Tumblr media
Arranged Pt 2
Yandere Gilbert Blythe x reader
I only write sfw, feel free to make requests. Thank you for asking!! Kinda short and not proof read. Enjoy :)
I love you..." his voice rings in your ears.
"You're so beautiful..." his words make your skin crawl.
"Are you listening?" You have no choice.
From the moment your mother made you let him in to the note on the school board to shuffling down the isle this morning, you were miserable.
Possibly the only enjoyable part of this was seeing how proud your mother was the whole way through. She had fixed up her old wedding dress and fitted it to you. She made you up like a doll for the ceremony. And as your father walked you down the isle you could see tears falling from her eyes. He was so happy. It would have been discomforting if you had thought too much into it though.
Gilbert stared in astonishment as you walked down the aisle in the church. When you arrived at the altar you wanted so badly to repeat the same actions as  Prissy had. Run out of the church and into the field. But you couldn't bring yourself to do it.
After the ceremony the reception was held. Your family and friends all told stories of both you and Gilbert- which were very much exaggerated for the occasion.
Anne had written a poem, Josey made a few snide comments, Ruby talked up every interaction you'd had with Gilbert as if she hadn't been in love with him just a year ago.
It all made you so sick that you couldn't even swallow your food.
Finally you were here. In Gilbert's home. Bash in the room next door caring for his baby, and Gilbert hugging you from behind, his face in the crook of your neck.
"Are you listening Y/N?" He repeats, giving your body a small squeeze. You nod, tears sliding down your cheeks and over your nose. "I'm sorry..." he takes a deep breath.
"For what?" You ask, knowing the answer. He'd done this countless of times in the last few months. Apologizing but never changing.
"I want you to be happy..." you don't respond. It's easier to tune him out. "I'm aware you didn't want thus marriage..." you've fought him every step of the way on this. "So I'm sorry for forcing this onto you..." he's not sorry. He's quite right happy with himself. "But I do love you." The tears begin streaming down your face. "and I'll make sure you're happy. We can have a happy little family- if you want!" He stutters a bit. "We don't have to have kids if you don't want any. It's up to you." He thinks for a second. "It could just be us- and Bash and Delphine, of course."
This isn't love, to you. It's possession. It's kidnapping. It's grotesque and disgusting. Love is supposed to be flowery and sweet.
Maybe you could've had a real romance if Gilbert had approached you correctly; Walked up to you in class, talked to you about your day, invited you over for a nice meal and took your wants and needs into consideration. But that's not what he did. He went to your parents, who gave him his guaranteed spouse. It was as if nothing you thought or felt mattered.
"I love you, Y/N..." he leans over and kisses you on the cheek. "You don't have to say it back." Then reaches over and blows out the candle.
You rub your eyes dry and your cheek raw.

Introducing:
Vivian Choquette
Tumblr media
A new OC for the upcoming fic Your Love's Been a Long Time Coming.
Headcannons:
- Born in 1940, she's 19 when she meets Elvis
- Her mother, Delphine, was French and she never knew her father. Her mother was a dancer and she married Vivian's stepfather, Roland Everett, an American officer, during WWII in 1945. Delphine passed away when Vivian was 14. Now, she lives with her stepfather where he's stationed in Germany.
- She speaks English and French fluently and knows how to communicate in German fairly well.
- She smokes, drinks, and cusses like a sailor, but there's an elegance and grace to her that seems to make everyone forget how crude she can be.
- She writes poetry in English and French and is obsessed with reading, specifically literary criticism, philosophy, poetry, and classic literature.
- She's also an actress, a singer, and plays the piano.
- Her aesthetic is romantic academia and her favorite colors are light pink and mint green.
- Her birthday is February 26th, making her a Pisces.
- She's an outgoing introvert, meaning she loves to work the room at a party, but she also needs time alone to recover from the interaction.
- Her first love was a boy in high school who wrote poetry and played the violin. He promised to marry her, took her virginity, and then disappeared.
- She's a hopeless romantic who is obsessed with all things related to love and the beauty of human connection. She thinks people are poetry and nature is spiritual.
- Her hair is dark brown, her eyes are deep blue, and she's 5'2" tall. Her build is petite and slender and her hands and feet are small and almost fairy-like.
- Despite her French blood, she prefers American food. Still, she herself cannot cook to save her life. She's been known to burn toast and struggle with boiling eggs.
- The other thing she cannot do is any kind of visual art. She can't paint, draw, or sculpt and finds it infinitely frustrating.
- She has a quick, short temper and will explode easily and then forget why she was mad ten minutes later. She also has a sense of melancholy about her and when she's in a mood can spend hours weeping over a sad song or poem.
- She loves music, but her exposure is fairly limited to classical and pop. Her favorite music is her mother's collection of Claude Debussy, specifically Clair de Lune and La Cathédrale Engloutie.
- All in all, she's like a summer thunderstorm, beautiful, chaotic, calming, and poetic all wrapped into one.
******
Stay tuned to meet her as Elvis does

