I'll tell you, all my fics are special to me and most of the time, I find myself having fun writing them. Writing isn't just a hobby, but a way for me to release pent up feelings I have or express an idea that came to me.

To name a couple...

Beware of the Bunnies - It's the first fic I wrote for "if Miruko was Midoriya's mentor". It was fun writing that fic, especially when it's a fic for my two #1 faves. I honestly didn't expect the amount of attention I got for it!

Not Red, Black - I sometimes like branching out from writing warm-hearted, funny fics and this is one of those times. Another AU idea I had, but if Miruko and Midoriya were eldritch-like creatures and related. Unlike its prequel, this one stepped more in horror imagery and I think the direction the fic took.

Forbid a Woman from Being Great - Yes, another Miruko fic and one I actually wrote out of spite. When it comes to this fandom (as with any), is how double standard they can get. With Miruko, I have seem people hate her for being "too aggressive" or "too mean", but praise other characters for those same traits or even give excuses for their behavior. Or with fanservice, the same people who complain about it also thirst over the male characters getting bloody and shirtless. I don't hate characters like Dabi, Shigaraki or Hawks but I can't stomach how their fans act when it comes to Miruko or any other character really. It was actually a Hawks fan that irritated me enough to write this fic as well as get me out of the writing funk I was in.

An Absolute Menace - This is a fun little fic. It's part of a series of Class A and occasionally B partaking in antics. With this one, writing Koda as this troll was new, but fun.

Let's SK8 Over the Rainbow - This is actually a SK8 series that I wrote and it's still one of my favorites. It started off as a headcanon (Reki allowing Koyomi to paint his nails) and then spiraled into a collection of short stories themed around colors and I love colors so much. One of the fics, You're Lime Green Jell-O, I dove into expanding a character that only appeared once in SK8. Her name is Miki and she has green hair and I remember seeing her and going "You, you're getting some personality, a story, etc." Best decision ever. I just loved writing Miki and I think it was the first time I wrote a whole story for a character that only had two lines in canon.

Tu es le Moment Auquel J'appartiens - Another series I adore. I wanted to write some jealous Vanitas since I don't think I had seen a lot of Vanoé fics where he was the jealous one while Noé was more oblivious. Not at the time, I don't know about now since I haven't read a VNC fic in a long time. The title translates to "You are the moment I belong to" which is a line of lyrics from the anime's first ending song that I love so much.

It's the Pink Hair, Isn't It? - Do not get me wrong! I do love the AUs I see where Sukuna and Yuji are brothers, but the idea of this fic came from what if they were identical strangers and not related in the slightest. Even funnier, in the fic, Kenjaku and Suguru are siblings that look like twins, but Kenjaku is older. My favorite scenes probably have to be Kenjaku and Yuji interacting and Sukuna and Yuji meeting. I've also been cooking up a sequel so I can write more of Kenjaku and Suguru being siblings and Yuji's brothers and I do mean all nine older brothers. (I relate to Choso so much.)

Your Heartbeat Is My Comfort - Ever see a beautiful piece of fanart and you want to write a fic about it? That's what happened here. I saw this FushiIta art post here and it was like BAM! I had to write a fic. It was also another I didn't write something comedic, but more somber, bit of tragedy yet comfort in there.

Maybe Someday We'll Meet Again - I'm all for the Teacher Geto AU! However, this fic came from a what if scenario had Suguru and Yuji had met when they were younger and I always how Kenjaku was even aware of Suguru's technique. So I put both ideas together and thus this fic was born. It isn't dark, but little less comedic than others and I tried my hand at focusing on more of Yuji's strangeness and innocence here along with Suguru's character before he became a curse user.

You Are My Special - Again, another time I went for less comedy and fluff and tried with something else. I actually don't know how to categorize this one in terms of genre. SPECIALZ was stuck in my head for a long time and it got when I really started thinking about the lyrics and decided why not try writing something from Kenjaku's POV about Yuji? It may have took forever to write, but I'm glad I did. I actually wanted to write a companion piece of sorts but from Sukuna's POV about Yuji.

