Shiny Hunting with the Synchro Machine: The "Herding" Method
WARNING: the Synchro mechanics WILL autobattle and KO a shiny pokemon! Please read this guide thoroughly and carefully check your gameplay while hunting!
Big news all across the shiny hunting stratosphere: The Synchro Machine mechanics actually suck for shiny hunters??? Due to the lack of shiny indicators and now outright massacre of shiny pokemon through the Synchro Machine's auto battle feature that KOs shiny pokemon without even so much as a wail, many people are being warned about the dangers of straying too far from your physical body while using this mechanic! But thanks to a guide on Reddit, we have a strategy for using the Synchro Machine to actually speed along shiny hunting mass outbreaks in the Blueberry Academy Terrarium! Please note that this method does not apply any odds rate increases, it just simply makes the encounters run more faster and is just a cool neat little way to shiny hunt. Here's how it works:
💜 Unlocking the Synchro Machine:
🟣 Speak to Synclaire at the Terrarium Central Plaza. She is the scientist first found standing beside the Pokeportal area.
🟣 After speaking to her she moves to the bottom corner of the Central Plaza near the entrance to a secluded beach in the Coastal Biome.
🟣 Talk to her twice to unlock all the features of the Synchro Machine.
🟣 After testing the Machine twice she then gives it to you for free use.
💜 Synchro Machine mechanics:
🟣 Press and hold the L button while also pressing the R button to start the Synchro Machine
🟣 You will then be synched to your lead Pokemon, much like Auto Battle
🟣 While you are synced, your physical body stays still while you are now moving and interacting as your lead Pokemon
🟣 This means, if you wander too far from your body then any Pokemon you encounter along the way will despawn once you end the Sync
🟣 You can pickup items (A), fight auto battles (Y, also by directly approaching), dash (press the left analog stick down), and fly (B, B again to land) as your pokemon.
🟣 Your pokemon will auto battle any Pokemon you "run in to"- meaning if you get too close to the Pokemon, or if a Pokemon charges at you, you will automatically attack-- and KO-- even shiny Pokemon
🟣 Sync will automatically end if your pokemon touches water and it cannot swim
🟣 Press and hold L while also holding R to manually end the sync
🟣 Please remember this mechanic only works in the Blueberry Terrarium
💜 Shiny Hunting: what is "Herding"?
Some players have found an interesting work around for this shiny despawning debacle. Here's how it works:
🟣 While you are synced with a higher evolved Pokemon, most lower & second stage Pokemon will run away from you out of fear
🟣 Using this mechanic we can sort of "herd" or "push" lower stage Pokemon across short distances
🟣 This works out so that if you encounter a shiny you can "herd" it a short distance back to your physical body so that it won't despawn
🟣 BE CAREFUL NOT TO RUN INTO THEM OR LET THEM GET TOO CLOSE-- AUTO BATTLE WILL KO SHINIES.
🟣 The trick is to keep your distance and have a little patience in using your Pokemon to cover the direction opposite of where you want to herd them
🟣 This is why it is recommended to sync near the outbreak so your body will not be too far away
🟣 While synced you can also "herd" the extra Pokemon out of the way to clear encounters much faster, though auto battling is also much easier while synced as well
🟣 Once you end the sync the shiny will be there for you to battle and catch like normal
🟣 Any sandwiches made before syncing are still active during the sync. So you can totally cook up some Sparkling Power lv 3 Herba Mystica sandwiches (we have a guide for sandwich recipes) and combine this with mass outbreaks and use the sync machine to have a little fun while you hunt!
So there you have it, a neat little way to hunt some mass outbreaks in the Terrarium! What do you guys think of this method? Would you use it?

I made another spreadsheet for fun! This has information on weather each Pokemon in the Paldea Dex can learn a damaging move for each type. I made it so see if specific Terra Types are useful for specific Pokemon. Let me know if you see any issues!

It's so fitting that Amethio was present when Liko's Nyahoja evolved given that he's been involved in most of Liko's important steps as a trainer so far.
He is the reason Liko's pendant activated its powers for the first time in the series (when it had been dormant for decades before that point) which made Liko want to know more about its mysteries, Nyahoja managed to use her Leafage at full power against him back in HZ002 (and with her backstory from HZ040 in perspective, it was significant that Nyahoja stopped holding back at that moment).. Their narratives kept being intertwined every step of the way, Liko catching her first Pokemon and deciding the kind of trainer she wants to be in HZ021 was immediately followed by Amethio being woven back into the story and appearing in contrast.
