Lord Dullanathri the Season Keeper requests the pleasure of your presence at the turning of the season in the city of Baldur’s Gate for a party of great splendor in celebration of the arriving fall season and Autumn Equinox. Guests are expected to arrive Saturday, the 9th or fashionably late.
Formal partywear will be provided. Further details are enclosed.

A Dungeons & Dragons / Baldur's Gate RPC Event ( crafted w/ assistance from @charmsperson and @heincus ! )
Essentials:
THE SETUP
Hi Hello Hallo Bonjour Ciao! This section will contain a rudimentary breakdown of this event in plainspeak for muns, as I understand the google doc might seem intimidating at first glance.
Essentially: this is a big excuse for dnd + bg3 muses to be dressed in fancy formalwear and interact! I saw a lot of people on dash saying they wish there was a DA: I Winter Palace equivalent event in BG3, and several people seemed interested in having a form of open-fandom event taking place that gave them a reason to do that. That is the main goal of this event---to let muses have fun in fancy clothes.
Lord Dullanathri the Season Keeper is an Archfey who has brought his Domain of Delight to Baldur's Gate for his annual festivities celebrating the ushering in of Fall, which it is his duty to oversee. All of Baldur's Gate, including the Outer City areas and Duskhawk Hill, are encompassed by his domain at this time and subject to its rules and aesthetics to some degree. Namely: fall leaves and colors, Feywild plants, lots of fall harvests ( plants such as corn, kale, pumpkin, turnips, beets, etc. ), music, large feasts, and a good dose of fey whimsy. Dullanathri's presence, for those who are aware of him, is considered to be a blessing as his domain's arrival will ensure the successful harvest of all crops and forgeables in the surrounding area, leaving plenty to preserve for the upcoming Winter. Baldur's Gate also loves a good party, and though there is typical Fey mischief afoot, Dullanathri is a neutral party and will not intentionally harm others personally. While the party is going on, all individuals inside the domain will be automatically dressed in formal gala attire; feel free to choose any outfit you would like that you feel is suitable for your character and share it with others! Draw it! Make an image collage of references! Dress your character up in appropriately fancy clothes from the game! Write a drabble about it, Cinderella style! Approach this however you like, before or during the event.
🍂FAQ🍁
What is an RPC / Dash Event ?: Consider this the dashboard equivalent of an in-game event, such as the Lantern Rite Festival in Genshin Impact or special 7⭐ Tera Raids in Pokemon Scarlet+Violet, where many people can come together to participate.
Who is Playing the NPCs?: You are! Or your writing partner is. Feel free to fill in the gaps of the personalities of other party attendants and citizens of Baldur's Gate in a way that is interesting to you and use the skill checks as a guide for your interactions (if you wish). This includes any battle segments, such as Flower Wars---you are free to play this as true-to-form of a real campaign battle as you want, or to plot out things with your partner in advance. Do what suits you.
Is this Mutuals Exclusive?: No! Anyone is free to take the event information / set-up and post opens or write while also respecting the rules of individuals
( ie. you do not have to be mutuals with me to participate in this event, but you must still respect the rules of other writers ( such as being mutuals-exclusive ) unless they state otherwise. )
Do Characters Have to do Side Quests?: No! The Side Quests are merely additional scenario prompts to help flesh out the party, and to give various types and personalities of characters a reason to attend and interact. Not every muse is an extrovert but some are heroic, or power motivated, or curious. These quests exist to give writers material to interact with the party in a way beyond just attending, and to write with others. If you aren't interested, you don't need to focus on them.
TLDR;
If you have questions, feel free to send me an ask, and I'll do my best to answer them!
I hope this can be an event people have fun with, so I've left a large timeframe open to give people more of a chance to participate, as I know people have busy lives and different timezones.
When?: Saturday, September 9th, 2023 - Sunday, September 24th, 2023
Where (in game)?: Baldur’s Gate ( all city districts ); Dusthawk Hill
Who?: Dungeons & Dragons / Baldur’s Gate muses + OCs. ( mutual status is not required to participate. Anyone interested or with an affiliated verse may use this content to interact, write threads, create art, etc. )
Tags?: #EquinoxEvent_2023
please use this tag to track opens, prompt lists, interact with others, and so that non-fandom blogs make blacklist it if necessary (for those who are multi-fandom)

Naranja/Uva Academy Students (birthday headcanons)
Okay, so since I have a notebook that I've been taking some notes on for Pokemon Scarlet/Violet (mostly "Violet" for me) to get ready for it (especially the Mid-Term and Finals). And I couldn't help but hypothesize about the students (including the Team Star members) about their birthdays by using the dates of their special interests. [Florian/Juliana's birthday is my birthday since the Playable Protagonist's birthday mirrors the player's birthday, so they're excluded from this hypothesis. (this also includes their special interests)] [Mela's birthday was a bit of a challenge due to not having the game yet (I planned on buying it for my birthday).]
1.) Florian/Juliana - October 12th Special Interest: Taking notes. This is non-explanatory, but it's also what I've been doing to get these pieces of information.
2.) Nemona - February 27th Special Interest: Pokemon battles. According to the real-life timeline of Pokemon, the first Pokemon game (Pokemon Red) made its first debut in Japan on February 27, 1996. In chronological order, it was the game, trading cards, manga, and anime.
