Same anon for the Gojo post - loved your reply and mostly agree. However, although I see his motivations similarly + think it will come to bite him v soon, I kinda sympathise with him as I feel it's the role his strength has pushed him into. Like yes, he has people that care for him but the power difference is so extreme that he has to stand alone even when he's literally melting his brain to keep up. imo Gege might want to show that that much power in one person is inherently not a good thing

Continuing the discussion from [this post] and [this response], I agree anon Gojo is in the end a product of the system that he hates so much. Perhaps that's why Gojo's attempt at rebellion against sorcerer society is so flawed, because in the end he is still the Golden Child of that same society. In traditional Golden Child fashion there's basically no thought paid to the hardships in Gojo's life and he's not really seen as a person outside of his ability as a sorcerer.

Gojo's entire character is a meditation on having unlimited strength, and the limitations that come with it. He even realizes pretty early that all the strength in the world doesn't mean he's always capable of doing whatever he wants, and that he'll be able to save everyone he wants to save. My friend justapanda made a meta on how Gojo's actually one of the most limited characters in the series because of the nature of his strengths. I can list off the similiarities between Sukuna and Gojo all day, but unlike Sukuna, Gojo for the most part uses his strength for the masses and sorcerer society as a whole.

It seems only natural that not only would having the strength to fight a small nation's army single handedly alienate you from your much weaker peers, but also carrying sorcerer society on your back and working alone would only further serve to distance you from others.

Not only does Gojo continually work alone, none of his fellow teachers or sorcerers have any idea who he is - like as a person. There's an extra in volume ten where a lot of the main cast is interviewed about Gojo and they all just say some variation of "he's the strongest".

None of them say anything personal. On top of that we know for a fact several of the people who work with Gojo, including Nanami say that they can't stand him as a person but respect him as a sorcerer.

There's a pretty simliar character in Tokyo Ghoul who occupies the same spot that Gojo does as "The Strongest". An unnatural talent that puts all the other investigators / fighters in the CCG to shame and someone so unshakably strong he has no compettitors and seems untouchable in battle.

On top of that he seems to have no life / role / friends outside of his job. There's even a similiar scene wher eone character tries to interview everyone else to learn more about him.

In a twist it's revealed that despite Arima being the strongest character in the story, with a genius and talent that many people envied was someone with little to no agency over their own life. They're a natural born fighter yes, but in this case that's literal. He's a born and bred child soldier and that's the only thing he was ever allowed to be.

He's a character born to fight and kill ghouls, and nothing else. Even though he's perfect at what he does, he hates his life, he hates that he was born only to kill and he wants out of it. To the point where he turns against the society that made him just like Gojo did, even if he's one of the most respected members of that same society.

However, even if Arima wants to destroy the society he's a part of he's too big of a cog in that machine that he can't really see himself living in the new world. As one of the old guard when he destroys the old society he plans on dying along with it, and that's exactly what he does. He's too much of a product of the society he came from to exist without it, or eevn imagine anything better, the most he can do is destroy the old and hope someone else will make something new.

Arima and Gojo are characters who are similiarly people with talent that would supposedly allow them to do anything in life, but are actually rather limited in their agency. They're both stuck in the role that they were born in.

I'd say the difference is that Arima is much more self aware than Gojo will ever be. Gojo knows that he's lonely, he knows that there's something wrong with the society around him and he wants to fix it, but I think despite the fact that he did come to the realization that strength won't save everyone he still uses strength as his go-to problem solver.

His solution to the child soldiers that Jujutsu Society makes and sacrifices is to just... make stronger child soldiers. He says his goal is to destroy things and shake them up but he's not really out for destruction he's just making a regime change and putting his people in charge instead. Gojo knows Jujutsu Society is wrong, but he can't quite decode the "might makes right" that's been programmed into his head.

Having put that much power and responsibility on Gojo's shoulders may have just permanently rewired his brain to where he can't see himself existing outside of his role or any life outside of one as the strongest sorcerer like Arima's own tragic existence. Arima at least is self-aware enough to know that he doesn't want this life though, whereas Gojo is still charging ahead being Gojo.

You mention Gojo is literally melting his brain fighting alone, and just this latest chapter Kashimo even says something along the lines of even if it saves Gojo's life or beats Sukuna don't inrevene in the fight because this is Gojo's fight. Gojo's pride at being the strongest, is apparently more important than his life or the grand scheme of things.

You know priorities, but it does make sense this is tragically the only thing Gojo has really to base his identity around. Arima can't imagine a life in the better world he wants to create, whereas Gojo only know sorcerer society values of strength.

It makes me wonder if we're going to get a similiar ending to Gojo as we are to Arima. The tragic nature of being the strongest and his role as the golden boy of sorcerery society has just made it so that he can't really imagine a better world than the one we have right now, even if he wants to change or shake up sorcer society he's just too entrneched in it.

Arima ends his life by committing suicide to help bring down the CCG, whereas I don't see Gojo committing suicide but it's possible that the same way Arima died to bring down the old society with him Gojo might similiarly die alongside Sukuna. As a way to show that the old way of being a sorcerer and prioritizing strength over everything else is dying as an ideal and Gojo's students are going to rise up and replace him with a new way of doing things.

Which would make Gojo's character tragic in the same way Arima's is. Someone who genuinely wants better for the world but is unable to grow and adapt in time and therefore can't survive in the new world they want to create.

