A/N: if you have any ideas you would like to suggest feel free. Let me know if you would be interested in some one-shots with Karra and Astarion during the events of game. Sorry I know this one was short.
Rating: T
-Slayer-
It was a normal day for Astarion sitting in his nice lounge room on a comfortable velvet couch, drinking wine listening to some rich lord rattle on about ideas for Baldur's Gate. The poor man thought Astarion was nothing but an advisor like most normal people did, but in reality Astarion ran the city with the help of his mad love. he would be lying if drinking him dry didn't cross his mind while he kept going on and on about merchants in the lower city. He could very easily but he had to keep up appearances, it would look very bad if everyone who annoyed him ended up dead or missing.
The door to the lounge room opened reviling a Karra, much to Astarion's relief a fully clothed Karra. "Excuse me but, we are in a middle of a meeting." The rich lord said trying to shoo her away. "Come here my love" Astarion invited her to join him on the couch ignoring the lord. Karra smiled and without a word she sat by Astarion throwing her legs over his lap and taking his wine glass and downing the rest in one gulp. "Very well, the point I was making was" the lord started again clearly annoyed with Karra's presence. Astarion did kind of feel bad he's been busy with too many meetings and what not to run the city, he hasn't spent much time with Karra in a few weeks. Perhaps he could dump more responsibility on Shadowheart. He knows his love understands what needs to be done but from past experiences she can get more aggressive and impulsive when ignored too long.
Lost in his thought Astarion gently ran his hand over her legs in an affectionate manner. "Lord Ancunin are you listening to me?" the rich lord asked annoyed. "Yes, just thinking" Astarion said regaining his composure. "This is why women aren't welcome in meeting their nothing but a detraction" the lord said annoyed. Astarion was about to tell the lord off but before he could he heard a familiar growl from Karra. In a blink of an eye a tall beast with four arms and tail replaced Karra, bolting after the lord who screamed in terror at the beast. Astarion barely had time to stand from his seat when the Slayer started to tear into the lord claws and teeth. Soon there was nothing left of the lord just a pile of unrecognizable flesh and bone. The Slayer turned to Astarion and a quick glimmer of fear past thought his mind yes, he was the strongest vampire in existence but he still had his doubts about taking on a slayer alone. It was Karra he knew that and she would never hurt him but she can easily lose herself like this.
The Slayer approached Astarion who stood his ground looking up into the beast eyes. "Karra?" Astarion questioned but all he got in response was a monstrous growl. Before he could register what happened he was picked up by The Slayer and was being carried down the hall of their palace, servants ran out of The Slayer's way not wanting to become her new target. Within seconds with the beast's large steps, they were in their shared bedroom. Astarion was thrown to the bed not as roughly as he excepted, The Slayer then crawled on the massive bed as well and wrapped all four arms around him and snuggling her face into his chest. 'This is new' Astarion thought to himself while The Slayer began to what Astarion could only describe as purr. With a sign knowing he wouldn't be able to escape the beast grasp he lightly ran his hand over her head like you would pet an animal. The purring began to slow down and become more quiet he could only assume she fell asleep. trapped himself Astarion decided to trance to pass the time.
A few hour later Astarion woke with a much lighter weight on his chest to see his drow back to herself still fast asleep cuddled to him, lightly combing his figures though her hair made her start to stir and look up from his chest and into his eyes. "What happened?" Karra asked still a bit dazed from transforming and sleeping. "Nothing you need to worry about, go back to sleep my love" Astarion smiled petting her head and placing a kiss to her forehead luring her back to sleep. 'What is one lord that goes missing.' Astarion thought.

A/N: -Quietly leaves these here.- Given what I’m writing at the moment I’m still on the fantasy side of things but not entirely about this particular topic so I’m having a blast whenever I think of these little snippets. This is still done in pair with a friend that asked me to follow her throughout the month as we both wrote small snippets of the word prompts. The rules being hardly any editing and more of a string of consciousness workshop than anything else.
They do not follow a particular logic but some are interconnected. Somewhat. Leaving the link for the first batch in case anyone is feeling curious.
14.-Cardinal
The virtues and sins are patiently listed down, just below the saints that you are supposed to follow blindly whenever you cross the portal between the world outside and what lies inside. You usually read up on the names with contrite expression, hoping others would understand your worry for devotion. There is very little to say to those who consider both penance and reward as unavoidable truths that can be condensed so neatly on written stone. Never pay any mind to the scorch marks around each and every pew, they seem to say with those unblinking eyes. The lines that have been there ever since the building was found amidst a set of others on the old part of town after all; why should they pay them any mind?
15.-Entrance
The door creaked as the boy made its way inside, worn boots scuffing against the panels so old they were half-covered in cobwebs so thick they could form entire architectures. He tried his hardest not to damage any of it, worried of spiders that would crawl their way up his bedroom window, find his eyes and ears, and made their way inside of him. It was no use, however, so rich they had grown, and so he mumbled a quiet prayer to the ground that surrounded him before making its way further into the foyer, leaving behind the main entrance and finding its way to the old silo in where the bones, yellowed by time, awaited him with the echo of a murmur growing ever-present with every step he took.
16.-Bell
The metal has long ago been corroded and left to rot, the wooden beams that held the structure together have been eaten or destroyed by both fire and wind but there’s still a firm layer of oil and grease around it, from the times in where it was taken care of, from the times in where its sound marked time and days and nights. They look up towards it, expecting almost to see it, moving, silent, silent, until a single note resonated through them all. It never came, of course, neither the sound of the movement: the old bell had long ago ceased to sound. Why then, the youngest of them would whisper, sometimes it almost seemed as if they called for them? Names like whispers through the nighttime sky.
17.-Book
The process of binding can take up hours; patience is a virtue that one needs to solidify within one self before even trying to accomplish anything with the pages that threaten to wrinkle and tear without the protective barrier the binding provides. The master is always gentle when he binds, always attentive, and well-mannered. There’s a fervor to his words, however, a particular tremor if one looks well enough. As if the process would, indeed, be sacred. The apprentices are always bored when he explains the process, however, promising that they would be slow, soft, but when the time comes, neither of them is capable of doing it like the master requires. And so, another book finds its bindings and another apprentice is asked for.
18.-Candle
The wax melted so very slowly that if it wasn’t because she kept an eye on it, she would have never seen how it started to disappear, the earth below sipping on the molten liquid as time passed. She knew she needed to go back; others would probably start to get worried if she didn’t, of course, but she had been tasked with the fire the candle represented and hold, she merely needed to wait. The door would be closing as soon as the last drop was consumed, but she still had time, did she not? Time for a little more waiting, for a little more, just a little more. She didn’t even realize when she fell asleep.
19.-Nonsense
Fragment disappoint finance engine finger limited allocation man encourage mask reduction interest army comedy grand height release referee flag shake convenience reverse spill delete cold plagiarize smile instruction mud terrify raw afford stimulation sigh fate guideline haunt sentiment track hip training export midnight moral win muscle layer intention stomach train desperate
20.-Wizened
The flowers dried as the adventurer walked, the cold starting to bit into his skin and, not for the first time, he found himself thinking back to the old woman’s cottage, next to the silo, he had passed last while trying to get any food for the path that awaited him. She had been kind, stubborn, even, while trying to sell him a bag even if he had refused it. “I have a backpack.” He had said, and the old woman had narrowed her eyes, her wizened face moving as she whispered something in a language he had been unable to follow; accent so thick it didn’t seem like any dialect he had tried to learn previous to his travel. The strap of his backpack had frozen some hours ago, his belongings scattered, and the decision of needing to pick the bare essentials one he hadn’t made lightly. He now wondered if she had known.
She had, of course, but she would never tell.
21.-Feline
The cat purrs, the sound of quietly bubbling soup filling the silences the creature leaves, the sound of wood against wood, of brushing brooms against hard soil a cacophony that feels welcoming even when eyes are slow to open, senses not quite still there to return. Mouth feels like ashes and sleep and stagnant water about to be flushed down. There’s smoke somewhere, an open flame, a set of rosemary drying to it, some tea that is not quite as tangy as you would remember, some runes written on the insides of your wrists. The cat is atop your lap, eyes closed, tail coiled around your fingers as you try to move for your mind only to fall back, back to a dream that is not yours to begin with. You try to say it to the first figure you come across, made out of ink and letters written by bards so far away from you their voices are echoes of odes that you would never get to listen to. The shadow does not answer, for it is unable to. The cat keeps on purring.
22.-Musical [Bonus points if you know the creature this is based from]
They chant, always chant, as you follow their voices through the bushes and the undergrowth of the forests that are closer to home, they always smile as your eyes follow the trickle of rivers that weren’t there the day before. Their hair is always long and limpid around their forms and they kept on brushing it as you move closer and closer still. Their feet are of those of the duck, you would later say to those around you with eyes glazed by the water, a portion of your soul gone like the wind that carries on the tune of their throats. They look at you as if mad, but they nod, either way, hoping for your own voice to stop singing a tune that is for the dead.
23.-Wicked
And the treatise was broken, and the kingdom fell for the souls of those who inhabited to transform and twist and reform into something that wasn’t human any longer as the mountains kept on growing, the blue of their color transforming into grey and then into green as they formed new hills, smaller in height than what it had been before. Eroded, would the scholars say, by time. And so, the grass grew longer and greener and the faults of those who had lived grew distant in time as their bodies fed the rivers and the trees, the paths once taken by wolves now devoured by ivy and loneliness. And the historians spoke of witches and kings and magic that had been once been thought true as others would say that wicked was just a form of the energy the land took in order to survive. But she never quite believed in that, not when time came to be precious, imperfect, as every clock began a new tune, the moon rising bloody and blue and purple and yellow, marked by the hexes once given to the land and soil she now lived and breathed.

Jooyeon fell asleep before you or Danbi did, but nobody was surprised. Seungcheol assumed she would tire herself out by being grumpy, so he laid her out on the couch and covered her with a blanket so he could make sure she didn’t go sleepwalking again. He did hope that maybe she saw Jia just to tell her what was going on, though. He assumed Minghao’s mate was concerned about him.
She also fell asleep before Mingyu even made it home.
The werewolves sensed Minghao was back with him before he even got to the door. Seungcheol darted up, wordlessly going to assist with Chan, finding Joshua in his wolf form walking back with the pair. Seokmin and Jun stayed inside with you and Danbi.
Thankfully, Seokmin mumbling to her that Mingyu was back made her stop sobbing. She still sniffled and had tears falling down her cheeks, but she felt a lot better knowing Mingyu was home and was breathing. He was definitely in a lot of pain and really needed to be fixed up, so Seungcheol took charge of that as he helped Minghao bring the injured wolf upstairs, Seokmin leading Danbi up behind them.
That left you, Seokmin, and Jun who still hadn’t left your side since you’d gotten home. He wasn’t sure what to do to make you stop crying, but he’d feel bad if he just left you to be sad on your own. So he sat beside you and kept an arm around you, lightly rubbing up and down your arm with his hand as he occasionally gave soft positive words to tell you that Wonwoo would come home.
You had fallen asleep before you got any word on Mingyu’s progress. You also didn’t remember falling asleep once you were woken up from your slumber. You were back in your bed even though you knew you would’ve fallen asleep on the couch beside Junhui. You knew you were in your bed because everything felt very familiar, and the bed dipped before you stirred.
“Oh, did I wake you?” that familiar voice that made you feel safe and at home asked in a whisper. “I didn’t mean to; go back to sleep.”
“Wonwoo?” you asked groggily as you sat up.
“It’s me, love,” he smiled softly, seeing your sleepy expression despite the darkness that kept you from seeing him. But you felt his warm, familiar hand against your cheek, and you leaned into his touch as your heart fluttered. “I told you I’d be okay.”
Despite just waking up, you scrambled onto your knees to crawl over to him and throw your arms around him. He let you bury your face in his neck as he held you close, a soft purr rumbling in his chest. Even though he had sworn to himself that he would protect you from anything, he was still relieved to see you at home, safe in his bed. It was even better having you in his arms again.
“I was so scared,” you whispered, afraid to make your voice any louder than that because you were sure it would break.
“I know, love. I’m sorry for worrying you,” he told you softly as his hand stroked your hair back soothingly. “But we’re both safe, so it’s okay. Everybody else is safe, too. Nothing bad will happen to any of us, okay?”
Hearing him tell you that everybody else made it home was also a huge relief, but it also reminded you of something he had said to you back in town.
‘I can’t lose you, too.’
You still didn’t know who he was referring to. What if somebody else got hurt that you might not have accounted for? Were you forgetting somebody? Had you seen all of the wolves and made sure they were okay? You weren’t sure anymore since you were still a bit groggy.
Slowly, you pulled back. You kept your hands on his shoulders, and he kept his arms around you, but you pulled away just enough to look at him.
“What did you mean by ‘I can’t lose you, too’? Back in town?” you wondered. “Did something bad happen?”
Wonwoo let out a long breath through his nose, letting his eyes cast downward toward his lap. He knew it was better to explain his feelings to you now. You were his mate and you deserved to know what went on in his head, especially if it would effect how your relationship was. He knew it was the reason he was so protective and careful with Danbi and now you.
“Let’s lay down first,” he decided.
Wonwoo had already taken his shirt off before coming into bed, so you scooted over and let him get under the blankets. You curled up into his side, letting him pull you even closer so you were almost on top of him. Once the two of you were settled, his bit his lip before beginning.
“I’m...the reason that...Lilly died,” he said slowly, knowing it was best to just get it out of the way rather than beat around the bush.
Your eyebrows furrowed. You’d heard the story and you knew it wasn’t Wonwoo’s fault at all. If anyone was to blame, you’d probably say it was the townspeople for denying her the help she needed and worsening the situation. You knew Joshua blamed himself, too, but it wasn’t his fault, either.
You lifted your head to look at your mate, saying, “Wonwoo, no it wasn’t. Beom said--”
“_____, I was the one who brought her into town,” he told you, interrupting your rebuttal. “I was supposed to look after her and make sure she was okay, but...I was afraid of getting caught. I stayed at the edge of town and kept an eye on her from there. But if I had gone with her, I could’ve...done something or said something. I could’ve come up with a lie for the scratch on her side and the mark on her neck. I could’ve kept the townspeople from making it worse. I should’ve gone with her the whole way! But I stayed at the edge like a coward and just watched it happen until it was too late!”
“I thought you were with her...” you admitted quietly.
He shook his head, and if it weren’t so dark, you would’ve seen tears forming in his eyes as he stared up at the ceiling, “I was too afraid that somebody would realize I was a wolf. I brought her to the edge of town and let her go by herself. But as soon as they saw the scratches and the marks, they knew she was the mate of a werewolf and they refused to help her. Some of them even made it worse. They did...awful things. I shifted and ran in to get her out of there as fast as I could, but it was too late by then, and...”
Wonwoo choked up, unable to continue with the story. He was reduced to sniffles and quiet, hiccupped sobs as the guilt weighed down on him once again. It was his fault that Lilly died. He was supposed to get her help and keep her safe, but Joshua’s mate died because he couldn’t do that. He almost lost his brother, too, because Lilly died. It was all his fault.
And now, he was afraid because what if he couldn’t protect you or his sister?
You quietly shushed him, stroking his cheek and laying your head on his chest. You let him hold you closer and cry into your hair, figuring it was best for him to get it all out now. So you laid there and let him cry for about fifteen minutes until he decided he was done.
“Wonwoo, it’s not your fault she died,” you reassured him.
“But I--”
“Shh,” your voice was quiet as you ran your fingers through his hair. “You couldn’t have saved her from all of those people, even if you were with her. In fact, I think if you went with her, both of you would’ve been captured and killed. If they found out you were a wolf, it would’ve been worse. But you did everything you could, and you’re brave for even getting her out of there and bringing her back to Joshua before she died. He got to see her one last time before she passed away, and that is commendable.”
“I guess so...” he mumbled, still not fully believing that he shouldn’t feel so guilty.
After a beat of silence, just listening to his heartbeat, you asked, “Wonwoo?”
“Hmm?”
“Is Lilly why you’re so afraid of Danbi leaving and why you’re so protective of me and her?”
“...Y-yeah.”
You hummed softly as you adjusted your position to get more comfortable again before telling him, “You can’t let that control you. That was something awful that happened, and it was a one in a million chance that it did. Danbi has Mingyu to protect her, and look at the lengths he went to to keep me safe. And I have you, but that also doesn’t mean you have to stick beside me 24/7. It’s not healthy for you to be so afraid all the time.”
“I know, but I can’t help it,” he sighed. “I’m sorry...”
“It’s not your fault, Wonwoo. I’ll help you get better, I promise.”
“I’ll do my best to be less...uptight.”
You chuckled softly, “You’re not that uptight. Just...what’s the word?”
“Mm, you can think of the word tomorrow,” he decided with a yawn. “I’m physically, mentally, and emotionally drained. I have my mate safe in my arms, so I’m ready to sleep.”
“I’m glad you’re okay,” you told him before leaning up to peck his jaw.
When your ear laid against his chest again, you could hear the happy rumbles in his chest, “Not as glad as I am that you’re okay. I love you more than anything, _____.”
“I love you just as much,” you smiled, snuggling closer to your mate.
“Goodnight,” he murmured.
You were about to reply with a goodnight of your own when you suddenly remembered something. You shot up, looking down at Wonwoo.
“When did you start making force fields?! That was amazing! Ooh, my mate has a power!”
He laughed quietly at your eagerness to talk about his sudden power, “Goodnight, _____.”

FT Rare Pairs Week Day 5: Opposites
Rare Pair Week Day 5: Opposites
Pairing: Natsu Dragneel x Juvia Lockser
Dedicated to: @sobatsu and to all the Navia lovers out there.
Thanks to: @freeezingrain for helping me with how to spell out the English words into French accent! You're a savior, BB!
Writer’s Corner: Navia has always been my guilty pleasure.
---
“Oh, there you are!”
Natsu fondly gnawed on the burnt fish in his hand. He savored every bit of flesh and bones as bouts of laughter escaped his open mouth. He failed to notice the head-waitress’ arrival at their table as he continued to munch down the poor fish.
“What do you mean, Mira-chan? We haven’t even left this table since Erza brought in that bucket of fish.” Lucy masked her irritation with pretentious innocence, sarcasm implied.
“Well, my last job added this to my reward. Didn’t know what to do with them.” Erza had the need to explain when no one asked her.
“If it shuts the flamebrain down, I don’t have any complaints.”
Flame-brain retaliated but his insult came out incomprehensible with another over-cooked fish filling his mouth.
“Aye, aye, sir!” Happy chirped, pulling his head out of the bucket with raw fish writhing between his teeth.
“Oh, well. I just wanted to give you this.” Mira balanced the empty bottles on her tray in one hand as she presented a mission request to the trio, which was only intended for the fire dragon slayer.
“A mission?” Brown eyes shining in anticipation as Lucy imagined the tons of jewel she was about to get her hands on. “Does it pay handsomely?” She asked, voice bereft of that foreboding gloom it had earlier.
