1. How many works do you have on ao3?
67, soon to be 68 with the Trick or Treat Fest ficlet I've written!
2. What's your total ao3 word count?
359,280
3. What fandoms do you write for?
One Direction. I've written some 1d rare pairs which adds BBC Radio 1, Music, Fashion Model, and Actor RPF to my fandoms list in ao3.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Nailed By Louis, Not Another Lonely Christmas, All That You Need, The Prince and The YouTuber, Take on Me
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Not right away but I do respond. I read them as soon as I see the email notification, but I wait to respond until I need a boost. It's so nice to reread every comment in my inbox as I respond.
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Surprisingly not the one that ends with MCD! My angstiest ending is a 500 word girl direction ficlet The Phantom Heart.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I love happy endings so it's tough to pick! I'm going to go with We're Getting Better With Time because it's about second chances, so the ending feels like a new beginning for their love.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
The closest thing I've gotten to hate was a tweet about Premier Fantasies where someone was appalled by the Harry Styles/Ted Lasso pairing. It wasn't aimed at my writing, just the choice in pairing, so I took it as a compliment that I could write something that shocked people.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do write it, but not as much as I used to. When I started writing I felt so much pressure to add smut into every fic because it gets better engagement, more hits, etc. But the more I've written, the less I care about the numbers.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I've written a couple of crossovers! Premier Fantasies is Harry Styles in the Ted Lasso universe, which was crazy just because of the pairing. I had a lot of fun writing dialogue for Ted in this one. The craziest plot-wise is Love and Other Antidotes, which is a One Direction take on Emperor's New Groove, and features Kronk, Disney style hijinks, and Harry as a little cow!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of. I think short fics and rare pairs tend to be stolen less often, so so far I've been safe.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I don't allow translations, but someone did post a translation of one without asking. I have mixed feelings about translations.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I have not. I feel like as a capricorn I would want to have too much control over the story for it to be a good idea.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
I read and write Larry fics the most, but I also love Niall/Greg James as a pairing and think their dynamic is so underrated.
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
My very first fic. It's a werewolf pack fic I started plotting in 2017. I didn't get very far before hitting some major plot holes that I was too inexperienced as a writer to be able to fill. I have grown so much as a writer since then that it wouldn't be the same fic with the same purpose as when I started writing it.
16. What are your writing strengths?
My biggest strength is that I write for myself. I love writing short oneshots even though long fics are get more kudos. I adore the humor of crack fics, even though angsty fics get more hits. I will tackle any new rare pair I want, even if I'm the only person that will read it.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I am a creature of habit and my habits have been disturbed. I'd worked hard to develop a habit of writing a couple of times a week, and it was going so well. But after moving and other life changes in the last year, it's been difficult to find the time or energy to write. I wish I could flip on the motivation like a switch.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
There are a couple of books I remember because of the author's use of code switching throughout the dialogue, and I think it can be really powerful for some stories. But since English is my native language, I would only use it for my own writing if it added to the story, and if had the time to properly research and get it reviewed.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
The phandom in 2016 but I didn't post it back then. One Direction was the first fandom where I shared my fic.
20. Favourite fic you've written?
I'm going to do this by category because I can't choose only one:

