Five years since you saw him last. Two years since the death of his wife, Cassandra Baratheron and he is now finally coming home. He has travelled much, or at least that is what he says in his letters. Aemond Targaryen is a man of few words in everything but his letters to you, his dear niece who has spent the majority of her life doing no less than adoring him. Seeing him has been the thing you have spent the last month looking forward to and the day has finally come as you make your way to the courtyard.
“Ñuha rūs mandianna, look at how you’ve grown.” (my baby niece)
You hear the voice from behind you, whipping around to meet his eye. Oh, and grown you have, into your name and into your body.
You hold in your squeal of delight as you walk up to him. “I have missed you, Kepus. I didn’t think you had already arrived.” You breathe out as he takes both your hands in his and brings them up to his mouth for a kiss. You feel your cheeks flush.
“I missed you more.” He murmurs, brushing a strand of your hair out of your face. He must have noticed your blush by now.
“Tell me everything. I want to hear all about Pentos and Naarth and Lys.” You take his arm, leading him forward for a walk so you don’t have to look him in the eyes.
He smiles at how flustered you are. “You would have loved it, darling. There was so much to learn, so much history in every city.”
You listen to him with such interest as he goes on about each city, their people, their clothes. He’s pleased about how you want to hear it all. You’ve walked through the gardens twice by the time he had gotten through the bulk of it but even so, you can feel that he hasn’t told you everything.
“Tell me more, Kepus.” You beg him, never wanting to leave his side again.
“Not all things are for your ears, sweetling.”
You pout. “What do you mean?”
“You are still just a little girl in many ways.” He holds your hand, his thumb drawing small circles on your knuckles.
“I will be married soon. I won’t be a little girl after that.” A hint of emotion flashes through his eyes as you speak the words.
“I’m not so sure you’re ready for that.” He murmurs, looking at your soft hands before you yank them from his grasp.
“How should you know what i’m ready for?” He’s surprised by your sharp response. He never would have expected you to use such a tone with him.
“Because I know you.”
“You knew me. We have not seen one another for years.” There’s hurt in your voice, in your eyes.
“I had a wife to attend to… a child.”
Both who are now dead.
“A woman grown would be able to understand that.” He says, patronizing you.
“I do understand that.” There’s such jealousy in your voice. You just want to be seen by him, in a way that is different from a little girl who is only now slightly less little.
“You have flowered, yes and you have gotten so beautiful but your petulance has yet to escape you.” He speaks so tenderly as he lifts your chin to force you to look in his eye, but you find his words cruel.
“I’m not petulant.” You protest, pulling your face from his hand. You hate his gentle touches when he’s being mean.
“A well-mannered girl wouldn’t speak to her uncle the way you do.”
“I am well-mannered, just not a pushover.” You say back to him.
“If that were true, you wouldn’t have looked at a man on his wedding day the way you looked at me.” It stings when he says it. You didn’t even realize he noticed the way you gazed at him when he said his vows, all your longing wrapped up in a single look.
“Will you truly hold me to a look I gave you five years ago?” You want to scoff or say something mean but you hold your tongue instead.
“I was too old for you then.” He sympathizes. You didn’t even realize he knew. Men aren’t unusually so perceptive, especially ones who are barely twenty years old.
“Eight years isn’t so long. Daemon and my mother are sixteen years apart.” You murmur, knowing there’s no point in pretending.
“Her Grace wasn’t twelve when she married him.”
“Lots of girls get married at twelve.” You think of your grandmother who married even younger.
“Yes, lots of girls do get married at twelve… and then they die in childbirth at thirteen.” He states seriously. Aemond has little interest in fucking children, whether they have bled or not. “It was not because I did not like you, mandianna.” He reaches for you again to bring you demeaning comfort that you do not want.
“Stop touching me.”
“I didn’t know it would hurt you so. I had assumed it would pass.” He knows you still yearn for him.
“You think I still desire you? I want a man who will treat me like a woman, not a babe!” You’re angry and humiliated and you lash out, wanting that childhood crush to finally die, because that’s all it could have possibly been, frivolous and childish.
“I apologize. I should not have assumed.” You know he’s saying it just to calm you because a man like him is not so stupid, just arrogant enough to think he could never be wrong.
“I don’t want your purportless apologies.” You say with venom.
He sighs. “Then allow me to give you the gifts I brought for you-”
“You wish to distract me with trinkets?”
He isn’t too sure of what to say. You were much meeker as a girl, easily won over with pretty things and kind words. You’re more confident now… more Targaryen.
“I just do not wish to argue when it’s been so long since I saw you last.”
“And whose fault is that? You’ve had two years to see me… I’m starting to think it’s now too late.”
And with that, you stomp off, leaving Aemond dazed and confused… and slightly impressed. Maybe you aren’t just a little girl anymore.

______
For the last four years, all her sisters had spoken about was Prince Aemond Targaryen. She knew that he was to choose one of them, as agreed between the king and her father, Borros Baratheon − military intent for marriage seemed for him the right price. On the day when all the findings were confirmed he came to her, took her cheeks in his rough hands and began to speak.
“One of your elder sisters will marry Prince Aemond in a few years. But not you. I want you to stay with me." He said, kissing her forehead.
She didn't understand what he meant then, and she felt humiliated to think that perhaps he thought that she was missing something. Only after a few years did she realize that her father treated her differently than them.
Cassandra, Maris, Ellyn and Floris loved to sew, sing, play instruments, read poetry. They resembled her mother, whom she barely remembered.
Her father once told her that she reminded him of his younger sister, who died when he was only fifteen. Although, unlike her father, she could and liked to read, she went hunting with him as well, Borros watched from a distance as his son and heir, Royce, taught her swordsmanship and archery. Her father decided that she was of Baratheon blood, not her mother's, and that marriage would destroy her.
She accepted the idea that her father had other plans for her, watching her sisters, thinking that she was no match for them in maturity and beauty, their hips and breasts full, their curves graceful.
She, as the youngest of the siblings, was much smaller, her cleavage was not so plentiful, her hips were not so wide, she didn't seem fully female standing next to them, and she was glad that her father had let her escape this humiliation.
On the day Prince Aemond was to make his choice, a great storm broke out. She thought, as she and her brother walked out to the back of their fortress, that this was a bad omen from the gods.
They both flinched as they heard a monstrous, loud roar in the distance, they thought for a moment that a huge dark cloud was approaching them, and then they saw a huge beast appearing from the sky, circling above their stronghold. She felt her heart pounding in terror, shivers run down her spine.
"Do not think about it." Royce shouted at her, throwing his sheathed sword at her.
She grabbed it on the fly, her hair wet, strands stuck to her face; they often practiced in the rain and with how tense things were inside their castle, they both decided to run away and wait until it was all over.
She smiled at him, pale, drawing her sword. They slashed their blades again and again with a loud clang of steel, turning around, trying different positions. Their movements weren't fast or brutal, both of them practicing proper posture and stamina.
Though she knew that it wouldn't make sense in King's Landing, in Storm's End no one asked why Borros Baratheon's daughter practiced hand-to-hand combat.
It seemed obvious.
War has been in the blood of their family for generations.
It almost always rained in Storm's End, and when it didn't, it was usually cloudy, she was used to the fact that whenever she went outside she was all wet, and although her sisters rarely left the fortress for fear of getting sick, she only strengthened her immunity and such conditions did not impress her anymore.
She and her brother both flinched and backed away from each other when they heard a guard run down to them, shouting something at them, she had to listen carefully to understand what he was saying, as he repeated his words.
"Your father orders you to return to the keep immediately, my lady." He said, in the background of his words thunder and loud, rushing rain, she looked at her brother, but he just nodded for her to go.
"It's probably over." He said, obviously wanting to reassure her.
She followed the guard down the corridor, through the cold, stone walls of her keep, trying to keep her composure, feeling her heart pounding hard.
Which one did he choose?
Ellyn, she thought.
She had a charming smile and pleasant curves, bright eyes and ease of speech, she knew that Ellyn desired this marriage and she hoped that the prince would be kind to her sister once he was her husband.
She followed the guard into the great hall and saw her father sitting on the lord's throne, stroking his chin uneasily, her four sisters were scowling at her, grim, she sensed that something was wrong.
She turned her gaze a little to the side and then she saw him.
He was standing in a long, unbuttoned leather coat, resting his weight on one leg, saying something to her sister, but he turned to her when he heard her footsteps, the dagger and sword strapped to his belt.
She saw that famous scar and black eyepatch, his long, white hair partly tied back, there was something terrifying about him, she thought, in that animalistic, menacing look.
She felt the raindrops falling down her cheeks onto the floor, she had the impression that they would soon evaporate from the heat that she felt in her body, at first she didn't even hear her father speaking to her, unable to look away from his face, she turned to him when she heard him say her name.
“This is my youngest daughter, my prince. As I said, I felt that she was not properly prepared to fulfill her responsibilities as your wife." He said briefly, she heard impatience in her father's voice, but also something else.
Fear.
Prince Aemond didn't even glance at him as he spoke, he stared at her intensely, his lips pressed into a thin line.
"I will decide that, Lord Baratheon. Wasn't that the deal?" He asked, and that was the first time when she heard his voice.
Cold, low, slightly taunting.
She felt her hands shaking and swallowed softly, only now feeling her throat tighten, she didn't know where to look.
She saw him avert his eye from her and walk slowly, unhurriedly toward Cassandra. She looked away immediately, red and horrified, when she saw that he had kissed her, her sister gasped.
When she glanced at him out of the corner of her eye, she saw that he released her without giving her a single glance and walked over to Maris.
She saw him repeat the same gesture and felt tears well up in her eyes. She looked up at the ceiling of the great hall that she was standing in, where she had played all her childhood and prayed to the gods that he wouldn't do this to her.
When she heard him walking slowly towards her she didn't look at him, felt his large, cold hand grab her cheeks, forcing her to turn her face towards him. Involuntarily she drew a shuddering breath into her lungs, letting out a soft sigh, her eyes looking pleadingly at him, her mouth slightly parted in shock and fear.
His face showed absolutely nothing.
She felt him move closer to her, but hesitated for a second as she shivered all over, felt his small gesture, how quickly, almost imperceptibly his thumb squeezed and wiped her cheek, as if to soothe her, comfort her.
She looked at him again then and his lips were on hers, pressed against hers in a sticky, warm kiss, she closed her eyes and thought that it wasn't unpleasant, he smelled like smoke and rain.
She didn't purse her lips against him, but she didn't kiss him back either, she thought that he was about to break away from her as he had from her sisters, and she waited patiently, knowing that the end would come soon.
She stifled a guttural groan as his hand closed over her cheeks and he kissed her deeper, more hungrily, sending shivers down her spine.
Involuntarily she put a hand on his shoulder, as if she was both looking for support and wanting to push him away, she flinched as he let out an almost inaudible grunt when she touched him.
He pulled away from her with a wet click and she looked down, red with embarrassment. He didn't let go of her cheeks and was silent for a moment.
"Her." He said suddenly, her heart stopped.
She looked at her father in horror, but she couldn't get the words out of her throat, she heard Ellyn sob loudly, burying her face in her hands.
She thought that it was impossible.
Her father seemed as shocked as she was.
"…as I was saying, my prince…" He began, but Prince Aemond let go of her face, turning tensely as he walked slowly towards the entrance, without glancing at her once more.
"I have decided." He said loudly, coldly, leaving through the main door, outside the windows they heard a loud thunder, which shook the fortress.