How are the ros when in a romance with mc?
Hi angel!
I'm going to describe kind of overarching "themes" or motifs for each of the romance options and their routes. There won't be many spoilers, but lil fun hints (fun is a loose term cuz im kinda evil).
Also, you'll get to experience romances with the RO when you read the story hehehe, trust me it's coming! The demo is only up to chapter 1...gotta give MC some time to heal from that sweet spicy trauma (or not).
Chapter 2 Part 1 is coming along quite nicely, I'm anticipating it to be about 30K without code.
Without further ado, here are the romance vibes for the RO in Memento Mori!
Tumblr media
Delphine: "i never knew love until I met you", breakfast in bed and massages after a long day, she wants to spoil you, "i wish i could stop time, I wish I could keep this forever." You make her feel worthy, you make her feel seen. She remembers all of your favorite things, her love language is words of affirmation and gift giving. She's protective over you; she lets you see the parts of herself she keeps hidden. all her favorite love songs are about you.
"I wanna love me, the way that you love me. for all of my pretty, and all of my ugly too. I'd love to see me from your point of view. I wanna trust me, the way that you trust me. Ooh, 'cause nobody ever loved me like you do. I'd love to see me from your point of view" POV by Ariana Grande
Honorable Mention: A Thousand Years by Christina Perri
Zero Chevalier: "MC over morals", it's soft smiles and softer touches, like you're the most precious thing he's ever held. it's wide eyed surprise at your reciprocation, love that is dark and consuming, you're in his sweetest dreams, and you're the light in his darkest nightmares, "remind me that this is real." has a hundred drawings of you in his sketchbook "You're my home."
"There's a lover in the story, but the story's still the same. There's a lullaby for suffering, and a paradox to blame. But it's written in the scriptures. And it's not some idol claim. You want it darker. We kill the flame." You Want it Darker by Leonard Cohen
Honorable Mention: Peace by Taylor Swift
Xa'eks/Xa'veed: war between head and heart, not sure who is falling first and who is falling harder, not only bends the rules, but breaks them for you. overwhelmed by the severity of their emotions, wants to make up for all the years they spent without knowing you, has told the stars about you, knows they will lose you but loves you like they won't, you could live inside them and it wouldn't be close enough, love language is physical touch
"I can't help but love you, Even though I try not to. I can't help but want you. I know that I'd die without you. I can't help but be wrong in the dark. 'Cause I'm overcome in this war of hearts. I can't help but want oceans to part. 'Cause I'm overcome in this war of hearts" War of Hearts by Ruelle
Honorable Mention: Illicit Affairs by Taylor Swift
Ayana Tsosie: let me be your peace (when the world is going to shit), there's nothing wrong with loving again, we have more on the line than love, you can't fight your heart without hurting yourself in the long run. she keeps an eye on you across rooms and battlefields, she treats you as her equal, you've become one of the best parts of her life (new and old), you borrowed her heart and refused to give it back, but she gave it willingly. your hand in hers is what love poems are written about.
"Have you ever wished for an endless night? Lassoed the moon and the stars and pulled that rope tight. Have you ever held your breath and asked yourself. Will it ever get better than tonight?" Glitter in the Air by P!nk
Honorable Mention: Love Me Like You Do by Elle Goulding
Cecelia/Chase: friends to lovers but I love my friends just as deeply, they don't know they love you until they almost lose you, there's butterflies in my bloodstream (it must be because of you), partners in crime, communication without words. they know what you need before you do, they bring you flowers and will choose to stare at you over the most beautiful sunsets (because nothing compares in their eyes)
"I'm dancing in the dark. With you between my arms, barefoot on the grass. Listening to our favorite song, I have faith in what I see. Now I know I have met an angel in person" Perfect by Ed Sheeran
Honorable Mention: Say You Won't Let Go by James Arthur

So I got a new book and from the summary alone I got an new au idea. I have not read one page of this book yet.
The book is called The Fairy Bargains of Prospect Hill.
Here's the summary:
There is no magic on Prospect Hill—or anywhere else, for that matter. But just on the other side of the veil is the world of the Fae. Generations ago, the first farmers on Prospect Hill learned to bargain small trades to make their lives a little easier—a bit of glass to find something lost, a cup of milk for better layers in the chicken coop.
Much of that old wisdom was lost as the riverboats gave way to the rail lines and the farmers took work at mills and factories. Alaine Fairborn’s family, however, was always superstitious, and she still hums the rhymes to find a lost shoe and to ensure dry weather on her sister’s wedding day.
When Delphine confides her new husband is not the man she thought he was, Alaine will stop at nothing to help her sister escape him. Small bargains buy them time, but a major one is needed. Yet, the price for true freedom may be more than they’re willing to pay.
So here's the au idea.
The aristocratic families held onto a secret only their families know. Many of their ancestral seats hide the gateways between the human world and the world of the fae. Deals can be made with the fae but everything has a price. Can you pay it?
Kathony
Mary was not surprised when she got a letter saying her parents back in England pissed off the fae, and that's how they were killed. What did surprise her was the deal they made that ultimately led to their deaths. They promised Mary's child to the king of the fae?! Knowing Edwina's dream of a love match, Kate looks for a loophole. Well, Mary did always say Kate came into her life as a daughter. So she should count, right? Anthony raised an eyebrow when Kate presented herself as the bride. Oh, he's gonna have fun with her.
Benophie
In exchange for keeping privileges from the new Earl of Penwood, Araminta sold Posy off as his bride. Or rather his broodmare. Sophie refused to see the closest person she had to a sister be miserable for the rest of her life. It's what pushes her through Penwood to make a deal for Posy's freedom. Now how is she convincing this fae man to make a deal that DOESN'T include her becoming his mistress?
Polin
The Featheringtons are probably one of the more superstitious families. Portia, who was from an area way more familiar with the fae, made sure her daughters knew the tricks of dealing with the fae. So knowing all these tricks and with a mother who had no fear of the fae, is it any wonder that Penelope regularly made deals with them? Nothing ever major, small things that cost a piece of glass or a poem. Of course, whispers of a human who isn't afraid to trade with the fae will travel. Such whispers reach the most chaotic fae prince who wonders how far this little human will trade. Colin siezes his chance for a trade when Penelope comes to make a deal that will allow her favorite sister Felicity freedom from their father's debts.

