AU where Shen Qingqiu (original flavour) has a qi deviation and (maybe because the System interferes and tries to transmigrate SY into his body but fails?) something goes really weird and he wakes up to his twelve year old self lying next to him.

Obviously, he can’t actually tell anyone that Shen Jiu is his younger self. He’s not exactly sure how it works and what would happen to him if SJ died, and he remembers what he was like at that age, and it would really damage his reputation if everyone else did too. So, SJ gets introduced as his nephew who has come to learn cultivation under him. Obvious nepotism? Sure, but might as well take advantage of those assumptions people have about him to hide the truth. Who’s going to question him, YQY?

So, SJ becomes a disciple while still being pretty confused as to how he got into a cultivation sect and where Qi-ge is. He gets into a fight with Ming Fan almost immediately, which naturally results in him recruiting LBH (currently 13/14) as his minion, since MF already took the rest. (LBH calls him shixiong even though he really should be shidi). They become pretty close quickly, although it’s still something of a transactional relationship with LBH telling him stuff about how the sect works and helping him work on his writing/reading, while in exchange, SJ fights of the bullies for him because he doesn’t have to worry about getting thrown out.

This changes after a while when SQQ notices how close they’re getting, and in an attempt to convince SJ to stop being friends with LBH, tells him what happened with Yue Qi (leaving out the fact that he’s YQY). This backfires by leading to their first proper bonding moment when LBH comforts him about it.

Crack SVSSS Mpreg AU where when Shen Yuan transmigrates in, the system impregnates him with the displaced soul of the original Shen Qingqiu.

For the purposes of this AU, we'll say that male pregnancies or trans men being pregnant in the PIDW universe are uncommon but not especially noteworthy concepts.

So now not only does he have to deal with recovering from his qi deviation and of course being pressed into the role of the scum villain from the novel he was just reading, he's also mysteriously knocked up, can't explain it, and doesn't even know for sure if the baby will recollect being Shen Jiu when its born -- and of course hate him for stealing the Shen Qingqiu life.

What's more, Shen Yuan can't bring himself to get rid of it, because he does have mixed feelings about stealing Shen Jiu's life as well. Even though he knows it's probably the best tactical move, and he doesn't even like Shen Jiu, and the system has said there wouldn't be any penalties because it wouldn't impact the major important plot milestones, he opts to just... keep it. And not think too hard about it.

Luckily(?) cultivators have a lot of control over their bodies, which means a pregnancy can last however long they want it to, so Shen Yuan doesn't have to worry about giving birth in a hurry. SJ seems fine in utero, stalling his development doesn't have adverse effects, so Shen Yuan just swears Mu Qingfang to secrecy and figures out how to keep his pregnancy at the early stages for as long as possible while he hashes everything else out. So apart from internal freak-outs, most of the early plot proceeds as usual.

Unluckily(?), this state of affairs changes when Shen Qingqiu gets infected with Without-a-Cure, as that makes it so that putting off the inevitable is no longer a viable course of action. He can't spare the extra energy and doesn't have the stability of cultivation required to mess around with his pregnancy anymore, so things have to proceed at a more normal rate.

Which means the other peak lords and the disciples on Qing Jing find out that Shen Qingqiu has been harboring a secret pregnancy for an undetermined length of time. Shen Yuan has to bite the bullet and use the amnesia excuse to explain his lack of insight to the existence of any other parents (he's surprised it works so well, because he doesn't know that the rest of the sect has already figured out he doesn't remember some things after his fever), which inspires a lot of behind-the-scenes chaos because everyone has ALSO figured out that Shen Qingqiu's amnesia seems to pertain to things that must have traumatized him in the past.

So if he's pregnant, and he lost his memories of how he got that way...

Well. Cang Qiong is now on the hunt for an attacker who might already be dead and doesn't actually exist.

But everyone agrees that Shen Qingqiu doesn't need to be troubled by these details, so if he's okay with not remembering, then they're okay with letting him not remember. The only one who tries to bring it up is Liu Qingge, and that's mostly in the context of wanting clues so he can track down the culprit and stab them until they are dead.

Luo Binghe supports the quest to find the persona responsible and violently murder them, but as a disciple he has no resources to actually go on some wild goose chase for a mystery rapist. Besides, he has more important things to do on the peak, like making Shizun's meals, keeping Shizun's house, and preparing to help raise Shizun's baby. Luo Binghe is not going to be the stepdad, he is going to be the dad who stepped up! (Binghe please cool your jets you're like fifteen you're going to give your future shizun whole new inner turmoil about whether it's possible to accidentally babytrap your own teenage disciple via immaculate conception reincarnation pregnancy...)