She heard her heart pounding loudly, didn't even know when tears were streaming down her face as she slid helplessly to her knees, trying to catch her breath.
She heard her sisters sobbing, Cassandra came over to her, pushing her angrily so that she collapsed on the stone floor.
"How dare you touch him?! He's a prince!” She screamed, possessed by humiliation and pain.
"Enough!" Their father shouted, rising from his throne, running his hand across his face.
"All of you, go to your chambers. Now!" He shouted impatiently, dismissing them with his hand.
She stood up, but she felt her body moving on its own, her mind leaving her loins and drifting away, as she walked down the corridor she met her brother who was speaking to her, apparently asking her a question, but she moved past him, heading for her chamber, closing the door behind her. She slid down, sitting on the floor and pulled her knees up to her chin.
She felt her whole body tremble in convulsions as if she had a fever, she tried to tell herself that it was all a dream, but then she felt his fleshy, full lips on hers again, his hand cupping her jaw, his thumb brushing over her face imperceptibly.
Her stomach tightened at the thought, terrified that she liked this feeling.
They had all been humiliated by him, but especially her sisters.
She thought that they would never forgive her.
They'd wasted years of their lives, preparing to be married to the man who stole their first kisses and then chose their sister who wasn't even considered.
She wondered why he did it? What drove him?
She wasn't even wearing a gown, didn't have her hair combed, didn't look like a woman, a highborn lady.
She thought that he was mocking them and her, that it was his cruel joke, a punishment for the king and queen for forcing him to marry against his will.
Her sisters pretended that she didn't exist for the next few days, when she came to join them during supper, they got up from the table and left.
Her brother comforted her by saying that they were taking it out on her for their misfortune, but she didn't feel better.
All nights since he chose her she cried, burying her face in the pillow.
Her father had no words of comfort for her either. Even though she knew he wanted to, he couldn't keep his promise to refuse him. He hadn't expected this turn of events and was furious, but breaking the agreement with the crown was out of the question.
She wouldn't even dare to ask him to do it.
The prospect of marriage and wedding night left her in a state of constant shock, she knew nothing about these things, and her sisters wouldn't tell her even if she wanted to, her mother was dead and she couldn't ask anyone what it looked like, what she should do, how to behave.
She thought that it would all be a series of endless humiliation.
After a few weeks, Lord Baratheon received a letter from the queen, informing him of the expected date of the nuptials. She was to arrive in King's Landing in the next few days, to properly prepare for the ceremony and acclimate.
She wanted to vomit at the thought.
Her father then hugged her tightly as he had when she was a small child.
He was a big, aggressive, sometimes even boorish man, but she had never known another lord who loved his children so dearily.
"You are of House Baratheon. Nobody will break you." He said, taking her face in his hands and kissing the top of her head, she pursed her lips at his words, not letting tears leave the corners of her eyes until she heard him disappear behind the door.
The night before she left for the Red Keep she couldn't sleep. Her sisters still didn't speak to her, but she and Cassandra always had the closest and warmest relationship. She needed the advice and comfort of another woman.
She took her candle in her hand and walked down the corridor towards her chamber. She opened the door, peering inside timidly, her sister frowned at her, confused.
"What is it?" She asked coldly.
She swallowed softly at the tone of her voice and closed the door behind her, walking slowly to her bed, sitting on the edge of it without looking at her. There was silence between them for a moment.
"I'm scared." She said, her lips quivering hard, her eyes were already red from crying, but she felt tears welling up again under her eyelids, heard her eldest sister shift uneasily under her covers.
"Please, tell me what to expect." She whispered, looking at her pleadingly, her sister stared at her dispassionately.
"Pain."
She swallowed softly, terrified, the way she said the word sent shivers down her spine.
"What do you mean?" She asked softly, her voice trembling at the very end of the question, betraying her desperation and fear.
Cassandra looked at her for a long time before answering.
“You have a duty to fulfill. You must give the prince an heir. This is your only task. Do you know how this act looks like?" She asked, and her younger sister shook her head quickly, looking down in embarrassment.
“The man lies on top of you, between your thighs. He inserts a part of his body into you, from which fluid will flow out, thanks to which you will be able to bear his child. With any luck, he won't tear you apart from the inside." She said indifferently, her face proud, her eyes cold.
She swallowed hard, feeling her whole body tremble, what she was saying sounded terrifying, foreign and painful, she couldn't imagine anyone putting anything inside her body. She clenched her hands on her knees.
"Does it hurt a lot?" She mumbled, feeling herself shiver all over, her sister exhaled loudly through her nose.
"They say the pain is indescribable."
She nodded, swallowing softly, thinking that perhaps this would be some kind of punishment for taking away from her sisters what they wanted.
She decided that she would accept what was about to happen with the greatest dignity as she left her chamber without a word.
That night she did not fall sleep.
The next morning everything was ready and her ship was waiting to take her to King's Landing. She threw herself into her brother's arms, for the first time in her life she saw him cry.
"I'm so sorry." He whispered into her ear, squeezing her tightly, his stubble scratching her cheeks pleasantly as usual, she stroked his hair, closing her eyes.
"Don't worry." She whispered, breaking away from him.
Then her father approached her, also unable to refrain from an affectionate gesture, he kissed her cheek and pulled away from her, pressing his lips together.
She knew that if he could, he would have kept her.
She looked at her sisters who were standing in the distance, only Ellyn rushed to her, bursting into sobs and hugged her tightly. She embraced her, and walked up the long plank, to the deck of her ship.
The journey wasn’t long, but it still felt like an eternity for her. She felt great tension, terror and fear, Cassandra’s words rang in her ears, filling her with anxiety.
When they finally arrived, a man who looked like a knight was waiting for her, she recognized him as Ser Criston Cole, she had seen him fight in royal tournaments more than once. He bowed to her, giving her a calm, gentle smile.
"My lady. Welcome to King's Landing."

science experiment is my new favorite, dear lord it’s incredible
"We might have a problem, Alfie," Dick sing-songed as he leaned against the wall where Alfred was making sure the outdoor shenanigans that were serving as "training" today didn't get out of hand.
The butler glanced up to where Jason kept watching you, almost hovering near you. But trying to make it look like he wasn't. "So far as I'm concerned, it looks like the opposite of a problem."
"Maybe," Dick mused.
"How much did he see? Last night, I mean?"
"The aftermath," Dick sighed. "Mud, blood, tears, and snot."
"Oh dear," he tutted. "Master Bruce told me that he found Jason tending to the wounds on her hands and feet this morning. And that he seemed... almost like his old self."
Dick nodded to where you'd made your way over to Cass, the newest addition and offered to be on her "team". Cass wasn't a big talker- she could hardly speak at all- but. Thanks to your empathic quirk, neither of you really needed to talk to team up. And it hadn't taken Cass long to figure that out. OR to figure out that you were physically not very durable. Still. The smiles and the fist bump said it all. "Do we have extra hydration packs on hand?" he asked.
"Always," Alfred said. Reasonably, no one expected you to participate. And no one pulled punches when you did. But- watching you laugh with the other girls when Dick jogged over to even it up properly... well. Maybe, you could get a couple nights of decent sleep.
Bruce strode out onto the lawn and dropped into a chair with a grunt. "How's it going?" he asked.
"Swimmingly," Alfred said, pouring cold drinks and making sure that yours had the specific blend of things that had been prescribed to you in your bottle. "Miss Y/N and Miss Cassandra have been working out some things they can utilize in the field and the others have been enjoying creating chaos to facilitate that."
"Hn."
"And Jason has been hovering like a mother hen," Alfred chuckled.
"So much for not having a crush," Bruce hummed. "How is Y/N holding up?"
"Tiring out, I think. But they've been doing what they can to keep her from having to over-exert herself- after all. It's not like we need to know what the upper limits are."
"Fair-" But before he can finish asking for specifics, you waver on your feet halfway through a strategy you'd been working out with Cass. But before you crumple, Jason is right behind you. Picking you up against his chest.
His face burning as he murmured something against your flustered protests. You radiated flustered embarrassment. And he deposited you in a chair carefully. "It probably would have worked," he muttered, "Dick and Steph talk too much."
You nod and accept the proffered water bottle awkwardly and take a drink, "Thanks."
"What were you trying to do?" Bruce asked? He hadn't SEEN Cass, but that didn't mean anything.
"Lead her into the best position for a sneak attack using my location with emotional resonance... since I can make the people feel things we were playing hot and cold. So I was picking up on where she was and kinda leading her to where she needed to be as we were wandering around."
"Hn." Bruce nodded. Considering that. He'd THOUGHT about using that as a strategy before. You did possess the ability to hone in on people you knew well-
"You okay?" Jason asked, breaking into his thoughts.
"Fine," you murmur, rolling your water bottle between your hands and looking down. Taking a few deep breaths to shove all your emotions back under control as the others lope back up from the grass for drinks and snacks. Cass sat on the arm of your chair and thudded her head gently on your shoulder. Smiling a little when you lean your head on hers.
Bruce watches the little exchange with bemusement and nods to himself. It made sense. Cass had few words and you could make yourself understood without it. But0 he did wonder, as he watched Jason watch it all happen, how he felt about it.

hii! Idk if your still doing requests (outside of kinktober), but would you be able to do the arcane milfs w a shy fem s/o? Like she gets flustered easily and things like that. If not that’s completely ok. Thank you and love your writing 💓💓
Arcane milfs with a shy S/O
Tumblr media
SEVIKA thinks your shy demeanor is quite adorable, actually. She loves the way you blush whenever she compliments you or how embarrassed you get when she teases you. She also doesn't mind the contrast between you two, with her being a very blunt and shameless person, meanwhile you are the complete opposite. Teases you all the time and makes sure to get extra affectionate with you just to hear your shy giggles. Often gently pinches your cheeks whenever you're blushing and never fails to point out how the tips of your ears have gotten red.
''What was that, cutie? You're gonna have to speak up, I can't hear you when you're mumbling to yourself. Look at me and tell me what you need, okay? Good girl. Hmm, is that a blush I see? No, no, don't try to hide that pretty face of yours, you know I love seeing the effect my words have on you, babygirl.''
Tumblr media
GRAYSON doesn't mind your shyness at all. In fact, it makes you all the more sweeter and cuter to her. Won't tease you too much and always likes to make sure you're feeling comfortable and safe whenever you're around her. Chuckles every time that your face reddens after she flirts or compliments you. This happens often as Grayson is huge on praise. You're her sweet girl, and although she appreciates your humble nature, she never fails to praise you and admire the embarrassed but grateful 'thank you' that you give her each time. Grayson really appreciates it when you try to express your love towards her despite your shy nature, she always feels grateful for the effort you put into your relationship.
''Oh, darling, you look so beautiful today. Ah, there's that blushing face I've missed. I'm sorry that we couldn't meet up lately, work has been driving me insane, to be completely honest with you. But enough about that, I'm here with the most charming girl in the world and I intend to wholly enjoy our date. Don't look away now, sweetheart, I want to see your cute face. I have missed it a lot, you know?''
Tumblr media
Although CASSANDRA would like for you to put yourself out there more, she finds your shyness surprisingly charming. She likes seeing the effect her words and actions have on you. You're her weak spot and everyone knows that even if she tries to hide it. She just can't say no to you and loves spoiling you whenever she has the opportunity. The way in which you stumble over your words when she shows you any physical affection is especially endearing to her. Behind closed doors, Cassandra is a very touchy and caring partner who only wishes for you to feel comfortable and loved. This can sometimes surprise you, especially when compared to her reserved and strict public persona.