What's in a Name? — Miraculous Ladybug
1. DUPAIN-CHENG, AGRESTE & GRAHAM DE VANILY
1.1. Dupain-Cheng
Dupain: "of bread", in French.
Cheng: most likely from 程 (chéng) meaning "schedule", "journey", or "procedure". It is the surname of Chinese-born French academician and writer François Cheng.
Marinette: a diminutive of "Marie" and sometimes used as a form of "Marine", it is ultimately derived from an Egyptian name meaning "love, beloved", which was later associated with the Hebrew words for "bitter" and "rebellion". It is etymologically connected to the name of the Ladybug Miraculous: in languages like English and German, the ladybug is named after the Virgin Mary.
"Marinette" is also a noun in French, namely the feminine form of "marin", meaning "sailor", and was thus most likely also chosen in reference to Sailor Moon. In Middle French, it also meant "compass"—a tidbit to keep in mind when watching Captain Hardrock.
The name is very old-fashioned. It was most frequently used from 1927 to 1957, owing to the popularity of the book series "Contes du chat perché", whose main characters were named Delphine and Marinette.
Tom: short form of "Thomas", which comes from an Aramaic word meaning "twin". References series creator Thomas Astruc.
Sabine: from the name of an Italic tribe that inhabited what is now Lazio. Is a reference to the woman who initially inspired Thomas Astruc to create Miraculous Ladybug.
Gina: short form of several Italian names that end with "-gina", such as Regina or Georgina. Was popularized by Italian actress Gina Lollobrigida, whose birth name was Luigina.
Rolland: English variant of "Roland", which is in turn derived from two Germanic elements meaning "fame" and either "land" or "brave". Roland was the name of a semi-legendary Frankish military leader, whose story is told in the epic poem "La Chanson de Roland". Aside from the historical associations, it was probably chosen as a pun on "rolling pin".
Wang: "king", in Mandarin.
1.2. Agreste
Agreste: meaning "rustic" in French, it's also used in the figurative sense of "rude, uncivilized". Is also the French word for the greyling butterfly (Hipparchia semele).
Adrien: ultimately derived from the name of an Etruscan city, which in turn might have been derived from a word meaning "water". Was probably chosen in reference to the Adriatic Sea, since Marinette, Luka, and Félix's names also have a nautical theme.
Athanase: from "Athanasios", a Greek name meaning "immortal".
Gabriel: "God is my strongman", in Hebrew. This is the name of an archangel associated with carrying messages from God. Was most likely chosen in reference to fashion designer Coco Chanel, whose real name was Gabrielle.
Émilie: of Latin origin, it is probably derived from the word "aemulus", which means "rival" or "envious, jealous", and is etymologically related to the word "emulate". Is also most likely a reference to Emily Lyman, mother of Harry Osborn.
1.3. Graham de Vanily
Graham: from two Old English words meaning "gravel" and "homestead".
de Vanily: from the word "vanilla". Together with Emilie and Amelie's first names and their other surname, it forms a pun: in French, "Emilie/Amelie Graham de Vanily" sounds kind of like "un milligramme de vanille", meaning "a milligram of vanilla".
Fathom: from a unit of length equal to about 1.8 meters (6 feet, for the Americans), chiefly used in nautical measurements. As a verb, it means "to measure the depth of something", and is also used figuratively to mean "to comprehend, understand".
Félix: from a Latin word meaning "happy, lucky". Used to be Adrien's name in previous drafts of the story, and was thus most probably a reference to both Felix the Cat and Felicia Hardy.
Amélie: from a Germanic word meaning "work, activity".
Colt: from an English word meaning "young male horse", it was most famously the surname of American industrialist Samuel Colt, owner of the Colt firearms company.