Anyway eventually baby SJ arrives, and Shen Yuan immediately decides to block all recollections of the childbirth process and never dwell on it again. Something happened, he's no longer going to think about it, oh look a baby! A potentially evil villain baby. With cute widdle toes and tiny fingers and a squished, grumpy baby face that gets all red when he cries...

Yeah. Despite his reservations, there's no way he's not getting attached.

He gets Binghe to help him pick out a name for the baby, partly because he feels terribly presumptuous when he actually knows this kid's real name (but he can hardly call his son "Shen Jiu"), partly to encourage Luo Binghe to have some fondness for the kid so that if he someday hates his old shizun, he might still spare his "son" from his revenge. Even though it's actually SJ's fault. Well, he's a baby now. He probably doesn't even remember anything! He sure does cry a lot! Would the OG villain cry and fuss and settle down only after being sufficiently cuddled?

Turns out, yes. Shen Jiu remembers everything from before his fatal qi deviation. He's just also still an infant. So what can he do but cry? And maybe pee on the beast and that body-stealing creature that has reduced him to this. He spends most of his early infancy waiting for someone to come smother him with a pillow, but the conspirators must want to keep him alive for some reason, because it doesn't happen. Instead he gets looked after and soothed and taken care of in a way he never has been. Also, his stupid baby instincts keep insisting that the creature which stole his body is actually the safest person in the whole world.

It's like a cruel joke. SJ finally gets the childhood he always wanted deep down inside, but the one giving it to him is some kind of monster.

I remember a post about Shen Jiu wanting someone to be there for him when he needed it most, and that it would've changed the way he is if he had said person.

And its not wrong, Shen jiu really needed someone to be there for him

So in every Shen twin au, it would mean that Shen Jiu wouldn't be the cruel person he was. He would just be sassy. And because they share trauma, Shen Yuan and Shen Jiu would both be over protective of each other.

Imagine they become peak lords and decide to be silly and have the same peak lord name and have the same disciples. Imagine the confusion the disciples must have when on their first day the teacher is strict and cold. Then the next day he's overflowing with love and is suddenly so kind.

The disciples just came to the conclusion that their shizun has D.I.D until they find themselves having to go on a mission with the both of them because one doesn't like to go out and has to keep count of affairs that doesn't involve crowds and the other has to keep count of affairs that involve crowds.

And then they realize "oh. They're twins. But why would they both be Named SQQ?" That wasn't answered. They both answered vaguely.

And the fact that Shen Yuan is now a Native in the world he probably told Sj about the system. That or Sj found out about the system, and he became a glitch.

So when Lbh finally arrives, Sj keeps a close watch, and Sy immediately shows favoritism.

Which eventually shocks the other disciples because the twins hardly ever play favorites. Though the disciples know that Sj's favorite person to be around would be Sy, but Sy??? Having favorites??? Shocking.

Though Sy still tries to live under the radar of the system, Sj takes the place of protecting Lbh for him.

However due to Sj's having a villainous appearance being the supposed villain, scares poor white lotus.

Sy being over filled with joy just seeing lbh, gets hit with a big bang of, OOC. because Sj is a glitch. He cannot count as Sqq, therefore Sy, has to take over has Sqq.

What's more, Lbh gets confused on who is who from time to time. One he hardly ever interacts with (Sy) who is actually very kind but he's not close enough to let his guard down. The other, strict and scary, and has no plans of getting to know him or close to him.

Eventually, Sy gets rid of Ooc, and gets to be close with Lbh, and Lbh gradually latches onto this kindness.

Soon enough the Demon attack thingy arc happened, and since the Shen twins were known to hardly ever fight, nobody knew what type of fighting style they had. They think just like how common stereotypes work.

But to their surprise, Sj is more on defense and Healing, Sy is more on offense. Despite their appearance, they tend to act more differently from what they look at certain times.

Ofc the poisoning thingy happens, and Sj scolds Sy for saving someone who won't be affected.

Ofc this leads to Sy telling Sj about Pidw, and etc etc, and about the Abyss.

So blah blah blah. Non of this matters.

What matters is that Shen Jiu is happy, and not cruel. Just Sassy and happy.

Sy: wanna talk sh/t about other peak lords?