The Pink Sky and Cherry Blossoms - I actually just posted this fic and I'm glad I waited to answer this ask because of it. I was rereading the manga and came to Uro's fight with Ryu and Yuta and instantly fell in love with her character and thought about how would it have been like if Uro met my other favorite, Yuji? They have some similarities going on there and it was eye-opening writing those into this fic, especially with Uro's character. I wasn't around when that arc came out, so I didn't know how the fandom acted towards her, but for me, I just felt there's more to her than the surface. She's the Miruko of JJK to me as Yuji is the Izuku. Just as I would love for Miruko and Izuku to be a duo in a big sis-lil bro/mentor-mentee way, I love the same for Uro and Yuji.

The Craving That Paints Your Lips Red - The last fic I wrote for 2023 and a sequel to another fic, I wanted to try my hand at the horror again. But more tame, but still "Oh my gosh". I'm writing a post about it, but I have thoughts about Yuji and Sukuna's relationship and sometimes I have this feeling that Sukuna wants to corrupt Yuji, kind of like shape him to be the next him almost. Not for certain, but it's an idea that kind of struck me. For this fic, I wanted to explore a more horror fic side of Yuji housing the King of Curses. The best part of this fic for me is how I unintentionally stuck with the idea that Yuji keeps getting back up no matter how many times Sukuna tries to break him.

That list got longer than intended, but again, I have a lot of fics I have enjoyed writing! I'm glad to have talked about them and I thank you for asking! 💜

editor's note I go on about the history of the shaman king media franchise for like. way too long and I'm not deleting it so. plot summary starts after the flowers anime image

it started out as a shonen adventure manga created by a mangaka named hiroyuki takei which ran from 1998 to 2004, where it somehow Ate Shit And Died, leaving the manga ending unfinished somehow (idk I wasn't there)

it got its first anime adaptation in 2001

this anime had 64 episodes and covered a complete story. hey goose but if it aired in 2001 and the manga ate shit in 2004 how did they- they didn't. they made shit up. remember kanata dying on the cross? take that extend it to cover half the story and make it FUCKING AWESOME

shaman king 2001 has this impeccable Vibe to it that I really love (the only other thing I can think of with similar impeccable Vibes is sk8). a lot of fans prefer this anime to the manga and I can't blame them it sure has its perks. it also has its downsides. which is mostly terrible dated character designs and diverging from the manga if you're not into that.

I love this show though this is what I rewatch when I want any old shaman king in my spare time

SHAMAN KING KANZENBAN MANGA

that's right- between 2008 and 2009 the entire manga was reprinted to get its "true ending", including redraws of some panels

later in 2012 BAM SHAMAN KING FLOWERS

yes there's a full mainline sequel. flowers itself ended in 2014 when the magazine it was in Ate Shit and Died. the story was continued in another manga, The Super Star, before last year the magazine publishing TSS, say it with me now,

Ate Shit and Died (yeah Takei has real bad luck with that)

and then, just a few years ago...

BAM SHAMAN KING 2021 REBOOT ANIME

finally, an anime adaptation of the kanzenban manga, true ending including... this is where I show up. finally! I needed something to watch on a long car ride in august 2021 and happened to download the first eight episodes on netflix, a decision which would have no repercussions on my life philosophies or me as a person (lies)

there are pretty mixed feelings about this anime overall (the pacing goes fucking BRRRRRRR that's for sure) but I can credit that thing with getting me into shaman king and restructuring my brain so it has a special place in my heart

(it's also what I first get people to watch when they agree to shaman king with me. you should really read kanzenban instead because it's better)

lastly there's the flowers anime airing right now

and like. soooooo many more sequel prequel and spinoff manga. and also all of takei's works (I'm planning to read ultimo soon because someone said that's where the spirit based on the vermilion bird came from and that has a common ancestor with allen sugasano so I'm going) oh shit and funkuro/funbari chronicles the mobile game that is either closed or on its way out. and so much more