''Come here, my darling, I want you to try on these earrings. Ah, just as I thought, they match your gentle and endearing beauty perfectly. No looking away, let me see those pretty eyes. Good girl, you always listen to me so well, it's why you deserve these gifts in the first place. I especially like the way the color of the earrings accentuates the blush on your face. I only jest, my love, but it does suit you quite well.''
Tumblr media
AMBESSA likes the way you react to her advances. Although she prefers upfront and alluring people, she cannot deny the charm that you posses. The way that your eyes sparkle and lips part in awe of her words and actions is like a drug to her. She could study and challenge your reactions for eternity. Another partner who loves teasing you and often pushes your boundaries. However, it is never her intention to make you feel uncomfortable, this is simply her way of showing her affection and love for you. She hates hiding her feelings and would never have you guessing on where you stand with her. Ambessa always reassures you and makes you feel protected.
''Ah, it appears that you caught me staring once again, my darling, I simply can't get enough of you. I wonder if you taste as sweet as you look... Relax, I am only joking, but I certainly wouldn't mind testing that theory, would you? Use your words, sweetheart. Good, come here then, let me savor that cute blush of yours.''
a/n: phew this one has been requested quite a lot so i hope you all enjoy :D

There have been a lot of negative posts about how this season turned out bc of the rat grinders exclusively and everyone is entitled to their opinions on the season. But in light of it, I’m gonna throw out some positives about this season 💖
Sophomore year will always hold a special place in my heart because of the Fabian arc but Junior year might be my favorite fantasy high season overall. I loved learning about Ankarna and Cassandra. I thought I’d be bummed out not seeing some of my fave npcs but the downtime mechanic and the stress tokens added sO much. The Porter & Jace reveal was incredible. KRISTEN’S CAMPAIGN ARC!!! Fabian and Mazey!? K2 and all the blimey shenanigans 👏 Everything with Wanda Childa and Ruben and fig’s complicated women podcast was sooooo funny. I genuinely laughed harder this season than I have with any other d20 season I’ve seen.
I feel like with this season they really hit their stride with pacing too. It felt a lot more fluid with how we rolled into combat most of the time. I loved that first party of the year and seeing Adaine become the party wizard. After ep 18 it makes me love the party with the Oisin missing his shots so much more bc he got in that nasty little one liner later. I adored that the rat grinders were essentially a red herring to keep the bad kids looking elsewhere to take the heat off Porter and Jace a bit.
We didn’t see much from all of them, and we didn’t see nearly enough about Lucy, but I really loved the Rat grinders as in school rivals for the bad kids. Ruben was hands down my favorite but goddamn did I also love how much of a girlfailure Kip was. I loved seeing her rage out and I hope we get to see her really go nuts in the finale too. I really really warmed up to Mary Ann last episode with her tugging on Jace’s shirt and saying she didn’t feel good and then seeing her rage when her strawberry got destroyed. She’s so fascinating to meeee. I loved everything with Buddy and Kristen. I wish they had more scenes together. And while I’m talking about the Dawns, that entrance from Bobby Dawn as the new cleric teacher made my skin crawl in the best way. I loved Kristen calling him frumpy and sad on her teacher evaluation too- and holy shit Fig meeting Ankarna for the first time? Ankarna being the inspiration Fig needed to make music again too?
The incredible art from Cait May this season was hands down one of my FAVORITE d20 artist collabs ever. Just overall improved designs for everyone that just make so much more sense for their characters and art for new characters that made me adore them even more. Also holy shit the Porter maxi is genuinely my favorite mini that’s ever been featured on the show. I’m typically not into how the minis look in general, they always look a lil goofy to me but goddamn when they hit, they fuckin HIT.
And speaking of Porter, I really got endeared to him this season. Yeah he turned out evil and always has been a dick to gorgug and is definitely a shit teacher, but before the reveal I loved his training with Fig and Zara. One thing about Fantasy high is that I just love a lot of the teachers. My two faves this season being Terpsichore and Henry! They’re both so dedicated to their students and are such a specific type of teacher that you’ve definitely met before in real life. Like all my favorite math teachers back in school were so much like Henry and that made me love him even more.
Of course my #1 favorite thing about the world of Spyre is the religion aspect and how Brennan and Ally both approach it. That scene with Ally connecting with Yolanda and Lucy to allow them some comfort in the afterlife was so beautiful. Kristen’s talks with Bucky throughout the season were very touching and hit very close to home as someone that grew up in a religious household and doesn’t connect with the divinity I was raised on. Just- wow wow wow. I also really love that despite the breakup, Tracker and Kristen still have really interesting convos about divinity even if they don’t agree.
I loved seeing different dynamics in the bad kids too, I love the huge sibling energy that Fabian and Adaine have and the bond that Kristen and Fig have. I love how interwoven all the bad kids feel as a group. I love the little quirks that they all have, and I loved all the fandom posts about them like the sharing clothes posts and the one about how everyone lets Riz crawl on them to get better vantage points. I love Riz’s wall of text breaking down to gorgug about how much he appreciates him. Him calling gorgug a sweetie almost made me cry. I of course love all the parent/child moments this season. I loved the bad kids finally healing Lydia and seeing how happy it made Ragh. I LOVE Aelwyn and all her cats 🤧 I loved seeing Baron again and I loved how the bad kids got to the funhouse version of mordred through riz’s briefcase. I love seeing Adaine and Sandralynn bond. I loved finding out that Sandralynn and Sklonda go out for drinks and are friends. I just 💖 and goddamn, Ayda’s message to Fig and how Zara helped to surprise Fig with it. I love how Bill and Pok are such proud dads of their boys and I hope they’re doing some bonding over drinks in the after life.
And I cannot end this post without saying that I loved how cinematic this season felt too. It had INCREDIBLE imagery that you could easily visualize. Everyone at the table was in their element this time around from a role playing and a strategic standpoint. Everyone had their moment to shine and something important to do this season that fed back into the main plot. So thank you to Brennan and the intrepid heroes for giving us another killer season. After the season ended I was planning to finish Starstruck and Neverafter but I might just rewatch Junior year all over again just to get it out of my system.
Feel free to add things you loved about Junior year!

K2 as the Epitome of Doubt
okay so there's one thing that's bothering me from this episode, BUT I think it might actually be secretly brilliant, and/or it works really well anyways the bothering thing: I do NOT get why Kristen's simulacra would have no memories or context?? According to the spell, the simulacrum keeps all the skills and abilities, so, like, it has * all of Kristen's religious knowledge (same religion skill check), * all of Kristen's understanding of the people around her (same insight skill check * all of Kristen's knowledge of history and magic (same history and arcana checks) * speaks the same languages * knows all the same spells * has the same connection to her goddess and in various official adventures (waterdeep: dragon heist, and Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden), simulacra act as almost-perfect duplicates of their originators, convincing even the people close to them e.g. party members. but on the OTHER HAND if for whatever reason, K2 does in fact, possess all of these things, than she is actually the PERFECT divine intervention for Cassandra * she has all these powers, and doesn't know where from * she knows all these things, and can't remember learning them * she's surrounded by strangers who think of her as their friend, and while she knows them intimately, understands them deeply, she shares no memories with them and then, only a few days into her existence, she is confronted by a goddess she has never seen and never met, but to whom she is bound as deeply and essentially as Kristen and she stares into the face of the goddess, and there is so much she doesn't understand there is so much mystery there is so much missing
but she knows that she would go to the ends of the world to follow this goddess, and that this goddess would move heaven and earth for her if she could and she stares into that singular truth amidst a universe she does not understand how she understands, and, in a moment where the only thing she is certain of is her connection to the goddess of uncertainty, she grasps it, in a way Kristen can't, because Kristen is too sure of too many things to rely on doubt in this moment. And she reaches out to Cassandra, and Cassandra takes her hand, and does the Most Kristen Thing A Copy Could Do she dies for her friends

Beginner's Guide to Batman (and Batman-related) Media
(based on my knowledge and the things I enjoy)
Live action Batman movies are very hit or miss. Most of them are fairly middling, but the Dark Knight Trilogy is generally pretty bad. Poor Bruce characterization, white-washing, inaccurate representations of Gotham, etc. I have several thousand words written on that trilogy, and many more on live action movies in general (all of which are accessible thru my pinned post). The Batman (2022) is pretty widely regarded as being good and accurate. It has a much more emo depiction of Bruce. A major pet peeve of mine is that I, personally, don't think it's a very good Riddler, but everything else is good.
As for shows, those are generally less accurate but more enjoyable. Gotham is not technically canon I don't think but it has better aesthetics, canon accuracy, and character design than every live action movie imo. It starts with Bruce seeing his parents' murder and goes up until he first decides to become Batman. Gotham Knights is a much more AU-style show, detailing the death of Bruce and how his adopted son (invented for the show) handles it. It also has Stephanie, Harper and Cullen Row, and Duela Dent, plus great queer rep. Heavily recommended for people who want to know more about general character personalities or who enjoy AUs. Titans has Dick, Jason, and Tim, and while I personally don't think that they did well with the characterization of the other Titans, the Robins are well-done. If you want a good idea of Dick right after he became Nightwing, you want to see Jason as Robin, or you like Tim pre-Robin, this is the show for you.
As for animated shows, the usually widely loved ones are Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, and Batman: The Animated Series. B:TAS is largely accurate to the comics at that time, though it plays a little fast and loose with the Robins (goes straight from Dick to Tim). Plus, it's the first appearance of Harley Quinn! Additionally, I enjoy The Batman (2005), though it plays with the timeline a little and targets a younger audience. Batman Beyond is amazing if you want to get into the future of Batman/Terry McGinnis universe. The accompanying movie, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker covers Tim becoming Joker Jr.
Speaking of animated movies, there are a Lot. Standouts include the Batman Unlimited movies, which are some of the only ones to include Tim. They're very futuristic, so if you enjoy AUs or the science side of Batman, these are the ones. There are a lot of AU style ones, like Gotham by Gaslight (which I personally really love but don't think is anything particularly special outside of being interesting for characters), The Doom That Came to Gotham, and Batman Ninja. Batman Ninja isn't one of my favorites, but it is very good and has general good characterization. If you want to know more about how Barbara became Oracle but you don't want to read one of the most sexist comics ever, watching the Batman: The Killing Joke movie is a good way to do it. It frames the movie from Barbara's perspective and focuses on her story. If you want to know more about Damian, Son of Batman and Batman vs Robin are good. They detail him becoming Robin and his brush with the Court of Owls. Batman: Under the Red Hood is absolutely necessary viewing for anyone who likes Jason, as it details him coming back to life and becoming the Red Hood (along with having one of the all-time most depressing lines in-context ever).
When it comes to media that doesn't have Batman in it but is Batman-affiliated, Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of Harley Quinn is a really good post-Joker pre-Ivy look at Harley, and it has Helena Bertinelli (Huntress), Dinah Lance (Black Canary), Detective Renee Montoya, and an AU-ized Cassandra Cain. The show Young Justice, particularly the first season, is a really good look at Robin!Dick in non-Bat teams, as is the animated Teen Titans. Both take slightly different routes when it comes to his personality, but both are equally good (especially if most of what you know about Robin!Dick is "holy dental hygiene, Batman!" or his vague backstory). They also both provide introductions into other team families, particularly Young Justice, so if you've just gotten into DC via Batman and want to know more about other characters, YJ is the way to go.
