"Same coin Theory" or "Stan is Bill" theory at first sounds like the worst thing imaginable, but when you think about it, it's really actually very very good news.

If Stan is Bill, as in, after Bill dies he becomes Stan when Stan is born, that means Bill is stuck in a time loop where he never gets to take over the world, and Stan, being a human who lives in linear time, will never have to deal with this.

It's also a sort of redemption arc for bill...

He becomes human, and learns to love and care for people so much that he's willing to kill the version of himself that wants to end the world.

And if it were true, it wouldn't really signify much for the characters, even though it would no doubt keep them up at night knowing, because if the ends of the time loop are Bill dying and Stan being born, and those have both already happened, then... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Okay okay okay! My first question!

What could change if Sebastian grew up in an AU? Like relativity falls or reverse falls?

this one is hard bc it depends on what AU he's in

relativity falls: its HARD to think about bc so many things would be moved XD especially with the triplets being already a very moved au. mabel and dipper would be their aunt and uncle, with filbrick marrying kari still as their parents (so the twins and filbrick are siblings, making their mom have 2 pair of twins lmao)

filbrick would want a free summer away from the lil shits with kari only dealing with baby shermie. thought itd make them more men to be away from their mom too. Ford would found Dipper's journal and Mabel would bond with her nephews until dipper is back, who FREAKS OUT seeing seb's eye bc BILL! Sebs powers were also activated in town and Ford and Stan had so much fun exploring them with seb, until dipper said what this meant and they got scared of him. Mabel defended her crying nephew. weirdmageddon still happened, but the triplets relationship had been breaking way before 

reverse falls: i dont understand the au tbh. i guess hed be confused if his family is evil? but with no moral compass, hed enjoy causing chaos with ford n in some way tourture will with ford bc hes a bitch xd

monsters falls: sebs a manticore. i think this is more of a vibe than an au xd

gravity rises: ford would have lost seb n stan in the portal i guess while watching over hyperactive dip and paranoid mabel.

same coin au: hed just VIBE with stan bc hed GET him! both being reincarnations of bill. theyd use their powers together and be badasses. ford was so in awe to have such cool brothers {after being terrified of both xd}

Notes this was inspired by the same coin theory and the theory that eda was stans ex and here eda finds out about bill and sees stan again at a party 

(eda is seen at the party but gasp as she looks to see stan at the top of the stairs)

Eda” my titan my heart beats faster and my mind is racing could it be? Could it be that you’ve come back to life?”

(eda statres walking towards stan)

Eda” i know those eyes following me dark and familiar and deep as the sea” (stan walks away and eda trys to follow him)

Eda” i know that face strange though it seems younger and kinder it haunts all my dreams”

(stan walks to a baloceny and looks at the sky and eda catches up to him)

Eda” how can you stand there a whisper from me yet somehow be so far away?”

(eda trys to reach out)

Eda” in eyes once familiar a stranger i see with so many words left to say”

(stan tighten his grip on the rails)

Stan” this man is dead he is no more he died a little each day like a thief the chateau d’if has stolen him away”

(stan turns to look at eda)

oh, how do you feel about the same coin theory?

Oh man don't even get me started-

I'll be honest, it's one of the few au's I genuinely can't stand, even the kinder takes, I just do not vibe with at all.

Short answer:

I like my Stans and Bills, veeeeeery very separate.

Long answer:

Yes it's partially because I ship billford, obviously that's gonna sour my view a little but that's only one of a few reasons.

Idk I think it's cause I don't like how it drags stan deeper into a conflict that was never his, he's had his hero moments you know? He doesn't need even more golden boy treatment. Literally.

God knows the fandom has given him enough spotlight, he's not the main character though, I don't like it when people treat stan like the be all and end all of the conflict.

It also feels very dismissive of ford, and his whole side of the story, not only that but it burdens him with even more bloody anguish.

It feels like, as silly as it sounds, ford becomes the wife in a bad American sitcom, bearing the brunt of the emotional beatings and never being given a bloody break.

In these aus, Ford never gets to wake up from the nightmare he's been fighting for the better part of his whole life, and now the universe is literally bending over backwards to rob him of a moment's peace, and it's dragging his family down with it.

Kinda feels like ford is trapped in Hell repenting for the sin of not participating in his brother's pity party when the world was at stake.

It does a 180° turn on the whole story, right at the end, just to reiterate the same themes and emotional beats with an even heavier emphasis on Stan than there already was.

It also reduces Stan and Bill to superficial similarities that where very obviously just theory bait. Robbing them of their individual roles as characters all for some cheap angst.

It especially reduces Bill to a vague presence or manifestation of trauma rather than a villain in his own right, all to pile even more trauma onto poor little stanny. Bill's trauma becomes stan's trauma but not vice versa. It's excessive.

It may be called "same coin theory" but one side of "the coin" is waaaay more "polished" than the other if you catch my drift.

It could just be the earlier Hell analogy, or maybe my lack of sleep, but it feels weirdly christian? stanny's paying for his brother's sins...I guesse...?

I know this sounds very (overly) harsh and I do not mean to discredit anyone who enjoys the idea or has dedicated a lot of their time and energy to it.

I do not want to make it seem like that's all a waste.

This is my personal list of reasons for why I can't even get into the idea, and that in no way indicates the actual value of the fanworks depicting it.

As critical as I sound here, I'm not trying to pretend I know better. I just... I get really carried away sometimes and get very obnoxious about it.

