#SpeakNowTaylor Week (Jan 21-27) is a fandom-wide event with the aim of letting Taylor know that Swifties want her to demand a ceasefire.
In December, the United Nations voted, by an overwhelmingly majority, for a ceasefire in Gaza. Now, the International Court of Justice is hearing a case brought by South Africa that may lead to an order to stop aggressions against Palestinians within the next few weeks, even if the case takes years to conclude.
The world has not stopped showing up for Palestine. Protestors are out marching in the snow as Gaza enters a bitter winter with more than 23,000 dead and reports from humanitarian organizations around the world that more than half of its population is starving.
It's time for a big push. Taylor Swift's influence has been extensively documented in the last year: she's gotten tens of thousands of fans to register to vote, led to significant increases in viewership for the already wildly popular NFL, and caused mini economic booms in every state and country she's toured so far. The United States has lagged behind nearly every other country in the world in calling on Israel to halt its aggressions. As "Miss Americana," Taylor's influence could have a more important impact now than ever before.
To participate in #SpeakNowTaylor Week:
Share and promote the fandom event far and wide
Post #SwiftiesForCeasefire and #SpeakNowTaylor every day of the week
Repost our graphics, found at our website, on every social media platform, and tag #SwiftiesForCeasefire and #SpeakNowTaylor
Tag @taylorswift and @taylornation in your captions, as well as in the comments and notes of other #SwiftiesForCeasefire and #SpeakNowTaylor posts
Fandom creators: Make your own #SwiftiesForCeasefire and #SpeakNowTaylor posts and flood the tags
Follow @swiftiesforceasefire for more actions, as well as graphics that you can share or repost to your own accounts.
Let's say #SpeakNowTaylor as loudly as we can, and make sure that Taylor knows her fans are #SwiftiesForCeasefire!

Käärijä's Eurovision friend comes on tour to Finland - Some fans were bitterly disappointed
The Slovenian band Joker Out will perform in Finland this autumn. Some fans were disappointed, as tickets sold out in no time.
(Caption under the video: This is what Käärijä's concert was like at the Helsinki Ice Hall.)
Joker Out, who represented Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest with Carpe Diem, will be coming to Finland this autumn. The indie rock band, who sings in Slovenian and English, will perform in Helsinki, Tampere and Turku in September.
Tickets for the concerts went on sale on Friday morning. All three concerts sold out in no time.
Tickets for the Tampere and Helsinki shows were sold by Tiketti Oy. The great popularity was no surprise to the company.
- Already yesterday, when we published the information about the concerts, the attention we received on social media and the visits to our website indicated that the tickets would sell quickly, Mirva Merimaa, Tiketti's CEO, told to Iltalehti.

In Helsinki, the band will perform at Tavastia and in Tampere, the venue will be Olympia-kortteli. According to Merimaa, both gigs are small club gigs for less than 1000 people.
Merimaa cannot yet say whether additional tickets or concerts will be on sale. However, she estimates that the popularity of Eurovision artists has risen in recent years.
- The Eurovision Song Contest has increased the popularity of the artists and made them better known to the public. The Eurovision Song Contest has become a boom across Europe," says Merimaa.
Some fans who missed out were hugely disappointed. Bitter comments appeared on the band's Instagram account.

- It was impossible to get a ticket for the Helsinki show. Please add more gigs, one fan hoped in a comment thread.
- I wanted to buy a ticket for Tampere, but the tickets were already sold out. Could you please increase the number of concerts or move to a bigger arena, a social media follower asked on Instagram.
One possible reason for the band's popularity could be Käärijä aka Jere Pöyhönen. He became friends with Joker Out singer Bojan Cvjetićanin during the Eurovision Song Contest. The duo have kept in close contact even after the contest. Bojan recently performed at Käärijä's gig at Tavastia in Helsinki.

(Photo caption: Käärijä has shared several videos and photos with Bojan on social media. Henri Kärkkäinen)
In an interview with Iltalehti in May, Käärijä recalled how the duo became friends.
- At first we communicated with just facial expressions and gestures. We didn't talk much. Whenever we saw each other, we started laughing and our first conversation started with him laughing and me laughing, it didn't become a conversation at all.
- He's a fantastic guy. He's sympathetic and he takes everyone into consideration. He has a heart in the right place," Käärijä described his friend to Iltalehti.
Joker Out was founded in 2016. They have released two full albums. The band finished 21st in this spring’s Eurovision final. Finland gave Slovenia 7 points in the telephone vote in the final.

reposting and editing my ceasefire call script because it got taken down. don't lose traction now, none of this is over.
"Hello, *my name is [your name]. I am a constituent of [congressperson], and I am calling to inform you about the numerous genocides happening worldwide. At this point in time, you are likely already aware of the genocide of Palestinian and Ukranian people, but there are many more genocides happening in the world, and the overlooking of such happenings, while innocents continue to suffer, must end.

Currently, Congolese, Armenian, Tigrayan, Yemeni, Guatemalan, Rohingya, Haitian, Native American, Kashmiri, Kurd, Sudanese, Ukrainian, Palestinian, Argentinian, Afghan, Moroccan, Libyan, Syrian, Lebanese, West Papuan, Cameroonian, Burmese, Uyghurs, Iraqi, Somali, Hawai’ian, Puerto Rican, Senegalese, Kenyan, Ethiopian, Cuban and many more people are experiencing genocide (or close risk of it, according to genocidewatch.com), along with ethnic cleansing, displacement, restrictions on living necessities, and the like. Also currently, the United States government continues to be not only complicit, but supportive of these attacks out of ignorance and selfish benefit.
In order to maintain current support, it is dire that you take action on the side of the people. Please do research on each and take a look into doing whatever possible to save the innocent people around the world from living a life of constant abuse and murder.
Some things you can do, for example, include:
- Calling for (or implementing):
The appointment of special envoys
A reversal of the funding cuts to UNRWA
An increase in funding to and the development of NGOs providing humanitarian aid
A permanent and immediate ceasefire for relevant locations (such as Gaza)
- Voting NO on the supplemental funding package to send more weapons to Israel (if you are in the position to do so)
Thank you for your time. I trust that you will do what you would want other countries to do for us."
*before adding your name, check to see if your congressperson requires it. if not, dont give more information than required.
im going off of whats required in email forms for my congresspeople, but im not entirely sure if thats a good way to do it, so feel free to add if you have a better way, mainly for being able to know without having to ask directly, since i and others are calling while out of hours.

