Bright Hope, Mighty Will
The Green Lantern Corps have lost many members over its years— a risk that came with maintaining the peace as told by the Guardians. Most of the rings reassigned to a new member of its given sector but on occasion there would come those that were so attached to its wielder that they would not accept another unless they resonated with their predecessors ideals.
It’s one such ring that had been on Oa with no new lantern to wield it. Or it had been.
The Blue Lanterns were still a growing group with whom the Corps had a close alliance thanks to their symbiotic relationship; after all a Blue power ring was at its highest potential when near a Green power ring and vice versa. So why not look for users together?
The rings were set off as a pair in an attempt to create a powerful Union and birthing the most powerful duo either Corps had ever seen.
Meanwhile in Sector 2814, on the third planet from its star— Earth, a small family from the Midwest were camping out in the woods after their youngest begged to see the shooting stars where they’d be the most visible. The oldest child explained to their parents that it was a good way to channel the younger’s passion for space and science much like their own. Everything had been well until the elder duo’s sensors brought up a strange signature from deeper in the wood— Ecto-entities or ghosts as they’d called them. Before being able to drag the children with them the youngest stood his ground and refused to be taken away from his stars, the elder assured that she could take care of her younger brother and that they’d be fine alone (they were alone even when in the same house more often than not)
The sun had since set, the telescope set up, blanket had been laid with snacks for them to consume as they sat in wait with jackets to help with the night chill. The duo sat near the campfire as the younger's anticipation grew but the thought of their parent's absences did as well. They'd been left home alone before but they were only 8 and 10 years old, in the middle of the wilderness with no way to guide them back home or even find where their parent's ghost hunting led them.
"Don't worry little brother, I'm sure mom and dad will be back soon"
"Ye-yeah! Besides mom knows how to kick butt, they'll be fine"
"Look!"
The duo took their gazes to the skies as the twinkling night was accompanied by steaks of white dashing by. The older grabbed her slightly old model camera and took photos of the unsuspecting boy's awe filled gaze before he could complain. He stuck his tongue out at her before turning to his telescope, doing his best to follow the streaks in the sky until no longer visible to him. The girl just took to taking some more photos to show their parents once they'd returned. It'd go on for a while like that, the stars as their only witnesses as they joked around.
"Hey that one's green! And that one's blue!"
She lifted her head from looking at her camera's saved photos to find the twin streaks flying together, a quick click of her camera to save such a strange occasion. She wasn't an astronomy expert but she didn't think shooting stars came in those colors. Taking her gaze off of the small screen and looking back up she noted the bigger size.
"Are they getting closer?"
"Maybe they'll land near here. How cool would it be to see them up close?!"
It was as though those words triggered something as the two stars seemingly stopped flying and began their rapid descent. Straight for them.
"They're headed right for us!"
"Run!"
The duo quickly picked up their discarded flashlights and began running away from the clearing their parents had chosen. No matter how fast or further away they got the stars still trailed towards them. The numerous twists and turns never deterring the streaks of light, even as the elder held the younger's hand in an iron grip to prevent them from losing each other or as the younger turned them around and took haphazard turns in an effort to get them away.
"Everything's gonna be alright!"
She panted as they approached another clearing, no idea where their own was but still looking and seeing the stars much closer to them, the lights were blinding. She felt her body get pushed aside and the roll of cold grass on her back, hair getting tangled with small twigs and a familiar but smaller body land on top of hers.
"Look out!"
They closed their eyes and braced for impact feeling a sudden breeze and a slight shake but nothing else. Until they heard different voices echo. Looking gazes and noticing the glowing eyes the other had they sat up--- only to be met by glowing, floating ----rings?
[Sentience located]
[Daniel James Fenton of Earth, you have been chosen]
[Jasmine Dahlia Fenton of Earth, you have been chosen]
[You have the ability to Overcome great fear]
[You have the ability to instill great Hope]
[Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps]
[Welcome to the Blue Lantern Corps]
A bright flash of blue and green surrounded the duo, hands still clasped and feeling a tug on their unoccupied hands, the warmth traveling on their bodies before disappearing altogether.
"Jazz what are you wearing?"
"What am I wearing!? What are you wearing Danny? Is that your old astronaut costume?"
Jazz noted the blue ring on top of her opera gloved right hand, also clenching the handle of a blue lit lantern? She could feel her knee length puffy blue dress move with the night breeze but didn't feel cold. White boots with blue bottoms kicked a pebble to the side, hearing it hit the nearby lake. Given the full moon she took a gaze at her reflection, finding her usual teal ribbon replaced by a giant blue bow at the back of her head and her eyes glowing a brilliant blue.
Danny was busy looking at his green suit, looking much like the costume he wore in a near daily basis when he was five until he started school. His own white gloves had puffier cuffs which reminded him of the astronaut costumes he and Tucker had looked at online for Halloween the year before, green ring also on his right, shaking the green weird lamp in the process. He pulled at the black suspenders before joining Jazz at the lake. His raven locks now had a single green streak near his bangs and icy blues now a vivid green.
"Cool"
Jazz was panicking, wondering what this could mean; what was a Blue Lantern anyway? Why did it choose her? And why was Danny green?
"Whoa!" Her glowing eyes turned to Danny but couldn't find him, hearing the sudden clatter of something falling on the floor and seeing the lantern rolling on its side, had he fallen in the water?!
"Danny!"
"Up here!" her eyes widened as he little brother flew above her, laughing as he looped around in the air, "C'mon Jazz!"
"How did you do that?" her eyes never leaving the faintly green glowing boy, "Can I do that?"
[You can. Just have Hope]
Trusting the voice in her head she reassured herself that they would be fine before feeling the ground disappear from under her feet and got closer to Danny, dropping her own lantern next to Danny's. She felt her surprise turn into a smile before doing a cartwheel in the air and the giggles escape from her.
Neither took track of time as they flew above the clearing before Danny had the idea to race above the lake, streak of blue and green reflected on its surface as it rippled from their speed. It wasn't until they flew back to the clearing that they remembered--- they had no idea where they ran off to. There hadn't been a lake where they'd set up camp.
"Mo-mom and dad will find us Danny! We'll be okay" They had to be okay, they would be fine. The idea of flying above the trees to look for their clearing was tempting but she had no idea how long it would take; did these things run on batteries? Would the power run out soon? Can they even take off these outfits? It'd be weird to be stuck like this for forever. If mom and dad find them what will they think of the glowing? It reminded her a bit too much of how the ectoplasm in the basement glowed whenever she or Danny were dragged downstairs and the substance covered near all the surfaces (that's when they'd know dad was making them clean up)
Whilst Jazz marinated in her thoughts and worries Danny couldn't help but think if there was a way to ask for help, though even if they had phones he doubted they'd even have service or know how to guide help towards them.
[Activating Emergency Beacon for Sector 2814]
"Huh? Emergency beacon?"
"What was that Danny?" Jazz snapped out of her thoughts as she heard his confusion, noting the slight pulsing now coming from his ring.
