btw i love revenge stories i dont think anyone should ever move on peacefully. a bit obsessed with the way weissman went to the synagogue and rabbi and asks, "my choices killed a child. would god take mercy on someone like me?" and the rabbi says "it's not god's mercy you should look for. its the child's" and like you think that would spur this man into charitable activities and to maybe look out for orphans but instead he goes on a 24 hour revenge bender that ultimately ends in two revenge killings and his own death. what's better than righteous anger and wrath and love twisting someone into the worst but also a truer version of themselves <3

content: kinda short but i made that email myself and it took years off my life- ITS LIKE NOT EVEN IMPORTANT TO THE PLOT WHY DID I SPEND ON HOUR MAKING THAT??? HELLO????

"im coming! stop- STOP KNOCKING IM ALMOST THERE YOU LITTLE SHITS!" percy cried through the door before swinging it open with a glare, being met with his four friends and girlfriend. piper and jason were still had there arms raised to knock more, smirking cheeky smiles at the boy who shood them inside. annabeth leaned up and pressed a kiss to the corner of his lips which eased his anger rather quickly as he wrapped an arm around her waist and led her into the apartment too.

"so, how exactly is leo and yn's relationship in jeopardy? did one of them get into another relationship or something?" frank asked with a roll of his eyes as he plopped down in one of the chairs. hazel sat down on the ground before his seat, shooting forwards and grabbing the popcorn bowl from the coffee table and setting it into her lap easily.

"yn wont believe that leo is single and wants to take her on a date until she hears it from him. because last time she kinda got her heartbroken," piper explained as she rooted around percy's pantry, walking back into the living room with a carton of goldfish held against her chest.

"hey, put those back-"

"you didn't put snacks out. terrible host," piper cut in, instantly, throwing a few more goldfish into her mouth. percy huffed out a breath and annabeth laughed as she leaned further into his side.

"anyways, back to leo and yn. so, i think we abandon yn and focus on leo. he'd be willing to believe that she'd say yes to a date with a little more persuasion, i think," jason spoke, shrugging his shoulders slightly at the thought. there was a pause as everyone thought it over, before they glanced around at each other.

"how, exactly, are we supposed to do that?" hazel piped up, only to be met with more silence.

"ugh, it'd be easier to just lock them inside a closet and let tight quarters do the rest!" annabeth groaned and there were murmurs of agreement.

"they are legit perfect for each other but i think they're honestly too stupid to see it. at least, now, the cataracts in there heart eyes for each other are starting to go away but still," noted frank, earning him a few laughs. then percy's phone buzzed on the coffee table, everyone's eyes being drawn to it.

"probably just my mom or leo yapping away about yn on his secret twitter account," percy rolled his eyes as he unwrapped his arm from annabeth and grabbed his phone.

"or maybe it's yn yapping away about leo on her secret twitter account," annabeth joked but her smile slipped off her face as percy stared at his phone in confusion then panic.

"shit. shit. shit," percy groaned before glaring and pointing over at jason, who was cleaning his glasses but he looked up as the attention turned to him.

"you've lost your rights to a credit card when we go out."

"huh?" the blonde boy questioned, his brows furrowing as he returned his glasses to his face. he had the vague thought that they might help him understand the other boy better.

"your dumb, drunk ass booked that stupid trip that we were talking about," percy groaned, holding the phone out of the boy before shoving it over to frank and the girls.

"just cancel it-" hazel tried.

"it was nonrefundable as of two am today," annabeth cut in as she read over the email, trying very hard not to laugh. it was actually rather funny simply because it wasn't happening to her.

"why the fuck two in the morning??? who is up that early, canceling trips???" percy hissed as he removed his head from his hands, glaring at the phone held his girlfriends hands.

"it's probably the same time you booked it, however long ago," reasoned annabeth with a shrug.

"we didn't even plan that trip out all the way. we mentioned it in passing, while drunk. why would you book that?" percy asked with a glare and jason rolled his eyes.

"look, you know i do weird things when im drunk. looks like were going to the beach, though, that's fun," jason replied, trying to ease percy into the trip.

"all of us? that could be cute, leo and yn getting together on the beach," hazel asked, nearly swooning at the romantic thought for her friends.

"no, they only booked for the four of the guys. it's like a massive upcharge if they find out you bring more people," clarified annabeth, continuing to read the email over for loopholes. she was finding none, which means there were none.

"wait wait, what about leo and yn? if it's gonna be a guys trip, it's just gonna drag out their whole thing which puts it at risk. yn is already not fully committed," piper cut in a panic, getting those two together being her main priority.

"well, distance makes the heart grow fonder, right?" jason offered with a weak smile, shrinking at the glare piper shot at him.

"if you ruin this, ill cut your tongue out."

"and what a glorious thing it would be too," percy teased before jolting as piper glared at him too.

"i'd cut yours out, too, fish face."

“in that lovely note, who’s ready to for a boys trip?” frank asked with a growing smile.

I sincerely don't know if Im alone on this one, so I want to know what yall think. Again, I may get some heat for this, but it’s my honest opinion.

Something I noticed in my reread is that I grew a slight dislike for lucie in chot, and as someone who had always previously rooted for her, I’m currently annoyed at myself.The thing is, Lucie IS a very privileged and sheltered girl.She was born into a wealthy, loving family and, because of her apparent “normalcy”, never suffered the brunt of the shadowhunter prejudice like Tessa and James.