I'm not going to explain every one of them because I realized you probably wanted. a plot summary. so

like I said before it's a shonen adventure manga so it follows a lot of tropes, but I think it does them pretty well and in its own way. if you read through the entire mainline manga (kanzenban, flowers, and tss) it's clear takei has a lot to say through his work and he's pretty explicit about his view of the world (shoutout to evil triangle who invented capitalism)

takei's writing and research can be kinda iffy at times and I would never say his work is for everyone but I love it to bits and it has really helped me out over the years

my personal favourite pieces of shaman king media (besides kanzenban) are:

Red Crimson (spinoff of the main sequels following an adult legacy cast, brilliant story about love and grief except for the Horrors)

& a Garden (prequel spinoff about the hanagumi witches, side characters from the first manga)

Some time ago, I was scrolling through your One Piece tag, and I saw an anon ask what would happen to Doflamingo's kid after he got imprisoned. You answered that the kid would most likely be arrested, and it got me wondering: would they (Doffy Jr.) be put in jail (imagine being ten or something and getting a life sentence, haha) or would the World Government try to brainwash them to be their loyal government dog? You also mentioned that there would be a possibility if they were young enough that Viola or some other person would adopt them, but who would want to take care of Doffy's kid? Wouldn't the public be wary of them and the possibility that they'd grow up to be like their father?

On an unrelated note:

I’ll post the head canons in a bit! As I’ve been making this post I’m realizing that I do not fully understand the genre of Shōnen. There are a lot of shows I like that are classified as such that I wouldn’t have assumed go on my list. So here we go!!

Sports Anime

-Most of these have the same plots. I don't think it's bad, but that also means I enjoy most of them. I'll list I few that I enjoy but these are not all of these.

-Sk8 Infinity, Haikyuu!!, Yuri!! On Ice, Free!, Keijo (nsfw), Run With The Wind, Chihayafuru

The Classics

These are shows that I would consider staples of the anime community. A lot of these are from the 1990-2000's. I'm sure some of these haven't aged well but they are nostalgic. This age of Shōnen also has a habit of being what I originally thought of Shōnen being. Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, and Naruto are good examples but I personally prefer One Piece out of those three.

-Soul Eater, Black Butler, Gintama, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Death Note, InuYasha, Sinbad, Magi (Sindbad is a prequel to the Magi series), Cells at Work

The Modern Age

These are shows that have come out within the last five years or so. My younger audience/audience newer to anime may recognize these titles.

-Vinland Saga (extreme violence), The Promised Neverland (I can only recommend the first season. Season two sucks), Kakegurui (nsfw), Tokyo Revengers, The Ancient Magus Bride, Fire Force, Record of Ragnarok

Honorable Mentions

These shows are either highly popular or interesting that I don't enjoy as much. These shows aren't bad, they just don't mesh with me very well. Dr. Stone, for example, is highly scientific and it makes me feel unintelligent. I also find Jojo's art style nauseating. I have extreme motion sickness and the animation just makes my stomach hurt.

Yes samatoki and leo have the same va! It always shocks me. And saburo was actually the character i got into hypmic for lmao it was way before i even knew what enstars was...what a time man. I just thought his design reminded me of miya sk8theinfinity and i was going through sk8 withdrawals/ the hyperfixation was coming to an end after 5 months.

And no:( the anime doesnt really give you much other than vibes and a good time, youre not getting the actual story or backstories. I read those in the manga, it used to be on tumblr but the translator moved them to a discord server now im pretty sure. “Hey, Kojiro?” Your eyes are downcast and your voice so quiet it’s almost drowned out by the sound of his blood pulsing in his ears. The hallway’s sparsely populated with other teenagers, all of them disinterested in the two of you.

