You know what since we’re still in quarantine and i have nothing else better to do, i need to obsess over ACOTAR. I don't like a court of frost and starlight. For the longest time I couldn't figure out why I didn't like it. I aggressively read the book in maybe a day and I closed it feeling frustrated and annoyed. My version had A Court of Silver Flames preview so that definitely contributed to my annoyance greatly.
It's because it felt too perfect. Everything that had happened -- after the entire war was fought and won, they just go back to their normal lives? Yes there were hiccups and yes there were still aspects that made every IC character feel like their problems aren’t solved yet...but it didnt feel right. yes i enjoyed the snowball fight between the bat boys, feyre + rhys sexy time, and those little comfort moments too, the slice of life type things and seeing feyre accomplishing her goals and how hopeful the future seems BUT its too fast. the good parts of the book did not offset the bad parts of it.
Feyre literally accomplished pretty much every single goal she made back in ACOMAF just like that?? within a span of what a few months? a year?? She really came back from an entire war -- probably the first war of many since she's immortal and just like that, after her 21st birthday: she gets a whole entire estate, wants to start poppin babies, opens her art studio and starts teaching kids and then acting like she can rule an entire court?? the timeline is sooo short esp since its been brought up over and over again how everyone is literally 500 years old and have a super “messy” history and their changes seems to come super dupe slowly. but feyre, who has only lived 0.000000002% of her fae life, is out here thriving just fine???
the war devastated thousands of illyrian soldiers where its changing the politics of the illyrains and the faes, all of whom feyre has responsibilities over too as high lady. the mortal queens are still at large who left the humans on prythian to die which is why feyre was willing to go to war in the first place! what about the rest of hybern and their land and residents?? they wanted to enslave humans for social and economical reasons! then what about integrating humans w deep hatred and fear with deeply prejudice fae??? there’s also spring and summer court who are literally in ruins. thats literally so much. so idk how feyre is just chillin???? she gonna let rhys do all the hard work???
like feyre sit down. u should not be having a baby. esp since it took u literally a 700 pages to heal from those 3 months UTM. ur telling me shes gonna whole heartedly bring in a newborn in a war devastated world, with civil unrest (illyrains, other courts), with the messiness of human and fae integration, with trauma u and rhys will have to continue to overcome esp after THIS war??? even helping ur sisters w their traumas??
Tumblr media
this is a personal opinion on this subject (and maybe my thoughts will change on this later on; opened to other thoughts) but when i read the part about how that weaver/seamstress artist who made that dark quilt that feyre loved talked about how her mate of 300 years didn’t come back from the war and her biggest regret was that she didnt have a kid to remember him by i just thought ur kid isn’t some sort of memorabilia. don’t have a kid to keep the memory of ur mate alive; have a kid cuz u want a kid purely for the sake of having a kid. ur memories and photos and shit will keep their memory alive but its not having a kid. some primitive need to keep the genes alive maybe?? but the way it was phrased and then in turn how feyre was like oh i need  a baby pronto cuz rhys might die in the next war and regret not having a kid with him didn’t sit right with me. also the other couple were together for +300 years and have a rich life together, while shes been with rhys for literally two years THATS NOTHING IN FAE YEARS. thats still the honeymoon phase and also ur problems arent even close to being over!!!
everyone was shitty to nesta. in ACOMAF, we saw how much the IC went through and still did all they could to help feyre. what made them not think nesta deserve the same welcome? nesta is mean as a defense but did no one try to figure out what would help (amren got close but shes so under developed)??? feyre knows nesta feels too much and yet she continued to be shitty. continued to flaunt her wealth, her status, her familiarity/borderline know-it-all attitude about fae/night court, her ~estate~. forcing nest to the solstice party when nesta was literally like i dont belong, im looking at everyone through a window type of thing; the fire cracking triggering her, etc. what kind of power play was that when she made nesta come to her estate, where nesta could SEE how ~homey~ and how suscessful feyre is and fully see all the lovely paintings of everyone feyre loves that explicitly exclude her to tell her to fuck off to a war camp?? bro???? cas was a dick too and elaine was rude. i think a lot of his actions were meant to make her angry since anger keeps u fighting (as was the method of rhys for feyre in ACOMAF) but what he said was stupidly shitty and i demand that he apologize properly. elaine could have done more to help her sister but whatever. mor was definitely an ass too (and im upset for how little her character growth is).
Tumblr media
Lucein. that man can’t catch a break tbh. im happy that hes w the band of exiles cuz he is whole heartedly accepted there. feyre was definitely an asshole to him even tho he helped as much as he could throughout the books. he tries so hard w elaine as well and it did hit my heart a bit when she was like gloves to work in my garden?? no ?? i use my bare hands see oNly aZiReL sEeS mE fOr WhO i Am. and at the same feyre is like flaunting her mate status to lucein which is mean as shit. its like this man can’t find love in prythain. then tamlin sending him his box of his things??? thats for sure brutral. tam was literally his partner through it all; savior of sorts even. no love from IC, no love from elaine, no love from feyre, no love from tamlin, no love from autumn court rejected everywhere! also HIS TRUE FATHER?? HEllo???
then on tamlin. i pity the guy! was i suppose to feel that way??? it felt like he is allowed to get a redemption arc and maybe i’ll even root for a redemption arc??? i was absolutely excited for freysand in ACOMAF but after ACOFAS, im like tamlin is....not completely bad??? his relationship w feyre was bad and the controlling parts were very much a no-no. i dont truly understand the dynamics of an abusive relationship but i can understand that it can be insidious and its the little things that hurt the victim. and i felt  feyre through ACOMAF and rooted for her to escape her abuser! but then it felt like i dont think he was doing any of those things out of malice. ill say tamlin is a bad leader and doesn’t know how to run a court outside of what he sees his father do. his understanding on everything is based on the traditions of the past which i think fueled most of the things he did i.e. not telling feyre she was in danger since maybe his mom didn’t do those war planning things. ACOTAR showed how he truly cared/loved and took good care of feyre and her family. he even talked about how he didn’t believe in the enslavement of humans! i think that tam wanted to preserve what he thought was the good (aka feyre + her love of painting) and get back a sense of control that he and his entire court lost while chained to amarantha. but at the same time, i think he truly thought feyre wasn’t safe. he knows rhys can crush minds and knows feyre can’t read/write so when he got that letter telling him shes safe of course hes gonna flip shit and made a deal w the devil (although those temper outbursts were DEFINITIVELY not ok!!!). he also didn’t listen and has sense of he knows best when feyre was not the type of person. but feyre destroyed his entire court. he lost all his sentries who literally went out to die for him during amarantha’s reign. he lost lucien too; his trusted right hand man. his people were cursed for 50 years and then continued to suffer UTM and was in the process of rebuilding too!  but just seeing spring court, WHO BORDERS THE HUMANS, be in ruins where his subjects left him, his people left him and hes all alone in the manson?? that was sooo sad. so im like why does what feyre did not feel satisfactory????? im mad that it didn’t feel right??? maybe there wasn’t a point where feyre talked to tamlin -- like really talked to him esp w her new found voice and power, etc. anyways, i dont hate tamlin and was like oh shit i think feyre fucked up a bit there.
rhys is a dick to nesta. which made me think, if feyre wasn’t his mate would he extend the same love and care to her???  i loved how he tried so hard to make sure feyre was ok. made sure she wasn’t breaking! all of it! but for nesta, he had the audacity to use his high lord voice and be an ass overall. even tho he can see how cas is fucken in love??? even just how he talks to cass feels off too.
i’ll even go as far as to say because of how terrible ACOFAS was, it created this intense divide within the fandom. i remember reading the first three books and was absolutely 1) rooting for freysand  2) curious about the sister relationship and how it will be mended 3) i definitely didn’t hate nesta nor did i hate elaine either -- but i was adament about them talking it out with feyre for those tough times 4) saw a more realistic and charming healing arc 5) was rooting for feyre to be a stronger voice and grow into herself 6) love the dynamic of the inner circle + feyre
but after ACOFAS, I have this intense need to defend nesta and was super mad at how she was treated after the war and in turn a deep dislike for elaine for both her lack of agency, lack of grit that made all the other characters interesting, and lack of care for her sisters (who showed how much they would risk for her). i dont hate rhys but i was extremely not happy with him and his attitude and behavior. feyre became more arrogant and was acting like how asshole rhysand would act. like her life is perfect now and i was not rooting for her anymore. freysand didn’t feel like they have complimenting qualities that made them interesting in the first place but rather they are merging to become the same person but in a bad way. that mind reading thing was cute in the beginning but it became insufferable since all thoughts were shared so seamlessly it made reading feel weird.
anyways those are my thoughts on ACOFAS. it was a 1/5 stars for me and im mad those events transpired. reading the other books made me excited to know what was gonna happen and i was truly ready to accept the characters as flawed and nuanced as they are. im not mad about character not liking each other but i am mad that everything felt off. ACOFAS just felt regressive in some parts and forced in other parts. i know not everything ends in a nice tied up bow but this book single handily ruined what i thought about these characters in the worse way possible. this book wasn’t suppose to wrap up all the problems that exists in the other books but it didn’t feel hopeful like i thought it would. it didn’t feel wrapped up and didn’t feel like i should be excited about the next books. theres so many missing pieces i feel that i think need explaining and at the same time, i think it introduced too many problems at once which made it feel like its jumping around everywhere. although im still excited for ACOSF because i love nesta, and nesta deserves so much better and i want to have hope that this bad ending will either make sense later on or it was just a blimp.