Sj: how unbecoming of you. Yes, I will. why ask?

Etc etc.

Lqg: fight me.

Sj: ... Oh me? No thank you, I don't wanna fight children.

Lqg: but I'm not-

Sy: he says you're childish. Now leave.

So yeah basically.

Shen jiu is not cruel if he just had someone be there for him. Baby boy just wanted to have someone by his side.

Oh and. Sy has trauma too. Oh and Sj is on good terms with YQY.

so I can't stop thinking about your dragon au. How did Liu Qingge and Shen Qingqiu meet? Are they Liushen before they're Bingliushen or just pining messes?

An excuse to talk about Liushen?? Y e s okay so!

The timeline is a little different in this au, meaning that Binghe is going to become a disciple at the sect but not until later (which means he never had to experience SJ), but they meet in the typical Lingxi caves type of situation. Except having a Qi Deviation is Much more dangerous when you are capable of turning into a fuck off sized dragon in a cave system that is not necessarily meant for full size dragons. Lqg treats SY with a lot of caution for a while because he recognizes that this person is (or at least was) SJ!Sqq, but knows that something is very different given that SY!Sqq has different coloration and an entirely different demeanor. He acts on this caution by being around SY a lot to observe him and tries to fight him a few times like he would with SJ but SY always declines.

Eventually they warm up to each other (SY always treated him as SY typically treats Lqg, teasing and whatnot) and as soon as SY realizes Lqg is being more friendly with him he is ecstatic and is even more teasing and friendly and invites Lqg into his hoard and home to hang out and eat together.

Which of course means that SY unknowingly initiates and engages in dragon courting!! And very intimate dragon behaviors that leave Lqg so so confused and scared and happy all at the same time. The little bit of angst in there is that Lqg thinks that this half-baked relationship means nothing to Sqq because of how he doesn’t quite reciprocate things correctly and that he’s just one in Sqq’s long string of lovers and meanwhile SY!Sqq is just like :D wow! How dragons interact with their friends is so interesting (They’re pretty much moved in with each other and almost having gay sex and scent marking each other) (Lqg has given up most of his hoard to Sqq)

So essentially yeah, they’re both happy (one of them reluctantly so) and have their weird not quite a relationship going on for a while and it doesn’t progress past that until plot happens and Binghe returns as an adult to court his Shizun and Sqq is bonked over the head with O h there’s two people trying to date me o.o

I’m a sucker for pining so there’s plenty of it in this au 👍

Here’s a quick au concept for you: post-PIDW SJ wakes up as a child again, and assumes he’s time travelled somehow. He decides to join Cang Qiong for just long enough to become a decent cultivator, and then he can fuck off. Unfortunately for him, he doesn’t realise until too late that he hasn’t time travelled at all — he’s still at the same point in time, just in a different timeline. One where SQQ died of a qi deviation a few months after LBH became a disciple, and then after a decade-long official mourning period a new peak lord was chosen from his remaining students to replace him… and of course, it’s LBH

Why would Shen Jiu think he's time travelled? The moment he finds out what the year is or hears who the emperor is, he can figure out that he's alive in a pre-Emperor Luo Binghe era, yes. He's a crafty person who knows the right people to get information from. He's not going to march straight to Cang Qiong sect and join it - he's going to check things out. Moreover, he was only at Cang Qiong for Yue Qingyuan and the sect wasn't a happy place for him. Add in that inferiority complex / self hatred and he's going to think that staying away from Cang Qiong will protect Yue Qingyuan.

So Shen Jiu's much more likely to come to the (correct) conclusion that he's in another world/iteration where things went differently. In his memory, he remembers surviving that severe qi deviation, but evidently this life was another story. And the beast isn't some Demonic Emperor, being too busy managing Qing Jing Peak. It infuriates Shen Jiu of course that his peak was handed to the beast, but... the world isn't torn into war and chaos. It only goes to prove to himself that he was the root of all problems.

(More reason for him to avoid Cang Qiong at all cost.)

This AU is going to give so many knives to Shen Jiu's heart from all the "realizations" of how much better off everyone is if he died earlier.