3.) Arven - December 29th Special Interest: Making sandwiches. Due to the shape/size of the bread, I assumed that it would be "Subway bread", but due to the location of Paldea and its real-life equivalent of it (Spain, Portugal, and Andorra), it wouldn't make sense historically. So, I had to do some research on the Sandwich (which is based on the Bocatas or "bocadillo") and it was a little touch and go for a while, but I thankfully narrowed it down... According to legend, a general named Tomás de Zumalacárregui (12/29/1788-6/24/1835) invented the tortilla de patatas during the Carlist wars. When the bread was added, the bocadillo was born!
4.) Penny - February 14th Special Interest: Machines/computers. According to Penn Today (no pun intended), the world's first general-purpose electronic computer was introduced into the world on February 14, 1946.
5. ) Giacomo - December 15th Special Interest: Music, Rock (DJ) Albert James "Alan" Freed (12/15/1921-01/20/1965) was an American disc jockey (DJ) who helped spread the importance of rock and roll music throughout North America.
6.) Mela - September 23rd Special Interest: Flashy costumes. So, here's the reason why this was a challenge; there were no specific dates on when "flashy costumes/outfits" were a thing. So, I had to look a bit deeper at her attire for easy clues. Luckily, there's her boot! More specifically, her "over-the-knee boots". In the Autumn of 1962, Balenciaga had a collection that featured "a tall boot by Mancini that covers the knee". To get the month and day, I had to look up the Autumnal Equinox of that year.
7.) Atticus - November 16th Special Interest: Vintage. This was a little bit of a challenge like Mela's. But after digging, I came across the one article of clothing was that known as the birth of vintage... The raccoon coat. More specifically, the issue of The Saturday Evening Post featured an illustration of several college men sporting raccoon coats on 11/16/1929.
8.) Ortega - January 19th Special Interest: Engineer/Mechanic. Okay, so before I read about Ortega being a mechanic/engineer for the Ruchbah Squad, at first I thought that his thing was Fairycore. Ever since, after a little bit of research, the man named James Watt (01/19/1736-8/25/1819) was a Scottish inventor and mechanical engineer.
9.) Eri - February 12th Special Interest: Wrestling. Okay, so this may contain a pun, but it's a part of Japanese history. John Graham Chambers endeavored to introduce and promote the concept of a style of wrestling that he denominated "the catch-as-catch-can style" of wrestling (aka Catch Wrestling or "Professional Wrestling").

Luci@Loki: A casual wave of greeting is given to Loki as he approaches, though he takes a moment carefully consider his words... he gives the blossoming tree a thoughtful glance, " 'm sorry to hear about what happened to you at your old home. Already hard enough to deal with some stuff when you've got the whole "legendary" thing goin' on. This place does seem t' mean a lot to you, though- 'specially the color. I'm gonna guess there's somethin' special about that, too?"
Loki had been settled beneath the blossoming dogwood tree, contentedly leafing through a scrapbook of garden plans. She happened to look upward not long after the Mew arrived, returning his wave with a soft, welcoming smile and a wave of her own. She let the psychic feline take his time before he spoke, noticing the casual speech pattern, sensing a... familiarity to his voice. She didn't quite recall it immediately, but a part of her had an inkling of who he was. She nodded in appreciation at his thoughtful question, and the empathy he shared with her over the incident from centuries past.
"Hey. Long time no see. At least, it certainly feels like it's been a long time since I last saw you, assuming I'm thinking of the right Mew. Hopefully I'll get this first try, but uh.... Lu..." She paused and put her left hand to her muzzle. "...cifer? Yeah, that seems like it. Lucifer, right? I know I've talked to you like once or twice; it's hard to remember exactly when or how often but you're definitely familiar. It's always good to see a fellow legendary... even if most would consider me a 'mythical' and not a true 'legendary.' I mean whatever, right?"
Loki shook her head with a sigh. "Thanks for the condolences. Far from your fault, though. Kind of a lot of things that I couldn't really control, but White Forest welcomed me with open branches and I've lived her for hundreds of years. I've walked by my old forest; it's grown back pretty nicely thanks to being protected by those in Castelia City. It's not nearly as full of flowers and the trees are thinner than they once stood, but it's nice to see it still remains in some capacity. I don't dare go back into it, though; I can't guarantee that even after all this time I'd be forgiven for what was formerly seen as a major transgression."
Loki's ears twitched in thought at the Mew's question about her colouration. "Yeah, honestly, I could go on for hours talking about what purple means to me, but I'll spare you the all-day chatter and give you a bit of an abridged version. Purple has basically been my favourite colour since I was a kid. There's always been something about the way it looks, the way it feels... and it was the colour of my first husband's eyes. I fell in love with him the instant I saw the brilliant purple reflecting back when I looked into his gaze, and despite his initial reluctance to trust my words, he liked being around me."
"He was a Houndoom. His name was Xera Rainmist Shijima... but he always went by just Shijima. Or Shiji-boo, or Sweetheart; he never got tired of that from me. Hehe..." She blushed a bit at the memory, a few happy tears forming at the corners of her eyes. "I'm going to get this backwards, I'm sure, but I think Xera was his family name, and Rainmist was the name of his clan. And Shijima was his given name. We built a relationship from the ground up; I began earning his trust, and in time, his love. This tree... we planted it here on the night we were wed, as it was a long-standing tradition to plant a tree to symbolise the strength and commitment of two Pokemon who chose to be life partners. It was said that if the tree wilted, the union was doomed, but this tree not only prospered, it flourished, and became my nightly sleeping spot, usually with him curled up along my tauric belly."