In fact, Liko wanting to become stronger in the first place was in relation to Amethio, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Liko specifically brought up Amethio in HZ007 and the fact that not being able to do anything against him left her frustrated (in comparison, Roy's motivations were tied to Rayquaza). She learned that feeling of frustration for the first time because of him, which gave her the resolve to grow stronger.
Even now at the end of the first year, Amethio is still acting as a source of motivation of sorts to Liko, albeit differently.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Liko asks Friede how they can use Terastal, and Roy brings up that Lizardon was amazing, to which Liko adds that Amethio's Soublades was amazing too! She thinks of Soublades positively and was impacted by the experience, and may see it as a kind of inspiration.
Amethio went from someone Liko couldn't trust, to someone she can thank and maybe consider as someone she wants to reach too. I wonder if Amethio will be involved somehow if Nyarote evolves in Masquernya in the future.

Public Sylveon Announcement
So. It's Pride Month, and the Sylveon are out in droves, being the icons we all want them to be (they adore the attention). During this time, you may be tempted to catch one of these goobers, or perhaps be chosen by one, to raise and train as your own. That's great! As a trainer of a Sylveon for a whole decade, I'm intimately familiar with the ins and outs of this particular Eeveelution and will be glad to share some advice!
Without further ado, here's how you care for a newly caught Sylveon!
0: Don't.
Get yourself an Eevee, and earn your Sylveon.
Understand I'm not saying this with spite, this is genuinely a word of caution, a warning, if you will. Aside from the fact that catching a Sylveon during Pride is almost certainly an "impulse catch" that you may well not be ready to commit to, stop to consider for a moment just how Sylveon evolve. They require affection. Love. A step above "mere" friendship. They require a genuine connection to another that sparks perhaps one of the most unique and precious evolutions known to all 'mon. Straight up catching/adopting one not only skips that entire, critical step, but also more-than-likely deeply implies that the Sylveon you're catching/adopting had that connection and, one way or another has lost it.
We call this baggage and a lot of people aren't ready to deal with it. You could be inadvertently taking in a 'mon with separation anxiety, depression, nightmares and high stress, imposter syndrome, and more.
Start with an Eevee (A child of a Sylveon if at all possible ;D), and evolve it with a healthy baseline into a Sylveon, you'll both be much happier.
"But what if the Sylveon chose me and isn't leaving?"/"I'm aware of the risks, but want to commit to this anyway."
Well, dear reader, keep reading!
1: Be ready for touch.
Sylveon are titled "The Intertwining Pokemon" for a reason. They adore touch. They're hardwired to seek it. Quite literally my own Sylveon is sitting under my desk as I type this, with his feeler wrapped around my leg. It's his favorite place to be that isn't also in my bed. Their feelers can be off putting to a lot of people, especially after one realizes they're flesh and fur, but do not recoil from it, you'll break the poor bab's heart. Touch is how they explore and how they get a read on you and other pokemon (it's also how they lull prey into a false sense of security before they go for the throat, more on that later). Do not touch starve your Sylveon. For a blessing, their feelers are velvety soft and feel wonderful, at least, to most people. If you have other Pokemon, encourage them to get used to the feelers as well. I have a Zoroark on my team, and, though it took a while, he doesn't recoil at Vivi's feelers and lets him explore.
This all goes double for cuddles. Sylveon are perhaps the absolute worst of the Eeveelutions that still believe they're a lap Eevee once they evolve. A lot of trainers will try and tell you to discourage such behavior, since it will encourage them to pounce on other people, but, in my experience, Sylveon are rather adept at knowing who to not pounce on. As long as you're the primary pounce person, your Sylveon will seldom jump on other people that it doesn't consider a friend and knows not to pounce on.
2: Be ready for high-maintenance.
Sylveon (most of them, at least) are spoiled brats in one way or another. It's a common "trap" most trainers fall into when raising one, a lot of the ways you can show one affection as an eevee is to go above and beyond for it in one way or another, and they will get used to that. My Sylveon, as an example, loves baths, and practically requires one daily. Other Sylveon may require a battle on the weekly, or high quality food, or long, scenic walks, or, Arc-save-you, all of the above. They're a very high-energy, high-maintenance Eeveelution, beaten out only by Jolteon.
3: Be ready for noise.
