so ever since i drew that lil thing of essek painting a frank stella inspired painting (or even before), ive been thinking of what kinds of art each of the m9 would do. essek ofc is inspired by a minimalist show that i went to here, all the big names from that movement were shown, but those really dark, sinkhole-like paintings are speaking to me. another artwork of boxes made of mirrors also seems like the thing he would do too
there's a kiln here that we visited which was huge, and surrounding it were artists' studios and some other ceramic sellers, i imagine the clay family having a place like this in the middle of nowhere amongst the trees, and caleb would do his work there
anyways because at heart im a shadowgast luver its centred around them,, they meet at an artist residency or something like that and its an incredibly slow burn that involves talking and not-talking and looking and not-looking. in the end i am but a simple wong kar wai fan so. that kinda vibes would definitely influence this, i would describe it as a quiet burning i guess?? time skipy and words that are not said
i think im gonna rant a bit more about their different mediums and styles so i'll keep it under the cut
i think caleb sculpts figures and portraits, but in a sad, kathe kollwitz charcoal vibe. maybe some funky looking animals, perhaps some pots and vases to look at the pretty glazes. he's interested in using fire to burn texture into different mediums, like ive seen it being used on shellac to make a really cool net of ink looking structure.. but yknow, just seeing the aftermath of glazed ceramic from the kiln is enough, and probably better for him to keep his distance anyways
the clay family produces most of the ceramic to sell, vases, pots, plates, cups, teapots, yknow just a whole array. and its really colourful too, depicting every family members different style. i think caduceus would do some matte glazes with a lot of different colours, theyre all a little wonky but theyre better off that way anyways. he does some really mean ink calligraphy and painting though
jester definitely does,, everything, whatever her heart desires kinda thang. she makes pastel textile installations and lighthearted cute paintings, but theyre always so contemplative and soothing. she gets m9 a lot of work cus her mom has connections, etc etc. i really love the idea of jester creating works that talk about the female body and femininity (definitely not projecting no)
beau is a printmaker and photographer who's really experimental, she loves cyanotypes and printing flowers (for yasha), idk she seems like she would put fabric and rocks into the washing machine to see what would happen. u would probably catch her in someone elses studio learning about what they do or in the library learning about what old people did
veth works in a museum as a curator, getting beau to help her sometimes with gathering artworks and artists etc. she probably organises community art projects for kids and public art installations. her house is full of m9's artworks and various other artists shes worked with.
yasha does bouquets as her post-retirement part time job, prior to that no one really knows what she did ("she probably murdered a bunch of people and is now hiding from the government"). fjord draws comics for fun but is also not a job for him, molly is a question mark for me. but these guys probably wont be in it as much anyways
im still not sure what format i wanna do this in, im actually having fun just writing it in my notebook now (digital does not facilitate the creative juices) but i do want to do some visuals like fake movie stills or storyboards. maybe they will work together well???? dunno. working on the other shadowgasty thing im doing made me realise how much easier it is to draw when there's a script already there, so im writing the script for myself
im definitely not as practiced in writing as i am in drawing, but idk im just gonna have some fun and see where that takes me, meanwhile try not to feel too bad that its fanart HAHA (very bad habit)

Kagome is attractive in her own way. But I feel like much of her light which I saw in the initial episodes got dimmed out because of the love affair with Inu Yasha. Seeshomaru is so hot. But Kagome and Sesshomaru didn't have any time together. When I saw him around rin, it made him hotter in my eyes. Like he could be a good father and protector despite that cold fearsome hard exterior? who would have thunk they are gonna ruin that and turn it into something else altogether lmao