Definitely missed that poll too!
Yeah, I'm kind of really sad about it, because I'm the one that had asked for a version of the poll specifying if it was for the TV show or the videogame character, back in September.
Since then, I had periodically been checking on the @foundfamilyadoptionagency blog to see when submissions would reopen, so I could submit Radovid with a picture and description of the character, specifically from the TV show this time, and was planning to rally other fans (especially those that I know have a large number of Radovid/Radskier fans followers) of the character to reblog the poll so fans of the TV show and the character would hopefully see it.
I'm thinking of one person, in particular, that tends to make the notes on my own Radovid posts soar whenever she reblogs them.
But Destiny apparently had other plans, I completely missed it (therefore didn't vote, nor did I get the chance to increase its visibility among fans of the TV show and the TV show character) and, at some point, it would be ridiculous to just keep insisting for it to be reposted again and again, expecting a different result.
That being said, I was extremely surprised and very touched that they'd remembered it, though!
I was not expecting they'd be doing a second version without a reminder, or someone giving a proper submission, so a part of me went "OMFG! They're so sweet!", while at the same time face-palming that most fans I know seemed to have missed it.
I have a feeling that a lot of Radovid (show version) fans tend to check out the Radskier (Jaskier/Radovid ship) tag more often, too, since that allows us to avoid posts about the videogame character (and most Radovid posts are also connected to Jaskier and their relationship anyway).
Or they simply follow the few main blogs that keep creating and reblogging content about Radovid and Radskier directly to get their fix.
But yeah, given said main blogs did not appear to notice or repost the poll, I'm actually not at all surprised by the results.
Because "The Witcher" 's fandom is a bit of an eclectic mess of clashing ideologies, values, and extremes.
Including hardcore videogame fans that were expecting the TV show to religiously follow the narrative of the games, rather than create their own adaptation of the books.
So, while you will get people disliking Radovid for the usual (and perfectly valid, BTW) fandom reasons, such as:
They simply fail to emotionally connect or relate to him,
They feel like the show had been building a romance between Geralt and Jaskier for the first 2 seasons, only to instead pair him up with another newly introduced character in season 3.
You also have some videogame fans that are having a hard time treating these two characters as two completely different persons, and will even readily admit that they have an irrational dislike of Radovid based on his videogame counterpart.
Again, a fairly reasonable thing to happen that does affect the character's overall popularity, but usually those fans are pretty laid back about it and don't mind that people that only read the books and never played the games, or have only been watching the TV show, fell in love with the show's version of the character.
Videogame Radovid and TV show Radovid, are essentially two very different original characters that were created to serve very different purposes, that were vaguely inspired by a few lines from the books.
One is a villain people love to hate.
The other basically Netflix's version of a Disney Prince.
But then, you also have a very passionate and extremely vocal group of gamers (type "The Witcher" on YouTube, and get ready to enter incel territory!), that will be losing their shit over the fact that they made Radovid a super gentle and sensitive gay prince that admits to being scared, huddles and weeps in a corner when he finds out his guards have all been slaughtered, has a romance with Jaskier on the show, and is ready to leave his life at court behind to go chase after love; instead of the cruel, paranoid badass hypermasculine dictator king that was written for the 3rd videogame.
And then, there's also the argument that: "Jaskier is straight in the books and videogames! How dare they make Jaskier queer by having Radovid be written as Vizimir's adult younger brother instead of being his 12 y.o. son? They aged up a character just to make the show more woke and gay! It's so wrong! " we keep getting from queerphobic audiences.
Basically, TV show Radovid has been getting a large amount of hate from toxic subgroups of the gaming community ever since Jaskier was announced as being in a M/M relationship with him.
It's not even an issue they have with Radovid specifically, but the show in general.
There are entire YouTube channels devoted to hating on the show, it's creators, and everything they deem to be wrong with it, such as the way it focuses too much on Yennefer and Ciri when it's supposed to be called "The Witcher" (not "The Sorceress" or "The Child of Surprise"), having chosen to cast women with healthy and diverse body types (and ethnicities) to portray sorceresses that are described as the most beautiful women on the Continent in the books (when the videogames gave them more "conventionally attractive looking", and often white, in animated form), etc.
And that sort of general resentment towards the show for wishing to explore its own themes, being more inclusive, and taking their adaptation in a different direction than the games (and the books, at times, like most TV show and movie adaptations will do), means they'll take any opportunity they have to express their discontent.
I remember a poll, at some point where the "Radovid's character was screwed over on the Netflix show" option was winning, until the fan I'm talking about earlier reblogged it, and then the "He was treated just fine!" option won (I think the "he was screwed over" ended up with only 15% votes after it was reblogged by fans of the TV show).
So, you have gamers that hate everything about the show and the way it's different from the games... that are sharing the same space/tags as people that love the show, and either have no interest in the games, or are able to appreciate each as two very different takes on the same shared source material.
Of course they positively hate the way the TV show ignored the King Radovid from the 3rd game and created their own character. So they'll wish to "ditch" that version.
And, of course they hate videogame King Radovid, given he's meant to be hated on! He's an awful human being!
Radovid might stand a chance in a context where the fans of the TV show and of the new romance with Jaskier are given a chance to mobilize on their voting.
Otherwise, the fact that he got close to half the votes without help from any Radovid/Radskier centric blogs is actually... rather impressive!
He's actually more popular and beloved than I thought! 😆
So, don't worry too much about it. It's already extremely nice and considerate that you (the poll creator) were willing to give his TV show version a chance, so that it was clearer which one of the two characters we were voting on.
But yeah, "The Witcher" 's fandom itself is a very strange and sometimes scary place to navigate.