Oh they YELL. Sylveon are talkative little buggers, and the moment something goes amiss they will cry about it. If they're having fun they will cry about it. If they're bored they will cry about it. If they know Hyper Voice, Lord-in-heaven they will cry about it. You can train one to be quiet on demand, but use such commands sparingly, as frequently telling them to "quiet down" will make one start to question if you're mad at it or appreciate it. Which leads us to-
4: Temper your emotions.
Another aspect about Sylveon is they use their feelers to channel a calming Fairy-type energy that quite literally reads your emotions and dulls hostility. This makes them great therapy Pokemon, as it makes it damn near impossible to be mad if one's around, and great hunters, as it makes it damn near impossible to fear for your life when it goes in for the kill! It also, perhaps frustratingly, makes it damn near impossible to be mad at them if they misbehave. And they're a fairy-type, they will misbehave at some point. All a Sylveon wants to feel is love and joy, understandably, but other emotions exist for a reason, and both you and your Sylveon will have to learn to channel and process those emotions in a healthy, controlled manner, as this will reliably get the both of you back to feeling the love and joy you're likely seeking. This process is different for everyone, and Arc-knows I'm far from a licensed therapist, but it's still important to learn how to figure out anger and sorrow with a Sylveon around, and the both of you will need to train yourselves to work through your feelings.
5: Be ready to play.
I'm lucky, I have other mons that'll be playmates for Vivi at the drop of a hat. But one thing I've observed with Sylveon as a whole is that they all need playtime and playmates, and if you don't have other Pokemon that can be your Sylveon's playmate, guess what, bud - that means you're the playmate! Even if you do have other mons you are still a valid playmate!
Buy toys.
Squeaky toys, tug-ropes, ribbons, balls, feathers, and dolls are all fantastic toys for your Sylveon, and if one brings a toy to you, you'd best engage, unless you want an express example of lesson 3. Thankfully, most Sylveon are happy with short and quick play sessions. My own is happy with maybe three rounds of fetch or a brief tug-o-war session before it'll go back to happily cuddling up next to me, but all Sylveon are different in varous ways. Trust your instincts and you'll be able to easily tell when your Sylveon is content.
6: They are smart.
Sylveon are beat out only by Espeon in the overall intelligence category. Being mostly modern/urban life adapted Pokemon that usually spend all their lives around humans, they pick up pretty quickly on language, social cues, tools, and so on. Intelligence is always a wavering factor among all Pokemon, but, on the whole, expect your Sylveon to be far more clever than your average Growlithe or Yamper, and respect that intelligence. It may not ever speak Galarian to you, but it could very well learn to read, open doors, work a TV remote or even keyboard, steal your phone, visit and buy from stores, and so on.
---
And there we have it! Past all this, all the standard methods for training and caring for Pokemon apply! Sylveon, on the whole, are quite amicable, and most are perfectly content to chill out and cuddle when they aren't being high-chaos gremlins. They're fantastic battlers as well, with great durability, utility, and surprising potential for damage, amplified only by the love and friendship you provide one.
Give a Sylveon love, and - capital L - Love is what you get in return.

5 Minute Guide for 5⭐ Tera Raids & Herba Mystica Hunting
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Herba Mysticas are HARD to obtain. They only drop from 5⭐+ Tera raids, and they're rare drops at that so they're not guaranteed to drop when you win the raid. And when they do drop, they only give 1 Herb at a time, 2 if you're really lucky. If you want to hunt for a good amount of Herba Mysticas then you need to be prepared to wipe out the whole map, and do it multiple times at that. The more raids you can do, the better chances you get of collecting Herbs.
5⭐+ raids can be super challenging if you're a casual player and not used to competitive gameplay. This is because 5⭐+ raid Pokemon usually have 5-6 IVs and are built with competitive movesets & annoying gimmicks that can catch you off guard. Luckily they are Terastalized which means if you can capitalize on the Tera type's weakness, you can pretty much win the match.
So, what Pokemon are the best for these harder Tera raids? Let's look into it.
Iron Hands, Azumarill, Flutter Mane, Iron Treads/Great Tusk, Slowbro, Koraidon/Miraidon. These are some of the most common builds for 5⭐+ Raids.
However, you can still win any 5⭐+ Tera raid using your standard playthrough team. And like I mentioned before, you'll want to build a good variety of mons to capitalize on the Tera type's weakness as there are many types spread out across the map.
The thing is, regardless if you're using Iron Hands or Pawmot- you'll need to get familiar with IV's & EV training to utilize the best out of your team. Thankfully these aspects are as easy as can be in Scarlet & Violet.