Yea honestly much of my love comes from extracting who she is independent of Inuyasha. I really wish she was given more time and space to just shine on her own but unfortunately her character is so dependent on her love affair with Inuyasha in canon. She did have her annoying moments due to how glued she was to Inuyasha in canon lol
For me that episode where Kagome and Sesshoumaru stayed stuck in my head so I basically go off their little interactions lol. It’s one of the few moments where she gets something for herself. Haha that’s interesting you mention the relationship between Sess and Rin changed it all for you and made him hotter. It was kind of the opposite for me haha 💀
I enjoyed how stubborn and almost villainous he was prior to meeting Rin. I mean I still think it’s nice and cute he was a father and protector to Rin but idk. I think it’s because the way I found out about his character was unfortunately already tainted by the weird romantic lense some of his fans see their relationship through lol. So I can’t help but wonder if he never met Rin then people wouldn’t have such strange views of his character that he would actually be attracted to a child he protected and looked after like a parent for 200 episodes and 500 chapters 💀
and honestly now looking back at it I hate that the anime added extra fillers in order to put the idea of that ship romantically into peoples heads. The manga was perfect the way it was cuz their relationship was literally parental and platonic. If I were rumiko I would be so pissed at that company Lmaoo. Bunch of weirdos in that studio who don’t truly care about her work and just had some weird agenda. Idk I felt they should’ve just left his character alone and let everyone just have their own interpretations and ideas of his character. I‘ve basically moved on from Inuyasha at this point lol but yea this is where my view of him left off.

Chetney casts Blood Curse of Binding on the Willmaster ... which doesn't take! Balls... so he produces and activates Turmoil and casts Shatter on her instead, which she SPECTACULARLY fails to resist, inflicting 30 points of Thunder Damage on her AND others behind her ... oof ...
Ashton immediately RAGES!!! Goes monochrome, so increased gravity as he turns into a MINI BLACK HOLE!!! The Shrike that hrkd its action tries to attack him ... oh, this is going to be VERY interesting ... barely TWO points of damage ... so he casts a Teleportation Pad right under him to punt him right into the animal pen! "FUCK OFF!!!" Then attacks the knewly Exalted one and lands some more serious damage.
The Willmaster is IMMEDIATELY dragged towards Ashton, meanwhile instantly takes psychic control of EVERYONE in the village. Oof ... Jagged Dart? Oh hell ... tosses it at Ashton ... DEFINITELY hits ... 22 points of Force Damage! Argh ...
Fearne cats Charm Person on the Willmaster ... who FAILS to resist! Immediately beckons her back inside the hut, and IT WORKS?!!! Or maybe not? Deception check ... which Ashley completely tanks ... balls ... but at least she thinks SHE'S an ally ...
FCG shoots his grapple at the Willmaster ... 15? It hits? Wow ... damn it, one of the locals just JUMPS IN FRONT OF HER to take it instead! Crap ... so he just ducks up half the damage himself in sympathy ... but they're still hurt! Owwwww ... alive but VERY hurt ...
Orym casts Hex on the Willmaster before attacking for NON LETHAL damage! Nice ... oh, he is BATTERING her hard ... even WITH the Meat Shield? Now Orym's taking attacks ... some of it REALLY HURTS ... then two of them just PHASE out of Ashton's sight ... hmmm ...
Laudna casts Mirror Image on herself ... she's stuck hanging in the air, so unleashes a Ray of Frost on the Willmaster ... half speed now! Nice ... plus 15 Frost damage! ALSO nice ...
The new Exalted pulls Laudna out into the open, then hits her with Blight! Oof ... 33 points of Necrotic damage! Ouch ...
2 of them fire crossbows at Laudna, first misses, second hits! 9 points of piercing damage ... she crit fails her concentration, so she loses her Mirror Image.
Chetney wolfs out snd HEADBUTTS the Willmaster ... instead renders another innocent unconscious ... no more Meat Shield means next hit GETS THROUGH, so 9 points of damage! Phew ...
Ashton charges the Willmaster, Raging Recklessly, hits her with the hammer. 24 to hit! Boom! 22 points of damage and HE GETS THE HDYWTDT!!! POW!!! The Willmaster flues 15 feet and is DOWN!!! Orym rides her doen and lands on top.
Everyone INSTANTLY snaps out of the trance ... so they see the chaos and just SCATTER.
The Shrikes just pause and take a beat to check out their opponents.
Fearne casts Scorching Ray on the fleeing foes and one of yhe Shrikes, takes out the runner, inflicts 9 damage on the Shrike. Then she bamfs out Mister.
Imogen is now entirely MIST. She is now ENTIRELY INCAPABLE of any violence ...
FCG casts Calm Emotions on EVERYBODY he can ... BOTH the Shrikes fail to shake it off. He immediately tells them both to CHILL OUT ... which they do! Crazy ... this is good for a WHOLE MINUTE!!!
Orym turns to the Exalted and flings the Hex at him. Goading Attack! First hit misses, second hits! 19 damage and HE gets the HDYWTDT so the kid is KNOCKED THE FUCK OUT!!! Now he rushes one of the Shrikes and holds an attack, ready for next round ...
The Shrikes are now trying to run off with the unconscious Willmaster ... great ... Orym gets an attack of Opportunity, trips one and puts him on the floor ... Calm Emotions is GONE and now they're focused on him for next turn.
Laudna chucks some Eldritch Blasts at the Shrikes, first misses, other 2 HIT!!! 15 and 14 points altogether, and she just MERCS the first one on the spot! Oof ... HDYWTDT indeed ... he's just pancaked ... she attacks the other one, but all three shots miss him ... nuts ...
The beasts stampede out of their pen and folk ate now getting caught and trampled! Oof ...
Chetney just throws himself in their path and saves one local, then goes for the remaining Shrike and attacks him with Turmoil while he's still prone. Wow ... he just CRITS the poor bastard ... HDYWTDT!!! He just opens the guy RIGHT UP!!! Oof ...
Just the few runners left ... Ashton gets in front of the stampede instead and grabs some of the locals, pulls them out of the path of the herd.
Fearne casts Scorching Ray on the runners, Crits one and hits the other two. 10 on the Crit, then 9 each on the others. Oh dear ... yeah, one of them just gull blown COMBUSTS on the spot ...
Imogen floats up to check out what's going on beyond their immediate battlefield. It's just chaos, but more are coming.
FCG casts Stone Shape and creates a ramp over him and the local he's protecting sk they herd doesn't trample them.
Orym uses Seedling to grapple the remaining runner and knocks him out of the spot.
Everybody scatters out of yhe path of the stampede. Meanwhile Chetney just SUPLEXES one of them down snd starts EATING IT ALIVE on the spot ... dear gods ...
Looks like that's it ... time to clean up while they have a chance. Hiding bodies as quickly as they can ...
And that's it for the night ... phew ... that was chaos, but thank fuck it turned out all right ...