"I-I think my ring asked for help?"
"...Let's hope that's a good thing "
The brother-sister duo took to sitting by the lake once more, still viewing the stars above and keeping an ear out for any sign of their parents--- they were never quiet for too long. Especially when 'ghost-hunting', not that ghosts actually existed.
They were starting to get hungry again, having not touched their assorted snacks before the whole fiasco began when a steak of green, followed by another, approached the horizon. The first stopped, the second following suit... Were they like them? It looked like two people flying now that they weren't moving so fast. They were too far to properly see but it looked like they were searching for something.
Danny's ring flared up in quick brilliant flash before going back to its blinking; it seemed that was the cue the two in the sky were looking for as they made their way towards them.
"I think that's our ride Jazzy"
The duo finally hovered above the lake shore, the surprise clear on their faces even as one had a mask on.
"Hello, I am Green Lantern John Stewart of Sector 2814" the first man with matching vivid green eyes like Danny elbowed the man next to him.
"Uhh and I'm Green Lantern Hal Jordan of Sector 2814" he said sheepishly, running his white gloved hand through brown locks of hair. "You're the ones who send the distress call, what sector are you from?"
"Sector?" the duo looked at each other confused before Jazz remembered what the rings had said. "I- I think they said 2814?"
The duo looked surprised, disbelief easily conveyed even though Mr. Jordan's mask, actually he seemed more surprised than Mr. Stewart. "I'm sorry but what planet are you from?"
"Earth? I mean its not like--- Are aliens real!?" Danny's wariness disappeared and hovered in the air as he said it, "That's so cool!"
"You two are Earth children then" Mr. Stewart's eyes gained a dark look as he said so, "How long have you had the rings?"
"Umm I'm not really sure" Danny turned to his sister for guidance only to find her rubbing her arm nervously "Maybe an hour or two?"
Mr. Jordan's look matched Mr. Stewart's, like they were mad but they didn't seem mad at them like the teachers would when they caught him and Tucker talking during class. It was like whenever mom and dad's inventions malfunction and they'd go to school with bruises. (Those days mom and dad would mention their teachers calling them, they were always busy with the portal and never answered)
"Do you know what those are?" Mr. Jordan bent down to Danny's level, pointing at the matching green ring. Danny looked at his and wiggled his fingers.
"Not really? The voice said welcome to the Green Lantern cops?"
"Close, little man" Mr. Jordan chuckled, "My friend and I are part of the Green Lantern Corps. We help protect the universe, pretty much space cops if ya ask me"
"You get to travel into space! Awesome!" Danny literally brightened as his green glow intensified. "But why isn't hers green?"
"Your friend is actually part of the Blue Lantern Corps. They're a little different from us but we work together from time to time. They like to spread hope throughout the universe"
"Hope. It said I had the power to instill great hope. But why me? And why did they choose him?" her voice wavered as she turned to Mr. Stewart with a grave lookin his eyes.
"That... That is something neither of us can answer for you" he admitted, a solemn lookin his eyes as he placed a hand on her shoulder, "But we'll do our best to help you two with this"
"Its unprecedented for either Corps to choose children" Mr.Jordan frowned before looking towards Danny again, "What are you two doing in the middle of the woods?"
"I wanted to see the stars" Danny admitted sheepishly, all of this started from his request to their parents. They wouldn't be in this mess if he just watched from home like always, heck Mr. and Mrs.Foley had offered to take Danny and Tucker camping once school let out if he wanted to (but no he couldn't wait a month, he needed them now). "So mom and dad brought us camping but then the stars--- the rings started chasing us and we got lost"
"That must of been scary huh guys?" Mr.Jordan gave a look to Mr.Stewart and the man walked away a bit, placing a finger into his ear and whispering. How weird.
"So you guys are siblings?" he turned to Jazz, she just nodded slowly, took a deep breath and looked him in the eyes. She kept rubbing the blue ring on her hand as she did. "Do you guys mind telling me your name?'
Jazz still had that worried look in her eyes, like when she knew the turkey would come back to life in any second but mom kept saying it'd be fine. (Jazz was always right, it was always the same every Christmas). His sister liked to think she was a grown up and didn't get nervous talking with strangers but she was still a kid like him. He would be brave for Jazz!
"I'm Danny and that's my big sis Jazz"
"Its nice to meet you two, or well at least know your names now?"
"Jordan"
"Hold right there"
The two adults just kept talking in whispers, looking back at them every few seconds, Jazz wasn't sure what to make of them but they were the ones who knew the most about the situation. Danny also had a pretty good sense for people and they seemed friendly but she also knew better than to trust complete strangers. Stranger danger was very much ingrained to them at a young age. Jazz knew it was rude but couldn't help but hear Mr.Jordan's outburst of "Seriously, nothing? Its been hours"
It seemed like forever before the adults came back and gave them strained smiles in turn.
"Well kids we're going to help you guys find your camp and make sure you get back to your parents" Mr.Jordan winked.
"We'll also explain more about the rings and what they mean while we wait. Sounds like a plan?" Mr. Stewart made sure to look at them in the eyes and didn't move until they both nodded in agreement.
"Okay"
The brother-sister duo didn't know what they were getting into when they went camping that day but everything was in motion, a new path diverging in time to create a brilliant new future; tragedy, love, and courage would always be on their path no matter how much he'd tried to avoid, it was inevitable. He could only witness as they embarked on this journey together and bring about the Rebirth with allies at their sides.
And he couldn't wait to meet them again, in due time.

I truly think Dan and Phil have a love that most of us will never be lucky enough to understand. They’re best friends, you can tell by how they talk to each other, their inside jokes, weird antidotes and how they laugh freely. They’re business partners, I mean seriously look at all they’ve accomplished not only together, but separately. They’re soulmates, sure, Dan doesn’t believe in soulmates but I do, and damn, they are the literal definition of the word. It doesn’t even matter if they’re lovers or not, their lives are so carefully intertwined together, they love each other so wholeheartedly. It’s absolutely beautiful.
Watching them no longer be careful on camera, no longer panic about what they do or say to the Phans is beautiful. When I think of fate, I can’t help but think of Dan and Phil. Maybe that’s a big reason why I love them so much; their love reminds me that some connections that feel completely by chance, are really meant to be. Just think of who you would be if your life hadn’t been touched by Dan and Phil. They were meant to be, in whatever form they are. They were always meant to make a great impact.

Danny infiltrates the GIW?
Some DP X DC. For anyone to use just give me credit! If you do use it feel free to play a game of shuffleboard with my idea.
Danny could not stop his parents from teaming up with the 'Ghost Investigation Ward.' He tried but frustration with their lack of progress on catching Phantom, the money the GIW was offering, and the amount of research they could do sold the deal for them. He couldn't stop it, at least not in the position he was in. So, he did the next best thing. He decided to stop it from the inside. Join his parents in the Ghost Investigation Ward.