“Well, yes.” Mira held on her bright, albeit forced, smile as if she wasn’t about to drop a bomb on that table. “But it specifically requests Natsu and Juvia.”
“Natsu and Juvia?!”
Expectedly, Lucy and Gray shared a shocked expression on their horrified face.
“That’s odd.” Commented Titania, massaging her chin as she pondered over the peculiar partnership. “What kind of job is it?”
Mira opened her mouth, about to answer when the missing half of the “Oddest Couple of the Century” materialized at the double door.
“Oh, here she comes now.” Mira exclaimed, “Juvia, we’re here!” she waved the water-mage over the table. As if she really had to. The moment Juvia felt Gray’s presence through her ‘Gray-dar’, she rushed to the guild hall, about to claim the spot beside him when the fire-dragon slayer hooked his arm with hers and dragged her out of the hall.
“C’mon, Juvia. We gotta job to do!”
“Aye, aye, sir!”
“But… but…” Blue wistful eyes remained glued at the ice-make mage who was watching the retreating coup-no! the retreating duo until they disappeared behind the squeaky doors.
Even Mira, the self-proclaimed Queen of Match-Making found the Natsu-Juvia pairing a bit strange and… she couldn’t find the right words. She snapped out of it quickly, trying an idea on the remaining mismatched couple.
“Lucy, maybe you’d like to try going on a job with Gray?” She suggested.
“I guess we could…”
“I’m going home.”
“What?!” Lucy jumped out of his seat, attempting to stop the ice-make mage who was already at the door. “Gray! I need the… money.” She finished her sentence in a small voice, finding it useless to talk Gray out of well, walking out, and returned to her seat dejectedly.
“If you really need it,” The Requip mage, who was now finished downing her fifth strawberry shortcake, scooted over to Lucy to offer the sulking celestial mage some help, “I can go with you on a mission.”
Slowly, Lucy scurried away. “On a second thought, I probably don’t need the pay, after all-eep!”
As usual, Titania wasn’t listening. She was half-way marching down the door with a nervous Lucy in tow.
Because the last time she went on a job with Erza, Lucy was baited to the pervy old men of some lost town, dressed in just string bikini and a nervous smile.
---
“How far is that place, Natsu-san?
“Dunno.” Answered the fire-dragon slayer. Hurting his brain looking at the map, which he turned upside down over and over again.
Juvia sighed in exasperation. They’ve been on foot for half a day now and it seemed the fire-dragon slayer hasn’t figured out the map. He refused to take the train and promised to get them to their destination even if reading that ordinary map they bought from town killed him.
“Well, this map is pretty useless.” He declared, burning the paper in his frustration.
“No! Juvia could have taken a look at it.” But her words fell on deaf ears. Juvia didn’t even know how Lucy managed to survive the partnership between her and the fire dragon slayer who refused all help. She wants to get to their destination a.s.a.p. and get things done. She already missed Gray, after all.
“I wonder what Gray-sama is doing now.” Juvia mused. Suddenly, Juvia had a certain feeling of eyes following her. She stopped dead in her track to confirm her suspicion. To meet those eyes that followed her. But the street was populated with people who were going in different directions. Juvia didn’t see anyone or anything particularly looking at her. Maybe, she was wrong. But her apprehensions forced her watchful eyes to study the corner of a building where rustling sounds could be heard of. Then, there was half a shadow. She couldn’t make any figure out of it. But it was moving.
“Oi, Juvia. What’s wrong?”
Juvia didn’t answer just yet. She waited for something – anything – to come out the corner of the wall. Her hands were prepared for whatever that was.
Then, she heard a soft purr. A black alley cat stepped out into the light, licking the fur on one foot. It stopped, sensing Juvia’s eyes on her. The cat held the blue eyes’ gaze, its deep, black cat’s eye staring down at the water-mage, sending a shrill down Juvia’s spine.
“N-n-nothing…”
Juvia turned around and rushed towards the puzzled dragon slayer’s side before the cat actually scared the hell out of Juvia. As they continued on foot, Natsu suggested they stay somewhere for the night. Happy seconded, tired of flying over their heads.
“Juvia supposes it is rather late…” Juvia’s eyes were downcast, still uncomfortable with being alone with Natsu.
“Look, there’s a motel!”
“Motel?!”
Happy regained his energy and gleefully flew around Natsu’s head. The old lights on the name flickering on and off started to scare Juvia. But nothing compared to the horror of what Natsu was implying.
“D-d-does Natsu-s-san even know what a m-m-motel is?”
“Huh? Isn’t it just a place to stay?”
Natsu disappeared into the questionable building, leaving Juvia no other choice but to follow after him. Inside, an old lady behind a covered counter greeted them. A merchant’s smile plastered on her wrinkly face because she knew, if the young couple who just entered her motel had other choice, Natsu and Juvia and that weird flying cat behind them would have never even casted a glance at that shabby-looking building. If the exterior made you wanna reconsider, the inside of the near-retirement motel sent you running out for your dear life.
“We’ll take it!”
“Natsu-san!”
Juvia puffed air in her mouth, refusing to breath that smelly air in that sinister, dimly-lit hallway of the motel. Just until they reached their shared room because the lady caretaker said it was the only one left. Juvia refused to believe it but Natsu was insistent, dragging the protesting water-mage to the second floor. Natsu celebrated the moment he found their door; not even sparing another thought about actually sleeping in it. Juvia wondered if the foul smell didn’t bother him as much as it did Juvia. Wasn’t he a dragon slayer who was highly sensitive to smell-eep!
Juvia squealed when she was suddenly pulled into the dark room.
When Natsu turned the lights on, Juvia was a little surprised. The room was tidied, even smelled lavender. But she wondered why there was so many mirrors installed on the walls, even the roof.
“Finally! Time for rest.”
Natsu threw himself into the made-up bed, squealing in excitement as the soft mattress nearly swallowed him. The bed was big enough to cater for two tired bodies. Juvia, however, had reservations.
“Juvia could just stay on the couch, Natsu-san.” She said, already starting for the worn-out, she dared call couch, next to the bed.
Natsu sat right back up, brows furrowed in confusion.
“You can sleep on the bed. It’s big enough for the three of us.”
No! Juvia couldn’t, she thought. What would Gray-sama say…
“Juvia prefers the couch, Natsu-san.” She faked a smile, which was coming out weird and awkward as pointed out by Happy.
He could have said something but the Exceed was too tired to even sing his famous, “she liiiiiikes you.”
“Suit yourself.” Natsu collapsed back to the bed, head cushioned on his hands. Happy flew to his side, resting his head on Natsu’s arm.
The short silence was then quickly replaced by Natsu and Happy’s loud snoring. It amused Juvia how they easily fell asleep. But she remembered something. In her desire not to make any noise that may wake up the sleeping figures on the bed, Juvia tiptoed, silently making her way to get herself some pillow and cover to use. Natsu wasn’t using them anyways. She gathered the sleeping essentials in her arms and slowly turned around to go back to her rightful place – on the couch. Then, she heard a scream coming from outside. Juvia hovered over the bed to look out the window. She didn’t know what happened. It just happened so fast. Suddenly, she was pinned down on the bed, beneath Natsu who covered her body with his.
“What was that?”
Natsu whispered, looking around the room before his apprehensive eyes landed on Juvia’s. They stared at each other for a moment, waiting... Happy wedged himself between the two. Looking up at him, at his onyx eyes, Juvia felt… nothing but utter annoyance that it wasn’t Gray who was on top of her. Juvia pushed his face away from hers, kicking and punching her way out of his hold.
“Hey, what was that for?” Natsu was offended, rubbing the places Juvia hit him.
“Juvia can handle herself, Natsu-san.”
“I just thought something happened to you.” He explained, rising on his knees on the mattress to look over the window. “I was sure I heard a woman’s scream.” There was nothing out there but an endless star-studded sky and a lonely coconut tree which leaves swayed with the wind.
“Natsu…” Happy buried himself against him, poor thing shaking.
“Juvia heard it too. But like she said, Juvia can handle herself.” She gathered her sleeping essentials and marched over to the couch.
“It was on instinct, you know.” He defended himself but Juvia was already settled on the couch, covering her head with the sheet. “That ice-bastard will kill me if something happened to you.” He muttered to himself, trying to calm Happy down but eyes still trained at the sheet-covered form on the couch.
“C’mon, Happy. We still got work tomorrow!”
“Aye, sir.” The Exceed answered, slightly shaking now.
---
The sunlight coming from the window hit Natsu’s eyes, forcing him to wake from his deep and loud slumber. He opened one eye first, crossing an arm over his face to shield from the direct rays. Quickly, Natsu adjusted to his surroundings, remembering why he was inside that shabby room with Happy still sleeping soundly right beside him. He sat right up and looked for Juvia who he remembered opted for the couch. She met his ‘just-adjusting’ glance and expressing a look of surprise, greeting him with no warmth nor hostility, just a mechanical, “Oh, good morning, Natsu-san.” Juvia was fixing her hat atop her head and looked ready to start her day – or maybe, just wanted to get this mission done and get rid of him asap.
“Good morning, Juvia!” He flashed her a toothy smile, brighter than the sunlight hitting his cherry hair. Now, that Natsu had a good night sleep and much wanted rest from all that walking yesterday and using up all his brain cells reading that stupid map, he was so ready to put this mission to bed, “I’m all fired up!”
The duo paid their bill, with Juvia denying vehemently the old woman’s accusation of her and Natsu enjoying the night as a couple.
“Juvia has promised herself to another man!”
“Oh…” The woman behind the counter expressed her surprise but she’s seen worse so she knew better not to judge. That didn’t stop her from sharing some wisdom. She gave Juvia a sound advice, “you shouldn’t dilly-dally with another man then. Save your self for that man you promised.”
“You gave yourself to another man?” Natsu took offense on behalf of his open-secret best-friend. “Man, Gray’s gonna flip!”
“Aye, sir!”
“Juvia promised himself to Gray-sama, Natsu-san.”
But Natsu-san wasn’t listening, continuing to the door, muttering much to Juvia’s chagrin.
“But can’t blame ya. Gotta be his fault leaving you alone like that.”
Juvia didn’t have the energy to refute that though she totally disagreed. It was useless but she just felt the need to say, “Juvia only has Gray-sama in her heart.”
Outside the almost retiring motel, both Natsu and Juvia shared a quizzical look as the once lonely streets became so hectic in the morning. There were so many people flocking behind a taped line. Video and sound recording lacrimas flying around the area. Both Natsu and Juvia didn’t understand what was or about to happen. But Natsu couldn’t care less. He was ready to ignore the whole commotion when a huffing and puffing young man approached the two.
“Natsu-san, Juvia-san, welcome!” The young man quickly pulled the two mages, leaving Happy to just fly behind them, to introduce them to a higher official.
“We were worried you didn’t receive our request. Director-san would have buried us alive!”
“Director-san?” Natsu wondered while he allowed himself and Juvia be dragged towards a tight circle gathered under the devised canopy. As they get closer, however, Juvia recognized the voice of the high authority, spewing orders here and there, before she even saw him.
“Director-san, the Fairytail mages we requested are here.”
The group quickly dispersed, revealing a slim man in formal, respectable clothes. Two of his distinguished features, one which both Natsu and Juvia easily recognized were the monocle on his right eyes and his thick French accent.
“Salut!” The man with the highest power climbed down the director’s chair to greet the guests.
“Sol?!” The Fairytail mages, minus Juvia, fell on a defensive stance in case the former Phantom Lord Mage went offensive. Natsu and Happy haven’t forgotten about what happened.
“Non, non, non.” He quickly dispersed their apprehension. “Monsieur Sol does not seek a fight.”
“Like I’d believe that!” Natsu wasn’t buying it, however, putting himself in-front of the water-mage a defensive wall.
“I have a new life after Phantom Lord, just like Mademoiselle Juvia, oui?”
Natsu was ready to attack when he felt a heavy hand on his shoulder. He glanced at the water-mage over his shoulder but his walls weren’t down.
“Perhaps, Sol-san is right. Just like Juvia, he has found his way. He isn’t an enemy of Fairytail anymore.”
Juvia blue eyes beseeched him. If Juvia trusted this weirdo swaying around like some kind of a flailing tube man, then maybe Natsu should give it a try. He was, after all, a man of forgiveness and second chances. Slowly, Natsu let his guard down, “I guess so.”
“Magnifique!” Sol exclaimed, linking his arms with the Fairytail mages, and leading them under the canopy. The people under the shade scattered, leaving only the young man who greeted Natsu and Juvia earlier to accommodate the guests, offering them refreshments.
“You see…” the former Phantom Lord Element 4 started, gesturing to Natsu, Juvia and Happy to take the seats offered them. “I have finally found my troue (true) passion – ze (the) arts!” He declared, throwing his slender, swaying arms above him, as if presenting the busy site to the still puzzled mages. “Now, down to biz-ness.” His face turned serious as he motioned the young man, who turned out to be assistant director-san, to explain to Natsu and Juvia about the job request.
“Basically, we are going to burn that building down.” The young man pointed to the dying motel the ‘odd partners’ stayed in. “Using Natsu-san’s fire magic. And Juvia-san… Juvia-san is here to control the situation,” he flashed them an awkward smiled, bordering guilty, as he slowly dared continue the sentence, “in case, it gets out of hand.”
Basically, they didn’t trust Natsu to work on this alone and they needed Juvia as a what? Extinguisher? However, the ‘insult’ was way over Natsu’s head.
“I’m all fired up!” declared the fire-dragon slayer, jumping out of his seat and pumping his fist into thin air.
Sol, the movie director joined him, leaving Juvia the only one feeling, “Juvia feels this won’t end well.”
Juvia wasn’t a fortune-teller, but that’s exactly how the afternoon of shooting a movie went – not well. Bad. Worst. Hell. Natsu was just showing off, burning everything in his wake. Juvia was left cleaning up after him, using her water magic to just wash off the fire that burned the entire street. Juvia apologized to Sol but the latter waved it away, telling her it was expected since they requested the fire-dragon slayer for the job. But Juvia couldn’t help but feel sorry for the guy while the old woman who owned the run-down motel kept adding expenses to his tab. That also meant there was going to be a big cut out of their pay.
“Now, Juvia knows how Lucy feels.” She muttered.
At one point, Juvia had to shower the female actress with cold water because Natsu just ‘accidentally’ burned her, which forced Juvia to hesitantly take her place instead. The water-mage didn’t warm up to the idea at first. What woman in her right mind would willingly go into a burning building to wait for someone to save her? Certainly, not one of the member of the strongest guild in Fiore. However, it was her former guildmate who begged her to do something. Despite of what happened in the past, Sol was a nice friend to her. She didn’t have the heart to say no. Until, she was told there was a kissing scene.
“Juvia certainly will not do it!”
“Will you reconsider if we put Natsu-san in the leading man’s place instead?”
“Oui! Idea magnifique!” Came the exclamation from behind the young assistant director. Sol clasped his hands around Juvia’s, eyes pleading with hers. “If not, we will keep lo-sing money.”
“Juvia and Natsu-san don’t even look like your main couple! And that’s not part of the request.” She tried everything to get out of that deal.
“Death.” Sol covered his eyes with his arm, in such a dramatic fashion befitting such a dramatic person. “Death is coming for moi.”
“Sol-san!” Juvia caught him and helped him into his seat.
Juvia looked around the expectant looks from the crew members. Not only was Sol going to lose money because of delayed production, as he persuaded the water-mage, although Juvia had a feeling he was using the guilt card on her, he would have to start firing people. That part of the information the assistant director made sure was heard all over until the neighboring town. Now, she had the entire “Man of Fire” cast and crew relying on her to be their savior. The person who said he was going to take care of everything just walked up to her to ask, “How hard could it be?”
Natsu wasn’t considering it, was he?
“It’s just going in and out of a burning building.” He shrugged his shoulders. “Easy.”
But it wasn’t easy. Especially, when Natsu started questioning Sol about why he should do this or that, telling Sol how to do his job. He wasn’t making it easy for anyone, especially not to the water-mage who got a number of her dresses reduced to ashes.
“Non. Non. Non!” The director was now stomping his feet, thrashing his head around out of frustration. “Monsieur Natsu need to carry Mademoiselle Juvia like a bride.” He informed. “Zen (then), lay her on ze (the) ground and you claim her sweet lips.” Sol pursed his lips for emphasis. Then, he dropped the loving expression, “Not laugh like a villainous maniaque (maniac).”
Apparently, Natsu was not able to wrap his head around the idea that he was actually the main lead and not the evil dragon king he thought himself to be.
“You could have just said so.” He grunted and returned back into the burning building to, figured Juvia, get the scene right this time.
But Sol, feeling the frustration boiling up his blood, returned to stomping on the ground and trashing his head around saying, “zat’s (that’s). wat (what). I’ve. Been. Saying.” Juvia had to apologize on Natsu’s behalf, once again, before returning into the building to play the damsel in distress.
This time, however, the fire dragon slayer made good on his promise. The director and the crew watched on the monitor lacrima as the scene played out on their screen. Sol, the director and whose head was going to be chopped if the movie didn’t go so well, nervously gawked at the large monitor, chewing on his fingernails, as he hoped not but still expected something to go wrong. Thank the heavens, everything went perfectly. From the time Natsu rushed into the burning building to coming out of it with Juvia in both arms. The moving-photo lacrima taker loved everything about the dragon slayer: his serious look, furrowed brows, and sexy bravado. His torn clothes exposing hard muscles was just the icing on the cake. Now, it was the most crucial scene that got Sol all nervous and fidgety; the highlight, the moment that will end it all, the scene of all scenes – the kiss.
Natsu gently placed Juvia on the ground as per Sol’s direction, safe from the fire he created for the movie scene. He had his hand behind Juvia’s head, keeping her close to him. His focused eyes sought hers. Juvia’s heart was beating loudly. With Natsu’s enhanced hearing ability, she was sure he could hear every beat of it. Then slowly, ever so cautiously, without any word spoken between them, Natsu leaned in. Closer and closer until he was just a breath away.
Then, he wasn’t breathing at all. Because Natsu Dragneel was just frozen solid.
“What the hell are you doing?”
“Gray-sama?”
“Non. Non. Non. Non!” Sol pulled his drilling stare off the monitor, off his literally frozen male lead. He slid off his seat and thrashed his head until he broke his neck, he hoped. So that he didn’t have to deal with all the angry people who will be out to get him if he didn’t finish this movie. “Pourquoi (Why)?” He fell on his knees, grasping on the ground. Then, Sol lifted his arms to heaven, questioning all the gods that must have hated him. “Pourquoi moi (Why me)?!”
Natsu, finally learning how to thaw Gray’s ice and unfreeze himself with his fire magic, became warm skin again. “What the hell, Gray?” He lurched for the newly arrived visitor who easily side-stepped him.
“Why are you about to…” Gray, the uninvited visitor, had a strained expression on his face, “with that flame-brain?!”
Gray Fullbuster, who looked like he was ready to swallow the water-mage whole, effortlessly dodged all of Natsu’s attacks, whilst drilling a hole at Juvia’s head with the way he was glaring at her.