Ghost Of a Chance. Chapter 1
A Ghost of a Chance!: The Ghost Queen's Slaughter!
                                                          ~Amity Park- Three years ago~
The town of Amity Park, a town tied to the paranormal. Ghosts from other dimensions have invaded the living plane of existence time and time again. Most are just relatively normal people. While others are, for lack of a better term Supervillains. Because of the influx of evil ghosts, one young hero fought to keep the peace.
Danny Fenton was just fourteen when his parents built a very strange machine. The Ghost Portal, It was designed to view a world unseen. During its test run, it failed to activate and it was left to collect dust in its parent's lab.
One day on a dare from his friends made him put on a Jumpsuit and go inside it. "I still think this is a REALLY bad idea, Sam! Have you ever even seen The Fly?" Danny tells her before he accidentally presses the On button, activating the portal with him inside with the help of this horrifyingly dangerous design flaw. With a bright green glow, Danny's screams in agony. His friend Tucker holds Sam back when she tries to run in and get Danny out. "NO STOP IT'S TOO DANGEROUS!!" Tucker screams at her.
"LET ME GO TUCKER If We Don't DO ANYTHING DANNY IS GOING TO DIE!!" Sam screams as she kicks Tucker in the stomach. He drops to the floor with the wind knocked out of him. A changed Danny stumbles out, staggered by the experience. His black hair is now snow white and his blue eyes now glowing green. The white/Black jumpsuit had its colors inverted.
After that Life changing day, Danny gained the abilities of a ghost. While learning his new abilities became a hero. At one point even saved the earth with every ghost he ever fought.
~Three years Later~
After fighting ghosts for three whole years, Amity Park has had ghosts become an everyday part of life. With Danny becoming a literal symbol of Ghost and Humans working well together, Ghost has been given rights as citizens. Some of Danny's old enemies gave up antagonizing humans and got real jobs.
Sidney Poindexter got his GED and became an Anti-bully activist. He actively reduced bullying in schools by telling kids how he took his own life because of it.
The Hothead Ember Mclain made it big as a legitimate performer with a record deal. She may even be going platinum soon.
Hell, even The Box Ghost got a job with FedEx.
One day, Danny was out buying new college prep books when he spotted another one of his old enemies in the coffee shop, looking depressed. Desiree the wishing ghost is waiting for her coffee, dressed in a suit.  She appears worried about something, checking her watch.
"Oh boy this can't be good."  He mumbled to himself, trying not to draw her attention. He starts to feel sorry when she pays for her coffee. A heartbroken Desiree just stares blankly at her phone. Soon she spots him in the distance and politely waves while grinding her teeth. "Fantastic, My date stands me up and now I have to deal with the Phantom boy!"
"Oh man, I'm so going to regret this later." He awkwardly waves back at her before gesturing to her he is leaving. Danny walks away with a sigh of relief. "Talk about awkward running into a former enemy!" Without paying attention he bumps into Desiree. "Ahem!"
Danny would have jumped in shock if his Ghost Sense didn't already let him know she was right in front of him. Desiree looks down at him with her arms crossed. "What do you want, Phantom?" An enraged scowl on her face before she notices the books in his hand. "Oh, you didn't come for me!" She calms down a bit and even laughs. "Forgive me, I've not been in the best of moods."
Danny laughs, nearly dropping his books. "I was just as surprised to see you, Desiree! I almost went ghost like the old days out of habit." The former adversaries laugh at the whole situation. "So how are you, Desiree? By the get up I'm assuming you've gone legit like a lot of other ghosts."
"Yes I passed the bar exam and I'm now a lawyer." She clarifies with pride written on her face. "I happened to order two coffees and my date decided not to show up, care to join me?"
Both of them return to the coffee shop and have a friendly conversation, like the hostilities of their past is now gone."Your date sounds like a real dumbass to stand you up. So you chose to be a lawyer? I have to admit I never saw that one coming. The Box Ghost working at FedEx I saw a mile away, but this takes me by surprise." The ghost boy admits to her.
"In the last three years, I've tried many different jobs but being a Lawyer had the most appeal, so I committed to law school. Getting a GED was the First real challenge because the last time I had a formal education was two-thousand years ago. " She points at Danny's books while taking a sip. "So how about you Phantom? You look like you are getting serious in your studies in these peaceful times."
"I want to be an astronaut one day and with the lack of Ghost fighting, I've had more time to study for it. Good riddance too, I never really liked all the non-stop fighting anyway. Like the first time we fought, You kicked my butt big time before I made a wish."
"I hope one day my wishes can come true," Desiree mumbled to herself with some regret. "The one thing I can never have."
"Your own Kingdom if I remember that gypsy's story right." Danny muses out loud. Desiree shakes her head with a sad look on her face.
"That was just a superficial legend, not the real story. What I really wish for is something I never had."
~Fenton labs~
Four years after Danny got his powers from the ghost portal, the constant battles always took their toll on him every time but he always bounced back. From the Box ghost to the former ghost King, he always came back stronger. However, he might have his hands full this time. His many enemies began the unthinkable. They somehow found a way to make his ability to feel the incoming presence of another ghost useless. Under the command of the new Ghost Queen, they went after his friends and family one by one.
Wave after wave of the Ghost Queen's minions worn the now eighteen-year-old ghost boy down. Soon he was overpowered by her most fearsome henchmen, Beaten to the point he could not fight back.
He is on his knees in a Burning laboratory as his two most powerful foes looming above him. The Fright Knight, the spirit of Halloween and an evil older copy of himself from another timeline called  Dark Danny. "Games over kid it's been over before it even began!" His evil parallel self-boast. Dark Danny lifts Danny by the neck, strangling his younger self while charging up a blast in his other hand. Danny is too beaten and bloody to fight back. "Time to DIE!!"
Danny almost gets blasted through the stomach before the Fright Knight cuts Dark Danny's arm off. "Her Highness the Queen ordered us to bring him to her alive!!" The Knight snarls at his partner. An enraged Dark Danny throws a swing before the Fright Knight has a blast aimed at his head. "And I've been given the freedom to eliminate you if I see fit!"
Dark Danny stops baring his teeth at the knight and regains his cool. "You know, I liked it better when you served me in my timeline." He drops Danny and reattaches his arm.
A terrified Danny tries to crawl away but is too gravely injured to get far. "D-Danny?" His sister Jazz is buried under rubble, in tears and reaching out to him as she bleeds out. Dark Danny picks Jazz up off the ground by the hair. A sadistic smirk on his face as he looks down at Danny. "Hello sis, miss me?" Jazz spits blood in his face as a last act of defiance. "Go To Hell!"
"You're already here Jazz, and you are about to meet the devil herself?" He puts her in an ectoplasmic bubble along with Danny. "Lucky for you, she did say to bring at least one living family member."
He waves his hand to make a Ghost Portal.
~Ghost Zone~
The two villains enter it, on the other side is a massive palace in the Ghost Zone. Various ghosts and humans on their knees in the throne room. A ghostly servant blows a horn, "Presenting The new Ghost Queen! Her Highness Queen..." A tall busty woman with an hourglass figure walks down a dark corridor, her red eyes shine in the darkness before she enters the light. Her skin is brown with glowing veins marks all over her arms, veins that change between red blue yellow and green. "...Desiree!"
The (Former) Wishing Ghost sets on her new throne, giving Danny a lustful leer. "Bring him closer and release him." She orders her henchmen, her eyes never leaving the ghost boy. Dark Danny makes his Ecto-Bubble vanish, he kicks his younger counterpart towards the foot of Desiree's throne. The barely conscious Danny can't keep his eyes open as The Ghost Queen gingerly caresses his face. "And I had this grand speech planned and you deliver him to me almost dead!?"
Dark Danny laughs smugly with fangs before a look of rage takes over him. He is looking at his hand as he is being removed from existence in green fire. "We had a deal! I give you what you want, you give me what I want!", He screams.
Desiree picks Danny up bridal style, her expression is cold as she glares at Dark Danny. "Your results are unsatisfactory, enjoy existing no more." Dark Danny disappears, vanishing within the flames.
~Hours later~
Danny wakes up in a large bed with all his injuries healed. "Where am I?!" He gets out of the bed only to fall on his face, his legs feel like jelly. "Oh great, I'm in enemy territory and I can't walk or go ghost!" Arms wrap around him as a pair of soft lips kissed him on the cheek. He spots the Ring of Rage on her finger. He sees Desiree's new look like she is almost human again. The flaming crown of her head gives him a clue, much to his horror.
"The numbness will subside in time, but you need to rest," Desiree whispers into his ear, her embrace getting tighter when Danny struggles to get loose. "Desiree, is this really you? What did you do to yourself!?"