None of this is a problem in itself, but my point here is that there were always other people protecting, thinking and worrying for her, so I think not only she never realized how precarious her family’s position actually was, but also has no true understanding of consequences and how the “real world” works.She knew in some level that what she was doing regarding jesse was dangerous, but was never truly afraid of repercussions, bc unconsciously she knows there will be someone to catch her . And while I do like to see a character become aware of its own privileges along the narrative, there’s no growing here.She finished the book without ever realizing it, because everything was just SO easy and convenient, and that bothers me greatly.

In all fairness, how could she? she does whatever she wants with no consequences.

I feel so conflicted bc while I actually cheered when she brought jesse back in choi, and always shipped them, I find the outcome of her actions to be low-key infuriating.Lucie wasn’t willing to give Jesse up, but also never seriously considered giving up her comfortable life to start over with him somewhere.That ludicrous and set to fail jeremy blackthorn plan wasn’t even her idea, it was the people around her finding a way to fix her “mistakes” to save all of their asses from jail.

Lucie could’ve had her marks stripped, her father could’ve lost the institute, it could’ve costed Tessa’s life.Those guys had been waiting 25 years for the slightest opportunity to pounce on her, does anyone seriously believe they wouldn’t all automatically think the warlock mother was involved? How come there was some major necromancy going on under her roof and she had no idea?  we know she didnt, but still   All of this was severely downplayed and there was little to no conflict regarding it, and anyone can correct me if im wrong, but none of that ever dawned on lucie.She never fully thought about how her family would be implicated, and nobody brought that up to her.Zero confict just chill, I guess this is our life now .Dont get me wrong, I dont want that shitstorm to actually happen,I just wanted her to become AWARE of it

 she literally brought home this complete stranger to them all (we know jesse, the characters dont) that was 8 years her senior (it doesnt matter his body was frozen for 7 years, mentally jesse is 24), Tatiana’s son, and had been dead up until last tuesday, but nobody save perhaps jessamine, and god it pains me to agree with jessamine had a problem with that.Instant acceptance, no resistance, no objections at all.All it would take for that lie to crumble would be ONE trial by the sword at any point of their lives and everybody was as chill as chicken joe from surfs up

Her fight with Cordelia pissed me off too. Lucie meddled on something she had no right and no knowledge of,and demanded things of Cordelia without even being willing to hear her out. ”oh the poor thing is suffering so much bc of you, why can’t you just take him back?” GIRL, FOR ALL SHE KNOWS, UNTIL A WEEK AGO, HOME BOY WAS SWEARING UNDYING LOVE AND BURNING DOWN MANORS FOR GRACE BLACKTHORN. 

WE know poor james was ensorcelled and fighting it, but what was cordelia supposed to think of it? How dare she assume that Cordelia “took advantage of James going to Cornwal to run away with matthew”? 

The demon of secrets in edom scene was plain ridiculous.”yo I had a childhood crush on your brother, sorry for never telling you, I was embarrassed” is not a big deal.The fact that they needed demonic intervention for THAT so late in the book baffles me

While I do think most characters were severely nerfed on this book and behaved ooc on several occasions (swear to god I have some mild ptsd from all the times cordelia ran and did unhinged things) , my conclusion about Lucie’s arc is that she took her good life for granted, endangered her entire family, didnt grow from the experience, but still got everything she wanted with no consequences or sacrifices.She lost a cousin along the way, but who cares about that guy? what was his name again? Its my understanding that Lucie never even faced a trial.Thats unrealistic and bad writing, if you ask me.When I think it over, the word that comes to me is...spoiled.

And dont get me started on the fact that she found out Malcom was planning on doing full blown necromancy and didnt do anything about it.How that had no repercussions AT ALL still blows my mind.

 The worst part for me is that I genuinely believe Lucie deserved better you know? 

If lucie and cordelia hadnt been allowed to become parabatai, and jesse had received some other minor yet life changing punishment, and we had seen a trial scene I would’ve been satisfied, because at least it wouldn’t have been nothing.

Chaol’s face looked surprisingly welcoming when Fenrys entered his bedroom’s antechamber.

“You have news from Aelin?”

Fenrys’ eyes sparkled. Straight to the point, as he liked it. “As a matter of fact, I do.”

“Did she like the gifts?”

“Well…” he picked on his nails, feigning nonchalance. “Her favorite one was a Cartier bracelet.”

“Interesting.” Chaol tilted his head, curious. “I don’t remember her following Cartier on Instagram in the research I did.”

He shrugged. “This just means someone else knows her better.”

“Your point is?”

“My point is that Aelin’s confused to why you agreed to this,” Fenrys lied. His point was actually to send these boys running, but he’d only ruin his agenda by disclosing it. “You either don’t want this, or you were definitely quick to forget about Dorian,” Fenrys not-so-subtly mentioned their scandalous affair.

The man’s face turned somber. “He was quick to forget about me too, wasn’t he?

“Wow.” Fenrys leaned on the wall, carefully trying to pick up on his cues. “So Aelin’s the next best thing, or you’re just trying to get to Dorian by chasing her?”

His jaw tightened. “Are you usually this indiscreet with people like me?”

“Not with people like you, no.” Fenrys looked at Chaol up and down, unafraid. “I’m more used to royal families, I didn’t know lords were so… touchy.”