Only in 1949 did French censorship laws change so that a truly complete version of Les Fleurs du mal could be published - ninety-two years after the obscenity trial. The final version contains 158 poems. Six poems that couldn't be published for legal reasons at the time were: Les Bijoux (The Jewels), Le Lethe, A Celle Qui Est Trop Gale (To One who is too Cheerful), Lesbos, Femme damnees: Delphine et Hippolyte (The Damned Women: Delphine and Hippolyte), and Les Metamorphoses du vampire (The Metamorphoses of the Vampire).
The title of Les Fleurs du Mal is evocative, contradictory, and allusive. The title subverts the classical view that identifies the beautiful with the good; it asserts there is beauty in sickness. It creates an image that is both beautiful and dangerous, pleasurable and corrupting (in French the title phrase also carries the meaning "the flowers of sickness.") The title is also sexually suggestive; the flower is the traditional poetic image for budding sexuality (the destructive lure and consequences of sexual desire). Using the term fleurs to refer to his verse, Baudelaire alludes to the Greek root of anthology, "a gathering of flowers." The poet, therefore, positions this collection as part of the classical tradition while also subverting it with "du mal." Unlike traditional collection of lyric verse, Les Fleurs du mal is not a gathering of beautiful poetic flowers, but a bouquet of evil blossoms.
A distinguishing feature of Baudelaire's poetry is the rich texture of his lines. French style, in both prose and verse, has historically been characterized as clair, simple et logique (clear, simple and logical). These qualities were especially evident in French poetry of the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Poets crafted lines of elegance, balance and lucidity. By contrast, Baudelaire's lines are more densely packed. He shows less concern with clarity and ease of his lines than with how much meaning he can concentrate into musical shape. For example:
A massive chest of drawers crammed with lines of verse,
court summonses, love letters, novels, balance sheets
and locks of ample hair rolled up in old receipts
hides fewer secrets than my melancholy brain
"Spleen et Ideal," which opens Les Fleurs du Mal, is the longest and most diverse of the volume's five sections. It requires explanation since the word in English no longer carries the meaning it did for Baudelaire. No term is more important in understanding Les Fleurs du Mal, which may accurately be described as a poetic exploration of spleen. In French, spleen is an anglicism, but the original root is Greek. Greco-Roman doctors believed that the black bile secreted by the spleen produced melancholy, one of the four humors or temperaments of classical medicine. In French, spleen came to mean a depression or melancholy characterized by guilt, ennui, isolation and despair. In English, the term also suggested outbursts of splenetic anger. Spleen is the dominant mood of the Baudelairean persona in Les Fleurs du mal throughout the book. He sought to express the sources of his anger and melancholy. This dark temperament has become so closely associated with Les Fleurs du mal that in French the term is often called spleen baudelairien.
A dozen poems form a cycle that explore sexual desire and its consequences. In "La Destruction," the demon of lust brings the speaker to ruin and damnation. Sexual desire has left the narrator wounded in filthy rags. Who writes such a poem? A young man who knows that he will die from syphilis. "L'Amour et le Crane (Love and the Skull)" describes a macabre engraving of Cupid sitting on a skull blowing bubbles. "La Metamorphoses du vampire" presents a lubricious seductress who, once the sexual act is consummated, is revealed to be a rotted skeleton. The act itself is transcendent, but the downfall is repugnant.
His forceful prose style conveys the originality and perspicacity of his insights. "Always be a poet," he wrote, "even in prose." He describes the perpetual tension between two antithetical forces, and how, trapped in ennui and ego, we long for transcendent meaning. His prose represented a genuine religious and existential rebellion against a seemingly indifferent God. Seeing himself as irrevocably flawed, he chose to embrace his own damnation. "Revolte," unavoidably brings up Baudelaire's strange and inverted Catholicism. It is impossible to understand him as a secular poet. He remained inside the Catholic worldview even as he violently tried to escape it. "Nothing upon this earth is interesting," he wrote, "except religion." He proposes a Catholicisim without Christ - a faith, therefore, that lacks the power to redeem humanity from original sin. Marcel Proust astutely described Les Fleurs du mal as "that sublime but sardonic book in which piety sneers, in which debauchery makes the sign of the cross; in which Satan is entrusted with the task of teaching the most profound theology." In Le Reniement de saint Pierre (Saint Peter's Denial), he presents the Crucifixtion with respectful compassion, but then congratulates Peter for denying Christ. In Abel et Cain, Baudelaire praises Cain for killing his own brother to protest God's plan. Post-revolutionary France was inured to sacrilege and anti-religious satire, but Baudelaire pushed that tolerance to the limits.
In the spirit of Balzac, he presented a realistic street-view of Paris - the disenfranchised, poor and elderly, the workers, beggars, and prostitutes, "the thousands of stray souls - criminals and kept women - who drift about in the underground of a great city."
Before Baudelaire, poets had presents the darker aspects of things in their poems, but had never connected to the beautiful or the sublime. Baudelaire's poetics of evil, however, possess its own ambiguity. Is the discovery of evil transgression or redemptive? Is its aestheticization an end in itself, or must it be connected to a broader frame of values? Does Baudelaire's aesthetic revolution destroy traditional notions of beauty, or does it only broaden the aperture of beauty to reconcile all that exists to an ideal order?

if ur ocs had to make an argumentative post online what would it be on and would they actually care about the topic or are they just doing it for fun
delphine frequently gets into arguments on the internet, mostly about vampires and/or books. she's been banned from twitter for threatening people in arguments before. twice. she definitely cares, too.
aoife gets into debates on the internet sometimes, but she's never really mad. it's mostly about different readings of the movies she watches, and she doesn't understand why people get so aggro!! she has backup if it gets nasty though.
anemone doesn't get into arguments online if she can help it (and she can help it, we all can), but if we're assuming that she Has to make a post for this, it wouldn't be on main. she'd probably complain about some moronic take she saw in the tags of an actual-play podcast she's been listening to.
beatrice is another one who tries to avoid drama and I can't really see her caring enough to correct people even on her passions, but for this exercise, she'll do it for fun... she'd probably pick a poem people like and argue for an unheard-of interpretation just to see how people react, if given an assignment like this.
marley is constantly arguing with people online! she doesn't need a good reason, only someone pissing her off by existing nearby with the wrong attitude. as for whether she cares or not, well... that's a bit of a tricky one, don't you think? I'll leave that up to interpretation.
thanks for the ask!