Happy five years of fic posting to me! 🎉
No but seriously, where have five years gone? They've shot by in a flash.*
*That was a pun. Hope you're proud of me.
On 21st Dec, 2017, I posted The Centre Cannot Hold, a neurodivergent Ray Palmer fic. (After a conversation with @habibialkaysani when she encouraged me to write what I wanted to read. It's all her fault!)
So here's a self-made fic meme to celebrate...
Soph’s Fic Meme
My favourite of my fics is... the rarely-read ColdWave neighbourfic, Mending Wall. There's a cute kid, lots of feels, and far more rambly plot than I was expecting when I started.
My fluffiest fic is... maybe the ColdFlash coffee shop meet-cute Better Latte Than Never - but the sequels are an angst fest (sorry, @blueelvewithwings!). Or there's this coldwestallen ficlet about pillows. (Literally) as fluffy as I get. It will never happen again.
My funniest fic is... the Retired Rogues series. In which retirement is not going so well for our ColdWave, till Mick takes things into his own hands. (I can't do funny, so I'm quite proud of these. I'm also quite proud to have been accused of Problematic Fic, for Mick plotting behind his partner's back. Sure, that's the most problematic thing about... ColdWave. 😁)
My saddest fic is... Rebuild, from deep in the depths of my angst-writing days. But it was hard to choose, for there are too many.
A fic I almost didn't post is... The Way Out (Mick Rory and self harm - read the content warnings). Write what you need to write, kids, even if involves stigma or you get ableism for it. Someone will be glad you did. Someone might be you.
The fic I had most fun writing is... Stealing Time & Saving Time. In which Len can't deal with his new powers and the boys can't deal with each other... until Iris steps in and bashes their heads together. (Can't have ColdWestAllen without the traditional Iris head-bashing.)
My favourite ship to write is... ColdWave. Still. Always. Gehenna is the ColdWave headcanon that I will be still talking about in the nursing home when I'm 90. The nurses will ask, of the roguish criminals they think I might have made up, "Did you know them when you were young, love?" and I will smile and nod.
My favourite femslash ship to write is... NewsHacker. They are perfect. The Mystery was fun to write. Zamaya are another fave.
My favourite OT3 to write is... You're expecting ColdWestAllen, aren't you? And you'd be right. But I have a soft spot for Rogue Canary too.
My favourite non-romantic pairing to write is... Len and Lisa. Love a sibling relationship that complicated. Many headcanons.
My favourite character to write is... Mick Rory. Still. Always. (You can tell because I've written 45 fics with him in.) Here's one.
My favourite neurodiversity fic is... Runs in the Family, with ADHD speedsters. I loved writing my ND Legends fics (like Meds) too.
The fic I remember writing most clearly is... Words. Inspired by a prompt/thought from @stungunmilly2 about autistic Mick, who struggles with spoken words but can't stop writing them. And then I couldn't stop writing it for three days. Writer!Mick is a mood.
My favourite 'written out of spite' fic is... Still Queer (Captain Canary)
My most-read fic is Can't Take That Away From Me (ColdFlash). I'm pretty happy to see it in first position, on balance. It was fun to write. (And I'm really sorry about still leaving the sequel unfinished)
My least-read fic is (Getting Past the) Pride and Prejudice - pt 2 of a NewsHacker series that is admittedly not very good, but still - Iris/Zari, okay?
The WIP I most regret not finishing is... Take The Keys (And Drive Forever). Lisa Snart-centric, would have been KillerGold if I'd got far enough with the Caitlin part, and it was going to be spooky.
My favourite gen fic is... Remember. Zari Tomaz's last moments in the timeline.
My crackiest fic is... (Here's To The) Tears and Beers and Wasted Years. ColdWestAllenWave with comedy therapy and time travel and being trapped and phobias and evil doppelgangers and flashbacks and future kids and feels. You're welcome.
And finally... it's Winter Solstice. Have an (old) Christmas fic. It's a (mostly) cute folk tale AU. A Single Matchstick to Light a Fire.