Yeah okay I'll finally make a post on my latest Takizawa headcanon bc ever since I made the connection I couldn't stop thinking about it.

In short, I think he probably has npd, or narcissistic personality disorder.

Now I wanna make it clear I'm not a professional, I'm not giving any diagnosis or anything here, this is just what I've observed through his behaviour and how I think it fits the criteria.

I'm going to be mostly focused on his human character, might bring up a point or two from :re, but it's just gonna be the good brown haired boy for the most part.

Going through the list in the DSM-V, first is: a grandiose sense of self-importance (exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)

We first see this when he criticises Juuzou for eating in the meeting room and not listening to him because he's older. He's not proven himself to be actually superior, but he believes he is.

And again later when he's jealous Juuzou gets to go on the Aogiri raid and he's left behind to do paperwork.

Second piece is preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love.

Now, we don't exactly ever see him like, just sitting there thinking about being promoted or whatever, but it is known that he desperately wants one.

Third is believing that they are "special" and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)

I don't have any solid proof or screenshots for this one, but it stands to reason that this is likely why he joined the CCG in the first place. Investigators are strong and "special", and we never see him interact with people who aren't investigators outside of Hide, who he really only seems to vent to, someone he probably doesn't see as an "equal"

Fourth, requiring excessive admiration.

Again, no solid proof, but he often seems desperate for praise for his work and to be recognized.

Fifth is a sense of entitlement (unreasonable expectations of especially favourable treatment or automatic compliance with their expectations)

See point 1, he feels entitled to Juuzou's compliance and to go on the raid.

Now, point six, being interpersonally exploitative (taking advantage of others to achieve their own ends), I don't think I've seen. At least, not as a human. In :re I can totally see him using Aogiri to eventually regain the CCG's trust as an example though.

Seven, lacking empathy (unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others), is a hard one.

The way I see it is that he sort of has empathy, but only for the attention. In one of the screenshots I added earlier he says he wants to get promoted so he can help people, but if we look at that statement through another lens, it could become "I want to help people so they thank and congratulate me"

Eight though, often being envious of others or believing that others are envious of them, hoo boy is he a jealous guy.

Like, I don't even need to say anything here, do I?

He is jealous of anyone better than him in anything and everyone around him knows it.

And finally, nine, showing arrogant, haughty behaviours or attitudes.

Again, when he wanted to go on the Aogiri raid, but this is most clearly seen as a ghoul to be honest. Especially :re volume 3, he's destroying squads with little apparent effort, fights Haise while making snarky remarks, and that monolouge he gives to those two investigators reads so much like "I'm better than you for having figured this out"

A few other things outside of the diagnostic criteria I would like to add is how he clearly has a strong hierarchy, like he views any investigators his rank or lower as below him and any investigators ranked above him as great

Something else is that narcissistic people often don't have high self esteem

And though he may talk big, it's clear he's not very confident about facing the Owl

These are just a few of my thoughts, definitely not everything, and it's not like he perfectly fits the criteria, but I just saw more traits in him than I didn't.

Nuance in Star Wars

There is some tendency in a lot of fandoms but also the SW fandom in particular that holds this belief that you can´t support "morally wrong characters because they reflect on your own morality" something I believe is really absurd not just because you can´t judge a person by the cartoons/movies/series they like but also because fiction itself doesn´t work that way, in fiction characters ARE supposed to have virtues and flaws, no matter if their actions are morally wrong or right and in a story like the prequel trilogy of star wars, which is supposed to be a tragedy and tragedies are all about fatal flaws, is practically a requeriment for the characters to be flawed, because something seriously went wrong to get the story to the way things were in A New Hope.

The Jedi Order was well meaning, were loyal to strong principles and tried their best during the prequel trilogy but they also grew arrogant in their possition of power after being unchallanged for centuries to the point they believed their own counsel that the sith were erradicated over evidence staring right at them in TPM and often they were compromised by senate politics, something the Sith used agaisn´t them to get their revenge on them and manipulated things in a way that made the Jedi complicit in supporting slave soldiers, the fact they didn´t even notice they did this says volumes because the soldiers were needed so it was neccesary and they were the "guardians of peace and justice" after all.

Obi-Wan was a model Jedi of the old jedi order, he genuinely loved being a Jedi, help people, follow the code and he is a great warrior but this fact also assured he didn´t know how to handle a student like Anakin, a former slave not raised at the temple, who believed in doing something out of compassion not just an abstract idea of good which Obi-Wan mistakenly took to meant Anakin didn´t care for justice or abstract concepts, he did, "he believed the biggest problem in the galaxy was that no one helps each other" so he was convinced he could be the one who could help but given Anakin grew up a slave on Tatooine, Anakin learned you can have the best principles in the world like the republic or Jedi did and yet not put them in practice to a real effect, see the republic ignoring slavery in the outer rim or leaving his mother behind because he was supposed to become a jedi without "attachments"

So principles don´t matter much if they don´t help to make the life of those subjected to them better in a real way, not just an abstract one and he called this compassion- unlimited love. Obi-Wan then teached Anakin to follow orders even or especially if they went agaisn´t Anakin´s povs because Obi-Wan thought Anakin´s main beliefs were wrong just like later he believed Luke´s beliefs were wrong, the difference being that he no longer had a hold over Luke like he did with Anakin. The result was that Anakin went from being someone sure of himself, strong willed and compassionate to become someone constantly doubting himself, expecting direction, becoming angry for not getting things done, Obi-Wan didn´t train Anakin to develop his own discerniment of right and wrong like Yoda did with Luke, this is why Obi-Wan said in the OT he didn´t train Anakin as well as Yoda did.

