarrus), and Liam Neeson (Qui-Gon Jinn). John Williams who composed the scores for all three of the original trilogies made a cameo appearance. There were also cameos by Richard E Grant, Keri Russel, Dominic Monaghan, Jeff Garlin, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ed Sheeran, Kevin Smith, and Karl Urban. The action took place at Ajon Kloss, Pasaana, Kijimi, Kef Bir, and Exegol. ("Star Wars Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker" Star Wars Movie Event).

FinnPoe Tournament Round One💫
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Poll 7/8 Matchup:
Lego Star Wars - In the main screen menu of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Finn initially jumps into the arms of Rose, but immediately goes to Poe when he appears. Poe and Finn spend much of the animation sequence cuddled together with Poe’s arm wrapped around Finn’s shoulder. Later, Poe protects Finn from Captain Phasma then goes right back to their cuddled position. Lego Star Wars says FinnPoe rights!
vs.
The Rise of Skywalker - Fleeing the First Order on Pasaana in their stolen speeders, Rey, Finn, and Poe are shocked to learn that stormtroopers are now outfitted with jetpacks. Finn shouts, “They fly now?” Poe confirms, “They fly now,” continuing their streak of repeating each other.

still thinking abt poe bc I'm me off. top five most attractive poe moments
ily for bringing so much poe into my asks 🧡🧡
okayokayokay. in no particular order (and also trying to narrow this down KILLED MEEEEEE)
Tumblr media
"Who talks first?" I already knew Poe was going to take over my life before TFA even came out, but this scene immediately cemented it for me. Like sorry, what? This man is just going to whip humour out of his back pocket when he's about to be taken in as a prisoner of the First Order? Great, he's ridiculous. I love him forever, your honor.
Stealing & flying the TIE fighter — While Poe being a pilot is general is attractive 100% of the time, there's just something a little extra about seeing his competence at work in the cockpit when he's all bloody, sweaty, and rumpled.
Flying the Millennium Falcon — Han Solo was my OG favourite Star Wars man before Poe came along, so seeing Poe flying his ship made me !!! borderline feral !!!
Arriving on Pasaana — Specifically the facepalm moment when they see the festival going on. There's just something about his facial expression (and this is arguably my favourite look on him) here that I'll never get over ever.
Yelling at Holdo about the transport ships — Poe lived and breathed for the Resistance, for the fight against the First Order, the fight to save the galaxy. He put his entire heart and soul into it. To see all of that passion and anger come out in that scene was just...a lot to take in.

Gingerrose Micro Fic: Lounge (Part 10 Final)
“Lounge”
Rose's vehement denial was fooling exactly no one. But Hux allowed the subject to drop, for now. He glanced around the room. There were a handful of people still lounging about while the rest of the members were seated at the round table.
The irony was not lost on him. Here he was a SPY. And these people were his ... what exactly? Could he call them ... allies?
He saw a few detractors from the FO and gave a curt nod of acknowledgment before turning his green gaze back on his petite partner.
"Well then, since she's not your friend then I suppose that a Sith Wayfinders in Pasaana wouldn't mean anything to you. Shame. That was good intel," Hux feigned a bored tone.
"Pasaana? The desert planet? In the expansion region? Oh, I have to tel ...," then Rose caught herself slipping. Oh kriffing a. She messed up big time. She lamented too late just as she heard a loud snicker from Hux.
“You need to work on your lying skill. It's sorely lacking. Quite pitiful," Hux jeered.
"Who else knows? About Pasaana," Rose pressed.
"Just me," obviously annoyed Hux added, “you know … you should trust me a little, rebel scum. After all you did say that we're on the same team."
END of micro fic.
Thank you everyone who journeyed along with this little canonverse story.
May The Force Be With You ... Always.❤️

Needles Of Pasaana
The wave of appreciation made Obi-Wan’s breath hitch. Of course his marshal commander would do everything in his power to prevent Anakin’s untimely death. No matter the cost. Even if his only motivation was to keep Obi-Wan from experiencing such loss.
Or, the story where Obi-Wan and Cody have to push past their boundaries in order to keep Anakin alive.

Rewatching the Sequels; some notes
The sequels do a good job of showing how brutal the First Order is in a way the original trilogy never showed. These are supposed to be space not-sees and the sequels were the first to display their cruelty
Watch the Stormtrooper Paradox on YouTube, it explains my shared gripe of the idea that First Order stormtroopers are child soldiers being brushed off.
Kylo Ren is cool idgaf what anyone says. Phasma is cool. Hux is cool. Pryce is cool. The Praetorian Guard are cool. If you disregard everything else about Snoke he's cool. Btw they wasted Smoke, it would have taken one writers' meeting to come up with something better.