She puts him back in the bed. Danny then remembers Jazz was with him. "Jazz, what did you do to her?!", He shouts at her.
"Healed up and resting in another room. As for what I did to myself..." She puts her right hand up to Danny so he can see the glowing Ring. "...I transcended beyond a ghost or my original humanity, with the power of the former ghost king's ring and crown."
Danny looks at her with abstract terror. "You took those from him?! Do you have any idea what those can do?! If your not careful you can destroy the whole ghost zone and the earth along with it!"
"Worth the risk, I am making an empire, one where ghosts and Humans can be equals. I'm just about finished all I need now is..." Queen Desiree forces him down onto the bed, She Kisses Danny while holding him down. She moans loudly, forcing her tongue down his thought.      "...a king to rule beside me!~"
All Danny can say is a flat, "W-What the fuck!? Those things are making you crazy!" His eyes were wide with shock and confusion. "What does this have to do with me anyway?!"
Desiree while still on top smiles warmly, laying next to him.  "It's Very simple Danny.~" Her voice is sweet, yet has an undertone of insanity. "You and I marry then rule a glorious empire as Husband and Wife."
"I'm a little young for you, don't you think? I only just turned eighteen." He asks Desiree with a sliver of fear.
"TIME OUT!!"
Time is frozen in place and when it starts Danny is gone. "Oh, no Worries Your of age now. Wait..." The Ghost Queen looks around the room before flinging into a rage. She fires a blast that destroys a wall. "Clockwork!"
Queen Desiree flies out so fast she makes a sonic boom.
~Clockwork's Realm~
Clockwork the master of time opens up a portal in time. A weakened and injured Danny has a Time medallion on him. "If you wish to Save all of the creation, go now!" The normally calm Master of time screams in panic.
Danny limps into the Time portal and in a flash of light is gone. "DANNY!!!" The Ghost Queen screams blows open the wall. *BOOM!* She conjures skeletal arms to bind Clockwork and depower him. "Clockwork Your queen has questions regarding her consort! Return him to me and I'll show you mercy and even forgive your crimes!"
"Danny is already gone and you can't get to him. You may be seemingly omnipotent with the power of the Ghost King but even You have no power over time!" Desiree blasts him into oblivion, leaving no trace of Clockwork. With a snap of her finger, The Fright Knight is Summoned.
"Follow Danny and bring him to me no matter the cost!"
"At once your majesty!" Her knight with his orders enters the portal.
Queen Desiree descends into maniacal laughter. "I will have you, Danny! Even if I have to rip apart time and space! So I wish it so shall it be!!"

Oooooooooooh, you have some sw fic outlines. Please, please tell me! I'd love to know.
Oh jeebus. I have a lot of them. While I was reading over these again/condensing for purposes of the ask, I realized the reason I probably haven’t finished any of them is because they’re all so plot-heavy and god knows when I start writing something with plot it’s gonna end up AT LEAST 20k.
I put this under a cut because it got long and apparently I am having lots of Star Wars feelings tonight and because I love you anon :D
A) There was the one Clone Wars-era fic where I literally created an entire race of aliens inhabiting a small planet not unlike Hoth and their entire culture was based off of ice carving. Like, they had massive ice cities and ice sculptures and stuff and there were whole celebrations and coming-of-age ceremonies related to ice carving, and even the prefixes of their names had to do with their specific family tradition of carving/where they were from because that influences their style of carving. for some godforsaken reason the separatists hone in and start terraforming the place to be warmer/melt the ice (I say ‘for some godforsaken reason’ but the actual reason is because in its liquid form, this ice isn’t water, it’s some sort of valuable starship fuel [this gives the ice unique properties, and figures into carving traditions, and makes it more hardy than normal ice]) and even though this is one of the good ol Neutral Systems, the Republic gets word of this and is like ‘well shit, we can’t let the Seps get all that fuel’ and Padmé Amidala is sent as a diplomatic emissary (partly because her coalition fought for it, but also because in the back of her mind she knows what it’s like to have your peaceful planet invaded by those who want to exploit it and so she packs like her whole arsenal of blasters because she may be a pacifist in theory, but she’s also fucking pissed.) Padmé also sees an opportunity when the Senate requests she accept Jedi protection on this mission, and she humbly suggests Jedi Knight Skywalker and Padawan Tano accompany her, because they have worked together in the past and will mesh more smoothly with her own security. Cue the shenanigans, with Anakin and Padmé poorly concealing their relationship from Ahsoka, political trickery and corruption, fighting Separatists, aggressive negotiations, and the Republic wins the day.
B) With his padawan gone and his legion falling apart in the waning months of the Clone Wars, Anakin Skywalker wonders what will come after. Or, the Chosen One ponders peacetime. Set post-Fives’ death. (A look at how Anakin feels about losing the people he trusts the most. He 100% has a conversation with Rex about it. Address the “nightmares” Fives mentioned. Talk about clones as “property” and what will come after. Bonding over it.) first line: Fives’ last words stick in Anakin’s head like an itch he can’t scratch. It’s a flutter, a prod in the Force that he can’t understand. (also like. yo. if this turned into a multichapter, imagine Anakin and Rex prodding at this issue and the plot starts to unravel and after like 8 chapters of misdirections Anakin realizes the Chancellor is behind this and yo. YOO.)
C) Fives shoots the probe droid off his back. Everything changes. I have a lot of feelings about this Clone Wars episode cLeArLy and also come on Fives isn’t a shiny he’d KNOW he was being followed. Anakin and Rex are drawn into Fives’ investigation. Anakin is leery, but in the end, much like the previous fic, they unravel the web and everybody lives! (or at least most of them do)
D) Anakin and Obi-wan crash land on a Separatist-occupied planet. Anakin is severely injured because no one can ever legally say I don’t love Anakin-whump, and Obi-wan mother-hens and is trying to keep this idiot alive and it’s part survival, part thriller (because they gotta avoid the Separatists and keep it way on the DL that they’re Jedi), and lots of whump. Ideally, this fic ends in a catharsis moment that, down the line, will lead to Anakin NOT falling to the Dark Side, but I DIGRESS.
E) So, there comes a Breaking Point™ and Anakin leaves the Jedi Order, and Padmé leaves the Senate. Maybe the kids came early, and it just became ardently clear to both of them that Luke and Leia were their priority, and they both just dip outta Courascant and fuck off to Naboo to live happily ever after….kinda. They both love their kids, but they both feel guilty for leaving. (Oh, and Aunt Ahsoka comes to visit, because she left the Order and she and Anakin stayed in touch and it gave him another person who wasn’t Palpy to lean on outside the Order. Uncle Obi-wan also drops in from time to time, when he’s on leave.) So yeah, they both feel guilty, Padmé still teleconferences with Bail and Mon, consults on bills and proposals; Anakin still offers advice to Obi-wan, battle plans (and here Obi-wan would laugh because Anakin when do you ever stick to a plan.) and they both generally just keep up with what’s happening in the Republic because they’re SO DESPERATE to know that everything would be fine without them. And then it becomes very VERY evident that things are NOT all right when Palpatine moves forward with his plans, executes Order 66, and shit is just CHAOS. Idk if he like…. sends some people for Luke and Leia on Naboo, because in this outline I hadn’t decided how much he knows about their departures from their positions/their marriage/the twins, but anyway when he declares himself Emperor and the Jedi have been nearly wiped out, Anakin and Padmé know they can’t just sit idly by. So they both become Rebel leaders, building the Rebellion to what we know it as in A New Hope. Anakin, Obi-wan, and Ahsoka all try to suss out where the surviving Jedi are, all while evading Palpy’s Sith agents. It’s clear Palpatine still wants to turn Anakin. Padmé runs things politically along with Bail and Mon’s help, building a galactic support network. The twins are brought up on Rebel bases, learning the ways of the Jedi from all the survivors, not just a single master. (Though, if they were to get particular about it, Leia is Ahsoka’s padawan, and Luke is Obi-wan’s. The latter was accepted with some grumbling One Skywalker was enough for several lifetimes but changing his tune when Luke turns out a lot more like Padmé than Anakin.) They don’t ever plan on having more kids–life in the Rebellion is stressful and not to mention dangerous, but as these things go, there’s a whoops and there’s now a third Skywalker child when Luke and Leia are in their mid-teens. Boy or girl, I’m not sure. If it’s a boy, they name him Jinn Skywalker (because tbt to that fake vision Vader had in Lost Command) and if it’s a girl? I don’t know. I don’t think it would be Shmi. Padmé 1000000% suggests it, but Anakin says he doesn’t think so. Anyway. Lots of spying and battling and military-ing and propaganda-ing and politicking and lightsaber dueling and Rebels winning later, the Empire is defeated! (Probably after a hella intense battle between Anakin and Palpatine, or his Apprentice of the Week, and Luke and/or Leia have to be there to help him and ground him maybe? Don’t know for sure but it would be TENSE.) Luke and Leia are in their early twenties, Jinn/not-Shmi is ten-ish? Timelines. But they did it! They beat the Empire!