Trigun is back, old fans are rejoicing, and new ones are on the making; my wee lil' weeb heart is bursting with joy...
And with that joy comes nostalgia for my prime weeb years back in the 00's, a time where I was living in Italy and spending every Friday night religiously watching anime on MTV (Trigun, Inu-Yasha, Saiyuki, Wolf's Rain, Cowboy Bebop, Deep Blue 9, Excel Saga... Those were the days).
Here are some relics from those years, because I cannot keep this shit to myself any longer.
I used to collect and then print random Trigun stuff so I could put it in my collage books. To this day, I still think that chibi sprite collection is pretty darn cute, and whoever made Knives as an embarrassed schoolgirl wins for life.
Did I self-insert myself with my favorite twins? Of course I did! I used to draw myself with an yellow cat hat... Because "having actual cat ears would be too unrealistic". Sure, kid. Because I was in a friend group with girls as equally horny and weeb as I was, we made high-school AUs where we could be with out favorite characters.
Why was Sha Gojo from Saiyuki friends with Knives? That will never be answered, since I never finished this little comic.
Also, my then best friend drew this for me one day and it still makes me smile when I see it.
Aaaaah... Embarrassing? Yes? Funny? Now that I'm older, definitely. All that i can say is that i hope people keep putting this energy out in the universe, because because enthusiastic about a piece of art will always be a great thing in my book.