“Yeah?” He tries to keep his voice measured, perhaps even devil-may-care.

A moment of silence. You press your lips together, as though you’re grappling with your own thoughts.

Kojiro thinks he’s going to lose his mind.

“Can I talk to you?” You swallow, finally daring to meet his eyes. “Alone?”

You’re blushing, and you look so damn cute it’s taking everything within him to stop his mind – and his body, for that matter – from getting ahead of him.

“Sure,” he nods, trying his best to appear nonchalant.

You’ve never spoken to him like this before. Never so nervous, so… bashful. It looks cute on you.

He wonders if he should say something. Would calling you cute be too forward? Although, with how you’re acting, standing in front of him with pink cheeks and an air of general nervousness… maybe it’d be just the right thing to do.

Before he can say anything, you scuttle off, glancing over your shoulder as if to encourage him to follow.

He already knows where you’re leading him to; the roof is technically not a restricted area, but the implicit rule is that nobody has any good reason to be up there. Not that that’s ever stopped the now of you before.

His heart is racing at frankly unimaginable speeds now. Even skating doesn’t raise his pulse this much.

He jogs after you before you totally disappear from sight, his pulse beating in tandem with each leap up the stairwell.

Is this actually happening? Are you really about to confess to him?

He knows it’s not good to make assumptions, but he can’t help it. Why else would you be so secretive, so desperate to have this conversation away from prying eyes? And he’s been making a concerted effort to flirt with you more these days. Sure, you seem to play most of it off as a joke, but he can’t blame you for that. Maybe he needs to tease you less, give you a compliment or two.

You waste no time sitting yourself down on the concrete wall, resting your back against the metal bars that reach high above your head.

Kojiro sits himself down next to you, putting just a little distance between you. He can’t be brash – he won’t ruin this.  

The two of you sit in silence for a long moment as you chew your bottom lip, an expression of pure disconcertion on your face. Kojiro just watches you quietly with a gentle smile on his face.

He could get used to this side of you.  

“God, this is so embarrassing,” you groan, finally breaking your silence as you run a hand through your hair.

“Take your time,” Kojiro smiles, unsure as to how much longer he can hold out.

You close your eyes, cheeks flushed and fists clenched in your lap.

Maybe he should just take charge and put you ou—

“Do you know is Kaoru’s got a crush on anyone?”

Wait, what?

“Kaoru!?” Kojiro stares at you, mouth hanging open and heart dropping to his stomach. It’s too late for him to mitigate his reaction. He could only hope you’d read it as a joke.

“Yeah?” You raise an eyebrow at him, a hint of hesitation in your voice. “What’s the matter?”

“Please don’t tell me you’ve got a thing for him,” he scoffs, running a hand through his hair. He’s running on instinct, not even bothering to hide the scowl marring his face.

Kaoru? Kaoru? You brought him up here to talk about Kaoru?

“Don’t be rude!” You whine, kicking his shin with your foot. Kojiro barely feels it.

But it’s enough of an answer.

It’s strange. He can’t quite describe what he’s feeling as melancholy. Even shock seems too severe. But he’s feeling something, something new, something palpable, something he doesn’t know how to untangle.

Disappointment? Regret? Pain? No, those all sound too extreme. This sadness is milder, but he already knows it will be more persistent. The mundanity makes it worse; it’s an ache, not a sting. And an ache always leaves a ghost behind, a phantom of pain you can never predict.

“What, do you have a thing for pretty boys then?” Kojiro sighs, leaning back on his palms.

You punch him in the arm. It doesn’t hurt.

He doesn’t respond to that, instead turning his attention to his shoes. You’re quiet for a long moment, fiddling your thumbs together. He probably shouldn’t find it cute, but he does. Fuck.

“I just think he’s cool,” you mumble, looking up at the sky.

“It’s the lip ring, isn’t it?”