Vader and Anakin are the same person, they drive star wars as a narrative but they are the same person on very different mental spaces, ultimately Anakin is the person who believed he could change the system, save everyone else affected negatively by it and do so in a virtuos heroic manner if he was strong enough and had enough compassion and love in himself but he progressively not only stopped trusting his own sense of right and good, he believed power was more neccesary than love because power could get things done, he allowed others to tell him what he was supposed to think or do and began developing a growing anger over his apparent betrayal of everything good he ever wanted to do for those dear to him(leaving his mother which resulted in her death) but also the galaxy(Not being able to free the slaves and later slaving himself to Palpatine).

Vader is the pessimist, nihilist Anakin who got convinced in the end there is no changing the system, jedi and sith are equally corrupt, the end justifies the means, he will never stop being a slave, you only can join the system and control it to do your own thing, you can´t save anyone, just try to keep them alive a little bit more and ironically Vader in his distant and cold judment with no apparent attachments, see him attacking Ahsoka and Luke out of duty or emotions driving his character, resembles way more the Jedi the old order expected Anakin to be than Anakin himself ever did because the Jedi never appreciated the honest good, compassion and love Anakin had within himself, the good Padme and Luke saw in him that saved the galaxy or the Jedi saw it as the incorrect way to do things so Anakin broke himself into trying to fit their mold until he became an emotionally distant half machine sith who destroyed the Jedi Order for the greater good of keeping his love alive and the republic/empire in one piece and the Jedi were acceptable sacrifices. This on itself is a tragedy.

The main difference between the good guys of the PT anf the OT is that OT character are not blind to their own flaws but they approach them in a day to day basis and don´t allow those flaws to change the person they were, always having hope they can get a better tomorrow with love and sacrifice. Luke and Leia didn´t love Han because he was flawless but because he showed them they could trust him to keep them safe and care for more than his own interest.

Star wars indeed is a story for kids with puppets but this doesnt mean it didn´t have nuances in their characters and we truly can´t call any character there flawless but that´s the point of the story. It isn´t about being flawless it´s about trying to do the good thing despite all the mistakes you have made along the way and all the flaws you may have and that never is too late to come back if you truly want to.

You had studied under Gandalf the Grey for many years, learning from the wizard in the hopes you too could possibly learn a fraction of the man's infinite knowledge. Witchcraft and wizardry were becoming less and less sort after and taught, not many wizards taking on apprentices and not many wanted to learn. It felt like in a sense the magic of the world was dying, Elves were returning to their ancestral homes, Dwarves staying in their mountains, allowing men to have free reign of the world. It brought you great sadness to think that one day you may be one of the only people with magical ability in all of Middle Earth. With Gandalf falling to the dreaded beast, Balrog, that fear was slowly becoming a reality.

Travelling with the fellowship was fun and exciting, though losing Gandalf had put a pause to the usual cheery nature of everyone. Before then everyone was fairly close, getting along the best they could on the ride. You often found yourself speaking with Boromir, the man providing you with unlimited jokes and stories to keep you entertained. Though you got on well with everyone, it was clear you and Boromir were becoming quite close. Everyone caught the longing stares he gave you, how during a battle he would stay closer to you to ensure your safety. Yet nothing gave away just how much you liked him, on your part there were no longing stares. Nothing to truly tell them if you reciprocated the man's feelings or simply saw him as a friend.

But as they watched you weep over the dying man, holding him close to your chest the best you could without hurting him, they knew you loved him just as much as he loved you. You did not care for the blood getting on your hands and clothes. Only caring for the man in your arms as you break into loud, uncontrollable sobs, begging him to be alright. Boromir's face held a content smile, holding on softly to your arm.

Gandalf had always warned you about certain spells that were deemed too dangerous and dark to ever try to do. He knew you were curious by nature and you would stumble upon them sooner or later. Thus, he taught you about them only briefly, mentioning the ones in your book that were far too dangerous for you to attempt. But all his warnings seemed to leave your mind as you looked down at Boromir, for you only wished for him to be okay, to stay at your side.

"Impoire Herisum Ascenaeaturi Damcio" as you begin the incantation the world seems to shift, the air growing stale. "Impguin Vaseoulum Xaaoturi Syvbeo." The sky darkened, the trees around you almost leaning into where you sat, and the ground rumbled as the volume in your voice rose. "Impayailum Taneoious Sulba Zeiuul Ziayuerate Accguin." Lightening struck the ground, one could not say if it struck you or simply near you.

The colour began to return to Boromir's face, no longer looking ghastly and sickly. His pained, staggered breath returning to normal and the strength returning in his hold on you. As you had shared your soul with him, spared him from the afterlife for just a little longer. A part of you felt almost selfish for doing so, but you could not back out now, for it had been done.

He was back with you and you with him, not even death had the power to rip you apart.

DARPA starts wireless electricity air transfer project

DARPA is embarking on the initial phase of the POWER program, which seeks to transform the distribution of energy through wireless energy transfer carried out in the air.

