a/n: hi! so this is my first time writing for Wanda romantically and idk how i really feel about it but this prompt popped in my head and i just felt like it fit her the most. edit: all 3 parts are out!!

disclaimer: i try and write wanda maximoff as rromani and Jewish as she is in the comics, her descriptions will be akin to those in the comics, i haven’t read many of the marvel comics so if i get something wrong, you are free to tell me (respectfully) in my ask box or dms <3

You don’t know how the argument started. One minute, you were enjoying a nice quiet evening with your girlfriend, reading on the couch while she did magic in the kitchen. Not literal magic, though you know she could, but cooking up the most delicious of smells. It could’ve started after you stated how nice it was to finally have some time together. After all, in the past couple of weeks, you’d only seen your girlfriend a couple of times.

Now, dinner forgotten on the counter, your book strewn across the couch, you and Wanda stood across from each other, arguing over the most trivial things.

“That’s not what I was saying Wanda! I just was enjoying some time together!”

“So you think I’ve been neglecting you?”

You threw your hands in the hair, exasperated.

“Wha-no! That’s not what I was saying at all! I understand you have to go on missions and I respect that but I also want days where I can just spend time with my partner!”

Wanda was silent for a moment before answering.

“Do you?”

You scrunched your eyebrows in confusion.

“Do I what?”

Wanda’s eyes took on a reddish glow, her power boiling under the surface. The last few weeks, to put it simply, had been hell. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw the victims of the villain she had been too late to defeat. Every time she got to be alone, some lunatic attacked Times Square. Your supposedly simple comment was like throwing a match on a puddle of gasoline.

“Do you understand I have to go on missions? Because every time I come home, you point out I was gone! I know I was! I was surrounded by hurt people, by my struggling fellow Avengers, and I knew I wasn’t with you!”

Her voice slowly got louder, freezing you into place. Your breathing increased but you tried to calm yourself down.

Wanda wouldn’t yell at you, she knew your history, you had no reason to be afraid.

Oh how wrong you turned out to be.

“I’m tired of it, Y/N! I’m tired of coming home and hearing you complain about me being away! My job is hard enough!”

With every octave her voice rose, your chest starting heaving with labored breaths. Wanda, in her anger, didn’t seem to notice your quiet state, how you had practically curled in towards yourself, how your eyes had gone wide. She raised her hands in the air, frustration rolling off of her in waves.

“It’s so annoying! Maybe if it bothers you so much that I’m away, I’ll just quit! Huh? Then more people would get hurt because I wasn’t there, all for the fact my girlfriend can’t spend a few measly hours alone!” She only paused to catch her breath, before yelling out something she would immediately regret, “Maybe I shouldn’t come home at all, how would that make you feel?”

The air was sucked out of the room. Wanda felt her eyes widen as she realized what she had said and done. It was like she could see you again, you staring at her, eyes wide with betrayal, glossing over with past memories. Memories she knew you had started to forget. Memories of long night spent huddled in a corner as they yelled at you, as they broke you down into a million pieces and then didn’t pick you up.

Wanda covered her mouth with her hand, shaking her head.

“No, Y/N, that’s not what I-”

She took a step forward, arms reaching out to console you, but paused at your reaction.

You flinched.

It was like running into a brick wall. Wanda felt like someone had dropped ice water on her.

You took a shaky step back, Wanda’s heart breaking at the fearful look on your face. You swallowed a few times before speaking, your voice surprisingly clear.

“I think- I think I’m going to stay at Yelena’s tonight.”

With that, you grabbed your phone and keys and walked out the door, not once looking back at Wanda, who remained frozen in the kitchen.

Once she heard the door shut, she snapped out of it.

“Wait-!” She stepped forward before realizing it was too late. Tears welled up in her eyes, angry at herself. God, how could she be so stupid? You had told her about your past, how it had scarred you. And she just-

Oh no. What if you didn’t come back? Had she broken the one thing that was whole in her life? Why had she allowed one innocent comment to anger her so?

With every thought running through her mind, Wanda ran her hands through her hair, the dark brown strands sticking every direction. Crying, Wanda fell to her knees, head shaking. With one wail, she let out a burst of magic, shaking the cabinets and counters. Curling up against the island, Wanda pulled out her phone and opened your contact. But she couldn’t convince herself to call you, she was sure you wouldn’t answer. Leaning her forehead against the cold metal device, Wanda spoke out loud.