✨New item!✨
Brambler Weapon (net), rare
This uprooted plant sports a wild tangle of thorny brambles that lash out when touched. It can be wielded as a net with these alterations:
At the center of the mass is a bulbous tuber that can be held safely by the wielder and allows it to be thrown farther. This net has a thrown range of 15/30 ft.
Escaping a brambler requires a DC 12 Strength check. Each time a creature fails the Strength check, the DC increases by 2 (to a max of 18) and the ensnared creature takes 2d4 piercing damage as the brambler constricts further. Once a creature is freed, the DC resets to 12.
A brambler is able to regrow its brambles immediately if it receives slashing damage. It can only be destroyed by dealing 10 fire or necrotic damage to the tuber at the center of the net (AC 12).
If you spend 1 minute burying the tuber in soil, the brambler’s thorny vines will create a snare along the ground within a 5 foot radius. This trap is nearly impossible to distinguish from an inanimate plant, requiring a successful DC 20 Intelligence (Investigation) or Intelligence (Nature) check to discern its true nature. If a Large or smaller creature steps into this area, it must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or be ensnared by the brambler as if hit by it. The brambler will revert to its functionality as a net if you use an action to unearth the tuber.
This aggressive plant is commonly uprooted by forest gnomes and used to ensnare their much larger enemies.

(Long rePost) "Blood in the water"
How SAG-AFTRA strike will create global havoc for Hollywood - Los Angeles Times
Tumblr media
SAG-AFTRA members picket outside Netflix in Hollywood on Friday, the first day of the union’s strike — and first such walkout in 43 years.
(Myung Chun / Los Angeles Times)
Hollywood top executives figured they could ride out a skirmish with screenwriters reeling from technology’s changes to the industry.
But few executives were prepared for — or wanted — a strike by the industry’s largest union, SAG-AFTRA, which represents 160,000 actors and other performers.
After talks over a new contract collapsed last week, throngs of performers joined writers on picket lines — plunging Los Angeles’ signature industry into chaos and further complicating what some fear could become a long and devastating strike.
Movie shoots have ground to a halt. A-list stars have bailed on film and TV marketing campaigns. Matt Damon, Cillian Murphy and other actors walked outduring Thursday night’s London premiere of Universal Pictures’ highly anticipated “Oppenheimer.”
The upcoming fall TV season could sputter, devoid of new scripted episodes of “Abbott Elementary,” “Law & Order: SVU” and “NCIS.” And media companies that were already struggling to compete in the streaming era could see their fortunes further sink.
“There’s going to be a lot of blood in the water,” Jonathan Taplin, director emeritus of USC’s Annenberg Innovation Lab, said. “This is not going to end well.”
Simultaneous strikes by the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists — the first joint work stoppage since Ronald Reagan led SAG in 1960 — couldn’t come at a worse time for traditional entertainment companies.
Their businesses haven’t fully recovered from pandemic shutdowns. Walt Disney Co., Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery have been grappling with heavy debt loads due to mergers, and also from ordering dozens of shows to ramp up their streaming services. All the while, linear broadcast and cable TV networks have witnessed a precipitous slide in viewers to Netflix and other streaming services.
“The economics of the industry are very challenging — the worst that we’ve ever seen,” veteran media analyst Michael Nathanson said. “A prolonged strike will only make things worse.”
Amid a nationwide rise in labor activity, Hollywood’s discord has taken on the trappings of a larger cultural clash, ostensibly pitting everyday workers against top wage earners, America’s 1%.
On picket lines and social media sites, richly compensated industry leaders, including Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger and Warner Bros. Discovery Chief David Zaslav, are being portrayed as cartoon villains.
Outside Disney’s Burbank headquarters on Friday, a striking worker hoisted a sign that depicted Iger’s face superimposed on a hand-drawn Marie Antoinette figure, holding a raspberry-colored confection under the words: “How about sharing some of that cake, Bob?”
Tumblr media
SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher, center, and SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, left, outside Netflix on Friday.
(Myung J. Chun / Los Angeles Times)
SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher, best known for starring in the 1990s sitcom “The Nanny,” has been celebrated among striking workers after her rousing speech Thursday to announce her board’s unanimous vote to call a strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, the organization that negotiates on behalf of the media companies.
Actors are seeking higher minimum pay, increased residuals and revenue sharing with the streamers. They’ve demanded protections against the use of artificial intelligence to simulate background actors, known as “extras.” Writers have made similar demands, saying since the rise of streaming, midlevel writers have struggled to make a living wage.
“The entire business model has been changed because of streaming, digital and AI,” Drescher said. “At some point, you have to say ‘no, we’re not going to take this anymore.’”
The AMPTP defended the offer the group had made to actors, including what it said was the highest percentage increase in pay minimums in 35 years and a “groundbreaking” proposal for AI protections.
“A strike is certainly not the outcome we hoped for as studios cannot operate without the performers that bring our TV shows and films to life,” the AMPTP said. “The union has regrettably chosen a path that will lead to financial hardship for countless thousands of people who depend on the industry.”
It’s not clear when bargaining sessions with the actors might resume. No talks are currently scheduled.
AMPTP negotiators haven’t met with the WGA in more than two months.
Taplin, a former film producer who wrote a book about artificial intelligence, “The End of Reality: How Four Billionaires Are Selling Out Our Future,” said the threat posed by technology “for all artistic production is gigantic.”
“People worry, in the abstract, about AI replacing workers but here it is, it’s actually happening,” Taplin said. “They don’t want to have to pay for extras anymore, so they could have a scene that has 5,000 AI extras in the background.”
Technology also has upset Hollywood’s hierarchy. AMPTP’s shifting makeup now includes tech giants Amazon, Apple and Netflix — companies that don’t have a tradition of collective bargaining.
Veteran executives said the group, even in good economic times, formed an uneasy alliance. Member companies, including Disney, Comcast’s NBCUniversal and Netflix, are more accustomed to battling one another for viewers and revenue.
And some in Hollywood have wondered whether the AMPTP’s shifting makeup will stand in the way of a deal.
When reached for comment, AMPTP spokesperson Scott Rowe said: “The companies remain completely united.”
But unlike past strikes, including the 100-day standoff between writers and studios in 2007-2008, no leading executive has emerged to help broker labor peace.
Tumblr media