A4: What is your AO3/FFN username? Has it always been that?
I honestly cannot remember my FFN username. I had one, that's all I can remember. What I can tell you is it wasn't Kimium because I had my FFN account before high school.
A8: What was your first fandom? Are you still in that fandom now?
My first fandom is a tie between Sailor Moon and Pokémon. The first fandom I read fanfiction for was a tie between Inu Yasha and Yu Yu Hakusho. I'd say I'm still in the fandom for Sailor Moon, Pokémon, and YYH, but at varying levels. Sadly, I wouldn't consider myself in the Inu Yasha fandom currently.
C3: Is there anything that makes you nope out of a story? What is it?
I have to list these by novel and fanfiction as they're separate categories.
For a novel what makes me nope out of one so fast is when there is the following:
-A female protagonist who is "not like" the other girls or is a "rebel" or is an "outcast" or is "fighting the system". Sorry, but that's so overdone and boring majority of the time because no one wants to reinvent the story tropes.
-There is a Mysterious, Hot, Male who just Happens to Come into her Life. Sadly majority of the time they play this trope straight and make him the main love interest.
-When romance movies have the main male do things that are 100% illegal/stalker-like/creepy and play them as "cute" and "romantic".
-Too much world building/power systems. Look, I love world building and power systems as much as the next person. I am a shonen anime fan. However, when books have intense glossaries or too many maps in the front before I even begin to read, I'm checking out.
-To side note off this point when there are legitimate family trees in the beginning of the story and notes about who is who in the family I also check out so fast it hurts. Not saying I haven't read stories with those before (see Clytemnestra which I read about a month ago and enjoyed) but sometimes it's too much.
Fanfiction
-NOT SEPARATING YOUR DIALOGUE INTO PARAGRAPHS WILL MAKE ME BACK OUT OF YOUR FIC SO FAST.
-Too much "telling" and not enough "showing". I don't need explanations for everything. You can describe it too.
-Not keeping to the same perspective in a clear, concise manner. I don't mind POV shifts but you cannot do that between paragraphs between characters with no indicators. That's so confusing.
-Writing in first person perspective. I'm sorry... for fanfiction it doesn't work for me.
-Self-inserts/a lot of OCs/Characterxreader: I am not knocking people who like that in their stories, but for me it's not my thing.
C7: Who is your NOTP?
I dislike Gojo/Utahime from JJK so much. It's not even because I'm a big Satosugu shipper. It's because they've barely interacted in the series proper and when they do it's clear Utahime cannot stand Gojo. When people ship them all I can think of is that horrible, horrible romance trope cliché of "She hates him... but secretly loves him" or "they start disliking one another but then FALL IN LOVE". I cannot stand those tropes.
If those two had more scenes/interactions beyond surface level stuff then perhaps I'd buy a bit more into it as an idea, but for now I refuse to even entertain it.

So recently I’ve been seeing a lot of younger millennial / gen z folks in fandom spaces who have discovered One Piece - and are shipping the characters, writing fanfic, creating beautiful works of art and SHARING them.
One Piece is my oldest fandom. In a lot of ways, it was my first fandom. I couldn’t get any of my adorably awkward anime club pals to read it no matter how much I talked it up. They didn't like the artwork, and I GET that, because it didn't look like any other manga out there at the time. OP is not pretty, and I'm not saying that as a dig to any specific art style but trust me when I say that 99% of the weeb market were going to reach for Inu Yasha over the fuckin rubber kid.
Oda's story has been a huge part of my life since 2005, when I picked up the first volume of this fucking masterpiece. I was in my early 20's and I was real lonely and real broke. Anxiety and adhd made holding down a job almost fuckin impossible because there were days when I could not get myself off the goddamn couch without bursting into tears
But the King of Pirates is the freest man in the world.
You have no idea how badly I wanted to board my ship of dreams with my own set of dear companions and set our course to the end of the world.
To the dawn.
But back in those days, there wasn't an OP fandom like there was for Death Note or Saiyuki (google it kids) so, I didn't really have any one else to gush at about it. There was no one out there on livejournal sharing adorable Sanuso content for my hungry hungry eyeballs. There weren't many artists out there on the English web creating content and sharing the BIG FEELS that this magical world gives us.
There were no longform roleplays set in Oda's universe, there were no fandom OC's or cute AU's of the Straw Hats as college students