“Oh Y/N, beba. I’m sorry. Žao mi je moja ljubavi.”

At Yelena’s apartment, you weren’t much better. Curled up in a soft blanket on the couch, you listened to your best friend rant about she was going to kill your girlfriend.

“Yelena.” You murmured softly, making your friend stop talking and come to sit next to you on the couch. She handed you a bowl of mac n’ cheese but you shook your head.

“Are you sure? I didn’t add hot sauce this time, I promise.”

You giggled at what she said but still didn’t take the bowl. A wave of sadness overtook you, tears welled up in your eyes, and you leaned your head backwards on the couch.

“Oh God, ‘Lena, how could I have been so stupid?”

Yelena tried to comfort you but you continued.

“Why did I have to say something? I mean the night was going so peacefully and nice and I just had to run my mouth! I should’ve known she was stressed and now,” You sobbed, tears rapidly falling down your face, “Now, she doesn’t even want to be around me! What if when I go home she has all my things packed? Oh no, what if, what if she finds someone else? Someone who doesn’t complain when she’s gone or looses sleep just because she isn’t there in bed? What if-”

Yelena gently but firmly grabbed your hands, the look in her eyes making you pause.

“You’re spiraling, Y/N, come on, take a deep breath, in and out,” she rubbed your back, pulling you in for a hug, “It’s going to be alright. Wanda loves you and even though she totally messed up tonight, she’s not going to find someone else or kick you out. You are irreplaceable.”

You smiled against Yelena’s shoulder, tears stilling falling from your eyes.

“Is it okay if I spend the night?” You mumbled against your friend. Yelena looked over to her phone, which she had put on mute, where 75 call notifications lit up her screen. All were from Wanda. Looking back to your shaking form, your best friend tightened her arms around you.

“You can stay for the night Y/N or however long you need.”

I know it isn’t International Romani day, but I wanted to make this to celebrate and bring awareness about the Romani community. Characters who are Romani like Wanda or Pietro often get misrepresented or white washed in mainstream media (*cough cough* Marvel Cinematic Universe and the X-men *) for no good reason. This is horrible because the Romani are an already unrepresented group that deal with many injustices. According to The Council of Europe, some of the terrible things to occur to the Romani include:

“facing hatred and human rights abuses every day. Roma are refused access to decent housing, evicted without notice and left open to attack by prejudiced neighbours.-blocked from the jobs market and from opportunities to get better education and vocational training. Roma children are bullied at school, or sent to schools meant for people with learning difficulties. Roma women have been sterilised against their will”

This also doesn’t address the 500 years of slavery or the misuse of their culture from people who aren’t Roma

Unfortunately, this mistreatment exists around the world (including North America).

Despite this mistreatment, the Romani have contributed so much beauty into the world. Including the flamenco dance, movies, music, books, etc

I can’t speak on how good the representation Nightwing, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver are to the Romani community because I am not Roma. I created this because I understand how important these characters are, and how important they could be (if Marvel or DC hired Romani writers) to changing the perception of the Romani community. It’s important to recognize the beauty of other groups in real life and fiction; because their stories are important and should be told.

My god, Multiverse of Madness was SUCH a mess. Wanda was turned into this completely illogical monster/madwoman with no regard to the consequences of her actions when the entire duration of her time in the MCU, she has been filled with grief when she has accidentally hurt people (such as in Civil War and Wandavision). Her entire personality and arc was taken away just for a fun horror movie with a protagonist just as immoral and hypocritical as they forced Wanda to be. She would not do those things!! Screw you, MoM writers!!!

A popular movie adaption (MCU) cast a white American Christian woman to play a rromani woman of colour who for most of her comic history was the daughter of two holocaust survivors, one Jewish. There was also House of M where she was made to commit genocide in a super ableist story arc.

Wanda's supposed to this really cool and complex romani jewish witch who embraces her culture and gets all sorts of complex storylines and like. none of that is in the mcu canon :(

Reclaiming slurs when you're the target of them is one thing, but arguing that g*psy isn't a slur is uhh... not correct. I did look it up on their blog when I first encountered them because I was curious as to their reasoning and it's just a bunch of posts defending Marvel for making Wanda Maximoff white in the MCU and arguing that calling her a g*psy isn't offensive.