30th of Frostfall, 4E 171
A poem from Delphine's point of view after the Great War is declared by the infamous Thalmor 'message'.
The sky has fallen on our heads That now roll around on the palace floor Courage and honour? They are dead, No loyalty binds me anymore.
Spectacles of flame and frost Illuminating innocents in Alinor Yet bloodier for me has been the cost Of the first few seconds of this war.
Centuries of knowledge buried Cloud Ruler lies a smoking ruin The End of All it seems has hurried- Where is its herald, Alduin?
Where are the knights' swords, And where the archivists' seal? Where are wisdom's just rewards, Where the hope we sought to reveal?
One of those heads now free of life, Who once taught me how to wield a blade, Now stabs my heart and twists the knife, Draws blood from my eyes as he is unmade.
The Empire taught me another way To wield a Blade, as a weapon of blame- To take our toil as treason and lay All the malice of the Thalmor to our name.
Allies and friends have withdrawn, Cold survival must precede my vow Retreat, shrink like a frozen dawn, Lay aside all claims to legacy now;
A traitor and a hope, I am both To the Blades; cursed to survive, To do that I must forsake my oath, Until the ashes can come alive.
Memory, you and I must part Until you do more good than harm, Today, you only wring my heart And sap the strength of my arm.
I am not a Blade tonight, Standing beside this blazing pyre, Not until the soul I reignite Can withstand the second fire.

Sim Links from Top to Bottom:
Melanie Koenig
YA // Quick Learner // Cheerful // Bookworm // Clumsy
You might think that being the local nerdy librarian and a former teacher’s pet (which her peers always resented her a bit for) means life wasn’t always easy for Melanie. Granted, she is one smart cookie but her people skills never were the best. And yet, while Melanie definitely is a bit awkward, she also has a very sunny disposition and there is very little that can dampen her spirits. She loves reading and has a huge collection of books that she adds to regularly, although the classics are her favorite. And she does prefer watching old Hollywood films on her couch with Pete her cat but every once in a blue moon when Melanie closes the library for the night, she lets Milly and Sabina drag her to the pub for a spot of karaoke.
Bella Teeluck
YA // Quick Learner // Music Lover // Childish // Neat
Bella, like Melanie, was always a good student but what Melanie lacks in people skills, Bella has in abundance. She’s especially popular with the elementary students she teaches because she starts every lesson with a song and she’s never lost the joy of playing with kids’ toys. Bella loves children and they love her because they sense that Bella is still a kid at heart. Music is very important to her and she will often get out the guitar and play pop songs while her nb kid Robin dances and sings along. And sometimes, when he has closed up the shop, Bella’s brother Jonas comes over and joins in, to the great joy of Robin, because Jonas always brings along a new children’s book.
Jake Rowland
YA // Essence of Flavor // Lazy // Bookworm // Jealous
Oh, Jake.. See, here’s the thing with Jake: Jake is majorly in love with Jonas, the local what’sitshop owner, and they have been on and off for a while but Jonas is just a bit too much of a free spirit to believe in monogamy, much to the dismay of Jake, who, let’s be honest, wants Jonas all to himself. And it could all be so perfect, because they both love to cook and they share a great passion for a good story. But Jonas can’t quite be tied down and Jake spends a lot of his time thinking of ways to convince his friend to settle down together (although Jake does like living with his sister Milly because she doesn’t mind when he slacks on his chores.. yet again). Oh, and Jake is not at all too keen on the looks that newcomer Cai is giving Jonas every time he visits the shop!
Kamilah Sabry
Adult // Domestic // Self-Assured // Ambitious // Family-Oriented
Kamilah is the proud mom of recent university graduate Cai and she’s the mayor of Henford-on-Bagley where many say she’s the best mayor the little town has ever seen. Kamilah is a power house and a doer and ‘impossible’ is not in her vocabulary! There is a lot to be done and, by golly, will it be done, if it weren’t for a certain prominent senior Henford-on-Bagley citizen, the formidable Lilly Lindgren, who seems to fancy herself a bit of a deputy mayor. The two can often be seen around town, with Lilly talking to or rather at Kamilah, giving her (unsolicited) advice and telling her how things should or shouldn’t be run and if Kamilah weren’t such a diplomat, she might just tell Lilly to shove it where the sun.. flowers don’t grow.
Prof. Saatvik Acharya
Elder // Gregarious // Cheerful // Genius // Perfectionist
Ah, yes, what would Henford-on-Bagley be without Professor Acharya, another one of the town’s staples. He still holds the occasional lecture at Britechester University but these days he prefers working in his lush garden where he cultivates the most exquisite roses, envy of many a hobby botanist around, and where he can be found playing chess and contemplating the meaning of life with Sabina or Herbert on many a lazy afternoon. Saatvik has a witty and warm sense of humor and even reclusive Delphine doesn’t mind when he comes by to chat about her roses, not only because Saatvik is so charming but also because he’s gentleman enough to leave a lady’s secrets alone. Quite unlike Lilly, who is always on everybody’s case but Saatvik and Delphine alike know well enough to hide behind their rose bushes when Lilly comes by.
Herbert Birch
YA // Muser // Gloomy // Foodie // Lactose Intolerant
Poor Herbert. Life really did a number on him when it made him lactose intolerant because, see, Herbert is a dairy farmer like his parents before him and their parents before.. you get the drift. Herbert only found out recently about his affliction but at least now he knows why he’s always been so, uhm, bloated. It’s a bit of a tragedy because Herbert loves blue cheese like no one else but he also likes writing poems ~ Herbert is a bit of a sensitive soul ~ and dreams of publishing them as none of his friends have the heart to tell him that they’re not very good. So, clueless Herbert milks his cows, composing in his mind a poem to win over Rosa, the pretty girl with the raven hair and the strawberry earrings. Maybe his friend Milly can put in a good word for him!
Sabina Buckland
YA // Collector // Animal Enthusiast // Vegetarian // Outgoing
Sabina is a true child of nature, she lives at the edge of the forest and will often be found wandering the woods, talking to the animals and collecting what nature has to offer. You might think she’s a loner but Sabina loves people and she will always stop by the Prof’s cottage for a casual musing about the universe and how the stars are aligning that day, cheer up Herbert as he fusses over his newest tragic poem and have some coffee with Jonas who she sells the crystals and fossils to that she finds on her wanderings. Yet, for all her approachability there is something a little mysterious about Sabina and the town folk sure wonder why the mushrooms around her little house grow so abnormally large, winning the Finchwick Fair Competition five years in a row!