"I chose the dogwood because it takes a vibrant, stunning hue of amethyst during the fall, and with me being born on the Autumnal Equinox, and him being, well, a dog Pokemon, it felt almost like I couldn't go wrong to make that the emblem of our union, you know? Years went by; purple became even closer to me, more a part of my core identity, and eventually, with such volatile DNA in my body, I became more and more like the dogwood that served as my long-time home with Shijima. The peppermint scents became lavender, what once were emerald eyes became amethyst to match Shijima's. And of course..." Loki's tail waggled gently, the leafy appendage ruffling a bit with each motion. "The affinity I have with plants shone through into my appearance."
"I guess you could say that all of this purple is somewhat of a way of wearing my heart, and the memories of my husband, on my sleeve, so to speak." Loki wiped up at her tearing eyes with a soft grunt, ears drooping before perking back toward the sky. "It's funny how even the simplest habits and memories so firmly shaped and embedded themselves in me that it began to show on my outside as well. I'm certainly a lot less fiery than I was in my youth, and I certainly wasn't anything like this..." She gestured to her body. "...back in those days."
It's possible that Lucifer would be thankful he got the abridged version of the story at this point, but not being psychic, Loki wouldn't know either way. Regardless, the answer was out, and one could sense a palatable relief in the hybrid's expression. Lavender scents filled the surrounding air, and a careful ear would detect soft purrs of contentment from Loki's muzzle. One might sense that Loki felt relief from being able to relive happy memories, and that being able to do so with an old acquaintance brought its own comfort. Still, the answers and stroll down memory lane brought their own questions with them, but those would be for another day...

It Changes, like Water (CH. 3)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary: Akari has just met Gaeric for the first time and is still a little rattled by the experience. Ingo tries to reassure her by telling her a story.
Content Warning: Blood, bodily injury, and wild animal attack
Notes: I've made this in honor of Monsoon-of-Art and their PLA mer au (and just a touch from a different au where Gaeric acts as Irida's guardian). Many of the scenes in this fic are directly inspired by their work, there mer stuff more specifically. I've been a big fan of them since I started playing PLA and I've only grown to love all their characterizations of some of my favorite characters in all of Pokemon.
Just before we get into the swing of things, I should mention that much of this story is based off my understanding of the coastal waters of western Canada and Alaska. That's why you'll see mention of char and lamprey, you can find both in that region. While not entirely faithful to the actual location of the Hisui region, I thought it was a nice balance of environments from the Arctic Ocean to around Washington state in the US.
This is also where I first mention the Nobles and you'll see I do not change their names in the coming chapters. I thought it would prove to be a little confusing if I called them by the animals they're based off in Mons mer au (this will be more clear in the next chapter). I'm treating the names (Lord Avalugg, Lady Lilligant, etc.) like they're genuine titles, like the Duke of York. There were many Dukes of York, but they all went by the same title. Sorry if it seems confusing.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy! Don't like to read on Tumblr? Read it here on AO3.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the autumnal equinox approached, Gaeric spent many hours teaching Irida how to defend herself when she was in the water. The girl was still far too scrawny for her age, but that began to change with the migration patterns. The clan began to prosper again, which meant that Irida was expected to see the elders more regularly and start learning about her duties to her clan. However, it was abundantly clear that she had gained… certain undesirable traits from her pseudo-guardian. She frequently mimicked his irritable attitude and sever distaste for Diamond Clan. She never made it to her lessons because she was usually asleep during the day, just like Gaeric. Irida was not interested in her position, she wanted to continue her life as it was. She had grown to see Gaeric as an older brother and, like any younger sibling would, she would mimic his every move.
This worried the elders and the rest of the clan. Palina, the only other person who Irida found even the remotest of kinships with, did her best to influence her – but that influence only went so far. Gaeric carried on exactly as he was, the protest of the elders falling on mostly deaf ears as a sort of retribution for allowing his mother’s death to be a passing footnote in the clan’s history. They had told him to watch over Irida, that was his only instruction, and that was exactly what he was doing. He was a brash, angry, and mourning teenager who was forced into a position of guardianship, and nobody seemed to want to understand that from his perspective. He couldn’t have predicted how Irida would latch on to him and he to her – although he would never admit that- and now they were asking him to just let her go?
“What are we looking for today?”
“Char. Its mating season for them, so we’re headed inland today. Watch yourself. There’ll be a lot of predators. If we’re lucky, we’ll get a good haul.”
The warning was not without merit. Gaeric remembered his mother warning him about the same thing. Although her primary concern had been bears, there was the off chance of sharks. He was collecting various equipment - a few spears and a make-shift trident he fashioned for the less dexterous Irida, and a few nets for their haul. After such a lean winter, a haul of fatty salmon just sounded divine, and he had hopes that this would somewhat get the elders, and the likes of Palina, off his back.
“Where are you two headed?”
Speak of the devil. Gaeric pointedly kept on task, but Irida was gleefully explaining their plans to her other sibling figure, even if she was being scolded for missing another lesson in favor of this trip. The girl puffed up and said that the lessons she learned were boring when she could be going out to explore their territory and learning how to hunt and provide for her fellow clan members. That made a smug grin appear on his face, even if he kept his head low to conceal it. He could imagine Palina rolling her eyes in agitation as she gently, but firmly tried to reiterate the importance of the elders’ teachings.
“Gaeric can teach you about hunting and gathering, but they can teach you about our history and about the importance of our nobles. Your father told you about the nobles, right?”
With lightning like reflexes rarely seen on land, Gaeric had whipped around and had slammed his hands down on either side of Irida, leaning closer to Palina with a snarl. The intimidation did not fail and actually made her lose her balance and topple backwards, blinking up in astonishment as Gaeric huffed down at her.
