Okay, everyone talks about “Summer Child” and “Matilda” being similar, but consider the similarities between “Summer Child” and “seven.” Consider how “seven” has a permanent tonal shift, however subtle, after the second verse and second chorus. How the subject is trying to escape the pain by trying to prolong innocence even after that’s been prematurely taken away. Consider that the subject of “Summer Child” is doing the exact same thing.