I think Amphitrite is honestly an underrated goddess/ immortal.
I mean she’s Poseidon’s wife - i thought there would be more talk about her.
In order to change that i put this together to educate people about her.
I like the fact she never gets jealous of Poseidon’s cheating. I mean she is constantly getting cheated on but she seems pretty chill (she represents the calm seas so that may have something to do with it) and she even helps Poseidon’s kids (like Theseus.)
I like her lol
(Lowkey feel like she was done dirty in Percy Jackson. Literally the only representation and shes jealous and spiteful oof.)
Biography
Parents : Oceanus and Thetis or Nereus and Doris.
Greek : Amphitrite (Meaning - The Surrounding Third/Sea)
Roman : Salacia (Meaning - The Salty One)
Amphitrite was essentially the Primadorial goddess Thalassa (the sea) the female personification of the seas.
[Whereas Poseidon was essentially the Primadorial god Pontus - the male personfication of the seas]
Amphitrite is said to counter Poseidon as Poseidon represents the salty, uncontrollable seas (see - Poseidons wrath in myth for symbolic terms of this) whilst Amphitrite is said to represent the calm ocean’s (see - she isn’t wrathful like Hera towards Poseidon’s bastards, she understands the kids can’t help being the child of their father - she also doesn’t get involved in olympian affairs as much as she could.)
Amphitrite was often depicted in the artistic decorations of Poseidon's temples. Presumably she was honoured alongside the god.
Her children include her son Triton and her daughters Rhode, Benthesikme and Kymopoleia.
Poseidon (Her marriage)
Nereid Amphitrite gained the attention of Poseidon for her blue, dark eyes and beauty (some say it was her fiery personality that drew him in.)
However, Amphitrite knew full well what Poseidon’s advances meant and fled and so the Nereid hid herself away near Atlas, east of the Mediterranean.
Her disappearance only caused Poseidon to become more infatuated eith marrying her. And so he sent sea creatures to find her.
Delphin came across her and persuaded her to marry Poseidon, reluctantly she returned and they were wed.
Poseidon was so thankful he placed Delphin in the stars.
Theseus (Amphitrite with bastard kids of Poseidon.)
Amphitrite is a direct contrast with Hera - she does not go after the women her husband bed, nor does she go after his children.
In the case of Theseus : Minos doubted his parentage. He titled Theseus a liar, declaring him no son of the sea/ Poseidon.
Minos threw his ring into the ocean, told Theseus to get it to prove he was a child of Poseidon.
Amphitrite heard of the challenge, and when Theseus went to return the ring - she gifted him her crown and claimed him as her son in order to prove he was a son of Poseidon.
There’s also no myth of Amphitrite never going after Poseidon’s women.
Small Fun Fact
When Leto gave birth due to Poseidon granting her passage or to her sister Asteria’s intervention and help, Amphitrite helped her.
Evidence I Used
AMPHITRI′TE (Amphitritê), according to Hesiod (Theog. 243) and Apollodorus
(i. 2. § 7) a Nereid, though in other places Apollodorus (i. 2. § 2, i. 4. § 6) calls her an Oceanid. She is represented as the wife of Poseidon and the goddess of the sea (the Mediterranean), and she is therefore a kind of female Poseidon. In the Homeric poems she does not occur as a goddess, and Amphitrite is merely the name of the sea. The most ancient passages in which she occurs as a real goddess is that of Hesiod above referred to and the Homeric hymn on the Delian Apollo (94), where she is represented as having been present at the birth of Apollo. When Poseidon sued for her hand, she fled to Atlas, but her lover sent spies after her, and among them one Delphinus, who brought about the marriage between her and Poseidon, and the grateful god rewarded his service by placing him among the stars.
(Tzetz. ad Lycoph. 45, 649.) She became by Poseidon the mother of Triton, Rhode, or Rhodos, and Benthesicyme.
(Hesiod. Theog. 930, &c.; Apollod. i. 4. § 6; iii. 15. § 4.) Later poets regard Amphitrite as the goddess of the sea in general, or the ocean. (Eurip. Cycl. 702; Ov. Met. i. 14.) Amphitrite was frequently represented in ancient works of art; her figure resembled that of Aphrodite, but she was usually distinguished from her by a sort of net which kept her hair together, and by the claws of a crab on her forehead. She was sometimes represented as riding on marine animals, and sometimes as drawn by them. The temple of Poseidon on the Corinthian isthmus contained a statue of Amphitrite
(Paus. ii. 1. § 7), and her figure appeared among the relief ornaments of the temple of Apollo at Amyclae (iii. 19. § 4). on the throne of the Olympian Zeus, and in other places. (v. 2. § 3, comp. i. 17. § 3, v. 26. § 2.) We still possess a considerable number of representations of Amphitrite. A colossal statue of her exists in the Villa Albani, and she frequently appears on coins of Syracuse. The most beautiful specimen extant is that on the arch of Augustus at Rimini.
Halosydne (Halosudnê), that is, “the seafed,” or the sea born goddess, occurs as a surname of Amphitrite and Thetys. (Hom. Od. iv. 404, Il. xx. 207.)
Theseus
Pausanias, Description of Greece 1. 17. 3 (trans. Jones) (Greek travelogue C2nd A.D.) :
“[Minos king of Krete (Crete)] hurled insults at him [Theseus] and denied that he was a son of Poseidon, since he could not recover for him the signet-ring, which he happened to be wearing, if he threw it into the sea. With these words Minos it is said to have thrown the ring, but they say that Theseus came up from the sea with that ring and also with a gold crown that Amphitrite had given him.”
Pseudo-Hyginus, Astronomica 2. 5 (trans. Grant) (Roman mythographer C2nd A.D.) :
“Minos is said to have drawn a gold ring from his finger and cast it into the sea. He bade Theseus bring it back, if he wanted him to believe he was a son of Neptunus [Poseidon] . . . Theseus, without any invoking of his father or obligation of an oath, cast himself into the sea. And at once a great swarm of dolphins, tumbling forward over the sea, led him through gently swelling waves to the Nereides. Say that the crown came from the wife [Amphitrite] of Neptunus, and Theseus is said to have given it to Ariadne as a gift, when on account of his valor and courage she was given to him in marriage.”
Pseudo-Hyginus, Astronomica 2. 17 (trans. Grant) (Roman mythographer C2nd A.D.) :
“Constellation Delphin. Eratosthenes [Hellenistic poet C3rd B.C.] and others give the following reason for the dolphin’s being among the stars. Amphitrite, when Neptunus [Poseidon] desired to wed her and she preferred to keep her virginity, fled to Atlas. Neptunus sent many to seek her out, among them a certain Delphin, who, in his wandering s among the islands, came at last to the maiden, persuaded her to marry Neptunus, and himself took charge of the wedding. In return for this service, Neptunus put the form of a dolphin among the constellations.”
Amphitrite’s Marriage
Virgil, Georgics 1. 29 ff (trans. Fairclough) (Roman bucolic C1st B.C.) :
“You [Caesar praised as if he were Neptunus (Poseidon)] come as god of the boundless sea and sailors worship your deity alone, while farthest Thule owns your lordship and Tethys with the dowry of all her waves buys you to wed her daughter [Amphitrite].”
Oppian, Halieutica 1. 38 ff (trans. Mair) (Greek poet C3rd A.D.) :
“The Dophins : Poseidon loves them exceedingly, inasmuch as when he was seeking Amphitrite the dark-eyed daughter of Nereus who fled from his embraces, Delphines (the Dolphins) marked her hiding in the halls of Okeanos (Oceanus) and told Poseidon; and the god of the dark hair straightway carried off the maiden. Her he made his bride, queen of the sea, and for their tidings he commended his kindly attendants and bestowed on them exceeding honour for their portion.”
Helping Leto
Homeric Hymn 3 to Delian Apollo 89 ff (trans. Evelyn-White) (Greek epic C7th - 4th B.C.) :
"Leto [on the island of Delos] was racked nine days and nine nights with pangs beyond wont. And there were with her all the chiefest of the goddesses, Dione and Rheia and Ikhnaie (Ichnaea) and Themis and loud-moaning Amphitrite and the other deathless goddesses. Then the child leaped forth to the light, and all the goddesses raised a cry. Straightway, great Phoibos (Phoebus) [Apollon], the goddesses washed you purely and cleanly with sweet water, and swathed you in a white garment of fine texture, new-woven, and fastened a golden band about you."