It was a risk. He was half dead, and as Phantom, he had a huge target on his back. He also leaked ectoplasm. A very inconvenient thing to hide when living with ghost hunters but he would manage. The real issue would be trying to help other ghosts escape undetected. Vlad and Jazz tried to talk him out of it. They even brought in Dani, but Danny was committed to the idea. He almost caved when they pointed out he couldn't go out as Phantom. If he wanted to take out the GIW from the inside he couldn't be Danny Phantom, he needed to be Danny Fenton. He ended up by some means getting his normal enemies to stay in the zone and out of Amity. (Or he destroyed the portal whatever you want to come up with)
The point is Danny had committed. He spent a long time protecting humans from ghosts. Now it was time for him to protect ghosts from humans. He was going to protect his people no matter what.
When he finally started working with the GIW he was surprised. Now don't get him wrong, he didn't expect to be high a ranking scientist or anything, especially right off the bat. However, he WAS expecting to be out in the field catching ghosts. After years of going on hunts with his parents and the last year as Phantom, he was used to being on the front lines so being put on "lookout" left him salty. When he voiced that he wanted to be out there, he only got a "No children are permitted on the hunts." Apparently, the same organization that experimented on ghosts and hunted them down every chance they got, suddenly had a code of ethics.
So he got stuck to a dumb investigative team as 'an assistant' because apparently, he was 'too young' to be out catching ghosts or to be in the lab. It was the team's job to look for, track and identify ghosts. Reports of ghostly activity, people back from the dead, and strange sightings. Anywhere a possible ghost could be lurking. Then if it was determined that there was a ghost, the team would report and send out hunters.
Their current case? Jason Todd, the son of the millionaire Bruce Wayne. You know the one who was thought to be dead.
At first, Danny was confident that Jason was not a ghost. He had a body, and Danny would have known of another halfa. At least that was until he met the guy. They had to follow him around and the second Danny laid eyes on Jason it was clear as day that he was among the living dead. Not a ghost but he sure as hell had ectoplasm running through him.
He knew that he just had to warn Jason.
---
Jason knew the second someone was following him. Whoever they were, they were amateurs. Risking a glance he saw, 5 people in white hazmat suits?! In Gotham?! That spelled trouble if he ever saw it. They disappeared 10 minutes away from his apartment.
He played it off well enough and slid into his apartment. As much as he didn't want to he decided to call Bruce. Whatever was happening it was all hands on deck "B there were some really obvious people following me. White suits and everything. Would you happen to know anything about that?" Jason asked as he loaded his guns and got his gear ready.
Jason was almost 100% sure they were not with the Bat, but it never hurt to ask. Jason was still going to shoot them. With B or not. Following him in Crime Alley? Unacceptable.
"Jason what? What is going on are you okay?" The worry in his voice made Jason's skin crawl.
"I'm fine!" He didn't mean to snap at him, but it happened. It would be a cold day in hell before he apologized to Bruce of all people. "I would be more worried about them."
"Are they still there?"
"No, they stopped about 12 minutes ago."
"Come to the Manor, we can debrief there."
"Absolutely fucking not." He snarled out. He hated being there, in the cave, in the Manor.
"You are a part of the team, and it sounds like a team emergency. That's why you called. Be there in 30."
Jason was going to shoot if B kept pushing him. Looked like he was going to the Manor. No sign of weird guys in hazmat suits on the ride over. Which was weird because they followed him for over an hour, until 10 minutes before he was home.
He rode up to the huge Wayne estate, put his bike in the garage, and made his way to the cave. He hadn't even been down there for a minute before an alert popped up on the system. Someone was at the gate. Bruce and Jason looked at each other, When they turned on the camera the last thing Jason was expecting to see was a teenage boy who had all the makings of a Bruce adoptee.
"Another fucking one? Are you kidding me?"
"He isn't mine Jay!"
"Bullshit."
"I swear!"
Then the boy turned to the camera, he must have noticed it was recording, and said, "Hello? Not sure if you can hear me. I'm Danny and I need to speak to Jason Todd. It's really Important."

I woke up from a flu-induced fever dream and my first instinct was to start writing a multi-chapter dp fic. Enjoy!
Double Trouble AU: Separation Together
Chapter 1/3: The Ghost
It had been a few days, almost a week, since their accident and things were going… Well, they were going as well as anyone could hope for in this kind of odd situation. Fenton was recovering, however slowly that may be, and Phantom was… Coping. Well, trying to.
Phantom had spent hours over the few days trying to master invisibility, thanks to a rather close call with their parents while Fenton was at the hospital. They had yet to spot their son’s ghost lingering around, but he wasn’t enthusiastic to find out what would happen if they did.
Unlike his human Phantom didn’t really need to recover after their accident. Something he felt awful for every time he saw Fenton spasm in his off-white hospital bed, or traced the Lichtenberg scarring with his eyes. The most Phantom received from their little tussle with the ghost portal was occasional dull tingling and paresthesia, both of which seemed to become less and less frequent as Fenton recovered.
However, this did give him plenty of time to adjust to his new form and circumstances. It was hard to believe he was really dead, even with that not-really-a-conversation he and Fenton had before the human fell to unconsciousness. It was a strange experience, being able to communicate so clearly without words, but it was also so very comforting.
Phantom knew he was dead, but that didn’t make it easy. He had been alive only a short time ago, there had been no Fenton or Phantom, just Danny. And yes, technically he is still alive, but that’s Fenton, and Fenton is Danny but Phantom isn’t Fenton.
He tried a few times, selfishly, to overshadow Fenton. He had hoped that if he could just get back to his body maybe he could just be Danny again, maybe he didn’t have to deal with the problem, didn’t have to truly accept that he was dead. And it worked. It wasn’t really overshadowing he thinks, it wasn’t smothering another consciousness or shoving someone into a mental box. Phantom isn’t sure how he knows that’s what overshadowing is like, perhaps just another instinct that comes alongside becoming a ghost.
It wasn’t overshadowing, but he felt whole. It was comfortable. He could feel his human lungs expand and shrink with each breath, could feel his human heart beat alongside the buzz of his ghost core. He was Danny again. But he was also Fenton and Phantom.
The ghost could feel the human not-really-talk to him like this.
Worry. Inquiring. Reassurance.
It was only feeling, but just like before when their Blue and Green eyes met, the ghost knew exactly what the human was trying to say. Are you ok? Did something happen? Don’t worry, you’re safe here, I’ll keep you safe.
He couldn’t help it. Like a flood the ghost let all his worry and guilt and frustration pour out. He let the human see it all, feel everything and all his turmoil.
I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.
He had been so selfish to try to take their life from the human. He didn’t want the human to be just a body. They had agreed! He expected anger, betrayal, rejection. It would be justified, he would accept if his human wanted him gone after all.
But instead…
Comfort. Acceptance. Reassurance. Stay?
If it weren’t for their currently shared bodies state he thinks they might’ve started to cry. His human didn’t hate him, he still wanted him, wanted to be whole if that’s what the ghost needed.