Currently only Lockwood & Co., but I used to write a lot of Check, Please! back in the day.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
lol they're all OMGCP. like a handprint on my heart (2,880 kudos), i'll see you with your laughter lines (2 412 kudos), until your father's at the table (1 702), smaller than dust on this map (1 222), Blue-Eyed Jack (1 051)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
yes! i want people to know how much I appreciate their feedback, and i enjoy interacting with the community. if i didn't, i wouldn't publish my fic i would just hoard it for myself haha
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
hmmmmm well i do like to kill main characters for the angst so probably either rage, rage against the dying of the light (lockwood fic written I think right after Whispering Skull came out? god what a cheesy title) or anything for one more hour of light (written for the check please heartbreak 2017 fest)
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
i tend towards happy endings in fic so that's a lot of them lol. maybe like a handprint on my heart?
8. Do you get hate on fics?
i get occassionally rude comments on ao3 itself but never anything really bad. i used to get quite a few nasty anons on here though. some people will REALLY go out of their way to tell you exactly why your writing is cringe.
9. Do you write smut. If so what kind?
i did during my stint in the check, please! fandom but i don't really write it anymore. i would definitely call my past smut messy (in many ways).
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
i like to do crossover AUs -- harry potter aus, hunger games aus, etc. -- but I cannot remember the last time I did a proper crossover. it might've been back in my twilight days, if ever.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that i'm aware of! i honestly haven't even heard of fic stealing since the days of ff.net but i guess it's not surprising it's still rampant
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
yes! at least one in russian, i want to say another in mandarin. i would have to go back and find them, and some might be gone.
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
not fully cowritten, but @ghosthorse and i like to plot out stories together. we have a couple original stories half-baked in google docs from when we were living in different states and got REALLY bored at work.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
my ships change with the tides. i'm a pretty big sucker for locklyle, though, and zimbits. i tend towards rare-pairs and non-canon pairings though.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
every WIP i've ever started lol. but i would like to get back to for it's better to burn out than to fade out of sight (fruits basket) though i doubt i will.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I tend to capture the voices of characters decently well. I love writing dialogue and banter.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
EVERYTHING ELSE HAHAHAHAHHA (crying). I've been told my writing is very cringy and I tend to agree. I struggle with plot and pacing, I don't spend enough time on setting or building up to important scenes/moments, I almost never edit before I post, I'm very bad about contradicting myself between chapters or creating plot holes, I overuse adjectives and adverbs and commas and em-dashes and semicolons, I love a run-on sentence, I misuse big words, and I have a tendency to rely too heavily on the same couple of phrases -- e.g. taken aback, testament to, gave them pause, blood ran cold, face grew hot, etc.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I generally don't do it, but if you do, run it by a native speaker first.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
First wrote for Harry Potter or Bartimaeus, first published for Twilight.
(Okay not QUITE accurate. I technically published HP fic but on my own shitty HTML website. My dad wouldn't let me join any fic site because I was too young, but he saw it as a great chance to get my to learn HTML. It was called "Visions of Red and Gold" and I posted my shitty fanfiction and mine and my friends' fanart.)

oh this is hard. i'm currently very fond of Jessica Lockwood’s Home for Misfit Ghost Hunters, it's been a delight to work on. but my all-time fave is probably until your father's at the table. it was incredibly cathartic to write.

Living Like a Freak
Summary: Matthew and Randall have a nice relaxing day planned, but unexpected guests arrive to add a touch of excitement in their lives.
“Could you stop fidgeting for two seconds? I’m trying to concentrate.”
“Sorry, sorry.”
Matthew took in a deep breath and closed his eyes, making his muscles relax even with Randall kneeling across his lower back, wielding a scalpel and grinning.
“Any requests?”
“You put anything remotely close to your name and I’ll skin you,” Matthew said with his tone far too languid to pose any threat.
Randall chuckled and gave his ass a pat, running his hands covered in cool latex, over Matthew’s sensitive skin. “One portrait of Bugs Bunny, coming up.”
Matthew yelped and glared back at his mate, the joke echoing across their bond and making both of them smile. He still had trouble believing the love that burned like fire when Randall looked at him but moments like this brought it to an inferno.
“Relax babe. I’ve got you.” Randall brushed the scalpel down his back, the touch of metal cool in the heat of the evening and Matthew moaned into the pillow under his head.
The first cut stung, but Matthew kept still and soon a warm buzz settled into his skin and the constant stroke of Randall’s hands along his sides told him he was safe, protected. The pain bloomed and faded with each pass of the scalpel until his whole body radiated a pleasant haze. The pulse of love and care from their bond cemented Matthew’s pleasure and he groaned as the blade worked lower.
“Almost done,” Randall said, his voice soft and dreamlike.
Matthew could barely move, caught in a bubble of sensation, a space where he felt protected and safe, even with blood dripping down his back to gather on the plastic sheet underneath him.
The knife strokes stopped and Randall placed soothing kisses to the undamaged sections of his skin. Matthew sent a flood of happiness through their bond and a growl echoed in response.

