Fandom Gripe #23: I know that fandom is in some deep denial about its treatment of female characters that are canonically involved with fan favorite m/m ships, but do y’all realize that when you disappear female characters from the narrative wholesale to push the idea that your canonically straight fav was “secretly gay all along!” you’re making several bad implications? That 1) bi men don’t exist, 2) bi men do exist, but those who have genuinely loved a woman before cannot genuinely love a man after that (therefore bi men don’t exist in practice), 3) women cannot inspire genuine love and devotion in men, therefore any relationship with a woman is “lesser” than the one they later have a man (see previous parenthesis), or 4) to acknowledge the existence of a lovable woman who isn’t a terrible person, where if a relationship previously existed, it did not end because of “incompatibility,” is enough to destabilize the present relationship between two queer men?

Because why is the tgcf fandom allergic to acknowledging that He Xuan had a whole ass fiancée that he loved? Why does no one ever seem to remember that the kidnappings and murders of He Xuan’s sister and fiancée were the final straws that sent him on his rampage, and he still keeps a shrine to them in the present-day of the story? Why is her entire existence and significance to He Xuan as a man, character, and to his character arc disappeared in favor of pushing Shi Qingxuan—the brother of the man responsible for his fiancée’s death—into that same role, as if to say that her impact on He Xuan is significant... just not when it's from her? Why does He Xuan’s life in fandom essentially begin not just after her death but because of it?

Yep! Toh Azuma’s original design was very different and they were told to draw the one we know now when the original one was submitted. This was then chosen to be PHH’s version of QSH. QSH was also mentioned in FSF but was not given a design.

I would like to request a head cannon of Thor, Poseidon, Hades, Apollo, Qin Shi Huang and Tesla with a female s/o who has an obsession with wearing sexy lingerie both in and out of the bedroom.

Clothing is something lost to him. The only reason he dresses well now is because they pick out his outfits for him. So he barely notices what they put on.

His attention is only ever drawn to it when someone makes a comment only it; usually, rude. That gets Tesla’s attention as he may not be the most observant, but he won’t have his partner insulted.

I have so many thoughts about our precious baby peony in general but I definitely have some specific ‘bonding’ activities that I think these three would’ve shared with him.

• Jin Ling & Jin Guangyao

Catching tadpoles.

The reason why this is so specific is because I actually used to do this with my own uncle when I was a kid 💕 JGY would definitely take JL out to the ponds to play with, catch and release tadpoles together because JL was so enchanted by them and catching them was so satisfying. They’d name them together and even though JL came up with the silliest names (like Dumpling, Lily, Buttercup etc.), JGY would never make fun of him for it and would always tell him what perfect names they were.

• Jin Ling & Jiang Cheng

Martial arts.

JC would’ve been far more patient with baby JL and JL wanted to be like him so much that he’d try to copy every move and technique perfectly, kicking his little leg in the air and throwing his little punches. He’d try to keep his form smooth (though it was difficult because he was so excited to spend time with his jiujiu and he was very smol, balance is hard when you’re so smol 😭).

Sometimes the targets on the wing-chun were too high for JL to reach and he’d get discouraged, so JC would would occasionally ‘cheat’ to make him feel better by lifting him up so he could kick/punch the higher targets.

• Jin Ling & Qin Su

Jewelry and accessorizing.

It makes me so happy that JL canonically enjoys and wears pretty accessories, and I 100% headcanon that this was QS’s influence. She saw him take an interest in all of the shiny trinkets in her vanity room, so one day, she let him join while QS and her handmaidens put on her jewelry and accessories for the day and let JL try on anything he wanted.

Both QS and her handmaidens adored JL’s beautiful hair and would decorate it with all sorts of gorgeous headpieces, hair crowns, sparkly strings of golden beads and delicate chains, etc.

It’s something JL never stopped doing from that point on and he always has something pretty in his hair—most of his accessories were inherited by QS after her passing, which she definitely would’ve wanted him to have.

