The thing is that life was different.
Not easier but different. I mean, I'm a kid from the late 80s-90s from Santiago de Cali Colombia. Lived through the cartel wars in that time. Life wasn't easier.
But even with all of that things were so simple back then.
Cassettes gave access to all the music of the world. You just need the right time and the right moment, and a lot of patience waiting to the radio to play the song so you can record it.
VHS allowed you to watch and rec movies, shows and events.
MTV was a network of music. Without reality tv or other shows. The only different things was the times for the awards.
After we lost MTV we continued with VH1.
Companies like Coca-Cola and Postobon(a soda company from Colombia) constantly gave way gifts and awards that allow you to play or collect. I had toy cars, vintage bottles, popsicles, toys, soccer balls, polar bear toys and more.
Youtube was the place to watch the shows and everything else you couldn't find in cable. People updated constantly entire episodes just because they could and wanted.
TV shows last for ages and there wasn't a show or a novela that didn't had less than 5 seasons.
Is weird. The first time I heard Juan Manuel Serrat Mi Niñez "My childhood" I always thought that the generational yearning was just for the people that lived in that era.
How naive I was?