As if Gareth didn’t intend on paying for the whole dinner.
The… thing between them wasn’t exactly a newborn but it was still fresh enough that Gareth liked the idea of being gallant and paying for both their meals; when they had used to meet up just to whine about work with someone who had a high enough clearance and to watch cricket matches, it had been different - more formal: every bill had been split down to the cent, there had always been a sort of tension that hadn’t really allowed them to relax.
Gareth wasn’t sure when that tension had evolved into something different, he just knew he was grateful that it had.
When he went back to their table, two beers in hand and the receipt of their food order tucked in the breast pocket of his jacket, Bill had put the laptop away and was glaring at his phone: it didn’t take much imagination to know that it most definitely was about something work-related; Gareth wished sometimes that they could just… turn everything off and enjoy a nice meal together without having to fear an international crisis to ruin their dates “Do I need to ask for our meals to be packed up for takeaway?” there simply was no reason to huff and puff about it: if they needed to go, they simply would.
It was the nature of the job.

2021 Fic Year in Review

A little less than eighty this year?

Around 200k or something.

Atonement (the movie, not the book), Captain Marvel (2019), X-Men Comicverse & Movieverse, Shame (2011), Filth (2013), Captain America (Movies), Alien (Prequels), Wanted (2008), The Gifted (TV 2017), It (again the Muschietti Movies, not the book).
Looking Back, Did You Write More Fic Than You Thought You Would This Year, Less, Or About What You’d Expected?
I don't remember having any expectations at the start of this year, but I was certainly surprised that I powered through Flufftober like I did (I didn't even intend to participate and then suddenly I was writing fics daily). Otherwise, I'm a bit sad that multi-chapter fics appear to be just too difficult for me. Maintaining motivation for one story over a longer time span isn't easy.
What’s Your Own Favorite Story Of The Year?
No idea. I really liked writing for some X-Men rare pairs though - especially the sapphic ones.
Did You Take Any Writing Risks This Year?
For the X-Men Rare Pair Fest, I wrote a trans!woman x enby pairing, and it made me sweat so hard skdfjkaljdkh because I was so scared of doing something wrong.
Do You Have Any Fanfic Or Profic Goals For The New Year?
Attempt to write a multi-chapter fic? Also give less of a shit about comments or writing and posting regularly or reading other people's works when I'm just not interested in it. None of the mentioned things helped my mental health this year.
Most Popular Story Of The Year?
For that I'd have to consult my statistics and I'm too lazy to do that.
Story Of Mine Most Under-Appreciated By The Universe, In My Opinion:
All rare pairs!! Seriously, especially in the X-Men fandom, if you read a rare pair fic and like it, comment. Do something to keep the authors motivated, or else you'll soon have no content anymore (of which there is already precious little).
Most Fun Story To Write:
Anything I didn't have to grind out for a deadline (: And I really liked that Witcher Joseph x Erik AU from Flufftober!!
Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
No. Do Not Perceive Me.
Biggest Disappointment:
Oh there were some but they're more linked to people's general I-don't-see-how-I-need-to-comment-even-though-I-consume attitude than to any specific fic.
Biggest Surprise:
My sudden energy surge for Flufftober - and my slowly drifting away from reading Cherik works that don't tick all my boxes.
My Favorite Part Of Fandom This Year:
Dragneto. Any post with them is a blessing, and I thank every artist who puts their talents to drawing them in all their glory.

5) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
So far, it’s my Zouis spy fic because it still has an ambiguous ending, until I can finish writing the rest of the story.
6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
I love a good happy ending, so almost all of them! One of my favorite endings I’ve written is for my alpha!Niall/beta!Greg James fic, Now All The Clouds Been Lifted because it wrapped up the fic so nicely and was inspired by something Greg actually posted on instagram.
7) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
Love and Other Antidotes is the only one so far! I wrote it as a pinch hitter for the Disney Direction fest. It’s a modern Emperor’s New Groove au with Harry/Louis, but kept Kronk and Yzma as characters! It was incredibly fun to step into a cartoon world and I was so impressed at how it all came together.
8) Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Yes, sometimes. I’m currently working on part 3 of the pearls series, but I’m really struggling to find any motivation to write the smut part of the pwp 😅
9) Do you respond to comments, why or why not? I do respond to comments, but I usually leave them in my inbox for a bit and savor them.
10) Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I haven’t, but I have had a couple of people leave some meh comments in the bookmarks
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don’t think so
12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, I personally don’t allow translations
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope, my motivation to write is not very consistent so I would be nervous to
14) What’s your all time favorite ship?
I’m pretty one-track-minded when it comes to fandoms and 99.9% of fic I read/write is from 1D fandom. I mostly read/write larry fics, but have started to embrace rare pairs in the past few years!
15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I have 3 main ideas that come to mind
Calling For You - this is the very first larry fanfic I started to write back in 2017, but I never figured out the main conflict so it’s just an outline of random notes
Holy Water Flows - I started plotting this long, intense larry sick!fic based on a prompt I got from the 1000 feelings challenge, but the fandom’s view of several tropes I planned to include scared me away from actually writing it
Covid Island Research Fic - this would be a gender-swapped larry fic with biologist!Louis and geologist!Harry living on a remote island throughout 2020 to avoid the pandemic while Louis monitors the nesting of the endangered seabirds and Harry researches the increasing erosion that is threatening the island.
16) What are your writing strengths?
I’m usually great at writing dialogue between characters and I love coming up with crazy and ridiculous plots.
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
I always forget to track the characters’ motivations and emotions. Sometimes I get stuck on a scene and have to just sit and think until I figure out why a character is doing X so that I can get them to Y.
18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I would try to avoid it unless I had help from someone that actually spoke the language.
19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?
The first fic I posted was for 1d but I had one fic for the phandom that I wrote and didn’t post
20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
I love so many of my fics for different reasons! But I’ll pick one to share. Changing Weather (For Worse or For Better) is a 5+1 times fic and I got one of my favorite comments ever on it! Someone mentioned that the weather is a character in this fic, and I didn’t realize until they pointed it out, but the weather is so integral to the fic, it really is like its own entity.

Haikyuu!! Rare Pair Fic Recs
i’ve been so hype about some Hq rarepairs lately now imma list some of my fav fanfics, mostly OiSuga mwehehe....

Oisuga (Oikawa x Sugawara)
1. Stuck in the Middle With You by overlymetaromantic
It's not the kind of blossoming relationship either of them would expect, but maybe, just maybe, it could lead to something good.
1. In which Suga and Oikawa run into each other on a late night convenience store run.
2. In which Suga and Oikawa inadvertently switch bags and end up with the other’s uniform.
3. In which Suga gives Oikawa the lecture he doesn't want but probably needs, and Oikawa might accidentally be a little in love.
4. In which Oikawa won't shut up about Suga, and Iwaizumi plays matchmaker just to make him stop.
5. In which there is not a date, and Suga likes spicy things much more than sweet.
6. In which Karasuno and Aobajousai hold training camps in the same neck of the woods, and the trip back proves to be more revealing than it probably should.
7. In which there might just be a future to this after all.

‘You’ll do what?’ Oikawa looks up through his glasses, eyes wide and confused as the other students stream in around them.
‘The fake dating thing, I’ll do it.’
‘Fuck. Yes.’ Oikawa says with a fist pump.
(It’s been AGES since i read Fake/Pretend Relationship fic, this one is goood)

Tooru does not have a problem, its name is certainly not Sugawara Koushi, and he is not going to the Karasuno practices just to watch him. Regardless of whatever Iwa-chan says.

That night when he goes to sleep, he includes "the safety of fairies" on his prayers, making a promise to whoever was listening him, that he'd protect all the fairies and keep their secret safe forever.
[Where Oikawa meets Suga when they are kids and Oikawa believes Suga is secretly a fairy and decides he has to protect his secret all costs.]
(This is basically matches my headcanon)

Suga feels like he’s back on the court then, his heart thudding hard in his ears… so hard he almost misses what Oikawa says. Unfortunately, though, he doesn’t.
"My, my. What a surprise," Oikawa Tooru says. And then… "Hello, Mr. Refreshing."
(Haven’t finished yet but DAMN I LOVE OIKAWA AND SUGA IN HERE, single dad! oikawa, and Suga babysitting oikawa’s kid, def slow burn. Imma follow this fic till death)
8. Dear Reader by hyirule
No one seems to read the paper anymore. But Oikawa likes to for the sports section. One day he finds himself reading a section called "Dear Reader" and finds a submission he can relate to.
Basically messages sent through a page on a newspaper brings to unlikely souls together, who maybe have more in common than they first thought.
(Cannon compliant, simple and... refreshing(?))