The topic did not come up often but mention of her parents made her deeply upset. Irida was pressed up against him, motionless but at least not crying. He still wasn’t sure how to deal with crying after all this time. It was like she was still thinking about what Palina had said when she responded.
“Yes…”
“W-Well, you should go see the elders. They could teach you a lot more about-”
Palina glanced up at Gaeric looming over her, his stance protective behind the small girl.
“They could certainly teach you a lot more about that.”
The smallest mer did not reply, but she removed herself from the conversation by crossing the cavern and sliding through the hole into the sea. Now that the initial shock had worn off, Palina was upright and shoving Gaeric back with just as much ferocity as he had displayed. He looked remarkably unfazed and went back to packing his stuff up for their hunt as Palina berated him.
“Don’t you ever lunge at me like that again!”
She hissed, baring her teeth which almost made him roll his eyes.
“Why do you suddenly think you know what’s best for her, Gaeric? The elder are worried that she’s not going to want to take up the mantle because of what you’ve been teaching her.”
“Yeah? Well, maybe they should have reconsidered that earlier.”
He could hear the stress in her voice, obviously someone had been putting a lot of pressure on her to try to win Irida over. Since either he or Irida herself stymied her every time, it was clear Palina was on the receiving end of some backlash. While he could understand her position, he didn’t feel wholly sympathetic. He hadn’t been asked, he was simply told to watch over Irida, and he had done as he was told. Now everyone wanted to have a problem with it. A year and a half of raising her like she was his kid sister and now the elders wanted to scoop her up to start training her? Talk about being late to the game.
“She’s going to be our leader – she has to learn about our traditions and teachings at some point. You can’t shelter her forever.”
Just under his skin, his blood was boiling but he just focused on what he was doing. Palina was just in a bad mood, letting off steam at him because he was somewhat the source, but not exactly the pressure. He was leaving soon anyway; no point being held up by an argument where there would be no victor.
“The rivers are dangerous this time of year and you know it. What are you going to gain from bringing her with you? Valuable experience from being in life threatening situations?”
“Hey!”
He barked, jerking around and narrowing his eyes at her.
“I was also going to take her to some of the shrines. Cut me a little slack here Lina, I’m not total moron!”
She stared back at him, completely incredulous, as if asking herself how this little detour would solve any of the issues facing their young clan leader. She turned away and started making her way back out of his cavern with a derisive snort.
“Whatever Gaeric, but if there’s a single hair on her head missing, I swear to Sinnoh above, I’ll leave nothing left of you but catfish food.”
This only earned her a scoff. The bag securely in place, Gaeric clambered through the hole and into the water. A short distance away, Irida was chasing after some fish, but it was like she had no real interest in it. Something in her movements seemed sluggish and preoccupied. The contents of her thoughts were not too hard to figure out. He didn’t say a word. Irida saw him coming her and stopped, Gaeric placed a hand to her back and steered her in the right direction.

Do feral (or even wild) Pokemon celebrate any holidays, or equivalent? I've heard tales of haunted houses whose Ghost-type residents eschew bread for matzo in the illusory meals to capture travelers during Passover, but I suspect it may be more fiction than fact.
This is an excellent and fascinating question—both in a straightforward sense and the sense that this is absolutely a point of scientific curiosity.
The answer is: it depends on the pokémon.
When it comes to pokémon that have had exposure to humans or have human-like intelligence, they do indeed seem to celebrate holidays. I mean this on a number of different levels:
1. Completely wild humanoid or high-sapience pokémon seem to create rudimentary societies of their own, complete with celebrations and festivals. (Clefairy are particularly famous for this, as wild courts are often spotted engaging in elaborate social gatherings on Monday nights, the nights of full moons, and the equinoxes and solstices. Many of these clefairy holidays revolve around the moon or moon stones, but a lot of them still remain a mystery to researchers.)
2. Formerly trained pokémon may continue holidays and traditions if they're released in the wild for one reason or another, particularly those that possess human-like intelligence and/or were close to their owners before release and especially if they had participated in celebrations prior to release themselves. Ghost-types like the ones you're describing are known for this sort of behavior; they tend to remain in the homes of their owners and continue on their traditions long after their owners, ah, pass on, as it were.
3. More nefariously, yes, some formerly trained pokémon with human-like intelligence may use the traditions they've learned from human exposure to lure in weary travelers. Why is . . . perhaps left unsaid.
4. Urban feral and wild pokémon can sometimes pick up on traditions followed by the humans they coexist with. In some cases (such as with feral/wild high-sapience pokémon in urban spaces), these traditions can either be picked up alongside a pokémon's own, or they can meld with them. (For example, the feral clefairy courts of Galar apparently celebrate Halloween-like versions of their autumnal equinox celebrations, complete with donning elaborate "costumes" of feathers, flowers, and berry-based paints and gifting their youngest members berries and apples.) In many cases, it's not all that clear whether or not the pokémon in question understand the traditions they're following or adopting.
Meanwhile, pokémon that have had less exposure to humans and don't seem to possess sapience are not known to celebrate holidays of their own. Even if they're introduced to humans and included in human holidays, they don't seem to take to the concept themselves. They do, however, gain an awareness that there should be something happening on certain times of the year. (For example, an eevee that's been included in Unovan Thanksgiving will start to understand that humans tend to put together massive feasts right before winter sets in.)
In short, actually, your story about ghost-types favoring matzo during certain times of the year may not be entirely far from the truth, though I admit I haven't heard of specific cases of this myself.

First Lines Meme
Via @curator-on-ao3:
Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line.
Tagged by @squad51goals - thanks a bunch, I absolutely love getting tagged for stuff like this!!