(Jay L. Clendenin / Los Angeles Times)
Wall Street already has placed its bets, punishing the stocks of legacy media companies.
Since the writers’ strike began in May, Disney’s stock has fallen 13% to $88.62 a share. Paramount has dropped more than 30% to $15.96 a share, and Warner Bros. Discovery has declined nearly 7% to $12.40.
Shares of WBD, which owns HBO and CNN, closed at $12.40 on Friday, down nearly 50% since April 2022 when the smaller Discovery absorbed WarnerMedia — a deal that saddled the company with more than $45 billion in debt.
In contrast, Netflix shares have soared 36% to $441.91 since the writers’ strike began.
Netflix now boasts a higher market value — nearly $200 billion — than Disney, the world’s largest entertainment company, which is valued at $162 billion.
“Investors are saying Netflix can weather the storm,” Nathanson said. “They make a lot of shows, and stack them up because of the binge-viewing model. They also have a lot more international production that they can import.”
Disney’s boss, Iger, appeared on business channel CNBC last week from the annual media mogul conference in picturesque Sun Valley, Idaho. The executive, who returned to the company in November, acknowledged that he underestimated the challenges confronting his company — particularly in the traditional television business.
“The disruptive forces that have been preying on that business for a while are greater than I thought,” Iger said. “We have to come to grips with that.”
Disney already has slashed nearly 7,000 jobs this year in an effort to save $5.5 billion. And in a nod to the changing winds, Iger suggested Disney might consider shedding linear channels, perhaps even the ABC television network.
The company, he said, also is open to taking on a strategic partner for ESPN.
Disney’s sports empire remains lucrative, but it is plagued by the trend of consumers ditching cable and satellite subscriptions in favor of streaming apps. At some point, the company plans to offer ESPN directly to consumers — but Iger didn’t say when.
“We’re seeing accelerated cord cutting as people are dropping the cable bundle,” Nathanson said. “And advertisers are no longer supporting the networks as they have in the past.”
Broadcast networks — ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox — are expected to be hit hard by the twin strikes because they are most reliant on fresh programming. Late-night comedians, including ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel and CBS’ Stephen Colbert, have been off the air since early May, when the writers’ strike began.
If the two walkouts are not resolved before October, there probably won’t be any new scripted shows produced until next year, according to company insiders.
And that could be devastating at a time when traditional networks are struggling to hold on to viewers.
“The networks have sports and news but a lot of their constituents are there to watch the prime-time shows,” said Neil Begley, a senior vice president for Moody’s Investors Service. “Among those viewers, there’s an expectation that fall is the start of the new season. The networks are going to have to reach far and wide for content to fill those hours.”
Compounding matters, this year’s annual TV advertising market, when TV networks sell their commercial time for the new season, has been sluggish.
“Advertisers don’t know what type of programming they’re going to get with these strikes,” Begley said. “They’re saying: Why commit?”
Privately, company executives say their businesses won’t feel much financial pain for several months. Without widespread production, costs will be lower, which translates into higher profits — at least in the short term.
Studios also are expected to begin canceling TV writers’ overall deals to find more savings.
But eventually, networks and streamers will run low on original episodes and media executives will be motivated to reach a detente.
“You can’t get by without actors,” Begley said. “The actors’ strike gave more leverage to the writers.”
Analysts and veteran executives said the market is straining to support all of the streaming services — and shows to stock them — launched in the last five or so years. Hollywood, they say, could look dramatically different after the strikes get resolved.
“Consolidation is going to happen,” predicted Nathanson. “Perhaps the strike will accelerate those moves as the weakness sets in. Some of these players are going to get weaker.”
Times staff writers Richard Verrier, Yvonne Villarreal, Ryan Faughnder, Stephen Battaglio and Anousha Sakoui contributed to this report.

UTAU Tutorials - Posting Covers
Posting covers on the Internet is pretty easy at a glance, but you need to consider the credits of what resources (voicebanks, songs, USTs) you used, what kind of title naming conventions are used, and various tips to get your cover out there.
The bulk of this tutorial is under the cut (as usual)!
Selecting Your Uploading Platform
There are plenty of online platforms to upload your cover to. There isn't a right or wrong platform to use, so just stick with the ones that you like the most.
YouTube
Arguably the most popular platform to upload covers to. If you really want it simple, you can simply upload your cover along with the original PV of the song you covered. Or you can make your own custom PV and upload it. Either choice is fine!
You can also do livestreams on YouTube, and in the case of using UTAU, this can range from tuning covers, mixing covers, or even recording voicebanks.
NicoNicoDouga
This is a video sharing platform very popular in Japan, and is similar to YouTube in various aspects. It has a unique commenting system in which "bullet comments" appear on the video according to the timestamp they are posted on. Other unique features include mylists (playlists), voting and quizzes, and so on.
BiliBili
This is basically the Chinese alternative to both YouTube and NicoNicoDouga, but it mostly resembles the latter in many aspects. The major caveat for this platform is that given China's laws and such, you will need to do the following things to even use the platform:
To sign up, you will need to use your own phone number to verify
To upload videos (and post comments), you will need to take a 100-question exam and score at least an average of 60% to even pass.
To broadcast livestreams, you will need to verify using your ID.
SoundCloud
If you don't feel like uploading videos, you simply upload your covers to SoundCloud. You can even share tracks on your dashboard with the repost feature - as a way to support fellow UTAU users. The few caveats with this platform are that a) you have 3 hours of free upload time unless you pay for a subscription for unlimited uploads, and b) the copyright system is... harsh.
Whyp
See, I would have mentioned Clyp here for the fact that you have lots of space to upload covers, WIPs, and various tests, but ever since they restricted free uploads to subscriptions, it's no longer a viable option these days (unless you have boatloads of money on you).
This is where Whyp comes in. It does the exact same things Clyp does, and you can upload for free. But if you were to upload something privately, it will expire in 7 days unless you upload it to the public. From one perspective, it can be useful if you just want to post a sneak peek of a cover you're working on.
Cover Names and Descriptions
Aaaaand here's the meat of this tutorial.
Titles
There isn't a right or wrong way to format your cover titles, but it is important to at least put in the song title and the UTAU voicebanks you used. Variations of these include:
[UTAU cover] SONG TITLE [VOICEBANK・VOICEBANK]
【UTAUカバー】SONG TITLE【VOICEBANK・VOICEBANK】
【UTAUカバー】SONG TITLE ft. VOICEBANK・VOICEBANK
Description
Now the description is where it's REALLY important to provide credit for the resources you used to make your cover. You have consider the following:
Who made the original song? Composer? Arrangement? Lyrics?
(if applicable) Who made the PV?
Who made the UST/MIDI?
Who mixed the cover? Who tuned the cover?
What voicebanks were used, and who do they belong to?
It's important to credit people for such resources because there are people will want to cover the same songs as you and figure out what kind of resources you used. Plus you don't want people to assume you stole the USTs/tuning/mixing yourself one way or another.
Posting Tips
Some tips to consider when posting covers and promoting them!
Add keywords and tags to your uploads. This increases the visibility of your cover and increases the chances of people viewing it.
Share your cover to friends. They might be amazed that you made a cover featuring singing robots!
Post your cover on social media. It can be on Twitter, Mastodon, Instagram, and even Discord. That's where most of the UTAU community resides, and they might see your cover!
I hope this tutorial has helped those who need a headstart on how to post covers on the Internet. Remember that UTAU is a hobby and not a profession, so don't be too hard on yourself if your cover doesn't have that much recognition! Just have fun making covers, and it will reward you a lot in the future.