please believe me when I tell you from the bottom of my heart that seeing all of this stuff appear over the past like 3 years is fucking incredible.
One Piece is so fucking important to me. It's even more important to me as a 37 year old woman than it was when I was an angsty 21 year old who could barely afford her own shitty one bedroom apartment
but the things you wonderful people create are like medicine for that 21 year old's wounded soul.
As I am writing this, I am literally full-on ugly crying with the tears and the snot and the drool and everything. I am sobbing because seeing some of the amazing shit that you folks are creating is not only a huge inspiration for me to eventually share my own One Piece brainworms, but my own writing and artwork
my own fucking shitposts that currently exist only as deep-cut inside jokes that my partner I have been giggling about for literally longer than some of you guys have been alive.
And it makes me so fucking happy. It makes my heart full.

Child of Kamiari Month
I know I haven’t posted in a while but I’m picky with what I watch T-T
But as the title says, this is about Child of Kamiari Month!!
So I just randomly found it while looking on Netflix for something to watch!! It’s such a cute movie and I love the animation!!
I really love the dynamic between Kanna, Shiro and Yasha!! Especially Kanna and Yasha!! I love the enemies to friends who have complete faith in one another and I really feel like this movie shows that!!
Obviously I cried during it, but it honestly is cute and touching and you can understand Kanna’s feelings and why she reacted the way she did!!! I also love how the story kinda shows that the death of her mother affected everything in her life, and severely at that too. I feel like we don’t realize how something as big as that can affect even the little things in our lives. Things we normally wouldn’t notice change in.
10/10 Love it, but every show I write about has that rating T-T
Also apparently (of the view reviews I found) people didn’t like it cause it was boring and predictable. Which I can understand, but I think it’s a sweet movie. As well, I think the message is good!!! Like, life is always giving curveballs and sucky cards, but sometimes finding even one thing to help push you forwards helps!!

Fucking finish it.” “I’m gonna catch you, for sure!” “I fell in love with you in Kamordah.” Yasha playing the harp for all the people on Rumblecusp (not travelercon, but just the small gathering of villagers). SO MANY MORE BUT THATS JUST A FEW.
Idea for a story: Bruh I have so many WIPs and unwritten fics but to name a few I would love to write eventually if my motivation ever returns from the war: pirate au, stardew valley/farm au, and I’m also working on one where Beau never joined the mighty nein so she’s at the cobalt soul in Zadash when Yasha attacks
Unpopular opinion: I think it was an unpopular opinion that Yasha was a dog person before Ashley confirmed that in game bc i saw a lot of posts about her getting a cat (I think because of her interactions with frumpkin) but I knew deep in my soul the whole time that she was a dog person
Favorite relationship: besides the obvious Beauyasha, I will say I’m still very sad we didn’t get more info on Yasha and Molly’s relationship but I loved everything she revealed about him. And I really hope he makes a small appearance in her origin comic 💛 also Fjord and Yasha was always an unexpected but hilarious pair (shopping in Nicodranas + the ring of fire resistance, and fjord + beauyasha in the happy fun ball)
Favorite headcanon: I still think Beau and Yasha would adopt Kiri. I also think that Yasha would just amass a small horde of small animals as pets. A few dogs, a few cats, some moorbounders, just whatever cute animal that allowed her to give it scritches, she would adopt!