My personal idea of best piece of media for any character:
Bruce Wayne
Pre-Batman - Gotham
Batman: The Animated Series
Alfred Pennyworth
Batman: The Animated Series
Barbara Gordon
Batman: The Animated Series and The Killing Joke
Kate Kane
Batman: Bad Blood
Dick Grayson
As Robin - Young Justice
As Nightwing - the Son of Batman/Batman vs Robin/Batman: Bad Blood trilogy
Jason Todd
As Robin - Titans
As the Red Hood - Batman: Under the Red Hood
Tim Drake
As Robin - Batman: The Animated Series
As Red Robin - Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem/Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts
Stephanie Brown
Gotham Knights
Damian Wayne
Son of Batman/Batman vs Robin
Feel free to send an ask about a specific movie or show (or if you want a detailed list of everything a specific character has ever appeared in!) - I'm currently watching every Batman movie in existence and writing reviews literally so I can provide better recommendations to people (on part 41 rn). I will gladly provide more details about any movie or show. Also if you want to know more about specific media or what media a specific character has appeared in that is Bat-affiliated but is not a Bat, I probably have info! Anyone who's ever been a Titan, most Supers, most of the JLA, etc.
I can do another of these for comic recommendations if anyone wants bc I Do have opinions, I've just had some folks ask questions about specifically non-comic media recently!

ROTTMNT CASEY JR POST MOVIE HEADCANONS
I have not seen nearly enough content for my sweet angel baby boy so here are a few of my hcs.
PLEASE SEND IN SOME TNT REQUESTS!! I WRITE FOR LEO, DONNIE, RAPH, APRIL, CASEY, CASSANDRA, CASEY JR, AND KARAI
First off, I feel like Casey would be so stoked to find his mom. He's aware of the fact that she's not really his mom yet, and because of that, might hesitate to reach out to her, but that won't last long. He won't last two weeks. I feel like he would probably have the turtles help him out with reaching out to her, and would have them explain that her son time traveled back from the future so that she knows what's going on and has time to process before he just shows up like, "hi mom c:" He's just emotionally smart like that. I just know that Cassandra would be so excited. He moves out of the sewers and in with her, and I feel like it would be a super healing experience for him. He is an active participant in the non-girl scout girl scouts. They take turns braiding his hair, and Casandra teaches him to do makeup!
Speaking of hair and makeup, I feel like Casey would refuse to settle on one aesthetic. He had very little options when it came to clothes during the apocalypse, and most of it was for tactical and practical purposes, not style, so given the chance to experiment with his self-expression. While he'll never settle on just one style, I feel like an alt/grunge aesthetic would be one of his go-to's. He just really likes it. I feel like he would do that thing where he just covers his eyelids in black eyeshadow and just smudges it all around with his finger and calls it a day, but he really pulls it off well! A gauge earring truther. I feel like he'd also have snake bites, and various other piercings. Also has a slit in his eyebrow. I feel like his go-to hairstyle would be either a man-bun or a half-up-half-down style, just to keep it all out of his face while he's going about his day.
I can see him having Donnie tutor him so that he can get his GED. Part of him would really want to go to high school, but considering all the years he missed, he'd have a lot of catch up to do, and it just wouldn't be worth it for him. Once he gets his GED I think he would start with some community college courses, probably with a focus on engineering and humanities/political sciences.
He'd probably start off working retail and fast food jobs with April, and every time he deals with an asshole customer, he would joke about regretting saving the world because it meant that they were alive, or about having Mikey send them to the future. He doesn't mean it though, he's too sweet, he just gets pissy about how ungrateful people are when he had literally nothing his entire childhood, and grew up without tomorrow guaranteed.
I feel like as much as he loves the city, and seeing all the life within it, he loves rural landscaped even more. A real sucker for nature. I don't think there would have been much greenery around him in his childhood, so it's just one more thing that gets him all in his feels about how beautiful it is and how lucky he is to see it.

Runaway
Batfam x batsis!reader
summary: at the gala regular shenanigans with friends ensue and after bruce confronts the reader about their antics threatening to take away the mantle of batgirl
part 1 2 3 4
The manor was quiet when you woke up, Cass was also gone from the spot next to you. Retreating to your bedroom you checked your phone to see what you had missed; a few good morning texts and just a random conversation they were having in the group chat. Technically you didn’t have to do anything today until four when you had to start getting ready for the gala, going back to sleep was the best choice.
When you woke up again you decided to get ready; the black dress you were going to wear already on display, hanging on your closet door. You took your time getting ready since there was no rush and it would benefit you to be meticulous with your appearance for this event; after all it would reflect on your family. Speaking of family things looked quite tense in the moment; the group chat was dry, you couldn’t hear any noise in the manor which was uncommon since someone was almost always screaming, peeking out the window you noticed Cass’ car was gone, and most importantly you felt like you were on eggshells since Bruce would be speaking to you after the gala.
Later the ride to said event was quiet; you and Dick just sat in his car neither of you uttering a single word. This would be your first time seeing Bruce and the nerves were practically eating away at your soul like it was the last meal. Finally when you arrived your brother spoke, “Loosen up we’re about to go through the paparazzi.” As if that would do anything to help, but you knew if there was a slight insight that something was off in your expression they would have a field day. Like many times before you stepped out of the vehicle with a fake smile plastered across your face, following behind the other members of the family who had arrived. You deliberately chose to stand by Cassandra for pictures also she happened to be further away from Bruce so it was a win win situation.
It was a long line of people approaching you, pretending to be interested in your life and well-being. By the time the whole ordeal was done a bad idea had blossomed into your head to help ease the nerves and boredom. One hit wouldn’t hurt plus what’s the point of sitting through a gala if your not on something. You retreated to the safety of one of the bathrooms at the furthest end of the hall, knowing that most people didn’t bother walking this far and even if there was a line at the other ones they would still wait. Your phone buzzed and when you opened it you realized that Marie, Kim, and Jake were here. “meet in the girls bathroom at the far end.” You texted. “Should I even be in here?” Came the voice of Jake a few minutes later. “Hurry up and go in before someone notices.” Kim scolded him. “Love open up.” Marie said knocking on the stall door. The four of you crowded into the medium sized stall, thankful that there was no crack at the bottom of the door.
The thing is being with friends causing you to lose track of many things like time, the sounds of your phone, how many hits you each took, or how much you all drank out of Jakes alcohol stash. You stood in front of Marie as she had her arms around you, engulfing you in the smell of her floral perfume as you looked at Kim. She was currently arguing on how even though these events suck you all still had to be careful. Kimberly James always came prepared because she had perfume on hand and had a bottle of water. “We should have just skipped and hung out somewhere.” You said. “Y/n, your family would have your head if you didn’t show up.” Marie reminded. “Oh shit don’t you still have to talk to your dad after this?” Jake asked. You went to take another hit when Marie stopped you. “No more let’s just spray the perfume and walk back. We can just sit at a table.” She said. You obliged to your friends request and once everyone was presentable the group left, snagging a table in the corner.
As time went on eventually the night was coming to an end; even snotty business men couldn’t brag about how rich they were forever. You all conversed but also watched how the size of the crowd slowly shrunk. “Eunwoo asked if we wanted to go on his parents yacht tomorrow since it’s a sunday.” Jake mentioned. Everyone agreed that it was a sound plan and they would be down to go. “Are you sure Y/n, isn’t your dad super mad?” Kim questioned you. “Since when has that stopped me. He probably won’t even be around to say no.” You responded. “She could take a weekend vacation to Italy and that man still wouldn’t notice.” Jake said, causing you to laugh. Finally it was time for you to leave and say your goodbyes. You knew not to hug Jake so you guys just did your handshake; people gossip it’s an activity of most Gothamites. Kim and you shared a quick hug, “Make sure to update us.” She said. Then it came to Marie and when you guys hugged she patted your back, “Please don’t say anything stupid when he talks to you. I know your upset but don’t worsen whatever punishment he may dish out.” She whispered. You thanked her in return. “Stay safe out there pookie.” Kim said as you walked away.
It was stupid to think you could embrace the comfort of your room when you arrived back at the manor. “My office, now.” Bruce said with an even tone. You followed behind him, heels clicking on the floor. He took a seat in his big chair and you stood in front of him. The silence wrapped it’s hand around your throat, causing every breath you took to feel strained. “Are you gonna tell me why you were smoking on school property?” All the air rushed to your lungs and you almost felt dizzy. “I have no excuse and I’m sorry.” Came your response, remembering Marie’s words from earlier. “Not only have you embarrassed yourself you made this family and me look bad Y/n.” He stated. You didn’t know why but the way he worded it pissed you off. “This family?” You scoffed out then continued, “What about our family or what’s even left of it?” Bruce took a sip of a drink he poured himself, “You are apart of this family and I don’t know what you’re trying to get at here Y/n but get your act together.”
You should have left it at that you know you should have. “I fight the most dangerous criminals in Gotham day and night but you draw the line at me getting caught smoking. You guys are acting like I committed some heinous crime when I did something that I’m sure other people in our family have done.” Bruce was visibly showing that he was upset now, “That doesn’t matter you’re supposed to be setting an example as an eighteen year old I shouldn’t be hearing about stuff like this.” You wanted to crawl out of your skin and go anywhere but here. “You only care because I got caught not that I’m smoking weed in general because you’re absent but you aren’t that absent to the point where you can’t smell it on me. You just choose not to say anything and only care when it’s convenient for you or I’m putting your so called reputation in jeopardy.” You grit out. He slammed his hands on the desk, “Gotham doesn’t need a hero who acts irrationally and irresponsibly.” That one stung and you couldn’t bite your tongue any longer, “Well news flash that’s majority of all vigilantes and the Justice League.” “Keep this up and I’ll have Stephanie be Batgirl again.” He taunted. Oh but he had to have known that was a sour spot he knew how much you loved being Batgirl and included in the family’s night job. “And there won’t be a new mantle for you to pick up if I do so. Do you hear me?” He asked. You didn’t think you had paused for even a minute before he said it again, “Do you hear me?” “Yes, loud and clear Bruce.” You answered. “Go to bed it’s late.” He instructed you.
Being the petty person you were you slammed the door on the way out. “Shit!” You jumped when you were met with Dick, Tim, Damian, Jason, and even Cass eavesdropping outside the door. You didn’t even want to bother picking apart the emotions displayed on their features. So you just pushed past them, ignoring the multiple shouts of your name. When you got to your room you locked the door not bothering to move an inch from your bed after you got changed and multiple knocked sounded.
a/n not my best work although i do appreciate how many people have been interested so here we are i hope you enjoy and i will release the next chapter soon hopefully also i wanted to tag other people but for some reason it wouldn’t let me and i don’t know how to fix it

Hello friend! A friend of mine is doing a Stargate SG-1 rewatch and lamenting the slim pickings of fic on AO3. Do you know where she can find fic that perhaps is still on some old archive of yore? Or have any recs? She's mostly interested in Jack/Daniel and Jack/Sam. Ty!!
oh my. with all the love in the world to your friend visiting us from a very different fandom tax bracket than i have ever had the fortune to participate in (those two pairings have well over 6k fics each on ao3), i'll see what i can do!