(also, I ended up tossing everything in there I could find that was either posted somewhere or even remotely finished, lol)
All fics aside from #8 are various degrees of sfw, by the way.
First off, the Emergency! fics:
1) Catnap Their last run had been, to put it mildly, a little unnecessary.
2) Dog Days Johnny was furious at himself. For days he hadn’t been able to sleep, and now that they were having a fairly busy day, he couldn’t seem to stay awake.
3) Home It was winter, late evening and rainy, and the street lamps were throwing rhythmical glimpses of light into the darkness of the cab.
4) Priorities Life at Station 51 taught one to expect the unexpected, if not for Chet’s constant pranks, then thanks to Johnny’s uncanny ability to make any day far more interesting than it really had to be.
5) Callback The second Mike Stoker realized that the first few hours of his shift had been uncommonly pleasant and quiet, he should’ve known he was fucked.
6) Burned Bridges Mike Stoker considered himself a patient man, and he’d never been prone to impulsiveness or ill-advised, rash decisions - at least until the day he’d found Hank Stanley huddled in his office looking like he’d seen a ghost - or become one himself - after his latest encounter with one Chief McConnike.
7) Vital Equipment One autumn morning, Roy arrived to his shift to no Johnny in the locker room and weird, muffled noises coming from the squad.
8) In The Heat Of The Night (nsfw) In retrospect, Roy figured there was no way a business trip to San Francisco together with Johnny could ever have gone as planned - but he definitely hadn’t expected the whole thing to go sideways the moment they stepped into their hotel room, of all things.
Then - a rare glimpse of non-E! stuff on here - the assorted fanfics:
9) An Equinox In Space (Star Trek AU for an original project, using all-original characters)  “Our latest one-week patrol around the Sol system was made uncommonly exciting by two engine failures, one barely-avoided warp core breach after an unfortunate collision with a very small asteroid, a ship-wide failure of all sanitary facilities, and every single replicator only serving Gagh for an entire earth day for reasons as of yet unknown.“
10) Engineering Malfunctions (A oneshot for the above-mentioned Star Trek AU for my original project. Link goes to Google Docs because I never actually cleaned it up and posted it anywhere but it’s cute so whatever) Three days after the malfunction in main engineering, the situation was still critical, and they were still coasting along at impulse speed, kept going by nothing but momentum.
11) At the Drop of a Hat (random oneshot for a Pokemon highschool AU I originally wrote as a 12-year-old; don’t judge) Wallace of Sootopolis, most esteemed Champ of the Hoenn region, Contest Master (and, somewhat less glamorously, teacher), sat on a bar stool at the counter of his favorite bar, idly dragging his fingers across the rim of his glass and glancing over to the entrance of the cozy little establishment every now and then.
Aaand the all-original stuff:
12) Untitled (Modern AU of the same original project as Equinox in Space) Professor Absalom Hayes had looked forward to going to bed at a reasonable time for once.
13) Things that go Bump in the Night (oneshot for my urban fantasy story “Death of a Midnight Snack”) It was the darkest night I’d ever seen. Pitch black, without a single star in the inky sky. Just the dimly yellow glow of a dying street lamp in the distance.
14) The Lich’s Lair (oneshot for DOAMS again) Imagine a forest, if you will. Just a boring old forest. Not all that dark or all that scary, no dangerous animals, the kind of place you'd walk your dogs on a rainy Saturday morning.
Conclusions: I like starting off (or at least I’m trying to start off) my stories with a sort of one-two punch, where the first line is some kind of set up and the second follows through with... something. Makes the “first line” stipulation here a wee bit unfortunate, lol. Also, a lot of them are “a character does or thinks something”, or location descriptions of some kind. I very rarely start with dialogue (though I have done it before) - even that Equinox tidbit is in quotes for log entry reasons, not because it’s said to someone in particular.
Favorite: Oof. Honestly? Probably An Equinox In Space, which is funny because the actual story as it stands is really just a hot mess, even though I’ve written some pretty cool one-shots for it. Most of my favorite stories are E! fics, but those really only come alive in the second or third line. The first line of Callback does stand on its own pretty well, though...
Tagging: Normally I’d be tagging Hitch now but I know she was already tagged... uh. So I know @madilayn writes. @evilsilenc3 too, iirc? I know for a fact that more of y’all write, but I’m totally blanking on everybody’s URL’s right now, even after a solid 15 minutes of trying to remember - so if you like getting tagged and you have anything at all you could use for this, you’re hereby officially tagged. Please pretend I pinged you, I’m just really really bad with names.

Zuko of the Pokemon - 2
Zuko of the Pokémon is my Avatar the Last Airbender Pokémon Crossover Fusion and this is part of my worldbuilding/setting rules.
People attract the sort of Pokemon they can Bond with and the nature of both your Chi and your Pokémon’s Chi heavily effects your chances of Bonding. Personality-Type Pokémon have Chi that interacts neutrally with everyone’s Chi. All other Pokémon-Types interact positively with 1 Element Alignment and negatively with the other 4 Element Alignments.
Type-Matches only take a moment to form, non-Type-Matches can take years. Any Firebender could reach out and Call for a Pokémon and expect a Fire Type or even an Electric Type to appear. It would take much longer, years of gentle coaxing and familiarisation, for a Firebender to Bond with a Water-Type Pokémon.
A Pure Match-Type is the easiest to Bond and it is what most people Call instinctively, it can happen in a matter of seconds as a Pokémon’s Chi accepts yours.