F) This one is sparse, but like…. what if Cleigg freed Shmi and Anakin before Padmé and company found them? Or they just don’t find them until Anakin is a moody teenager, but now with Better Emotional Control because he wasn’t raised a Jedi, and has a loving family? So basically he kind of teaches himself how to use the Force, because he literally has such an intense unconscious connection to it. Eventually Someone Comes™ but I don’t know who this would be or what their reason would be, but I mostly wanted a reason for Owen to be Salty™ that Anakin left the farm. Because in this fic they would be proper brothers, ok. Also, Anakin wins a shit ton of pod-races and becomes semi-famous on Tatooine for being the only human to win not only one race, but a fuckin BUNCH.
G) Your classic Anakin-Gets-Thrown-Forward-In-Time
H) Your classic Luke and Leia-Get-Thrown-Back-In-Time
G) Not sure if this counts, but there’s like…….a massive Star Wars/Avengers Fusion AU that I’ve got going on. I’ve written like… thousands of words for it. Steve is a Jedi, trained by Jedi Master Peggy Carter. His best friend, former Padawan Bucky Barnes fell to the Dark Side after being captured by an enemy (either Separatists or Empire, but I’m thinking Separatists), but Steve still believes that Bucky can be saved/doesn’t believe his falling was purposeful. Cue Jedi rhetoric about falling to the Dark Side, and Steve goes rogue and tracks down Natasha Romanoff, a former Jedi-turned-Sith assassin-turned-bounty hunter whose wise-cracking, flyboy partner goes by the name Hawkeye and is allegedly the best shot in the galaxy. Nick Fury is Mace Windu but with an eyepatch and more justice given to his story. Thor is the prince of some rich planet in the Core (or maybe Mandalore) who was found to be extremely Force-sensitive as an infant, but his powerful family covered it up in his medical records so he wouldn’t be noticed by the Jedi. Jane Foster is a Jedi healer who kind of finds him out.
These are just the ones I have google docs for; this isn’t even counting all the notebooks that definitely have plot-bunnies written in them.

Dragon Ball Z 139
Tumblr media
No one really knows how to end the Androids Saga, since the good guys can’t win and the bad guys don’t feel like killing them at the moment.   So the final battle is basically over whether Chiaotzu can cook good ramen.
Tumblr media
“Badman”, “Post Boy”, and “Tacos.” get a lot of press, but I think there’s something to be said for Chiaotzu’s “Cook” apron.
Tumblr media
And the verdict is...
Tumblr media
Everyone likes it!   It’s definitely way better than the stuff Krillin cooks around here.    Everyone really did forget about Launch, didn’t they?
Tumblr media
Chiaotzu explains that he learned how to cook because he makes all of Tien’s meals.    Launch just vanished one day...
Tumblr media
Anyway, Tien shows up to collect Chiaotzu and train with him.   But why?   Tien didn’t even think he was strong enough to be at the android fight this morning.   What good would it do to train with him if he’s not going to fight?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Elsewhere, Vegeta has an crisis of faith.   He’s always believed that his bloodline made him the strongest Saiyan, and that the Saiyans were the supreme warriors.   Now he’s a Super Saiyan, so that makes him the best ever, at least in his head, but he still got his ass kicked.
Tumblr media
This scene right here is why I don’t have much truck with critics who complain about too many Super Saiyans.    As far as I’m concerned, DBZ doesn’t have enough Super Saiyans.    Every butthole in this show should be able to turn Super Saiyan.  It doesn’t cheapen things, because the moral to this arc, and the turning point in Vegeta’s character arc in particular, is that being a Super Saiyan doesn’t actually solve anything.  Goku used it to beat Frieza, fine.    But Vegeta ascribed all these hopes and dreams to this legend, half of which he seemed to make up as he went.
This whole arc has been about deconstructing everything Vegeta thought he knew about Super Saiyans.   They don’t appear once every thousand years, because Goku, Vegeta, and Trunks transformed within the span of a quarter century.    They’re not invincible because all three of them got beaten up by androids.   You don’t have to be merciless, or crave battle, or even be a full-blooded Saiyan, because Trunks can do it and he keeps trying to avoid a battle with the androids.    All the “rules” that Vegeta thought were inviolate are meaningless.   The transformation makes you stronger, but that’s basically it.    It’s not a guarentee, or even a stopping point.    So it really doesn’t matter how many characters learn to use it.    It was only special because people thought it was special.
What’s important is that Vegeta realizes that he’ll have to keep going, and set his sights higher if he wants to beat the androids.    That’s what being a Super Saiyan is really about.    It was Vegeta’s ambition to get stronger that got him to this point, and now he’s finally figured out that this was never his final destination.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Goku has a fever dream where the newly awakened Androids show up to kill him, and then they kill all his friends and family, and he can’t do anything about it because he’s a ghost.
Tumblr media
In fact, he’s sleeping on some big plane thing, while all the people he was dreaming about are with him on the way to Roshi’s island.
Tumblr media
Chi-Chi wants Gohan to do homework on the way.   Well, she did say she would let Goku train Gohan for the big fight with the androids, and then he would get back to studying.   Yeah, the Z-Fighters lost the fight, but it’s not her fault they couldn’t hold up their end.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, the Androids are driving to Goku’s house, only 17 and 18 don’t know where it is.
Tumblr media
16 knows exactly where it is.    Why does he have that information and the others don’t?   It’s like Dr. Gero only wanted some of the androids to kill Goku.
Tumblr media
I don’t want to jinx it, but I think this might be the very last shot of someone giving Goku his medicine.    You know, that bottle keeps changing every time they show it.   Sometimes it has little pills, sometimes it looks like it has a septum for drawing up with a needle, other times it looks like a little bottle.    All I know is they’ve been feeding him medicine every other episode since he got sick.   You’d think that bottle would be empty by now.
Tumblr media
So what about Trunks?   This whole campaign against the androids was his project, and it’s turned into a complete debacle.  Instead of preventing the androids from wrecking the word in the present day, all he’s done is bear witness to their activation.  He can’t beat them in the present, and he can’t beat them in the future.    Where does he go from here?
At first, Trunks considers travelling further back in time, so that he could destroy Dr. Gero’s lab before 17 and 18 were reactivated.   Then he remembers that this wouldn’t do any good, because whenever he changes history, it creates an alternate timeline.    For example, he gave Goku medicine to survive the heart virus, so while there may be a future where Goku survives, the Goku in his own world is long dead, and that won’t change.   Likewise, any trip he takes into the past from here will only benefit some other timeline, not this one.
So Yamcha asks Trunks why he bothered coming back in time at all.    During his first visit, he seemed very determined to change history, and very concerned about making sure he only changed what he wanted to change.    If his own world is unaffected by changes in this one, what’s the use?
I’ve long appreciated the simplicity of Yamcha’s question.    So many time travel stories make the mistake of getting bogged down in explaining how time travel is supposed to work.  What makes this one so effective is that the story is about why Trunks would go back in time if he can’t actually change anything.
Tumblr media
And Trunks’ answer is equally beautiful.    His mother, Bulma, thought it would be nice if there could at least be a timeline where the world was safe from the androids.  Even if she couldn’t live in that world herself, she liked the idea of helping such a world be possible.
Tumblr media
And, from a more pratical standpoint, Bulma wanted Trunks to join Goku’s fight against the androids.    So really this second trip through time was the lynchpin of the whole operation.    The first trip was just to make sure Goku would live long enough to see this battle.    But the main goal was for Trunks to be there when Goku fought, so that if and when they won, Trunks could use that victory to find a way to beat the androids again in his own world.
Tumblr media
Or Trunks could simply bring Goku back with him so he could defeat the androids personally.   That’s the cool thing about Future Bulma.   For her, it wasn’t about changing history so much as exploring altenate scenarios to find a solution.    If the answer to the androids problem no longer existed in her own universe, then she’d simply find an answer in another one.
Tumblr media
So Trunks starts having a flashback to his own future world, with him wandering through a ruined building that apparently serves as a base.    A bunch of guys are all lying around with swords of their own, and one guy has a jacket just like Trunks.    The implication here seems to be that Trunks is the leader of some resistance movement, and jackets and swords are just standard issue.
Tumblr media
Then 17 and 18 barge in and start shooting, and that snaps him out of it.    Pretty sure that whole daydream was inspired by the dream sequence in Terminator 1.    I can’t remember if it was Reese or Sarah Conner, but one of them dreamt of all these human soldiers huddled up somewhere, and then a Terminator Robot infiltrated the place and started shooting everyone up.
Tumblr media
What Trunks doesn’t understand is how things changed so dramatically.   Goku caught the heart virus later, and there were five androids instead of two.
Tumblr media
Trunks blames himself, since the only possible explanation can be his own impact on the course of events.   I often wonder about why the androids turned out differently, but I can never quite square it.    For one thing, we really don’t know exactly how things when in the timeline Future Trunks grew up in.    I figure there’s two possible scenarios.
1) Dr. Gero activated 17 and 18 on May 12, an they turned on him and attacked Amenbo Island themselves, basically like Trunks expected would happen in Episode 126-127.