(He doesn't see any of the Qing generation peak lords' grief or of Qing Jing disciples' struggle to cope without their strict shizun.)

shes the sects shijie. everyone knows her, everyone loves her. you need a hairtie? she has one. you find yourself alone with her in an enclosed space while travelling? she will lecture you about life. you accidentally got in trouble with your shizun? dont worry, shes going to coach you on exactly what to say so your shizun is calmed and distracted. shes been through all of it for you (cangse sanren and xxc must have gotten that kind but kind of crazy vibes from somewhere)

now au of this au wherein shes a qjp disciple and is sj's shijie. he is her first pseudo adopted son. her very first kid she picked up from the streets (yq is her second)

thinking about how yq finally isnt the oldest, and how he'll finally have someone older to lean and rely on. sj would absolutely love having an older sister, especially one as smart and reliable as bssr

however he does NOT like how she pushes for him to communicate better >:(. yes he agrees that qige should learn how to communicate better, but sj? hes doing just fine as he is! why does he have to learn about *feelings*

the vibes i envision for her is that shes the alyssa edwards of the jianghu

Another late night brain blast, in a AU where JC is a reincarnated SJ, Bingge comes through on a hunt for a kind Shizun. He sees that JC is a SJ without any memories and that he acts like the kind Shizun, especially towards his young nephew. BGG tells him he’ll destroy everything unless JC comes back with him and fulfill his past life debts by taking care of him. JL and WWX are freaking out and begging that JC doesn’t do anything stupid, but it’s not like JC isn’t used to sacrificing himself to keep others safe. Maybe if his past life was as horrible as this Demon Emperor made it out to be it would be safer to keep himself away from them. He’d obviously brought to much karmic debt with him and that’s why his life had gone down hill. So BGG takes him back with him and thus starts a fraught story of JC trying to figure out what to do to keep this erratic creature from tearing him and anyone he loves apart in a fit whilst WWX goes insane trying to find away to get to and save his shidi. Maybe the center of the Burial Mounds has a Xin Mo buried in it. BGG would be swinging between being pissed that JC isn’t exactly like either Shizun and obsessed with the bits that are like them.

Anon, you simply must know that this is divine.

It wouldn't even take a moment of consideration for Jiang Cheng, would it? He's probably been obsessed with ensuring that the next Jiang-zongzhu would be well-prepared for their new role. "If I died tomorrow, would Wei Wuxian the true second-in-command in all but name during and after Sunshot Jin Ling while Jin Rusong was alive my second-in-command be able to lead the sect?" must be a question that haunts him. So Lotus Pier has been designed, and his disciples have been trained, for the inevitability of his death.

Do you think the idea of being The Worst Person Ever™ (according to PIDW Luo Binghe) would settle into Jiang Cheng's insecurities easily, nestling into his soul? I don't think he'd even need to be convinced; he would certainly not defend himself. When have Shen Jiu or Jiang Cheng ever defended themselves? ("To whom should I complain? Did I tell this, / Who would believe me?")

I think he'd ask for a moment with Jin Ling. And grasping, desperate, hungry Luo Binghe would allow it--if he can watch--so that he'd be able to observe how Jiang Cheng loves other people. So he can recognize the signs in case Jiang Cheng could ever love him.

Very fun concept. Jiang Cheng would be sooo miserable.

SVSSS AU - Real Villainy

Svsss au where Shen Jiu says fuck it and just becomes a real legit villain. He’s tried to do the right thing and it always goes wrong - maybe if he tries to be evil he’ll do good? Unlikely, but what other choice does he have at this point?.

He comes to Cang Qiong while Yue Qingyuan is still locked in the cave and finds out that, rather than give the man medical attention they shoved him in a cave to let the chips fall where they may.  

Shen Jiu is like "wow, actually, fuck these guys" but he hangs around to learn from them, ends up head disciple of Qing Jing, then Yue Qingyuan is released from his cave and he's like "right. I'm busting us out of here"

 But the peak lord of Qiong ding isn't going to let her successor go so easily and beats the tar out of Shen Jiu when he comes to sneak Yue Qingyuan out. Shen Jiu is slippery though and he escapes.

He is still head disiple of Qing Jing though. His Shizun is very fond of him and refuses to instate a new disiple, even though SJ has technically defected and fought the sect leader.

 Teams up with some demon whose cultivator wife betrayed him because he's going to get his Qi-ge back if it kills him - well. Kills someone else. No point getting his Qi-ge if hes not alive to enjoy it.

 Then he finds out the disciple was the head disciple of Huan Hua and he's like "oh, the girl with the pervert master?" And suddenly Tianlang Jun is like ',,, maybe we should find her first. Before we do the murder.'

They plant a body of Su Xiyan and raise baby binghe while they wait for it to grow.