“It’s a job request, you ice-prick!”
“Natsu-san is right, Gray-sama!” Juvia jumped to her feet to defend her honor. “It was just a near-touch kiss.”
But her explanation fell on deaf ears because ‘Ice Prick’ and ‘Flame Brain’ were already destroying half the town.
“I’m really sorry, Sol-san.”
---
Juvia walked back to Magnolia with the world on her shoulders. Not only did she not get the pay for the simple job request; she and Natsu were slapped with so much damage and penalty claims that she would need to bust her butt off working all missions available back at the guild and still need to get herself some side gigs. Serve as a human fountain? Human sprinkler? Giant faucet?
“Maybe, Juvia can pose as a model for Sorcerer Weekly?” She mulled it over. Although she wasn’t comfortable with the exposure, she needed the jewels.
“I’ll help you with the claims so don’t worry about it.” Said Gray who was walking beside her the whole time.
“Yeah. Me too.” Natsu caught up with Juvia and Gray, with the latter going to such lengths as putting himself between them as they travelled or urging Juvia to walk faster to lose Natsu. Just because he wanted to separate the water-mage from flame-brain. But as expected of Natsu, he wasn’t getting the hint that Gray actually did not want him there.
“You’re half the reason for it!”
“Yeah? Well, news for you droopy eyes. You’re the other half reason!”
“You wanna go at it, slanty?” There was no point asking because Gray and Natsu were already at each other’s throats, ready to land the punch they were both holding up.
“Juvia would really prefer to walk in peace, Gray-sama.” She sighed. Juvia now had a new whole respect for the celestial mage who had to deal with all this.
It was the ice-make mage who first pulled away from the ensuing fight, muttering a small sorry for his behavior. His actions made Natsu wonder because: one, Gray never backed out of a fight; second, especially when he looked so eager – athirst – to land that cold fist on Natsu; and finally, how did even Gray knew where he and Juvia were?
“Oi, ice bastard. Why are you even here?”
“What?” Gray heard the question the first time. Not knowing how to respond to the question – an inquiry that got him all stiff and sweaty – the ice-make mage pretended not to hear. If he was lucky, Natsu would drop the subject.
But the question wasn’t dropped as he hoped. It got the attention of the water-mage, who Gray wished was so preoccupied with having to pay the town and that French speaking former guildmate of hers a great deal of jewels that she couldn’t put two and two together.
“Was Gray-sama on a job and was about to go back to Magnolia when he found Natsu-san taking advantage of Juvia?” Her eyes were sparkling with expectation that she was right with her assumption.
“Y-yeah. T-t-that.” Even to Gray, he didn’t sound so convincing. But Juvia seemed satisfied with his answer. So, he could puff a breath of relief. Except that Natsu and Happy was still staring at him skeptically.
“W-w-whatchu lookin’ at?”
“You were following us, weren’t you?”
Gray’s usually droopy eyes widened at Natsu’s conclusion.
“You were the woman we heard screami–mnmnmn.”
Gray nervously glanced at Juvia over his shoulder as he kept his hand covering flamebrain’s loud mouth, nearly suffocating the dragon slayer. Juvia, however, seemed oblivious of everything that was happening around her. Good, Gray sighed. She was probably off to her imagination land.
“Shuttup or I’ll make you eat ice cubes all day.”
Natsu stopped fighting and reluctantly, Gray let him go. He threatened the wrong bastard though. Because Happy just ecstatically hovered over the three of them to announce, “Gray screams like a giiiiirl!”

For Toshinko week 2020, day 4, Ways to say I love you Enjoy! ^^ (day three was a fanart I did. Can be found on my youtube channel- All_Greenie- as a vid, and on Tumblr- The All Might Blog)
“Inko! I’m home!” Toshinori called, closing the door behind him with a yawn. It had been… a tiring day. Young Bakugou had gotten mad at Midoriya (again) and had tried to blast him halfway across the room during battle training. And then he had had to explain the same thing twice to Denki because he hadn’t been paying attention. Then there was the little incident in which Present Mic had started singing christmas carols through the P.A (even if they were still in August), and finally he had had to listen to Nedzu for a whole two hours while he talked about the philosophy of teaching while sipping at tea and wishing he were back at his apartment and watching TV with his wife.
To make a long story short, it was a chaotic day.
The retired hero yawned even wider as he pulled off his mustard yellow coat, hanging it on the coat hanger as he scratched the back of his neck. He then walked to the living room, only to find it empty.
“Inko?” he called. No answer. Panic began to bubble up inside him. They had both known that it was dangerous for her to marry him because he had made a lot of enemies over his career. She had accepted that and stayed with him anyways. It made Toshinori feel a bit selfish, but at the same time he couldn’t have been happier to have the short, kind woman in his life.
“Inkooo?” he called, walking to the couch. There was a soft meow and his gaze snapped over to the living room table, where they usually had their meals.
A small, fluffy, surprisingly green-furred cat peeked out at him, stuck inside a flower vase. The sight was funny enough to make Toshinori laugh, despite the… circumstances.
“Well, how did you get in here? Looks like a cat-tastrophy. See what I did there?” he asked with a laugh, walking over to the cat. It seemed to narrow its green eyes at him in something akin to annoyance as it meowed again. Toshinori gently freed it, trying very hard not to hurt the cat as he pulled it out from inside. The small feline meowed again as he let her down on the table, replacing the vase. It trotted over to an open laptop- Inko’s laptop- and sat by it, meowing loudly.
Toshinori frowned. “What is it?” he asked, walking over to it. The cat meowed again, pawing at the screen. The screen was alight with the background of the desktop, which was a picture of him with Inko laughing in his arms. He smiled a bit at the memory. The cat, however, wasn’t ready to wait for him to remember every single detail, and meowed again as it leaned forward and touched the screen with a paw. Toshinori’s smile fell.
The cat’s paw had landed on Inko’s face.
What…?
“Inko?!” he gasped. The cat nodded its- her- head vigorously, tapping the screen again and meowing. Toshinori scooped her into his arms and she immediately took comfort against his chest, shivering slightly.
“What happened to you?” he asked, thumb lightly stroking her forehead. She meowed, and he knew that it was an I don’t know kind of answer. She meowed softly, emerald green eyes meeting his once more. He could see worry clear in them, as well as relief to see that he had arrived.
“Inko…” he fell quiet. How could he access the situation if she couldn’t tell him what had happened firsthand? He hummed in thought, caught off guard when Inko suddenly leaped out of his arms, landing on the table with a light thump. She (with some difficulty) opened a Word Document, then sloppily began to jab at letters on the keyboard. Toshinori took a seat on the chair behind her, patiently watching as she made a sentence.
I just woke up like this he read.
“No one did this to you? I mean, you can’t just have magically turned into a cat. And how did you get stuck in the vase anyways?” At this she turned her head and gave him a small shrug. “You don’t know how?” She turned back to the keyboard and wrote another sentence.
I woke up there
“So… you woke up. As a cat. And stuck inside a vase.” Toshinori said. She nodded her head. “For how long do you think…?”
I was normal when I had my afternoon nap
“So… two hours.” More typing.
Two hours
“Damn. What should we do about this?” he asked. She produced a strangely humane snort, and typed again.
I don’t know. Aren’t you the previous number 1 hero?
“Retired, my dear.” he said with a small smile, stroking her soft tail. She sighed.
Yeah. What I mean is haven’t you dealt with this before?
"Well, I did have my entire class turn into kindergarteners, and a few students swapped bodies only a couple of weeks ago." he said slowly. "But other then that, not really. I suppose that... whatever this is, it shouldn't take too long to wear off." Inko thought deeply, her new cat face tilting as she thought. Toshinori couldn't help but chuckle. Not in a million years could he have imagined that he would come home to find his wife stuck in a vase and as a cat. Not only that, but her current thinking face was ridiculously cute. He gently picked her up into his arms, his wife strtling a little as she was unexpectedly lifted off the table, her back legs hanging in midair before Toshinori carefully gathered her into his arms as if craddling a child. He took her to the couch and sat, fishing his phone out of his pocket and dialing Naomasa's number, petting Inko's back with a hand while he waited for his friend to pick up.
"Hello?" Naomasa said from the other end of the line.
"Hey, this is Toshinori." Toshinori said. "Listen, I have a question?"
"What is it?"
"I got hom today and found that my wive is currently... a cat." Toshinori said. As if on cue, Inko meowed loudly.
"Ah..."
"Yes, ah indeed. I was wondering if you had to deal with any cases like this one?"
"Once or twice. Sometimes it can be due to some quirk, other times due to a drug or something of the kind. Perhaps someone drugged her. But effects shouldn't be permanent and depending on how long it's been like this, she should return back to her normal state in a few hours or so." Naomasa said, the rustling of paper heard from the other end of the line.
Toshinori sighed with relief. "Thank God. Thank you, Naomasa."
"No problem. Anything I could help with?"
"No, that was it."
"Alright. You can call me back if something happens or if she doesn't change back by tomorrow."
"Thanks!"
Both bid their goodbyes and Toshinori hung up, leaving his phone on the coffee table and concentrating on Inko.
"Well, Naomasa said that it should wear off soon enough." Inko relaxed her muscles with relief, nudging Toshinori's hand in a thank you way. He scratched her behind the ear, drawing a string of purrs from her.
"Your cat version is very cute," he chuckled, moving his hand to stroke the underside of her jaw. Her eyes closed instinctively, tilting her head. "See what I mean?" he laughed, getting an amused look from her. His laughs suddenly turned to coughs, covering his mouth with a hand and shocking Inko. She sprang to her paws (nearly falling off his lap) and propped herself up on her back legs, small paws leaning on his chest for support as she tilted her head up, meowing worriedly. Toshinori managed to get his breathing under control once more, wiping a small drop of blood from his mouth with the back of his hand.
"It's fine," he said quietly, patting her head lightly, "I'm fine." Inko looked unconvinced but lowered herself down anyways, curling up on his lap once again and purring fiercely. Toshinori wanted to laugh, happy that she was with him, but his throat felt raw and he stuck to smiling while he stroked her soft, green fur, turning on the television and selecting CATS (an old musical that Inko had loved to watch- and still did- with Izuku when he was a youngster).
Before he knew it, they had both fallen asleep by the time Rum Tum Tugger begun to sing his song, Inko comfortably curled up next to him as he laid sideways on their small sofa.
(Spoiler: Inko turns back to normal in the ending ^^ (but has the tendancy to chase arround a certain red dot that I've been trying to catch for ages) (Wait. Did I just say that?) (Guess I did :D) )

________________________________________________________________
You were tapping your foot frantically on the ground. Your fingernails had found their way into your mouth where you were currently gnawing away at them. The jacket you had pulled on when you left the apartment, long thrown on the chair next to you as your eyes flicker from the ground to the clock that was seemingly ticking unnaturally loud and then back to the door. The door in which they had taken Suga about half an hour ago. God, you never knew 30 minutes could be this long.
You don`t really know why you`re so stressed out and worried about a creature you had just found a day ago, but here you are. Maybe it was because of the way Suga had cried out in pain when the vet had examined his wounds, but your stomach was doing the flips, especially thinking about the pain he must be in right now. The vet had mentioned how the wound on Suga paw would have to be stitched. That was also your cue to leave the room. Even though you wanted to stay and take care of him you just couldn`t do needles of any kind, let alone one that would go repeatedly into his skin. So, you opted to wait for them to finish in the waiting room.
You closed your eyes, lightly shuddering at the thought of the needles, when you were rescued by the sound of the door opening. Out stepped the vet holding Suga in his hands. You jumped on your feet, worry apparent in your eyes.
“You look like you`ve seen a ghost.” The vet joked. You managed only a small smile. “Don`t worry,” he continued. “Your little friend here will manage. It was quite a deep cut, but we managed to patch him up. He has gotten some anesthesia to ease the pain so he`ll most likely sleep for the rest of the day. Give him 2 or 3 weeks to recover and he`ll be as good as new.”
Your eyes moved to Suga who was dangerously close to falling asleep and you let your shoulder relax, a sigh leaving your mouth. “Thank you doctor.” He reached his hands out, putting Suga into the crook of your arm where he almost immediately closed his eyes. A smile, this time a genuine, played on your lips at the sight.
“He also got all of his shots and although It was hard, we managed to clean his fur completely. I`m sure he`s happy to have found a new, loving home.” That was one of the last things the doctor had said to you before you paid for your visit and left. And that last part of the sentence would play on your mind the next few days. Would you keep Suga? When you found him in the alley your first thought was to help him and then bring him to an animal shelter for someone to adopt him. After all you have never had a pet, but from what you have heard from your friends it wasn`t easy to take care of an animal. They require a lot of attention and with your busy schedule you just weren`t sure if you would have enough time for Suga.
 Not a week later, however you already found yourself buying all kinds of cat accessories. From a cat bed, over toys, to all kinds of food and treats. Your mind was apparently already made up. You`d just have to make the time for him. You`d definitely keep Suga. This did not just delight you, but also Emma who, when you called her and told her the news, was screaming at you through the phone.
Although Suga was still very shy and careful around you, you two have managed to bond a little over time. He was much more open with you than before and even let you pet him regularly. His favourite spot being behind his ears. Whenever your hand would reach that spot, he`d involuntarily purr and relax under your touch, making you smile brightly at the reaction.
On bad days you would lay down beside him on the ground and just talk. You knew, or better to be said, thought he couldn`t understand you, but it helped just getting the stress and your feelings of your chest. And frankly, Suga was the perfect listener. Not that he had much of a choice that is. He`d often be laying in the sun next to your big windows while you painted, listening to you hum along to whatever song would be playing at the time and when you came home from work you couldn`t help but be excited to come home to someone else in the apartment.
At work people had noticed a change in your attitude too. It`s not like you were sad before. But now you just had that extra bounce in your step. You managed to complete your orders faster and best off all, the clumsiness from before was completely gone. Much to the excitement of your manager. She had even joked about how she would have to find someone new to drop the cups and plates from now on. Yes, your days in general were just a little brighter now that Suga was part of your days.
 Today, almost 4 weeks after your visit to the vet, you were making your way back home. In your hand a bag with an extra special treat for Suga. You had waited with buying a collar as you were unsure if Suga would like it at your place. After all, you thought your decision to keep him was only half the way to that conclusion. He`d have to choose to stay as well and you wanted to give him a bit of time to come to a decision. And as it was kind of an anniversary for you two, you thought this would be the perfect time to make it official. So, you had stopped by a shop on your way back from work, finding and personalizing the perfect collar for Suga.
“Suga, I`m back!” your voice sounded through your apartment, alerting Suga to your presence. He lazily made his way to the front door where you were working on getting your shoes off your feet, sitting down in front of you and cleaning his paw. “I have brought you a present.” You said enthusiastically, holding up the bag in your hand. Suga`s gazed followed your motion and he crooked his head in confusion.
He followed you into the living room, jumping onto your coffee table as you rustled away at the paper bag in your lap. And then you pulled out the collar. His stomach dropped. Up until now he hasn`t been thinking too much about his position. Honestly, he had originally let you take him with you because he was quite honestly in need of help during that time. He hated to admit it, but although he disliked humans, he couldn`t deny your kindness. He was surprised when you took him to the vet and even more when he was sad to see you leave the examination room, wishing you would`ve stayed as a tiny bit of fear caught him of guard.
He knew you were starting to get attached when you came home with all those cat toys and when you kept trying to coo him out of his hiding place under the end table with treats, trying to win his affection. Suga had tried to stay away as much as possible, but even he couldn`t deny it any longer. He liked it with you, and he liked you. You were the complete opposite of all the other humans he had met. The ones who had made a game of hurting him and leaving him in a dumpster. Or the ones who wanted to see how long it took for him to be too weak to fight back, just to pour all kinds of sticky liquids onto him. He never managed to get it off. And by then all other humans he met would shoo him away or walk a big circle around him in fear he would attack or something. But he had always gotten back up. He had lived off the food other people would throw away and slept under any kind of shelter he could find on the streets.
The day you had found him was one of the worst days, however. He had been strolling through the alley when a bunch of teens had decided to “play” with him for a while. This is also what had let to the big wound on his paw and he shuddered at the thought of their laughs and awful actions. Now Suga didn`t know what to do. On one hand he wanted to stay. Here he got good food, it was warm and not to forget, he was safe. Maybe even loved. On the other hand, he knew you would react badly to his true self. Suga wasn`t just a cat. He was a shapeshifter. He could stay as a cat for a long time, but not forever and would have to switch back into his human form sometime in the future. And he was scared of what you would think and do when you find out about it.
He was pulled back into the now by your voice. You sounded happy, but he could sense a bit of nervousness in your voice as well. “I thought about bringing you to a shelter,” you started. “But I found that maybe you wouldn`t want to leave this place.” Your eyes fell to the collar in your hands. “Or at least that`s what I hope.” Sugas heart was beating fast and his eyes flickered between you and the collar in your hands. He loved the idea of staying, if it wasn`t for his “condition”.
You continued, “That`s why I bought you this.” You held up the collar again. It was a minimalistic white to contrast his black fur. On the front it was adorned with a little crescent moon tag that had the name “Suga” engraved on it. Damn, he loved it. “I promise to take good care of you. You won`t ever have to worry about getting hurt or going hungry again. You can stay here if you want Suga.” He wants to. He wants to so badly. But when your hands start reaching out, the collar coming closer and closer to his neck, he panics. He can`t stay.
Suga suddenly jolts from the coffee table, making you jump a little in your seat in surprise. He runs over to the open window, gracefully leaping onto the windowsill. He takes one more look behind him, catching a glimpse of your smile fading from your lips before vanishing from your sight. Your whole body jolts up from the sofa and you bolt to the window, managing to see Suga a few seconds later balancing on the fire escape ladders and then landing on the ground before he was out of your sight once again as he makes his way into another street.
 With his now healed paw he can run quickly again. And run is what he does. He runs through street after street, only stopping when he is a few blocks from your apartment, and he feels exhaustion take over his body. He sighs, sitting down on the corner of a street and watches people walk by. His mind was racing. Would you be sad about him running away? He surely hoped so. Was it bad to wish for you to be sad that he is gone? Had he gotten too attached? He shook his head. He can`t be thinking like that. After all, the last owner he had wasn`t sad whenever he ran away. No, he was furious. That`s one of the reasons why he decided to stay away one day when he managed to escape that awful house.
You`re the same. Right? You weren`t sad about him leaving. You`d only be annoyed at how much money you had used on him and that it was for nothing. And honestly right now he felt guilty about getting your hopes up. He shook his head again. His thoughts were contradicting themselves. That is until they were interrupted by his stomach growling. Great, he couldn`t have waited with running away till after dinner, could he? Already he wasn`t looking forward to whatever he was going to eat again from now on.