I didn't like how the Mandalorian just took Baby Yoda out of the plot line I thought wrapped everything up nicely but now I realise if Baby Yoda stayed with Luke then the implication is Ren killed him so nvm :)
Dave Filoni's work is really helping bridge the gap between the original and sequel trilogies
The battle of Crait although just a rehash of Empire Strikes Back is too cool to discount
The fact that Poe, Finn, and Rose's plan was the reason nearly half of the transports heading to Crait were destroyed was really interesting. If they hadn't separated they wouldn't have met DJ, and DJ wouldn't have told the First Order the plan. I wish they'd have given some guilt to the characters tho.
Holdo's sacrifice is super cool but I'm not sure about the scientifics of it all.
Being in the way of that battering ram should have given Finn some nasty burns at the very least, it was melting through metal.
Are Force projections mental or visual?? Because Ben and Rey could see each other but I don't think Luke saw Ben in the hut, which means it would have to be mental. Also C3PO saw the projection..? Palpatine had to be connecting Rey and Ben, not Snoke. If someone as powerful as Luke died by projecting himself, then there's no way Snoke would have had the power to connect two entirely different people.
Kylo Ren should have seen that the projection was fake because Luke has his lightsaber, which he snapped in half just thirty minutes ago. It could be miswritten, but I see it as Ren being so enraged that he didn't notice.
I wish they wouldn't have killed Luke, but I thought they did it right. I cried rewatching it, and I've seen the movie three times before this.
"Snoke trained you well." "I killed Snoke. I'll kill you." "You killed Snoke? Damn that's a shame, well good thing I got a jar of them right here!"
I don't mind force healing and blaster freezing, I just wish they'd tuck it into the story more neatly.
They did Rose dirty in ROS
I know Jakku already existed in legends, but Pasaana could have easily been Jakku or Tattooine.
Was the C3PO disrespect supposed to be funny? It wasn't.
Zorii should have died, her surviving literally served no purpose to the story, in fact he death would have served it better.
Domhnall Gleeson's acting is some of the best I've seen in Star Wars.
Rey Palpatine is stupid. It would have been nicer if Rey was just a nobody who became special because of her actions and determination, not bloodline.
Kylo Ren being stabbed by Rey and surviving actually makes sense because I can imagine the wound would be cauterised long enough for Rey to heal it
I think it would have been a satisfactory end if Rey and Ben Solo died
Some people are Finn x Rey, some people are Finn x Rose, we all know the truth is Finn x Poe
It's a shame Daisy Ridley's career hasn't had much luck, she's a good actor.
Rey should have said "Just Rey" in response to the old woman. She's taking agency of her own identity and not letting it be based off what other people tell her. She's not a Solo, she's not a Skywalker, she's not a Palpatine, she's her own person now.
The sequels just seem like they would have been better written by someone on AO3. They're not abysmally terrible, it's just hard to look past their shortcomings. The music, acting, and animation are the best parts.

I know I’m late to the party but I tried so hard to stay away from anything related to TROS for so long, but I’m just now hearing that Lando’s part was heavily cut down and his story was actually tied to “giving up on being a general because his daughter was stolen by the First Order while on Pasaana and Lando was actually staying there hoping she would find him again”…
… so that was clearly what they were going to do with Luke and Rey, and then they gave it to Lando and Jannah… but then they also took it from Lando and… holy shit. Wow. Wowwwwww.

Finnrey! I ship the Bffs while I Reylo. TROS
When starting this post I was very curious as to what happened between FinnRey between The Last Jedi and TROS. I had to do some research into the books that were released during that gap.
I didn't like TROS, but one aspect I did like was seeing FinnRey again and the scenes they did receive warmed my heart. Now.....
Dear John Boyega - I'm not sure what you were promised, I wasn't there for pre-production conversations and I know you were a huge fan of Star Wars - however, this was never your story. This was the Skywalker + Rey story. Reylo was planned from the outset so it wasn't that. Yes, you were the first main black cast member of a SW film, it doesn't mean you were the most important character though.
Yes, Adam Driver is tall, dark, handsome and white... his character is also the son of Han and Leia, a Prince, he's the grandson of Anakin and Padme, the villain AND Luke's nephew and former padawan. Adam Driver is also a helluva actor. From a purely story wise perspective..... he's pretty damn important. No, you didn't sidelined due to him.
I also agree with Jason Fry, he got a fully developed story in The Last Jedi. TROS let everybody down. Ben solo was screwed, Rey was partially developed then screwed, Rose (thankfully) was in two minutes, Leia (unfortunately) was limited, Poe was meh, Hux was replaced then pointlessly murdered, R2D2 was limited..... so calm down.
