Since the climactic wrap up of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, which closed a chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe known as The Infinity Saga and grossed almost $2.8 billion worldwide, Marvel Studios has focused on introducing new heroes and pushing ahead with sequels of some of its top characters.
But as revealed by Kevin Feige at Marvel’s Saturday presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, the Avengers are assembling once again, with two back-to-back movies set for 2025.
And while there are many other movies that will hit before that, the studio is already moving ahead creatively with at least one of the superteam tentpoles.
Destin Daniel Cretton, who helmed last year’s Marvel hit, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has come aboard to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively reveal.
Cretton is already well ensconced in the Marvel family. In addition to directing Shang-Chi, which grossed $432 million worldwide, he has an overall deal with Marvel that he signed in the wake of Shang-Chi’s success. As part of that, he is developing, with Andrew Guest, a writer-producer on comedies such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Community, a live-action series featuring Wonder Man that he will exec produce and possibly direct an episode or more. He also has a Shang-Chi sequel in the works.
It is unclear who is writing the Kang Dynasty Avengers movie or what heroes would even make up the team’s roster for a story that helps close out Phase 6. Feige laid out a timeline that sees The Kang Dynasty arrive May 2, 2025, with another Avengers movie, Avengers: Secret Wars, hitting Nov. 7, 2025.
Kang is being played by Jonathan Majors and was introduced in one capacity in Marvel series Loki. Kang, or a version of him, will be re-introduced in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which is due out Feb. 17, 2023. Quantumania is the movie that will launch Phase 5. In Loki, Majors played Kang with the moniker He Who Remains but the actor said at Comic-Con that there are multiple Kangs and the one from Ant-Man is different from the one in Loki.
Marvel, which will wrap up Phase 4 with this November’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has been slowly hiring directors for its next batch of movies that will act as Phase 5 and Phase 6.
Marvel has confirmed to THR that Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) is directing Blade, scheduled for a Nov. 3, 2023 release; Julius Onah (Luce) is directing Captain America: New World Order, which will star Anthony Mackie as Captain America and open May 3, 2024; and Jake Schreier (Paper Towns) is directing Thunderbolts, which will close out Phase 5 with a release date of July 26, 2024.
Directing an Avengers movie is one of the most high-profile jobs. Joss Whedon helmed the first two Avengers movies — 2012’s The Avengers and 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. And Joe and Anthony Russo filmed the epic two-parter Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
The Russos have long stated they would like to helm a Secret Wars film, with most presuming they meant adapting the key comic mini-series that ran in in the mid-1980s. Marvel rarely outright adapts its stories, usually weaving several influences into a movie, even sometimes breaking from the literary sources entirely. To complicate matters, there is also a second Secret Wars, a 2015 storyline from writer Jonathan Hickman that involved the multiverse. In any case, after the panel, Feige noted to Deadline that the Russos were not involved in Secret Wars.
Cretton, who rose through the dramatic ranks with movies such as Short Term 12 and Just Mercy, is repped by WME, Pangea Media and Goodman Genow.