Wanda is Jewish Rromani, and the criticism of MCU Wanda has to do with the fact that they retconned her origins, stripped her ethnic identity away, and made her ally with Nazis to gain her powers. This person seems to only care about racism when it's convenient for them, because they're fine with all of this. Enthusiastically so. It's a bit hypocritical to then fantasize about beating Billy up for racism.

Everything was going hazy, your eyes not focusing as you walked down the hallway, swaying slightly. It had been four days since you last slept, last ate something substantial. You were just busy, that’s all. Your job was demanding but you could deal with it.

Everything would be okay.

You turned into your office, blinking rapidly as you tried to clear up your vision. Stumbling slightly, you sat in your chair, forcing yourself not to fall asleep as you picked the files up off your desk to review. You grasped your energy drink, chugging it down, chasing the tiny bit of alertness it would grant you. Even though while staring at the same sentence it felt like hours had passed, the clock showed only minutes counting down. Your stomach growled loudly and you merely carried on with your reading.

“Beba?” A concerned voice came from the doorway, your girlfriend standing with her arms crossed on her chest as she leaned against the wall, “Are you okay?”

Ignoring the way you wanted to cry at her question, you nodded, giving her a strained smile.

“All good here, love.”

Wanda didn’t look convinced, raising an eyebrow as she walked over to your desk.

“Y/N…that file is upside down.”

She tried to catch your eyes, hoping to laugh it off with you. But you avoided eye contact, knowing she would see the full extent of your exhaustion. Wanda caught a glimpse of your under-eyes, quickly bringing a hand out to lift your chin up. She let out a gasp at your state, concern and disappointment filling her eyes.

“Y/N, when did you last sleep?” Her voice was firm yet soft but you were stubborn and brushed her hand off your face.

“I already said I’m fine Wanda, just drop it and let me do my job.”

Wanda looked taken aback by the harsh tone in your voice, her own eyes hardening when she saw the stack on files on your desk.

“Seriously? Okay, Y/N I have a question for you. Is the reason you haven’t been coming to bed for almost a week because you’ve been allowing your coworkers to give you more work?” At your silence, she had her answer. Sighing, Wanda took your hand softly into hers, kneeling down next to your chair as she kissed your knuckles.

“Come on beba, it’s late. Let’s go to bed alright? Heaven knows you need it.” She spoke softly, reaching one hand up to brush hair out of your face. You shook your head, determined to finish the work.

“I can’t Wanda, I-”

It was that moment that one of your coworkers, Agent Ward, burst through your door, stacks of after mission reports in his hand, throwing them into the already giant pile on your desk.

“Y/N can you file these for me? I have a mission with the team and I just don’t have the time-” He paused when he saw Wanda, who slowly stood up, her eyes never leaving the man. Agent Ward took a step back, hands raising in a defense pose.

“Do your own work, Ward. Y/N has a life as well and right now, is in desperate need of some time off.” Even though Wanda’s words were mundane, her actions certainly weren’t. Every file, folder, and piece of paper on your desk was illuminated in red before being thrown in Ward’s direction, who fell back through the door. You wanted to show your surprise at the action but your body felt heavy from exhaustion. You felt Wanda’s magic surround you, lifting you into her arms as she carried you out of the office, stepping over Ward who was drowning in paperwork, and then into the air once outside. You let the cool evening air relax your head as you drifted in and out of sleep. Once you landed back at your house, Wanda continued to carry you until you wiggled out of her arms to stand next to the bed.

“Wanda, you can’t just-”

“But I just did beba. It’s time for you to sleep.” Her magic once more surrounded you, transforming your stiff work clothes into soft pajamas. She coaxed you into the bed, cuddling up behind you, arms around you tight. You felt her magic enter your mind softly, guiding you into a deep and needed sleep.

“You’re going to take the next few days off, Y/N. Just stay close to me, beba, you can sleep now.”

Her voice was the trigger, making you succumb to the will of your body, sleep crashing over you in a powerful wave.

The last thing you could feel was Wanda pressing a kiss into your hairline, whispering her love into the night.