If someone questioned him, Fenrys was just doing his job—protecting Aelin. She was currently being chased, without her consent, by two boys who, from the looks of it, were willing to marry this girl they couldn’t handle for a month when she was eighteen. Idiots, both of them.

Chaol sat on an armchair, legs crossed, but those tight eyes and flat lips failed to hide his anger. “I still don’t know why you’re here.”

To scare him away, though Fenrys was failing at that miserably. He scrambled his head for a new tactic.

“I…” he trailed, trying to buy some time. “The gifts.” Fenrys cleared his throat. “Aelin liked the Cartier bracelet better. You’re losing the gift battle.”

“And?”

“You’re actually my favorite in the courtship run, you know—“

“That’s hard to believe—“

“Shh. You are,” Fenrys lied, “I’m rooting for you. That’s why I’m suggesting you a new way to get her back, since you used to date.”

Chaol leaned back on his chair, finally interested. “Do tell.”

“Aelin likes her men with balls.”

“You don’t say.”

Fenrys narrowed his eyes at him. “Not literally.”

“What do you mean, then?”

��You could prove yourself to her in a duel.”

He’d face Dorian at the duel and give up on killing the man he loves. The shame of his surrender would send him flying back to Anielle. It was perfect. Fenrys came up with it in half a second, but it was flawless.

“A duel?! Isn’t the arranged marriage outdated enough?”

“She likes period romances.” Fenrys shrugged. “It’s the fastest way to her heart.”

“Nope.” Chaol got up, paced around his room for a second with both fists on his hands. “I’m not battling against Dorian. Not like this.”

Oh, fuck. Fenrys crossed his arms, keeping a smirk to hide his struggle. Think of something, think of something, think of something—

“Who told you the Cartier bracelet was from Dorian?”

It was, but Chaol didn’t need to know this.

The man’s eyes went wide. “Rowan,” he said in a pensive tone, low with realization. He paced a little more, frowning.

“A duel, really? That’s your best guess?”

Fenrys tsked, as if this was such a naïve question. “Do you know how often she rereads that Bridgerton book with the duel scene?”

“How often?”

“Often.”

Well, she did like Bridgerton, but Fenrys knew nothing about the series or if it had duel scenes. He was sure Chaol didn’t know either.

“Very well, then.” The man swallowed, not meeting the other’s eye. “Tell Rowan I’ll see him on Thursday at 7pm.”

“At Mala’s abandoned temple by the Florine?” Dorian asked, fiddling with his handcuffs at his own bedroom antechamber.

Fenrys gave him a curt nod, glad that he found the prince at a time no one was close to hear. “Rowan will meet you there.”

Now, it was time to tell Rowan about the two duels he had queued up.

ok im going to ramble for a minute but i think van palmer's turn towards violence is so interesting. like in the beginning, she nearly throws up just thinking about allie's broken leg. she can't watch when shauna sobs over her baby's body. but then she's one of the first to truly believe and accept that they'll end up turning to violence in order to survive - she stops and she watches shauna beat their friend and teammate and she knows. it's brutal and bloody and near deadly, but this time, she doesn’t look away.

despite her weak stomach, she's always been willing to do what she believes is necessary. to her, violence isn't intriguing or sensational or something to be celebrated - but it is something to be resorted to, one of those things she sees as an inevitability, a necessity, no matter how painful or nauseating or depressing. she’ll slap her mother awake, but first she'll call out to her. she'll hunt nat through the woods and she'll let a 14yo drown, but only because she and taissa and lottie and everyone who she cares for, they're all starving, or hurt. she will do what she believes it will take to keep herself and her loved ones alive, at least most of them, at least as many of them as possible - because, of course, she’s always tried so hard to be the protector. that's who she is, shown in a thousand little ways. she plays goalie. she tries to break up the fight between tai and shauna in the pilot and she starts to defend nat when travis is being a dickhead in bear down and she helps hold shauna back until lottie tells them not to in burial. she tries to look after tai when she sleepwalks, like how she possibly had to look after her mother for years. she jokes around and she tells the group stories, trying to keep them connected to the outside world.

i think it's interesting to see a character so solidly rooted in the idea of protection to be the one spearheading violent action. it's ironic and tragic and it makes sense, because as yellowjackets shows, over and over - care is not an inherently gentle or bloodless act!! it's van telling the others to leave her bleeding in the woods after the wolf attack and it's tying herself to tai even though she gets hurt and it's helping carry bodies onto the plane and digging graves. it's telling tai she loves her for the first time by literally writing it in her own blood.

sometimes it’s painful. sometimes it's not healthy or righteous. sometimes it’s the hard choice - putting forth the playing cards and joining the hunt and watching with grim determination as javi struggles and cries out for help, and then separating herself and the others from the choice to let him die by claiming the wilderness made it for them. reaching out and turning his face away from shauna when it’s time for the bloodletting. convincing travis to cannibalize his little brother by telling him that he owes javi this final act of love.

it's giving up retelling movies and tv shows and instead telling a different story, a quiet, cold one, because she believes the only way for them to survive out in the wilderness is to give themselves over to it fully, no matter how horrible - because, after everything, what choice does she feel she has but to persist? even in wiskayok, living was always a fight, another series of necessary actions in order to Get Through It and Get Out. after the alcoholic mother and ambiguously unmentioned father and the trials of being young and gay and butch in the suburbs of 90s new jersey, she wants a future, so badly. and after having to pull herself out of the crash and surviving the wolf attack and the pyre, after spending months watching the others around her suffer and starve and die, she can't pull out of the fight. she wouldn't even know how. like a brutal, desperate instinct, she must survive, and she must protect.

it's agonizing but she won't let herself feel it and it's endless but she can only think about the end result. it's selfish in the way they're almost all selfish and it's loving in the way they all love - but especially van, who is so deeply and fiercely protective, who has always cared so much. in the end, that protective instinct both keeps her painfully human and pushes her out into the deep end. it's the kindest and most wonderful piece of her being and it's an intense force that leads her towards brutality. because sometimes caring is the violent thing!! sometimes love is violence and violence is love!!!!