[several hours of looking around later] bad news!! not much!
most of vintage sg-1 fandom was wiped out by expired domains, struck-through livejournals, ff.net's porn ban, yahoo lists, etc. some pages are still preserved in the wayback machine for heliopolis, the massive het-and-gen archive, and area52, the slash counterpart, but with the search and directory functions pretty much toast, they're almost impossible to navigate.
fanlore has an old list of archives (including plenty of jack/daniel ones). some smaller archives might yield wayback paydirt, especially if they were hand-coded. samandjack.net is still alive!
and, hate to say it, this was peak era for ff.net and they have like 30k fics over there... but all the explicit fic is gone.
i recently learned some people are still doing het-reccers (user-submitted fanfic recommendations, LJ archive is here). i don't know if any slash equivalents are still around (and i haven't looked at this site for genuinely fifteen years, so i can't speak to the quality of recs).
some sam/jack recs of mine; some of these authors multi-ship:
nanda: her resolution series especially should not be missed and i can't stress that enough. smut and action. fics great fics across the board.
it's kind of difficult to express how popular Salr323's fics were (under a different name) back in the day. i'm told that archive servers would crash when she posted something new. low on smut, high on PINING. rec: it was admittedly 1 am but as i recall this one made me feel like i'd just seen the fanfiction mona lisa
there are quite a few multifandom wonders who cut their teeth in this fandom, including missparker (rec: a small crime)
this cassandra fraiser fic dealt me some damage: nobody dies tonight by isawet
someone who's still in touch with her please harass splash_the_cat for writing 99 sg-1 fics and then walking away without cracking 100. lots of fun little snacks in there including this one
everything anr touches is gold <3
starting to get stressed out about who i'm missing!!!!
if your friend likes D/s this one is fun by tremontaine
lol read my stuff (i never wrote smut for sg-1 though)
hey everyone, please add recs in the notes/reblogs, especially jack/daniel recs because that's out of my wheelhouse but we aim to serve

SUNSET PART 2
Or a pretty bad doctor
Tumblr media
Clarisse La Rue x Cassandra De Young (oc! Apollo's kid)
Summary: Clarisse is going to colect her dept, by treating her wounds with a very bad doctor. Or the one when Clarisse likes to taunt people.
Warnings: that time when you actually stop to think about your own life, mentions (one) of blood, confident Clarisse (she likes to taunt pretty girls, even when they are bad doctors)
(We actually get a clarisse pov today!)
Part 1 is here!
There were exactly seven demigods in the Apollo's cabin this afternoon.
An absurdly low number for a summer everyday, but considering im early, this must be common.
I've never seen camp so empty, its feels like another reality if im being honest, nobody saw when me and Clarisse walked in togheter, nor when she walked with me to the front of my cabin, and dropped the suitcases on the grass and started to walk towards her own cabin.
"Hey Clarisse! ....thank you! I wouldnt have made it withou-" she turned her head to me
"You owe me, dont forget that."
Like she would allow me to, why children of Ares got no patience? Or like, actually willingness to be sociable? They cant act like that with everybody, can they?
This was the first time i actually got space in this cabin, as well as the first time i could pick my own bed and place all my things calmly, is this how castor and pollux live everyday? Lucky them.
I mean, i love my siblings, but we are too many to such limited space.
And as much as that does leads us to somewhat funny situations, we are still too many, with too few bathrooms and mirrors.
Being like this allowed us to breathe, and think slowly, as if a person who lived his whole life in the busy city moved to a town who was mostly farm.
And that was when i started to miss the mess my siblings made when we were all togheter, when i actually had time to stop and think.
I cant even imagine the things my grandpa is saying about me, how he must be trying to poison the family against ourselves, he does that even when the smallest things dont go his way, and right now, the whole family must think of me as if i am Queen Mary I, and they are the protestants im trying to burn alive.
I didnt go to dinner that night, nor to the campfire, i wouldnt manage to eat without feeling dizzy after, and i was sure i was not in the mood for singing that night.
I just showered, put my pajamas on, grabbed a book, layed on my bed and hoped that time ran faster.
Tumblr media
Coming to camp earlier had its benefits, at least to me, pick the bed, be aware of any new faces earlier, train more (with people who could actually be named opponents, wich just meant they had better sense of combat than a inflatable doll from a gas station) and of course, run away from insufferable family members who i had to face for nine months, to see more insfferable family members who i'll still have to face for three months.
Funny.
I just wouldnt expect to see her there too.
She always likes to spend some days of her rich girl summer life in her family's yatch, or shopping..not that i keep track of her life, i know very little, but i do know that she likes to get to camp when its already messy, people all around, shooting arrows, swimming, painting, fighting, singing and all, but this year she was here early and with a strange look on her face.
It was just..weird.
I didnt felt right.
But what surprised me the most was she asking for my help, and being in dept with me.
She didnt even looked at me in a normal day.
I think there is something to do with her family, they look at me, almost always with a ugly face, and then they keep her away from me.
So, she speaking to me was a surprise.
But to be honest, if i hadnt saw her earlier, i wouldnt even know she was here, i mean, she didnt left her cabin all...not that i kept track of that, but still, unsual, especially for a Apollo kid, they always love to be out and about under the sun.
But then, the whole afternoon? Nothing
Dinner? Nothing
Campfire? Nothing
At night when i went to practice a bit more with my sword? Nothing
She better not have run away, because she is still in dept with me, and im going to collect it right now.
It was late, but the cabin still had a small light coming from inside.
Strange, all of the cabins had their lights out, they were sleeping.
I knocked on the door, waited and knocked again, after a few seconds a sleepy Cassandra oppened the door, rubbing her eyes and taking a few seconds to realize what was happening.
Then she looked down, and saw me holding my own arm to stop the blood.
"Already?" She looked at me again, and started to tie her hair up, it always amazed me how in every situation she was her.
If people didnt knew she was a demigodess, they would probably think she never even stepped in earth ground, that she never had to share, or suffered any problems at all, her family raised her to be little miss perfect, and little miss perfect she was, even when what she was wearing looked like it came straight out of a beach party, she made it look like designer clothes, she looked expensive, always.
"You said whenever, today is whenever too" i said, walking in when she stepped aside to give me space to enter. "Wait, where are your siblings?"
"We were only in seven today, and since the camp is empty, they are probably sleeping with their friends, or boyfriend and girlfriends." She looked around, probably for a first aid kid.
"What about you? Nobody invited little miss magazine cover for a sleepover?" She grabs a kit and sits at one bed, starring at me...oh right, i sit down by her side.
"Im not in the mood for that tonight, Clarisse"
"Based of the fact you are still fully d-"
She stomped her feet on the ground
"Do you always have to be like this? Thats why my family wont let me talk to you! Im not in the mood for jokes, for sleepovers and specially for us to keep stinging each other" she oppened a little alcohol bottle, to clean the wounds i think.
"Oh they wont let you? so you wanted to? That-AH WHY?" I screamed when she just poured the alcohol straight into the cut
"Okay that didnt hurt....a lot, youre being dramatic, also, enough of that talk" she said while cleaning my cuts with a piece of cotton. "Now, we dont have nectar or ambrosia in here, and going to the infirmary is to risky..but you have small cuts, i think this will do....dontfinditweird... please"
"Why would i find it weir-" i was cut mid sentence by her giving a small kiss in my arm, and starting to bandage me right away, though i did saw some of my cuts getting better. "Im sorry, you do that since when?"
"Its..been a time, i just never used it because, you know, going around kissing random demigod's wounds would be, weird and unhygienic" she holded a finger up, and then a second, as if counting the reasons. "But hey, you are all set, and you should go, before anyone notices the lights on"
"Hey they were on before i even came in" i got up, and so did she, gathering all the used stuff and throwing them in the bin by the side of the bed.
"True, i was reading before, and fell asleep...i guess thank you... in a certain way, if you hadnt came here they would stay on the whole night and the chance of my siblings getting caught being out of the cabin was huge.." i looked around, "The song of Achilles" was it was half open on one of the beds.
"Greek myth retelling?" I ask walking towards the door, she just hums in agreement.
"A pretty good book, you should try to read it...i dont know if you like books very much but.. yeah"
"Maybe, tell me when you finish it, ill see if im in the mood for it" i open the door and put a step outside, but before i trully left i said "You are a pretty bad doctor, you know? Not even treating all the wounds, my lips are also cut" i watched her face go from confusion to realization in a second
"Clarisse! you-"
I slammed the door.

TWINcognito mode Part 6(Tim and Danny Pretend to be Twins AU) (lmfao nah they adopted Danny they ain't pretending anymore)
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, AO3
Alfred looked up from where he was polishing the last segment of the giant penny, just as one of Master Bruce’s civilian cars came to a rather sudden halt. The doors opened to an unholy cacophony of shouting and adolescent rage, and an almost desperate Master Bruce attempting to gain control of the situation.
With a clatter of a dropped school bag, Master Duke stumbled down the stairs, looking as perplexed as Alfred himself was.
Miss Barbara appeared on the screen, looking very much like she either wished to throttle the shouting siblings or was about to retreat to her bed.
Miss Cassandra appeared on the screen as well; the only one of any of them who looked amused. Well bully for her, then. If only they could all be so lucky as to be in a different country at that moment.
“Master Tim,” Alfred started, raising his voice just enough to warrant a pause in the ongoing argument, “Would you be so kind as to tell us why you are dressed like Master Danny?”
That was the wrong question.
That was the entirely wrong question to ask, and Alfred knew the second he saw the expression on Master Damian’s face.
“Timothy thought that running away from his problems instead of facing them was the answer, as usual, and-”
“-I do not run away from my problem you insufferable little-”
“-Opted to trade places with Daniel instead of standing and fighting for him-”
“-So are you saying I’d able to win against Bruce-”
“-Now Todd is on the run with Daniel at his mercies-”
“-It’s fine; Jason seems to like Danny, he’s-”
“-Perhaps we should let Master Bruce speak,” Alfred interrupted, cutting into their particular version of bonding.
Master Bruce looked like he very much did not want to speak.
“...Master Bruce, please enlighten us as to the reason for this meeting.”
Master Bruce avoided Alfreds gaze.
“B tried to kill Danny.”
“I did not!”
“You are overreacting, Timothy. But yes, father did inadvertently attempt to murder the superior twin.”
“I’m sorry,” Master Dick’s voice echoed through the cave, as cold and as terrifying as his eyes, “Bruce did what?”
Oh dear.
~~~~~~
Jason threw his helmet against the wall in rage.
Danny, very helpfully, staggered over to it and brought it back to him, taking care to only scorch it a little bit with his uncontrolled energy arcs. Jason did not take it back.
“Do we feel better now?”
No, no he did not.
“Jason, you gotta take Danny to the Cave; Dick’s on a warpath,” Barbara sighed through his earpiece, “I’ve muted myself on their side but he won’t calm down until he sees Danny. You know Danny will be safe there, and I’ll take over the security systems to guarantee an easy escape if I’m wrong.”
“Jason, why does Tim wear these suits?”
“Jason, please, just-”
“-I feel like my skin is fighting me-”
“-Take Danny to-”
“-Was the sky always pink?”
“-Shut up!” Jason snapped, only to end up with his own helmet braining him.
“You shut up, you…you fruitloop,” Danny hissed, sounding for all the world like he’d just gravely insulted Jason.
That was adorable, but Jason was too pissed to acknowledge that.
He did file it away for use later, though. As blackmail material, obviously.
“Okay, fine. I’ll take the little menace to the Cave, and I want a guaranteed easy escape.”
“Done. Good luck getting him on your bike.”
Danny struck one of the sloppiest fighting poses Jason had ever seen in his life, literally hissing like a cat. Jason heard a click as Barbara disconnected, the coward.
“You can’t or he’ll kill me! And I’ll kick your butt to prove it!”
“How does that make any sense?”