Tumblr media
In the year between TLJ and TROS, The novel Resistance Reborn gives us the biggest clues into their relationship during this time, despite Rey being a side character. It's very clear from Poe and Rose that they find Rey difficult to get to know. Rose comments that she find Rey someone who seems like she's both in the present and just beyond it. Poe attempts to bond with Rey through banter about flying skills, ships or being a Jedi which Rey find mostly annoying. Rey is friendly and she's a dedicated student of the Force, but it's clear she only really has a bond with Chewie, BB8, her master Leia and of course Finn. There's a conversation between Poe and Finn aboard the Falcon regarding his relationship with Rey.
Poe: "So the two of you aren't..."
Finn: "No, nothing like that. Just friends."
Rey and Kylo are both strong in the Force, they are the light and dark sides of the same coin, but FinnRey is made of the same noble cloth. While I Reylo, I'm glad Rey was able to receive such pure friendship and love from Finn. Finn is someone she can connect to especially as she grows more distant from everyone else as a mere byproduct of fate. Finn is so excited that Rey exists, the moment he meets her he has someone he loves to fight for. Over a short time that love grows bigger than his fear of what he fled.
TROS Scenes
(This booty sticking out church hug is not my FinnRey hug)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the movie, it's made clear that mainly Rey is training while Finn goes out on missions with Poe or Rose. While this frustrates Poe, Finn calmy agrees that they would use her. I disagree with this. While practically speaking, Finn and Rey's strengths and weaknesses complement each other, the best thing she could be doing is training.
When it's revealed that Palpatine has return (eyeroll) Rey decides to head to the desert of Pasaana to find the Sith Way finder to Exegol. While preparing to depart Rey finds that Finn, Poe, Chewie and BB8 are heading out with her. Good. FinnRey are a shockingly good team, a fact they discover within just a few minutes of meeting each other. Plus, John Boyega and Daisy Ridley are brimming with BFF energy that audience enjoys watching.
It's also great to see Finn evolve into a character more centered into himself so much so that he's the more moderating character that bind the trio of Poe, Rey, and himself together. Finn is the only character that has strong connections to everyone on screen.
Tumblr media
There definitely seems to be an attempt to not separate Finn from Rey or vice verse but make sure his arc is balanced while still being her confidante. They don't necessarily have many moment in Pasaana where you get a sense of their mutuality. Daisy Ridley commented on the new dynamic.
"The thing for me that was always really exciting is I never felt like there was a specified sort of love that we were portraying. So the relationship between Finn, Rey and Poe in this one, I felt amazing. It's friendship, it's family, and it's just a lovely sort of thing," she shared. "I also think that's nice in a film way to not necessarily have an overt 'This is friendship. This is love.' It's just all a beautiful collection of people."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now comes the moment when they thought they were going to perish in the sinking sands of Pasaana. Finn starts to confess something to Rey, but he only gets as far as “Rey, I never told you—” before being swallowed up by quicksand. Everyone debated what was he going to tell her. One might reasonably assume—as a significant portion of The Rise of Skywalker’s audience did—that Finn was going to tell Rey he loves her. Abrams declared that what Finn wanted to tell Rey is that he was Force-sensitive. Even after they obviously survive he still won't confide in her just yet cause Poe is this there I guess. Are you for real? Why is this played like some kind of mysterious I've waiting to tell you kind of thing? It's been obvious for two movies - now three movie - can we get this show on the road? Besides, Rey already knows he's force-sensitve.
I think more importantly - this was a missed opportunity to show Rey be there for Finn. Finn could've been developed to show how he feels about anything and Rey could've been there to emotionally support him. When they are safe underground she does ask what he was going to tell her, he's uncomfortable telling her with Poe there - still, this moment needed to have happened.
Tumblr media
Now there are some great moments of Finn just checking on Rey or being aware of her safety. When she walks out into desert it's because both she knows Kylo Ren is coming, when Finn realizes this he goes to join her.
Tumblr media
There real moment of glory is after she thinks she kills Chewie in a moment of tug-o-war with Kylo Ren. Lightning came out her fingers, shocking her and everyone else. Finn is wonderful in this scene. Showing compassion for where she was at emotionally. Not only did he seek her out alone to reassure her that what had happened wasn't her fault, but he also rallied more support with Poe. It also provided a moment for her to express feelings and emotions she had been hiding inside herself. Over the past year she had been having dark visions and voices inside her head. Finn isn't afraid of her, but he is afraid for her.
Rey : I lost control.
Finn : It wasn't your fault.
Rey : It was.