Idc where the autopsy scar came from, but I like the idea that the LOA did experiments post resurrection bc Ra's is so obsessed with immortality.

I don't hate the 'pit madness' trope, so long as it feeds on already existing emotions and it's temporary after getting out of the pit. Kind of like it's this voice at the back of his mind that is amplified and urges him to do things he would typically hesitate to do. But it's still well within his power to resist or give in.

Jason would hide non-perishables all around the manor for the first two years living there and genuinely believed he was one misstep from being kicked out the whole time

Kinda related to ^ (TW: Food issues) he has really bad issues with food insecurity. He has a habit of switching between scarfing food/binge eating, and then storing things for too long because he's afraid of running out and having empty shelves ever

Sometimes he forgets how old he is and his knee-jerk reaction is to answer "15" when someone asks

He ran a bicycle gang with other kids on the streets when he was homeless. Mostly to steal food and help each other out. But Winter typically picked them all off one by one, some would get taken into the foster system, kidnapped etc... so it didn't last.

He can't stand needles

He hated galas as a kid bc of the obvious classism, and the expectation for him to mask his 'roots', mannerisms, accents etc

of course, that didn't stop people from commenting and comparing him to the first Wayne Ward.

He could have his pockets lined with gold and still always chooses the cheapest option when he's out shopping for food/necessities. He never lets anyone else pay for him, and if for some reason someone does, he picks the cheapest thing he can find

He needs his bedroom door locked at all times

Can't sleep without a night-light, but he'd take that info to his grave

Learning to shave and drive were incredibly emotional experiences for him, because he was on his own and just really wanted Bruce to help him

He was the first to call Bruce 'Dad' normally as Robin, (aside from Damian, but he calls him 'Father' which is just different to me) and Jason had the most 'dad & son' relationship with Bruce out of all the robins. This is part of the reason he can't reconcile the Bruce he knows now, with the one he left.

He is often the only one to call Bruce 'dad' to this day, and it's more subconscious than anything. It slips when he's really emotional or drugged up and he hates himself for it

He's an angry crier (most emotions make his eyes burn)

He used to really want to get married and have kids, and some part of him still does, but he's terrified of damaging his kids bc of all his own issues and he can't imagine ever meeting someone who would put up with him

since seeing a few posts about TPB and how it treats firestar’s kittypet origins as a flaw he needs to overcome, wouldnt it be amazing if the “fire alone” prophecy was failed in some way? yes, short term, he DID save the clan, but in all the arcs following this?

yeah he’s a decent guy, but his clan immediately turns back to the status quo. sure, lionclan united to defeat tigerclan, but the relationship between wind and thunder deteriorates as soon as windclan rebellion starts. cats within his own clan, who witnessed the impact his very not-in-accordance-to-the-code actions had on defeating tigerstar. aka ONE OF THE BIGGEST TYRANTS IN RECENT CLAN MEMORY. but oh actually everyone dislikes kittypets still in tnp. dustpelt/mousefur especially love to bring up their distaste with the state of thunderclan (”too mixed”). even brambleclaw, his own apprentice, judges cats like daisy based on the fact that she isnt clanborn. it reads as thunderclan respecting firestar in spite of where he came from, instead of them appreciating a major part of his identity that they wouldnt let him forget just a few books ago? you know? getting over their biases and learning to respect others outside the clan? 

were these xenophobic ideas not utilized by tigerstar to climb maim and torture not just cats outside the code, but those who dedicated their lives to it? is that...not a sign for introspection?? 

and on a similar note: the books really want us to know that the only reason scourge was defeated was because he didnt believe in god, which is a really weird conclusion to end this arc on. we see fireheart constantly questioning the code and using his better judgement (most of the time anyway) to do what is the morally righteous thing to do. his unique outlook on clan culture saved a lot of lives. he wanted desperately to find belonging in thunderclan, but often sacrified his safety + position to save lives. but no actually the moral we’re supposed to take is “firestar became leader and proved that his soft kittypet roots couldn’t hold him down!!!” i dont know if him being born in thunderclan wouldve changed his very justice-driven personality, but maybe not being brainwashed from infancy played a factor in many of his choices in TPB.

so with these moments where firestar starts to show some of his conditioning crack through (ex: feeling horrified at the idea of cloudpaw not believing in starclan--and wanting to SHOCK him into being a believer; etc etc), is genuinely an engaging character flaw...that should be treated as a flaw. all of these standards of what a “true warrior” should be--constantly being crammed into his head from a pretty young age; against his own sense of personal identity and moral compass. does he WANT to be seen as a true warrior? does he want away with all of these redundant rules? does he want to redefine what that even means?