No. He thinks he’d rather be together separately, but for now. For just a few minutes. He thinks he’ll stay whole with his human for now.
His human must not-really-hear him because it feels like he’s gently pulled behind a wall. It’s not oppressive, doesn’t feel like being trapped — he knows he could leave if he wanted to — but instead it feels like arms wrapping around him and just holding him. Protecting him.
Stay. Rest. Protection.
He can rest here for a while. His human will keep him safe until he can bear to be on his own again.

An Angel's Wrath: A POTO/Carrie AU (Erik as Carrie White)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jesus watches from the wall
But His face is cold as stone
If He loves me
Why do I feel so all alone?
Erik has never been a normal child. From a very young age, he remembered being forced to tolerate every kind of cruelty, since the bullying from his classmates, who always made fun of him because of his upbringing, appearence and strange behavior, and the abuse from his mother Madalaine, a fanatical religious woman who always believed her son to be a sinful creature cursed by the Devil because of his horrible birth deformity. As a punishment, she sentenced him to wear a mask to cover his scars, reminding him everyday his soul was bounded to Hell for simply being born. However, some days before the long awaited school prom, a mysterious power hold within Erik's soul started to come to surface, a peculiar and fathal gift which would allow him to settle acconts with all the ones who ever humiliated him, leading the whole city to a night they would never forget.

Hi guys!! New chapter for Haunted by the Opera Ghost is up on AO3 and FFN! Mike gets to come home from the hospital today, so I thought what better way to celebrate that good news than by posting a chapter! Watch out, it gets a little mushy. Hazard of my emotional state, I guess.
Anyway, I'll be running back and forth today trying to get everything ready, but please, drop me a line and let me know what you think!

Vlad is stuck at home, Danny learns about the Key of Memory, Jack has a nightmare, and Valerie makes up her mind. FINALLY got this chapter done. It became really easy to write after I focused intensely on a completely different story for a month lol. Maybe keeping multiple AUs active at once really is the way to go for my creative process.
Excerpt:
Valerie didn’t draw attention to the fact that Danny, Sam, and Tucker had disappeared around half an hour ago and had yet to reappear. The most obvious explanation was that there was some sort of ghost issue going on that the three were dealing with.
She wanted to help him too. But would he keep trusting her if he knew she’d figured things out? Would their past and her continued association with Vlad get in the way of their friendship going forward? It was an association of convenience at best, but things were sour enough between Vlad and Danny that it might not matter...
The two families dispersed around mid-afternoon, with the kids promising to meet up again later for fireworks watching atop the Ops Center when night fell.
Valerie passed the hours before then with exercise, a bit of reading, and catching up on chores she still had to do. The Fourth of July had never been particularly special to her unless they were going to the parade or some other big event. It felt like any other day, save for the promise of fireworks later.
She was taking a trash bag out to the can just before sunset when she noticed something odd from the corner of her eye. Valerie froze, her breath catching in her throat, and turned her head to look.
The stag creature lay in the shadows under the fence halfway between their house and the back of their yard, only partially visible in the weakening light. Its head was down and its eyes closed, its entire body slack with exhaustion.
Valerie slowly resumed her walk to the trash cans, keeping her eyes on the stag all the while. She lowered the bag in, careful to keep her movements slow and measured, then returned to where it lay.
The stag stirred as she came closer. Its golden eyes were dull, and its movement sluggish as it lifted its head and gave her an imploring look.
She wasn’t sure what to do. It was only hostile when attacked for the most part, she knew that, but animals could get panicky when they were injured. The last thing she wanted was to catch a tine if it decided to take a swing at her.
Still… The way it looked at her… Was it really ‘just’ an animal?
Valerie crept a little closer. “Can you understand me?” she asked, balanced on the balls of her feet in case he started thrashing.
The stag nodded. He was trembling now, though from fear or fever she couldn’t tell—the wound in his haunch was still oozing blood even now.
“I don’t want to hurt you,” Valerie said. She lifted a hesitant hand, but stopped short of reaching out to him. “I noticed that you aren’t trying to pick fights…” The bout with Plasmius came to mind, but that she could excuse by Vlad having somehow started a fight with the stag first. “For the most part,” she added. “Can I help you go home? You just need to get to the Ghost Zone, right?”
The stag shook his head.
Valerie blinked with surprise. “But you’re a ghost, aren’t you?”
Again the stag shook his head.
“So… What are you, then?”
The stag’s ears drooped as he gave her a look of utter misery.
“Right, I guess you can’t talk…” Valerie stepped closer and got a good look at the wound on the stag’s haunch. It looked deep, and given her sheer lack when it came to veterinary knowledge she had no idea how to treat it. “Would you like some food and water maybe? Would that help?”
The stag’s eyes widened, and he nodded.
“Okay, just lay low out here for a bit.” Valerie returned to her house at a fast walk, still wary of startling the stag if she moved too quickly. She took their largest plastic platter down from a cupboard and stood frozen in the kitchen for a few moments. What were deer supposed to eat? Plants, obviously, but other than that she had no idea given that her interaction with normal deer was very limited, having lived in the city her whole life. Lettuce would probably be a safe bet at the very least.
There was a tub of assorted greens in the veggie drawer. Given how bad she and her dad were at eating them before they spoiled they wouldn’t be sorely missed. Valerie put the tub on the platter, then added a few carrots and a cucumber for good measure.
It didn’t seem like enough, given the size of the stag. Valerie added some zucchinis and a few apples as well.
Next Valerie found a suitably large bowl and filled a few bottles with water to pour into it. She paused at the back door. The stag was dirty and haggard, going gray with dust when she’d gotten close enough to notice. He would be more comfortable if she could clean him up a bit…
Valerie left the food and water by the door and dashed up the stairs to get one of her old hair brushes; she wouldn’t feel guilty if this task finally did it in, given that she’d only kept it as a spare after getting a new one.
On her way back down she grabbed a few big garage towels as well, and with all she could think of gathered together she went back outside into the fading afternoon.
The stag lay exactly where she’d left him, again lifting his head as she drew near. His ears perked up at seeing the food.
Valerie set the water and food out for him, upending the tub of salad greens onto the platter with the other food she’d chosen, then left the stag to eat and knelt down by his neck. She gently ran the brush across the stag’s mane, ducking when he lifted his head to regard her again.
She could feel the gratitude in his eyes, the misery of his situation making her heart ache. The stag gently nuzzled her cheek in thanks—as wary of startling her as she was of doing the same—and returned his attention to the food.
A calm silence fell over them, filled with the rasp of the brush, the sigh of the breeze, the rumble of the occasional passing car, and the crunch of the stag munching away on his meal.
Valerie let her mind wander, and it promptly found thoughts of Danny yet again. She had to tell him, had to make sure he knew that she was on his side. They would be able to coordinate against any of Vlad’s schemes much more easily that way, and ghost hunting in general would be safer for both of them if they teamed up. Things had gotten better lately, and they could get even better if she summoned up the courage. But something told her that Sam and Tucker still wouldn’t like it—
An early firework went off a ways down the street, startling both of them. She and the stag shared a slow glance, then she relaxed.