Free uncle for Luo Binghe

Literally the day SXY crawls her way out of the ground (only took a year, but it was a year too long for SJ) the three of them - and binghe, in a baby sling - storm Qiong Ding and reclaim YQY. 

The two of them enjoy their life as ‘cultivation consultants’ to the demonic emperor - aka, they baby sit Binghe and back Su Xiyan up when she tells Tianlang-jun that he’s being a moron.

So, here’s an AU I actually came up with back in February but apparently forgot to post here:

It started by thinking about AUs where SJ and SY are siblings, and how SJ is usually depicted as the overprotective one — so what if it was the other way around?

SY reincarnated as a child who was on the streets with YQY and SJ, and retaining memories of being an adult made him feel responsible for them — their big brother! SJ still ends up being taken by the Qius and SY tries to rescue him (not sure exactly how that plays out yet except that he’s the one to kill QJL and it’s when he realises that SJ is actually SQQ and that he’s in PIDW).

SY is the one who actually becomes Peak Lord though, with SJ acting as his second-in-command. Even though he’s pretty different to the original, due to having a lot less trauma and a lot more support (although he’s still a bit of a jerk sometimes), SQQ still worries that the original plot will assert itself once LBH comes along, and he doesn’t want his little brother suffering like that, so he comes up with a plan — just keep them as far apart from each other as he can. Unfortunately he’s still got a System so he can’t just put LBH on another peak…

When Luo Binghe first becomes a disciple, he notices pretty quickly that things that are… weird. He becomes a favoured disciple almost immediately even though his shizun is known for being a bit uncaring for his disciples and dismissive of some of them at what seems like random. He hears that SQQ has a younger brother that’s almost never seen — he teaches a few classes, but LBH gets personal lessons from his shizun instead of attending them.

One evening he comes across SJ playing music in a bamboo grove and starts talking to him. SJ doesn’t even seem to know who he is, so his worry that SQQ was keeping him away because he had offended his brother somehow seems to be unfounded… Then SQQ shows up suddenly and he’s angry… but at SJ? LBH doesn’t really want to be the cause of a fight or even around, but SJ seems just as confused as he is.

SQQ is panicking because they’re interacting! He was trying to avoid that! Unfortunately for him, both of them have now realised that there’s something weird going on with him, and as the two people who spend the most time with him, shouldn’t they work together to figure out what it is?

(SQQ saves LQG, SJ fights the second match during the demon invasion, SQQ doesn’t step in to save LBH from Without-A-Cure because he knows he’ll be fine).

In the aftermath, SJ is the one who gets pulled into LBH’s dreamscape and meets Meng Mo, and after that he realises pretty quickly that LBH must be part demon when he asks him if all demons are evil. He also puts the dots together about SQQ not stepping in with Without-A-Cure… he knows LBH is part demon as well, and based on some of his other odd actions, might have some knowledge of the future which could explain his odd actions.

Of course, they don’t know what that future is, only that it seems to be the reason that SQQ doesn’t want the two of them interacting. As a result, LBH starts to feel a bit paranoid about SQQ— is he just being nice because of the future he saw? Is it just an attempt to manipulate him?

So, the IAC is coming up, and SQQ knows that LBH has to go into the abyss and between him and SJ he knows it has to be him who does it (he doesn’t consider that SJ might not do it at all). So, SY asks the ‘would you be willing to face great hardship to become powerful’ question and LBH, knowing that SQQ knows the future, guesses that something is going to go very wrong with the IAC.

Obviously it does, although at least they’re able to be a little prepared for it — SJ is the first one to find LBH when the conference is attacked. Like in canon, MBJ shows up, and there’s a fight, although SJ does a lot better because he doesn’t have a poison holding him back. But in the end, as is his fate in (almost) every timeline, LBH ends up falling into the Abyss anyway.

SQQ comes across the scene at the exact moment the Abyss closes.

SQQ is too focused on what happened in PIDW to see that SJ actually kind of liked LBH, and is upset about loosing him, and ends up attacking him with accusations of pushing LBH in, of being jealous of the time LBH spent with him, of wanting him to fail. Blinded by his own expectations, he only sees the worst in SJ, and it drives a wedge between them that will take years to fix.

BingJiu AU where during the disciple days LBH ends up finding a rare artefact that can give a person a glimpse into the future. However instead of his own he actually sees BingQiu's future in the other universe, where they end up happily married and in love.