i dont know if youre really on tumblr anymore but im curious about what you would think of the following;
im an autistic american and ive begun working on an idea for a short film. one of the main characters is an autistic korean-american teenager who's a second generation immigrant. do you have any tips for how i could accurately depict her as an autistic asian-american? her story means a lot to me
uh, hello, long time no see! First of all, thank you for asking question although I have been inactive for such a long time. Also, I appreciate that my existence came into your mind when you were looking for the resource for your story building.
That being said, I am not sure if I can give the appropriate answer for your question; although I studied abroad for quite a while, I was never an immigrant. I went to other country alone when I was in middle school, and spent most of my time in the dorm. after graduating, I came back to Korea and got a job. Basically, my experience is far from immigrant. Still, I will give my best based on what I saw & heard about asian-american immigrant. but please make sure to cross-check with other reliable sources, too!
Usually, first generation immigrants have to spend all their energy getting used to different cultures, languages, and systems. and while doing all of that, they have to bring home the bacon as well. They are very down-to-earth and hardworking; They will not be able to make it in new country if they don't. if there are other family members-especially their kids-they have to take care of them as well. They might face problem that they would never face if they had not left. (in fact they always do.) because of tremendous amount of work they face, they may compromise less significant issues, such as um... having fun, accommodating their wants, and bonding with their family members. This may cause burnout, neglect, or over-management of their children. They may want some form of compensation-because what is the point of leaving their home country and putting all that effort if they don't get anything from it? Their way of thinking and values may be fixed where they left
Now moving on to kids' side, who may be 1.5th generation immigrant (moving in with their parents) or second generation immigrant(being born in moved in country). For 1.5th generation, they are likely to remember their homeland's culture & struggle to get used to new environment, just like their parents do. They almost always miss Korean foods, places, and friends-everything they left behind. However, they tend to adapt much faster than their parents do, which makes them help their parents' work, such as making phone calls, reading documents, helping their business. If there's younger second-generation sibling, then they have to become translator between their parents and sibling as well. As a result, they become aware of their parents' effort and sacrifice, and tend to be more mature than their age. They may also feel like they do not completely blend in as second generation do.
Second generation immigrant, however, are oblivious to their original country. They think they are American, and think their parent's home country as foreign. Unlike their parents & older siblings, Their struggle may be focused on relationship between family members, since their values are foreign to their parents, and vise versa. Katy in Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings would be perfect example of second generation immigrant.
to write about more trivial & Korean-specific, Most Korean immigrant community centers on Korean church, so Korean immigrants tend to find local Korean church although they do not actually believe in god.
Oops... it got way longer than I expected. NOW moving to autistic part.
There are quite a few parents of autistic kids deciding immigration (generally to US or Canada) to access the resources(special education, therapy, etc.) for their children. Usually they decide it as soon as the children get diagnosed, so most of them would be second generation immigrant. if they are verbal & old enough learn languages, parents would rather decide to stay because it might cause regression in their language development.
Parents are well aware of the cost of such resources in US; although it is excruciatingly expensive to access them, many parents just appreciate that they have the option in first place. In Korea, there are 192 special schools. Only 30% of students with special education needs (this does not include ones with "mild" disabilities!) attend to special school. Most of them is far from residence (approx. 30 min to 1 hr by car) because of NIMBI. People HATE building special schools because they think price of their housing would fall if such institute is near. Not only the scarceness of the resources are the struggles of parents of autistics, but there are also negative perception of disability in general(especially developmental & mental one) in Korean society & obsession to normalcy. Koreans want to be normal; not only themselves, but also others as well. They are sensitive to what and how others eat, use, wear, and act. They continuously question themselves and judge others based on their own standard of normal. Perform any strange moves then you will immediately get an attention. Same goes with parents with disabled children. Would like to talk further about this topic but let's get back to the point since I would need another tons of research to write. Anyways, for parents, as long as they have enough money to consider immigration, it's more logical to decide to move to US to get resources.
so the school part and such, you can probably write the plot based on your own experience. I expect that it won't be much different from yours. For parent-children relationship, though, Korean parents tend to consider their children as their extension. They tend to prioritize what they think is best for their children then what they actually need. Parents doubt if their children would be able to be on their own even though they actually can. This manifests as distrust of their children's decisions and actions, and this is usually the main conflict with family members.
I'm not sure if this is helpful response for your story, but hope this post helps to get some idea to some extent!

Sparks Are Gonna Fly
by KandiSheek
Tony drives the 1-California in San Francisco. The highlight of his day, every day, is sharing a smile and a nod with the hot guy that drives the 8-Bayshore. Tony has never actually talked to the guy, but he's pretty sure that they have a connection.
Then, one day, some guy picks a fight during Tony's shift and ends up cutting his bus in half. If you had asked Tony earlier, he would've said that there is no way anything positive can come from an experience like that.
Except when it turns out to be his golden opportunity to actually meet the Bayshore-hottie.

More details about Victoria Alonso's firing from Marvel Studios.
While the cause of Alonso’s termination is unclear, the sources said, the decision was made by a consortium including human resources, Disney’s legal department and multiple executives including Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman (to whom all of Marvel Studios reports). Alonso’s longtime boss and Marvel chief creative officer Kevin Feige felt mired in an impossible situation and, ultimately, did not intervene, one source added. Alonso was blindsided, another insider added.
It rubs me the wrong way that Feige did nothing, for some reason. He should've at least been the one to tell her. She's been with the company since before Iron Man.
The article goes on to say she is openly "LGBTQ", which I didn't know, (I assume L?) along with being a woman and a person of color.
Basically the VFX problems are why she was fired. Apparently Marvel would ask VFX houses to do something but not give specific instructions as to what to do, so the house would do something and then Marvel would come back and say "we don't like it, do it again." (IMO, they should pay again then.) Another site I read said this specifically referred to Ms Marvel where they DIDN'T KNOW what her powers were going to look like. (!!!)
I don't mean to defend Marvel's awful way of treating VFX artists. But it seems to me if they didn't know what they wanted the effects to look like, that's not an executive problem (she's there to make sure everything gets done as cheaply as possible and on time) it's a creative issue.
Someone needs to know what they want. Ideally it's chief creative officer--Feige. Or the "Marvel Parliament." Or at least the directors. But then I think about how "Black Widow" was pitched to directors as "go get to do your thing and then in the end we'll have a CGI fight that is already storyboarded, you don't have to do that." (Which I also thing was clearly the case for Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the pre-ordained CGI fight was the worst part. I'd rather have let Cretton do the whole thing!)
I certainly hope this helps things get better for VFX studios. But it seems to me Marve needs someone who knows visual arts as well as what is possible with CGI and how it's evolving, who can be involved in the process from the beginning.
Like, for She-Hulk the writers wrote some fun gags. And the animators just had to animate it. But what if there was more of a dialogue about what they could do, and then they could pick which gag is funniest--not just in the writing but in the visual execution, you know? It's a part of the storytelling, not an afterthought.