“That was just a firework,” Valerie said, giving the stag a reassuring pat on the forehead. “There’s gonna be a lot more where that came from, so be ready.”

Dan had been adrift for three years going from one “place of employment” to another, only his life was seen as worthless and he was more property than an employee. He had never imagined he’s end up as the property of Prince Philip.
The Prince had no intention of ever taking on a personal servant, which was a fancy name to disguise the fact a law essentially enslaved people. Phil often had to do things he didn’t want to or risk being removed from the succession to the crown. If that happened, who knew who his tyrant of an uncle would pick as a successor? Summary: The Fenton Ghost Portal in the basement lab is empty, broken. Instead, the portal is inside Danny–and now he has to contend with what’s come out of it.
Chapter 14
Danny didn’t know what Kitty was going to do, but he also knew he didn’t want to stick around to find out.
So, like a normal person, he bolted.
A quick glance over his shoulder mercifully told him that the attack—it had to be an attack; it looked like a giant lipstick print passing through where he’d been—wasn’t swerving to follow him, but—
Something rippled, something Danny couldn’t see, and he tripped.

CHAPTER 1: Somebody to Love
June 2005
Phil threw himself onto his bed and looked around at his neon green walls and carpet thinking how little time he had left in his childhood bedroom. He had one last summer in his hometown before uprooting his entire life and moving to York for uni. It was weird, in a way, to be in this sort of limbo where his basic education was over; he no longer felt like a child but didn’t feel like an adult either. It could be because he didn’t feel like he was fully himself, not to anyone he knew - not even his friends.
Could he really call them his friends if they didn’t know who he truly was, if he couldn’t share his attraction to boys like the others shared their crushes on girls and their flings? Maybe it wasn’t fair to think of them as near strangers, it was not their fault that he didn’t feel ready to talk about it. They had all been there for him his entire childhood and he still wasn’t ready. That was on him.
On the other hand, York presented him with a new opportunity, a chance to live his true life and finally get a boyfriend. That’s all he wanted, just - someone to cuddle with. Ok, also other stuff, but he wanted a proper boyfriend. It didn’t hurt to start looking now though.
Phil sat up and reached for his laptop, lifting the screen and connecting to the internet. He clicked on the Explorer icon and waited for everything to load for a few minutes. He logged into a random Yahoo chat room as per usual and greeted the 60 strangers chatting and sending emojis in the hopes of catching someone’s attention.
Snowdude: Hi. Anyone around 18? ;)
A private window popped up immediately.
DanTheMan: hi snowdude XD i’m dan
Snowdude: Hi. als?
DanTheMan: 16/m/reading. u?
Phil hesitated for a moment. It wasn’t often that dudes messaged him. Still, “Dan” was too young and still in school. Well, he didn’t have anything better to do than speak to him.
Snowdude: 18 m York. Are you in school?
DanTheMan: yeah just the A lvls to go. What’s ur favourrtie game?
Phil’s eyebrows shot up at the typo and he snorted.
Snowdude: Final Fantasy 7 is ace.
DanTheMan: ace XD favourite show?
Snowdude: Buffy obviously. What is this, an interview? What’s your favourite subject in school?
DanTheMan: ouch, geography and psych and theatre.
Snowdude: hate geo, you act?
DanTheMan: don’t laugh. i always have but i’m cool.
Snowdude: nothing wrong with it. I’m a terrible actor.
Looking at his ceiling, Phil felt bad for making Dan feel insecure by bringing up school, pointedly marking their age difference. He knew what it was like to be looked down upon by the older kids. He quickly typed another message.
Snowdude: I signed up to art because I thought it would be easy and almost failed. Seems like i suck at art.
DanTheMan: ROFL. ur weird.
DanTheMan: let’s be friends.
Snowdude: Lesbifriends
DanTheMan: forget it lol. I regret asking.
Snowdude: noooooooooooo
DanTheMan: i have to go my mums calling. add me on msn i’m [email protected]
Snowdude: Rawr xD. ACe. Good luck with homework
DanTheMan: fuckoff with your capitalistion and good grammra ttyl
And just like that, Dan exited their chat. Phil smiled and logged into MSN, hesitating only for a second before adding his new friend.
Ian opened their conversation with a buzz as per usual and invited him over to play games with the girls. He hesitated, but another notification popped up and it brought a smile to his face.
GoThic chiK (Anja): coming or not phL?
Phil rolled his eyes, at least Anja would be there and even if he didn’t like girls like that, Anja was always cool. She was like a girl, but also not. Well, she was a girl of course, but she felt like a guy, but not - like him. He didn’t fit in as the kind of man his dad wanted to see in his son and Anja didn’t impress her mother either. Maybe they were losers but they still had each other.
Phil Strikr: omw Annie tell Ian
GoTik chiK (Anja): told you to stop butcherin ma name.
Phil laughed and sent her a buzz before logging out and getting into his favourite blue jeans and a green T-shirt.
--
The night went by in a breeze, with loads of pizza, drinking and a few rounds of TEG that ended in disaster. He mostly enjoyed it until the topic of dating came up yet again. All the guys had some sort of girlfriend or arrangement and Phil had barely anything to show for. For the umpteenth time, Phil considered coming out to them but he could never bring himself to do it. Maybe one of these days when he was drunk enough.
“Phil, Phil!” Someone said.
Anja snapped her fingers in front of his eyes, startling him and causing him to drop the dice he had been shaking for who knows how long. “Mate, what is it with you today?”
“Uh, nothing. I was just thinking about Buffy,” he said.
Anja gave him a look that let him know she was not buying it, but the rest rolled their eyes and continued with their conversation. For a moment Phil thought he was off the hook but Ian looked at him expectantly.
“What?” Phil asked.
Ian sighed heavily. “Sandra asked about you again, mate. When are you going to ask her out?”
Phil tried not to look like a deer caught in the headlights. “I think it would be weird to date your cousin, we are like brothers at this point.”
Ian snorted and shook his head. “We are like brothers but not actually. It’s not like incest or anything.”
“Ew, don’t say that,” Phil said, paling at the thought of Sandra and her wandering hands. He was not going to repeat the mistake of asking her out. One sloppy kiss was more than enough.
Richard, Noah and Keith laughed at the face he pulled but Ian merely smiled at him.
“Oi! Phil is mine, let him be,” Anja said, shuffling closer to him and resting her hand on his thigh.
Phil’s eyes widened but she gave him a small wink before looking back at their friends.
“What? Are you his girlfriend now?” asked Richard with a frown.
“Yeah,” she said, looking uncomfortable at the question. Anja didn’t like Richard like that, she loved him as a friend, but he had a huge crush on her and he was terrible at hiding it. Phil didn’t need to read her mind to know she didn’t want to break his heart or risk their friendship but it was bound to happen eventually.