You stick your tongue out at him and scrunch up your nose. “No. I liked him before I knew he had that dumb lip ring.”

It’s been that long?

Kojiro swallows, his thoughts crossing over each other and muddling together in his head.

How could he have gotten it so wrong? Sure, you’d been friends for ages, so any affection between you was natural. But Kojiro had felt that something new had been brewing, something that’d transform whatever existed before.

But nope. He’s just a fucking idiot.

“I have no idea if he’s into anyone,” Kojiro sighs, looking up at the sky.

It’s a nice day. Clear, but not too bright. Perfect conditions for skating.

Ironically enough, it feels the kind of day nobody would expect to get their heart broken on. You haven’t even rejected him – not directly – but that somehow makes it worse. If you’d turned him down, that’d be fine. The two of you could work past it.

But no. You had to go and have feelings for Kaoru.

Is it because he’s smarter? Because he seems like the kind of guy who’ll grow up rich? Or do you just have a thing for longer hair? Or maybe you like that cool, collected type.

It’s useless to speculate. It’s not like he’s going to change himself – and he doesn’t want to. It’s dumb. He’s dumb. He just wants to go to the dock and practice. Slam his board against a few walls and work his frustration out.

“I can ask him, if you want,” he says. That, more than anything, felt like accepting defeat.

“Don’t do that,” you whine, “that’s so… childish.”

“Well are you gonna ask him yourself?” He snorts. He’s trying to play it off. Trying to keep you in the dark.

Your cheeks burn once more, but now Kojiro finds them painful to look at.

“No,” you shake your head. “I mean, I’ve been dropping hints, but I don’t think he’s noticed…”

“He’s not good at picking up on that sort of thing,” Kojiro shrugs. The conversation is so casual it’s almost as if he didn’t feel like someone had stuck their hand into his guts and messed them around.

The last thing he wants to do is advise you on how to woo Kaoru of all people. He’s not a masochist.

But you’re his friend. You have been for so, so long. You trust him with this. That meant something, right? It’d be pretty lame of him to brush you off, wouldn’t it?

It’s fine, Kojiro tells himself. It’s fine.

Other girls have shown interest in him. It’s not like he’s undesirable – he could definitely get a girlfriend if he tried. He knows that. And hey, if the two of you had become romantically involved, that’d probably just complicate things.

This is for the best.

This pain in his chest, this discomfort rooting itself through his gut… it will pass.

Kojiro tries to smile, but he can’t make it reach his eyes.

For character ask game, can I ask Cherry (from sk8) or Kazuki (from Buddy Daddies)? Sorry, Kiya, I can't choose either one, feel free if you want to pick either one or both....

I'm gonna do Kaoru for this one! I desperately need to do a rewatch of Buddy Daddies.

My first impression: When I first saw Kaoru he immediately got a "Oh, he is about that ✨️elegance✨️" from me.

My impression now: He is one of my favorite pink characters, for sure!

Favorite thing about that character: I love that Kaoru is both a serious character, but he's also just as silly as the rest of the cast. There's a good balance there to me that I just admire. Also, his skate persona is just *chef's kiss*. (Reki's in my favorite.)

Least favorite thing: ADAM DID NOT HAVE TO DO MY MAN LIKE THAT!! IT'S ONE OF MY LEAST FAVORITE THINGS THAT HAD HAPPENED!!

Favorite line/scene: It has to go to one of the few scenes Kaoru doesn't actually talk. Beach episode, when Miya came up to Kojiro pretending Kojiro was his dad and he mentions how "his mom would get mom mad" and Kojiro looks over and we get this shot of Kaoru just laying there looking all pretty and relaxed and just Kojiro just stares before realizing who that was. Gets me every single time! 😆 And I'll also mention the line Kaoru says during one of the "up next" segments where he goes "I AM NOT YOUR MAMA BOY".