2) Gero built 19 and had himself turned into #20, and Vegeta and Piccolo were able to beat them, forcing Gero to activate 17 and 18, who eventually killed all the Z-Fighters.   Trunks just didn’t know about any of those details because he was a baby when it happened, and Bulma wasn’t around to witness any of it.
But that still doesn’t explain why 16 only seems to exist in this timeline and not in Trunks world.    It also doesn’t explain why 17 and 18 are stronger here than they are in Trunks’ world.    In the past, I chalked this up to 17 and 18′s systems breaking down over time.    After 17 years of continuous operation, their powers would begin to wane.    However, Dragon Ball Super seems to contend that 17 and 18 could actually get stronger over time through training.  Maybe that’s not a contradiction.   The 17 and 18 in “History of Trunks” certainly had no reason to train or get stronger, while the ones in Dragon Ball Super did.   So it’s no surprise that the ones in DBS are more powerful.
The bottom line here is that there isn’t a neat and tidy explanation for all of this.    Trunks just doesn’t know what he doesn’t know, and that’s what makes time travel so dangerous.   He knows the broad strokes of what he wants to change, but there’s so many tiny details that he just doesn’t know about.    And these details are much more important than he can know.    Things like Dr. Gero having a secret lab near North City, or Bulma trying to fly over the battlefield once she knows about the android menace.   Things like Goku being able to teleport.    And those are just the details he’s found out about.    There’s all sorts of things that he hasn’t learned about and never will.
Tumblr media
But as he begins to regret tampering with the timestream, Chi-Chi reminds him that if he hadn’t come back in his time machine and given Goku the heart virus medicine, he wouldn’t still be alive right now. Whatever else might happen, Trunks has saved Goku’s life, and Chi-Chi is grateful for that.    So maybe the burden of time travel is too great for one man, but Trunks has still done some good.   Maybe that’s all that matters.
Tumblr media
Krillin agrees.   It’s not over yet.     As bad as things are, there’s still time to fix things, and sooner or later they’ll get a chance to turn things around.    They just have to hang on a little longer.
Tumblr media
Krillin calls Bulma to fill her in on what’s been going on, but she has something important to tell them.    Specificially, she wants to talk to Future Trunks.

My amazing friend @jokesonjess sent me this Chrobin angst at 2am, so guess why I'm not sleeping tonight? 😂
No Rest For The Possessed
This was the worst part about waking up again.
It was the same damn hall. The darkness, the blue flames, the purple hues that seem to seep into your blood like poison…
But it was him. It was always him. Lying in thousands across the cobblestone floor, in various, frozen positions of absolute terror, and atrocities that only I could accomplish.
Impaled by lightning, burnt on the battlefield, hundreds of swords being thrust through his heart; everything was here to remind me of what terrible things I had done. A stain on my soul that can never be removed until my mission is set in stone.
Others that have fallen at my hand don’t lie here, it’s just him. The only man that could ever hold my heart, to tame me, to make me believe I was more than just a monster, would always be my downfall, the reason I continued to fight in this ever looping purgatory.
I sat in the throng of bodies, unable to help the salty tears run down my cheeks as I held my latest attempt in my arms, some unreasonable part of me hoping, praying Naga would free me from this Hell. But the attempts are always fruitless, she can never hear me from the clutches of this realm’s devil.
“Why so sad? Shouldn’t you be used to this already?” That voice, so unmistakably familiar, always succeeds in running a terrified shiver down my spine, freezing my blood solid so that I cannot run, cannot flee from its tyranny.
“Please…” I beg, already aware that my weakness will get me nowhere, that it will fall upon deaf ears, but I must try. I must do anything not to go through it again. “Please, stop this…”
“Why? We’re having so much fun!”
“I’m tired,” I whimpered, drawing him close to my chest, the blood from his latest fatal injury beginning to stain my clothes. “I just want it to end. I don’t care what happens to me, just, please, let him live.”
“You’ve proved well enough that you don’t much care about yourself. How many times have you given your life for him, and it still ended in tragedy?”
“Please!” I screamed. “I don’t know what you want! You always win!”
“And that’s where the fun lies!” The voice laughed, as if my pain was nothing more than a mere joke to it.
There was no real reason why it was still doing this to me, why it continued to make me suffer. In all timelines, he exists. In all scenarios, he wins. Despite my best efforts, despite everything I work for to keep him alive, he always ends up here, in my arms.
“When will it end?” It’s a pointless question. It will never end, not while it has a hold over me. Not while everything works against me. Not while he still owns my heart.
“Oh, come now. Don’t you want to try again?” The voice, though always sinister, makes me realise that it has something else in play. I look to my mirror image standing before me, dark red eyes that can bury its way down deep into anyone’s soul. Those are the eyes that no one can forget, the eyes of eternal hatred; the eyes of a God of Destruction. “One last try, go on!”
I’m pushed to the centre of the room, my feet tumbling unsteadily. The darkness swirls and I have no chance in determining which way is up. All of him disappears, and I know in a moment my memory will be put into a blender for me to never recover again, until the next time I fail. I know that I will wake up in a sunlit field, the smell of flowers drowning out any sign of suffrage. That he will stand above me, help me up, and fill me with purpose once again.
And for a moment, my heart lifts at the possibility of ignorant bliss. Anything to hold him, alive, in my arms once again.
Of course, this is not the case.
“What? It’s you! How did you get in here?” My whole body stiffens at his voice, the previous tears frozen in place. I slowly look to my right, only to find that it is actually him. Same hall, same ambiance, same scenario. Validar. It hasn’t given me this scene in a long time.
The large, double doors at the other end of the hallway burst open with a bang, and my head whips to the left. He stands there, the sweat beginning to glisten on his forehead from the battle he would have fought through, and the length of the castle he had to run through just to get here. All this way, only to die.
“Robin! There you are, I thought I had lost you along the way,” he was smiling. How was he smiling? How can one smile at a time like this? I had tried everything to stop it, to avoid it, to dodge every single conundrum that appeared and still he was cursed to fall at my hand. I wanted to scream at him, tell him to leave, to run the other way, that I can take on Validar myself and win. But there was no chance he would listen to me, the oaf.
“Robin, look out!” His smile immediately fell as he sprinted forwards. I could hear the crackle of lightning behind me, but I have no motivation to dodge from Validar’s attacks. He is nowhere near me to aid me, so the lightning imbeds itself in my right side, shooting me across the room and into a stone pillar. I slump to the floor, in pain but mostly winded.
“Robin, snap out of it!” He’s right in front of me, strong arms lifting me to my feet. I see Falchion shining in his hand, but any requests for salvation will end in his inability to listen during a fight. “We have a battle to win!”
He races forwards, ready to attack. Sword and magic clash together in an endless rain of sparks as they battle, misfires and dodged swings making the hall rumble. Without his stability, my legs shake before buckling beneath me, making me collapse to the ground.
“Robin, what’s wrong with you? Why won’t you fight?”
“There’s no helping her!”
“What have you done?!” They exchange words like they’ve never fought this battle a hundred times before. It’s too soon, however, all of this is too soon. I remember too much, fought too early, lost too soon.
I look up, only to witness Validar gain the upper hand, throwing him back a few metres. I can see the exhaustion in his eyes, the wounds afflicting his swordsmanship to strongly come into play. He’s losing this battle.
There is really, nothing more motivating than trying to protect one’s heart. Maybe there’s something I’ve missed, maybe there’s hope for him yet. I can’t give up, I can’t surrender to it yet. It cannot have the last laugh, not again. At the sight of Validar’s incoming attack, I rise from the ground, determination making the fire in my eyes burn.
Using the Elthunder tome, I summon a ball of golden, sparkling power before throwing it directly at Validar’s own attack, both shattering into a rain of gold and purple sparkles that drizzle onto the ground around us. I stand in his way, summoning spell after spell to push the Plegian leader back.
Chrom zooms past me, that same determination burning as he raises Falchion before him, swinging it into an arch across the sorcerer’s chest. With a final, brilliant call of lightning, I seep my power through his wounds to end the battle once and for all. The power I took and the adrenaline seem to drain me of my ability to stand, and I would have fallen to the ground if he hadn’t rushed to my side, arms wrapped around me to keep me steady.
“I never lost hope,” his voice is close to bringing tears to my eyes, but I embrace his warm hold, relishing in the few moments I will have with him. Over his shoulder, I bear witness to Validar’s smoking remains, and I know I only have a short while left.
“Chrom,” I whimper, unable to believe the next request ready to come out of my mouth. He pulls back, the relief on his face falling almost immediately. It’s as if he can spot everything I’m thinking, reading my mind like a book.
Even before I can get the words out, Validar’s ashen body rises from the floor for that one last, fatal attack. He screams some terrible omen I’m half aware of before my instincts kick in. I push Chrom as far out of the attack’s reach as I can, his grip on me slipping and his face transforming into one of absolute panic. I take the full blow, sending me halfway across the hallway, but, of course, it’s never enough to dispatch of me entirely.
“Ready?” It’s back in my head, immediately drawing my worst fear to the surface. Not again, it can’t happen again. I can’t let it.