Stat basics
Any Pokemon you decide to use for Tera raids will need to be built. That means you'll need to consider the mechanics under the hood for the best possible outcome- natures, base stats, trained stats, and movesets. Here is a quick but detailed run down of the basics.
IV's (Inherited Values) affect your Pokemon's base stats. IVs are like saying your Pokemon has a better pedigree, a better breeding, than Pokemon caught in the wild. Wild Pokemon usually have 0-1 maxed out IVs. Outbreak & 4⭐ raid Pokemon can have 3-5 maxed out IVs if lucky. But you don't need to know the specifics anymore. Once upon a time this process was insanely cryptic. Now it's as easy as buying a bottle cap.
IVs can be maxed out individually with Bottle Caps. Bottle Caps can be bought for $20,000 Pokedollars at any Delibird Presents (Cascarrafa, Levincia, Mesagoma).
EVs (Effort Values), affect your Pokemon's stat gains. Basically, the stats you choose to train.
Individual stats can have a max of 252 EVs. Pokemon can only have 510 EVs across all 6 stats. That means we can max out 2 stats (common builds are attack/spA & speed). We can also max one stat and spread the remaining EVs across two others (common builds are max out defense/spD & invest half attack/SpA & half in HP)
These are just common builds but tbh you can EV train in a lot of ways outside of this.
EVs are increased by two methods: 1) equipping a power item i.e. power bracer & fighting certain wild Pokemon that give EVs, or 2) vitamins
The power items can be bought for $10,000 Pokedollars (each) at any Delibird Presents. There are 6 in total. Each power item increases the EV yield of a certain stat during wild pokemon battles. Auto battles do not count! You will have to Google a list of which wild pokemon to fight.
Vitamins can be bought at any Chansey Supply for $10,000 Pokedollars (each). Suffice it to say vitamins are hella expensive, but the fastest and easiest way to max out your EVs.
Maxing out a stat: 25 vitamins OR 26-28 wild battles w a power item equipped.
EV's are decreased by using the friendship berries i.e. Pomeg, Kelpsey, Qualot, etc. It might take quite a few to wipe a stat clean to 0. You can find these berries in East Areas 1 & 2.
In addition, a Pokemon's nature will also affect it's base stats.
Natures will raise one stat and lower another.
It's highly recommended to pick a nature that will increase your best stat and lower the opposing stat. For example, if your Pokemon has a higher attack vs a lower special attack, you're gonna be using physical attacks over special. You'd pick a nature that raises attack and lowers special since there is really no use for special attack.
You can change your Pokemon's nature with nature mints which can be bought at any Chansey Supply post game for $20,000 Pokedollars each.
In summary: the Pokemon on your team right now are most likely randos you picked up in the wild, so they probably have shit natures and IVs. And since you have been using them to fight random Pokemon, they are most likely full of random EVs that make no sense competitively. In short, they need to be wiped clean & built from scratch.
So how do we do that?
Step 1: decide which 2 stats you want to max- usually your 2 highest stats. Look at your pokemons stats. Which is higher, attack or special attack? Max the one thats higher. Does it have a higher speed stat compared to defense & special defense? Max the speed. If one of the defenses are higher than speed, max whichever defense is highest.
Step 2: give it a nature mint that compliments the stats you want to raise and the stats you're not using at all.
Step 3: wipe out the other stat's EVs with the friendship berries
Step 4: use vitamins or power items to max out your 2 stats
Step 5: bottle cap the IVs by Hyper Training in Montenevera (there's an NPC by the Pokecenter. Use rare candies or exp candies to get to lv 50-100)
Now you've gone from casual to built, but we're not entirely done yet.
What's in a moveset?
The last part comes in picking out a moveset. This is where Tera raids differ from the competitive scene because unlike pvp battles, in Tera raids youre going up against a gimmick. On top of the low health energy shield which makes your attacks eat dirt, raid Pokemon can also have some of the most annoying movesets in the game. AND you're on a timer. Let's talk strategy.
Swords Dance/Bulk Up/Calm Mind/Nasty Plot
So you've built up your playthrough team but your attacks still just don't seem to hit hard enough? Chances are your Pokemon can learn one of these moves: Swords Dance, Bulk Up, Calm Mind, Nasty Plot, Dragon Dance. All of which can be made as TMs. These moves will buff your attack/special attack stats, and some like Bulk Up and Calm Mind will also buff your defense/ special defense as well. You can hit pretty hard after 2-3 of these buffs. If you're using a playthrough team this strategy is highly recommended.