even in FQ he is pretty pissed to hear bluestar trying to justify an ENTIRE BRANCH OF THEIR CULTURE being axed off because no one was willing to spare territory. while that book has other issues, its still nice to see glimpses of that characterization i like slipping through. if it was an intentional internal conflict, you can take it even further. 

this is why i like to imagine that firestar’s prophecy came from whatever ancient beings sent down the po3 prophecy (i believe in oots they downright confirmed that the ancients likely sent starclan/the tribe of endless hunting the po3 prophecy decades before even mapleshade’s time). firestar may have served as the short term solution, maybe as a way to get set up the three in thunderclan. im 90% their prophecy outdates his, anyway. what was the intent of this prophecy, truly? 

was he meant to save the clan(s) from a few one and done baddies, or was something more long-term intended. if so...did he fail???

how does firestar cope with this? does he reflect? he knows about the po3 prophecy--what if he were to learn of the manipulation his kids went through by the forces he was taught to worship? ik canon firestar doesnt rlly react to the secret reveal post po3, but...in a better series...would he stand for it? how could he react, knowing that starclan targeted his very bloodline for a prophecy far older than the clans themselves? 

in a different world, would bluestar had even accepted him had it not been for the prophecy?? where would he be then? how would he fare with the knowledge that many cats he idolized when he was younger--cats he grieved for, were roped into perpetuating the unhealthy cycle of reliance both starclan and the living clans have for each other?

......is starclan even the source of the fire alone prophecy??? if not them, then who was??>?? how far did this go?? how far is starclan willing to go to get their desired outcome?

dany x daario is overhated. their relationship is enthusiastically consensual, daario makes her laugh, he's hot, and he's 100% willing to kill slavers. she gets to feel like a regular lady with a crush around him, something she's never experienced before. I like that we get to see her have a consensual and enthusiastic relationship before she goes to westeros and most likely gets with jon. if this were any other series, dany wouldve been single until jon taught her how to love and shit. instead, we see dany fall in love and have great sex with a man she desires and he doesn't fix her trauma or heal her. daario isn't a main character, he probably won't survive long enough to fight in the long night. but he's the man dany chose just like her fight against slavery is the war she chose. jon feels like fate. her fighting the Others feels like fate. daario is Choice, passionate and young and lustful Choice.

that moment when they start passionately making out and barristan pulls them apart is hilarious. a lot of the fandom acts like he's some toxic villain (for saying she should kill her enemies who are literally trying to kill her?) but I disagree. he's no more violent than any other male character. genuinely think a lot of the hate for him comes from ppl that just want him to die so dany can get with jon already and people that believe everything in dany's plot is negative. I'm not ignoring his red flags like how we know nothing about his life before he met dany but that's not unusual in dany's chapters. grrm tends to not give the characters around dany much backstory, interiority, and quite a few of them don't have much personality. daario has a lot of personality, if nothing else. all in all, I like daario x dany a lot and im rooting for daario to prove the fandom wrong

like I said before, jonerys feels like fate. they've been tied since day one. I'm interested to see how they're dynamic plays out, how they'll work together, what they're impressions will be of each other, etc. theyre both strong leaders, theyre both committed and passionate. people describe jon as the "ice" of the series a lot but he's pretty fiery too. he's got a temper (dragons temper) and a sharp wit. I think him and dany would get along really well. honestly I find their dynamic a bit more interesting in a platonic sense but im not gonna be surprised or disappointed if it's romantic. I'm desperate to see dany have a healthy and loving familial connection.

dany x aegon ... I'd be really surprised if this happened. based on what we've seen so far, I dont think dany will be romantically attracted to aegon. if he gets demanding (daario never commands her) then he's gonna be disappointed. furthermore, aegon doesn't seem to care about dany's campaign against slavery at all despite growing up in essos. I understand his priority is the Iron Throne but I would've liked to see him offer support to dany in meereen or show sympathy to her efforts or Something. that lack of sympathy or understanding will be a deal breaker. not to mention, dany wouldn't want to marry him if she believes he can continue House Targaryen. she'd encourage him to marry literally anyone else.

im so tired of this fandom minimizing wills love for mike ESPECIALLY when the van scene exist .

I simply don't understand how anyone COULDN'T be rooting for will's happiness and for him to get the boy other than they're watching the show through a heteronormative lens. milkvan are toxic, that's just fact. they're paralleled to stancy and other bad or non-endgame couples in media the duffers have stated as inspo for s4 meanwhile byler parallels canon and healthy couples in both stranger things itself and inspo media. will's love for mike is a plot point for a reason and it definitely isn't just for him to be rejected and live with the pain of your first love being your best friend. it simply just doesn't make sense with the way the narrative is written for byler not to happen, and you're literally supposed to be rooting for will, it doesn't matter than mike is "dating" el. ppl still shipped jancy when nancy was with steve and ppl still shipped jopper when joyce was with bob. ppl simply minimize will's love and byler being VERY possible for one reason: mike isn't made out to be explicitly gay/bi even tho queercoding is there, but ppl are too stupid, hence why ppl still couldn't tell if will was gay even after vol.2 dropped but can accept robin is a lesbian because she explicitly states she likes women and we see her visibly pine after vickie (vickie pining after robin too... very similar to byler/milkvan but ppl are more inclined to believe it because robin is explicitly wlw and vickie was obviously brought in as a love interest) BASICALLY if things aren't spelled out for GA members or ppl who just don't think byler will happen in general, then they dismiss it (and just give bad solutions "will can just have a random boyfriend at the end" or "will's arc is about rejection cause it's the 80s" as if the show isn't about interdimensional monsters and shit but ok) I understand the show isn't just about byler, but how is it fair that literally almost EVERY character including ones who only have 1-20 minutes of screen time are able to have romance built into their story/character BESIDES the one mlm MAIN character the entire story is centered around?