Tooru looks at the sleeping person beside him as he waits for the lights change into green. The growing fringe of his husband started to cover his eyes but he can still see the beautiful birthmark under the silver haired's left eye.

He thinks about himself, deleting contacts from his phone and throwing coffee cups away without even looking at the string of numbers scrawled in Sharpie ink underneath, and he’s tired of hiding, tired of carefully treading the lines he’d drawn for himself all those years ago.
Just this once, Tooru wants— he thinks he wants to be brave.
Oikawa Tooru is not a stranger to wanting.
(like... 20% Oisuga but i like the way this story follows the Cannon till he get to Argentina)

Every time Tooru had envisioned meeting his soulmate, it was a confession of love, filled with tears of happiness and a lot of making out. It would be a faceless petite girl that would support Tooru in whatever he chose to pursue and would understand when Tooru prioritized volleyball over all else.

After all, what could be worse than playing on the same team as Ushijima?
(It was funny for me reading oikawa/ushijima fic with that “you should’ve come to Shiratorizawa” joke at first but somehow i found this one... endearing :3, cute poor ushiwaka)

Like the HP trans fest I considered intersex/genderqueer/nonbinary under this umbrella for this list.

Selection criteria
The fics are told in the POV of the trans character
Intro friendly. In the pairing fics, the love interests are supportive of the character. No fics with non-con, dub-con, A/B/O or mpreg. No dark fics. I linked bigger fest collections which have fics with those if you wanted them!
Doing repeat authors this time because I was having trouble with picks.

Reason for selection - Beautiful fic! Ron is Ron. Self sacrificing. Waiting to support Harry and Hermione through the war. Pushing aside the confusion and worry about gender identity. When she finally starts exploring this, Hermione is supportive. Their family also. Up to a point. Because some things no matter what support you have, you have to go through alone. Absolutely beautiful and gentle writing. Happy ending.
"We'll figure it out," Hermione said, with the winning confidence Ron remembered strikingly from the war, when there was no hope left at all and Hermione took on herself the burden of believing for all of them. She's good at that.
Rec note - c/w Transitioning, Surgery, Gender Dysphoria. It deals with serious topics. I had zero doubts about picking this fic for this list! It made such an impression on me.
Epic of the Forgotten

Pairing - Voldemort/Viktor Krum
Length - 25000 words
Reason for selection - The rare fic about an intersex character which doesn't go into A/B/O, mpreg or fetishization. A great look at Viktor dealing with what being intersex means for him and how it affects the relationship with Voldemort. The fic is brilliant at showing how Viktor handles a lot on his own. He's just got so much inner strength. Voldemort is weird. But he's supportive when it matters. I really like how they discuss the important stuff. It's a strong relationship, crazy as it sounds. Beautiful writing. You can really see Viktor's avoidance and worry in the first part and how he's getting more settled in his own skin in the second part.
There is no transitioning in this fic unlike a lot of the other fics I picked for the list. Happy ending. This is a soft introspective and relationship centric fic. Lots of smut. It can get intense in some parts. But it's overall pretty laid back.
I had not mustered the guts to touch myself there, even if I had determinedly gone off the potion in our separation. I had placed a mirror between my legs and found myself suffused with shame and a strange sense of resignation.
Rec note - This type of fic is seriously hard to find on AO3 in our fandom. If you want to try similar fics Communion by Celandine, Dudley Dursley and the Elusive Difference have similar vibes.

Reason for selection - A short and sweet feel good fic about Ginny's gender identity journey. Happy ending. Really supportive Harry.
"What if I were a guy?" you ask Harry two years into your marriage, holding a baby on your hip while Harry pokes at the stove until breakfast appears.
Harry just looks confused and shrugs. Sometimes you love how dense he is, how focused he gets on what's important and how everything else falls away. But right now, this is an important thing you need him to think about. "Then you'd be a guy, I guess," Harry says.