Chrom is at my side, a slight smile on his face as he congratulates me for taking the day, for granting Ylisse the freedom it had been fighting for. But even before he’s helped me stand on my feet, I’m prepared to fall again. The blood is pumping through my veins, all I can see is a red hue darkening my surroundings. I can feel it crawling around my mind, desperate to let the building power take flight and remove the one good thing from this world forever.
“Chrom,” I cry, falling onto him, hands gripping his armour tightly. His face has returned to that look of fear, his voice desperate to figure out what’s wrong. “Chrom… kill me…”
His eyes almost immediately darken. He’s confused, I can see that. It’s a heavy request to fulfil, I know this, but it’s one he must take in order for him to stay alive. If only he would just listen to me. “Robin, what are you talking about?”
“I know what comes next and I can bear it no longer. Please, Chrom, I beg of you, kill me, before it’s too late. Before I become it,” surely he can see the fear in my eyes, the power ready to burst through my skin. Surely he can see, and understand, what I am asking of him. It takes everything I have not to run Falchion through me myself. It doesn’t work like that. I need to fall by his hand for a change.
“What’s gotten into you?”
“Listen!” I scream, my legs regaining their strength only to take his clothes in my hands and push back against him, his loose grip on Falchion making the famed sword clatter to the ground. “It’s the only way you can stay alive. You need to kill me, please, that’s all I ask. Please, Chrom, I’m begging you, just kill me.”
“Robin,” Chrom moves through my waning grip, enough to wrap his arms around me. The amount of tears pooling in my eyes makes it difficult to see but his thumbs brush them away as he attempts to calm me down. My hands fall to their places as he speaks, the place it intends them to be. “You know I can never lift my sword against you, I would die along with you. Please, don’t say these things, you’re scaring me.”
“Chrom–”
“You’re tired, and you need rest. Let me help you.”
“Please,” my voice is drowned out by my sobs. Why won’t he listen to me? Why won’t he do as I ask? He can’t seem to understand the pure gravity of the loop we are both in, this circle of suffering that has entrapped us for all eternity. But now I can feel it, the sparkle of energy dancing on my fingertips and I know I’m too late.
My eyes close as his breath hitches in his throat, the lightning bolt imbedding itself through him, right between a set of ribs on his left side. I’m afraid to open my eyes, to watch the horror before me with the memory of countless others. But his expression appears in my minds’ eye and I am forced to open them once again. I can’t conjure a scream, or a cry for help. All I can do, is watch the pain in his face as his blood rolls down his Shephard uniform.
“This is not y-your fault,” he whispers and my head slowly shakes at him as he struggles to keep standing. “P-Promise me, you’ll escape from this place.”
I catch him before he collapses to the ground, cradling him close to my chest. There’s really nothing I can say or do in this moment, only watch as the life drains from his storm-grey eyes. A weak cough escapes his lips, but it doesn’t stop his adamant need to get me away from here. “G-go…”
“I can’t leave you,” I whisper, brushing a few loose strands of blue hair from his eyes. “I can never leave you, no matter what I do. I’ve tried everything, Chrom, everything to ensure you live. And every time, you fall by my hands.”
“This is not your fault.”
“But it is. It all is. Every time. There’s no stopping it. I will always fall in love you, and I will always be your undoing,” I explain, taking his cheek into my palm and holding him close. Amidst all his pain, all our suffering, he still managed a weak smile.
“I love you, too,” he manages out before the last of his strength leaves him, and he falls limp into my arms. I have only a few seconds remaining before the hall returns and I will see my failures again. I let loose a scream to hopefully deafen Grima before diving for Falchion.
Against everything I know to happen next, I still drive it through the broken space between my lungs.
I can smell flowers all around me and feel sunlight warming my skin. It’s a peaceful surrounding, one that seems to sap away the anxiety that had suddenly built into my chest. My memory swims in my head, images I cannot decipher appearing before me as they disappear entirely, like a dream one forgets immediately as one wakes. Two voices draw me from slumber, encouraging my energy to open my eyes.
“Chrom, we have to do something!” A girl speaks, voice chiming and ringing with naivety and a gentle heart.
“What do you propose we do?” A man speaks, voice warm and comfortable, commanding loyalty and leadership. A voice I’ve heard before…
“I-I don’t know!” My eyes open to two figures standing above me, and my sight grabs their attention, making them smile down at me. To my right is the owner of the female voice, her blonde hair set in pigtails and her outfit shining with good fortune. To my right stands the man, blue hair making his storm-grey eyes shine with unending kindness.
“There are better places to take a nap, than on the ground, you know? Give me your hand,” he extends his hand out towards me and although I’m cautious of these strangers that spark with familiarity, I take it and let him help me from the ground. He lifts me into the air with ease and I’m almost thrown off balance by his strength. I would have fallen into him if he hadn’t caught me with the same amount of ease.
My mind can barely remember the odd, six-eyed symbol on the back of my right hand as I stare at this blue-haired man. He smiles warmly at me, his hand gripping mine just that little harder, but I feel as though there’s something I cannot see, some emotion that makes my heart both sink and soar. I can’t help but hold his hand tighter, too, as if it’ll be one of the last few times I’ll be able to do it. A name is conjured deep within my memory as the last of it seems to crumble.

Cassus, The Devil of the Reef: Prologue and Forging of a God (Chapters 1 & 2)
(This is a Mass Effect/Destiny crossover so keep that in mind)
Prologue
Before the Traveler came, several races came together. One man investigated a beacon on a human colony on the outer rim of council space. What he found would kick start a war between the races of the Milky Way and a race of sentient machines.
This man was my great grandfather. Zachary Thomas Shepard was a Commander in the N7 Alliance Navy. Now, the timeline may sound fucked up, but that’s not true. As the war fell to a close and Zach’s decisions lead him to a crossroad, his gravitation towards the protection of the galaxy gave him the ability to destroy the Reapers once and for all.
Not without heavy casualties, the races began to rebuild. Before the war, the humans, asari, quarians, krogans, turians, and the rest of the races sent out a vanguard to the far off galaxy of Andromeda. This led to the colonization of a new civilization.
After the war on the Reapers, a new arrival caused the universe to flourish. A Golden age was upon them as a god had graced them with its blessing. This huge white ball called the Traveler. This ball blessed us with amazing tech, incredible healing abilities, and to many people it deemed worthy, immortality.
As this Golden Age settles in, my great grandfather fell in love with a quarian who was my great grandmother. Tali Shepard vas Normandy was a strong woman and a main inspiration for most of my life. Each of the heroes of the Citadel was gifted with that blessing of life and, with that, they decided to travel to Andromeda to protect and defend as well as start families.
Generations continued and, while in Andromeda, our family progressed to where I was born. As I grew I learned from all different sources until I turned six. I know my great grandfather and my extensive family is out there somewhere watching and praying for us as they watch from Andromeda.
My father eventually married my mother, coincidentally also a quarian, who was to be the last of her kind in the Milky Way.
Eventually, a small group of people desired to see the fruits of the Traveler more thoroughly. Several humans wanted to return to the Earth to begin a new life. Unfortunately, that was the plight of my grandfather as well as my father.
The rest decided to stay in Andromeda. Thanks to modern technology, she and my father were able to have four children together. I was the youngest and somehow was the only one to gain the traits of both races. Human in nature, but my eyes flowed a deep blue.
As my grandfather and the rest of our family stepped on a return ship leaving our great grandfamily behind, several years passed as we sat in cryosleep. As we reached earth.
Unfortunately, the god we had was also running from someone or something. That something was already there
Eventually, the universe began to take notice of where the Traveler was. The Earth and Solar system was attacked by heathen races vying for the Traveler. As we ferried into the atmosphere, we were shot down, thankfully with no casualties. As we bunkered down in Manhattan, we began to learn the history from the few that were left.
The Fallen scavengers attacked first. Then, the ritualistic Hive rained down nature’s vengeance, which just happened to be the ones that shot us down. They were followed by the time-traveling Vex and the relentless warmongers, the Cabal. With their attacks, they pushed us to the last remaining city on Earth, Vostok Russia.
I continued to grow up in the MDZ, or the Manhattan Dead Zone, as it became known as. Time moved forward as we defended our city and settlers. I eventually lost my grandparents in a raid by shadowy doppelgängers of the other races attacking we learned all too late were named “Taken.”
My father and mother became part of our small sectors leadership as descendants of the heroes of the Citadel. More details about life growing up will come later, but let’s just say life until I was 23 formed who I was as a man.
As we tried to push them back, the Traveler began blessing thousands and thousands of people with Light. These men and women were known by many names. Most of them were risen from the dead to aid the fight. These men and women became known as Guardians. As these demon forces began attacking our final city, this is where my story begins and ends and begins again.
Forging of a God
I’d always admired heroes. I never was one. I hid a mask of light over the shadow that consumed me. I always knew that my flip side would consume me one day, but most people like me had a lifespan. I did not. I was gifted immortality. Leader, savior, hero...all names I was saddled with. The only one I knew fit was killer.