will/el/mike s2 parallel

i think everyone knows about the parallel of both el and will screaming for mike in the upside down, but i want to make a post about it because the scenes are parallels in more ways than just that

at the start of the upside down sequence in both scenes, will and el are both on the ground and the shot is aerial. i find it interesting that el’s is upside down while will’s isn’t. idk if that means something, maybe that el was actually in the real upside down while will was only having a vision. 

they both stand up and look around, and the shots are very similar. i recommend going on netflix or youtube and watching these scenes back to back. they are VERY similar and it’s easier to see when you’re actually watching it. (i’m 99% sure they happen in the same episode---s2e2)

it’s also cool how we’ve been seeing parallels between will and el since season 2, and now they’re the supernatural wonder twins of the show. (who are the only 2 characters with a connection to 001 and the ud)

anyways, el and will both start running and calling out for mike. very cute and sad tbh :(

but the parallel ends here. 

el finds her own way out of the upside down. she uses her powers and climbs out. mike wasn’t there to help her, and she got out on her own. 

meanwhile, with will...

mike breaks will out of his vision. will didn’t save himself like el, mike did. 

the mindflayer was coming after will in this scene. right before mike shows up, you can see the mindflayer coming down the stairs and getting very close to will. i can’t say for sure, but it seems like if mike hadn’t been there, the mindflayer would’ve gotten to will and carried out his plan to possess will like he did on the field. mike saved will. 

it’s not clear if it was specifically mike who snapped will out of it or if it was just external interference, but either way it doesn’t matter. the times we see will snapped out of a vision, it’s mike who breaks through to him (like at the arcade in ep 1). but im willing to bet it was mike’s voice that was enough to break through to will, since he is in love with mike. and when will is possessed and joyce, jonathan, and mike are trying to get through to him, it’s mike who gives will enough control to tap out morse code. it’s a pattern, and it’s on purpose. 

so what’s the moral of the story? el doesn’t need mike, but will does. 

i refuse to believe this doesn’t mean anything when the entire point of s4 was establishing that el doesn’t need mike anymore, but will will always need mike. we also establish that mike needs to be needed. 

so you mean to tell me mike is going to end up with the person who does not need him, when he needs to be needed, and not the person who bared their life to him and said they will always need him and are lost without him? absolutely no fucking way 

also, i want to establish once again that my point doesn’t lie with who the characters are as people, it’s with the writing. repeated visual representation of el not needing mike vs mike saving will, as well as narrative representation is meant to send the audience a message. it’s called subtext, and it’s a very real thing. that’s why jonathan saved nancy from the upside down, not steve. yes i know steve wasn’t there and couldn’t save her, but we got that plot-point & visual with jonathan, not steve. therefore making the watcher root for jancy, not stancy. 

the writers are essentially training the audience for byler becoming canon. its going to be a season 5 surprise, but it won’t be out of nowhere. cause you can rewatch the show and find things like this, and it all makes sense. 

i have a lot more to say about the writers constantly showing you how el does not need mike, but i’m gonna have to make one big master post about it because there is a LOT.

thank you so much <:) im planning on asking my friends in other periods about the shit he's said in their classes (bc i have heard from ppl i generally consider reliable sources that in addition to creepiness he's said some DISGUSTINGLY racist things in their periods). thankfully i know a lot of students are dissatisfied with him so i think i'll have some good backup, and i might be able to get some teachers i know pretty well on my side. unfortunately i'm not sure about how to get more concrete proof beyond student testimonials :(

Creepy teachers are definitely a problem at my school that is ignored and pushed under the rug, mostly because my school is so underfunded we get the worst teachers in the district and there are no other options. there have been several teachers who are widely known among the student body to be creepy, and a couple in the past few years who were found to be straight-up sexual predators on further investigation. our administration pays little to no attention to the student body or the state of facilities--for instance, we never have tampons or pads in our bathrooms (despite state requirements) and before this year there was maybe 1 working soap dispenser per bathroom (if you were lucky). our principal is a lax, ineffectual, good-old-boy-system guy who basically inherited the job from his predecessor, so definitely not much promise there :////

as a ray of hope that something in the system might actually work, though, the girl i sit next to in science is lodging a complaint about the lack of period products to the superintendent (after emailing the principal and VP THREE TIMES and getting no answer). She's finally getting a response that way, so ill ask her about what she did. she's also a part of some organization that deals with womens' health and protections in schools? so ill ask her about that and see if it can help.

my plan for right now is to gather a bunch of student testimonials, and have students and parents lodge repeated complaints about him through a line at the school. it's definitely not guaranteed to work in terms of permanent effects, but hopefully it will at least get him to stop making sex jokes ://// im really not super confident in this more anonymous method, but tbh im kinda scared about possible repercussions for myself and my friends if admin doesn't believe us, especially concerning college ://// thank you so so much for your concern and the message!! <333

I realize that mewmans and humans coming together at the end kind of makes sense. Because according to the show, mewmans were originally humans that strayed too far and ended up in another dimension by accident many years ago. 