The Case for Cursive
Tumblr media
Is cursive making a comeback? California and other states require it
The Golden State joins 22 others that have made cursive a mandatory subject in their standards of learning.
Years after many considered it a lost art, cursive is now required in California classroom instruction up to the sixth grade. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed AB 446 in the fall, but it didn’t take effect until Jan. 1 along with other new state laws.
The Golden State joins 22 others that have made cursive a mandatory subject in their standards of learning, according to a website dedicated to cursive instructional resources and tracking legislation.
“The ability to sign their name in cursive is important for future job applications, writing checks, signing medical forms, obtaining driver’s licenses, and voting,” said California Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton), a former teacher who sponsored the new law, according to the Los Angeles Times. “Every child should be exposed to learning — as well as the benefits of — cursive writing.”
The importance of cursive in education has been debated over the years. Some experts, like Dr. William Klemm with the Optometry Center for Vision Therapy in Texas, claim learning cursive can have the same benefits on the brain as learning to play an instrument and can even help increase hand-eye coordination in children with dyslexia.
But with the sinking need for handwritten letters or writing out checks came the trend of removing cursive from required learning in classrooms across the U.S. Many schools turned to computer learning skills such as typing in its place.
The Los Angeles Times said the anti-cursive trend was reinforced in 2010 when many states adopted the Common Core State Standards, which had dropped cursive entirely.
Since then, however, nearly half of the states have reinstated cursive in their learning curriculum, including Arizona, Louisiana, Ohio and, most recently, California and New Hampshire. *Reposted article from  Scripps News by Taylor O'Bier ON January 8, 2024

While Ethereum’s liquid staking gained popularity, its price remained under the $1,600 mark. Solana, on the other hand, registered growth both in terms of LSTs and price action. Messari recently posted an analysis giving insights into the current liquidity staking market. The analysis mentioned that 2023 has been led by the meteoric rise of liquid staking protocols, especially by Ethereum [ETH] and other emerging protocols within Solana [SOL] and Cosmos [ATOM]. Read Ethereum’s [ETH] Price Prediction 2023-24 A look at Ethereum’s state in liquid staking Recently hitting an all-time high of $22 billion, the vast majority of liquid staking TVL was on Ethereum. As per Messari’s recent repost, liquid staking has become Ethereum’s largest DeFi sector by far. Liquid staking tokens, and specifically Lido’s stETH, are becoming further entrenched within Ethereum’s DeFi ecosystem, in competition with native ETH. Liquid staking is now Ethereum's largest DeFi sector by far. Further, liquid staking tokens, and specifically Lido's stETH, are becoming further entrenched within Ethereum's DeFi ecosystem, in competition with native ETH. stETH's monetary value rivals ETH as it inherits ETH's… pic.twitter.com/617WlwfvHY — Messari (@MessariCrypto) October 10, 2023 In fact, nearly 22% of all ETH is staked, with Lido leading the way with a 32.2% market share. According to Messari’s report, Lido accounts for nearly 90% of all ETH in liquid-staking derivative protocols. Lido applies a 10% fee on all staking rewards, split with 5% provided to node operators and 5% received by the DAO Treasury. Lido’s achievement was also reflected in its wstETH, as its supply has grown from 1 million to 3 million since the beginning of 2023. Source: Messari Apart from Lido, Maker also recently announced the off-boarding of rETH-A in their main legacy vault by consolidating it in smaller vaults with lower costs. The consolidation of voting power and staking possibilities worries the Maker community, even though it doesn’t completely eliminate rETH exposure in DAI collateral vaults. Ethereum’s performance is not on point While ETH’s liquid staking space reached new highs, Ethereum investors were worried as the token’s price action turned bearish. As per CoinMarketCap, ETH was down by more than 4% over the last seven days. At the time of writing, ETH was trading at $1,577.24 with a market capitalization of over $189 billion. Its trading volume also dropped along with its price, reflecting a lower willingness of investors to trade the token. According to CryptoQuant, ETH’s exchange reserve was also increasing, suggesting that the high selling pressure can further push the price down in the days to follow. However, its derivative statistics looked optimistic as its funding rate was green. Moreover, Ethereum’s taker buy/sell ratio pointed out that buying sentiment was dominant in the futures market. Source: CryptoQuant Solana’s liquid staking ecosystem is also growing While Ethereum topped the table, other blockchains like Solana were also gaining momentum in the liquid staking space. It was interesting to note that, despite 70% of SOL currently staked, less than 3% are in liquid staking protocols. A reason behind this could be because the external DeFi landscape within Solana is still developing beyond its skeleton. Additionally, Messari’s report mentioned that because Solana offers 7% APY for staking automatically, users are less inclined to risk their SOL on liquid staking options in exchange for an extra 2-3% APY. Source: Messari TVL has doubled for Lido-Solana and Marinade since the start of 2023, suggesting increased use of LSTs. Staked Solana (mSOL), owned by Marinade, accounts for 54% of Solend’s TVL. Although LSTs are already the most sought-after loans on Solend, their total amount is insignificant when compared to Ethereum. Solana’s value increased sharply last month Like Ethereum, Solana’s weekly chart was also red. But a look at SOL’s monthly chart revealed that its price shot up by more than 25%.
At the time of writing, SOL was trading at $22.26 with a market cap of over $9.2 billion, making it the seventh largest crypto. The token’s volume also increased substantially during its price hike, which was optimistic. The good news for investors was that a few of the market indicators turned bullish, suggesting a price uptick in the days to follow. Is your portfolio green? Check the SOL Profit Calculator  For example, SOL’s Relative Strength Index (RSI) was above the neutral mark. The Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) also registered an uptick and was heading towards the neutral mark. Solana’s Money Flow Index (MFI) was also relatively high. However, the MACD displayed a bearish crossover, which could cause trouble in the coming days. Source: TradingView