I don't remember what ask game this went to, so I'm just gonna ramble.

Something something CQL AU where after rescuing Qin Su during the Sunshot Campaign, Meng Yao has to bring her to the war camp for a while, where she works with Jiang Yanli seeing to supplies and food. She's offered a chance to go to Lanling and wait out the fighting, but she's finding herself happy being useful instead of just a daughter in need of protection and making connections within the cultivation world. Qin Su was not trained as a cultivator, so she'd missed out on the Lan lectures, and Jiang Yanli is enjoying the novelty of being able to mentor someone besides the littlest shidis and shimeis.

Jiang Yanli and Nie Huaisang have been pen pals since Lan Camp, and she's still trying to decide if he's angling to marry her himself or match her up with his brother. (She doesn't think she wants a fighter for a husband; she's half-mothered two of them already.) They continue their correspondence as the war picks up steam, where Nie Huaisang proves adept at arranging for a steady supply of the kinds of things that keep morale up in a war camp: snacks and ingredients beyond the basics, good socks, ~inspiring reading material~. (Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian are scandalized when they realize jiejie's how those particular booklets keep showing up.)

When Jiang Yanli and Qin Su write to him that Meng Yao has disappeared, he starts listening to the rumors. Defecting to the Wen makes no sense, even with his messy departure from the Nie Sect. Something else must be going on.

(The end of the war proves him right.)

Something something soup drama doesn't happen, or happens differently, or whatever, and the xuanli betrothal stays dissolved. (Maybe Wen Qing is rescued by Jin forces and accepts a different proposal in this AU, an offer to protect her family from someone who can actually back it up. She never expected a love match anyway.)

Jiang Yanli and Nie Huaisang are courting by now, but slowly—he understands her need to stay with her brothers right now more than anyone. Qin Su keeps them both appraised of her and Jin Guangyao's efforts to secure their parents' blessings. Her mother is strangely resistant, and Nie Huaisang's spidey senses are tingling, and something something SECRETS ARE LEARNED AHEAD OF ANY WEDDINGS OR BETROTHALS.

So Qin Su becomes Nie furen, and Jin Guangyao receives permission to marry out to the Jiang Sect, and Jiang Cheng's not entirely sure why Nie Mingjue still treats it like an alliance between the Jiang and the Nie, but he's not looking that gift horse in the mouth.

(Maybe in a few more years, Jin Zixuan is watching the way Jiang Yanli and Jin Guangyao and Qin Su and Nie Huaisang all orbit around each other and realizes he and Wen Qing might have a better chance with their mutual crush in Yunmeng than they thought.)

(Wen Ning, not dead, falls head over heels for Mianmian. They have the least complicated courtship of anyone in their generation.)

Hi! So I did a fair amount of rereading in this specific area for a fic I'm writing but fuck if I know where I've been. I would rather die than try and find it all again so I am humbly requesting that someone else do it for me your help. I feel Pretty Damn Sure that Jgy never touched Qin Su after he knew that they were siblings. However, my friend pulled up a passage from the ExR tl: “Jin GuangYao hugged his head, his voice bitter, “… I never touched A-Su again after our marriage. A-Song… we had him before we married. Back then, I was afraid of further delay and additional issues…” (bold added)

...and I can only remember, aside from this, Qin Su saying something like "no wonder you never...ever since...ever since then", in ryukiseth's translation of the webnovel. Given only those two sources, it seems ambiguous as to whether he never touched her again after he knew OR after their wedding night. What do you think?

hey!! i am always happy to go digging around in the text for literally any reason at all, but for this one i feel pretty confident that i don’t need to, because i agree that it is left ambiguous at least insofar as whether or not jgy was intimate with qin su again before their wedding. however, my personal read is that i do think he had no choice but to consummate the marriage on their wedding night.