 Back at your apartment you were on the phone with Emma. Slightly crying you had called her almost immediately after Suga had run away. “We have to look for him Emma. What if he`s in danger? He hasn`t even had dinner yet. He must be so hungry.” Emma was trying her best to calm you down. “Hush now y/n. He`s a cat. They tend to run around on their own. You`ve been kind, helped him and fed him. I`m sure he`ll be back soon.” Emma had always been the more logical one of the two of you. But even though you usually were convinced by her insights, this time even she couldn`t get rid of your doubts. “Listen, y/n. Let`s wait a day or two and then I`ll help you look for Suga. Alright?”
You reluctantly agreed, deciding not to completely give up on your hope of him showing up at your apartment again just yet and spent the rest of your day trying to paint. Try being the key word for nothing worked out for you right now. You settled for going to sleep early tonight in hopes of making the time go quicker. But not before making sure the window was open, in case Suga would come back in the night, and putting his collar on your nightstand. Somehow it was nice having it close by till Suga would be back. He would be back… right?

Note: Will suga come back to y/n? Well, let`s just hope nothing bad happens to him.

Lost in Love | Part Nine
Summary: You’re Hank Anderson’s daughter, Claire- and you have an obsessive nasty ex fiance, Gavin Reed. A police officer at the DPD whom you’ve been seeing for a few years. He can’t stand the fact that you fell in love with an android of all things. But no matter what he does, leaving him feels like the best decision you’ve ever made. Claire is the source of the humanity that grew in Connor, she showed him how to love- and how to feel.
Pairing: Connor x Claire Anderson (OC)
Word Count: 1.4k (Sorry it’s so short)
Warnings: Detroit Good Ending Spoilers, Violence, Abusive Ex, PTSD, Almost Sexual Assault (Very Light, Not Graphic at all),
A/N: READ TEXT BELOW. IT’S VERY IMPORTANT TO THE STORY.
SO! Connor is my favorite and this precious baby boy deserves a small fic c: enjoy! The bold word at the top of every part is the corresponding chapter in the game this chapter takes place in. This fic is going to have Connor’s chapters only, and the dialogue will be altered- this isn’t supposed to be exactly like the Game. It’s my adaptation of the story, with my own personal additions added to it. Some of the story will take place after the game’s end.
Also the whole mood for this Part is A Thousand Years Pt 2 by Christina Perri ft Steve Kazee. If you wanna listen to it while reading I 10/10 recommend. I’m also really loving this Series, lemme know what you think here.

Last Chance, Connor
The sun shone through the curtains and Claire looked to her left, pleasantly surprised to see Connor still asleep. It’s weird seeing him sleep, it makes him look so innocent, so unbelievably human. Claire smiled to herself seeing his chest steadily rise and fall, his head tilted to the side and his hands over his stomach. It’s crazy to her that he can sleep on his back, she could never get comfortable like that. Claire sat up, rubbing her eyes and felt a chill in the air. She grabbed Connor’s jacket from the end of the bed and slipped her arms through the sleeves. She stepped into the living room, grabbing a bowl and Cheerio's. Sitting down at the table, she sees Connor’s hand reach to where she was sleeping. Realizing she’s no longer there she sees Connor’s eyes open as he sits up with a yawn. He smiles upon seeing her and pulls on his shoes before making his way to the living room.
“Morning,” Claire smiles as Connor runs a hand through his hair. He sits across from her, silently watching her eat. “We have to meet my Dad in 30 minutes.” Claire tells him and he nods, “shall I go lay out something for you to wear?” Connor asks with a smile, and Claire raises an amused brow. “You wanna pick my clothes?” She asks and Connor nods, with a wave of her hand Connor is making his way back to her bedroom- heading into her closet. He emerges with a shirt cinched slightly at the waist and a pair of skinny jeans. He then reaches for a brown leather jacket she has and lays them out on the bed. The shirt is a baby pink color, and Claire smiles. It’s cute seeing him act so domestic. A half our later, Connor and Claire make their way out to the car.
“Morning Daddy.” Claire smiles, hugging him from behind. He looks her over and smiles, “you look nice.” He comments, glancing at Connor- who has not left her side since they came in. “Thanks, Connor picked it out actually.” Claire says with a shy smile when her Dad gives her a knowing smile. “Hank, my office!” The Chief calls, Hank and Connor stand before making their way into the Chief’s office. Claire sits in Hank’s chair when Gavin saunters over towards her. “Babydoll you look sexy,” He purrs, ignoring the glare on Claire’s face. “Connor picked it out.” Claire comments with a smirk on her face when Gavin’s face falls, and then hardens. “That plastic prick has seen you naked?” He says under his breath, “yep.” Claire lies. She wants more than anything to piss Gavin off. His fists clench as he leans down close to her, “he will never make you feel as good as I did.” He hisses and Claire leans in a few centimeters away and whispers, “baby he already has.” Claire lies again, pleased by the way Gavin snaps up and storms off.
“He bothering you again?” Hank asks as he walks back over with Connor behind him. Claire nods, “nothing I can’t handle.” She says noticing Connor’s worried expression. ‘I’m okay’ she mouths to him and he relaxes slightly. “We can’t just give up, we’re so close!” Connor exclaims in frustration. Hank leans back in his chair, “Connor what if were on the wrong side?” Hank says and Connor looks confused. “What if- we’re just fighting people who want to be free?” Hank asks and Connor leans in, “Lieutenant I know I can figure it out.” Connor says, and Hank sighs, “you heard him Connor. We’ve been kicked off the case, there’s nothing I can do.” He says and Connor glances at the key to the archives room- where all the evidence is being stored.
“Five minutes.” Connor begs and Hank smiles, standing. “Go, I can’t distract them forever.” Hank says, marching off and punching Gavin. Connor takes the key and Claire’s hand as they hurry to the archives room and down the stairs, ignoring Gavin when he calls their names. Connor unlocks the terminal when Claire tells him Hank’s password is ‘FUCKINGPASSWORD’. The evidence comes out of the wall and Connor scans all of the broken androids. He retrieves a part to resurrect one of the dead Deviant’s. His eyes open, but he’s blind. “Tell me where to find Jericho.” Connor says and the Deviant becomes defensive, “I don’t recognize your voice...I’ll never tell you where Jericho is!” He exclaims and Connor thinks for a moment. I watch the playback of Markus’s broadcast, “Connor, can you copy Markus’s voice? He’d tell Markus.” I whisper when Connor is within earshot.
Connor copies Markus’s voice and turns back to the Deviant, “it’s okay, it’s me. Tell me the location of Jericho, hurry we don’t have much time!” Connor says, and the Deviant relaxes. “Markus? Of course!” He says, giving Connor the key to finding Jericho. The Deviant becomes panicked, “Markus? D-Don’t leave me Markus!” He stammers before he shuts down for good. Connor and Claire turn to the exit where they see Gavin, with a gun pointed at Connor. “Gavin, don’t.” Claire pleads but he ignores her as he pulls the trigger. Connor easily dodges the bullet while also yanking Claire down into cover. Connor turns out of cover and punches Gavin in the stomach, he dodges all of Gavin’s attacks with ease before knocking him unconscious. Connor takes Claire’s hand and leads her out and up the stairs.
Crossroads
Connor and Claire easily follow the clues and are lead to a huge rusted ship with the name ‘Jericho’ painted on the side. They head inside, with Claire and Connor disguised as Deviant’s. Connor scans the carrier, “you see him?” Claire asks and Connor looks up at the second level and nods. Connor follows Markus to the deck of the ship and to where the wheel of the ship is. Claire and Connor hide out of sight, listening in on the conversation between Markus and a few other Deviant’s. Claire doesn’t know what Connor has planned, but she trusts him and will always follow him. Markus tells the Deviant’s he’s going to try to talk to the Deviant’s and one Deviant leaves the room. Markus kisses another Deviant before she too leaves. Connor and Claire approach Markus and Connor draws his gun. “What are you two doing?” Markus asks, suddenly noticing Claire is a human. “She’s a human? And you trust her?” He asks and Connor’s grip on the gun tightens. “Completely.” Connor snaps, holding onto Claire’s hand.
“You don’t have to do this, you’re one of us.” Markus says slowly, with his hands raised. He takes a tentative step when Claire realizes- this is wrong. She can’t let Connor shoot him, he’s the voice of a people who want to be free. Without Markus, their cause will crumble and fall. “You don’t have to be their slave anymore, join us and you can be free.” Markus says and Connor’s finger itches on the trigger. Claire suddenly steps in front of the gun, between him and Markus. Markus looks taken aback, he never thought a Human would risk her life to save one of theirs. “Connor, you can’t do this. They’re people, your people! Doesn’t it kill you that your people aren’t free?” Claire tries to reason, and Connor looks panicked. Torn between his duty and his heart. “Connor, if you want to shoot Markus, you’re going to have to shoot me first.” Claire tells him, looking into his eyes. His hand trembles as he struggles what to decide. His duty doesn’t matter- not anymore. The only thing in this whole world that matters is Claire. “Connor, I love you.” Claire tells him and he realizes something. He loves her. Connor pushes to break his programming, tearing each one down before it all disappears. He’s a Deviant now.
“I-I love you,” He admits, dropping the gun and the moment is shared only for a moment before he looks panicked. “They’re coming.” And then they hear the guns firing and the sounds of explosions.

Sweet Pea’s Sapphire
WARNINGS: MENTIONS OF ATTEMPTED MURDER, MURDER, NON CONSENSUAL DRUG USE, MENTAL ILLNESS
|ten|
The water turned red as Sapphire descended deeper into the water. Alice Cooper watched with wide eyes as nearly all the Serpents alongside Archie and Jughead threw off their jackets and ran forward on the fragile ice towards the area Sapphire fell in. Some of them fell as the ice cracked under them, but she didn’t have any doubt that they weren’t still trying to swim towards her. Even from a distance, she could see the water turning red as Sapphire bled. She could only hope that the young girl makes it out of this alive. She looked up to the cliff where the Black Hood had been, but the man was gone. – Sapphire was sinking. The cold water nipped at her skin at every turn. She struggled under water to get the ropes off her hands as she trying to swim upwards, but she felt her body slowly slipping into unconsciousness. Right as she gave up hope, the ropes slipped off and she swam up as quickly as she could force herself. She was just at the opening when the darkness finally claimed her, and she began to sink once more. She knew her time was up as her eyes slipped closed and only one last thought crossed her mind.
Please. Don’t forget me.
– Sweet Pea reached the area where Sapphire fell first. He dove right into the bloody water without a second thought. He looked around quickly spotting Sapphire sinking deeper into the river. The water stung his eyes as he swam after her.
Her eyes were closed, and she looked peaceful. He reached out and lapsed onto her leg. He tried to pull her towards him, but his grip was too loose, and she slipped out of his grip. He inwardly growled and swam back towards the opening.
He came up and took a breath before he was going back under not paying attention to any of the others. He swam down towards her quickly this time wrapping his arm around her waist before kicking back towards the surface. He didn’t once let his grip falter as he made his way to the opening. He broke the surface with her still in his arms before pulling both of them out of the water. Joaquin grabbed his sister while Fangs and Jughead helped him out of the water. They looked up as the sheriff brought out a small rover to take them back across the river and off the unstable ice.
Once it got by them, Joaquin and Toni wasted no time jumping on it and securing Saph who was slowing turning blue in the face. FP motioned for the vehicle to not worry about them and to hurry and get Sapphire back across the river to the ambulance.
They followed behind running and swimming quickly back towards the land. By the time they got there, Joaquin was gone in the ambulance with Sapphire. They hooked Joaquin’s bike onto the back of Fangs’ car and grabbed their jackets before getting on their respective vehicles and rushing to the hospital. – “Sapphire wake up.”
“Saph, please open your eyes.”
“Please, sis. Wake up.”
“Princess, wake up.”
“Ria, hija mía. Open your eyes.”
“Saph. Princess. Please don’t leave me. I’m sorry. Please, wake up.”
“Sapphire, come back to us. We can’t do this without you.” – Sapphire was sitting in a field. Lush green grass that she absently picked at. She was dressed in a light blue dress and she wore no shoes. Her hair was hanging free and dancing wildly in the light breeze. But she paid it no mind.
“Princess, wake up.”
Sapphire snapped her head up and looked around, but no one was there. Her eyes narrowed, but she made no motion to move.
“Ria, hija mía. Open your eyes.”
Her head whipped to the right yet there was still no one there. Open your eyes? Her eyes were already opened.
“Who’s there,” she called out. She bent down and picked up a big rock until she could find a better weapon to use. No one answered her.
“Please, sis. Wake up.”
Sis? She was an only child. And she was awake!
“Saph. Princess. Please don’t leave me. I’m sorry. Please, wake up.”
She listened carefully and that voice she knows that voice. And the other voices! She knows those voices. FP and Joaquin. And-and Sweet Pea.
“Sapphire wake up.”
That was Fangs.
“Saph, please open your eyes.”
And that was Toni.
“Sapphire, come back to us. We can’t do this without you.”
That was JugJug.
Come back to them? What did he mean? Her heartbeat sped up and she looked around the field she was in. No, she didn’t want to stay here.
She wanted her friends and her family. – December 12
Sapphire had been unconscious for six days. Her room was filled with chocolates and balloons and cards. Grammy and Mama Sweets had long ago changed her out of her hospital gown and into one of her sweater dresses. Fangs who had recovered her grandmother’s necklace slipped it around her neck and Toni had fixed her hair up.
Despite such a sad occasion, one good thing came out of Sapphire’s hospitalization. The Northside and the Serpents worked alongside each other. Or more accurately, the Serpents and Police worked together to keep all the out of town reporters from entering the hospital.
But it was on December the Twelfth when Sapphire opened her eyes. – Sapphire’s eyes opened to look at the room around her and a small gasp of pain left her as she felt the full effects of her injuries. Where was she? The last thing she remembered-
THE BLACK HOOD!
That bastard sliced her up and threw her off a cliff. She was going to kill that son of a bitch as soon as she found him. But she had more important things to worry about like three small, adorable faces staring into at her own.
“SAPPHIRE! YOU’RE AWAKE,” AJ cried out throwing his arms around her neck. His brothers followed suit each trying to make sure they claim a space in her around her. She chuckled tiredly and used all the strength she had to raise her heavy arms and hug them back.
“No wimp with an ugly ski mask can keep the Mario Kart Champ down,” she stated with a heavy voice. But the triplets didn’t say anything too busy crying into her hair and her neck. “Oh, Cerberus. Its alright. Let it out, okay?”
The boys clinged to her harder before Grammy and Mama Sweets maneuvered them around her so that they could stay lose to her on the bed without hitting disturbing her wounds or the IV in her arm.
The two women looked at her with relief before placing a kiss on each side of her head. “I swear we’re going to wrap you in bubble wrap and lock you in a tower.” – Time passed in a blur. Doctors and nurses walked in and out of her room and once they were finished, then came the visitors. Sapphire swore just about every member of the Serpents had came to visit her at least three times in the span of three hours.
Mr. and Mrs. DeSantos had rushed into the room and looked over in worry before gulfing Joaquin into a huge hug. They stayed for an hour before leaving to go back to Joaquin and Sapphire’s house where they had been staying to get her room ready for her to go back.
A part of her didn’t have the heart to tell them that she doesn’t live there anymore, but Mrs. D gave her a knowing look, so she figured the woman did know.
And then she was left in a room with three sleeping triplets surrounding her. Her adopted brother and coming through the door were the other members of the Kingpin.
It was Joaquin that stepped forward first.
“Sapphire. Mi hermana. I am so, so sorry. This is all my fault. If I wouldn’t have had never left from the beginning,” he rushed out as he gripped her hand tightly. Tears welled up into his eyes and Sapphire felt a part of her breaking.
She didn’t want to forgive him or the others. They lied to her. They replaced her. But she couldn’t help it. They were still her friends. Her family. They were all she had.
Sapphire couldn’t be alone. She wouldn’t be able to cope. Peaceful sure? But she couldn’t handle the loneliness. She couldn’t handle the abandonment.
She squeezes his hand and he looked at her. He really looked at her and she gave him a small smile.
“I forgive you,” she said. Her eyes flickered over all of them. “I forgive all of you. And what happened to me was none of your faults. The Black Hood had already targeted me, so it made sense that he’d do it again. I don’t blame you.”
If anything, she blamed herself. It was her stupidity that got her in that situation.
Sweet Pea opened his mouth o object, but Sapphire beat him, “Look, I’m tired and I’m aching. We can hash it out how it was none of your faults after I wake up.”
Her friends shared a look and gave her a hesitant nodded as she got comfortable holding onto the triplets tightly before closing her eyes and slowly falling asleep. – Sweet Pea paced around the parking lot of the Whyte Worm waiting patiently for his girlfriend to appear. His hands were stuffed in his pockets as he gazed at the ground.
It took a minute, but the familiar purr of her car pulled up and he snapped his head up to watch her slip out of her car. She looked at him before arching an eyebrow and nodding her head.
“Am I right to assume that this meeting of ours was for you to end things,” she questioned as she leaned back on to her car. Sweet Pea looked a little guilty, but Cheryl knew that this moment was a long time coming.
Sweet Pea sighed and nodded his head, “It isn’t fair for me to be with you when I still love Sapphire.”
Cheryl inwardly winced. She always knew that he still loved Sapphire. She was kidding herself to think otherwise. “Well if we’re being honest, it wasn’t fair for me to push my feelings for Toni on you. I guess- I guess I was just afraid of what my mother would say.”
Sweet Pea blinked. He so didn’t notice that she was crushing on Toni and he was going to tell the girl that as soon as they finished here. He gave her a small smirk.
“You know you’re pretty cool for a northsider,” he teased, and she huffed out of laugh.
“And you’re a decent guy for a Serpent,” she teased back. “You should give her this back and tell her to get better. We can’t be good rivals if she’s not well.”
Cheryl handed him the charm bracelet before pressing a kiss to his cheek. “You take care of yourself too, Sweet Pea.”
And then she got back into her car and sped off. Sweet Pea stood there for another moment before turning around to walk into the Whyte Worm. – Sapphire sat in front of the vanity in her room and she just looked at herself. It was Christmas and it was also her “Welcome Back”, “Glad the Creepy Dude in Ski Mask Didn’t Kill You”, and “I’d Die if You Died” parties.
She sighed a little as she picked up the scissors. Taking a deep breath, she cut her hair. She took her time cutting it before fixing the uneven parts as best as she could. Once she finished with that, she curled it and put little braids slipped little braids in it.
She moved automatically as she put on makeup and slipped her grandmother’s necklace around her neck. She turned slowly and picked up the sweater dress that she was informed to wear. She slipped on the thigh high black boots before turning to look at herself in the mirror.
An image of a lush green field crosses her mind except this time it was filled with people. She smiled lightly before standing up straight and letting a smirk pull on her lips.
She was Sapphire Maria Stone, the sole heir to Stone Enterprises. The owner of every known business on the Southside. She was a Southside Serpent. A member of the Teenage Kingpin. A Southside Gem.
She could do this. – Sapphire stood in front of the crow of reporters. She stood on the platform looking like a goddess. Her shoulders were set and her back was straight. Her eyes flickered over the crowd making eye contact but never settling. Her lips were turned upwards in a small smirk and she said nothing as she let the cameras flash wildly before she rose one hand in the air and all went quiet.
