imagine what the ealdor villagers must have thought of merlin. when he lived there they thought he was a bit odd, probably accident prone, on the outside, bit of a funny guy. he had exactly one friend. all of a sudden he leaves to go to fucking camelot of all places. why? stfu we don't need a why. they think nothing of it and forget about him.

Fourth person uses plural first pronouns for the narrator/titular character(s)

An example might be instead of:

‘I sit in the chair by the window’ Or ‘Jon sits in the chair by the window’

‘We sit in the chair by the window’

Here’s an excerpt from The Virgin Suicides by Jeffery Eugenides that uses 4th person:

“It didn’t matter in the end how old they had been, or that they were girls, but only that we had loved them, and that they hadn’t heard us calling, still do not hear us, up here in the tree house, with our thinning hair and soft bellies, calling them out of those rooms where they went to be alone for all time, alone in suicide, which is deeper than death, and where we will never find the pieces to put them back together.”

My favorite thing about merthur is how utterly little Arthur knows about Merlin. Like he doesn’t know he has magic, he doesn’t know what he does when he disappears for days on end-hell, he thinks he spends it all in the tavern. He watches merlin sleep on the floor, make him rat soup, pretty obviously lie about many, many things, and still he’s just like “yeah that one. I want that one. Give him to me”