Finn : No. It was Ren. He made you do it.
Rey : Chewie's gone. That power came from me. Finn, there are things you don't know.
Finn : Then tell me.[pause]
Rey : I, uh, had a vision. Of the Sith throne. And who was on it.
Finn : Ren?
Rey : [shaking voice]  And me.
youtube
The fact that he is also a Force User and could sense what was happening with her just cemented the bond that they already have. He’s going to be able to understand things about her that others cannot. Finn was the person Rey could talk to and trust he would listen and care. He didn’t hold things against her, he had her back 100%. He cried for her. He verbally affirmed her. They spoke in a raw and honest way with each other that was beautiful. Finn absolutely has faith in Rey.
On Kijimi, there are just nice moments of togetherness. You can tell Finn is staying close to Rey as a source of support and just keeping an eye out for her. When Ren's destroyer arrives and Rey begins to go outside, Finn's right there watching her back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Rey's interaction with Kylo when Kylo reveals to her not only that they form a dyad in the force, but that she's a Palpatine this is revealed in the novel. In this moment she's tempted once more to join Kylo Ren in the gray or in the dark. Then Finn appears. In the novel, "Suddenly she felt a weight at her back and along with it.....Finn, a bright light piercing the dark......"Come on!" yelled Finn. She sprinted for the edge then launched herself toward the Falcon. Finn grabbed her arm before she could sail by and swung her onto the ramp. They sprinted into the Falcon's belly. The ramp rose closing them in."
Tumblr media
Rey tells Finn “People keep telling me they know me. I’m afraid no one does.” Her internal battle became overshadowed by this massive legacy thrust upon her. She's exhausted and isn't pure Jedi. Part of Rey's arc is she's got darkness in her and she knows it. Once again Finn is just present for her in whatever that means while she tinkers with repairs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something that isn't given any time or attention is that Finn is pure white light to Rey. Finn is Rey's greatest pull to the light. He also tells Poe that he and Leia can understand Rey’s struggle in a way Poe cannot. This isn't just Finn running after Rey. He's aware of his friends struggles and trying to stop her from leaning towards the dark side.
Poe Dameron : [after Rey heads to the Death Star wreckage alone]  What the hell was she thinking?
Finn : Poe, we gotta go after her.
Poe Dameron : We'll get the Falcon fixed, and get out there as fast as we can
Finn : No, we're gonna lose her.
Poe Dameron : Look, she left us! What do you wanna do? Swim?Finn : She's not herself. You have no idea what she's fighting.
Poe Dameron : And you do?
Finn : Yeah, I do. And so does Leia.
Poe Dameron : Well, I'm not Leia
.Finn : That's for damn sure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When she's fighting Kylo Ren Rey is out of control. She's dominated by rage and frustration. In the novel, "A presence cut through her awareness - shining and bright and a voice screaming, "Rey!" Finn was running toward her, leaving Jannah behind to watch their skimmer. Rey's instinct to protect Finn was overwhelming. With no thought at all she called on the Force and thrust out with her hand. He flew backward toward Jannah toward the edge of bridge wreck. A wave crashed down on the streach of bridge between them.
Tumblr media
Finn : The Force. The Force brought me here. It brought me to Rey. And Poe.
I really love that Finn became a General alongside Poe and I think one of their best scenes together is when they gave a speech to the members of the Resistance.
Now it is implied that this is both Rey's workstation AND Rey/Finn's bedroom. I cannot confirm and this might just be me, but there we go.
Finn: Hey, don't touch that. That's my friend's.
Droid. Sorry, she is gone?
Finn: Yeah, she's gone. I don't know where.
Droid: I miss her.
Finn: I miss her, too.
Tumblr media
I loved the moment when he sensed her death. The confirmation of his Force-sensitive instincts was so satisfying. And then his joy when he saw her alive was completely consistent with everything Finn has done with Rey since the moment they first met.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
John Boyega, Finn's actor, was once asked whom he would like to see Finn end up with between Rey and Rose and he replied, "[Finn] had this kind of banterous relationship with Han, then he has this loving relationship with Rey. Now with Rose, it feels like he has this great relationship. Personally? Rey. Yeah, Rey."

Sequel to this post, which detailed the three versions of Star Wars Episode IX that we had when Colin Trevorrow was attached to the project: Duel of the Fates, the revised version of Duel of the Fates following Carrie Fisher’s passing, and Jack Thorne’s treatment (and this isn’t even counting Trevorrow’s initial vision that involved Luke and Leia vs. Snoke, which even before Carrie Fisher died was rendered unusable by Rian Johnson killing off Luke and Snoke in Episode VIII). I gave my thoughts on those, but what about The Rise of Skywalker? What about all the versions that it went through before the one we got in December 2019?