I was one of the people that flocked to the mercy of the Traveler. Me and my best friend, Dredgen Yor, looked to it as a start of a new life, a change from who we were. We were 24 year olds who lost a sense of where the world was going. We knew our settlement was doomed and got what people we could out. We got as far as we could and thought we were safe. Just not as safe as we hoped.
We reached the outside of the wall when we were ambushed. Guns went off and explosions shook the ground. I yelled for people to get inside the wall as we held them off. As we fought off these demon creatures, I was shot in the leg and I knew it was over. Dredge died quickly. He was impaled and it was over. Me? They tortured me, left me to die, and all I saw before I blacked out after 3 days of the worst pain I’d ever experienced and the severing of all four of my limbs was a three-eyed swordsman from Hell, laughing as my head rolled away.
What feels like seconds later, I wake up in an unfamiliar skin. My limbs are all there, but a few feel metallic and rough. All except for my torso and the stumps of arms and a leg I had left were pure steel, parts, and stuff I can't explain. My face felt mechanical and strange.
I look up to see a pale, little box telling me in the most frantic yet sarcastic voice that we need to get inside the wall and that’s how I met Sapphire, my loyally sassy ghost. She’s a goofball, bubbly, and a weirdo most of the time, but she’s a nerd at heart and god help her, she knows more about me than I do and yet she loves me regardless. Strange, I don't remember the wall being that big.
As we move forward, I hear the foreign mumblings of what seems to be anger and interest. She finds me a Kvostov. Not my wheelhouse as I preferred pulse rifles and handcannons but I could never turn down a machine gun. As we took off in a derelict ship with not much more than guesses and questions as to what came next, I flew towards what felt like the right way.
I walk into the tower to see the first familiar face. Cayde-6, my old mentor, was waiting and somehow knew me from this new face. I guess considering he was an Exo now, an AI with the memories, emotions, and senses of a human, I shouldn’t be talking because I was in the same position. Guarantee he lost a bet to be saddled with tower duty. He was always a free spirit.
I guess all “Exos” had their own distinct personalities and mine stuck out like a sore thumb to him. He explained what had happened to me and filled me in on the beings in the wall. Fallen. Never heard of them, but they weren't who I was looking for. Cayde, being Hunter Vanguard, passed me a good hand cannon (he knew me too well) and said we have some work to do.
“These are gonna be just like your Hellfire days, dude. Only this time, you will actually be making a difference as actual heroes, not vigilantes. Do what you do best, Guardian. Welcome to the best of the best, the Hunters.”
Hellfire was a nickname I had gained in the MDZ. They said I could shoot a demon square in the face from a thousand miles away with a pistol. I wondered about the whole badass flaming pistol thing. I had always been a gunslinger by choice due to my weapon expertise and pinpoint precision, but with that and all of the throwing knives and grenades I could ever ask for, all of this could not be more amazing and perfect. I grew accustomed to these new powers, I began to wonder more of Dredgen and what of him.
“There are rules to being a part of the city’s Vanguard that you would do well to remember.” Zavala droned on.
God, this tour was long. I mean, I’m ADHD and overly hyperactive in my head at that, but, Jesus, it’s like Father Time was dragging a boulder the size of a krogan around with him. And why the hell were Titans so big. I felt like I needed a Sparrow to keep up with him.
“First, no researching past lives unless authorized by the Vanguard. You also must fill a patrol quota each week to make sure that everyone does their part.” He said, sternly.
I figured as much. That being said, my curiosity could kill nine lives off of the world’s luckiest cat.
“Also, only the Vanguard’s majority vote authorizes high-priority mission. We choose fireteams unless we trust the person’s initial choice. Any questions?” He finished.
“What is the capital of Assyria?!” I said in a witchy voice.
He literally just sighed and moved on. If he had to deal with Cayde, I can’t imagine how many of these jokes he had heard.
“On a serious note, where do I live?” I ask, honestly.
“We give glimmer for bounties, missions, patrols, and a finder’s fee for new tech, weapons, materials, and relics. You can use that to buy an apartment. We’re not picky as to where you stay as long as you report to the Vanguard regularly.” Zavala said.
“Fantastic.” I responded.
“Forge your light. Master your abilities. The more powerful and trustworthy you become, the more missions you get sent on and the more specialized weaponry we trust you with. Ever heard of a Gjallerhorn?” He asked.
“Wasn’t that, like, a rocket launcher forged by that old army of warriors?” I said, wondering where this was going.
“Correct. Gain our trust enough and maybe we will allow you to create your own. But not today. Good luck, Cassus. Make us proud.” He said as he trudged off.
A year passes and I guess a perk of being a guardian is that I’d be staying 24 forever. My body was already 30% armored steel but I wouldn’t be aging anymore, which is good. All of those mortal wounds didn’t hurt anymore which was brilliant. The Traveler had remade me and for that I’d be forever grateful.
Eventually, curiosity overtook me and, with permission from the Vanguard, aka Cayde signing me off ‘cuz he’s my bestie, I spent days in the Tower archives, digging out the remains of my past life. I spent hours, searching through pages and pages of scouting reports, histories, and biographies until I broke through. My brothers had been guardians. Pahanin and Praedyth. In fact, Pahanin’s old HMR was the first Exotic I’d been allowed to own. But his history was a different story completely.
Several decades ago, Kabr had been sent with my brothers into the Vault of Glass to investigate at the orders of none other than Osiris. Just when I thought I had avoided him for good. The Vex were the enemy that had attacked our town and forced us to evacuate. Their attempt at a foothold on Earth had lasted for a good year. Assault after assault we held them until they finally broke and forced us to make a run for the Last City. I had been split up from my brothers and my father. All I had was my best friend, Dredgen, and the very few refugees we could help escape. Until now. All of this was Osiris’ fault.
Osiris was a fanatic. He was unnaturally obsessed with the Vex and everything about them. Their networking, their hive mind, their terraforming, every aspect of them was something he wanted to dissect. He was also head of defense for our zone. Because he was eccentric, he was consistently dressed like a fucking Egyptian bird. See what I mean? So overly dramatic and egotistical.
What really bothered me was that he always put knowledge and curiosity before everything and everyone else in his life. He never gave a second thought to his own actions or the consequences. All he wanted was unlimited amounts of pure knowledge and if that meant risking a few humans’ and loved ones’ lives, so be it. However, the worst of it came about three years before my death.
The attack came when I was 21. It was a perfect summer sunset evening. I was about to switch out for the evening. Dredge and I matched schedules, so we would be meeting up soon for my “second job” as the city’s police force. Crisis and chaos can turn people nasty as all hell, so Dredge and I kept the piece the best way we knew how: through fear. As I walked in to Osiris to report on my watch, I found him tinkering with a Vex Hobgoblin.
“Osiris, what the hell are you doing?! This is not ok! This is going to end like the last time and someone else important is gonna die.”
“How will we know if we don’t study this?”
God, was he eccentric… “First of all, I am not a scientist, I am a bounty hunter. Second off, THIS” I said, shaking a Vex arm at him, “puts lives at risk! Great grandma Tali would not be ok with this! Shit like this almost destroyed the Migrant fleet! Society is crumbling. My mother died the last time you pulled a stunt like this!”
“But I’m so close! If I can backtrace to the main neural netw-“
“Osiris, the Vex have hive mind, if one of them got captured-“
I never got to finish.
For those of you who have never heard a Vex Mind scream, it is not something I can describe perfectly. It is a demonic screech of a vengeful machine god louder than anything you have or will ever hear. There are only a handful of things that were worse than what I heard that night. I ran out to see a Minotaur ten feet tall leading an army of other Vex, marching towards us in the distance.
“Evacuate…..EVACUATE!!!” I yelled at full volume.
“I can control them. If I use this unit-”
“Osiris, look outside, you ignorant bosh’tet! You can’t control that!”
“We can’t kill them, but if we can coerce them to fight for us, we can take back this planet! Our honor depends on…”
“DEPENDS ON WHAT EXACTLY?! Your obsession has saddled us into too many life risking situations already and for what!? Your own personal interest?! This planet or so you say?! My mother lost her life because YOU thought she could harvest their radiolarian fluid! And you think this is about HONOR?! Remember Javik’s words, Osiris? Stand on the mounds of hundreds of dead civilians YOU caused and ask them if honor matters. The silence is your answer.”
Those were the last words I said to him before we died. Words I had learned from the very last survivor of a an ancient dead race. I let those words echo in his brain before I stormed out to save the civilians.
That day, we lost everyone but the few families that Dredge and I could save along with a few orphans. Pahanin and Praedyth were nowhere to be seen. I learned from the Tower that the Vex in that town had been destroyed about a month after by Rasputin, the AI Warmind. He launched an attack, eliminating any chance for a Vex foothold on Earth. The Warminds were more active then.
After we escaped, it turned into a 3 year journey searching for civilization. Every place we reached was empty. We lived outside of Manhattan and we walked west. Cities, the whole country, was just gone. We knew the MDZ was gone, but we didn’t realize it was this bad. Eventually we reached the city and you know that part of the story.
That being said, a lot of lives were lost because of Osiris’ carelessness and lack of restraint. He was dead to me and he always will be and no action he can do will change that.