Three teams - led by Raytheon Corporation, Draper Laboratory and BEAM Co. - will design and develop wireless optical power relays. The objectives of the program include the demonstration of the main components necessary for a resilient and light-speed energy network.

“This project has the potential to advance energy transmission in orders of magnitude, which could radically reshape society's relationship with energy,” said Dr. Paul Jaffe, who leads the POWER program at DARPA. "A wireless power network could release power from new and diverse sources, including space, and connect them quickly and reliably to energy-hungry consumers."

To support rapid development, the optical power relays designed in the first phase of POWER will be demonstrated in capsules transported by existing aircraft in the second phase of the project.

In addition, power transmission will allow future smaller and cheaper aircraft, since fuel storage and engine volume can be drastically reduced. This will be explored through conceptual projects in phase one. Eventually, these new small and distributed platforms could provide economic aircraft with unlimited range and endurance to support military missions. Each relay design will be evaluated based on accurate and efficient energy redirection, wavefront correction for high beam quality and adjustable energy collection. In the third and final phase of the program, the relays will be demonstrated through an aerial optical path that aims to provide 10 kilowatts of optical energy to a terrestrial receiver that is 200 kilometers away from the terrestrial laser source.

Effective relays are a critical component that is missing, necessary for a practical, flexible and adaptable wireless power network. These relays will overcome the unacceptable conversion losses that occur when repeatedly switching from wave propagation to electricity in a multi-jumps network. Relays also allow transmission at high altitudes, which is much more efficient than transmitting energy through the low, thick and turbulent atmosphere. This high-altitude optical layer will provide the long-range and high-performance backbone for the wireless power grid.

"Each of the selected teams proposed unique technical approaches to the power transmission relay problem, ranging from new combinations of existing technologies to high-risk and high-reward technological innovations," said Dr. Paul Jaffe, who leads the POWER program at DARPA. "The range of proposed solutions covers a balance between guaranteed performance and possible advances in size, weight and power to allow small distributed systems for the future wireless power grid."

The first phase will include bench demonstrations of critical technologies and is expected to last 20 months, with the potential for a three-month option of additional risk reduction efforts. The second phase will involve an open request in early 2025 and will focus on integrating relay technologies into an existing platform for a low-power aerial demonstration.

Upon this tranquil paradisic environment of a polluted free scenery that is the emerald wilderness underneath the purified orb of morning light like a sunshine pouring its gentle glistening brightness onto the cleansing meadows teeming with harmless naturistic creatures both enormous as well as miniature combined in once, you, a beautiful ordinary young woman who lived alone into the residential abode protectively surrounded by fences other than only several lonesome vegetative trees, are lounging quietly onto the comfort sofa within a decent living room with your legs firmly crossed instead of spreading them wide for an unreasonable purpose whatsoever.

He demands no wretched equal, disgusting friendship or measly tag alongs. Most importantly of all, nothing in this circle shaped ball decorated of sea as well as ground will ever measure upward to the glorified predatory emperor of power. For every single goal shall always descend into his claws, never forgetting about taking anything he desires by force.

Suddenly, out of the blue, there was a menacing hiss that emits somewhere into the territorial grounds following with several soundings of rustling bushes caused by an anonymous reptile, however, it wasn't an original snake or a large andocanda. Instead, it is yet a much colossal encounter for some people like you to watch out for, or act literally concerning about warnful encounters.

Becoming extremely cautious of your unprotective surroundings, wielding a water filled bucket toward your chest, the sibilated sound has started to increase thus closely, poking out its deadly iced peepers throughout the bushes straightly at you to observe your species. This time, an unknown noise have chosen a better victim, one who poses as a helpless little damsel foolishly lost her way inside the center of a jungle.

"Hmm.... What do we have here.....? A defenceless little bitch with no proper sense of direction whatsoever? How utterly curious...." The darkly voice mutter inaudibly, spying on you without notice as it soaks its lips by the long tongue slowly rotating.

Lastly, without any additional volunteers present, including other differential females to appear as well as come up here to bravely obtain the rap, that defenseless young damsel....is you. Having no plentiful time to ponder about retaliation nor attempting to seek for a safe spot to hide, you decided to run away from the unstoppable threat immediately deserting behind a bucket of cool water afar of the bayou earlier without looking back.

"Heh.... That's right, you impudent little bird.... Fly away to your nest.... As far as you hardly can... For it'll only be a matter of time until I apprehend my sweet meal without breaking a pathetic sweat...."

Afterwards, a devious chuckle is now magnifyingly heard towards you, belonging to none other than the legendary tyrannical dragon naga himself.

"Well well.... Look what I have caught in my tail.... A naughty little treassser who ignorantly filched something that doesn't belong to her... Just my luck..." Spoke the cockingly handsome brunette, slowly revealing his extraordinary self with a carving smirk on his boned face while restraining your every move to scram safely.

Gulping in infinite silence with a side of an undoubtable petrified look into your eyes as you first witnessed your merciless captor in the flesh, Kaiba can actually sense your unfleeing fear too clearly. Now that you really thought about it, since the early day where you went onward at a pond to grab some water before this incident had occurred, you have infiltrated his most restricted but also secretly rare kingdom, it all come back to your senses.

