Sigourney Weaver plays an unintentional feminist icon in what is arguably the best movie in the franchise, Aliens (1986). The rich men in charge refuse to take Ellen Ripley’s eye witness account of the deadly xenomorph seriously. They even make her get a psychiatric evaluation. When they have to admit they need her expertise, the ones they hire to help her don’t take her seriously, either. But time and again she’s proven right and she survives after they’ve all died. This sequel is so much fuller than the first movie. There’s tons of personality and character growth all around. I love that Ripley isn’t hyped up to superhero status. She's an ordinary woman put in a bad situation and forced to adapt. You can’t escape the clear lesson that misogyny and greed ultimately end in death and destruction.