Wrapping his arm around Anja’s waist loosely, he set his head on her shoulder. “Tell Sandra I’m taken,” Phil said and Anja relaxed against him, letting her head gently rest on his.
Richard looked disappointed but didn’t press the issue any further.
Eventually, the board games stopped being fun and the alcohol ran out so they declared the party over. As soon as Phil said goodbye and stood from his spot Anja followed him, making the others laugh and howl at them, half whispering about what they were going to do in Phil’s bedroom.
Once they were out, Phil turned to look at her. “Do you want me to walk you home?” He asked, hopefully.
“Nah, I was expecting to crash in your bed.” She began the walk back home and Phil followed her.
“What?” Phil squeaked.
Anja laughed and turned towards him, but her eyes looked a bit misty. “Don’t be daft, it’s not that.” She poked him gently, looking into his eyes. “I just feel sad and I don’t wanna be alone right now. I know I can trust you like that.”
“Alright,” Phil said, still walking at her side. “Do you want to talk about it? What happened?”
Anja looked away from him, her eyes focusing on the moon for a moment as she spoke. “I was dating someone but they are not sure about it anymore and it sucks.”
Phil stopped walking and pulled her into a hug. “An- you know you can tell me anything, come stay with me too.”
“I know.” She returned the hug tightly only for a moment before stepping back. “Come on!” She said, grabbing his hand and pulling him along. “Kath will be fuming if we are not there before midnight.”
He snorted and laced their fingers together. “I’ll tell my mum you call her Kath behind her back one day, you know?”
“Meh,” Anja shrugged. “She loves me. I’ll live.”
They stayed silent for most of the 20 minute walk home and had to sneak in, but soon enough they were in his room. Phil gave Anja a big T-shirt and a pair of joggers and slipped into his own pyjamas while she changed in the bathroom.
Five minutes later they were looking up at the ceiling as they lay under the covers in the small bed.
“Hey, Phil?”
“Yeah?”
“Do you think Richard will get over his crush eventually?”
Phil turned on his side to look at her. “Probably, he has gotten over the others.”
She nodded. “Are you seeing anyone that you haven’t told us about?” she asked in a drastic change of topic.
Phil sputtered. “As if anyone would be interested.”
“You have pretty eyes and perfect eyebrows. I wish I had your eyebrows,” Anja said. “You should dye your hair black though, it would make your eyes pop.”
“I don’t know… Would you do it for me?”
“Of course, ginge,” She laughed.
“I’m not a ginger!” Phil whined.
“Course not.” She poked at his stomach. “Good night.”
“Good night, An,” he said and shut his eyes, letting sleep claim him.
---
It was a weird summer. Anja remained sad for the majority of it but refused to talk about her boyfriend, choosing to focus on giving Phil an extreme makeover instead. She dyed his hair black, took him to the mall to pick up black skinny jeans and to the stylist that had given her her emo haircut to tame his mane.
By the end of it, Phil had perfected a nice image for his MySpace page. He had even ventured into eyeliner for some pictures when he’d gotten bored waiting for Anja to get ready for a party. He’d enjoyed the results and even Ian and the guys said it looked cool on him. Even Dan thought he looked really cool when he saw the pics.
He got to talk to Dan quite a few times as well before going off to uni and caught up with life. It was amazing to learn that they were actually super compatible, liking many of the same games, music and shows. The best part was that Dan said there was a chance he would go to York like him so they could hang out and Phil liked the sound of that, even if Dan was still a full year away from it. Dan was honestly super cool and Phil really had come to consider him a friend in the last few months so it would be super fun to have someone close to hang out and play games with. It sounded like a great plan.
Daydreaming about their potential meet-up was a nice distraction from Dan’s home life, which seemed to be in constant turmoil as Phil came to find over time. There was a reason Dan barely mentioned his younger brother and he had vaguely complained about his father’s rage issues, so Phil always let Dan talk first, and let whatever was troubling him be aired so that he could offer his support or advice if it was needed. Phil also shared some of his issues and insecurities, but his problems were not nearly as bad as Dan’s so he tried to keep things on the positive side and help Dan out.
But Phil wasn’t expecting to catch Dan in a lie only weeks later. As it turned out, Dan had never been 16, he was a 14 year old kid. It was a silly lie, but it still hurt Phil, so he asked Dan to never lie to him again. Dan was very apologetic and begged him not to break their friendship, which Phil had briefly considered, but decided against, especially because of the kind of bullying Dan suffered at school on the regular. After the initial shock had worn off, Phil reassured him that they could be friends, even if they would have to be long distance.
Dan deserved to have supportive friends. He needed someone to be there for him and Phil knew he could be that someone. At an appropriate distance, of course.
It was a bit of a rough patch between them, but after they had resolved the issue, life went on as usual. Phil dived head first into his uni life and there were so many changes. He moved into the dorm and met new people at uni, but sadly, he wasn’t able to stay in touch with his friends back home as much as he’d have liked due to his schedule. In a way, he had inadvertently severed most contact with his life back home, but no matter how much things changed, some stayed the same: his lack of a love life and being trapped in the closet.
He decided that it was time to take his life by the horns and that marked the beginning of a new chapter for him, an exploring phase of sorts. After some consideration, he opened a profile on a dating website, hoping to find a nice guy he could date. His new look did seem to help a lot, but his popularity applied mostly to MySpace. The dating scene seemed a bit dry, or maybe he was just too awkward. There weren't a bunch of messages flooding his inbox by any means.
To be honest, he was starting to get really discouraged, thinking he would never meet someone, but his luck finally changed on a mighty weekend when in a hidden corner of a pub, he got his first taste of freedom. He was blonde and tall and three years older than Phil and his lips were on Phil’s, quickly taking him to heaven, making his blood rush south and his stomach tingle. His hands were inside Phil’s T-shirt and struggling with his jeans’ zipper in less than five minutes. It wasn’t too rough or something that Phil didn’t want, but the speed of it all scared him a bit. It was too much too soon and he wasn’t ready even though he wanted to be, so he took a step back and apologised.
“I’m sorry,” he said, still trying to catch his breath. “Listen, I’m not out yet, not even to my friends back home, my new uni friends or my roommates.”
The guy nodded and smiled at him. “That’s alright,” he said. “Could I get your phone number? Maybe we can meet up some other time.”
Phil nodded and saved it in the other’s phone, but he was not going to trick himself into thinking he was going to get a text. His chances were slim.
They parted ways with a quick kiss, which surprised Phil. He let out a deep sigh as he watched the blonde disappear into the crowd and surveyed the pub in search of his friends.
Towering over most people did come in handy and allowed him to locate his roommates in under a minute. Phil tried to put on a brave smile as he made his way to them and accepted a beer, taking a zip and groaning at the bitter taste. It was performative and he knew it, but he didn’t know what else to do, so he followed along with what everyone was doing. He got drunk - and even made out with a girl briefly just out of boredom.