Your pupils redirected from the ground to his, bowing your head an apologetic matter for infiltrating his formal property. Although that the all mighty remorseless half snake such as him would always turn down as well as refuse to accept anyone's blabbering apologies for wasting his flawless time, which he never does, he had some occasional ideas on what to do with you instead.

"Fine then. I'll accept your little apology for now. But on one condition..."

Your head once again starts to nod as you would listen to him very closely, doing your best to not get on his nerves, waste his competent time, or piss him off quickly.

"Until you will learn to stay out of my domain and to know your place like an obedient little pheasant, you'll become my personal slave for the rest of your worthless life. Otherwise, your precious little body belongs to me only. Nobody else can have you nor will you go back to your ridiculous home. You obey only to me. Understand?"

Thirdly, you had no choice but to offer him a covenant nod of your head complying to his utter whim without resistance. His smirk grew slightly wider at your response.

"Good. At least you learn your lesson by now, little bird. Never invade my personal territory again or I will have the pleasure of devouring your slutty body whole myself. So you had better remember that and do as I command. That's your first order from now on." He demanded coolly, having you to reply at his command simultaneously.

"Mmm... That's better. You're beginning to behave yourself like a good little tweetling for once. Despite your puny resistance against my maximum superiority or foolishly attempting to escape my reach, you would do well to satisfy my needs. Whether you will like it or not...." Grinned Kaiba, still holding your damageless face in one hand yanking it closer to his.

"As of right now, you will address me as "superior master". Meaning that I alone will dominate everything in my path by force. That includes you too, birdie~ Just so long as you don't disappoint me any further like the repulsive lot~, that is...."

Casting aside a now forgetful misunderstanding accident to the breeze, Kaiba initiated his seductive personality into complete secrecy just for you, reaching his face over to yours before impaling your lips deeply with his. Traditionally, presenting a slightly painful nibble unto your soft thin neck first. A whimpering moan hurls afar of your lovely maw as he then bit into it. Symbolizing you as his personal irreplaceable slave for eternity.

Lastly, the moment of truth now arises from its slumber as the draconical genius directs his attention from the bitten neckcollar, aiming it toward as well as laying dual clawed hands on your heavenly puff cheeks to gladly consider your apology with acceptance of a kiss.

"And as for your apology, I will declare this....acceptable. In other words, you'll forevermore belong to me, my troublesome little bird~...."

His cold thin line lips has been granted an honor to jammed them into your sweet warm ones so deeply and with enough white energy inside his hybrid anatomy, extra hungrily to only absorb an ever living breath thoroughly from your lungs. You respond this harden osculation properly despite yourself becoming unable to be released from the coiled up position.

Endlessly making out along with the ocean eyed naga holding your body close into his smexy arms in an embracive cuddle, sharing each other's tongues, this too, will surely be of your magical once and a life time fantasy you'll never wish to forget or ignore at all. Rearranging from a decently singular girl, to accepting of being Seto Kaiba's cute little love slave forever, disregarding about you not asking for this.

All has becoming fascinatingly perfect for the both of you. Regardless of the polar opposites in the world, Mother Nature, not to mention a treasured relationship between Kaiba as well as you, has hardly ever been this gracefully harmonious.

So......a little while ago we had the big milestone of MMPR reaching 100 issues. Which I’m not going to lie - is a really big deal, and something worth celebrating. Even if it’s technically cheating a bit because we’ve been splitting MMPR into two for the past few years. But still! It’s a big deal, so we’re going to talk about it now that everything’s done and the books are moving on to other things. It’s Charge to 100 - Power Rangers edition!

As I said in the Mighty Morphin post, the Power Rangers’ side of Charge to 100 is actually more of an event storyline, as everything it does leads up to #100′s story. And in all honesty, this is because Charge to 100 and MMPR #100 is, in essence, the finale of the Power Rangers side of the main series; and not just because after this, the series rolled back into one monthly MMPR release. The Mighty Morphin side contributes to #100, and the storyline calls back to events in MMPR, but ultimately it’s a Power Rangers story more than a Mighty Morphin story. So how does that work out? Well, um.

Summary time. Jason decides looking for the fascist murderer that they let escape at full power isn’t worth wasting time on anymore so he and the Omegas put it upon themselves to tell the entire universe they’re their personal cops now. Andros sees their message and enlists their help to free the last survivors of KO-35 and then get his Astro Megaship (with bonus twinksicle inside) back from his enemies. Meanwhile Trini and Zack save and adopt an alien baby they name Journey, whose gimmick is they age super fast. Jason and Andros save the KO-35ians and Jason’s condescending white boy attitude towards the genocide victim is interrupted by his mom we’ve never met dying. Andros commits some war crimes and steals a Gold Omega morpher from the Safe Haven vault. Some people fight aliens to cope so after the funeral the Omegas go to take back the Astro Megaship and Andros Pet Semetarys Zhane with the Gold Morpher, unleashing the Death Ranger. Surprisingly the Death Ranger is evil and “kills” all the Omega Rangers. Zombies. The MMPRs once again need to clean up the Omegas’ mess so they fight and fight and Jason learns to let go of his mom I guess and Death Ranger goes bye-bye and Jason loses his connection to the Omega powers somehow so he leaves. Trini becomes Omega Red and Kevor, one of the Harturian refugees from Ultimate Power, becomes Omega Yellow. Due to their accelerated aging, Journey dies of old age. THE END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As usual, the positives. Because despite my distaste for the Omegas, there were some things I liked here! While I didn’t think much of Journey the first time I read due to the reliance on family sitcom cliches and just waiting to get to the point of their inclusion, I liked them a lot more on a reread. They had a fun personality and I welcome any kind of alien physiology in Power Rangers that makes them more than just a funny-looking human. Their relationship with Kevor was cute, even if it only got an issue before it turned weird with the whole aging thing. And of course the inclusion of a regular non-binary character, even if.....well.