LBH of course has no idea that this is a different universe and that the "soft and kind Shizun" is actually SY and not the SJ of his own universe. So after a bit of bewilderment and disbelieve, LBH becomes excited and tries his best to make the future become reality.

However making his (heavenly traumatised) Shizun soften up to him proves itself very difficult. (Good thing however that the universe does bend to his will and will give a helping hand in form of wifeplots)

so I read Sit With Your Soul on your recommendation and I was not expecting to love it as much as I did and now I am desperate for more Shen Yuan and Shen Jiu interaction 😭 Please save me and feed my soul with more recs, I will take anything

I feel you, I also wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did but it's become one of my favorite fanfics ever (for those who want to check it out, link here: https://archiveofourown.com/works/43841023/chapters/110232877)

There aren't nearly enough fics focusing on a SY/SJ dynamic as I would like, which is a tragedy because there's so much potential there. Here are a few of my favorites though:

A Pairing of Souls by Muzu: Platonic SJ/SY and I think the development of their relationship is very well done here. You can tell how protective they are of each other and it's one of the first fics I read that made me jump onto the SJ/SY ship (whether platonic or romantic).

Deluxe System 2.0: Co-op Mode by Kitsunealyc: Again, platonic SJ/SY. Honestly they come across as brothers bitching at each other for like 98% of this fic and it's fantastic.

The Tiger of Hu by Christian Richtown: Takes place in a mystery story xianxia AU world. The gradual development of feelings between SJ and SY is very well done here. The author has also written a separate story detailing the events from SJ's POV (original is from SY's POV).

the reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated by zigur zig ah: I love the author's writing style and the chemistry between SY and SJ is amazing, 10/10. However fair warning-- the secondhand embarrassment is REAL, Shen Yuan is Very Stupid (and we love him for it).

Spilled Ink by Zarasu: Short but very cute! Featuring disciple!SY pining after his pretty Shizun. One of my favorite romantic SY/SJ fics.

grass so green is the river grass by grassvipers: This fic is absolutely adorable, I love it. Featuring SJ and his emotional support fox SY (SJ is absolutely one of those dads who never wanted a pet until they actually got one and immediately became way too attached).

Sqh, omega, is head disciple of an ding and looking forward to becoming peak lord soon when he is summoned with a bunch of other omega disciples, mostly from an ding, for special medical exams by the current qian cao peak lord

The exams are…inappropriate…but while the other disciples don’t seem too bothered, sqh eavesdrops a bit and realizes something is up, what are these examinations for? But he’s required to submit by his shizun so he does it

During the exam two other peak lords (bai zhan, qing jing?) are present and sqh eavesdrops enough to realize that they’re talking really weirdly about him…syaing he’s ‘a prime specimen’ and an ‘ideal candidate’

It turns out the three peak lords are looking for omegas to convert to cauldrons, as an experiment qian cao lord is doing for bai zhan and qing jing’s benefit, bc both of them want their disciples to get to use the cauldron to stabilize their cultivation

Sqh gets chosen and is immediately imprisoned while qian cao lord sexually tortures him as part of the cauldron making process. He’s then presented as a gift to lqg. Lqg doesn’t think anything of it bc he’s fed a lie about how sqh’s cultivation is weak and as an omega he’d rather be a wife than a dead disciple or whatever…a stupdi excuse that lqg only buys bc he has some prejudices he hasn’t overcome and bc he doesn’t know sqh well

Sqh endears himself to lqg as much as possible bc he knows if lqg rejects him he’ll be given to sj, and sj has already assaulted him once and made it clear he thinks he deserves a cauldron more than lqg

When the time comes for the final ritual or whatever that will bind sqh to lqg and permanently convert him into a mindless cauldron, he plans his escape, stabbing lqg through the back with his sword and running away. His initial plan is to destroy the wards protecting cqm so that he can escape during the chaos and as revenge, but he runs into a bunch of an ding disciples and it turns out they were all convinced something terrible happened to him and were planning to rescue him

An ding disciples band together to get sqh off the peak, they supply him, stage a fake demon sighting as a cover story, help him get away and buy him a lot of lead time. Sqh is touched by their care and doesn’t blow up cqm; instead, having gathered all his emergency stashes, he flees the peak using a series of secret tunnels.