which is just. fucking awful—for jgy, of course, because He Knows (and is horrified), and awful for qin su precisely because she doesn’t know. but i imagine she can tell something is wrong, if the way zzj plays it in cql is any indication. like… look at his face.

he looks like he’s going to be physically ill.

the reason i think they likely were intimate on their wedding night is because i don’t see how he could have avoided it without bringing a lot of undue criticism and scrutiny down upon himself and qin su both. i don’t know if it would have been customary for the marriage bed to be, uh, inspected the morning after, but even if something that invasive weren’t expected, i suspect there were other risks factors to consider. what if qin su fretted to her maids or friends about her new husband treating her coldly? what if those rumours made it back to qin su’s father? (jgs isn’t her dad, he’s just the shitty sperm donor ok) given how hard jgy had to fight to get the marriage approved in the first place, it seems likely that qin su’s father might seize on an opportunity to annul his daughter’s marriage to jgs’s most ambitious bastard, in hopes of securing a different match for her. which might have been the best scenario for everyone involved—if qin su weren’t, you know, already pregnant. and jgy knows firsthand what happens to women who are pregnant out of wedlock.

so, yes, those are my thoughts on the matter. tl;dr i do think jgy consummated his marriage to qin su, and then proceeded to never touch her ever again. that much i definitely believe is indisputable truth, not just because jgy says so himself, but because as you pointed out, qin su makes it clear that jgy never touched her again, too. and she has no reason to ‘perform’ this narrative for anyone else, since as far as she knows, she is only speaking to jgy in the jinlintai treasure room.

Though Qin Su's mother had her maid Bicao, (Watsonian observation) Qin Su has no maid by the time we see her, which coincidently is also after Mianmian has already left her sect. 🔍 Is any of this related? Who knows!

ok what happened to Deshan aged 17?

OH BOY GOOD MORROW GUYS, I JUST WOKE UP BUT-

This is still being work on and I keep changing certain factors of what happened, and I might ditched it altogether- but all I know is that: it hinders them, it pushes them into obeying the Keeper, and it pushes Deshan to distant themselves from Viveras.

There are these themes I want to tie into them as well and an event that, well, just pushes them. Its an moment of forced-maturity for them and it's something that hinders them. Something that just eats at them in recent years, especially with their position as an Inqusitior. This event pushes them into the mindset we have in DAI. The roles, the responsibility, the job versus the emotion, morals, and sense of self. Something I'm trying to weave together to make Deshan's story.

And as I said, it's might change it due to some distasteful things- but I can tell you what pushed Deshan to do the things they did- the mistakes they made. And I want to stress it, but a teen should never be put into these positions. What happened is tragic and if I were to write the scene, I would want to focus on the complex tragedies- not the impact it had on Deshan. If that make sense? I'm still a bit sleepy.

Deshan disobeyed an order from the Keeper - pride is strong when you're young. And it was their pride - they're confidence in their skills and hope- as well as their anger - something that was stewing on the back burner for quite a while- that motivated Deshan to join a group. "It was for a good cause, it's for the People. We can do this, especially with my skills and knowledge." - those were many thoughts that would pass Deshan when they worked.

But the truth is, a lot of their motivation was due to their rage, they wanted revenge. Their rage was the back burner, their sense of justice twisted- and it made them do stupid things. I mean, a spy who's still a teem, a kid, being put into a position with an inability to deal with their emotions? They're going to do stupid things, and it got people killed.

Little rebel got lost in their wave of emotions and their pride and sense of justice- that now all thats left is the blood on their hands and a scent of death.

You're chilling in a coffee shop when your neighbor, who you have never said anything to except the normal greetings, plop in the seat in front of you, looking like he wants to say something. Fifteen mins later, you're home and he's sitting on your couch. He's there to ask for advice, relationship advice but acting as if he's a wanted criminal. "How do I reject a girl who's father is military and survive to confess to the hot guy that lives across from us? I really need help. I'm semi intoxicated and desperate." (And begs that you'll find him justice if he gets murdered cuz 'thats what forensic ppl do, right?)