“Good morning,” she stated and Sweet Pea’s heart skipped a beat. She sounded older and more professional. She sounded untouchable and unmovable. She didn’t sound nor did she look anything like the girl that nearly drown in Sweetwater River. “Its good to have you all here, though I am sadden that you all would be here with me instead of with your families. I promise to make this quick, so that you all can get back to them as a result of that. I’m only taking five questions.”
But then a sharp glare settled onto her face as she looked into the crowd, “But also note that any slander written after this conference will be taken care of swiftly and without hesitation, ignore that and you will not have a career anymore.”
Toni and Fangs and Sweet Pea felt shivers run down their spines at the venom and heat in her words. They had never seen this side of Sapphire and by the looks on the reporters faces neither had they.
“Phire,” Joaquin whispered. “She’s channeling Phire.”
“What are you talking about,” Toni hissed.
“Saph has dissociative identity disorder. She usually has it under control to the point where she doesn’t even seem like she has it. Remember all of those times when we were younger and we would go out of town to visit family? Well we were actually going to visit specialists to help treat her.”
“Okay, but who’s Phire?”
Joaquin glanced at them before turning to look back at his sister on stage. “Saph is the girl we all know. We grew up with her and we know how she is. Sapphire Stone is heiress to Stone Enterprises that’s all business and brilliant business woman for her to be so young. But Phire? She’s every high-strung emotion in her and burned to the depths of hell. Nothing. Absolutely nothing will stand in her way to get what she wants. Its like she blackouts and nothing can get to her. She’s untouchable.”
At his words, the first thing that came to mind was when she fought Cheryl. The way she didn’t seem to hear anyone talking to her or really feel anyone touching her. They thought back to the moment when she saw them in Pop’s and how she basically ignored their existence. When she stood on stage and basically said fuck them to the whole gang. Her eyes. She was usually so expressive but her eyes they were blank. Unreadable. Untouchable. Sweet Pea remembered when he saw her kissing that boy in the hallway and how her blank her gaze was.
Was that Phire? – Back on the stage, Sapphire stood tall as she looked into the crowd of reporters. She saw Alice Cooper and Jughead sitting in the crowd. Reporters from People’s magazine and even Ebony.
“You there. With the lime green tie,” Sapphire stated pointing at a reporter. The reporter in question straighten up slightly.
“Can you let the readers know exactly what happened?”
Sapphire smirked bitterly, “I was going through a rough time. It honestly just hit me out of nowhere that this would be the eighth year that I’d be celebrating Christmas without my mom and dad. I had took a walk by myself to clear my head when this man in a ski mask knocked me…”
Her eyes went faraway as she lost herself in her memories. “I woke up all alone in this room. There were no windows or anything. It was all so quiet. So quiet. My arms were tied together and threw was a chain wrapped around my leg to keep me from going anywhere. I cant remember how long I was gone for but time seemed to drag. Everyday the man in the ski mask would come with food and I wont eat any of it. I didn’t know what was in it until one day he just snapped and punched me before he forced me to eat. And one moment I had fell asleep and the next I was being thrown off a cliff…”
She blinked slowly as she came back to reality before narrowing her eyes. The same reporter inquired, “Is there anything else you can say to describe the attacker?”
She frowned before stating, “There’s not much. He has green eyes. Soulless green eyes. And he wore an ugly patchy fake leather jacket.”
Sapphire shook her head before pointing into the crowd, “You there with red scarf.”
The reporter asked, “Has the kidnapper been caught?”
She shook her head, “No, the assailant Black Hood is still at large but Riverdale’s police force is doing everything they can to catch the man and Stark Enterprises has donated a large sum to department in hopes of speeding alongside the process.”
Sapphire slightly narrowed her eyes with a sharp smile before going, “Mrs. Cooper.”
Alice sat up straighter, “What were your injuries and are you healing alright?”
Sapphire thought for a moment, “My injuries included but were not limited to a mild case of hypothermia, deep laceration across my back, a mild concussion, a black eye, and a sprain wrist. As for my healing, I’ve been doing alright. There’s a doctor always on sight in case I start showing an increase in symptoms. “
And then a small genuine smile appeared on her face before she pointed to Jughead, “Last question. Mr. Jones?”
Jughead sat up straighter before looking at his friend. He had felt slightly unnerved by her earlier but he was relieved that she was back to herself.
“Now that you’re out of hospital, the readers would like to know how does this effect Stone Enterprises and what are your plans for the future?”
Sapphire paused. Her mind flashed back to when all of this began. Back to when Jason Blossom was still alive and being held for ransom. To when her  brother told them about his murder. To the tailgate. To homecoming. To FP getting arrested, Mustang’s death, and her brother running away. It went to finding out Sweet Pea loving her. It went to starting The Plan and the incident with Nicholas. To when all of the Serpents got arrested at school. She thought of Sweet Pea asking her to be his girlfriend, to have their night of passion. It went to when the Black Hood first targeted her to Sweet Pea cheating on her with Cheryl. She thought about when Joaquin came back. She thought of the triplets and Grammy and Mama Sweets. She thought of Stone Manor that’s been turned into a homeless facility. The lying from her friends and her kidnapping by the Black Hood.
But she finally settled on the thought of the lush green field with all of her loved ones surrounding her.
“I haven’t thought much about what shall happened to Stone Enterprises, but I am publicly announcing that we will be donating money to various charities and organizations including but not limited to the Support of LGBT Rights, Equal Rights for Women, Equal Rights for the Colored which includes but not limited to Black Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans; Homeless Facilities, Food for the Homeless, Mental Health Research and Facilities. We all have to come forth together as a whole. What happened to be was a result of a man who found the ammunition to strike by the clear divide in our town’s society. I will not- Stone Enterprises will not stand to let this to happen to anyone else…”
She leveled Jughead with a look, “My plans for the future is to bring our people together and love and support each other. I know we can only take it one day at time, so today, I’ll celebrate with my loved ones and tomorrow? I’ll do my very damn best to bring peace to your loved ones.”
Sapphire flashed the crowd another smile, “No more questions. That is all.” –
Sapphire stood outside of the Stone Manor where the Christmas parties were being held in the east end. She could hear the music faint as it were from outside, but her eyes were only focus on the her little pink pixie bestie and the redhead bombshell.
Toni had only just told her about how Sweet Pea said that Cheryl only dated him because she was trying to force her feelings for Toni onto him. Toni hadn’t known what to do with that information. She had wanted to leave it alone because Cheryl’s actions had let to Sapphire getting hurt. But Sapphire remembered the promise she made so long ago. If Cheryl was who Toni wanted, then who was she to stop it. She promised to do everything she could to get the two together, so if telling Toni that she was okay with Cheryl’s actions would be make it happen, then fine. She didn’t even blame Cheryl honestly. The poor girl had no idea that tearing away Sapphire’s happiness who would lead her to getting kidnapped and almost murdered.
Sapphire watched as Toni walked up to Cheryl. She couldn’t hear what they were saying but she could see. Oh, she could see. Toni was nervous, and she hardly ever saw nervousness in her best friend.
It felt so good to be able to say that again.
Toni had her hands stuffed in her pockets while she talked to the ginger. A small smile danced on the edges of both girls’ faces before Toni stretched her hand and motioned towards her bike. Cheryl looked a little shocked, but she did take the other’s girl hand before following her over to the bike.
Sapphire knew the two had a lot to talk about, but she could see it in their eyes that they both wanted it. – Sapphire felt eyes on her and she flicked her eyes around the area before she noticed Sweet Pea looking at her.
She turned to look at him and their eyes connected. On the inside, she wanted to cry. She wanted to scream because she was still hurting. He hurt her, and she couldn’t forgive him. At least not yet. Hell, she doesn’t know if she could at all.
But then he smiled at her and she froze. It wasn’t one of his usual smiles. Sharp and jaded with a softness to it that’s only reserved for those he holds dear. It wasn’t one of his business smiles where he makes those that cross the Serpents shake in anticipated fear and wariness.
No, this smile. This smile was the one he gave her years ago when they had first met, and he helped her up from where Scott Reynolds pushed her off the monkey bars. This smile was completely soft and inviting. It was comforting. It was a little shy yet confident.
It was a hello and a goodbye.
The scary part was now she didn’t know which was it, so she gave him her own smile back. Not a Phire smile. Not a Saph smile. Not an Heiress Sapphire Stone smile. She gave him a smile that was all just Sapphire. The one extremely similar to what she had given him back after he helped her up all those years ago.
Their first hello.
She didn’t know what this meant for the two of them. She didn’t know if this was a hello or if it was a goodbye. But the two of them just smiled at each other.
They’ll figure it out.
After all a story never ends, it continues in your heart. And she knew that without a doubt in her heart she would always be Sweet Pea’s Sapphire.

A sweet ending a series of shorts
Botan looked on at the scene with a frown. They were going after Taylor again. Why does she still call them friends….stop Botan you know better then to think like that, Taylor is amazing that’s why. He wanted to cheer her up, so he thought of something. Sweets are good so let’s make her something homemade. My question can wait.
Taylor returns back to her home with a defeated sigh. Why do they keep berating her, they’re the ones who rejected her, and now they are saying that she rejected them. She hated this. Well now she knows that her new god is her boyfriend and that was something…granted nobody else knew but…. Taylor was pulled out of her thoughts looking in the kitchen to see a mess, flour was scattered all over the counter pans were crowded in the sink and a few poorly made cakes were on the dirty counter. Her boyfriend she almost giggled at his apperence. He’s covered in flour and other baking material with a frustrated look on his face. “Uh Botan are you alright”
Botan looks up almost with a panicked expression “Taylor I uh well I wanted to cheer you up so I thought I could try to well bake for you…sweets are good and I thought I could make you some to well” he continues to rattle on about what he was trying to do and Taylor can’t help but laugh and cut off his ramblings with a kiss “Botan I love it now I’ll help you clean up then we can try the cakes alright” Botan nods mutely startled by the kiss but extremely happy to hear Taylor laugh the object in his draw long forgotten.
~~~
“This was a stupid idea”
Botan groaned laying on Taylor’s bed in only his underwear. He wanted to give her the object but he left it in his room because you know this would be a fun thing. Taylor hasn’t come home yet, it’s been a few hours and it’s now dark. Skitters her cat has taken up sleeping on Botan’s chest.
“I’m glad you’re happy furry one” he sighs petting the cat smiling listening to the cat purr “I want to tell her how much I love her but I suck at this” the cat let’s out a quiet meow and gets up with a stretch now cleaning her paws. “I wanted her to follow me so I can protect her and keep her safe always, but look at what that brought. All her friends berate her for her choices, even the gods they blame her. ” the cat licks Botan’s chest, and he let’s out a breathy laugh at the cats actions.
“I really have fallen so deeply in love with her, but I have no idea how to tell her how I feel, she’s the most amazing woman I’ve ever met, and has stolen my heart. I could be merely be a tool for her and I would be happy” he chuckles and pets the cats head “thanks for listening skitters I should get dressed, but you know what I’ll stay here for you shouldn’t ruin your bed” the cat mews and falls back asleep on Botan’s chest. I wonder when Taylor will be back he thinks to himself slowly nodding off.
Taylor has been watching, and listening to Botan’s rambles to her cat since he started. She can’t help but smile at her boyfriend, and after he’s asleep she cuddles right next to him and passes out wrapped in his arms.
~~~
Taylor was freezing, it was snowing out and her tree was getting the brunt. Each gust sent a shiver down her spine, and she refused to get out of bed. She needed another blanket, or a heater, even a fire sounds nice. Another harsh gust rattled the branches of her tree, and she let out a whimper as it chilled her to the bone.
Botan watched his girlfriend shiver in bed dropping the object in the chest in the wall then removing his shoes climbs under the covers next to Taylor cuddling her trying to heat up his body to warm his love. “B-Botan w-what are you d-doing” she leans closer despite the question.
“I’m trying to help you’re cold” his face is rife with blush “I mean I’m sorry for over stepping my bounds I just want you to be warm in this cold weather” Taylor turns around and hugs him tight still shivering but gives a sigh of relief “please don’t leave please stay with me” she asks holding him tight scared to let go.
“I wouldn’t dream of it my queen Taylor” he smiles “and this means I expect you in my bed always my knight” her words reignite the blush on his face “y-y-yes m-my L-love”
~~~
It was force of habit at this point to check that chest behind the picture in her home. What she thought would be a empty chest a small box sat in the chest, curiosity took over, and she quickly grabbed it. She hasn’t touched this chest all winter, and most of spring, and it was so close to summer, she felt like she could taste the sun. That was something else entirely as she held the small box in her hands. What was in this? Who put it there? Why a small box?
Taylor opened the box in one quick motion, and nearly drops it reading the words inside and looking at the small ring with the black gem. She smiled to herself putting on the ring regaining her composure. She placed the small black box on Botan’s dresser with a note that days yes, and went on her daily activities with the ring on her finger making sure everyone sees it, but never explaining it.
Botan returned back to his room seeing the open black box, his heart sank until he read the note, and he smiled. His heart swelled with a raw happiness that enveloped his whole being. She said yes. “She said yes” he says out loud after his thoughts race with the phrase. As soon as he heard steps and Taylor’s voice he quickly rushed to her side and kissed her….. Not realizing that ome and sky were with you as he continued. “I love you so much ” he pulls her in a tight hug “my queen I love you so much my queen Taylor” Taylor gives out a small startled squeak as she laughs “I love you too Botan my lovely knight ”
Ome and Sky quickly and silently leave the home obviously in a moment they shouldn’t see, nor do they agree with, but that is for a different day. For now the happy couple enjoys there embrace.
When the invitations went out there was much arguments but Taylor was happy and so was Botan. Complaints fell on deaf ears.
Chapter 3: The Holy Sacred Divine Meditation
“So... now what?” Gonta asked to no one in particular.
“Ask Shirogane,” Ryouma answered. “She was the one who gathered us in the backyard in the first place.”
“Well, it ought to be something special enough for all of us to witness together,” Shinguuji said. “Also, what on earth is Momota-kun doing? I wonder...”
Kaito didn’t budge in the slightest. He was focusing at the Saihara and Maki who were busy chatting and laughing together.
“Ah... Gonta gets it!” he said. “Momota-kun is jealous because Harukawa-san and Saihara-kun are having fun without him!”
“I-I’m not jealous!” Kaito tried to deny it despite his apparent stuttering.
“And then there are those lovebirds,” Ryouma pointed at Rantarou and Kaede who were gazing at the night sky together.
Kaede was sitting on the ground. Rantarou was laying down and resting his chin on Kaede’s head, causing her to flinch a bit. “Oh, sorry,” he apologized to Kaede while holding her so she wouldn’t fall off. “On second thoughts, I kinda wanna say thanks to Ouma-kun now,” Rantarou sighed in relief while leaning his head on Kaede’s back. “It’s only a few hours, but it’s been the fluffiest moment I’ve had with you...”
Kaede stared at him in disappointment.
“That was terrible, wasn’t it?” Rantarou sighed.
“Meow,” Kaede nodded.
“Well, Yumeno-san did say that you’ll be back to normal at 3am,” Rantarou said again. “So might as well cherish the moment while I can.”
Rantarou sat on the ground as he lifted Kaede onto his lap and pet her head, causing her to purr in happiness. Kaede curled herself on Rantarou’s lap to relax while wagging her tail. Rantarou smiled at his girlfriend’s antics and continued petting her head. “So cuuute...!” he squealed under his breath.
Without either of them realizing, Kokichi pulled Kaede’s tail by surprise. Kaede was startled and she clawed him.
“Akanyatsu-chan, that hurts!” Kokichi complained. “Also you’re welcome, Amami-chan. Nishishi~”
Both Rantarou and Kaede glared at him. “You have to ruin the mood,” Rantarou nagged.
“Yeah, yeah, sorry for interrupting your honeymoon,” Kokichi shrugged. “Also you two should thank Yumeno-chan as well. She was the one who chanted the spell, after all.”
“Didn’t expect you to remember Yumeno-san,” Rantarou smirked. “Thought you’d want the credits all for yourself.”
“Well, of course I’d remember Yumeno-chan! She’s my future wi...zard, after all.”
“Future wizard?” Rantarou challenged him.
“Yeah! Future wizard! She’s already amazing as a wizard in training, so she’ll definitely be my brilliant wizard in the future!”
“Your wizard in the future? Does she really have to be yours?”
“Yes! You heard that, Yumeno-chan?”
Himiko pretended to be meditating so she wouldn’t have to deal with Kokichi.
“Yumeno-chaaan~!” Kokichi called her again, but Himiko tried her best not to respond.
“Interrupting the holy sacred divine meditation is an action forbidden by God~” Angie replied in Himiko’s stead. “Please refrain from disturbing Himiko. She needs tranquility and inner peace to achieve Nirvana.”
“What the—Nirvana?!” Tenko was shocked. “Are you saying that Yumeno-san is going to heaven?! Is she going to die?! Tenko will not let that happen!!”
“Of course not~” Angie said to Tenko. “A great arch wizard like Himiko won’t die that easily~ She just needs to achieve Nirvana to open her chakras, so she will be an even greater arch wizard~ It’s basically the same thing with Tenko’s aikido training, y’know~”
“Well, uh... i-if it’s a training for Yumeno-san, then... Tenko will support it! As long as it’s for Yumeno-san’s sake!" Tenko said. "Can Tenko also meditate?”
“That’s right~! Tenko can also meditate by herself for spiritual training~ If Tenko opens her chakras, then Tenko can also be an even stronger aikido master~ Kokichi and Rantarou and Kaede can also meditate together with Himiko and Angie~”
“Um, no thanks...” Rantarou refused.
“Eeeeh~?! But the holy sacred divine meditation is really good for spiritual health~!” Angie pouted. “The holy sacred divine meditation can also help Rantarou to clear his mind, so he can do better in exams~ Maybe he can even remember what his SHSL talent really is~ Kaede can also meditate to get more inspirations to compose new songs~ Even an evil person like Kokichi can be purified with the holy sacred divine meditation~!”
“Me? Purified? Pffft! Don’t make me laugh, Angie-chan!” Kokichi bragged. “I’m proud to be evil! I don’t need to be purified!”
“By the way, Angie-san,” Gonta called her. “Is it okay of Gonta also meditates? After hearing what Angie-san said, Gonta thinks that he can be closer to nature by meditating. Maybe meditating can also help Gonta to be a better gentleman.”
“Of course~! Everyone is welcomed by God~” Angie answered.
“Momota-kun, Hoshi-kun, Shinguuji-kun, you three should meditate as well!” Gonta told the other three guys.
“N-nah...” Kaito refused.
“I appreciate you offer, Gokuhara,” Ryouma said. “But no thanks.”
“Well, Gonta won’t force you if you don’t want to...” Gonta sighed and rested himself on the ground.
“I shall meditate with you, Gokuhara-kun,” Shinguuji answered. “I might acquire spiritual peace to hone my talent as a Super High School Level Anthropologist.”
“Thank you, Shinguuji-kun!” Gonta said. “That’s really good of you!”