What are some innovative ways modern restaurants use social media for marketing?
Title: Innovative Ways Modern Restaurants Harness Social Media for Marketing
Introduction
In today's digitally driven world, the restaurant industry has undergone a significant transformation in the way it approaches marketing. Social media platforms have become indispensable tools for promoting restaurants, engaging with customers, and building brand loyalty. In this blog post, we will explore some innovative ways modern restaurants leverage social media for their commercial interior design marketing strategies.
Tumblr media
Visual Storytelling through Instagram
Instagram is the go-to platform for visual content, making it a perfect fit for showcasing a restaurant's interior design. Modern restaurants recognize the importance of Instagram aesthetics and curate their feeds with high-quality photos and videos that capture the essence of their design. By posting stunning images of their restaurant's ambiance, unique décor elements, and mouthwatering dishes, they effectively draw potential customers in.
Instagram Stories and Reels are also popular tools for showcasing behind-the-scenes glimpses of the restaurant's interior design process, from concept to completion. This raw, authentic content creates a sense of transparency and allows followers to feel more connected to the restaurant.
User-Generated Content (UGC)
Restaurants encourage their customers to become brand ambassadors by sharing their own photos and experiences on social media. This user-generated content not only provides authentic testimonials but also showcases the restaurant's interior design from a customer's perspective. By using branded hashtags, restaurants can easily track and repost UGC, increasing engagement and building a sense of community among their customers.
Virtual Tours and 360-Degree Videos
Modern technology allows restaurants to create immersive virtual tours and 360-degree videos of their interior spaces. By sharing these experiences on platforms like Facebook and YouTube, they give potential customers the opportunity to explore the restaurant's design and ambiance before even setting foot inside. This can be especially appealing in the post-pandemic world, where people may want to minimize physical visits.
Live Streaming Events
Live streaming has gained immense popularity on platforms like Facebook Live, Instagram Live, and YouTube Live. Restaurants can utilize this feature to host virtual events that showcase their interior design. Whether it's a live tour with the interior designer, a cooking demonstration in the restaurant's kitchen, or a Q&A session with the owner, live streaming creates real-time engagement and interaction with the audience.
Interactive Polls and Contests
Engaging with the audience through interactive polls and contests is another creative way modern restaurants use social media. They may run design-related polls, asking followers to vote on elements such as color schemes, seating options, or artwork choices. Contests, on the other hand, can encourage customers to share their design ideas or even submit drawings or mood boards for a chance to win prizes or discounts. This not only boosts engagement but also involves customers in the restaurant's design process.
Augmented Reality (AR) Filters and Filters
Customized AR filters and stickers on platforms like Instagram and Snapchat can be designed to incorporate elements of the restaurant's interior design. Customers can use these filters when sharing content related to the restaurant, adding a fun and branded aspect to their posts. This increases brand visibility and reinforces the restaurant's unique design identity.
Conclusion
Innovative social media marketing strategies have become essential for modern restaurants to showcase their interior design, attract customers, and create lasting impressions. By leveraging platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and others, restaurants can engage with their audience in new and exciting ways. From visual storytelling to live streaming events and user-generated content, these innovative methods allow restaurants to build a strong online presence while highlighting the heart and soul of their commercial interior design. In an era where digital experiences matter just as much as physical ones, social media has become the bridge that connects diners with the ambiance and design of their favorite restaurants. One can achieve this by getting in touch with renowned design and build firms such as Flipspaces, which can help you with the same.