Reason for selection - This fic has a lot of like it or leave it type writing choices. I loved how honest the author's writing voice in the fic is. The pairing isn't a big part of the fic. It's mostly introspective. It focuses a lot on Draco's friendships with Pansy and Hermione, his relationships with his family and how he feels about himself. I really liked his friendship with Pansy.
Draco’s known he’s been this— trans —for a decade now, but something about having a word to put to the experience, something about the knowledge that there are others like him; other men like him, nineteen, laying sleeplessly in bed with some semblance of hope for once in their life—something about it all makes the entire thing feel more tangible, more real.
Rec note - c/w for internalized transphobia, PTSD.

Reason for selection - This fic has a punk anarchist community organizing take on Snape's characterization. Kingsley and Snape have a pretty fascinating relationship. Lots of clash in their jobs, their values, how they want to change things in society. YMMV on the characterizations. I loved the organizing and political part of the fic.
Sheena Snape is an old fart with a chip on her shoulder and a shitty punk band. Sheena Snape is dating the living embodiment of half-assed centrist appeasement. Kingsley Shacklebolt is the head of Magical Britain and not quite the man everything thinks they are. Kingsley Shacklebolt wants to hire their girlfriend for the Ministry-approved LGBT center.

Pairing - No pairing
Length - 10000 words
Reason for selection - Harry goes investigating Snape and Dumbledore after their deaths. This is an incredible fic with brilliant characterizations of Snape and Dumbledore and Harry. Dumbledore isn't lovable here. I felt sorry for both Dumbledore and Snape. I really loved how Snape's courage challenged Dumbledore. Powerful and emotional.
Past the lonely, curse-stricken, black-handed figure beside him, Harry looked up and faced the older woman out of the pair, in the mirror, and he could have sworn it was her who was speaking in a bare whisper, gentle as only a confession to a child can be. "Severus disgusted me once. For living his truth. Perhaps he is the brave one..."
The fic can get angsty and dark sometimes. But it doesn't really stay that way. Harry's determination and optimism keeps it moving in the right direction. Happy ending!

Pairing - Severus/Harry
Length - 50000 words
Reason for selection - A fic with a lot of realism about transitioning especially when it comes to self confidence, relationships and social support network. I really liked Harry's journey here. I loved the characterization for Severus and the role he plays here. Like the other fics on this list there is a lot of support for Harry from friends and family. But it's a personal journey in the end. Harry realizing that and making it work for him was one of the best parts about this fic. Happy ending! It's a really good longfic and focuses on Harry's journey. It's an emotional fic but it doesn't go overboard at any point.
And so, with his fists squarely at his side, with his head unbowed, he rises (cloak be cursed, unbound chest be damned), and steps around the sofa, face to face. Short and curvy and shaped all-wrong, but with fire and resolve that keep him from walking out the door. There's gotta be some of it in his stare, showing, because Snape's eyes widen and grow darker. They don't speak, for a brief second that stretches into eternity. See me as I am, dammit. Take me as I am. You're this close and I need you to be closer.
If you haven't read a longfic with a transitioning MC before, this is a great intro.

Pairing - Hannah Abbott/Justin Finch-Fletchley
Length - 7800 words
Reason for selection A moving and beautiful fic. It's got a lot of emotional connect. Really gentle and balanced writing looking at Justin's transitioning, his experience in Hogwarts and at other places, his friendships with Hannah and Ernie. It covers a lot of ground without a lot of words. I loved the realism in the fic. Like a lot of the fics on the list, it really drives home the message about being ok with yourself.
At the time, it felt like a kick to the stomach — as though whatever it was Hannah normally liked, Justin would always be an exception. In retrospect, maybe he was just so desperately exhausted and raw-hearted that in that moment nothing she could have said would have sounded right.
Rec note - The author has more fics with similar topics. I haven't read all their fics. But I definitely love the emotional connect in the fics I read so far. Thanks to /u/beta_reader for introducing me to the author's works!
The Comet

Pairing - No pairing.
Length - 1500 words
Reason for Selection - A beautiful short fic about Purab's life shown at two different sightings of the Halley's Comet. Feel good, soft and just perfect. Brilliant writing in the second-person pov.
And so, breathing in the night air, surrounded by peaceable cricket-song, you prove your mum's prediction half-right: You see the comet again, not as an old woman, but as an old and happy man.
Probably the most feel good fic on this list.
Rec note - The fic is in the second-person POV. Really immersive! HP Trans Fest 2021 has more fics like this.