The most memorable part of the event is undoubtedly Death Ranger, who caused a stir the moment they were first revealed to the public. And let’s be honest, it’s because they’re a super cool concept! A lost Omega ranger, with the powers to manipulate death itself; and more non-binary representation, to boot. Like!!!!!! They raise zombies!!! Who doesn’t love a good zombie story?

well.

Beyond the initial cool concept, they’re...........boring. I’m sorry guys. They dropped the ball hard with this character. Their main source of intrigue comes from their origin book, something that is barely referenced in the main series at all. Obviously they want you to read the Unlimited book alongside the main series, to the point where it’s being included in the volume collections, but with how little the main series references their backstory, it makes you wonder what the point of telling their origin was in the first place. Which is a shame because their backstory promises an evil but ultimately nuanced and tragic character with their own identity and past life, but the main series just delivers generic evil conqueror. (Hmm, sounds familiar.) It feels like such a waste of potential, since there was a lot to talk about here - they’ve technically outlived their old team. Xi worked with them, yet the two never acknowledge each other. (On Xi’s part, it’s established they refused to upload their old memories, but this doesn’t amount to anything but a personality change and again, Spa’ark doesn’t acknowledge them.) The core of their struggles coming from how they were separated from their species’ hivemind and thus didn’t have “death” the way most beings do. How they are ultimately motivated by wanting to help others find justice. Nothing from that ever comes to play to make them seem more than just Evil Death Spirit who is too mean about wanting to do the right thing. Their biggest claim to fame in the main series comes from their powers, which even then is confusing (they kill the Omegas to take control of them, yet when they’re defeated and their influence over the dead is gone, the Omegas....are still alive? Jason gets stabbed clean through the chest and Zack is implied to have gotten mauled alive by a zombie Yale, and there are no consequences there?)

I understand Boom wanting to keep Death Ranger an open concept they can return to, especially considering their immediate infamy, but their defeat in this book amounts to the basic “you bested me, but I’ll be back!!!!!!!!” - something we saw with Alpha-1, of all villains. So it just adds to the feeling of wasted potential - this character could have been SO much more and told a way better story than what they gave them. Especially when over on MM we had a very intriguing story about someone trying to beat death......though I’m biased. And I know recent solicits have confirmed apparently the Omegas’ newest mission is to search for Spa’ark but.....with both of their ties to the Morphin Grid destroyed, how is there anything left of them to search for?

On that note, let’s talk about The Themes. Obviously this story is ultimately about loss and the importance of treasuring every moment you have with your loved ones, because you don’t know when they’ll be taken away. It’s something told through Andros losing his planet, Zack and Trini losing Journey, and Jason losing his mother. The best way I can describe its execution is...........you can see it, but you can’t feel it. Especially with Jason’s plotline, which is arguably meant to be the heart of it all with him becoming Death Ranger’s new primary host.

I’ve complained about this a million times ever since the reveal but having Jason’s mother die hurts this more than anything. And it’s not from lack of trying to make this work thematically; a lot of emphasis is given to how lot of the tragedy comes from how unexpected it was. That Jason had given himself time to prepare for his father’s death, but not his mother’s. And that’s fine. What hurts it is that this apparently huge loss does not translate properly to the reader. Jason’s mom was never, and I meant NEVER, a character before this; just someone we knew existed because Jason and his dad would talk about her sometimes. And even then it’s implied in early GGPR that his mom was just as distant with him as his dad was. There is nothing for the audience to connect here with beyond just basic-level “sad my mom died” in any kids’ movie (and even then, there’s at least ONE scene that establishes how important the mom is to the kid before she dies.) And it’s taken even further when what you would think is the ultimate consequence of Jason’s grief, that he would choose to go along with the Death Ranger’s promises of bringing her back.................he doesn’t.

He says “I would give ANYTHING to see my mother again” literally right after he refuses to go along with the Death Ranger. To contrast this, Andros going to these huge extremes to save Zhane and his people actually does translate to the audience that this loss was impactful in a way that......means something to the story. (Which it should be, because Andros is a victim of genocide in an interplanetary war. It bothers me that the book tries to act like Jason understands this, when their tragedies are nothing alike?) And it hurts it even further during Jason’s trip through the Morphin Grid/mindscape or whatever and sees the illusion of his mother being alive; we already know he refused the power of the Death Ranger to bring her back, so where’s the tension in him being given the chance to stay with her if he stays with Death Ranger, or the character development that comes with him refusing Death Ranger’s power? He already said no to it!!!!!!!