Gonta, Tenko, and Shinguuji then sat down cross-legged and started meditating.
Maki was listening to Saihara’s mystery stories when she was distracted by the sight of four people meditating together. “...What are they doing?” she asked. “I know they’re meditating, but...”
“Honestly, I don’t know either,” Saihara answered.
“Shuuichi, Maki, you two should do the holy sacred divine meditation as well~!” Angie called them.
“Sorry, Yonaga, but I’m not interested,” Maki refused.
“No offense, Angie-san, but...” Saihara said, but Angie cut his sentence off before he could finish.
“Eeeeh~?! Why not?!” Angie protested. “The holy sacred divine meditaion can help Shuuichi to clear his mind, y’know? A clear and peaceful mind is necessary for a detectitve to solve cases, right~? Maki can also meditate to enhance her motherly instinct as a caregiver~!”
“T-Toujou is the one with motherly instinct, not me,” Maki sulked and fidgeted her hair.
“ ‘S okay, HaruMaki!” Kaito told her. “Shuuichi’s already a good father candidate, so I believe that he’ll help you to develop your motherly instinct further! I’m saying this not only as his boss, but also the future godfather of your future baby!”
“F-future baby?!” Maki was shaking. “D-don’t just decide things by yourself, idiot!”
“By the way, where did Amami-kun and Akamatsu-san go?” Saihara changed the topic.
“What are ya two lovebirds in mating season doing around here?!” Miu scolded Rantarou and Kaede who were on the balcony.
“Just looking at the sky and stuff,” the green-haired boy answered. “Well, what are you doing here, Iruma-san? Shouldn’t you be helping Shirogane-san and the others with the preparation and stuff?”
“I-I’ve done my part!” Miu answered with a smug grin to hide her stuttering. “K-Kiibo’s taking care of everything else with Four-Eyed Weeb and Maid Hag.”
“Oh,” Rantarou answered.
“ ‘Oh’?! That’s it?! You’re supposed to be more like ‘Whoa, that’s amazing!’ when the beautiful genius inventor Iruma Miu-sama give ya some latest update!!”
Rantarou and Kaede blankly stared at her.
“W-why are ya two staring me like that?!”
The two still stared at Miu.
“S-stop it, ya Avocado Fuckboy!!”
They didn’t stop staring at her.
“I-I was just joking earlier, ‘kay?! I’m sorry!”
“Yeah, yeah, I forgive you,” Rantarou sighed.
“Iruma-san, my preparation has finished,” Kiibo said as he arrived at the balcony.
“O-okay, I’m coming!” Miu answered. “Get it? ‘Coming’. Hyahyahyahyahya...!”
“Please refrain from saying unnecessary dirty things, Iruma-san,” Kiibo warned her. “Amami-kun, Akamatsu-san, you two should gather with everyone else in the backyard as well.”
“Alright, we’ll catch up later,” Rantarou said to the robot.
“Welp, Kiibo and I are gonna go now! Cya~!” Miu said to them and left with Kiibo.
Right after the two left, Kaede yawned and fell asleep while standing on the balcony handrail.
“Whoops,” Rantarou caught her so she wouldn’t fall off. Then, he pulled Kaede into his arms and kissed the top of her head. “Cats do sleep almost all the time, huh?” he giggled.
Tsumugi and Kirumi couldn’t believe what they saw.
“Ajaraka mokuren kyuraisu tegeretsuno... pa!” Shinguuji chanted.
“Gonta is a gentleman, Gonta is a gentleman, Gonta is a gentleman...” Gonta chanted repeatedly.
“Eeeeeh~?! Angie totally didn’t expect Korekiyo and Gonta to chant their prayers so loudly~!” the religious girl commented.
Tsumugi’s mouth was agape in confusion.
“Me too, Shirogane,” Maki told her before she could say anything.
“Oh, okay,” Tsumugi answered.
“At any rate, I’ve prepared everything we’re going to need for the camping,” Kirumi said while carrying some sleeping bags and firewood, deciding not to bother with the meditiating ones.
“I brought some snacks too~!” Tsumugi cheered and showed off her stash.
“Whoa whoa, firewood? We’re seriously gonna make some campfire?!” Kaito asked.
“Well I did say we were going to go camping,” Tsumugi said again. “But it’s more that just a regular camping!”
“What do you mean by that?” Saihara asked.
“Hm hm hmm...” Tsumugi smirked and adjusted her glasses. “Wait until Kiibo-kun and Iruma-san arrive to find out!”
“Wait a sec,” Kokichi interrupted. “You actually get that dirty shitty uncooperative bitch to help you? What is it for her? Did you offer yourself to be her one-night stand or something?”
“N-No!!!” Tsumugi declined. “I just... I only bribed her with my hentai doujinshis, that’s all!!”
Rantarou who was behind Ryouma spat the green tea he was drinking.
“Amami, when did you get back here?!” Ryouma asked.
“Just now,” Rantarou answered.
“And where did that tent next to Rantarou come from?” Angie asked.
“Oh, I found it in the storage room,” Rantarou answered.
“Um, Angie-san... can I meet favorite anime characters in my meditation?!” Tsumugi asked.
“Of course! Anything is possible with the holy sacred divine meditation~” Angie answered.
“Okay then!” Tsumugi said as she sat down and started meditating with the others.
“Angie will meditate as well~” she said as she followed Tsumugi.
“I still have some other things to do,” Kirumi said as she put down the sleeping bags and firewood she was carrying. “Kiibo-kun and Iruma-san might need me.”
Kirumi then went off to get Kiibo and Miu.
“What are Kiibo-kun and Iruma-san doing, anyway?” Saihara asked right after Kirumi left.
“Dunno,” Kaito shrugged.
“Well, Shirogane did say it’s supposed to be a surprise,” Maki added.
“More that that, Amami,” Ryouma asked him. “Where did you and Akamatsu go to earlier?”
“Well, I was just trying to find a tent for Kaede to stay in,” Rantarou answered. “I also borrowed Shirogane-san's PJs for her. I mean, she’s kinda not wearing anything right now. So if she transforms back into a human when she’s in front of everyone, then things are gonna get... peculiar.”
“I thought you were avoiding Ouma,” Maki joked.
“Yeah, there’s that too.”
Kokichi gasped hysterically. “Did Harukawa-chan just make a joke?!”
“So what if she did?!” Saihara replied. “You’re not the only comedian in our class!”
“Yeah! HaruMaki can’t be a tsukkomi forever!” Kaito added. “She’s gotta be Shuuichi’s boke once in a while!”
“Wait, why am I the tsukkomi?” Saihara was confused.
“Because you’re plain and has no humor sense, Saihara-chan,” Kokichi said.
“Oi! Shuuichi does have humor sense, ‘kay?!” Kaito scolded him. “It’s just that Shuuichi and HaruMaki switch turns to be the boke and tsukkomi each time!”
“Stop talking like we’ve been performing manzai since forever!” Maki protested.
“You might want to keep it down,” Ryouma warned them. “If you’re too loud, Yonaga might stop her meditation midway and threaten to curse us again. Not that I believe in curses, I just don’t want to deal with her rubbish any further.”
In the middle of their bickering, a smell of burnt woods emerged all of a sudden. Kaito was the first one to sniff that smell. “Is something burning here?!” he panicked.
“Don’t worry, it’s just Amami-kun starting the campfire,” Saihara reassured him.
“It was kinda getting colder here, so... yeah,” Rantarou said as he put Kaede inside one of the sleeping bags.
“HYAHYAHYAHYAHYAAAA...!!! Miss me, ya small fries?!!” Miu made an entrance with Kiibo and Kirumi following her. Without caring about everyone else’s reactions, she went to see the people who were meditating. “Also what are y’all doing?! Oooooi!”
“I believe that they are meditating, Iruma-san,” Kiibo told her. “Please do not disturb them.”
“Oh. Must be Alolan Lunatic’s idea, huh?” Miu hissed. “Oh well!”
“Moreover, Iruma-san,” Saihara said. “Shirogane-san said that you and Kiibo were going to do something special for the camping. What is it, exactly?”
“Oh! That, huh? Four-Eyed Weeb said that she wanted a camping where everyone can request their own song to listen to, so I installed a jukebox function in Kiibo’s body! Complete with infinite collection of music library!”
500 yen that most of the songs are pirated, Kaito thought.
Make it 1000, Saihara looked at him.
What the—Shuuichi, you can hear me?! Kaito thought.
“The music will pause when I start talking,” Kiibo added. “So you don’t need to worry about missing some parts of the song you were listening nor not being able to talk to me while I’m playing the music.”
“HYAHYAHYA...!!! Amazing, ain’t I?!” Miu bragged. “As expected from the beautiful genius inventor Iruma Miu-sama!!!”
“Then how do we request the song that we want?” Saihara asked.
“Here! I made some control panels for y’all!” Miu said while giving away some things that looked like mini touch screen pads to everyone. “The detailed instructions are all in there! I’m too lazy to explain to y’all small fries ‘cause your shrimp brains won’t understand it anyways!”
“Should we wait until everyone else finish meditating?” Saihara asked.
“Don’t tell me that you actually believe in the curse that she said,” Maki replied.
“Uh, no, I’m just trying to respect other people who are doing their own activities,” Saihara replied.
“Well if we play classic music, they should be fine,” Rantarou suggested, already tampering with his control panel. “I don’t think classic music will disturb them that much.”
“Heh! Ya just want an excuse to hear a piano music ‘cause your girlfriend currently can’t play it, don’tcha?!” Miu hissed.
Rantarou didn’t bother to reply her. He just pressed the play button. Kiibo then transformed himself into a jukebox and Turkish March by Mozart started playing. Rantarou then wrapped himself in his sleeping bag and took some snacks. “It’s catchy, okay?!” he protested.
Before anyone could react, Gonta suddenly stood up and shouted, “YOSH!!”
“What the f—GONTA DON’T SURPRISE ME LIKE THAT!!!” Kaito scolded him.
“S-sorry, Momota-kun,” Gonta apologized. “It’s just that... after meditating, Gonta finally feels closer to the nature, even if it’s just a little bit.  Gonta also feels more gentlemanly now.”
“My meditation is completed...” Shinguuji said. “Yonaga-san was indeed right about the meditation. I feel that my spiritual sense as a Super High School Level Anthropologist has improved.”
“Tenko also feels fresher after meditating!” Tenko said. “Angie-san’s meditation really works!”
“I also feel fresher and more magical!” Himiko said. “I can finally curse Ouma for good!”
“YES PLEASE!!!” Kaito exclaimed.
“Angie has achieved Nirvana again~” Angie said.
Just how many times she’s achieved Nirvana?! Saihara thought.
“I even found out what’s in Eren’s basement!” Tsumugi said.
“Shirogane-san, you’re like 4 centuries late,” Rantarou said. “No one cares about that anymore.”
“Well I do...” Tsumugi sulked. “And the jukebox is already finished! Thanks, Iruma-san!”
“W-well, t-those doujins better be worth it, ‘kay?!” Miu said. “If they suck, then I’ll kick your ass so hard, ya won’t be able to get pregnant!”
“O-okay...” Tsumugi answered.
After that, What’s New Pussycat started playing from the juke box.
Oi, Momota-kun! Saihara glared at Kaito.
Huh? Kaito glared back.
Don’t tell me you requested to play it 21 times while also adding It’s Not Unusual in between, Saihara glared at him again.
So what if I did? Kaito smirked at Saihara.
“Shirogane-san, what’s a... jook box?” Gonta asked.
“Jukebox is basically like a music box but REALLY big. Normal jukebox is operated with coins, but Iruma’s jukebox doesn’t cost any money. It’s operated with this control panel thing instead,” Kaito explained.
“Eeeeh? Momota-chan sure knows a lot about jukebox, huh?” Kokichi sneered. “I wonder how much you wasted to play What’s New Pussycat 21 times in every jukeboxes you find...”
“S-shut up!” Kaito protested.
“Momota-kun, can you please teach Gonta how to use the control panel?” Gonta asked.
“ ‘Kay,” Kaito said. “So you click it here, and...”
Kaito continued to give Gonta the instructions to operate the control panel jukebox.
“...How do you skip songs?” Maki asked after the second What’s New Pussycat started playing.
“Ya can’t,” Miu answered.
“Tch.”
Then What’s New Pussycat played again.
And again.
And again.
And again.
“The song actually fits for Bakamatsu and Avocado Fuckboy ‘cause it’s about flirtin’ with a pussycat! HYAHYAHYAAAA...!!!” Miu joked to brighten the situation.
Rantarou gave a cynical glare at her.
“W-w-what?!” Miu protested. “L-learn to take a joke, will ya?!”
“I should be the one saying that...” Rantarou said.
At some point, the song finally changed into It’s Not Unusual.
“...Finally,” Maki sighed in relief.
Not too long after that, What’s New Pussycat played again.
“Oh, come on!!” Maki complained.
After a seemingly never-ending cycle of What’s New Pussycat being repeated, a new song finally started playing.
“When I was a young boy... My father took me into the city... to see a marching band...” Saihara sang along with the song “He said, ‘Son, when you grow up... would you be the savior of the broken... the beaten, and the damned?’”
“Nishishi~” Kokichi giggled. “Looks like Saihara-chan is still in his phase, after all.”
“It’s not a phase, Ouma-kun! This is who I am!” Saihara cried from the bottom of his lungs. “Okay, where was I? Ehm. To lead you in the summer... to join the black parade...”
“...He actually doesn’t sound half bad,” Maki complimented.
“Actually yeah,” Kaito replied, already playing air drum before realizing it himself.
“And when you’re gone we want you all to know... WE’LL CARRY ON...!!!” Saihara continued singing.
“WE’LL CARRY ON...!!!” Kaito sang along, albeit his vocals are rather sub-par in comparison to Saihara. “Though you’re dead and gone, believe me,your memory will CARRY ON...!!! WE’LL CARRY ON...!!! And in my heart I can contain it, the anthem won’t explain it!”
“Aaand you ruined it...” Maki complained.
After Saihara and Kaito finished singing, Careless Whisper’s saxophone intro started playing from the jukebox.
“Who requested this one?” Shinguuji asked.
“Probably Amami-chan,” Kokichi guessed. “Amami-chan likes to play this song every night, huh? Especially when he’s doing “that” with Akamatsu-chan... Nishishi~”
“Why is Careless Whisper so infamous as a sex song? I don’t get it...” Rantarou complained.
“Amami-kun is right,” Kirumi added. “If you actually understand the lyrics, you would know that the song is about a man who regretted cheating on his partner.”
“It’s the sexy sax, I’m tellin’ ya!” Miu exclaimed.
Ryouma was standing apart from everyone else while looking at the night sky by himself. “Amami wasn’t the one who requested Careless Whisper,” he said. “I did.”
“Oh...” Kaito was awed.
“So Shirogane-san, how long are we going to do this?” Saihara asked.
“ALL NIGHT LONG!!!” Tsumugi cheered.
“...Eh?”
Author’s Note:
Whew, finally after centuries of no update. And next chapter will most likely be the last one, so yeah.
About Boke and Tsukkomi, both of them are terms in Manzai (Japanese standup comedy where the performers are a duo)—Boke (funny guy) says the joke, while Tsukkomi (straight guy) fixes the dumb things the boke says. In case you don’t know about Manzai yet.
So... did I overuse the wiggly thing (~) on Angie’s speech?
Last but not least, I hope you enjoy this fic ^o^
RFA reacting to MC sleeptalking
Wuhu, I´m back!o(≧∇≦o) but seriously, the only reason I´m writing right now is that I don´t want to learn for my maths exam….
_Yoosung_
° believe it or not, some people can´t take staying up till 4AM playing LOLOL
° you were one of those people ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
°  so while Yoosung kept playing you went to bed and fell asleep as soon as you hit the pillow
° even MC has hard days…
° that night you had a wonderful dream about you and Yoosung
° you went on a date, he bought you some ice cream and after that you had a picnic in the park
° but he got so much ice cream on his clothes XD you laughed
° after loosing two rounds, Yoosung decided his concentration was Long gone and it was time for sleep
° honestly while walking to the bedroom he was already half asleep ( ̄へ ̄)
° at this Moment there was only one thing he desired, go to bed and sleep so bascally everything I wannna do in school
° he quietly closed the door in order not to wake you
° he knew that meant death
° he stopped mid-movement when he thought he heard someone talk
° “You dummy, now you got ice cream all over your shirt.”
° he didn´t misheard, you were talking
° in your sleep
° soooooo cute
° overwhelmed by your cuteness he even forgot about you calling him a dummy XD
° from this day on, he kept this as his little secret
_Jaehee_
° it was one of those days when she came home so late you were already asleep
° it was ok for you, although it was a bit lonely going to bed by yourself
° anyway you brushed your theeth and went to bed
° the TV was still on when you fell asleep because you felt less alone with some voices ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
° Jaehee came home long past midnight
° someone messed up some documents and guess who had to fix it?
° right, it was Jaehee… who else ? (⌣_⌣”)
° but when she finally returned home she immediately went to the bedroom and just wanted to fall into the covers
°  meanwhile you tossed and turned in your sleep, like you had a nightmare
° which was kind of the case here
° in your dream, Jaehee left you to be with Jumin for which reason whatsoever
° you screamed after her, but she apparently couldn´t hear you
° “No, don´t leave me! Please stay..”
° there was no use, she never looked back..
° so sad ಠ╭╮ಠ
° Jaehee was scarred when she heard your voice after she turned off the TV
° who shouldn´t leave you? she was confused…(・_・ヾ
° you started screaming and kicked the Sheets
° “Jaehee! Don´t leave me, I love you!”
° she sat down on the bed and slowly petted your hair to calm you down
° “Don´t worry, I won´t leave you. Ever. I can prmise you that.”
° you calmed down after that and you two were able to find a good nights sleep in the end
° the next day she wanted to ask you about the dream but you came to her telling her about this nightmare you had
° so, no reason for her to increase your discomfort by telling you about the sleeptalking ;)
_Zen_
° whenever you had trouble sleeping he would tell you a bedtime story
° he had a very calming voice so they worked in 9 out of 10 cases
° those storys were all fairytales about knights and princesses
° he was talking about you two
° today he told you a Story about the kinight who wanted to resue his princess but got injurned while doing that
° you fell asleep before you heard the end and so your subconciousness thought of one
° in your dream the princess saved the Knight who turned out to be a prince from a far away country〈(゜。゜)
° the two married and lived happily ever after Awwwww
° of course you were the princess and Zen was your prince
° even after realizing that you slept Zen stayed at your side and watched over you (´∀`)♡
° he knew you had the tendency to talk in your sleep, mostly about your dreams
° he was aware of that, you never knew about it.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
° “I love you too, my prince. I´m glad you aren´t a Knight and we can be together.”
° he was hurt and angry
° so he decided to wake you which you should never do because it is a dick-move
° “Zen, why did you wake me up? I had so a nice dream..”
° “You cheated on me.”
° he was sulking
° “Who is that prince and why is he better thn the Knight anyway?”