A Mixed Match-Type is a little harder to Bond, where a Duel Type Pokemon has one of their Types Match your Element and the other that doesn’t. There are varieties of Mixed Match-Types, the Personality Mixed Match-Type which is relatively easy and the Cross Mixed Match-Type which is fairly hard.
A Personality-Type is medium difficulty to Bond, which are Pokémon Types that don’t Match to any Element and are generally neutral to your Chi. Personality-Types generally Bond around the Spring and Autumn Equinoxes.
A Pure Cross-Type is the hardest Bond to achieve because it involves a Chi-Bond between two sets of Chi that are naturally opposed to each other. All Elements have two Corresponding Types and find it very difficult to Bond with a Type from another Element. Hardest is the Duel Cross-Type because you have to deal with two opposing Types. Mixed Cross Match-Type are easiest because one Type opposes and the other invites. Mixed Personality Cross Types are easier than a pure Cross-Type because half the Chi is neutral but still very hard.
Generally a person’s first Pokémon is a Type-Match and their second Pokémon is a Personality-Match, but this is just an average not a rule.

ALL THIRTY OF MY ENTRIES FOR FAKEATHON 2020 COMPILED BELOW THE CUT
Tumblr media
ROUND 1: HOMETOWN MONUMONK - Derived from monument, monk
did you know I like maybe four miles away from a field of 109 identical 7 foot corn statues
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON ROUND 2: THE USA ROBINOX - Derived from robin, autumnal equinox
Round one was our hometown, and I did my current city. But my childhood belongs to Connecticut, so I wanted to do a connecticuter. The american robin is the state bird of Connecticut, and as a part of New England it has a colonial history, hence the style. A type of garnet is the state gemstone, hence the species name.
Mostly though, I associate Connecticut with the vibrant autumns. The falls of New England are magic.
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 3: CANADA CURTLE - Derived from curling, turtle
Very simple this one. Canada has a lot of curling events, right? Put the CURLING STONE. On the TURTLE. and you get the CURTLE. Dudes in this other server I’m in really love this one
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 4: MEXICO CASOLURO - Derived from first two letters of the cards it’s based on; el CAtrin, el SOl, la LUna, la ROsa
A very fun one to work on. These are based on those Loteria cards - Specifically, the sun, moon, rose, and the dandy. The 4x4 grid on the inside of its cape is a reference to the 4x4 grid of a loteria play mat. Just threw crap at the wall here and got this funky friend.
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 5: BRAZIL CAPYERA, CAPOBARA - Derived from capoeira, capybara
Not new designs, so much as designs I really needed to give another go. Much happier with these. And frankly, couldn’t think of a concept more wholly Brazilian short of slapping the flag on them.
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 6: FRANCE CHÈVAÇAY - Derived from chèvre (French for goat), Chevalier (French for knight), valençay (French variety of cheese)
F🥐R🎨A🍷N🚬C🥖H
I stole the grease type from someone in that fakemon server it fit this cheesy boy too well
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 7: SPAIN POMEGRIA - Derived from pomegranate, bandurria
Typically tried to avoid the lady-in-dress motif, but felt too justified here. Spain is home to pomegranates, with the blossom being the national flower. The body shape was inspired by the instrument the bandurria, with the base of the body being a halved pomegranate, and her “earrings” being both the tuning pegs and pomegranate seeds.
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 8: UNITED KINGDOM MEMORI - Derived from memento mori, memory
I could’ve uh. Had this idea at a better time huh :^)
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 9: ITALY MEDITIVE - Derived from Mediterranean, olive
Tried going more off-the-wall, but it didn’t quite work. Based on olive branches clearly - olive oil was often used as lamp oil, hence the fire typing. I meant for it to resemble a nuns habit or monastery robes, a la Italy’s heavy catholicism, with the floating olive leaf circlet as a halo. It was… good ideas that didn’t come together perfectly. Probably my least favorite of the lot
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 10: NORDICS MINKJAVIC - Derived from mink, Reykjavik
Look when I think Iceland I always think black metal. This is the second time I’ve done a heavy metal pokemon. The first one was more badass. This one’s instead uh A lot : )
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 11: EGYPT DJEDLY - Derived from Djed, deadly
One of the easiest to draw for… obvious reasons. Based on a canopic jar, sort of like an off-brand yamask or cofagrigus. It’s meant to open up twice; If you take off the lid, you see the fleshy eyeball dude in the lower corner. And if you pull that like a handle, you see what’s inside… and die with that knowledge : )
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 12: ETHIOPIA CAFFIEND - Derived from caffeine, fiend
Obviously hyenas live in Ethiopa. But moreover, Ethiopia is also known as pretty much the birthplace of coffee, and coffee drinking/making is important to the culture. So I thought, why not make a hyena that’s super happy cause it’s always super hyped up on caffeine? Dunno if the electric typing makes much sense, I just thought caffeine = energy = electricity
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 13: MADAGASCAR TENROCK - Derived from tenrec, rock
Tenrecs are endemic, yeah, but this wasn’t just based on a native animal. It was based on the land of Madagascar - specifically, the gorgeous and incredibly sharp structures of Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park. I’ll post a photo above the art, when I saw Madagascar was a theme day I knew I had to base something on that park.
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 14: SAUDI ARABIA MASQAREEN - Derived from masquerade, Qareen
This is based on the Islamic idea of the Qareen. People don’t 100% agree on what Qareens are, but they are consistantly considered to be spiritual doubles - Every person has a Qareen associated with they’re spirit. This is based on one idea, them as dark spirits who attempt to lead their companion-spirit astray. I chose them because even though they’re evil from the start - hence the dark typing - they can become good based on their companion - in this case, trainer’s - actions and whims.