Trailer for Gerard Johnstone’s M3GAN (2023) [source]
From the most prolific minds in horror — James Wan, the filmmaker behind the Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring franchises, and Blumhouse, the producer of the Halloween films, The Black Phone and The Invisible Man — comes a fresh new face in terror.
M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally.  Designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma (Get Out’s Allison Williams), M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to.
When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House), Gemma’s unsure and unprepared to be a parent.  Under intense pressure at work, Gemma decides to pair her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems — a decision that will have unimaginable consequences.
Produced by Jason Blum and James Wan, M3GAN is directed by award-winning filmmaker Gerard Johnstone (Housebound), from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant, The Nun 2) based on a story by Akela Cooper and James Wan.
The film also stars Ronny Chieng (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Brian Jordan Alvarez (Will & Grace), Jen Van Epps (Cowboy Bebop), Lori Dungey (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, extended edition) and Stephane Garneau-Monten (Straight Forward).
Universal Pictures and Blumhouse present an Atomic Monster production in association with Divide/Conquer. The film’s executive producers are Allison Williams, Mark Katchur, Ryan Turek, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath.
In theatres 2023 January 13.

Simu Liu Says Shang-Chi 2 is Still Coming, But When?
Tumblr media
Marvel fans! It looks like Shang-Chi isn't going anywhere. Remember that awesome martial arts master we met in "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings"? Yeah, the one played by the super charismatic Simu Liu? Well, get ready for more, because Shang-Chi 2 is still happening! Simu Liu himself shut down rumors on social media that the sequel got cancelled. Apparently, a fan was tripping because Shang-Chi hasn't shown up in any other Marvel movies lately, and there hasn't been a peep about part two. But Liu stepped in to assure everyone that a sequel is definitely on the way. Phew! Here's the deal: Shang-Chi was a total blockbuster. We're talking record-breaking Labor Day weekend and over $430 million worldwide, even with the whole pandemic thing going on. So, a sequel was a no-brainer, and Marvel officially announced it back in December 2021. Originally, Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of the first movie, was supposed to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, the next big Avengers team-up flick. Cretton and Marvel decided to part ways on Avengers 5, and now he's back to focusing all his energy on Shang-Chi 2. This is good news for us, because Cretton clearly knows what he's doing when it comes to Shang-Chi's world. So, when can we expect Shang-Chi 2 to drop? Well, that's the million-dollar question. Liu says it'll likely be part of Phase 6 of the MCU, which means sometime between "Avengers: Kang Dynasty" (May 2026) and "Avengers: Secret Wars" (May 2027). But things can shift in the Hollywood world, so there's no official release date yet. No matter what, though, one thing's for sure: Shang-Chi is here to stay. Simu Liu is on board, the director's back in the game, and the fans are hyped. So keep your eyes peeled, because Shang-Chi is gonna be back to blow our minds (and probably some bad guys) very soon. In the meantime, you can catch up on "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" streaming on Disney+. Trust us, it's worth a rewatch! Tragedy on the Set of Marvel's "Wonder Man"
Tragedy struck the set of Marvel Studios' upcoming series "Wonder Man" on Tuesday as a crew member, identified as a rigger, died in an accident.
Tumblr media
The incident occurred at Radford Studios in Los Angeles, while the crew was working on the set.
The victim's identity and details of the accident are currently under investigation by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA).
Marvel Studios released a statement expressing their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased while pledging their full support to the investigation.
Tumblr media
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), the union representing behind-the-scenes workers, also expressed their grief and offered support to the family and colleagues of the deceased.
They emphasized their commitment to safety on set and pledged cooperation with Cal/OSHA's investigation.
They also reminded members to call the IATSE Safety Hotline if they feel unsafe on set.
Filming for "Wonder Man" had begun but was paused due to the recent SAG-AFTRA strike.
Whether the accident will further impact the production schedule remains unclear.
Some sources indicate most filming was complete, with only minor pick-ups planned.
The series, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, is directed by Destin Daniel Creton ("Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings") and written by Andrew Guest ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine").
Ben Kingsley will reprise his role as Trevor Slattery from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This heartbreaking incident once again highlights the importance of safety on set.
Our thoughts and condolences are with the victim's loved ones and colleagues during this difficult time.