Maybe an hour later, said daughter of military dad breaks down your door and looking like she's about to murder this man.

(Also, your apartment building of 28 floors and 10 apartments each floor, except 28th. You on top floor with only 3 large penthouse like apartments. (Yes, you rich) You KNOW who the hot guy is, the young doctor. Desperate guy is elementary school teacher. Crazy woman is destroying tour property.)

The day was pretty standard, in my opinion.  It was a nice, sunny day, bit of a cool breeze…perfect weather

And what better way to spend the day than in a coffee shop?

As I sat at my table, working on some work, my neighbor, whom I had met maybe all of…three times, sat down before me

“Um…you’re…Sun Tian Li, right?”

“Yes…can I help you?”

“Can we talk somewhere…private?”

I looked at him for a moment before I sighed heavily

“I guess”

My neighbor smiled at me brightly, like a big, excited puppy, and I internally groaned

‘It’s too fucking early for this’

After I packed up my things, we left the café and headed back to our apartment complex, taking the elevator to my apartment on the top floor

“Holy shit, I didn’t know you lived up here”

“Mmhm.  Come in”

I then unlocked the door and stepped inside, holding the door open for him before I motioned to the couch

“Make yourself comfy”

My neighbor then walked over to the couch and sat down as I stood in front of him and crossed my arms

“So…first of all, what’s your name?  We’ve met all of three times”

My neighbor blinked before he smiled

“Jiang Shuo”

I nodded

“Okay, Jiang Shuo, what do you need?”

“Okay, so there’s this girl that really likes me, and she’s nice, but I’m scared to say “no” whenever she asks me out because I don’t like her like that and because her father’s in the military and I’m afraid that if I upset her, his ass will come knocking on my door and kill me for upsetting her”

I blinked a few times again before I shook my head

“Why would he threaten you for saying no?”

“Because apparently she’s a daddy’s girl and from other people that I’ve heard, she’s gotten her father to take care of her boyfriends whenever they upset her”

“He sounds more like the triads to me, but whatever”

Jiang Shuo then looked at me earnestly

“If I die, you’ll get me justice right?  Cuz that’s what you forensic people do?”

“I mean, yeah, sure, but like…dude.  He’s not going to freaking murder you”

“He might!”

I gave him a look

“Have you like slept at all?  Your eyes look a little crazed”

Jiang Shuo laughed weakly

“Ah…I’m a little hungover and I also had a lot of caffeine…which probably wasn’t a good combination…”

“Nope, not a good combination”

I then smiled

“So you like Dr. Qin, huh?”

Jiang Shuo’s eyes widened

“You know him?”

I shrugged

“I mean, I see him sometimes if I have to go to the hospital for a case.  He’s nice”

Jiang Shuo smiled dreamily

“Yeah, he is”

I smirked

“Damn, you’re down bad for this man.  Have you two even talked?”

Jiang Shuo shook his head

“No…I mean, I see him sometimes whenever we take the bus home cuz we take the same line but…I’ve never worked up the courage to talk to him”

I hummed, just as my door suddenly was broken down, causing me and Jiang Shuo to see a crazed woman standing in the entrance of the doorway, her eyes murderous as she stared Jiang Shuo down

“Yah!”

The woman then looked at me as I motioned to my door

“You gonna fucking pay for that or what?”

The woman looked at the door, then back at me, before she huffed

I then pushed myself to my feet as I stormed over to her

“You are breaking and entering.  Should I call the police?”

The woman ignored me and shoved me out of the way as she stormed over to Jiang Shuo, looming over him

“Why won���t you go out with me?”

Jiang Shou’s eyes widened and his mouth open and closed like a fish gasping for air when I sighed

“Because he doesn’t fucking like you”

The woman spun around and looked at me with crazed eyes

“What?!”