Im dealing with conflicting feelings for my grandmother who might be dying, or maybe not but she's very old and has cancer. I know this might be heavy to read I just wondered if you had any book or poetry recommendations? Like about complicated family relationships and grief. I just feel a lot of guilt, sorry again.
I’m really sorry I hope you’ll be okay. I hope I will be able to help you a little ♡
Ada Limón’s collection Bright Dead Things deals a lot with the loss of her stepmother and their complicated relationship, perfectly embodied in the poem “In A Mexican Restaurant I Recall How Much You Upset Me”
Sharon Olds had a complicated relationship with her parents and wrote very poignant poems about it: “I Go Back to May 1937” “After 37 Years My Mother Apologizes for My Childhood” “To See My Mother” (this one is specifically about her mother’s death)
Dorianne Laux also had complicated relationships with her family, for instance “Family Stories” and her poem “Trying to Raise the Dead” deals with grief
Same for Louise Glück and her parents: “Metamorphosis” about her father dying, “Nocturne” about her mother dying, “Aboriginal Landscape” and “Visitors from Abroad” about the aftermath of their deaths
Marie Howe wrote a lot about grief: What the Living Do about the loss of her brother, The Kingdom of Ordinary Time about her dying mother and Magdalene less personal but still focused on grief. Some poems that are absolutely gutting: “What the Living Do” “The Gate” “The Promise” “Magdalene” “Magdalene—The Seven Devils”
Some other poems about grief:
“Taking Care” by Callista Buchen
“Heavy” by Mary Oliver (“That time / I thought I could not / go any closer to grief / without dying / I went closer, / and I did not die.” !)
“Introduction to Quantum Theory” by Franny Choi
“Separation” by W. S. Merwin
“Funeral Blues” by W.H. Auden
“The Glass Essay” by Anne Carson
Some books about grief and dealing with grief: The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion, The Waves by Virginia Woolf, Written on the Body by Jeanette Winterson, Grief Lessons: Four Plays by Euripides and Nox by Anne Carson, Grief is the Thing with Feathers by Max Porter, The Chronology of Water by Lidia Yuknavitch, also Bluets by Maggie Nelson to a certain extent
Some books with/about difficult family relationships (mostly mothers/children): Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal? and Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson, Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn, The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong, When I Grow Up I Want to Be a List of Further Possibilities by Chen Chen, Rien ne s’oppose à la nuit/Nothing Holds Back the Night by Delphine de Vigan