Who is Legion
Tumblr media
FX is airing a new show called Legion based off of the character Legion from X-Men. The show exists in the XMCU which means he lives in the revamped timeline where Cyclops is alive and none of those first horrible movies existed but it’s not necessarily going to have any connections to the X-Men yet. The character Legion is also going to be an original take on the character but he is so great that I’m going to give you the canonical history of his life so far. It’ll be interesting to see what the keep the same; they definitely kept his mental illnesses.
Tumblr media
Legion’s real name is David Charles Haller, a Jewish man from Haifa Israel who canonically can’t grow his hair into anything but a gigantic mohawk, and he is an omega level mutant which means he has practically God–like powers.
His father is Charles Xavier, Proffessor X himself, but his mother, Gabrielle Haller, kept that a secret for a very long time. Gabrielle met Charles at a hospital where he was using his psychic abilities to alleviate trauma of the Holocaust survivors. They had a short fling in which David was conceived but Gabrielle, suspicious of his psychic abilities, kept David a secret and David’s godfather, Daniel Shomron, stepped in to help raise him.
Tumblr media
When Gabrielle entered the Israeli Diplomatic Service she and her family were attacked by a Palestinian terrorist cell. Gabrielle and David survived, but Daniel used his body to shield David from the bullets and was killed. The trauma activated David’s mutant genes early (he was 10 years old and they don’t usually manifest until puberty) and as his psychic abilities turned on he killed all of the terrorists. David went comatose and absorbed the psyche of one of the terrorists who took control of his body, still comatose, and fought the growing alter egos forming in David’s Mindscape due to his DID
Tumblr media
Gabrielle turned to the renowned geneticist Moira MacTaggert, coincidentally another one of Charles Xavier’s ex girlfriends, who insisted Charles come to treat him personally. Charles found that David had very similar mutant abilities to his own, only much stronger, then found out he was his father.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By joining the war in David’s Mindscape Charles was able to wake David back up and most of the alter egos were destroyed but they continued to develop unchecked.
Tumblr media
Legion/David gained and lost control of himself many times, hurting many people even murdering Destiny, Mystique’s wife, when she tried to intervene with him and he saw through her precognitive abilities how devastating his future would become.
Tumblr media
David decided he would realize his father’s dream of mutants and humans coexisting and to do that he traveled back in time to his own conception to kill Magneto who Charles was also with at the time.
Tumblr media
Time travel shenanigans ensue and Bishop ends it by showing David what future he is actually creating. David was ashamed and in the reconstructed timeline he was thought to be dead, his mother even questioned his conception.
Tumblr media
Years later David was discovered trapped in a concrete box and once he escaped he was transported forward in time where Bishop resided. It was a dystopian future and David was immediately captured and put into slavery. He got out of it somehow, these sort of things happen quite a bit to him. The X-Men finally took him in and Karma and Magik began working with him to get better but he still had major reality twisting hiccups while he was trying to be good but his ever increasing alter egos keep taking over. Meanwhile his relationship with his father continued to be estranged; Charles seemed to think he was too dangerous unless he wanted to utilize his powers or alternate personalities. Magick  is the only one that seems to consistently try to help him but sometimes with ulterior motives
Tumblr media
Now for the really good part. X-Men Legacy: Legion written by Simon Spurrier.
Tumblr media
Up until this point Legion was very inconsistently written because he had been a very minor character but in Spurrier’s Legion series the loose ends of the story are tightened and we actually see David as David. Before he only momentarily surfaced to find that he had caused a disaster and everyone was debating on whether or not he should be put down.
Tumblr media
Charles had sent David to a secluded place for rehabilitation and never came back, as is his pattern with David. After the event of Avengers vs X-Men where Charles dies David finally had to face the fact that his father was never going to come for him, he was never going to publicly acknowledge him, and he never planned to let David return to the real world.
Tumblr media
When he felt his father pass away David’s power surged and he wiped out the community he was living in, before his Guru died he told David to wait for the X-Men to come to relocate him again but David left, deciding he finally needed to change the pattern of his life, get a grip on himself, and find a way to see his father’s dream of coexistence come true. He does this by making himself somewhat of an invisible mercenary, trying to save mutants the X-Men hadn’t gotten.
David turns his Mindscape into a prison to keep all of the alter egos contained which worked relatively well, all things considered
Tumblr media
Blindfold, a mutant nearly as powerful and ostracized as he is, seems to have an instinctual connection to him.
Tumblr media
Blindfold is Ruth Aldine, and she takes after her legendary grandmother Destiny. The Destiny that David accidentally murdered years before. Ruth has a very traumatic history; she was powerful she was born with her mutant abilities already developing and she was born blind, specifically she was born with no eyes at all. When Ruth’s father left her brother Luca blamed her because she was a mutant and tried to kill her but accidentally killed their mother instead. Luca joins a radical anti-mutant group and ends up fracturing her mind which gives her schizophrenia and a very prominent speech impediment
Tumblr media
She takes refuge in the X-Men mansion/school but the way she speaks, looks, and is unable to restrain herself from reading everyone’s minds makes her a social outcast
Tumblr media
The X-Men eventually track David down with the help of Ruth’s powers
Tumblr media Tumblr media
 And David isn’t having it
Tumblr media
The X-Men try to keep Ruth from him but through their mysterious connection Ruth easily enters David’s Mindscape where she is partially able to speak normally, depending on her mood
Tumblr media
She is able to get through to him until one of his altars breaks out and attacks her, knocking her out.
Tumblr media
David lets the X-Men take the mutant children he had found and secretly follows them back to watch over Ruth who is now comatose. He enters her subconscious and sees her whole life, specifically her bullies
Tumblr media
He brings her back to consciousness and they meet briefly as he escapes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She keeps track of him by following him in her astral body, not understanding quite how powerful he is and that he always knows where she is
Tumblr media
He tracks down the radical group her brother had joined and sets out to destroy them and her brother. She “reveals” herself to him telling him to knock it the fuck off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She makes him promise not to hurt them so he sort of complies by messing with their minds so they will no longer be a threat. David continues on his mission to save mutants and impress Ruth and she continues to be his conscious while they secretly meet on the astral plane
Tumblr media
As this is all going on David is trying to deal with what looks like his father’s consciousness personified in his Mindscape jail. The entity does claim to be Charles Xavier and it continually terrorizes all of the alter egos and mocks David, among other things…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The golden pervert, David and Ruth’s inherent connection, and because it’s X-Men everything is leading to a future dystopia where David loses control again but this time destroys everything. Ruth will have to kill him because she’s the only one strong enough and deeply embedded in him to destroy all of the alternate personalities along with David
Tumblr media
but David insists that he can change fate. He’s powerful enough and with Ruth as his one that gives him “purpose” he’s pretty sure he can pull it off
Tumblr media
But he’s going to do it by changing the will of people that will influence the dystopian future. Ruth argues that it’s immoral, especially to punish people for things they haven’t done yet. It was against Charles Xavier’s dream to force people into anything (although he often did it, unbeknownst to them) but David isn’t empathetic, in fact he already took out Aarkus before asking her permission. Ruth was mad but soon thereafter she sought him out again by using Cerebra
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But he had already made a deal with the golden pervert in his brain that in exchange for checking on the future again the pervert could have controlled his body for one minute. (Each of David’s altars personify one of his thousands of powers.) David sees the apocalyptic future he creates and runs off to an ideological facility that “cure” mutants by giving them medication that will give them brain damage, blocking their ability to use their powers. Ruth goes to her peers and the X-Men asking for help to get David out of this but it takes a lot of convincing
Tumblr media
David he realizes that although the patients seem to be well their minds are really shattered but another apparition of his father appears, reminding him of his failures and making him feel guilty for denying his heritage but David blocks amount and decides to go through with the cure anyway
Tumblr media
The operator of the facility reveals himself to be the Red Skull and the one that caused him to see his father because he had implanted Charles Xavier’s brain into himself, hoping the shame of giving up would make David want to fight but David still doesn’t want to
Tumblr media
He is given the medication and they air his conversion live on TV
Tumblr media
Ruth appears with X-Men she had convinced to come help her save him which is what the Red Skull had apparently been aiming for and the X-Men are live on TV appearing suddenly in what appears to be a peaceful facility to stop a man who admits to being a monster from “rehabilitation” but David had planned on him planning this and uses that moment to bring in a young mutant he had saved earlier. The boy’s ability was that everyone immediately loves him and believes anything he said, practically giving him the ability to change reality. Through live TV he convinced everyone watching that the mutants weren’t their enemy. He tries to evoke empathy but that doesn’t work as well
Tumblr media
Of course a battle with Red Skull ensues which is when the golden pervert who looks like Charles Xavier comes to take his one minute with complete control of David’s body. He wants Xavier’s brain for himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ruth fights to get the minute to run out so David can take control of his body again and then we have this really funny moment
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously this isn't the end. Not only because it's comic books, but because this is a cliffhanger. The ending is kind of amazing so I want to encourage you guys to go read it.
You can buy them on comixology, book retailers, but check your local libraries as well. My local library is nothing but comic books and VHS copies of Titanic.