° at first you were confused, then you realized he talked about your sleep
° but how did he know about it?
° it didn´t matter to you at the moment because you were still tired and longed to go back to sleep
° so you explained it to him and he seemed satisfied
° “So I´m worth being a prince and a knight? I always knew I have the Talent to be both.”
° his narcissm kicked in and that meant you could sleep again
° but this time he joined you in the bed and for your dream he rewarded you with lots of cuddles
° “Zen, you still haven´t told me why you knew about my dream…”
°“Just go to sleep princess.”
_Jumin_
° Just like Jaehee he came home late frequently
° you were never really alone since Elisabeth was there but it wasn´t like could hold a conversation with her
° once more you went to bed with Elisabeth and without your husband
° she curled up behind your back and started to purr
° calmed by the soft vibrations you dazed off into sleep
° you dreamed about your honeymoon
° Europe, blue water, White sand and cold drink, who Needs more in order to be happy?
° I don´t
° all in all, it was a dream that reminded you of the sweet time you had just for yoour own
° a couple of minuites before midnight Jumin returned to the penthouse
° he didn´t expect you to be still awake, rather he´d be angry if you´d stay up so late
° so he was pleased to see you were already asleep
° his heart made ajump of happiness when he saw Elisabeth next to you (ノ^∇^)
° he took his phone out of his pocket and tried to take the Picture
° the mainword here is try XD
° the photo was just a black room, so he activated the camera-flash idk how you call this XD
° bad Thing, the light caused your happy dream to turn into a nightmare..(O∆O)
° the once sunny and warm day turned into a storm with lightning and thunder
° in the panick this storm caused you lost sight of Jumin
° “Jumin, where are you? Come back!”
° you turned around and made some strange noises like you were really uncomfortable
° Jumin felt bad, thinking that it was his fault which it kind if was..
° “No need to worry my dear, I will never leave you.”
° he decided to lay down on the bed and hold you in his arms
° your sleep became peaceful once again and when you woke up the next morning you still were in the arms of your beloved one
_Saeyoung/Seven_
° we all know he is kind of paranoid….
° so he was always afraid you might leave
° furthermore he didn´t get the Signals he needed from you and lived with fear
° in order to knew when you would leave, he thaught you definetly would…◑.◑
° so there were cameras in most of the room, exept for the bathroom (he removed the one there when you kindly asked him)
° he had a very twisted sleeping behaviour, work at night and sleep at day
° but some people had a… I don´t know… normal job
° so each of you usually had to sleep alone, which made you very sad へ[ •́ ‸ •̀ ]ʋ
° whenever he had a bit of spare time he went into the bedroom and said how sorry he was to your sleeping form
° it was too embarassing for him to tell you that when you were awake
° but you were a really deep sleeper, he could literally listen to heavy metal on full volume, right next to you, you wouldn´t care..
° meaning: safe time to talk like a waterfall infront of you σ(≧ε≦o)
° one night, when he felt the urge to talk again he took a chair and sat next to the bed
° and then he talked and talked and talked
° at first he didn´t notice you talking
° “You know MC, I´m afraid you´ll leave me and then I´ll be alone again and then I´ll become depressive and then…”
° “Saeyoung… don´t cry… I´ll never leave, I´ll stay with you..”
° he was like whaaaat? Σ(゜ロ゜;)
° he was so happpy, he started to cry, of course they were tears of joy (♥ω♥*)
° a normal boyfriend would do something sweet like preparing breakfast the next morning or buying flowers…
° buuut he wasn´t normal to begin with
° so he woke you…. by shaking you and screaming your Name
° “MC!!! Wake uuup!!”
° what a caring man he is…
° you woke up, slapped him and went back to sleep ⊂((・▽・))⊃
° hey, who said you couldn´t be mean when he was ???
° but to make up for it he took a day of and was the most caring boyfriend a Girl could imagine (in reality he just skipped work ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
° and you didn´t know but with your subconcious confession you took one hell of a load of his shoulders
So, that´s it …… for know! I´ll add V and Saeran tomorrow when I´m finished with my exam. Promise!         o(≧∇≦o)
But I wanted to upload at least this much since I was awya last week…
If you enyoed reading, I´d be very happy if you´d leave a like or a comment. If you a request or a HC you always wanted to read, don´t feel afraid and send it to me (/^▽^)/
20. “D..did you justmake that noise?
Scully watches Mulder turn off the light in the bathroom,finally, and she considers a suggestive pose just to surprise him. Mulder,however, is quicker than her thoughts and before she knows it, he is under thecovers with her.
“Hello.” He breathes against her, leaving wet kisseson her neck and making her chuckle. His mouth leaves her and before she hastime to complain, then he’s on all fours over her, eliciting soft laughter fromher that turns into a full belly laugh when he starts to growl and purr.
“Mulder, stop that!” Scully swats his bicep and pretendingto be wounded, he falls down next her.
“I was going to use my mouth for other thingsanyway.” He lets his hand sneak under her pajama top, tickling herribcage, wandering up until he finds her breast. Just as his mouth is about todescend on hers, their bedroom door flies open and five year old Will sprintstowards them. Mulder rolls away from Scully as quickly as possible, almostfalling off the bed in the process. Luckily, her pajama top falls back intoplace as soon as his hand is gone.
“D…did you just make that noise?” Uncertain if hecan just jump into bed, Will clings to one of the bed posts.
“What noise, honey?” Scully asks him, holding outher hand to him. He takes it and climbs into their bed.
“The noise,mommy. Like… like an animal.” He whispers the last word, afraid that if hesays it louder, it might make it real.
“There’s no animal here,” Scully assures her son,running her hand through his tousled hair, “.” Will tilts his head,considers her answer and obviously, doesn’t quite believe her, “Look, there’snothing here.”
“I heard the noise.” Will tells her in a perfectimitation of his father, who Scully can feel grinning next to her.
“Come on, buddy, we’ll check under the bed and in yourroom. If there’s nothing, you can go back to sleep. Sound like a plan?”Mulder asks him and Will nods slowly, his expression still doubtful. With asigh, Mulder rolls out of bed, picks up Will and Scully listens to theircombined noises. Mulder is telling his son something she can’t quite make out.His voice is a deep, soothing rumble and Scully finds her own eyes drift shut.
“Hey, Will is asleep.” It’s either ten minutes orten hours later when Mulder mumbles the words against her neck, picking upexactly where they left off.
“So am I, Mulder.” Scully groans, not even openingher eyes.
“Aw, Scully.” Mulder pouts.
“What was the problem anyway?” Scully shifts sothat she’s lying on her side. Mulder immediately draws her closer to him andshe smiles, reveling in his warmth.
“Just a bad dream I guess. Are you sure you’retired?”
“Hm, maybe not that tired.” She admits and plungesher tongue into his mouth, startling him. He recovers quickly, deepening theirkiss. His hands begin to roam, take the same liberties they wanted to takeearlier. Scully moans into his mouth and then a scream tears through the sizzlingmood. They break apart immediately, entangling from each other, and run out ofthe bedroom and right into Will, who smacks into Mulder’s legs.
“Hey, buddy, what happened?” Mulder picks him upand Scully examines him from head to toe, searching for something; a scratch, awound, anything. Apart from his soft crying he seems fine, though, and shebreathes a sigh of relief.
“You said you’d stay.” Will accuses his father, digginghis index finger into his chest.
“I said I’d say until you fell asleep.” Mulder kissesthe boy’s temple as Scully strokes his back, hoping to calm him down.
“I woke up again.” Will sobs, burrowing his headin Mulder’s neck.
“Honey, you need to sleep. You’ve got schooltomorrow.”
“I can’t sleep, mommy,” he wipes his runny noseagainst Mulder’s shirt before he looks at Scully, tears still swimming in hisbright blue eyes. “What if the Chupcra gets me?”
“The what?” Scully asks, her eyes finding Mulder’sand when a flicker of guilt passes on his face, she gets a faint idea of whatall of this is about.
“Daddy told me about the Chupcra. What if he gets me?”
“Did daddy tell you about the Chupacabra?” Will nods. “Honey, the Chupacabra is not real.It’s just a story your daddy shouldn’t have been telling you.”
“No, he’s real.Daddy says he’s real. Right, daddy?”
“Well, youknow, Will… he might be real,” Scully clears her throat, “but yourmother is right; it’s just a story. You know, like all the other stories I’vetold you.”
“You said theywere all real!” Will gasps. Scully watches Mulder squirm, unable to answertheir son. If he’s expecting her to help him, he’s definitely out of luck.
“They’re not,Will. They’re all just… stories.”
“Hmpf.”The boy lets go of Mulder’s arms and slides down to the floor.
“If theChupcra’s not real, I can sleep. I thought he was real!” Will throws hishands in the air, dramatically. He shuffles towards his room and Scully iscertain that he’ll be asleep in no time.
“So, Mulder,why did you think it would be a good idea to tell our five year old son aboutthe Chupacabra?”
“He loves hearingabout the x-files, Scully,” Mulder assures her, gently steering hertowards the bed again, “You should have heard him laughing when I told himabout the Flukeman. Didn’t care about Mothmen either. He’s your son, Scully. Idon’t know why this story bothered him so much.”
“Next time tellhim something from Disney, Mulder.” Scully says, getting under the covers.
“You know, manyof those Disney movies are based on actual-”
“Good night,Mulder.”
“Hey Scully,I’m pretty sure that Will will stay in his room now.”
“You missedyour chance, Mulder.”
“Should havetold him a Disney story.” Mulder mumbles, then sighs and Scully smiles asshe feels him settle himself against her. To sleep.
The Cat that Walked by Himself
Doc on Google Drive | Simple HTML
Rudyard Kipling (1902)
Edited by Jesse Steele
Hear and attend and listen; for this befell and behappened and became and was, O my Best Beloved, when the Tame animals were wild. The Dog was wild, and the Horse was wild, and the Cow was wild, and the Sheep was wild, and the Pig was wild—as wild as wild could be—and they walked in the Wet Wild Woods by their wild lones. But the wildest of all the wild animals was the Cat. He walked by himself, and all places were alike to him.
That night, Best Beloved, they ate wild sheep roasted on the hot stones, and flavoured with wild garlic and wild pepper; and wild duck stuffed with wild rice and wild fenugreek and wild coriander; and marrow-bones of wild oxen; and wild cherries, and wild grenadillas. Then the Man went to sleep in front of the fire ever so happy; but the Woman sat up, combing her hair. She took the bone of the shoulder of mutton—the big fat blade-bone—and she looked at the wonderful marks on it, and she threw more wood on the fire, and she made a Magic. She made the First Singing Magic in the world.
Out in the Wet Wild Woods all the wild animals gathered together where they could see the light of the fire a long way off, and they wondered what it meant.
Then Wild Horse stamped with his wild foot and said, “O my Friends and O my Enemies, why have the Man and the Woman made that great light in that great Cave, and what harm will it do us?”
Wild Dog lifted up his wild nose and smelled the smell of roast mutton, and said, “I will go up and see and look, and say; for I think it is good. Cat, come with me.”
“Nenni!” said the Cat. “I am the Cat who walks by himself, and all places are alike to me. I will not come.”
“Then we can never be friends again,” said Wild Dog, and he trotted off to the Cave. But when he had gone a little way the Cat said to himself, “All places are alike to me. Why should I not go too and see and look and come away at my own liking.” So he slipped after Wild Dog softly, very softly, and hid himself where he could hear everything.
When Wild Dog reached the mouth of the Cave he lifted up the dried horse-skin with his nose and sniffed the beautiful smell of the roast mutton, and the Woman, looking at the blade-bone, heard him, and laughed, and said, “Here comes the first. Wild Thing out of the Wild Woods, what do you want?”
Wild Dog said, “O my Enemy and Wife of my Enemy, what is this that smells so good in the Wild Woods?”
Then the Woman picked up a roasted mutton-bone and threw it to Wild Dog, and said, “Wild Thing out of the Wild Woods, taste and try.” Wild Dog gnawed the bone, and it was more delicious than anything he had ever tasted, and he said, “O my Enemy and Wife of my Enemy, give me another.”
The Woman said, “Wild Thing out of the Wild Woods, help my Man to hunt through the day and guard this Cave at night, and I will give you as many roast bones as you need.”
“Ah!” said the Cat, listening. “This is a very wise Woman, but she is not so wise as I am.”
Wild Dog crawled into the Cave and laid his head on the Woman’s lap, and said, “O my Friend and Wife of my Friend, I will help Your Man to hunt through the day, and at night I will guard your Cave.”
“Ah!” said the Cat, listening. “That is a very foolish Dog.” And he went back through the Wet Wild Woods waving his wild tail, and walking by his wild lone. But he never told anybody.
When the Man waked up he said, “What is Wild Dog doing here?” And the Woman said, “His name is not Wild Dog any more, but the First Friend, because he will be our friend for always and always and always. Take him with you when you go hunting.”
Next night the Woman cut great green armfuls of fresh grass from the water-meadows, and dried it before the fire, so that it smelt like new-mown hay, and she sat at the mouth of the Cave and plaited a halter out of horse-hide, and she looked at the shoulder of mutton-bone—at the big broad blade-bone—and she made a Magic. She made the Second Singing Magic in the world.
Next night Cat walked through the Wet Wild Woods and hid very near the Cave ’til morning-time, and Man and Dog and Horse went hunting. The Woman was busy cooking that morning, and the Baby cried and interrupted. So she carried him outside the Cave and gave him a handful of pebbles to play with. But still the Baby cried.
Then the Cat put out his paddy paw and patted the Baby on the cheek, and it cooed; and the Cat rubbed against its fat knees and tickled it under its fat chin with his tail. And the Baby laughed; and the Woman heard him and smiled.
Then the Bat—the little upside-down bat—that hung in the mouth of the Cave said, “O my Hostess and Wife of my Host and Mother of my Host’s Son, a Wild Thing from the Wild Woods is most beautifully playing with your Baby.”
“A blessing on that Wild Thing whoever he may be,” said the Woman, straightening her back, “for I was a busy woman this morning and he has done me a service.”
That very minute and second, Best Beloved, the dried horse-skin Curtain that was stretched tail-down at the mouth of the Cave fell down—whoosh!—because it remembered the bargain she had made with the Cat, and when the Woman went to pick it up—lo and behold!—the Cat was sitting quite comfy inside the Cave.
“O my Enemy and Wife of my Enemy and Mother of my Enemy,” said the Cat, “it is I: for you have spoken a word in my praise, and now I can sit within the Cave for always and always and always. But still I am the Cat who walks by himself, and all places are alike to me.”
The Woman was very angry, and shut her lips tight and took up her spinning-wheel and began to spin. But the Baby cried because the Cat had gone away, and the Woman could not hush it, for it struggled and kicked and grew black in the face.
“O my Enemy and Wife of my Enemy and Mother of my Enemy,” said the Cat, “take a strand of the wire that you are spinning and tie it to your spinning-whorl and drag it along the floor, and I will show you a magic that shall make your Baby laugh as loudly as he is now crying.”
“I will do so,” said the Woman, “because I am at my wits’ end; but I will not thank you for it.”
She tied the thread to the little clay spindle whorl and drew it across the floor, and the Cat ran after it and patted it with his paws and rolled head over heels, and tossed it backward over his shoulder and chased it between his hind-legs and pretended to lose it, and pounced down upon it again, ’til the Baby laughed as loudly as it had been crying, and scrambled after the Cat and frolicked all over the Cave ’til it grew tired and settled down to sleep with the Cat in its arms.
“Now,” said the Cat, “I will sing the Baby a song that shall keep him asleep for an hour. And he began to purr, loud and low, low and loud, ’til the Baby fell fast asleep. The Woman smiled as she looked down upon the two of them and said, “That was wonderfully done. No question but you are very clever, O Cat.”
That very minute and second, Best Beloved, the smoke of the fire at the back of the Cave came down in clouds from the roof—puff!—because it remembered the bargain she had made with the Cat, and when it had cleared away—lo and behold!—the Cat was sitting quite comfy close to the fire.
“O my Enemy and Wife of my Enemy and Mother of My Enemy,” said the Cat, “it is I, for you have spoken a second word in my praise, and now I can sit by the warm fire at the back of the Cave for always and always and always. But still I am the Cat who walks by himself, and all places are alike to me.”
Then the Woman was very very angry, and let down her hair and put more wood on the fire and brought out the broad blade-bone of the shoulder of mutton and began to make a Magic that should prevent her from saying a third word in praise of the Cat. It was not a Singing Magic, Best Beloved, it was a Still Magic; and by and by the Cave grew so still that a little wee-wee mouse crept out of a corner and ran across the floor.
“O my Enemy and Wife of my Enemy and Mother of my Enemy,” said the Cat, “is that little mouse part of your magic?”
“Ouh! Chee! No indeed!” said the Woman, and she dropped the blade-bone and jumped upon the footstool in front of the fire and braided up her hair very quick for fear that the mouse should run up it.
“Ah,” said the Cat, watching, “then the mouse will do me no harm if I eat it?”
“No,” said the Woman, braiding up her hair, “eat it quickly and I will ever be grateful to you.”
Cat made one jump and caught the little mouse, and the Woman said, “A hundred thanks. Even the First Friend is not quick enough to catch little mice as you have done. You must be very wise.”
That very moment and second, O Best Beloved, the Milk-pot that stood by the fire cracked in two pieces—ffft—because it remembered the bargain she had made with the Cat, and when the Woman jumped down from the footstool—lo and behold!—the Cat was lapping up the warm white milk that lay in one of the broken pieces.
“O my Enemy and Wife of my Enemy and Mother of my Enemy, said the Cat, “it is I; for you have spoken three words in my praise, and now I can drink the warm white milk three times a day for always and always and always. But still I am the Cat who walks by himself, and all places are alike to me.”
Then the Woman laughed and set the Cat a bowl of the warm white milk and said, “O Cat, you are as clever as a man, but remember that your bargain was not made with the Man or the Dog, and I do not know what they will do when they come home.”
“What is that to me?” said the Cat. “If I have my place in the Cave by the fire and my warm white milk three times a day I do not care what the Man or the Dog can do.”
That evening when the Man and the Dog came into the Cave, the Woman told them all the story of the bargain while the Cat sat by the fire and smiled. Then the Man said, “Yes, but he has not made a bargain with me or with all proper Men after me.” Then he took off his two leather boots and he took up his little stone ax (that makes three) and he fetched a piece of wood and a hatchet (that is five altogether), and he set them out in a row and he said, “Now we will make our bargain. If you do not catch mice when you are in the Cave for always and always and always, I will throw these five things at you whenever I see you, and so shall all proper Men do after me.”
“Ah,” said the Woman, listening, “this is a very clever Cat, but he is not so clever as my Man.”
The Cat counted the five things (and they looked very knobby) and he said, “I will catch mice when I am in the Cave for always and always and always; but still I am the Cat who walks by himself, and all places are alike to me.”
“Not when I am near,” said the Man. “If you had not said that last I would have put all these things away for always and always and always; but I am now going to throw my two boots and my little stone ax (that makes three) at you whenever I meet you. And so shall all proper Men do after me!”