Even though the quality of writing might not show it, I had such a great time writing this (i fell down a rabbit hole of researching what happens when you loose sleep then I didn’t even incorporate that much info in here lol)

Just me going on a brief anti w*ndav*sion rampage. On top of all the whitewashing and bastardized version of heritage where Marvel just cherry picked some nice comic throwbacks(that had no business being there), they made her entirely unsympathetic. Over and over again, she made horrible choices that directly affected other people and faced no repercussions. I know people say it’s her grief and possible mental illness, but that’s not an excuse. They just ruined her over and over again and fans are eating it up and praising it so much.

Now to get personal, my father was a Rromani( from Romanian, which is why I use the double r) man who dead when I was very young. I was cut off from every part of him. I am Jewish on my mother’s side but was never allowed to acknowledge that. My mom was convinced my best chance at life was presenting as an all American girl. I was desperate to learn about myself so much. So I devoured every Scarlet Witch comic and form of media there was growing up because it gave me a connection I did not have to my father’s culture. I was culturally isolated from my father’s community. Out of my respect to Rromani people having a closed culture, I worked hard not to overstep my bounds. So the character of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch was very important to me. Wanda and Pietro’s storylines were my first real exposure to the horrors, brutalizations, and oppression my father’s people faced and are still in full force today.

Marvel had a chance to showcase Wanda’s trauma/grief with her actual comic storylines without making her( again, a Jewish Rromani character with a Holocaust survivor for a father) as an “ I wanted to change the world” nazi white girl who grew up wanting to live the American dream.

So special shout out to L*zzie O*lsen for being a terrible racist who has stated in multiple interviews she was aware of Wanda’s race and culture and still decided to play the part. Shout out to her for her consistent use of the g*psy slur. Shout for to her for fighting to keep parts of the costume that were meant to represent comic Wanda’s heritage that she had no business wearing.

If you want some starting point on Rromani history, I would suggest “We are the Romani People” by Ian Hancock.

Also, look into the “Devouring”, which is the plight of Romani people during WW2.

I'm new to your blog, why are you conflicted about WandaVision?

Oof. Uh, the short answer is because the way the MCU has handled Wanda has been Questionable at best on a lot of counts. Many of them are too late to easily correct, especially considering a major issue was in casting.* My hesitance over watching Wand*Vision is part ‘I am conflicted over Wanda in the MCU,’ part ‘I don’t really want to support Disney+ as a platform,’ and part ‘I came into Marvel via the Young Avengers comics and have strong feelings about the Minimoffs.’

TL;DR: I like the MCU but am hesitant of supporting a show that continues a really bad precedent regarding Wanda.

* Wanda is a Rromani woman in the comics, and casting a white woman to play her was whitewashing. The narrative also stripped that element of the Maximoff’s background, and by having them work with literal Nazis (and no, the tie-in comics that say they thought they were working for SHIELD don’t help when that’s not in the movie), it just... it sent a really bad message. I have personal reasons for having some very deep feelings for Age of Ultron, but it doesn’t take much to step back and go “wow, they fucked up” as far as the Maximoffs go.

Their parentage is a roulette wheel and they didn’t even know Magneto was (possibly) their father for decades of real-world time (and in that time he was abusive... and after that he was still abusive...), but they have always been culturally Rroma and almost always ethnically Rroma. The only exception to being ethnically Rroma was a weird patch where they thought their parents were The Whizzer and (the first) Miss America, and we all kinda just pretend that period didn’t happen anyway.

Other than that: they were raised by Rroma parents. Of the six parents they’ve had that were considered relevant enough to argue about (I’m serious about everyone ignoring the Whizzer situation), five are Rroma, and the sixth is Magneto. The twins are and always have been Rroma.

If you’re from the US, then you might not know what the term Rroma means. While there are posts by people more qualified that explain terminology, the Rroma are an ethnic minority across Europe, often referred to by the slur g*psy; they were the second-most targeted group in the Holocaust, right after Jews, and that’s the context on why the ‘working with HYDRA’ thing was... a special kind of bad. The whitewashing thing is something that I hope is self-evident in being bad, but to put it in a more American context if you don’t have familiarity with Rromani issues: it would be similar to casting a white woman as Storm or something--you don’t do that.
