IMPERIAL MUSEUM OF WAR, LONDON

Picture. Bad Condition. Found among bomb debris. London 1944.

“Captain Steven Grant Rogers talks to unknown soldier during a rare gala night during Wold War II.”

Steve finds the picture while searching for himself in the Imperial War Museum of London’s archives and his heart skips a beat on page 87 of 213.

He immediately shows it to Bucky, who has his head on his lap, and they both chuckle in tune at the caption but their hearts feel heavy.

“Talking, they say. You were totally checking me out,” Bucky laughs. “I know because I was doing the same thing. My mouth was dry and I had to close my fists so tight to avoid touching you in public, I left a full set of half-moon marks there.”

Steve takes a breath that smells like war and dust and for a moment he’s back in London: Nice uniforms for the important people who were passing by to pat their backs and happy music playing in the background like it wasn’t hell out in the streets.

“Cheek to cheek,” he blurts.

Bucky looks up, piercing grey eyes curious and hungry from below.

“Care to share?”

“Cheek to cheek. That’s exactly what was on my mind when they took that picture. I had been watching you walking from the other side of the ballroom; all dressed up and all smiles for everyone, but eyes fixed on me. That perfect cleft chin coming closer and closer... And I ached to dance with you, to step on you and laugh with you as we did at home in New York.”

He takes a moment and buries his hand on Bucky’s hair.

“And then you were at arms’ distance and I couldn’t touch you and it all seemed so surreal and so unfair. We had fitted before but at that moment? We could have just taken a step forward and danced cheek to cheek without tiptoeing or bending. Just one little step and... ”

Bucky suddenly stands up while Steve speaks.

“But we did, how come you don’t remember that part?”, he asks offering his hand to Steve, who smiles in understanding as he takes it, Bucky pulling him as close to him as he can manage. “My feet hurt so bad from you stepping on them all night. I almost couldn't walk for two days.”

“But it was worth it," Steve whispers resting his cheek on Bucky's as they start swinging in silence.

This didn't made the cut yesterday for fluff because I had like four things started and time for just one, but consider it a bonus for the amazing Stucky Week. I hope it eases your Monday woes and doesn't give you too much of a cavity..

In my mind this is set in the same universe as this headcanon /drabble where they like to check old online archives looking for familiar pictures.

And of course, the song we all know: 1939 version. Maybe they say that on on the big screen :)

Question 3 from questions for the fanfic writers? <3

If you had to direct a scene from your fic, what would you choose? Why? What would it look like? What techniques would you use to convey certain emotions? What would the set look like?

Ooh I love this question, thank you! <3 I really enjoy writing visually and often think about how different scenes would look in movies/tv shows. I also love making moodboards when I write, it inspires me a lot. (Though for some reason my regular Stucky tends to be not very visual I guess?)

I would direct a scene from my recent Stucky AU, Rites of the Wild, where Steve describes (to Bucky) what happened to him during a Dionysian ritual/bacchanal. The set would be in a Mediterranean pine forest, by a mountain.

I would show the ritual as eerie flashbacks and the whole thing would have a haunted, otherworldly feel to it. Like, Steve is a bit scared, but also in awe, and the visuals and sounds would be both beautiful and terrifying. (There's also a moodboard included in the fic that will give you some idea.) And Maenad!Bucky would be so fucking pretty omg.

(I loved writing this (very short) scene (and the whole fic) and would've definitely made it longer but I was in a hurry to finish it for Stuckyweek.) Let's ask each other more stuff! <3 Questions for fanfic writers

Coming Soon - New Fic Starting for Stucky Week!

Happy #stuckyweek2023 to all who celebrate! I'll be posting the first chapter of my new fic on July 9th, since it very much belongs in the NSFW prompt category--been inspired by the summer heat for this one. But, before I can unleash the new fic on the interwebs, I need your help!

I've literally written 80 pages of the dang thing, but still have no idea what the title should be. This is especially strange for me because I usually have the title before I have the plot or any of the other details. But this one has resisted all attempts to give it a name--maybe that's a sign, who knows? Regardless, I thought it might be fun for you all to vote on a title since we're almost at the--wait for it--end of the line. (Har, har)

Steve loves being Nomad. There's less pressure on him as when he was Captain America. He also loves traveling the earth with his husband Bucky, who is no longer the Winter Soldier but now goes by the White Wolf, and relearning who they both are in the process.