Three ships: Oh man, I don’t think I’ve actually shipped anyone in awhile. Uh…I thought Fjord and Jester from Critical Role were very cute - mostly because their players are married IRL and it was adorable watching them flirt and also because Travis vowed to not have any in game romance but couldn‘t resist his own wife (who could resist Laura Bailey, I mean really?).
First Ever Ship: Oh shit I think it was some Nickelodeon show about kids in space? I was like 10, I did not know what shipping was (I’m not sure we had internet yet), I just wanted the human guy and the girl with the rainbow hair to get together.
Last Song: “The Hills” by the Weeknd. It’s not even a song I’d normally like but for some reason I find the chorus very soothing? Like it literally makes me feel like my muscles are relaxing and my heartbeat slows down. It’s weird, but it works! So I sometimes play it when I start feeling really tense. Before that was “Call Me By Your Name” by Lil Nas X and before THAT was a cover of “Wolf Like Me” by Lera Lynn that’s so absurdly good.
Last Film: Encanto. I had to see what all the fuss was about (the fuss was legit, it’s very good). Last movie I saw in theaters was Spider-Man No Way Home. I really liked the movie, I think it’s my favorite of the MCU Spider-Man movies, but that was right as Omicron was starting to hit and the theater was PACKED (even though we went on a Monday!) and I decided that was it for me for movie theaters for awhile :( I’d be on board for an entire movie of the three Spidermen just hanging out together, no super hero stuff, just getting some fries at a diner or something. I would be fully okay with that.
Currently watching: Oh hey, @0hcicero, I’m also totally stuck on all things Critical Role right now! Campaign 3 is just absolutely bonkers, I think half the cast decided “Last campaign was kind of dark, this time I’M going to be the comic relief!” and it’s led to some beautiful chaos. Travis Willingham doesn’t get enough credit for his improv skills, he’s so fast with one-liners and they’re always hilarious. And as much as I love Pike and Yasha, I think Fearne may be Ashley Johnson’s masterpiece. Anyway, yeah, very into Critical Role right now and the last “tv show” I watched was The Legend of Vox Machina which is literaly still Critical Role but animated (it’s so good, y’all).
Currently consuming: Just had a peanut butter sandwich because I’m an adult and I get to decide what that means and sometimes it means having a PB sammy for lunch.
Currently craving: Oh so much! A vacation, the time and energy to work on the variety of art projects I want to do (Woodburning and painting and a combination of the two are my latest things), nicer weather and the ability to meet new people without worrying they might have a deadly disease.
Also chocolate, always craving chocolate.

My first anime love: INUYASHA
Throwing it wayyyy back! Inuyasha is the first anime I watched where something in my tiny brain clicked. I figured out what anime was and that I had been watching it since I was around 5 years old. No, my parents did not monitor what I watched and had no idea I was watching shows like Rurouni Kenshin, One Piece, Cowboy Bebop, etc. But then again, my Dad let us watch Lord of the Rings and Star Wars at a very young age, so I was pretty used to violence on a fantasy level.
Inuyasha was a catalyst for my mental health, even as a middle schooler. At the time, I was trying to figure out friendships, love and family dynamics.
One thing about Inuyasha that strikes me as interesting is all the hypocritical messages the plot and characters show, as well as how fun it is to make speculations on each character's mental state. I feel each character resembles a mental health illness, whether purposeful or not. I mean, Inuyasha flip flops between doppelgangers of his true love like a kid choosing between their favorite candy at the store. It seems to me that wants to have his cake and eat it too, choosing to lead both of those poor ladies on. But, then you see the obvious affection he has for both of them on different levels of love. It is cute, if not morbid when you realize Kikyo is made of actual dirt. Like, she is a dirt zombie. Doesn't stop our boy from trying to kiss that dirty mouth though;). **EDIT: Didn’t think I would have to add this in but just to be clear: the only serious thing about these posts are the mental health FACTS. Everything else is just my silly thoughts and ramblings. If you don’t agree or like my perspective of a character or show, please scroll past and pretend you never saw this.

Let's tackle my favorite character and reason why I even know what anime is:
INU-F*CKING-YASHA
If you do not know the cranky yet sweet, aggressive yet gentle, self-serving yet relationship-driven dog demon, you do not know anime. Period. (Jk but I recommend it to all anime lovers or anime explorers).
I am focusing my Inuyasha series on types of disorders that I BELIEVE THE CHARACTERS PORTRAY OR may otherwise being struggling with. This is not a definitive list and by no means I am trying to diagnose for anything other than fun observations and to hopefully provide psychoeducation about mental health. Please do not try to compare yourself to the characters and symptoms: there is a lot of nuance that goes into diagnosing someone with mental health. So, I repeat: I discourage self-diagnoses and always encourage people to seek out professional mental health in the proper setting...not on the internet.