Just made me think that the finale makes sense in a way. Mewmans were meant to come back to Earth at the end. 

It would also make sense if mewmans had been persuaded to reject magic and return to Earth dimension, to return to their ‘ancestry’. I imagine an alternative set of events, where Star and Co realize that magic caused a lot of issues and that the Mewman royal bloodline did more harm than good to both mewmans and monsters, and she persuades other mewmans and Moon to leave Mewni and come to Earth? 

And it would be a valid reason enough for Toffee to back down. Who knows, if he were to learn that mewmans and humans share the same history and saw for himself that mewmans are willing to come to earth and leave monsters’ dimension alone.

It would also connect season 1 to the rest of the show. Star spent so many days on Earth and she felt like at home there, and later on she realizes that it Was in fact, her home. It would make a nice plot twist and would feel the connections with Earth characters feel special.

And knowing that Star is a rebel princess and takes charge, not listening to her mother, it would make sense that she would decide for Moon that magic should be given to monsters instead. Moon would be against it, but Star would disagree with her. 

I dont know if it’d be a good plot point, but maybe Star would give the wand to Toffee , - mirroring the 1st season - except, unlike season 1, Toffee did not anticipate it at all, it was Star’s decision. (He spent his life plotting to get rid of magic, and suddenly he is gifted with it - What.?? ) . But given his own reasons, he refuses and expresses that he “does not trust magic”. Which is another plot twist for the main characters. The plot twist is that, Toffee hates magic Not because Mewmans possess it, but because he thinks magic | itself | is a root to the problem.

Since Toffee is a septarian, he knows personally a lot more about what happened because of magic, since he lived through several generations, so his dislike toward magic makes sense.

So, Mewmans learn that Humans are their ancestors and they want to reconnect with them and consider leaving Mewni. So from then on in the show, mewmans work | together | with monsters to do something about Magic.

* Plus starco would also look poetic in that sense that Star is a mewman and Marco is a human, and them ending up together helped Mewmans and humans come together.

But then I am not sure about destruction of magic. Toffee being potentially a former spell who blended in with monsters - im not sure about that ‘plot twist’ too. But it seems like the only potential to explain his connection with Glossaryck. So somewhere at the end, Toffee actually contributes to the main characters’ plans by persuading Glossaryck to destroy magic in an ‘alternative way’.

Glossaryck: Magic outlived itself. It’s been too long. Surely that was what you wanted, didn’t you?

Toffee: I did. Though, I believe in opportunity. That was presented by princess Star Butterfly.

Glossaryck: Huh, interesting.. Alright, the Lizard, I am sure your plans are not any less entertaining.

Toffee: You can...call me... [ *cringes* ] Toffee.

Glossaryck: Hoho? I never thought you’d accept my silly nickname. I guess saying that you never learn was a mistake after all.

Glossaryck’s philosophy would be that he goes with the flow, and follows the events that unfold before him, to achieve his goals, this is why he listens and gives them the opportunity to do things their way.

What about an idea that magic spells are not exactly “magic”, but they are real beings who were a | byproduct | of a destructive core that is magic? So when the characters aim to destroy magic, it means destroying a dangerous and destructive core of it, Not harming the sentient magical beings. So this is why the destuction of magic doesnt end up in genocide and Star destroys the source and all magic beings are not harmed.

and, at the end, before mewmans leave to earth Moon says:

Monsters: But why? You give your royal artifact to us?

Moon: Yes. We never meant to be on Mewni. We were always humans.

I enjoy dfo but some of the theorist here are kind of embarrassing. they go on about how afo is actually a big old softie and wants only thing for his family when their is no evidence for such claims. afo is a cruel man and not even yoichi was enough to make him stop his evil plans. and they want us to believe that he is willing to give up everything for his son? it's funny how they're trying to cope by saying afo is going to sacrifice himself for izuku in the end. they have bad comprehension skills and then they're going get a bit upset at the author for not putting soft dfo in the story despite their being no hints for a good dfo. he didn't bother developing a relationship with his son so I doubt he cares but good luck telling them that. im sure you can guess who I am referring too here

Although I wouldn't be mean to other people. Yes, it's funny to me how some people characterize him as softie, but they can do that, yk? It doesn't mean they have bad comprehension skills. There are tons of media there you get sudden plot twists, and characters from different fandoms which you see as identical suddenly are completely opposite in the end of the story.