The political climate of Baltimore in 1776
Tumblr media
An illustration from 1777 drawn by British printmaker Matthew Darly. It is captioned: “Poor old England endeavoring to reclaim his American children and therefore is England marred and forced to go with a staff.” Courtesy of the Library of Congress.
Baltimore Town was more than a diverse and pre-industrial port town that sat on the Patapsco River. It had numerous sentiments, ranging from the pro-revolutionary, some of which were militant in their beliefs, to support for the British Crown. This article continues the series about Baltimore Town by focusing on the town’s political climate in 1776. You can read our other posts about Baltimore during the Revolutionary War period here.
Reposted this from Academia.edu and my History Hermann WordPress blog. I originally posted this while working at the Maryland State Archives as part of the Finding the Maryland 400 project.
The structures governing the town’s 6,700 inhabitants included a board of commissioners which were handpicked by the general assembly in Annapolis, a development which irked Baltimoreans. [1] This was countered by a powerful alliance between merchants and mechanics on efforts for increased local independence for the town and united in the town’s Whig Club. [2] The Baltimore Whig Club was an organization fanatically dedicated to the revolutionary cause and made up of officers of the First Maryland Regiment, mechanics and merchants. Ultimately, inhabitants of Baltimore Town were allowed to vote for representatives of Baltimore County in the Convention of Maryland. [3] Demands for local independence were so strong that state elites gave the town two seats in the assembly, just like the city of Annapolis. [4]
While Baltimore was a “Whig stronghold” and the First Maryland regiment was also stationed in the town, like Annapolis, there were numerous differences. [5] Annapolis, within the rich Anne Arundel County, had a established planter gentry and served as a huge marketing center for the state’s agriculture. [6] The Revolutionary War gave the merchant community an advantage since it became a distribution center for military supplies, and an armed camp, with troops stationed in the city throughout the war. [7] By 1776, the merchants allied with the British Crown had left or were pushed out, leaving Annapolis to give determined and concentrated support to the revolutionary cause. [8]
Baltimore and Annapolis had a feud which was not healed by 1776. For instance, Baltimoreans were mad that the state assembly perceived them as a backwater village.[9] Relatively, Annapolis had a higher level of affluence than Baltimore and not only were merchants “flush with wartime profits” by the end of the war but the city’s maritime culture prospered. [10]  In this commercial and bustling port city, delegates, as part of the Convention of Maryland, met and declared that Marylanders have “no security for their lives or liberties” under the rule of the British Crown. [11]
The Whig Club, which absorbed and represented much of the pro-revolutionary sentiment, was not the only organization with same sentiment in town, or even the first. For example, the Sons of Liberty existed in the town at the same time. [12] As for the Whig Club, its activities ended in April 1777, but it became a manifestation of a new order in Baltimore and set the stage for the post-war environment.
In 1775, the precursor to the club was created by town mechanics. These mechanics were skilled laborers in the clothing, construction, food, and shipbuilding trades. [13] The group was called the Baltimore Mechanical Volunteers. It was the descendant of the Baltimore Mechanical Company, the “closest thing that Baltimore had to representative town government” in the 1760s. [14] The Volunteers was an organization which allowed mechanics to gain confidence in themselves, “their abilities to command and their right to be heard” in the political scene in Baltimore Town. [15]
These Volunteers transformed again as the war progressed forward. In 1775, Baltimoreans proudly organized a Baltimore Mechanical Volunteer Company, a group of militia to defend the town in case of a British invasion, and many of the company’s members were mechanics themselves. [16] This not only politicized the town’s mechanics but the company provided many of the officers who later became part of the Baltimore Whig Club. [17] Later in the war, Baltimorean mechanics also fought as part of the Continental Army.
There were also sentiments favoring the British Crown despite the strong bloc of revolutionary sentiment. Even David McMechen, a member of the town’s Whig Club and a soldier in the First Maryland Regiment, wrote in 1776 that he could not “stay in such a violent place” as Baltimore since he had “too many enemies.” [18]
It is interesting that McMechen said this because in late 1776, supporters of the Crown took up arms after being harassed by the Baltimore Whig Club. [19] British supporters were pushed back until they received support from “the town’s free Negroes who offered protection in their quarters,” and they remained there until they could depart secretly and safely to New York. [20] Still, McMechen could be partially correct. In July 1776, Samuel Purviance, an eminent merchant, wrote that restrictions on trade with Britain were viewed less favorably in Baltimore County, which the town was then part of, than elsewhere. [21]
In the early months of 1777, Baltimore was shaken by disruptions to public order. On January 11, Captain Alexander Furnival complained that his soldiers, including William Grimes, had the “hard duty” of keeping guard in Baltimore Town “over the public Stores,” meaning supplies. [22] As a result, some of the local militia were used to take the place of Furnival’s men. Seven days later, the Baltimore County’s Committee of Observation ordered that the artillery companies commanded by Nathaniel Smith and Alexander Furnival, and William Galbraith’s Company of militia in the Baltimore Town Battallion be put on guard to preserve stability in the town. [23] The Committee gave these companies the duty of ending “all Riots and Tumults within the said County, or Baltimore Town” if necessary. [24] Around this same time, three soldiers of Smith’s Company, two of whom were named David Welsh and a drummer named Harry, searched the house of a wealthy merchant, who favored favoring the British Crown, named Melchior Keener. [25]
In line with the tactics used by militant revolutionaries in the town, the soldiers allegedly came in with muskets and bayonets drawn, searching the house in a “Riotous manner, and were guilty of divers irregularities.” [26] Not long after, the Council of Safety wrote to the Committee, describing the following:
“We are much concerned that we have cause again to trouble you on behalf of Melchior Keener, who hath lately been very ill used as he alleges, by some Soldiers of Capt. Nathl Smith’s  Company, and others who came without any authority or war- rant that he knows of, to search his house, and committed divers irregularities, two of the Soldiers were David Welch [or Welsh] and Harry the drummer…the Whig club…had no hand in this riot. We wrote to Capt Smith, and request you would with his assistance inquire into the affair and see that the peace is preserved. If Keener be guilty of any offence, let him be prosecuted according to law…We must observe once for all that mobbing men of doubtful principles is not the way to gain friends to the cause of America…What you tell us of the people framing a petition to Lord Howe and the Riots complained of in Baltimore Town have induced the Council of Safety to pass an order…inclosed to you and to each of the Captains.” [27]
While David Welsh’s name does not reappear in Volume 16, it is likely that he is the same as David Walsh, one of the 74 enlisted men who said they were committed to defending “libertys of the country.” [28]
Keener, president of the Baltimore Mechanical Company before the war, had experienced similar treatment. In the fall of 1776, The Whig Club had branded him a traitor and faced with their threats, Keener fulfilled their demands, returning to the town that December. Keener was not the only one threatened in this blazon manner. In March 1777, William Goddard, a well-off printer who rhetorically battled with the Whig Club, was “forcibly haled out of his own House and taken down the street to Mr. Rusk’s Tavern” by a pro-revolutionary mob. [29] The militia of William Galbraith, who were supposed to stop this, allying themselves with these militant revolutionaries, who were part of the town’s Whig Club.
In this contentious environment in Baltimore, the Continental Congress, still sitting in the town, ordered that signed copies of the Declaration of Independence be printed. These copies were printed by publisher and bookseller Mary Katherine Goddard and distributed across the thirteen colonies. The political climate in Baltimore was undoubtedly lively despite the disappearance of the Whig Club in mid-1777. For example, the mechanics, who had worked with the Whig Club, were forming a “new collective identity.” [30]
As the war continued, Baltimore Town changed with the establishment of a new political order, and gained an important economic position, which situated it well in the postwar environment.