Okay, so the hurt/comfort fanfic turned Gravity Falls AU has really gotten away from me. I have most of it roughly plotted out, but I currently have a full chapter 1 that no longer completely fits the story. So, just to get everyone a small peek of what to (kind of) expect, here is draft one of chapter 1 of my Lost Boys AU.

Fair warning though, this did turn into a fanfic about same coin theory, so if you're not a fan of that theory, feel free to ignore this and all future installments.

Twelve year old Stan Pines woke up in a cold sweat and slid down the bunk bed’s ladder. His bare feet hit the floor with a thump and he stumbled over to the bottom bunk. “Ford!” Stan said, gripping his twin’s shoulder and shaking it furiously. “Ford!” “What is it Stanley?” Ford groaned, rubbing his eyes with a six-fingered hand. “We have school tomorrow.” Stan looked down. “I-” Stan swallowed hard. “Nevermind. It’s nothing.” Stan started to climb back up the ladder, but Ford grabbed the leg of his pants. “I’m sorry.” Ford sighed. “It was another nightmare, wasn’t it?” Stan nodded silently. “I’m here if you need me.” Ford smiled. Slowly, Stan sat down next to Ford and leaned his head against his shoulder. “Same nightmare?” Ford said. “Yeah,” Stan nodded. “Blue flames again.” “And you’re sure you couldn’t see anything else?” Ford asked. “Do I look like I saw anything else?” Stan snapped. There was a moment of night-time silence. “Anything would be better than those blue flames…” Stan mumbled. “That’s all I meant.” “I know.” Ford said. The moon was full and yellow outside the twins’ window, practically dripping with light. “Kinda weird that the moon’s yellow…” Stan yawned. “Oh, that?” Ford said. “There’s a perfectly logical explanation. When atmospheric conditions-” “I didn’t ask for an explanation, Sixer.” Stan mumbled as his eyelids fell. “I just… thought it was weird…” Stan nearly fell backwards onto Ford’s bunk. “Let’s get you to bed.” Ford chuckled. With that, Ford led his twin to the bunk bed’s ladder and put a steadying hand on the ladder as he climbed. “Ford?” Stan mumbled once he was in his bunk. “Yeah?” Ford looked up. “What if the blue flames come back?” Stan muttered. “Just remember that I’m here if you need me, I guess.” Ford rubbed the back of his neck. The night air was silent as Stan drifted off. “Just remember that I will always be here if you need me.” Ford smiled. Ford climbed into his bunk and wrapped his arms around his knees, curling his body around a worn stuffed rabbit. The night air was cold- and for the first time in years, Stan could feel the cold through his thin pajamas. He shivered, unknowingly curling into the same position as his brother. As Stan drifted into a dreamless sleep, Ford’s words echoed in his head and a small, trembling smile spread across his face. He was safe. “We’ll meet again…” Stan muttered. “Don’t know where… Don’t know when…” “But I know we’ll meet again some sunny day.”

y’know there are a good amount of generic Bill lines that, when read in Stan’s voice, sound like something Stan would say, and a few lines that Stan says that sound like Bill when read in his voice. 

the immediate one that jumps to mind is “Deer teeth! For you, kid!” after that one puppet short where Stan tries to sell deer teeth (https://disneynow.com/shows/gravity-falls/video/deer-teeth/vdka0_dp3252fg)

I just imagine him popping out behind a shelf and hopefully offering a pile of deer teeth to some random kid in the shop and watching them run away screaming, it’s a pretty funny mental image, honestly.

Hi! Happy Wednesday! I discovered your fanfic Some Sunny Day yesterday and read it all in one go and I absolutely loved it! I'm already a sucker for Angst with Happy Ending, but add in themes of atonement and forgiveness and loyalty and I just *chef's kiss*. (I have a bad habit of reading fanfics on my computer at work when I should be busy, but fanfics like yours are just so worth it.)

BTW, how much of Bill's powers has Stan regained? I also loved your one shot of young Stan finding a lost Ford, and imagine in the future it's very handy if the kids get lost or kidnapped. (RIP anyone who kidnaps the kids because Stan WILL find you and you WILL regret it.) Maybe they wear eye effigies on their person, like a hair clip or a pin, (Mabel carries sticker sheets of eyes to leave a trail behind) so that no matter what happens they know their Grunkle will always be able to find them.

re: Bill's powers, my interpretation is that Stan's basically got the whole shebang as long as he stays within the limits of the Gravity Falls weirdness field. outside of it, he'd retain the mindscape powers and semi-clairvoyance, but he wouldn't be able to alter the world physically. the concepts of like, narrative balance and overpowered characters weren't terribly important to me as I envisioned the SSD post-canon hahaha, but I also didn't want to just slap Stan with the full and sudden responsibility of being some kind of unkillable god-king — so I went with a route that would reward him with some cool powers for the ordeal he endured, but not put any overwhelming burden on him either. hopefully it sounds plausible in light of how Bill's powers worked in canon, too!

also, yes yes yes to Stan finding the kids whenever they need him! I'll be honest that abruptly shifting hyperfixations have kept me from working on more SSD-verse stuff for a hot minute, but that exact concept is something I've always wanted to circle back and explore someday. like... the kids knowing Stan is there for them, which allows them to reclaim the eye imagery... and Stan seeing this from the kids and feeling more and more confident using Bill's powers whenever he needs to protect his family... and this circles back to the kids, strengthening the new and positive associations they're forming with All Seeing Eye images, and it's just a cycle of healing... :')