Danny attempted to throw a punch in response, but overbalanced and landed on his face, using his bad hand to attempt to stop himself. Jason watched apathetically as the younger of the twins dragged himself off of the ground and cradled the burned appendage, before making seal-eyes at Jason.
“You did this to yourself,” Jason said flatly.
The eyes started to water.
“But it hurts,” whined Danny.
“I don’t care,” mocked Jason, “Suck it up, pipsqueak, and get on the bike.”
~~~~~~
Duke was not hiding.
He absolutely was fucking not.
He was just…staying out of the line of fire.
Watching as the scariest version of Dick he’d ever seen glared Bruce, Damian, and Tim into silence as the eldest forced them all to wait for Danny to get there.
Duke opened his mouth to ask for maybe some clarifying information, possibly to learn what exactly had happened while he’d been at school, before closing it with a quiet click.
He wasn’t sure that drawing Dick’s attention on him would be a good thing.
Instead, he made himself scarce and waiting for oh thank god he could hear the motorcycle.
Jason came to a screeching halt, and looked just as pissed as Dick, and Danny was…stumbling like he was drunk.
“Dude, are you drunk?” Slipped out of Duke’s mouth before he could stop himself.
Danny immediately course-corrected to beeline towards Duke, which was very unfortunate because that would take him off of the vehicle pad and into the dark, deadly abyss between them.
Jason didn’t even look over as he grabbed Danny by the collar of his very expensive looking jacket and hauled him down the walkway.
“No,” Danny whined, making grabby hands at Duke, “Save me Duke they’re gonna make me suck it up!”
“Suck what up?” Duke asked, stepping out of his not-a-hiding-place and hurrying over.
“My hand,” Danny wailed, waving a bandaged hand in the air as proof.
Jason manhandled Danny to his front so he could shove him at Tim, who caught his twin and glared at the crime lord.
“You couldn’t be a little more gentle?”
“He burned my helmet and then hit me with it, fuck you.”
“As expected, even incapacitated Daniel maintains the ability to attempt to defend himself. Timothy, learn from this.”
Tim attempted to reach out to presumably throttle Damian, but Danny decided to fully lean on his twin and forced Tim to put all of his efforts into keeping an inebriated meta upright.
Duke diverted his eyes from their antics to keep focus on the bigger problem.
Dick.
Dick, who actually looked like he was slowly relaxing as his shoulders fell from their tense position.
Dick, who now looked much more likely to listen to people talk since he’d confirmed that Danny was…not fine, but would be.
“So…can we know what happened now?” Duke asked, really needing to wrap up whatever this was so he could get started on his…homework. Yes. That was what he was going to do.
“I’m a god,” Danny answered, completely serious as he hid his face in his twins chest, “I can see it all so clearly now; everything is connected and I control all the realms and tax laws need constant reformation.”
Duke, as well as almost everyone in the room, elected to ignore this.
Well, he would have, if it hadn’t been for Bruce suddenly looking very, very ill. Duke supposed he would; the rich were afraid of taxes, after all.
“Bruce?” Duke asked cautiously, drawing attention to the man, “Hey, tax reforms aren’t that bad, you don’t have to be scared!”
“Bruce,” Dick ordered, much less cautiously, “Spill.”
~~~~~~
Dick, contrary to what he let his family believe, did not allow himself to be blinded by familial love to what was right in front of him.
He did allow his emotions to get the better of him, he would be the first to admit that. Second, if he couldn’t say it faster than Bruce.
He was quick to anger, tended to catastrophize, and generally did not have a sleep schedule to speak of, which only heightened the emotions he felt on a daily basis.
And he had worked so fucking hard to overcome all of that.
He wasn’t proud of who he had been, but he was working to be better than that. Every day was a chance to be a better person, and he was getting better about the frequency he fucked it up.
When Tim had left on his date and left Dick with Danny, Dick had been able to read the excitement and nervousness in the younger twin like an open book. He’d also taken note that Danny did not seem as able to hide his emotions as Tim, and okay, maybe he’d taken advantage of that.
He would blame the cop in him if he didn’t know for sure it was the Bat.
It wasn’t that Danny wasn’t as smart as Tim, it was just that Danny wasn’t as crime-oriented as Tim. Danny wasn’t constantly on guard or gathering information or reading people’s body language. He didn’t have to.
Danny, Dick discovered within five minutes of Tim leaving, loved engineering and space and hyperfixated on the topics just like Tim hyperfixated on cases.
Honestly, they hadn’t even watched the movie right away; Danny had let slip that he wanted glow-in-the-dark stars and Dick had pulled up all open toy stores on his phone.
Danny, Dick discovered, gave away information he did not mean when he was lecturing about something he was obsessive over.
So Dick had gotten a ladder, let Danny ‘forget’ he could fly so that his little brother could order him around, and set about decorating the ceiling with every single constellation Danny could pull from memory. In between placing the stars, he’d ask small, inconsequential questions. Questions Tim would never answer, but Danny was so distracted and unsuspecting that he answered them right away.
The thing that stuck out to Dick, immediately, was the way Danny worded things.
“Because ever since we’ve been introduced, we’ve literally never hung out,” Danny had said.
“Do you have anything else to say?” Tim had asked.
Danny kept commenting how he’d never known XYZ about Dick, that Dick had never told him about whatever story Dick was regaling him with, informing Dick about whether or not he liked or disliked something, and just…acting like he’d never met Dick before, and was doing everything but outright saying it.
The most damning evidence Dick managed to gather, however, was how Danny would pause before being introduced to a snack. Like he didn’t know if he would like it or not, like it was new to him.
So Dick chose a movie he’d seen a million times before, something he could easily pretend to watch while he compiled what he’d found out in his head.
It was an old movie, a cult classic, and the attention Danny was giving it indicated that he’d never even heard of it before.
So.
Danny was a clone, then.
If he had been an alternate version of Tim, he would have known some things about Dick’s personal tastes, and if he had been Tim’s twin from a different dimension, then at least some of the things they’d talked about would have overlapped.
But it was all new to him.
That left cloning.
Danny looked nothing like Kon, and Dick was certain that he and Superman had successfully shredded Tim’s cloning lab, soTim and Luthor were out.
But Tim had a lot of enemies.
The issue was finding out which one…
Tim’s spleen.
That would have been a good source of DNA material, and only one person had both the remains of Tim’s organ and the money to afford a cloning operation.
Ra’s Al Fucking Ghul.
It wasn’t enough that the freak was chasing his little brother’s skirts, he’d resorted to creating his own version of Tim to play with.
And Tim had gotten him away, without reaching out to the family for help. Again.
It would match Danny’s cover story about being deep cover, but it snagged on one thing.
Why hadn’t Tim taken Danny out with him when he’d infiltrated the League to get Bruce back?
So Danny had been in the League, and if he was a clone then that would explain…well, everything.
Dick watched Danny through the corner of his eye, noticing for the first time what his small fidgets were for.
Lightly rubbing fingers on rough surfaces, check. Reaching up to touch a specific area of his face, check. The small undercurrent of fear that would rise when the movie slowed, check. Deep, controlled breaths when the movie touched on certain subject, check. Slowly but surely burrowing his way into his oversized hoodie until the only skin visible was his face, check.
All pointed towards grounding himself, all pointed towards previous trauma.
Dick decided to ask for confirmation, without asking for confirmation.
“Man, I forgot how cheesy this movie could be,” he chuckled, leaning further into the couch, “Real assassins don’t move like that.”
Danny snorted, nodding in agreement.
“Way too many useless moves; they’d get seriously punished for the excess time it took.”
Yup.
Yup yup yup.
That was the League speaking.
And from how Danny had tensed his shoulders, how that flash of fear had briefly shown in his eyes, that was also experience speaking.
Dick had thought he’d protected Tim from Ra’s, but apparently Ra’s had found a workaround.
Dick wasn’t worried about brainwashing; that would have been the first thing Tim dealt with.
Tim had taken this clone, cleaned him up, gotten him on his feet, and declared him his twin, and okay; that was their choice, and if that was what they wanted their identities to be, then that was what they were. They wanted to play a prank on the family? Fine, Dick didn’t have any issue with it.
He was thrilled to have another brother, if he was honest. Especially one insistent on being a civilian; that was one less sibling he had to worry about on his patrols.
What he did have an issue with, however, was that Ra’s had managed to traumatize one of his little brothers, and had done it with Dick none the wiser.
By the time the movie had ended, Dick had worked himself up too much about it, and could feel the explosive outburst teasing the edge of his mind.
So he’d all but run from the penthouse, and crime in Gotham that night feared Nightwing far more than it did Batman.
Presently, he could feel the explosion that had been building ease back as he watched Danny make a nuisance of himself to his twin. He watched them for another moment, before turning his attention to Bruce.
Bruce, who looked like he knew something, but clearly had made a move without knowing everything.
All this talk about Bruce trying to kill Danny was making Dick consider putting that same fear he’d put into the criminal underbelly of Gotham that night into his father.
“Bruce,” he ordered, fighting to keep his voice level, “Spill.”
~~~~~~
Damian used Timothy as a distraction, grabbing Daniel’s hand and ensuring that its bandage was not removed or knocked loose. It was not going well; the hand was occasionally sparking and Daniel kept trying to pull it away.
Daniel only stopped trying to squirm away when he realized it was Damian who was touching him, whereupon he took it upon himself to transfer his weight from Timothy to Damian with a cry of “El-witwaat!”.
Damian used the momentum to make Daniel sit, allowing for the undamaged hand to wrap around him in exchange for free access to the injured hand.
He finally managed to re-tighten the slightly-burned bandage in time to listen to Father’s lackluster explanation.
“I was under the wrongful impression that Danny was from another dimension, and wanted to send him back so that his version of Bruce would not worry,” he started, laying out the most relevant facts and keeping his hands at his sides and his stance non-threatening, “I was unaware I was implying that I would send him to his death; I will no longer be pursuing that course of action.”
There was an unimpressed silence from Richard, before he spoke but a single word.
“Clone.”
Damian heard Father let out a soft exclamation, but tuned him out to look down at the twin plastered to his front.
Damian went over their past interactions, the way that Daniel had worded things, how Daniel interacted with the world; and Damian was surprised that Daniel had gone out of his way to never once lie to Damian, personally. Certainly, he’d lied to the others to keep the charade going, but everything with Damian had been worded so carefully that it had never strayed out of the realm of truth.
Damian did not feel betrayed by this.
He felt relieved.
He did not have to walk on eggshells, wondering if his current actions would stay on track for past actions. He no longer felt that he had to outdo a past version of himself that he could not recall.
Damian would begrudgingly grant that Timothy’s idea was an excellent training exercise in jumping to wrong conclusions, or accepting the facts presented before him without question.
The youngest Wayne turned to glare at Timothy even as the older twin-progenitor? Twin. Damian could see them as nothing else-attempted to console Daniel.
“Do you intend to throw him away, now that you’ve utilized him as a tool for your test?”
Timothy had always been against Damian, and Damian had always been against Timothy. They had a history of fighting each other, and were more likely to draw blood than to agree on something.
But Damian had never seen the look of hatred on Timothy’s face that his brother directed at him after he asked that question.
Good.
“He’s my twin, I don’t care where he came from-”
“-Good, then we actually agree on something for once,” Damian interrupted, not wishing to hear whatever monologue the buffoon was about to prattle on about.
Daniel was his brother, and the only brother he had a normal relationship with.
Luck was with Timothy, as Damian had been fully prepared to fight to keep it that way, and thought that Timothy could stand to gain a few more holes in his body.