It just boggles my mind that something that seemed so clearly set up - Jason suffers a sudden and tragic loss, in which part of his grief comes from taking his mother’s presence for granted under the assumption he’d always have her, and is presented with a chance to make it right - but he immediately says no. So Death Ranger’s takeover of him has to be done through a sneak attack and forced consumption. (It doesn’t help that the possession in general is just......Spa’ark puppeting their bodies and not a mutual combination of wills a la Eddie Brock and the Symbiote.) In general, Andros’s choices carrying the Death Ranger storyline this much works to its detriment, because it robs the Omegas of really having agency throughout it. Zack, Trini, and Yale in particular are presented as mindless, generic minions once they’re possessed, with the only indication they had more going on with Zombie Trini apparently holding back....something that’s only told to us via Journey and not shown. (Which is weird considering Zombie Zhane was able to talk and outright mocks Andros for fighting back???) I’m not sure if Andros’s inclusion was an editor mandate or not, but I feel if you took him out and gave the basic drama of his storyline to the Omegas, it would feel more earned and give their choices real weight.

(And honestly, having Jason’s dad die could still work for the theme - such as Jason believing that living it up on Safe Haven and neglecting his Earth responsibilities left his dad without the extra care he needed. There’s a lot of emphasis on the Omegas treating Safe Haven like this perfect utopia, including a scene where Jason is acting extra flippant about how great they have it, that I thought for sure that’s where this was going.)

On Zack and Trini’s side of it, well.......I’m honestly not sure what to ultimately think of it. As I said before a lot of it mostly serves to tie to the themes of spending time with loved ones because you don’t know how long you have with them, which makes it feel very self-contained as a whole, especially how Journey - whom is arguably the main character of the arc, even more than Zack and Trini - dies at the end without really contributing anything to story beyond lending an extra hand in the final battle. Outside of that it really just feels like a basic funny adoption story (complete with that stupid “Dad hates my boyfriend” trope that is honestly out of character for Zack) that I don’t really want to call filler, but it can feel like it was just something to give Zack and Trini something to do while Jason and Andros do all of the important stuff. Zack and Trini don’t really develop as characters (Trini becoming Red happens offscreen and she's been teased as a new leader long before this), and their relationship doesn’t develop into anything more significant than it was before despite them being....you know.....PARENTS (and this was written way before we knew Minh existed so “oh well Zack/Trini isn’t endgame in the show” is no excuse.) It was a bit of a wasted opportunity to not have their possession via Death Ranger tie into their own griefs about the possibility of losing Journey or how they miss their own families (because apparently “fear of losing their loved ones” doesn’t apply to the ones they left behind on Earth.)

Yale is also there. And like. They do stuff with Jason and Andros? But it really shows how they’re not so much a character than a mascot when after they become a ranger you immediately bring in three new characters for the Omegas to bounce off of. And as for Kevor, the new Omega Yellow......well.......after a strong introduction where he rightfully points out the problems with the Omegas and Safe Haven, it’s never brought up again (a common scene in the Omega books) and he just becomes Journey’s friend/kind of love interest before they die and he gets the Yellow morpher offscreen. It’s......extremely forced, and disappointing that his character development goes from “criticizing the Omegas to becoming one of them,” especially when we don’t even see that happen. He and Zack don’t even resolve their arc-long tension. It’s less “yeah, he deserved the powers over anyone” and more “well, Journey’s dead and Arkon’s old, so I guess he’s the last named Safe Haven character we have left to fill the suit.”

Meanwhile Kiya is still in that fucking jar.

(Also in general it sucks that pretty much everyone in the fandom was assuming Journey would become a ranger, giving us the possibility of another non-binary character who’s an active ranger that isn’t an animal or robot. Instead the book ends with both Journey AND Spa’ark gone. Thanks, guys.)

I think the harshest criticism I can give #100 is it doesn’t feel like a huge milestone event of MMPR, despite claims from other readers that it celebrates ALL of the MMPR comics and not just Ryan’s run. Like Eltarian War before it, it’s a finale that belongs solely to the Omegas; specifically for Jason. Sure the MMPRs come in to help and land the final blow on Death Ranger, but it’s once again relegating them to just an extra pair of hands rather than characters with personal stakes. The only time we really get a “celebration” of anything else is through Jason’s little trip through the Morphin Grid, and that involves.....a page where he’s with the originals on the Megazord, a page of the scene where all the rangers gathered back in Shattered Grid, and one last page of quick flashes of events mostly from Necessary Evil. I know Ranger Slayer, Ari, and Remi’s inclusion back in Necessary Evil’s finale had its own problems, but at least there it gave a better impression of the previous eras of comics contributing to the big milestone’s victory. And in general I just don’t understand why it only led to Jason’s departure when all three of them retiring their powers to members of Safe Haven would have felt like the story encompassed all three of them rather than Jason - because really, even his departure feels lackluster because it’s literally described as “just a break” that’s more or less forced onto Jason rather than an ending he chooses.

Yes yes I know this is most likely referring to how he’ll eventually become Zeo Gold but you can still foreshadow that while making it clear Jason learned something from this whole experience. And besides, this could be twisted into him possibly returning to the OMEGAS, which would be completely shit writing. Not even going to be nice about that. It would be shit.