Here’s an outline showing the process after J.J Abrams and Chris Terrio came on board:
Sep-Dec 2017 - Loose concepts of “what do you want to see in the finale to the Skywalker Saga” from Abrams, Terrio and the art department gradually coming together into a wobbly narrative based around themes of self-determination and “recycled trash” saving the day. Character arcs and outcomes were settled upon at this stage, as was the fact that somehow Palpatine returns and masterminded the events of the trilogy. Rey’s lineage, on the other hand, was not yet decided, with Abrams even considering just leaving her as a “nobody”.
By the middle of December, Abrams finally had a story to pitch Bob Iger, who approved it.
Jan-Apr 2018 - Pre-production officially began with a specific story in mind. Key details that differed from the final product included the existence of an Oracle that guided Kylo Ren to Palpatine who resides beneath the Jedi Temple in the ruins of Coruscant, a giant serpent that Rey encounters and heals during her training on Ajan Kloss, Kijimi at the start of the film as the location Poe and Finn learn about the Final Order, constructing a special piece of technology known as the “Sabotage Brick” being the central McGuffin, Pasaana being a swamp planet where an old blind ship-maker from Rey’s past resides as well as the old spice runner gang Poe belonged to which is led by a male alien, Lando running a space convoy and giving the heroes the tip-off to go to the ruins of the Second Death Star, Jannah potentially being Finn's long-lost sister, the final battle taking place on Coruscant and a huge Star Destroyer factory station nearby, and Matt Smith playing the young, restored Palpatine.
I feel like this, like the Jack Thorne treatment, would have been fine. The biggest problem, beyond Abrams still waffling on Rey’s heritage hence her grandmother who could easily be made a Kenobi, a Palpatine, or nobody in particular at a moment’s notice, is that it doesn’t feel like it connects enough with the larger saga. It’s just a take on Dark Empire with a lot of focus on the military conflict and characters’ personal baggage, but not on the ongoing battle for balance in the Force fought between the Jedi and the Sith which is the saga’s core thread.
May-Jul 2018 - The shooting script is composed during this timeframe and we get more changes. The Oracle is removed from the story but then later restored, the hidden Sith planet of Exegol is now Palpatine's lair and the special dagger and Wayfinder connected to it are the central McGuffins, characters such as Ochi of Basoon, D-O and Babu Frik have been added, Pasaana is a desert planet that both Lando and the snake Rey heals have been moved to, Kijimi is placed in the middle of the film and Poe’s old gang - now led by the human female Zorii Bliss - have been relocated there, Jannah is Lando's long-lost daughter rather than Finn’s sister, and Matt Smith is ultimately removed in favor of keeping Ian McDiarmid as Palpatine’s sole portrayer. Interestingly and frustratingly, it was only during the last stages of principal photography, around January 2019, that Abrams finally got the full go-ahead to make Rey into Palpatine’s granddaughter, a factor that he and Terrio wanted from the start.
The finalized version of this story, while certainly messy, is my preferred version of Episode IX and the one reflected in the novelization. It really does do an excellent job at tying the Sequel Trilogy together with the rest of the Skywalker Saga in a smart, emotionally resonant way.
Unfortunately....
Aug 2018-Nov 2019 - As you might have gleamed from how long it took to approve Rey’s lineage, production on the movie was troubled, particularly in the realm of editing. With three months less to edit than he had on The Force Awakens, Abrams was forced to have the movie edited as it was being filmed. The Oracle got removed again despite the whole sequence having been filmed, certain scenes were cut down even at the cost of removing info like Palpatine being a clone and Lando having a daughter that was kidnapped in her infancy, a few scenes had their order re-arranged while other scenes like several at the Resistance base and Chewie being tortured by Kylo Ren were removed altogether, a few plot/character beats were reworked in reshoots such as Rey’s interaction with the ghost of Luke Skywalker, Babu Frik was cheaply pasted into a shot in the climax just to clarify he survived Kajimi’s destruction after Steven Spielberg freaked out about it (yes, really!), and overall the film became structured as a classic thrill-ride in the mold of the Original Trilogy, where you’re not supposed to think deeply about it and just enjoy how it makes you feel.
And look, I love that thrill-ride! The finished product is still something I cherish and enjoy returning to. But I still wish we got the version that the novel reflects. An old-school thrill-ride is all well and good, but the end of a 42-year old film saga deserves more breathing room. Marvel got to have that with Avengers: Endgame that same year; why couldn’t Star Wars?
.....Hey.  Hey, Disney.  You ever think of someday doing a Special Edition re-release? ;P