I remember Hordak in She-ra - he became softiiieeeee in the end. A lot of villains became softiiiieesss in the end there actually

So who knows? Maybe these people are right and Horikoshi will reveal AFO as big ol' softie who is misunderstood by everyone. Though I don't see that happening. Right now we can only guess who is wrong here 😂 I'll root for him being sickening till the very end.

hi bestie ... im having a moment. i miss mx. i want to return to my roots (being insane about them) so ofc i have to go back to making weird aus abt them, thats how it works. so once again im mixing them with another hyperfixation of mine for my amusement, im very normal.

idk how much you know about eah, but it was a sister doll line to monster high that was significantly less successful. the gimmick was to focus on the children of fairy tale creatures instead of monsters. interestingly enough, while mh didnt really have much of a plot outside of the basic premise of "monsters attending high school" eah has a weird amount of lore. the main thing you need to know for most of this to make sense is that the characters are not simply the children of fairy tale creatures, instead they're supposed to become their parents and take their place in their stories, otherwise they will all disappear and essentially die. so the main conflict of the story is "do we follow in our parents footsteps out of fear and social pressure even if it makes us unhappy or do we follow our own desires" ANYWAY I SWEAR I AM ONLY EXPLAINING THIS FOR SOME OF WHAT IM ABT TO SAY TO MAKE SENSE JDNSBDB here is my au.

ch*ngkyun: he is cerise, daughter of little red riding hood. listen. cerise is ch*ngkyuncoded and ch*ngkyun is cerisecoded. she's always portrayed as very withdrawn but not necessarily shy. she's sort of a cool tomboy type. the big plot twist with her is that her father is the wolf, so she's part wolf. which is hilarious but also fits ch*ngkyun. im making him part furry like god intended.

j*oheon: i think he should be lizzie, daughter of the queen of hearts. its so perfect to me. lizzie is really cold and mean, which causes other people to fear her and makes her struggle to connect with people. in reality she only acts like this because she thinks it's what her mother would want her to do. deep down she's really sweet, and just doesn't want people to see past her front.

hy*ngwon: i struggled a little bit with this one but i got it. hes kitty, daughter of the cheshire cat. tbh kitty is exactly what you would expect, she's this trickster type that is always sleeping. i simply think hy*ngwon deserves to cause chaos.

m*nhyuk: he's such an easy choice. he's maddie, daughter of the mad hatter. yes eah character names are STUPID. maddie is also what you would expect, she's hashtag weird and chaotic, but also really empathetic and with a strong sense of justice. she's one of those characters that is happy with her assigned destiny but is willing to give it up if it means others can choose for themselves. i think all of that fits m*nhyuk pretty well.

k*hyun: listen. i have A VISION for him. i want him to be apple, daughter of snow white. so her whole thing is that she's this perfect princess girl who really looks forward to her happy ending and so she tries to push other people into also following their destinies, since she doesn't want them compromising hers. the thing is, despite apple's destiny being perfect on paper, it's canon that she's not romantically interested in the man she's supposed to marry in the future, which has some interesting implications. she's also genuinely nice and caring despite her flaws, and part of what motivates her is that she genuinely believes something bad will happen to them if they don't follow their destinies. and she has this really toxic relationship with her mom bc of all the expectations put on her. so she's MESSY. i think k*hyun deserves to be messy.

sh*wnu: idk why but sh*wnu gives me cedar, daughter of pinocchio vibes. she's very warm and sweet, she's one of those characters that has a lot of empathy for those with less fortunate destinies than she does. her main thing is that she can only say things that are true, so she doesn't have any control over her privacy or others. because of this she likes to paint, since that's a safe way to express herself. again idk WHY she gives me sh*wnu vibes but she does.

and ofc bonus w*nho: he is briar, daughter of sleeping beauty. briar is this extoverted and popular party girl. but she's also weirdly angsty. the main reason she's so outgoing is because she wants to live life to the fullest before being put to sleep 100 years and losing all her friends. i think w*nho deserves to have an existential crisis. briefly considered asigning ashlynn, daughter of cinderella, but i cant do that to him. hes innocent.

OK OK BUT LISTEN, CH*NGKYUN HAS DESCRIBED HIMSELF AS A LONE WOLF BEFORE SO BEING A WOLF FURRY DOES KIND OF FIT. And I can see why u'd associate him w the red riding hood character, Idk how to explain it but he just has the kind of "would wear bright red and get lost in a forest while looking for his grandma" vibe. I'm picturing him wearing one of his love killa outfits (little red riding hood but aged up and growing into a mafia boss career)

I can see j*oheon being a sort of mean girl character, I think he has the acting ability to pull it off. Sometimes in mvs he has this...mean, indifferent face on when he's playing a certain kind of role, and I think that would go rlly well w a pastel princessy aesthetic

HY*NGWON BEING THE CHESHIRE CAT'S CHILD IS SO PERFECT ACTUALLY. I can just imagine him w kitty paws in a purple costume. Also I think he has a cheshire cat smile sometimes. He deserves to cause chaos w j*oheon, they would make such a team. Mean but lonely character x chaotic and slightly evil cat companion

Also I love how we're having such an alice in wonderland theme here 😭😭. I feel like monsta x could do an alice in wonderland concept actually, but like, combined w a bdsm dungeon. Don't ask me how those 2 go together they just do. Anyway I can see m*nhyuk as the mad hatter child, I think he's actually made that comparison himself before. Or he's worn a mad hatter hat before, it's one of those 2

Also I support k*hyun being messy, deserves it. I also can see him in the role of a snow white child, he sometimes has this softcore dignified demeanor and this specific smile that goes w it. I think it would be cute to pair him w m*nhyuk as a treat, there's just smth abt ships that involve characters w opposing views and also w an orderly personality vs a chaotic one

Sh*wnu does kind of have pinocchio vibes 🤔. Like there are all the teddy bear comparisons of course (teddy bears and puppets are both technically dolls), but he also has an honest vibe. Also crying, it's so funny to me that u linked w*nho w someone who goes to sleep for 100 years, which mirrors his exit from the group 😭😭