I looked at her calmly

“I’m trying to not lose my shit over the fact that you broke down my fucking door so read my lips: he.  doesn’t.  like.  you”

The woman’s eyes widened as I sighed and crossed my arms

“You’ve never had someone tell you no before, have you?  Not really surprised, considering how you’re acting like a spoiled brat right now throwing a tantrum…”

The woman huffed

“I’m not a spoiled brat”

“Mm.  I’d beg to differ”

Just then, two security guards showed up at the door

“Everything alright, Ms. Sun?”

I looked over at them before I motioned to the woman

“Please remove her from my house.  She’s trespassing”

The security guards nodded and stepped inside, grabbing her by the arms before guiding her out

“Come on, Ms. Yuan”

“Let me go!  Let go!”

She then turned to glare at me

“My daddy will hear about this!”

I nodded solemnly

“I’m sure he will”

I then looked down at my door and sighed

“Great…now I gotta fix that…”

“Um…”

I then turned to look at Jiang Shuo, who looked a little embarrassed

“Sorry about that”

I waved my hand

“Nah, you’re fine.  Now come on, I’ve got a doctor to introduce you to”

Jiang Shuo’s eyes widened

“Huh?”

I rolled my eyes before I walked over to him and grabbed him by the arm

“Come on”

We then headed to the elevator and rode it down to the lobby before we headed out and headed to the apartment building across the street

We then stepped inside and rode the elevator up to the top floor, Jiang Shuo looking over at me in shock

“How do you know where his apartment is?”

I smiled

“Ah, we had a case here once.  The victim’s apartment was a few doors down from his”

Jiang Shuo nodded slowly

“Oh…”

Once we reached the floor, we walked over to one of the apartments and knocked on the door, the door soon opening to reveal the resident, Dr. Qin Yiheng

“Oh, Sun Tian Li.  What uh…what are you doing here?”

I smiled

“I wanted to introduce you to my friend, Jiang Shuo”

Qin Yiheng then looked at Jiang Shuo, his eyes widening slightly

“Oh, I’ve seen you before.  We ride the same bus home”

Jiang Shuo blinked before he nodded

“Yeah”

Qin Yiheng then motioned inside

“Uh…do you want to come in for tea or something?”

I smiled and shook my head

“I actually have something to take care of back at my apartment but Jiang Shuo would love a cup of tea, wouldn’t you?”

Jiang Shuo blushed slightly before he looked at Qin Yiheng

“Yeah, uh, I don’t mind”

Qin Yiheng smiled and took a step back, holding open the door

“Come in”

Jiang Shuo dipped his head and stepped inside, Qin Yiheng closing the door before looking at me as I winked at him, smiling slightly

Qin Yiheng blushed and quickly shut the door as I cackled softly before I sighed

“Great, now I gotta call the landlord to fucking fix my door…ugh”

I then smiled to myself slightly

“But playing matchmaker was fun”

Who are your favorite and/or least favorite characters in mdzs/cql?

OKAY I decided the only way to get this done without writing a novel is to not elaborate, so feel free to ask for more details. This is based on how much I like them as characters to think about and/or play around with in a fandom way, not a judgment on who they are as people.

Favorites: Jin Guangyao, Lan Wangji, Lan Xichen, Jiang Cheng

Least favorites: Xue Yang, Jin Zixuan

Hello hi for your superpower how do you think lancer li shuwen would think of qin liangyu or qin shi huang?

For both there is respect, like anyone, he respects his ancestors and the figures he probably learned about during his youth.

For Qin Liangyu specifically, Li Shuwen remains respectful around her to start though certainly his interest is sparked due to the fact that they're both Chinese Lancers. He's interested in how she fights and what style she uses, and while she has a similar outlook, she's definitely not as studious as he is when it comes to observing his spearmanship.