~~~~~~
Bruce took in the scene in front of him.
Danny was coddling Damian, who was mother-henning over Danny in his own way. Tim hovered over them both, unsure of how to handle himself since his twin had attached himself to their youngest.
Jason had turned on his heel and marched towards the stairs, presumably to raid the kitchen, Dick had collapsed into a chair and was taking deep, meditative breaths, and Duke looked like he was having fourteen epiphanies at the same time.
Alfred stood with perfect poise and raised an eyebrow at Bruce.
“I’m so sorry sir; given that you had not informed me of your ongoing theories as to Master Danny’s existence, I assumed that you knew.”
It was blindingly clear that Alfred knew that Bruce had not known, and that not telling him was payback for Bruce not including Alfred in his research.
Barbara had chewed them out for lack of communication, and she had been right. If they had just talked to each other, then the massive misunderstanding he’d had wouldn’t have happened.
Fine.
“I also have to report that according to Constantine, he’s acting as the eyes for a god of some sort in this dimension.”
“Yeah, that checks,” Tim piped up, obviously distracted.
Dick stopped his meditative breathing.
Bruce turned slowly to face Tim.
“What,” Duke said flatly from behind him.
Tim looked a bit cornered.
Luckily, Danny had zero self-control.
“Beelzebub stole me from my Lair and put me in a mortal body and now I’m alive again and sometime’s people want to talk to me so Tim put a tracker in my leg.”
Bruce kept his gaze on Tim.
Tim kept his gaze on Danny.
“Tim,” said Bruce.
“Bruce,” answered Tim.
“Isn’t Beelzebub a demon?” Asked Duke.
“Beelzebub is a bitch,” clarified Danny.
“Language!”
“Sorry, Alfred,” Danny moaned, before whispering to Damian, “But he is, though.”
“Why does he need a tracker, Tim?” Dick cut in, looking exactly how Bruce felt.
“He may have been a big name in the afterlife, and people can sometimes summon him and he’ll just…poof,” Tim mumbled, miming an explosion with his hands, “So the tracker alerts me if he just randomly jumps locations. I can set it to alert on your phones too, if you give me fifteen minutes.”
Bruce frowned.
The tracker was a good idea then; they’d be able to find Danny if he was summoned and retrieve him back home safely.
Dick looked rather like he’d swallowed a lemon.
“So you just…violated his autonomy?”
“No, he actually agreed to the tracker.”
“Cultists are scary and I like being alive.”
Damian nodded solemnly, fully agreeing with Danny’s decision.
Bruce sighed, electing to ruffle Danny’s hair as he walked past him to the BatComputer.
He had a PR shitshow to navigate, and Danny needed to sleep off the morphine before he made Duke’s head explode.
“So one of my brothers is a prophet?!”
Too late, it seemed. Duke was falling down the conspiracy rabbit hole that Tim’s boyfriend loved to swim in.
Fighter Breakdown Tracker, episode 3x78
Welcome to what was originally an opportunity to talk about the myriad wizards (not Myriad wizards, a separate concept) of Campaign 2 that occasionally gets co-opted into other things when the thought arises. Anyway, obviously the main event was the Barbarian Breakdown and, relatedly, the Party Breakdown, due to their Communication Breakdown, giving Allura Vysoren specifically her 19th Nervous Breakdown, but I've already talked a lot about Ashton. How are the fighters doing?
As a reminder: characters are included on the basis of 1. are they a fighter, 2. are they remotely relevant to this campaign, and 3. do I have something funny to say about them. I cannot stress enough how important item 3 is in the decision process; do not make requests, my muse speaks to me and that is how the characters (and, to be honest, classes) are chosen.
Cassandra de Rolo: Yes! According to the Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting (not reborn) she's multiclassed into fighter! Anyway that plan to go to the ziggurat went well, huh? totally normal and great. I like to think that due to her rogue levels she saw Fearne march down the ziggurat steps and just peaced out and has been chilling in Pike's little cabin ever since. 4/10: normal "is the world ending" concerns but otherwise she's having maybe the best day anyone on the Whitestone War Council can.
Jarett Howarth: he's specifically avoiding Bells Hells because motherfuckers keep teleporting from Marquet and not bringing any fusaka. This, plus normal "putting the Pale Guard on a war footing and also there's a really mad goat lady in the garden" bumps him up to a 6/10.
Orym: my serious thoughts about the space made for Chetney, FCG, and Imogen to step up aside I honestly think the semi-joking narrative of Orym going off in a huff and working out his feelings quite literally via the power of elaborate bodyweight calisthenics of the sort that grant you 20 Dex and 10 Str would be good for him. Allow yourself a little pettiness, Orym; it's good for the soul. 5/10 because I don't fucking know; we'll see next game.
Ariks Eshteross: I hope he's at peace and buried next to his love as requested; I still haven't gotten around to making those cookies actually and frankly I've had much more of an eye on the gunpowder tea shortbread. 0/10; I like to think he has found true rest.
Bertrand Bell: These motherfuckers have not visited the grave of their namesake at ALL. Traipsing around the Raven Queen's temple - literally everyone but Laudna and FCG has wandered over to that corner of the city - and NO ONE has taken a moment to pause and reflect. He died as he lived: everyone kind of setting him aside for more important matters except for followers of the Raven Queen. 8/10 because hopefully he was entertained by the raven show that got put on but also, come on man you couldn't stop by at all?
FRIDA: I have to imagine things in Vasselheim are wild and it's going to be missing FCG hours, but at least they're in great company! 5/10; they're a pretty even-keeled robot all things considered but the situation is pretty tense.
Otohan Thull: My sole regret about how great this episode is and the fact that we're dropping into the Fey Realm for a bit to have some much-needed time to regroup is that we are likely delaying their richly deserved demise. Anyway everyone's beloathed Palpatine knockoff is unfortunately super unflappable; another reason why they are boring as shit and why I very much want Bells Hells to make the bridge a little bit bloodier on the way up. 3/10.
Percival Friedrickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III: Here's the thing. All things considered, his personal position is stressful, but not terrible. The ziggurat did not blow up; Gwen appears to either have not told him about her Delilah incident or did so in such a way that he didn't realize what was going on; he doesn't seem to have noticed the break-in into his parents' bedroom yet; Allura was reassuring re: Whitestone likely being safe (although...it's on a ley nexus so watch out!); and he got to deliver the line "ever since I met you, I knew you were destined for stupidity" which is actually how he specifically blows off steam. On the other hand, every single window in the castle has been destroyed, Allura had to leave, and I just checked and confirmed that Pike does not have the mending cantrip. Maybe one of the local clerics does? Maybe one of his kids does? Maybe Vilya or Ebenold does? Maybe Grog's in town and can be convinced that the role of the Grand Poobah etc etc is fixing windows? 6/10.
Perc'ahlia Week: Free/Random
we did it folks! thanks to everyone who participated in @percahliaweek, esp the good folks who organized this whole thing! it's been so much fun to explore these prompts! here's hoping i stick the landing.
Percival de Rolo III wakes up on his last day knowing that he will not see another dawn. It hardly scares him; if anything, his aching joints have been screaming for rest for ages now, each one creaking and stiff like an unwound clock. He doesn't know where the certainty comes from, only that it doesn't feel macabre or fatalistic. He is going to die today. Better get a move on.
He doesn't begrudge Vex'ahlia's stubborn insistence that he's fine. He doesn't begrudge Vex'ahlia's stubborn anything. He lets her perform her morning ritual as usual, lies still as she grips one of his hands in both of hers and pours into him every ounce of magic she has for the day. The healing doesn't work, because he is not injured, merely human. Still, he smiles and thanks her, and they both pretend that it made things better.
Over breakfast in bed (all of his breakfasts are in bed these days, as are all of his other meals, and in fact the vast majority of his time), he quietly asks her to gather their family. She freezes, her forkful of eggs halfway up to her mouth. His vision is not what it used to be, but she is so beautiful, the golden rays of Pelor's dawn sparkling in her hair, now more silver than brown. She has always glittered, something beautiful and wild, a dragon who made a hoard of his heart.
She sets her fork down. She does not look at him. She asks if he's sure. He says that he is. She believes him, because after seven decades, she knows he is not a liar. It is a feat, the way she schools her expression into something that doesn't shatter his heart in two. She smiles and kisses his cheek. "Of course, darling."
They come, because for the past year or so, they have been preparing themselves for this very thing. Keyleth is called first, and she takes it upon herself to gather the most far-flung. Percy misses most of their arrivals; his energy wanes quickly after breakfast, and he passes in and out of sleep until a pair of lips on his cheek stir him back to consciousness. "Hi, Grandpa."
Vesper's eldest, Whitney, helps him into a sitting position. He feels each and every one of his bones as he moves. Beside her, her husband, an elven man Percy remembers not trusting for years, holds their infant son. Whitney's eyes are red and swollen. "Mimi says you...wanted everyone here."
Percy lets out a coughing laugh; gods above, they're great-grandparents now, and Vex still hates being called grandma. "I don't think I have many goodbyes left in me, dear. Better to get them all out while I can."
She sniffs. "Can't...can't Aunt Kiki do something?"
Slowly, he reaches over to pat her hand where it rests on the bedspread. "Keyleth has done more for me than any man deserves, as has your grandmother, as has Pike. I have seen my share of sunsets and sunrises, Whitney. Time for...better eyes than mine to take a look."
Just then, the door to the master suite opens, and more de Rolos come spilling in like light through an open window. Wolfe is first, one arm around Gwen, clearly keeping her upright; Danny follows, his aunt Cassandra hobbling beside him, leaning heavily on his arm. Danny's followed by his son, Shaun, and Shaun's very pregnant partner, whose name Percy can't remember. It's disorienting, but not the first time Percy's memory has failed him. Once he had the sharpest mind in Whitestone, keen enough to make the inventions that set his home years ahead of the rest of the continent, technologically speaking, but most days now, his mind feels like a sieve, permeable, untrustworthy.
Still, he smiles as the rest of his family spills in, children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, twenty in all, not including Cass, who is given the chair right by his bedside. So many de Rolos, in a castle once entirely empty of them. Percy sees so much of the family he lost in their faces—his mother's eyes, his father's nose, Ludwig's jaw, Whitney's hair—and not for the first time, he knows what it means to be immortal in the most human way.
As they say their goodbyes, as they sniff away tears, as they promise him to do right by their family name, he knows that the legacy he has been chasing his entire life, one not stained with blood and black with smoke, has been a fool's errand. His family is not his legacy. They are people, just as he is, no more, no less. They will be great and they will be terrible and they will make mistakes and they will make the world a better place because the gods know that Percy has been far from a perfect man, but he believes he has done what he can to sow in their hearts the seeds of kindness, charity, empathy. He cannot claim them as his legacy because they are still building legacies of their own, ones that will reach far beyond his time in this realm.
He lets them kiss his cheek. He whispers his love, over and over, endless and true. He smiles and looks into each of their faces, hoping the sieve lasts long enough to carry him into whatever comes next.
.
He doesn't remember falling asleep, but when he awakes, the only de Rolo who remains is Cass. He can't see the white stripe in her hair anymore, because it is all white now. Her eyes are a soft blue, belying her almost complete lack of vision. Percy squeezes her hand. "You still with me, Cass?"
"You're asking me?" They both grin. "I've been trying to get rid of you for years. It's about time you got out of here."
"Yes, well, you remember how Mother used to scold me for being so slow to rise in the mornings."