He felt nothing, nothing at all, but his roommates cheered him on and the girl seemed happy enough.
That made one of them.
--
Once back in his room, Phil put his phone to charge and turned it on. There were a few missed calls and texts from Dan, asking if he was free to talk. Phil got a bad feeling about it and tried to call him but Dan didn’t pick up. Maybe it was too late and he had fallen asleep. Biting the inside of his cheek, Phil hesitated before sending a text.
“I’m sorry I missed your calls, I was out until just now and my phone had died X.x . I’m free to talk in the morning!”
Phil lay in bed for what seemed like forever, the room spinning a bit around him, as he thought about the blonde guy, the boring night, the girl he kissed - and Dan. He wished he would have stayed home and talked to Dan, maybe played some games, or talked about school. It was sad that he got along better with a 14 year old than his own friends. What did that say about him? He fell into a fitful night of sleep just as the sun rose above the clouds.
The talk with Dan didn’t come the next day, or the following one. In fact, Dan stopped replying entirely for over a week and Phil’s stomach was twisted into knots. Over twenty messages unanswered could only mean bad news, right?
The following weekend, Phil sent yet another text: “Please, Dan. Just let me know that you are ok.”
Ten minutes later, his phone finally vibrated. “im ok. stop.”
Phil’s eyes welled up with tears. “I’m so sorry, Dan. I’ve been worried about you. I went out and had so many calls and missed texts, I thought something had happened and you needed to talk. It’s ok if you don’t want to, I just didn’t want you to think that I didn’t care. Sorry I missed your call.”
His screen lit up with a call immediately and Dan’s raspy voice greeted him on the other side. “Hey, sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.”
“It’s ok,” Phil said, trying to calm himself down, rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand. He swallowed thick and attempted a small smile, even if Dan could not see it. “What did you want to talk about?”
Dan was silent for a moment, but then he let out a tired sigh. “Nothing much, it’s fine.”
“You can tell me, you know you can,” Phil said with a frown.
“Last weekend I went to the mall and I had some problems with the usual shitheads…” he trailed off.
“Did they throw rocks at you again?”
“Yeah, but I didn’t care. And on Monday -” Dan paused.
“What happened on Monday?” Phil asked, frowning at the pain he could hear in Dan’s voice.
“One of the idiots grabbed me by the neck and slapped me for like 5 minutes,” Dan mumbled. “And I know what you’re going to say, one of the teachers saw and did nothing. He even laughed.”
“Dan,” Phil said, his heart breaking for his friend. “I’m so sorry, you don’t deserve any of that. I wish I could be there to help you.”
“It’s fine,” Dan said in a monotone voice. “I didn’t react, I didn’t want to give them that satisfaction.”
“It takes a lot of courage not to fight back. You were very brave.”
“I wouldn’t say that,” Dan muttered. “Almost gave them another satisfaction.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m so tired sometimes, you know? Just so tired.” Then, Dan cleared his throat. “Anyway, I’ve been staying with my grandma since Tuesday, so I’m ok.”
Phil had to clear his throat too, trying not to get choked up by what Dan was implying. “You have to get good grades so you can get into uni and we can hang out, ok?”
Dan snorted. “As if you would hang out with me. You’re cool and I’m just a 14 year old loser.”
“You’re not a loser. You’re kind, and funny, and one of the coolest people I know. I know that one day you will be a great guy. Maybe you’ll be a famous actor, like you’ve always wanted.”
“Yeah… maybe,” Dan said. “Wanna play Mario Kart later? I have homework.”
Phil looked at the time, it was already late, but a few races wouldn’t hurt. “Sure. Text me when you’re done.”
“Thanks, Phil,” Dan said and Phil could picture a little smile on his face.
“No problem. See you later.”
“Yeah. Hey, can I follow your MySpace?” Dan asked.
“You can follow me anywhere,” Phil said. “We are friends.”
“Yeah, ok,” Dan snorted. “See you later, Philly.”
Phil rolled his eyes and hung up the phone.
Letting out a deep sigh, he decided to do the “adult thing” and study a little more for the exam he had the following morning so that he could join Dan online later. It was not a lot, but he felt better now that Dan knew Phil was on his side and he cared.
That night, Phil stayed on his DS until 4, but he managed to get a passing grade on the exam anyway. He rewarded himself with a 10 hour nap afterwards.
--
All through his first term at uni, Phil tried his best to keep in touch with Dan, but with his tight study schedule, the weekends pretending to be straight and attempting to not stress himself half to death with his new chaotic life, it was getting increasingly difficult.
Before long, Phil had to make a drastic choice. Something needed to change and he knew exactly what was the worst stressor for him: his straight-sex-maniac persona. And so it was decided.
He invited his four roommates to their very limited common space and paced in the square foot of floor he had available to himself waving his hands around without uttering a word until one of the guys asked if he was ok.
No, Phil was not ok at all, he was nearly crawling up the wall, so instead of giving a carefully planned and rehearsed speech, he stopped short of the wall, turned around and said: “I lied… I am not super experienced, I don’t have a lot of sex experience. In fact, I have zero experience, because… because I’m gay. I’m sorry that I lied, I just wanted you guys to like me, you are all so cool. I wanted to be your friend. I didn’t mean for it to get so out of hand. I-”
Peter got up from the armrest of the sofa, causing Phil to take a step back just in case, and gave him a hard pat on the shoulder. “It’s ok. We are all figuring things out,” he said. “Also, Sarah will be happy to know that you are not disgusted by her presence, you’re just thick as all fuck and gay. Right, Sarah?”
“You like me?” Phil squeaked, turning towards the popular blonde girl. She was super nice and also pretty, but she was still not a guy, so there was not even a chance.
“I do. I did, but it’s ok. We can be friends,” she said with a smile.
“We can?” Phil croaked.
Sarah nodded. “You’re a good guy, Phil. Why wouldn’t I want to be your friend? And the fact that you are not opposed to a little makeup also plays in your favour.”
Peter clapped once and rushed to the fridge. He got the Malibu out of the freezer, messily pouring the alcohol into various glasses and mugs and other liquid-holding implements before turning around to face the group and raising his glass. “To Phil, the gayest emo York has ever seen - and a good friend too!” He downed his drink without waiting for anyone else.
Sarah walked over to the kitchenette and grabbed a shot glass, raising it towards Phil with an encouraging smile. “Cheers,” she said and downed her drink. She then passed a repurposed laundry detergent cap full of Malibu to Phil.
“Thank you,” he said, hoping that his eyes could convey the gratitude he felt. “Cheers,” he said and drank the entire thing.
Jimmy and Callan, who had been quiet until now, stood from the sofa and grabbed a mug each, raising them to Phil.
“To Phil, the gay emo,” said Callan with a smirk.
“We can still be friends even if you’re gay and your willy is bigger than all of ours,” Jimmy said with a nod and necked his drink.
Phil laughed. “Stop talking about my dick, Jimmy. You saw nothing!”