And the worst part of it is not having ALL the Omegas retire is it apparently leading to one book switching perspectives between two separate teams again......because THAT went over so well in Necessary Evil.........

sometimes i think about how sad and tragic gojo’s character is and just start sobbing.

i think a good way to describe his tragicness as a character is how he has everything and nothing at the same time.

he’s the strongest sorcerer alive. he’s practically invincible. the world’s balance literally shifted when he was born. he comes from a well respected clan and not only that but gege has said that gojo was spoiled well while growing up too. point is, it’s very easy to get the notion that gojo satoru has everything.

there’s even an instance wherein jogo asks if there’s something that gojo doesn’t have.

which obviously, the answer is yes.

at the end of the day, his youth was stolen from him. he lives with this overbearing weight on his shoulders because he’s the strongest sorcerer alive. and im sure it can get pretty lonely when you’re living with this weight on your shoulder and it overshadows practically everything about your life.

i saw someone on twitter say before that this volume extra perfectly captures gojo’s loneliness as a character and i agree. it’s not that people around him don’t care about him, but he can never escape the high pedestal that he’s in because he’s the strongest. it follows him like a shadow and it vastly affects his life and his relationships with other people.

gege has said before that they can’t imagine gojo ever settling down with a woman and most people took it and ran with the notion that gojo is a womanizer. but i don’t think the same and i interpreted it as gojo can’t settle (especially if you take into account that one panel with yuta where yuta jokes “like you getting a girlfriend?”). i agree with gege when they said that they can’t imagine gojo ever settling down because gojo can’t. he has too much responsibility for normalcy such as settling down with someone, and i’m sure the power that he has can also cause harm to his loved ones and put them in a dangerous place. that’s how much gojo’s greatness has tainted his life.

which brings me to the the final nail in the coffin: geto and the line that had shakespeare rolling in his grave. “are you the strongest because you’re satoru gojo, or are you satoru gojo because you’re the strongest?”

i think this line perfectly encapsulates the notion that gojo has everything and nothing at the same time based on how you would look at it. it speak volumes as to how much being the strongest has taken up gojo’s life and identity. how much it has robbed him of his youth among other things.

and the sad thing is, geto was one of the few people who saw gojo as someone more than just being the strongest sorcerer alive. when nanako asked who gojo is and asked isn’t gojo super strong, geto talked about him as his best friend and didn’t delve into how gojo is the strongest sorcerer known to the world. and we all know how sad their relationship took a turn.

i mentioned that gojo’s greatness have taken up much of his life and identity and has robbed him of his youth among other things. i also think it’s interesting how the irony of his domain expansion somehow reflects the tragedy and irony of his character as well. when he used unlimited void against jogo he said “it’s ironic isn’t it? when granted everything you can’t do anything.”

obviously it’s not the exact similar sentiment, but you get the point.

gojo has been granted everything with the abilities that he inherited. after all he’s the strongest. but this greatness is the same thing that’s been robbing him of his life.

ironic isn’t it? gojo was granted with ‘everything’ yet at the end of the day he has nothing.

I found yet another hypocritical criticism on the critics sub. Somebody said that Salem's plans being vague hurts the show's story and tension. They must really hate Voldemort, Sosuke Aizen, and Obito/Tobi, then, since their plans were just as vague until near the end of their stories. To paraphrase Shrek: "r/RWBYcritics, can you not be massive hypocrites FOR FIVE MINUTES?!"

Salem's plan made more sense than Dracula from Netflix Castlevania.

His was basically kill as many men, women, and children as possible before he died, and drag his allies down with him. And what's more important, he wasn't even subtle about his death wise. Most of his allies were willing to betray him once they realized he wasn't about Vampire World Order, but suicidal lashing out.

He had power and charisma, but that was it.

Salem had charisma and intelligence, And she had an unlimited army, AND could not be killed.

So why not conquer humanity? Why not destroy humanity outright? Because like Dracula, she wanted to die and destroy humanity out of spite, but Salem HAS a plan, which Dracula did NOT!

Salem's Plan:

Divide humanity using humans and faunus against society.

Gather the 4 Relics and use them to summon the gods

Show the gods that they are as flawed as their creations.

Force the gods to wipe not only humanity out, but Salem at last.

Salem achieves death while spiting Ozpin, The Gods, and Humanity.

She dies with the satisfaction of knowing she was right, and everyone else wrong. She wins, everyone else loses.

We were able to infer Salem's motives as far back as Volume 6. Which of course critics hated the 2nd half of because it involved their favorite angry edgy white boi with a blade getting skewered by lesbians. God, I LOVED the salt from that one Adam fangirl on r/rwbycritics who was screaming that Yang and Blake should have just arrested Adam after all he did to kill them, or at least "knock him out so he couldn't follow" after him basically spending a volume doing just that.

Salem knew that if her allies learned of her true motives, they'd betray her, which is what Emerald Sustrai and Hazel Rainart did upon learning the truth...thanks to Oscar doing what Ozpin would not or could not do.

So Salem appeals to her allies with the half-lie that gathering the four relics would change the face of the planet, allowing for Salem's New World Order. And she technically wasn't lying about that. It WOULD Summon the Gods back and they would affect the planet. And by New World Order....there would be nothing left...silence, quiet...order. Which is what Salem wanted for the world. For it to no longer turn, so she could no longer walk its face. Half-lies are easier to maintain than outright lies. And Salem's skill with manipulation is very potent.

Tyrian of course figured it out...but he's Tyrian.

Cinder however...SHE is the wild card...let's see how Cinder reacts to learning the eventual truth.

Every fix-it fanfic I've seen either fails to grasp it entirely, or pretends that Salem was not the Narrator of Episode 1, to where they retcon her.

Its hilarious how many critics ignore EVERYTHING.