Hello everyone and welcome to my liveblogs for this week’s episode of Exandria Unlimited: “The Gift Among the Green.” I absolutely loved the worldbuilding that Aabria gave us in this episode, and some of the character moments--especially with Opal--were truly so emotional. I am both so ready and not ready at all for these final two episodes!

Okay so, anyone who ever so slightly knows me knows I like birds. Like, really like birds. Like I’m organizing my life plan to hopefully be able to dedicate my life to ornithology levels of liking birds. One of my hobbies is birdwatching/ bird feeding and it’s really really fun! So I decided to make a little post about some of my FOs and birdwatching.
Note: if you’re going to be rude about my hobby please leave, I’ve been bullied for liking bird watching before and I just don’t want to deal with that before school starts. Yes it’s an old person hobby, but I enjoy it :)
With Jester I feel like she’d be very enthusiastic to join me, happily sitting next to me to doodle the birds we see. After a bit I’d notice that I’m seeing fewer birds than usual and realize that she’s talking very loudly and making a lot of sudden movements and it’s scaring away all the birds. After a brief conversation about it I decide to take her to visit my less timid bird friends: I’ll introduce her to all the geese I’ve gained the trust of and tell her all their names and help her feed them out of her hand and I’ll take her to visit all my crows and seagulls. I think she’d really like seeing all my friends and would appreciate the beauty of them, she wouldn’t find my enthusiasm about them obnoxious because she’s able to match my energy.
Yasha and I have travelled separately from the nein together in the past, and she’s kind of joined me accidentally. Sometimes I accompany her to pick flowers and I’ll spot a family of sparrows and point them out to her. She’s not very talkative but she doesn’t mind sitting with me and watching them, usually taking the time to write in her notebook as they warble and play. She finds them fascinating and she appreciates cute animals much more than you’d expect from an intimidating woman like her. Sometimes she brings me feathers she finds on the ground, she understands collecting things from nature. When we’re with the nein Beau will sometimes join us just to see what we’re up to. She likes to tease me about it but she’s chill, she gets very into my hypotheticals about what birds would beat each other in a fight.
Caduceus is a member of the nein who I can see genuinely enjoying birdwatching, and he probably adopted the hobby long before we met. He enjoys my enthusiasm and although he doesn’t know much about birds on an ornithology level, he appreciates my info dumps. When my insomnia acts up and he’s up late as well, sometimes we’ll sneak off together and try to find owls. He finds them a bit annoying because of how loud they are but they’re some of my favourites and it’s fun to watch them hunt.
Fjord and Caleb are a bit indifferent to them, Caleb appreciates my bird facts and knowledge (He especially likes my information on vultures and how acidic they are) and was kind enough to buy me a bird guide from a bookstore after noticing a lot of my guides don’t cover the regions we travel to. If I ever invite him out with me he doesn’t pay much attention to them but takes the opportunity to read and study, I don’t mind. The most birdwatching I’ll get out of Fjord is pointing out the seagulls around the ship, he finds them annoying as hell but even he admits seagulls can be fucking hilarious.
Nott and Molly are a bit too chaotic to take out birdwatching, I am worried that either they will accidentally harm the birds (or well,,, intentionally in Nott’s case) or they will accidentally piss off a bird and get mauled. Although one time they wrestled a living seagull back to camp after misunderstanding me talking about how I didn’t have many seagull FEATHERS in my collection.
Percy sometimes comes down to the ocean with me, he’s well acquainted with my geese and seagull friends and even the one crow that lives down there. He mostly likes to feed them with me and laugh about their mannerisms. He’s one of the people who kind of makes me remember how fun this hobby is. It can be very boring when you’re alone or take it too seriously but it’s hard to take much of anything serious when Percy is goofing off and cracking jokes with you. Sometimes when I meet up with him he’ll tell me about the birds he’s seen around because he knows I’ll appreciate it.
What’s the point of birdwatching with Alex around? She gets enthusiastic when I ask her to turn into different types of bird and enjoys the challenge, she never wastes an opportunity to show off her shapeshifting talent. Of course if I ask her to, she’ll happily chase the ravens through the hotel’s halls, trying to get a better look at them. Sometimes they pity us and perch for a few seconds so we can get a better look. When we meet up to work on art together she teases me about the amount of birds I incorporate into my art but I know she doesn’t mean it. Sometimes we’ll even collaborate and she’ll ask me to paint ravens and other animals onto her pottery. One morning I woke up to a small statue of an owl in front of my door, she never mentioned it to me but I recognized her stamp at the bottom of the statue.
Halfborn also isn’t that into birdwatching but he’ll be sure to tell me when birds are mentioned in littérature and loves to discuss poetry with me and will show me any bird themed ones. He appreciates the symbolism behind them more than anything. Sometimes when we can’t sleep we’ll spend the night in each other’s room and tell stories of when we were alive, although he’s a bit tired of me harassing him for any stories about the seagulls in his old fishing village.
Aragorn and Legolas are both fairly into my bird obsession but most of all they like it when I explain falconry to them, they enjoy seeing my owl around the camp and find any facts about her interesting. They find nature and all its creatures simply delightful. Gimli’s a bit indifferent to it but sometimes he’ll point out any birds he sees to keep me entertained on the road (I don’t think he likes birds that much :/).