Since they’re counterparts to humans, I thought having them mimic humans would be fitting. It’s body is ALMOST humanoid, it’s many pink extremeties ALMOST resemble clothes. It would be a zoroark like situation, where it could make illusions to resemble human.
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 15: RUSSIA MATEESHKA - Derived from mastryoshka, tea SAMOSHKA - Derived from samovar, matryoshka
Fun fact, I actually used to collect matryoshka dolls. Have a whole box of them in the basement somewhere. So I felt I had to. I have a thing for designs that look a little snobby, Samoshka certainly fits that little niche of mine : D
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 16: INDIA BOVIQUIN - Derived from bovine, palanquin
I like ride pokemon, and I like customizable pokemon. So I made one that’s both! It’s supposed to be based on the water buffalo. The simple colors are because it’s supposed to be customizable - As in, the fabrics hung from it (and maybe the markings painted on it) could be swapped out, so I wanted something simple as a base. Sort of like Furfrou, but the customization doesn’t wear off
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 17: CHINA LONGRUSH - Derived from Long (chinese for dragon), brush, rush
I expect here will be a lot of chinese dragons this round, I wanted to avoid the obvious. But… this is one of the best concepts I’ve ever come up with. The second I had the mental image, I knew that was it
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 18: JAPAN SPIROUS - Derived from spirit, cirrus, pious
This is a myth from both China and Japan, but I associate it with yokai primarily. This is based on Hangonkō, incense that brings forth the spirits of the dead. Hence it’s body obscured by the clouds - It’s literally being summoned by the incense it carries. In retrospect, this could have been an interesting pokeball mimic with different colors.
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 19: INDONESIA WHALEEN - Derived from baleen whale
The Philippines are home to the coral triangle, a stretch of ocean  that’s home to a stupidly large amount of coral life. So I initially  wanted a coral mon… but it’s known for its reefs. So why not make the  whole reef?
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 20: AUSTRALIA OPALINE - Derived from opal, mine
One town in Australia I’ve loved since middle school is Coober Pedy. Known as the opal capital of the world, it’s a desert town that’s so hot, almost all the residents live in houses carved into the ground. Even many businesses and hotels are underground! Coloring was fun on this dude :3
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 21: ANTARCTICA SOUTHAIR - derived from south, hairgrass.
I wanted to do something unexpected. So rather than do that obvious penguin or similar, I went with southern hairgrass, the south most flowering plant. Did it’s closer meant to loosely resemble any wet clothes, but since there are no Inuit populations to Antarctica, only loosely. It’s species, the 1000-to-1 pokemon, Refers to both its chances of survival and the fact of the body is comprised of many many blades of grass
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 22: SOMEWHERE HOT - DEATH VALLEY HELINDRA - Derived from helios, indra
The reason I chose the Indra butterfly is because it's native to death valley. I figure, if death valley gets HELLA sun, why not instead of it living in spite of the harsh sun, living so well because of it?
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 23: SOMEWHERE COLD - GREENLAND STUFFIN - Derived from storm, stun, puffin
I know there are myths that say puffins can bring thunderstorms, so I thought why not turn a puffin into a storm cloud? But uh. It kind of just. Is a puffin isn't it :/
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 24: ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS KYTHURA - Derived from Antikythera, Urania
One of my favorite remnants of ancient times is the Antikythera Mechanism. It was an ancient Greek computer. With proper gears and mechanics and everything, that was used to plot the locations of the planets and the stars in stunning detail. This first go around turned out… not that great, I’ll be honest. But I wanna do something with the Antikythera Mechanism. It shouldn’t take TOO much tweaking to make this something I love
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 25: FUTURE WORLDS COCOWATT - Derived from coconut, watt
One of my favorite images of the future is, instead of all streets having street lights, some having bioluminescent trees! I wanted to make something to that effect. Even though we have Exeggutor I chose palm trees cause they already have a street-lamp-like shape. Finally got to bust out my super neon pencils :3
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 26: RANDOM COUNTRY - IRELAND AMANEELIE - Derived from amanita, unseelie
I have irish blood, so I wanted to do an irish mon. I took the idea of the fairie ring in a weird direction - when it extends its arms and the little purple "hands" touch, anything in the loop of its arm - the fairie's ring - will become hideously poisoned. Visually referenced the deathcap. Just like imagining these things in a secluded dense forest, floating along like swimming jellyfish
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 27: THE OLYMPICS SYNCRA - Derived from synchronized, tetra
This is similar to wishiwashi, in that it's a schooling mon. But instead of it having a schooling form, it's ALWAYS in a school of five fish, constantly swimming in unison. Clearly based on synchronized swimming, I wanted the tails to be super long, so they'd flow all elegantly when they maneuver around. Kinda... power rangers in execution, innit
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 28: THE OCEAN EXPLORB - Derived from explore, orb
The idea to turn the bathysphere into a pufferfish-like dude just came together really clearly in my head. I imagine their attack would be terrible but their defence would be amazing - basically, they aren't out to fight, they just wanna explore the oceans :3
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 29: THE MOON MOOMOON - Derived from moomoo, moon
its the cow that jumped over the moon
Tumblr media
FAKEATHON DAY 30: LEGENDARY CORRA - Derived from core, cor (latin for heart), terra
I figured, we’ve done every part of the earth this challenge… except the interior. So for the legendary representing the world, I based mine on the core of the earth. The body itself is meant to resemble the phylotypic stage of an embryo - the stage of development where most species are virtually identical. It cannot leave its lava bubble. At the center of its body is a heart glowing with all the colors of magma.