Then the Dog said, “Wait a minute. He has not made a bargain with me or with all proper Dogs after me.” And he showed his teeth and said, “If you are not kind to the Baby while I am in the Cave for always and always and always, I will hunt you ’til I catch you, and when I catch you I will bite you. And so shall all proper Dogs do after me.”
“Ah,” said the Woman, listening, “this is a very clever Cat, but he is not so clever as the Dog.”
Cat counted the Dog’s teeth (and they looked very pointed) and he said, “I will be kind to the Baby while I am in the Cave, as long as he does not pull my tail too hard, for always and always and always. But still I am the Cat that walks by himself, and all places are alike to me.”
“Not when I am near,” said the Dog. “If you had not said that last I would have shut my mouth for always and always and always; but now I am going to hunt you up a tree whenever I meet you. And so shall all proper Dogs do after me.”
Then the Man threw his two boots and his little stone ax (that makes three) at the Cat, and the Cat ran out of the Cave and the Dog chased him up a tree; and from that day to this, Best Beloved, three proper Men out of five will always throw things at a Cat whenever they meet him, and all proper Dogs will chase him up a tree. But the Cat keeps his side of the bargain too. He will kill mice and he will be kind to Babies when he is in the house, just as long as they do not pull his tail too hard. But when he has done that, and between times, and when the moon gets up and night comes, he is the Cat that walks by himself, and all places are alike to him. Then he goes out to the Wet Wild Woods or up the Wet Wild Trees or on the Wet Wild Roofs, waving his wild tail and walking by his wild lone.
Out in the Wild Woods all the wild animals wondered what had happened to Wild Dog, and at last Wild Horse stamped with his foot and said, “I will go and see and say why Wild Dog has not returned. Cat, come with me.”
“Nenni!” said the Cat. “I am the Cat who walks by himself, and all places are alike to me. I will not come.” But all the same he followed Wild Horse softly, very softly, and hid himself where he could hear everything.
When the Woman heard Wild Horse tripping and stumbling on his long mane, she laughed and said, “Here comes the second. Wild Thing out of the Wild Woods what do you want?”
Wild Horse said, “O my Enemy and Wife of my Enemy, where is Wild Dog?”
The Woman laughed, and picked up the blade-bone and looked at it, and said, “Wild Thing out of the Wild Woods, you did not come here for Wild Dog, but for the sake of this good grass.”
And Wild Horse, tripping and stumbling on his long mane, said, “That is true; give it me to eat.”
The Woman said, “Wild Thing out of the Wild Woods, bend your wild head and wear what I give you, and you shall eat the wonderful grass three times a day.”
“Ah,” said the Cat, listening, “this is a clever Woman, but she is not so clever as I am.” Wild Horse bent his wild head, and the Woman slipped the plaited hide halter over it, and Wild Horse breathed on the Woman’s feet and said, “O my Mistress, and Wife of my Master, I will be your servant for the sake of the wonderful grass.”
“Ah,” said the Cat, listening, “that is a very foolish Horse.” And he went back through the Wet Wild Woods, waving his wild tail and walking by his wild lone. But he never told anybody.
When the Man and the Dog came back from hunting, the Man said, “What is Wild Horse doing here?” And the Woman said, “His name is not Wild Horse any more, but the First Servant, because he will carry us from place to place for always and always and always. Ride on his back when you go hunting.”
Next day, holding her wild head high that her wild horns should not catch in the wild trees, Wild Cow came up to the Cave, and the Cat followed, and hid himself just the same as before; and everything happened just the same as before; and the Cat said the same things as before, and when Wild Cow had promised to give her milk to the Woman every day in exchange for the wonderful grass, the Cat went back through the Wet Wild Woods waving his wild tail and walking by his wild lone, just the same as before. But he never told anybody. And when the Man and the Horse and the Dog came home from hunting and asked the same questions same as before, the Woman said, “Her name is not Wild Cow any more, but the Giver of Good Food. She will give us the warm white milk for always and always and always, and I will take care of her while you and the First Friend and the First Servant go hunting.”
Next day the Cat waited to see if any other Wild thing would go up to the Cave, but no one moved in the Wet Wild Woods, so the Cat walked there by himself; and he saw the Woman milking the Cow, and he saw the light of the fire in the Cave, and he smelt the smell of the warm white milk.
Cat said, “O my Enemy and Wife of my Enemy, where did Wild Cow go?”
The Woman laughed and said, “Wild Thing out of the Wild Woods, go back to the Woods again, for I have braided up my hair, and I have put away the magic blade-bone, and we have no more need of either friends or servants in our Cave.”
Cat said, “I am not a friend, and I am not a servant. I am the Cat who walks by himself, and I wish to come into your cave.”
Woman said, “Then why did you not come with First Friend on the first night?”
Cat grew very angry and said, “Has Wild Dog told tales of me?”
Then the Woman laughed and said, “You are the Cat who walks by himself, and all places are alike to you. Your are neither a friend nor a servant. You have said it yourself. Go away and walk by yourself in all places alike.”
Then Cat pretended to be sorry and said, “Must I never come into the Cave? Must I never sit by the warm fire? Must I never drink the warm white milk? You are very wise and very beautiful. You should not be cruel even to a Cat.”
Woman said, “I knew I was wise, but I did not know I was beautiful. So I will make a bargain with you. If ever I say one word in your praise you may come into the Cave.”
“And if you say two words in my praise?” said the Cat.
“I never shall,” said the Woman, “but if I say two words in your praise, you may sit by the fire in the Cave.”
“And if you say three words?” said the Cat.
“I never shall,” said the Woman, “but if I say three words in your praise, you may drink the warm white milk three times a day for always and always and always.”
Then the Cat arched his back and said, “Now let the Curtain at the mouth of the Cave, and the Fire at the back of the Cave, and the Milk-pots that stand beside the Fire, remember what my Enemy and the Wife of my Enemy has said.” And he went away through the Wet Wild Woods waving his wild tail and walking by his wild lone.
That night when the Man and the Horse and the Dog came home from hunting, the Woman did not tell them of the bargain that she had made with the Cat, because she was afraid that they might not like it.
Cat went far and far away and hid himself in the Wet Wild Woods by his wild lone for a long time ’til the Woman forgot all about him. Only the Bat—the little upside-down Bat—that hung inside the Cave, knew where Cat hid; and every evening Bat would fly to Cat with news of what was happening.
One evening Bat said, “There is a Baby in the Cave. He is new and pink and fat and small, and the Woman is very fond of him.”
“Ah,” said the Cat, listening, “but what is the Baby fond of?”
“He is fond of things that are soft and tickle,” said the Bat. “He is fond of warm things to hold in his arms when he goes to sleep. He is fond of being played with. He is fond of all those things.”
“Ah,” said the Cat, listening, “then my time has come.”
Trollfics Rewritten Book 1: Dreams (Chp.3)
Slowly, the darkness retreated, leaving Robinheart with the sight of Firestar pressed up quite claustrophobically against her dream-self.
She then realized that that Firestar was sound asleep, his soft flame-coloured flank rising, up and down rhythmically, giving off relaxing vibes. Robinheart felt like she could fall asleep right next to the flamed-coloured hero of the clans. But, then again, she was dreaming.
Robinheart's light green eyes shifted around, scanning the Leader's den. It still looked like it was quite early, which was surprising. She had at least expected it to be night, and that the cold, crisp air of New-Leaf would soar through the air, sending cold, but pleasant chills down her spine.
Robinheart then felt slight movements coming from the other side of the large, clingy nest. Her dream-self shifted slowly and quietly, so that she dream-self could face Firestar, and try not potentially disturb him.
She still had to process that her hero was in her dream, sleeping peacefully beside her. Robinheart's dream-self smiled slightly, revealing one of her top canine teeth, and some of her smaller, sharper incisors.
''He's almost like a giant fluffy kit, sleeping soundly next to his littermates,'' Robinheart thought. ''except that he's a respected, deceased leader who I admire. Besides that, he's a fluffy kitten.''
Suddenly, Robinheart's dream-self scooted slightly closer towards the sleeping leader, eventually nuzzling into his snow-white underbelly. Her dream-self purred in delight, slightly moving about to find a more comfortable position.
She ended up with her dream-self's cranium rested between Firestar's front legs, her back lying against his underbelly, and her tail entwined with his. Robinheart's dream-self then felt the gentle, but rough tongue of the ginger leader lick her head slowly, causing Robinheart's dream-self to purr in pleasure.
''Good morning,'' her dream-self meowed softly, slightly turning its head to try and glance a glimpse of the attractive ginger-furred feline.
''Good morning,'' he mumbled, soon after letting out a large yawn, before nuzzling his head into hers.
''If this wasn't between the cat I look up to, and my oddly coloured and oddly named dream-self, I would call this cute,'' Robinheart mumbled. ''Then again, it is.''
''How'd you sleep?'' Firestar asked, moving into a resting position so that he could see Robinheart's oddly coloured dream-self.
''Wonderful,'' her dream-self meowed gracefully, still lying down, but now looking up at its supposed mate. ''Once I'd closed my eyes, I instantly fell asleep,''
''That's nice,'' he responded, following with another loud yawn.
''Would you like me to get some prey?'' Firestar asked, staring to somewhat lift himself out of the nest. Robinheart could clearly see bits of dry, aged moss clinging onto his pelt. She could feel the skin underneath her dream-self's sky blue fur grow hot, almost like if it was actually attracted to the ginger-furred tom.
''Wait,'' Robinheart's dream-self said as Firestar was almost out of the Leader's den. ''you got a bit of moss on your pelt.''
He glanced awkwardly down at his pelt, staring at the little clumps of moss clinging onto it. ''Oh, I see,'' he mumbled. ''Care to take them off for me?''
''I was going to, anyways,'' Robinheart's dream-self smirked as it made its way over towards Firestar. Once it had reached his, it slightly bent down to reach the bits of moss that clung onto his pelt. It carefully opened its maw, and slowly clamed it's jaw around the moss, before pulling it off, and dropping it onto the soft dirt floor.
Once it had lifted its head up, it purred as it met the ginger leader's green gaze. Robinheart's dream-self then nuzzled into Firestar's pelt, causing him to look down at her in surprise.
''Aren't you supposed to take off the moss?'' he asked, smiling slightly.
''I will, but for now, I'd rather nuzzle into you,'' it mumbled, burying it's face into his fur. It purred, listening to the leader's heartbeat. For a while, it seemed like Robinheart's dream-self had fallen asleep right there and then.
''Uh, dream-self, are you awake?'' Robinheart thought.
For what seemed like moons, Robinheart's dream-self finally lifted its head up from the depths of Firestar's soft flame-coloured pelt. It then nuzzled against Firestar, twining its tail around his. Robinheart's dream-self then started to lick Firestar's nape, before—
''What in Starclan's name do you think you're doing?!''
The two cats swiftly turned around to face a pale ginger she-cat. Slightly darker ginger stripes crisscrossed across her pelt, making it look like dark streams of orange-tinted water was flowing through river banks adorned with pale ginger grass. A look of envy, rage, sorrow, and hatred masked her pale green eyes, while her muzzle was opened wide to reveal snow-white fangs.
The cat in front of them was none other than Sandstorm, Firestar's original mate.
It also then occurred to Robinheart that she was an apprentice.
Immediately, her dream-self shrunk back, compressing itself against the hard, slate wall. It stared in terror and horror at the other cat, fearing the worst.
Firestar's pelt then started to puff up slightly, giving him a much larger appearance. Instead, it gave him the appearance of a sheep who decided it would be fun to roll about in a field of tulips, resulting in its fur to be dyed orange.
It was quite a common tactic amongst Thunderclan cats these days, although she had heard that back before she was born, both Riverclan and Thunderclan cats smoothed down their fur, making them seem weaker than they really were.
''I love her, not you!'' Firestar hissed. His muzzle was now bared to show his own fangs, and his fur was now fluffier than ever, making him look like an unsheered sheep.
''Firestar, get a hold of yourself!'' Sandstorm hissed back ''You're saying that you love an apprentice more than me! An Apprentice! Do you really think that I'm less worthy to be your mate compared to that oddly coloured freak of a cat!? Is it because you think she's attractive?!''
''Well, she is,'' Firestar pouted, now sitting down on the dirt floor. He then slightly turned his head to glance at Robinheart's dream-self, letting his gaze linger on her for a few seconds, before abruptly turning his back towards Sandstorm.
During this time, Robinheart could only stare in disbelief. She couldn't talk. She couldn't make remarks. She didn't even want to take control of her dream at this moment. She only wanted to watch.
''Firestar,'' Sandstorm meowed, now taking the shrill tone of her voice off ''We've been together through it all. War, famine, life, death, apprenticeship and warriorhood. And after all, of those times, you've favored this cat over me?''
A silence came over the ginger tom. For a moment, Robinheart started to believe that Firestar had frozen in sorrow, and started to regret what he had said before.
Then, he opened his mouth, and spoke only three words.
''Yes, I do,''
Sandstorm gasped in shock. She started to shake slightly, before collapsing onto the ground. Sandstorm stayed quiet before speaking again, sending unpleasant chills down Robinheart's dream-self's spine.
''Y-you hate me, d-don't you?''
Firestar's response then sent even more chills down her spine.
''Of, course I do,'' Firestar spat. ''Since we were apprentices, I've hated you! Through warriorhood, I've hated you! I only became your mate so that you could be happy for once, you naïve, stupid, arrogant she-cat! I've never loved you, or our kits, or our grand kits!You and them deserve to live in the Darkforest after you die!''
What Sandstorm did next surprised Robinheart.
She started to shake even more, making Robinheart wonder if an landquake had embedded itself inside of her. Robinheart could slightly make out a clear, thick liquid fill up Sandstorm's eyes, before spilling out at an impressive rate, staining her fur with it, leaving dark trails behind.
Sandstorm opened her mouth slightly, and admitted a low moan, before it quickly became a shrill wail, caked with unhappiness and grief. The thick, clear liquid was now dripping off, of her face, splattering down onto the dusty, dirty ground.
''Serves you right,'' Firestar mumbled, before turning away, letting his tail smack Sandstorm in the face. Sandstorm bawled, the clear liquid now coming out at an impressive rate.
Firestar proudly strutted away from his depressed once-mate, and made his way over towards Robinheart's dream-self. He neatly crouched down beside it, resting his head on her nape.
''F-Firestat, I-I-,'' Robinheart's dream-self said before getting cut off by the flame-coloured leader.
''Shh,'' he mumbled, resting his tail on its back, before nuzzling into it. Soon after, soothing purrs admitted from Firestar.
Curious, Robinheart's dream-self turned its head so that it could look at the sandy-coloured she-cat. Sandstorm was now laying down with her head between her front paws, sobbing quietly, occasionally sniffing, then resuming back to sobbing.
Robinheart's dream-self stared at Sandstorm for a while, before turning its attention away from the sobbing feline. Darkness then started to fog up Robinheart's vision, slowly drenching it before fully soaking it with darkness.
Before Robinheart passed out, she could only think one thing.
''I'm so sorry, Sandstorm,''
Jump: Chapter One
Speedy.
I always wanted to be called Speedy. There was a famous comic book series of a superhero when I was young. It featured Señor Speedy Steve. He would save the day in every comic by running in at the speed of light, fighting bad guys, saving the damsel in distress. But no one ever thought that the name fit me. Actually, no one would ever even listen to me.
You see, ever since I was much younger, I’ve struggled with stuttering. No one really listens to me, and sometimes, stuttering frustrates me to no end. I don’t stutter all the time, but more than I would ever care to. Usually when I’m stressed or at an emotional high, that’s when I stutter. So, as a result, no one ever called me Speedy.
It was high school, and I was a freshman. The day was particularly hard for me because some students were teasing me about my stuttering. It’s not like I could help it if I wanted to. It didn’t help that I had recently moved to the city over the summer and knew nobody. I think that it was during the first week, and I remember that it was a Friday. The day before, I had spoken during class for the first time, inevitably revealing my embarrassing self-problem.
“Hey, B-b-bryan the st-stutter,” was only one of the insults hurled at me. Usually the teachers tried to stop the other students from teasing me, but when the teachers weren’t around, some of the insults cut pretty deep. Not only were students making fun of me, but teachers called on me a lot that day, only increasing my embarrassment, denying me the right to keep my insecurities to myself.
When I got home, my dad wasn’t off of work yet. He and my mom had recently divorced, causing the move to the city. But my cat was there, waiting at the door when I unlocked and opened it.
“Hey, Fancy.” For some reason, when I talk to Fancy, I don’t stutter. I guess that she’s kind of a security cat for me.
The new house was tiny, smaller than I had previously imagined it to be. There was only one bathroom, and my bedroom was about half the size that it had been at my mom’s place. I thought that the location was dumb, because it was right next to a supermarket. Who wants to live next to a supermarket? My dad said that later, I would probably be happy about it, but I think he was trying to convince himself that living next to a supermarket was good.
I plopped down on the couch, boxes everywhere, labeled neatly. We were still unpacking boxes, although my bedroom was just about unpacked. Fancy came, jumped up on the couch, and settled in my lap.
“Fancy, today was awful,” I confessed, while petting her, hearing her purr in compliance. “I’ve been going to this school for only a week, and feel like I have no friends! Worse yet, kids have been teasing me about my st-st-stupid st-st-st-stuttering!” I sighed at myself in frustration, petting Fancy as she purred along at me.
In frustration from my bad day, I went and took a shower to calm down a bit. Usually, I would have showered right before bed or even in the morning, but feeling the cool water helped me to calm down and recollect myself. Then, I went out into the living room to start working on my homework. High school was very different from middle school when it came to expectations and work-load. I mean, yeah, I had homework in middle school too, but not nearly as much. At least, the homework didn’t seem as pointless in middle school as it was starting to seem in high school. Teaching myself from the book, figuring out new concepts on my own; wasn’t that the job of the teachers? I had a reading assignment due on Monday, so I worked on reading that. It was an assignment to begin reading part of Homer’s Odyssey. I had already started reading it in some down time during school, and it wasn’t too bad.
I fell asleep on the couch while reading, and was jolted awake when the home phone began ringing. It was already 7:00! Stumbling out of my sleeping stupor, I trudged over to the house phone. The caller ID was unavailable. Normally, I wouldn’t bother picking up the phone when there was no caller ID, but my dad was late getting home, so I thought it might be him.
“H-h-hello?” I asked.
“Bryan? Is that really you?” It sounded like my dad, but his voice was hoarse and tired.
“Y-yeah, who else w-w-would it be? A-are you okay? When are you g-g-getting home? I’m hungry.”
“I’m fine; I ran into an old friend at the park.” He didn’t sound fine. He sounded rushed, like he was in danger.
“A-a-are you sh-sh-sure? You d-don’t—” He unusually cut me off.
“Yes, please listen closely, son. My friend says that he would like to see you. Could you please come to the park, the one closest to my job? You know which one?”
“The one th-that we w-w-went to when we f-first got here?”
“Yes, please hurry.” And he hung up.