Having escaped, sqh collapses some distance from the sect and breaks down. He’s terrified of being caught, and as he’s freaking out mbj appears to yell at him bc sqh hasn’t answered any of his calls/been around to do his bidding

Sqh immediately begs mbj to take him back with him, and mbj assumes sqh got caught spying and that’s why he ran away. So he takes sqh back to his kingdom and puts him to work there

Uh times passes, sqh makes himself a useful servant and gets closer to mbj as he he works his way up the hierarchy. Mbj notices a change in his personality as sqh becomes a lot quieter and seems nervous around him, but doesn’t understand the context and assumes this is a combination of him behaving more respectfully in public/reciprocating mbj’s feelings

He does notice sqh is warmer and louder around other people but doesn’t think anything of it

Eventually he asks sqh to marry him, but sqh, terrified of him, accepts bc he doesn’t think mbj would accept a refusal

From sqh’s perspective only mbj’s protection is keeping him from being thrown out and either killed by demons or sent back to the human realm where his sect would abuse him again. In addition mbj is a big terrifying alpha who sets off all sqh’s trauma. Oh and sqh is afraid that if anyone finds out that he has the potential to become a cauldron (bc he completed most of the process already) they’ll immediately turn him into one

They get married.

Sqh is slavishly devoted to being a useful spouse, but he’s not affectionate or intimate with mbj at all, never initiates sex, and always wants to fuck in the dark, and he just lies there not participating, and at one point mbj has to leave right after and when he comes back sqh is like, sobbing in his bedroom with the door closed

So mbj knows something is wrong, but has no idea what. He’s terrible at feelings and totally not congnizant of the power differential, but he does care about sqh, and also he’s wildly jealous bc now he can clearly see that sqh is way more comfortable with other people but freezes up when mbj is in the room

I don’t think mbj had a clear idea of what a marriage would be between them. He’s used to being in charge and doesn’t have a lot of experience with healthy marriages bc he’s so distant from the people around him and bc his parents were fucked up. But he does realize that neither he or sqh are happy and that sqh doesn’t seem like he notices, so he decides to fix it.

Things he does to fix it:

Send sqh to a secret village of medical cultivators for treatment. Mbj has no idea what that’ll do, he’s just like “my human is not working fix him” but said cultivators are genuinely nice people who give sqh therapy and help him develop some coping skills and also give him a safe place to meditate and work on strengthening his cultivation

Consult the madam of a brothel. This poor woman is just living her life when a demon king shows up and demands she be his marriage counselor but he sucks at explaining things and also doesn’t know anything about humans and she doesn’t know anything about demons and is worried if she offends him he’ll eat her.

Oh and mbj initially pays her in rare artifacts and sqh works out where he was, retrieves the artifacts, replaces them with money, and then gives mbj money like “hey I set aside these funds for your use for, um, discreet purchases. My king it’s not good if others can trace your payments to…anyway. I took care of it” and mbj gets really mad bc sqh isn’t jealous and doesn’t mind if mbj sleeps with prostitutes even though he isn’t actually and sqh doesn’t understand bc he has had 0 expectations of fidelity and also mbj straight up told him he would take other spouses and sqh would be inferior to them

Mbj you fucked yourself lol

Sqh is actually very upset, but he doesn’t get why so he just represses the feeling

3zun + NHS reincarnated in PIDW au

One day NHS has to go to Qing Jing for something and runs into MY, but it's basically the first time they've seen eachother in person since they got reincarnated. They end up stuck in this horribly awkward polite conversation, which from the outside looks like they're being incredibly terse and icy with eachother.

They're having this intense stare off of "do you remember the whole me killing your brother/you killing my brother and then you killing me/me killing you thing, and most importantly how much are you still mad about it" but from the outside it just looks like two disciples who shouldn't know eachother giving eachother death glares.

SJ is watching this with a single brow arched like, I suppose the disciples are making mortal enemies younger and younger these days

And LBH is like, What do you MEAN my crush RIVAL for shizuns's affection attention already has an archnemesis

To be fair, things are going to be weird AF already because Nie Huaisang is an old laidback man in a young body who likes to make random jokes like "oh I don't think my joints can take that, to be young and carefree again" and "young people these days are in too much of a rush" while Meng Yao died at his prime so he's still ambitious AF, impatient, and anything but laid back...

Add in the fact that Nie Huaisang is used to being respected and obeyed after all his decades of being sect leader vs. Meng Yao who never feels like any of his work results in any true respect...

Things get tense on Meng Yao's side quickly. Nie Huaisang though? He's having fun poking and prodding at this little hissy kitty.