[15] Ibid, 53. It is not known if the mechanics, rejected the “selfish principles of corrupt oligarchy” as strongly as the mechanics in the city of New York in June 1776 as noted in the Address of the Mechanics of New York City (June 14, 1776) to the Colonial Congress Principles and Acts of the Revolution in America (Reprint, ed. Hezekiah Miles, New York: A.S. Barnes & Co. Publishers, 1876), 176. In later years, the Volunteers would be a militia unit that defended Baltimore from British invasion during the War of 1812 as noted by the National Park Service, the Historical Marker Database, and other sources. There were other companies of the same name in the 1820s and 1840s. They also were well-honored enough to be mentioned in laws passed by the General Assembly in 1792, 1793, 1797 along with laws passed in 1758, and in 1768.
[16] Ibid, 61.
[17] Ibid, 61, 63, 66, 69. Apparently, some Baltimoreans went further, taking matters into their own hands, possibly engaging in acts of violence, since they felt “pinned between a tyrannical [British] government abroad and a submissive one” in the state itself.
[18] Dunlap’s Maryland Gazette Annapolis, July 9, 1776 Vol. II, issue LXII, pp. 3. For these reasons and others, there was a new police force, made up of adult males, in Baltimore created around the same time which had night watchpersons to preserve “the good order and peace” (Clinton McCabe. History of the Baltimore Police Department (Baltimore: Allied Printers, 1907), 15-16).

[20] Ibid. John C. As  Donald Marguand Dozer put it in Portrait of the Free State, “in Baltimore…the Whig Club assumed the authority of government and drove the Tories out of Town” (pp. 259). Other writers claim their were “battles” in Baltimore between the Whig Club and “armed loyalists” but never explain if these battles were ideological or pitched street fights (Robert J. Brugger, Maryland: A Middle Temperament, 1634 – 1980, 123).

All of these men are asking to be discharged, then re-enlist a second time as long as they receive rations they need, have higher wages, and bounty “given in other Companys.” Later on, Smith said his troops were “troublesome” but he was keeping them in order (Journal and Correspondence of the Maryland Council of Safety, January 1-March 20, 1777 Archives of Maryland Online vol. 16, 139).
[29] Journal and Correspondence of the Maryland Council of Safety, January 1-March 20, 1777 Archives of Maryland Online vol. 16, 89, 190, 225; Steffen, 65, 70-74, 90. The tavern, where Goddard was brought to “stand trial,” was owned by David Rusk who not only was committed to pro-revolutionary sentiment and a member of the Mechanical Company (Steffen, 71-2; George Washington McCreary, The Ancient and Honorable Mechanical Company of Baltimore (Baltimore: Kohn & Polleck, 1901), 25-26). The Whig Club also had meetings in the house of Rusk, who was a member of the club at the time. Goddard bated radicals throughout the war in his newspaper. Due to this environment it isn’t surprising that the Council of Safety said that Scottish prisoners should be removed from Baltimore as soon as possible, that a jailkeeper named Thomas Dewitt was arrested, likely because he was seen as allied with the British Crown, and that there was “an Insurrection in the upper Part of that [Baltimore] County” suppressed, in part, by Andrew Buchanan (Journal and Correspondence of the Maryland Council of Safety, January 1-March 20, 1777 Archives of Maryland Online vol. 16, 229, 231, 246, 272, 388, 389, 390). It is important to note that Goddard is not the same as the Massachusetts printer who has the same name.
[30] Steffen, 70-71, 276. In 1800, the next organization of the mechanics dissolved and they moved into the political arena with candidates (Steffen, 172).

Young people having political engagement on social media during recent years
Tumblr media
Political engagement can be defined as the participation of people in choosing and sanctioning the rulers that hold power within the government. Political engagement includes activities such as citizens voting their leaders, political candidates fighting for leadership position in government, politician receiving pressure from organized groups, public protests and etc (Stuti, 2016).
Contrary to popular belief that young people have low political engagement in real life and even on social media when compared to older adults. Experts expected that younger people belong to the “Distracted” group of people where they are easily distracted from processing political content because of high saturation of entertainment content (Matthes, 2022). But younger users of social media are more prone to post their opinions relating to the political issues and they post content that encourage other internet users to take political action. Other statistical findings include:
34% of social media users do repost political materials and issues that were previously posted by someone else
More than 30% use social media to encourage people to vote and use social media tools to create posts that encourage online users to participate in political or social issues where the poster think is important (Rainie, 2012)
Young people mostly consume political content through social media such as 70% of young people get information regards to 2020 USA election on social media (Booth, 2020)
The rise in young people paying more attention and even participate in political engagement is partly because of Covid-19 pandemic. As the pandemic occurred most countries prohibit citizens from freely going outdoors and practicing social distance is mandatory. This leads to young people to spend most of their time on social media. Moreover, political activities also moved online so the exposure political content to young people increases (Booth, 2020). An example of political engagement between young people and the leaders from government is one simple twitter vote with the question of ‘should we make Daylight Saving permanent’ posted by Ed Markey, United States Senator. After Markey posted that, people engage it by voting their opinion in regards to the question (O’Donnell, 2022).
Tumblr media
Sidenote, a study conducted on students in Turkey discovered that Facebook is the widely used social media for young people to get political news and participate in political participation. Young people’s perception about Facebook’s political effectiveness are 1) an effective tool for arranging virtual political activites, 2) virtual activities that attract politician’s attention, 3) a media that can effectively inform people about political development and news (Kamiloglu et al., 2014).