“I will when it stops looking back at me every time you sit,” Jimmy cackled.
Phil threw the laundry detergent cap at his head, hitting the target and causing the group to laugh.  Hours later, he crawled into his tiny bed and felt the effects of all the alcohol he had consumed rock him gently, like the waves in the sea. He let out a sigh of relief, a smile appearing on his lips as he remembered how the night had started. His coming out had been awkward but still a success. Now he could truly be himself, at least in York, and he couldn’t wait until he was able to live his life fully everywhere.

What’s your favorite bit of Phan lore!
Oooooh that’s a hard one! Phil pulling the “knight of wands” card before meeting Dan is definitely my number one! It’s just so beautiful.

New Double Trouble fic! Woo!
Summary:
In which Fenton and Phantom have an important talk about the future.
“Yes, we were. And now we are us again.” Phantom replies simply, letting his gaze move more pointedly to the toy in his hands.
He shouldn’t avoid something like this. It’s important, for both of them. But he knows what the next question will be.
And that’s exactly why he’s avoiding it.

Ghost King AU
Dannymay 12,022 Anthropocine Era, ao3
Danny took a deep breath in, counting with his fingers, and then let it out at a counted pace as well.  Jazz told him that might help him out when he was getting too stressed out.  He had transformed back to human to make sure it worked, as he was certain that the breath controlled a living body a lot better than an ectoplasmic construct.  The tundra surrounding them didn’t bother him nearly as much as it did Tucker, Sam, and Jazz who were all dressed appropriately to weather the elements.
When his pulse had calmed down, Danny clasped his hands together and returned to Phantom form, opening his eyes to stare up into Frostbite’s, who was waiting patiently like the amazing person he was.  Danny floated until he was eye level with the chief and sighed.  “Frostbite, what do you mean ‘you’re the king now’?  I don’t exactly remember getting crowned or being related to Pariah Dark in any way shape or form.  Did he even have a kid?”
“A coronation ceremony could be conducted, yes, but not until after all approved trials have been conducted Great One.”  Frostbite patted him on the shoulder and back, as though this was the part of things that Danny was displeased by.  “In truth, the Infinite Realms hasn’t any particular history of a high ruler controlling everything before Pariah – he declared himself king and conquered his way through the Infinite Realms.”  Frostbite scowled, which would have looked much scarier a few months ago.
“So why keep having a king if you’ve been doing just fine with anarchy so long?”  Sam raised a brow, incredibly grateful for the heating system somehow added into the coats.
“Why Danny of all people?”  Danny shot Tucker a half hearted glare and Tuck raised his hands in surrender.  “You’ve got a lot on your plate already, man.”
“Danny is just a child, regardless of how much responsibility he’s been able to juggle somewhat successfully,” Jazz said.  “Surely there are other candidates?  Adult ones?”
Frostbite shook his head.  “Vlad Plasmius currently holds the Crown of Fire in his possession, and unfortunately we had to come up with a rule to disqualify him from ruling over us on the spot, one that put you in charge in his place.”  With a sigh, Frostbite started walking and everyone followed him with varying levels of reluctance.  He led them into a room that lit up with blue-white light before manifesting a projection of the crown of fire.  “Unfortunately, when Pariah lead his campaign of conquest across the Infinite Realms, he ensured that all were forced to bow to him even after he left their realm for the next.”
The fire on the crown was waved away by Frostbite to reveal a mosaic of crystals in the shape of a crown, and Danny felt his heart sink into his gut.  “No.”
“Nearly if not all Realms have a Core or Heart or some sort of nucleus around which the entirety of the Realm is based.  If one were to take control of the heart of the realm, they would have control over everything and everyone inside of it, and when Pariah completed a conquest he did so by shaving off a sliver of the Realm’s core and adding it to his crown.  Magic is greatly a deal of belief and conviction, and Pariah Dark was determined to become ruler of all, the crown a symbol of his authority over the Infinite Realm itself and all Realms within it, so even with Pariah locked away…”
“The Crown still symbolizes rulership, and with so many Realm Cores shoved together into one thing it’s become integral to all of them,” Jazz whispered, horror filling the room almost tangibly.
“So if we tried destroying the crown, what?  It’d destabilize the realms that are tied to it?”
“Precisely, Tucker, though I fear it may be more catastrophic than that.”
“Skulker talked about Pariah Dark and his artifacts like legendary facts of life.  If enough ghosts in the Zone believe that the Crown of Fire is the heart of the Zone itself…”
“Sadly, yes.  So, we must ensure it falls to someone we can trust not to abuse the power behind it.”  Frostbite put his hand on Danny’s shoulder and smiled at him warmly.  “That someone, Great One, is you.”
Danny smiled back, definitely not blushing while he ran a hand through his hair.  “Alright, I guess I can understand you trusting me but…”
“How was anyone else convinced to trust a child with sovereignty over the whole afterlife?”  Sam arched a brow, arms crossed.  “I’m all for optimism and seeing the best in Danny but if the Realms are truly Infinite then that’s a lot of rulers for a lot of realms that have to be satisfied with his authority.”
“Ah, yes, that.”  Frostbite clapped his hands – paws? Hands – together and the hologram displayed something of a colloseum crossed with a court room.  “The Observant High Council,” he said with a tone that spoke many opinions about this council, “along with others, has been deliberating on the matter.  There are indeed many a realm, and in order to have authority within or over any of them you must gain the respect and loyalty of either the people within a realm or their leader.  To get that, you will likely be put through many trials – both to determine if you are worthy of the crown and to put as many obstacles in Plasmius’ way as possible.”
“So I don’t actually have to take on any new responsibility until I’m ready for it?”  Danny relaxed visibly, his aura brightening up and the room growing a touch chillier.  “Flattered as I am that you think I’m worthy of all this, I’m still 16 and I need to try passing highschool before I go trying to rule an entire universe.”
“Very true, but worry not Great One, the deliberation on what exactly one must do in order to properly earn fealty and sovereignty in the first place shall last a great long time.  We don’t exactly meet up with each other all that often, leaders of the Realms, and distance alone will be quite the factor.  Regardless!”  Frostbite pulled Danny into a hug, blocking out his vision with a face full of white fur.  “I shall happily assist you in any education you require on the subject of leadership.”
“Thank you,” Danny said, muffled.
“Maybe now he’ll focus a little in class,” Tucker said with a laugh.
“Please, Tucker, you think an American school is going to teach Danny how to rule a country, let alone a universe?”
“As much as I would love to argue in favor of academia, yeah, you’ll need to learn from someone with experience for this, little brother.  But first you should focus on your life as a teenager.”
Danny sighed, going limp against Frostbite, doing his best not to think too hard about how he could possibly keep everyone in the Realms safe from one another.

He hates that all he wants to do is paint, but can't seem to find anything beautiful enough to waste his time on. He hates pretty much everything except painting, and even that isn't going the way he wants it to. That is, until he meets one person that might change his outlook on things. As crazy as that sounds.