"That's because you'd stay up until all hours reading."
"Which is why I'm so much smarter than you."
She rolls her eyes, and the air shifts, cools into something more melancholy. "Are you so sure it's now? You seem in such high spirits for a man convinced he's going to die today."
Percy doesn't know how to explain to her the knowing, the certainty in his bones that he could count the number of words he has left. He thinks of a night when they were young, far younger than they are now, when Cass would crawl into his bed during a thunderstorm, shaking and afraid. He tries to explain it the same way he explained to that little girl that the thunder wasn't going to hurt her. "The gods have seen my hubris, my cruelty, my ego throughout the years...and they have loved me anyway. How else do you explain this?" He gestures weakly with his free hand, and he knows that she knows he's not referring to the castle and its riches. "I awoke this morning with my wife beside me in the home that we built, and I felt their calling in my chest. I am not long for this world, Cassandra." Tears slip quickly and silently down her nose. "I'm not afraid. Whatever is coming for me, good, bad, or ugly, it was worth what I experienced here, with my family. With you. I should have died with the rest of our siblings, with Mother and Father, that terrible night. I didn't. Everything after has been...a gift."
"A gift for me." She brings his hand up to her mouth, kisses his papery skin with her thin lips. "Your children and grandchildren, they've been a gift to me, too. Thank you for giving me my family back, Percival."
He smiles, and new fatigue washes over him. His eyes blink slow and long, and she pats his hand. "Rest now, brother. You still have work to do."
He wants to argue, but the sleep rushes over him, dark and warm, like smoke.
.
When Percival de Rolo III awakens for the last time, he is very much not alone. Perched on his left side is Keyleth, timeless and ethereal. The circlet and mantle of her station are gone, and for a moment, they're kids again, the entire world at their feet. Her eyes are glassy, and he has to be impressed that she hasn't started crying yet.
Standing on the foot of the bed, each holding onto a poster, are Pike and Scanlan. Like Keyleth's, neither's face belies much of the past seventy-odd years, but he can't find it in himself to be jealous of all the life they have yet to live. He thinks himself lucky to have had this, such a perfect little slice of the world, fit exactly to size for him.
Between the two of them, already a blubbering mess, is Taryon, the only person in the room who looks the way Percy feels. His liver spots match Percy's, which must drive Tary crazy. He wonders if this is harder or easier for him, given that Tary has already been grieving Lawrence these past six years or so. He hopes that Tary can be of use to Vex, though if he had to guess, he'd think Keyleth is better suited to the task.
Because she is also here, his heart, his Vex'ahlia. She sits at his right hand, where Cass had been earlier, and gently runs her fingers over the inside of his wrist. She has never been anything less the most beautiful creature he's ever seen, and not for the first time, though perhaps for the last, he thanks the gods for allowing her to be his. Well over half a century together, and he knows by the tremulous bob of her throat and the eyes that will not meet his that she is using every ounce of her formidable strength to keep herself in one piece.
"Hey, Percy." He looks back to Scanlan, whose shit-eating grin has not changed a bit in all these years. "If you finally wanted that six-way, you didn't have to say you were dying to get us here. You could have just asked."
Pike punches his shoulder, but Percy laughs. "You'd never...keep up with me...Scanlan."
"Yeah, I bet that's true." He reaches down to pat Percy's foot beneath the blankets. "You always were a better man than me."
"The bar is in hell," Pike grumbles under her breath, and Percy coughs out another laugh. They must be off-again, he guesses. Well, it was nice of them to come, regardless.
"Tary." The man in question cries twice as hard when Percy says his name. "Have I ever told you...how proud I am...of you?"
Tary brings a shaking hand up to wipe at his eyes, and Pike pats his arm reassuringly. "That's what I care about. If a guy like you could see the good in a guy like me...well, I knew I was gonna be okay."
And Tary is more than okay, Percy knows. He's done more good in the world than any of them would have thought possible the day they met him, arrogant and annoying and so very naïve. Percy is proud of him, proud of the work they've done together and apart. Someday, not too long from now, these same people will gather around Tary, usher him as gently from this world as they do for Percy now, and Percy can only hope that they sing his praises as loudly as he deserves.
Pike hops up onto the bed, her socked feet padding over so she can kneel by his elbow in front of Keyleth. She grips her holy symbol, now worn and smoothed, in one hand and rests the other over Percy's heart. "Everlight, please carry my friend into the next life with the same light and compassion he has shown me in our time together." Her voice is strong, but Percy can hear the tremble in it. "As faithful as I have been to you in my life, he has been twice as faithful to me, to his friends, to his family, to the people of Whitestone. And I think you and I both know that faith does not come quite so easily to some as it does to others." She opens one eye to grin at him, and he winks back. She closes the eye again to finish her prayer. "Let his soul rest among his ancestors, and may your benevolent light never stray from those he leaves behind."
There is a long beat of silence, and though his eyes are not what they used to be, Percy swears the mid-afternoon light streaming in from the wrought-iron windows flares just a bit brighter. Pike releases her holy symbol, leans down, and kisses his cheek. "Y'know," she whispers, just loud enough for him to hear, "for someone doomed by the narrative, you did alright for yourself, Percy."
"I couldn't...have done it without you."
The first of Pike's tears falls, and she slips back to the foot of the bed wiping at her eyes. Percy lets his head tip to the side, and Keyleth's face is as red as her hair, her own tears falling fast and loose down cheeks that don't look a day over thirty. "Hey."
"Hey." She sniffs, taking his hand in both of hers. "I know...I have a lot of goodbyes coming my way. Goodbyes I don't even know about because the hellos haven't happened yet. But you...fuck." She scrubs at her eyes with the back of her wrist. "I don't know what my life looks like without you, Percy. I don't wanna find out."
Oh, he truly does not envy her yawning years. He knows no one who deserves to have her heart broken less than Keyleth does, and yet he knows that so much heartbreak awaits her in the millennium to come. He squeezes her hand, and he prays to the Dawnfather that all of that heartbreak does not quiet her, does not harden her heart from the joys this world has to offer. Keyleth was made for sunlight, for spring flowers, for flight. The shadows will come, but they must not dull her shine.
"Keyleth, Voice of the Tempest." He attempts to gather as much authority into his weak voice as he can muster. "I charge you with not just the welfare of Zephrah, but with that of Whitestone, and of Tal'dorei as a whole. There is no one I trust more to act as steward of these people. Your wisdom, your generosity, your empathy...more than ever, you are needed to bestow your gifts upon Exandria. You know..." He smirks up at her. "We've met gods, Keyleth. And this may not be the best time to blaspheme, but they've got nothing on you."
She throws herself onto him, and it hurts, but he takes it. One last hug from his best friend, from the sister he gained after so much loss. Her tears soak into his neck, and for the first time today, his own prickle behind his eyes. He regrets all of the things he will miss, the wonderful accomplishments of his friends, his progeny, his neighbors. It is such a mortal thing, to know that the world will keep spinning in your absence, and to love and hate the spin for it. But someday, even the ageless Voice of the Tempest will rest, and if the gods know any mercy, he will see her again.
Before she pulls away, a shaking, sniffling mess, she whispers in his ear, "Tell him I still love him?"
He nods. He already knows, but Percy will tell him anyways.
As if on cue, there is a small commotion near the one open window on the far side of the chamber, and everyone turns to see a raven, too large to be natural, resting on the sill, as if it has always been there. There is a cracked sob from Percy's right, and he turns his head to see his wife covering her mouth with her hand.
Just enough time left, then.
"Come here." A small tug to her hand, and she's coming up to sit beside him, hip to hip. She brushes his thin, limp hair from his face, and he struggles to bring her hand, wrinkled and beautiful, to his lips. "What a life, eh?"
Her answering smile is watery. "The best one I could have imagined. It's the best gift you've given me."
"Well, I gave you quite a lot."
"It's my love language, darling, and you were always so fluent."
He laughs at that, and it dissolves into a cough. The raven flutters its wings in his periphery. "Let them take care of you?" His eyes cast over their friends before returning to her crumpled face. "We didn't create this wonderful life together for you to be alone when I'm gone. There are so many people who love you, Vex'ahlia de Rolo, and while I will always be the first among them, in this world or the next, I am not worried for you."
Her hair, unbraided and streaked with silver, spills onto his chest as she leans over him. "I'm not worried for you, either. I know that wherever you're going, I'll find you. I'll always find you. It's kind of my thing, after all." She sniffs loudly. "So take my heart with you, alright? I'll want it back when I get there."
"My extraordinary, incomparable wife. My heart, my judgement. My treasure, my salvation."
Crying, she kisses him, and it feels just like it did that first time, in a snow-capped wood, when they were kids and death was just another monster they could slay. He tastes the salt of her tears and the warmth of her skin and he knows every agony, every loss, every sorrow was always and will always be worth her. For the briefest moment, his heart pinches, a desperate wish to stay, but when his final kiss with his wife ends, he's smiling, because how many men can go to their deathbeds with no regrets?
He looks to his friends once more, each one a gift, a story, a legacy, and with a fading voice, says, "Vox Machina. What an honor it's been to change the world with you." His eyelids feel so heavy; he's already slept so much today. To his wife, he murmurs, "Dear, do you mind if I rest for a moment?"
"Of course, darling." She bends down to kiss his cheek. "Rest now. I'll be here."
The last things he sees are Vex's shining eyes, and across the room, a raven taking flight.
.
When Percy opens his eyes, he sees them, his friends, their heads bowed and shoulders trembling. They are circled around his deathbed, and Percy watches them mourn. It's far and away the strangest scene he's ever beheld.
"Percival Frederickstein von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III."
He turns, a smile already coming to his face. Oh, the ease with which he moves! He looks down at his hands—smooth and dexterous, hands he hasn't seen in years. "Would you look at that."
The black-feathered figure in the corner of the room is masked, so Percy can't see his face, but Percy doesn't need to see the smirk to feel it. "A handsome bastard once again, I see."
"Screw you, I was always handsome."
"No arguments here." The Champion of Ravens strides closer, and Percy can't help but feel a bit intimidated. "Welcome home, brother."
And they are embracing, reunited after so many decades of grief. "Thank you," Vax murmurs, in his strange, not-quite-Vax voice. "Thank you for taking care of them."
"It was my privilege." They separate, and the two dead men look at the ones they've left behind. "We still felt your loss. Every day, we navigated the hole your absence created. Them in particular." He gestures to Vex and Keyleth, who hold hands over his body's torso as they weep. "I just hope I did enough to help them find the way."
"You did. And now it's my turn." Vax sweeps a hand back, and the door to the chamber opens, but instead of the marbled hall he's used to, Percy sees only a brilliant, blinding white light.
Percy frowns. "Is Grog in there? To be honest, I thought he'd be the first to greet me. You know how bored he gets without someone to entertain him."
"I'm afraid I don't know. I only walk to dead to their doors. I don't get to see what's inside."
For the first time today, Percy's heart well and truly breaks. "Well, just know that as long as they live—" He jerks his head toward the remaining members of Vox Machina. "—your sacrifice will not be forgotten."
"I live as long as they live."
Percy chuckles. "First the mask, now the quotes—you want to be me so bad."
"Get in the light before I throw your ass in there, Freddie."
Grinning, Percy claps him on the shoulder as he passes by, letting is strong legs and youthful knees take him toward the door. Just a step away from the frame, he stops, bathed in the warm, mysterious light. He looks back one last time at his family, wonderful and perfect and his, and murmurs, "What a nice story, indeed." And then he steps into the light.