An idea suddenly popped in my head today, so here, have a completely unrequested Beauyasha Familiar AU.

Usually, people don’t have big familiars. This is probably because there are many more small or medium animals in nature than large ones. Having a familiar that is reasonably sized is a blessing in more ways than one. Attending to its needs is simple and affordable, you can have it with you everywhere, and last but not least, it makes social interactions way easier. Sure, having a bug that is likely to end up under someone’s shoe is not the best option. But having a cute little bunny rather than a intimidating massive alligator is convenient.
Yes, having an adorable small unthreatening animal as a familiar definitely makes one’s life easier.
So of course, fate would be as cruel as dooming Yasha Nydoorin with a familiar as uncommon and impractical as a wolf.
As far as Yasha remembers, life has always been a living hell for her.
As a kid, she was taller than most children, which gave them just what they needed to make fun of her. She took it, never said anything, never rebelled against her bullies, never retaliated whether verbally or physically, even when she would probably have been able to take them out with one single blow, even at a young age.
She was holding onto the hope that things would get better when she would meet her familiar. She would finally have a friend, a being able to truly understand her and give her comfort when she needed it. Her life would necessarily become easier. She was terribly wrong.
She turned thirteen and a few days later, she met her familiar. The first thing he communicated to her through their telepathic bond was his name: Alexis. And after that? Nothing else. For weeks. Yasha realized she should have been prepared for this. Quiet as she was, she couldn’t expect her familiar to be talkative.
After a couple months of learning to know each other - taming each other would probably be more accurate - Yasha reached that critical moment of life that often leaves quite a lot of memories in its wake, whether good or bad.
Hitting puberty with Alexis by her side was quite an experience. Try having a wolf telepathically linked to your thoughts and emotions when your whole body and psychology are dramatically changing. You will quickly realize that hiding the storm brewing inside of you while there is a screen above your head displaying your inner landscape 24/7 in 4K is easier. The fact that on top of her height she was granted - or rather cursed with - broad shoulders and an impressive stature when her body started transforming certainly didn’t help. If anything, it just gave her classmates new things to tease her about.
Life has always been a living hell for Yasha, so why would college be any different? But as stupid and naive as it may seem, for what might be the first time in her entire existence, she allows herself to hope things will indeed be different when one day, she sees a dark-skinned girl on campus. A dark-skinned girl with a huge lion walking by her side.