Belly Drum
Belly Drum is another attack boosting move and works best on Pokemon like Iron Hands and Azumarill. Belly Drum will also reduce your HP so some players compliment this strategy with the held item Leftovers or a Sitrus Berry.
Iron Defense, Snarl, & Screech
Another commonly used support strategy is to target the raid Pokemon's attack & defense to help other players hit harder. Screech works really well here to lower the raid pkmn's defense.
Taunt
Some raid Pokemon are obnoxious because they use status moves like thunder wave or spore. Having Taunt on hand can be useful for these assholes.
Other moves & strategies
These are just a select few that I have noticed from my time doing raids so far. There are some individual strategies I have noted as well like Tinkaton using swords dance in between gigaton hammers. There are healing strategies like Slack Off/Wish. There's Helping Hand which will boost an ally's attack. For a basic moveset I'd recommend searching Smogon to see what they suggest, though it's important to say once again that raid battles are built differently from pvp and that's something you'll have to explore as you go. It's also important to stress that held items can go a long way as well. Focus sash, white herb, punching glove, leftovers, there are a lot of items that can help you get the edge on your Tera raid battle.
Cheering: When to cheer & which cheers to use
Please for the love of God, use your cheers people. If you're playing online there are a few cheer strategies that can help you & everyone else at the right moments.
Defense Cheers:
- right at the beginning to give a boost to fragile Pokemon on the field
Attack Cheers:
- right at the beginning to help people trying to set up attack buffs
- right after the raid Pokemon has negated stat changes on your allies
- right after the raid Pokemon raises it's energy shield
Healing Cheers:
- mid battle when you & your allies are low health
- if you notice you or an ally has Terastalized and has low HP
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
And that's it! That's pretty much all you need to know to get started tackling those 5⭐ raids! The rest comes in trial & error and help from online randos, so do us a favor and boost this post so we can help more people out!
Keep battling, trainers!! Eventually you'll get your hands on those Herba Mysticas!
[there may be updates to this post! Stay tuned for more info]

What's in a Name, a short Pokemon Mystery Dunegon: Explorers of Sky comic featuring team North Star!
an exploration on the power of a name, and a lampshade on how characters can tell the difference between two pokemon of the exact same species
(to be named is to be known. to be known is to be loved. to be loved is to be changed.)
~~
details!! :
reiji and circe are, as player character and partner respectively, named from the start.
that faded naming screenshot is from my actual playthrough of the game. heres a clearer version!!
Tumblr media
(also the comic panels look like the in-game text boxes and that was very intentional)
naming easter eggs!!
>reiji was a misspelling - i forgot that the japanese for thunder was rai, not rei, so reiji ended up as reiji rather than something playing off being an electric type. a spikey design and feeling for the speech bubble to contrast circe. also thats a pecha scarf because i like not being poisoned. >circe, in mythology, is the daughter of the sun god helios. fire type, daughter of the sun, you get the idea. a more rounded and curly design and speech bubble to contrast reiji. i forgot if circe was wearing the band that increased attack or the one that increased special attack but she certainly is wearing one. >phosphor's name is taken from a game called Oneshot!! the lamp visible in the last page is inspired directly by the lamplighter guys lamp and their speechbubble features a lightbulb, a big plot-important object in Oneshot
Tumblr media
>fey is a reference to maya fey from ace attorney!! a purple scrunchie to reference that maya is purple, a magatama both around feys neck and in her speech bubble because thats plot important. the chains in the speech bubble are also a reference to ace attorney and the magatama. the background silhouette is the hazakura temple gates because that case was sure memorable.
Tumblr media
>basilisk is a reference to the common water basilisk! so hella water motif and an attempt to merge a wooper with a basilisk. hell yeah.
Tumblr media
>rivulet!! rain world rivulet!!!! i gave rivus big ol eyes to a surskit and stuck their axolotl-esque whisker on top and put pink highlights to make a surskit design with a very obvious inspiration. i didnt want to go with a water motif cause basilisk already had that so i made the background silhouette rivulet the slugcat and gave the speech bubble a more wavey look for fun.
Tumblr media
>(in hindsight basilisks (walks on water) and rivulets (axolotl) names should have been swapped. that wouldve fit better. but oh well it is what it is and i dont wanna change it)