As servants who are both Chinese and lancers, they walk in a few of the same circles, as for any Chinese holiday the Chinese Servants try and meet up to maintain that cultural bond and the Lancers are sometimes rounded up for "Class bonding", so they would end up getting closer. I wouldn't say that they are friends like he is with Yan Qing and Jing Ke, but he's definitely put her in the same category as Xaunzang, Nezha, Chen Gong, and Lu Bu of "Fun to interact with". When prompted, he'd state that she seems like an "elder sister who has her head on straight" and he respects her flexibility, especially if they're fighting together. Qin Liangyu's perspective on Li Shuwen is that he's wild and blunt but not in a bad way. She was certainly put off with how he's the type who does things as he pleases more often than not, but she's able to adapt and actually thinks it's interesting when he does something a bit more unpredictable in a fight that forces her to change how she thinks and perceives the tide of battle.

(Assassin Li is more or less similar, we know that he doesn't have memories of LB3 and has to be told about it, but he's respectful to start and ends up treating her a bit like a niece. He calls her a "respectable young woman who is humble and trustworthy" when asked. She thinks he's a much calmer man and respects him as an elder despite their birth years being so far apart.)

For Qin Shi Huang specifically, it's very different. Again, there's that respect factor at first, though Li Shuwen isn't extremely interested in the former Emperor. He lived under ~ three in his lifetime, so it's not like its a big wow and shock factor like it would be if, lets say, someone in modern-day America met royalty for the first time. They're not close, but he'll show respect to Qin Shi Huang when needed. He does respect the Emperor's fighting prowess, though was mildly put off when he learned about LB3. Fundamentally, their ideals don't exactly align, and he thinks it's really fucking weird that his Elder LB Self was essentially kept like a pet. He doesn't avoid Qin Shi Huang, but they're not friends, and he doesn't go out of his way to find him if he can help it. Qin Shi Huang on the other hand seems mildly interested but only because they remember Li Shuwen's Lostbelt life, but their interest is primarily elsewhere in Chaldea.

(Assassin Li is also respectful and reserved, and a bit warier than Lancer Li Shuwen about the whole Lostbelt 3 Thing but eventually that settles down and it's fine. Qin Shi Huang is more interested than Li Shuwen is on both accounts, but Assassin Li is more likely to talk or listen longer than Lancer Li is.)

All in all: Li Shuwen isn't exactly all that close with either, but as they all walk in the same cultural circle of being Chinese, they are at least respectful and cordial to one another. He's closer to Qin Liangyu than Qin Shi Huang as a Lancer, neutral on both fronts as an Assassin.

Could I request Qin Shi Huang, Heracles, and Hades comforting their s/o after they killed a bunch of people who attacked them? Their covered head to toe in blood, panting, their clothes are torn, and their weapon's broken.

Qin Shi is very attracted to strength. So physical representations of that are very pleasing to him.

When they come into the throne room, blood, battered, and beautiful, to the hushed whispers of his court, the God King even rises from his throne to greet and congratulate them publicly. His real praise comes later in private.

He would have a new weapon made for them, to replace the one broken and commemorate their victory. Having their greatest smiths in the land forge it out of steel like his beloved.

As a solider, he’s not unaccustomed to seeing people come back from the battle field in this state. However he is unaccustomed to seeing them that way.

Heracles immediately rushes to their side to make sure they are alright. Worried they are hurt or injured.

When they insist that they are fine, he shifts into ‘proud puppy’ mode and congratulates them on their victory. Scoping them up and spinning them around.

Although they insist that they are fine, and Heracles does believe them, he’s very protective of them for the rest of the evening as he wants nothing else to happen to them.

The fights in the Underworld were always bloody and violent. Hades’s court is the first line of defense against the Titans. So it’s not unusual.

Still, he wishes they would have called him. He could have helped; not that they especially need it.

Hades is very gentle and soothing to them. Making sure not to make any sudden movements or touches to them, as the adrenaline might still kick in and they could snap.

He has the servants draw them a hot bath and has a hot meal ready for them. Telling them that they did a good job and he’s proud of them.