Hipòlita i Delfina (“Hippolyta and Delphyne”) by the Catalan artist Ernest Santasusagna, 1927. Oil on canvas. Found at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC), Barcelona.
The French poet Charles Baudelaire was influential to the artists in Catalonia too, and this is an example of it. The painting represents the two main characters of Baudelaire’s poem “Doomed women (Delphine and Hyppolyte)”, which talks about the sexual and affective relation between these two women. The poem was printed in the first edition of Baudelaire’s famous 1857 book Les Fleurs du mal, but was censored and eliminated from the next editions together with other the poems, accused of insulting the “public moral” and the “good traditions”.
Happy Pride month! 🏳️‍🌈 ⚧

mag 85!
Such a great pick, MAG 85 might be my favorite episode that’s not related to the main plot!
In the poem, I had always imagined a translucent figure, absent in life and body, but visible. But I couldn’t see this man. Obviously, I couldn’t. I couldn’t see him or hear him or speak to him. Because… there was nobody there. The staircase was empty, as he stretched his arm to gesture me closer.
I couldn’t decide so here are two book recommendations:
Based on a True Story by Delphine de Vigan
When L. comes into Delphine’s life, a downwards spiral begins. Delphine has to question what is and isn’t real as her identity is taken from her.
Tree of Codes by Jonathan Safran Foer
A new story cut out of an existing book. This book is telling a story by erasure and is about the parts that aren’t there just as much as it is about the parts that are.
send me a tma episode and i'll give you a related book recommendation

This guy's abroad
I'm having to take a look at my google calendar to remember the things that I've been up to this week. It's felt like a long one.
Let's unpack. It started on Saturday when we took a trip to the catacombs in Paris. There were short poems written on boards placed around the skulls and bones. We were with our French guide, Jerome, one of the students at ENSEA. Kevin, one of my fellow students abroad, met him in the gym and he offered to take us to the catacombs. While in the catacombs, I would ask Jerome for translations for some of the poems. One of them was roughly, "Death is never in the present, always in the future or past." I thought that one was pretty smart.

A poem in the catacombs of Paris
Moving forward, I had a lot of classes this week. On Tuesday I had an 8 hour day! All of my classes are 2 hours long and because we are only 2 students in the class, I end up having to stay engaged the entire time. I'm sure that's a dream come true for some teachers, but it makes these long stretches of classes almost impossible. Those 8 hours left me a new person. I felt like I'd been put in the spin cycle in a washing machine. Oh, that reminds me! I have to put my laundry in the dryer. It costs about 1.8 euros for a dry and 2.8 for a wash. The building has a washer dryer in it.
I'm enjoying my classes but I'm considering dropping one of them. I'm not getting credit for the probability and statistics course and so I don't really know why I would take it. These 8 hours days are a lot and so I've been trying to get in contact with an advisor who can tell me what to do.

The gang out for dinner at a Bistro in Paris with Jerome
Onto cultural immersion.
Well, today was an immersion into many cultures. I started the day buying shoes at the local mall and I met this 14-year-old student at the local university and somehow he was working at the Adidas store. I don't know what was going on there, so I asked about it and he told me he wasn't working there, but also he got me my shoes, so I think he must have been working there. I thought it would be illegal for a 14 year old to be working. I think it's 15 in the US. Ok, I just looked it up and you're only allowed to work at 16 with parental consent in France. I was a part of a crime.
Then I went to lunch and spoke with some of the other international students and the Americans. One student was from Brazil, there was Juan from Bogota in Colombia and Clara from Argentina. Once that was done, I went with the South American students to the optional French class taught by Ms. Delphine.
I entered the class and she started speaking to me quickly in french, "......... tarde ....... vous ........ arrette... assentent"
The words I show are the only ones I heard and understood. I just knew that she wanted me to sit down and I got that I was late. She only spoke in French, and I couldn't really understand her. We actually watched a French mini-skit thing about a couple going through a divorce and like the husband's company failing or I really don't know. It was all words I'm not familiar with. I was sitting next to one of the South American students I had just met, Diego, and he helped me get a few words because he has a bit more French language experience.
That was another 2 hour class of being on my toes, because she was picking on random people, and there was no way I wasn't going to fake my way into French knowledge.
After that, I found myself at an Asian culture fair. I had to identify spices, learn origami and take a Japanese culture quiz, learn how to and then play Mahjong (that was hard), learn basic Korean history ( very interesting ), and play rock paper scissors where when you lose you get bonked on the head. That passed and I thought I had had enough so I headed back home.
I felt more confident in the grocery store because I had been through so much cultural change just in those few hours, that a few french labels didn't really scare me anymore. And, I was fine to speak the basic french I do know at the cash register and everything. So honestly, I feel like the uber immersion that I did get has been beneficial. It's been a good way to just rip the bandaid off, and now I hope I'm not too scared to try my French with other people.
Another round off to the day is that I met a girl from Sweden in the elevator in my apartment and then I met a French guy named Romain at the gym in ENSEA who turned out to be pretty much my neighbor. It made the walk home easier for sure.