Favorite interaction that character has with another: I love how he interacts with the others, but you know I gotta say Kojiro. Their banter is too funny but if I had to say what interaction they had is my favorite is when they were at Kojiro's restaurant and after drinking, Kaoru went to sleep and Kojiro just pours himself and Kaoru and talks about how they're not alone and the look he has is just so... that whole scene is just so soft!! 😭

A character that I wish that character would interact with more: Oooh, other than the kids and Shadow, I actually would love to see more with him and CARLA. And I mean, I need to see a prequel or something of Kaoru making CARLA, the trials and errors, deciding her look and voice, etc.

Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character: Sesshomaru, from Inuyasha, comes to mind. Long haired, gorgeous men who are both elegant with a streak of being shady? They would be frenemies, maybe.

A headcanon about that character: Kaoru definitely have those nights where he just relaxes with a face mask on and soaking in a bubble bath. Then he'll watch a horror movie. I don't know why, but I headcanon that Kaoru would watch horror movies.

A song that reminds of that character: I was listening to SF6 themes and Juri's theme ÅrachniD** reminds me of Kaoru. It has this electric feel to it that reminds me of his tech savvy trait. Feels like that could be his skate persona theme.

An unpopular opinion about that character: Hm... I don't think I actually have one for Kaoru!

Favorite picture: Oh my gosh! This one of him with Kojiro! Like??? HELLO?! He is serving looks here!

okay but queerplatonic matchablossom and renga (in which everyone’s aro-spec and half of them are ace-spec too)

everyone thinking matchablossom are dating and it really annoys them but they ignore it because explaining their actual relationship would be far too complicated

reki and langa closer than best friends and spending all their time together because they just vibe really well, but neither ever considers being together romantically

langa accidentally letting slip he’s aroace to reki but continues talking in the hopes that reki didnt notice. reki looks it up and is confused but doesnt know how to ask

everyone (other kids at school, miya and shadow, langa’s mum, reki’s family) all giving them those looks that say “youre clearly in love but you dont know it”

someone saying “oh yeah its obvious they’re in love, I just dont know if they’re dating” which reki overhears and it makes him really uncomfortable

he knows he doesnt like langa like that and he doesnt want langa to like him that way either. but he doesnt know why its so upsetting

cherry notices reki has something bothering him and reki asks “does it make you uncomfortable when we all tease you and joe for being obliviously in love?”

cherry sighs and says yeah. people just assume two people cant have a close bond without it being romantic and/or sexual

cherry is demiromantic and demisexual, joe is frayromantic and allosexual. cherry loves Joe romantically, joes loves cherry platonically. they are very happy in their queer-platonic relationship thats a middle ground between the two, and with joe having much more short-term things with other people

cherry describes QPRs more generally, and talks a bit about the aromantic and asexual spectrums, but recommends reki should do other research and maybe talk to langa about it

so reki researches and is kinda having a crisis because aromantic kinda sounds like him and also he wishes he could just vibe with langa for his whole life and not bother with all this relationship nonsense

he eventually screws up the courage to ask langa about how he knew he was aroace and langa tells how it took several years to work it out and come to terms with it and get used to the labels cause he was basically going through it alone

reki listens to what langa says and he’s kinda holding back tears cause this is A Lot. he asks about QPRs and langa kinda goes off on a tangent about how much he wants that, and describing it

reki takes a while to process all this (and cries more because this really is A Lot). then he goes back to langa and says he thinks he might be aro (not ace tho) and that langa’s description of a QPR is what reki always subconsciously imagined his ideal relationship to be

they decide that if they need a label for their closer-than-best-friends relationship then they’ll call it QPR, but basically they’re gonna just keep vibing

tho they do now show even more affection for each other than before because they’re no longer worried the other will take it the wrong way, and honestly fuck whatever anyone else thinks

they’re skating through the near-empty park hand in hand (idc if thats dangerous, its cute) and pass by joe and cherry sitting on a bench. reki and cherry share a knowing nod and a smile