The FIRST person to make a legend of korra joke is getting slapped

Red Spider-Lillies (Lycoris radiata)
So check this out; Red Spider-Lillies (aka red magic lily/equinox flower/hurricane lily/resurrection lily/corpse flower) have cultural significance in the far east as symbols of loss and separation.
Tumblr media
They are native to central asia and bloom in summer/autumn with good rain, but only retain their bright red luster for a short time before fading to a more muted pink.  Although they can grow in a variety of locales, they are commonly associated with rivers and with cemeteries. Their bulbs are potently toxic and were commonly used to keep wild animals from digging up crops and corpses.
They are also associated and named Higan-bana:“OtherBank-Flower” after the Japanese holiday of Higan[彼岸], a celebration of the dead.  The name “other bank” refers to the mythological river Sanzu, which divides the worlds of the living from the dead.  Although Higan is a Buddhist holiday, it is also curiously a Japanese exclusive one, not having any real equivalent in Chinese or Indian practices.  The associations however do trace back to core Buddhist texts, where its red color links it to a mythical flower in the underworld.
Some folklore spefically says that the flowers bloom along the path where two people are destined to meet for the last time before never seeing one another again, often with implications of death. Others, that they trace the path to the underworld.  In China a myth tells of two spirits that embody the petals and leaves of the flower, but because the leaves and blossoms grow out of sync, the two spirits never see one another, but meet in death.  They promise to find one another after reincarnation, but tragically never do, meeting again only in the underworld in between reincarnations for eternity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All in all they are really neat and a very common icon of the season and of themes of death, separation, and rebirth. But the culture gap around them is almost startlingly wide. The Japanese understanding of the symbol is ubiquitous, but entirely obscure in the west, which makes otherwise loud and clear constructions of a scene read muted to an ignorant audience.
One of my personal favorite uses is in Makoto Shinkai's movie, The Children Who Chase Lost Voices From Deep Below. In it the spider lily appears with a black butterfly(another iconic psychopomp) along a mountain path as the main character races to meet her crush. As she passes it, she startles the butterfly into flying off, a poetic kind of illustration of the soul departing. The boy she is going to meet is of course not there, and she ventures into the underworld to see him again. But the use of highly familiar and highly legible symbolism creates a tone and mood to the scene that doesnt really work without that literacy.
Alternatively in Satoshi Kon's TV series, Paranoia Agent, that fluency is actually used as a setup for a subversion. A character is having a kind of surreal discussion with herself but also the embodiment of her escapist urges as she contemplates suicide. Outside her back door spider-lillies are in bloom. As the spectre grows literally bigger and stronger as she reviews all the reasons she would want to die, she turns the discussion around, finally ending with, "I've decided to have the operation." At which point the heads of the flowers drop off their stems.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But if we're being honest they are usually used mich less tactfully. Downright tacky in fact. Scenes of ghosts or death obsessed characters surrounded by spider lillies in a kinda of excessive, aesthetically decadent way are actually pretty common.  But when a scene already very loudly establishes death as a subject, the use of something like symbols loses all subtlety, and doesn’t really communicate anything effectively at all as it’s being talked over.
But I'll tell you where I didn't expect to see this used with tact and grace and nuance...
Pokémon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah. In Pokemon OmegaRuby & AlphaSapphire, Victory Road's final room is a field of red spider lillies before a bridge over a river that leads out of the cave and out to the Elite 4 building. More over, it is where you encounter your rival Wally for the last time in the core plot.  If youre not familiar, Wally's whole thing is that he suffers a nondescript illness.  He gets his first Pokémon from your father, and fights you once before promising to fight you again some day.  So when you do see him again it’s on the “other bank” of the river sanzu, in the underworld, surrounded by red spider-lilies.  He talks about you keeping your promise together, and he talks about giving you something to remember him by...
I bet you must be surprised to see me in a place like this! That promise that we made back then… Thank you for keeping your end of it.
…But I won't give up! I won't lose anymore. My Pokémon have given me the courage and strength to fight. I have to win for their sake!
I'll give you this to keep. I hope it will always remind you of your battle with me…
I'll stay here and continue training. And one day… Look out! I swear I'll catch up to you one day! When I do, promise we'll battle again! That's a promise I intend to live up to!
Knowing the pieces that make up this scene, this is a really loud and clear kind of artistic statement:  Wally is dying of his illness.  His rivalry with you, and training his pokemon, is what’s giving him a reason to live.  He’s trying to literally leave a symbolic underworld, and he’s going to stay there until he’s strong enough to leave.  You meet for the last time where the red spider-lilies grow.  He promises to see you on the other side,  but all his rematches are in the same place.  So. just like the myth of the spirits of the flower, you’ll never see Wally in the outside world ever again, only in the underworld.

Team Equinox Admin Number Three Prompt Poll, Part 2
These two prompts were the only prompts in the poll that had votes (9 votes and 5 votes respectively), so we narrowed it down to those two options:
The Admin who hates the winter: a middle aged woman who wears thermals and a large coat. She dislikes seeing living things suffer in the cold, and feels that eradicating the seasons would benefit humans and Pokemon.
A girl who struggles to hide her excitement around other Team Admins that the idea of everything being the same and “boring” actually excites her. She loves that ideal world and is always smiling thinking abut it. Peppy personality. Only drops energy when she loses to you because she thinks its unfair that you two didn’t use the same Pokemon. She hates autumn and drastic change between seasons.
What gets your vote?
