one of my classmates shared this. this website was designed by an occupational therapist to help people identify difficulties that themselves or a loved one may be having in the home. it then shows and describes adaptive equipment that may help, a general price (example: a shower chair is around $31), and even includes links to sites to order them from.
if you or a loved one is having trouble around the home then some of these options could make the home safer and prevent worse, more expensive injury.

^ Just some former OzTREKK students chatting about why they chose to study at Bond University in beautiful Australia!
Bond University’s Master of Occupational Therapy is renowned for its unique blend of case-based learning, practical application, and more than 1000 hours of fieldwork embedded in the program. It's also the first occupational therapy master’s in Australia that gives you the choice between a clinically focused research pathway, which will prepare you for careers in research and academia; or a business-focused research pathway, where you undertake business electives relevant to careers in management and/or the private sector.
Study in Bond's world-class facilities The Bond University Institute of Health & Sport precinct on the Gold Coast is set to get a major upgrade! Set to open in August 2023, the new north extension will feature cutting-edge facilities to complement Bond University’s existing Institute of Health & Sport precinct in Robina. It will connect to the university’s existing High Performance Training Centre and double the current space for allied health programs.
The $45-million project represents Bond’s confidence in their in-demand allied health degrees, including the Master of Occupational Therapy and the Doctor of Physiotherapy, both popular programs among Canadians.
Find out more about how you can study OT at Bond (then practice in North America!).

Blog 17 First year of study OT
Dear reader,
Hope you liked the previous post about the rehabilitation congress in Düsseldorf. Today I wanna tell you my experiences about the first year of the study OT. What did I learn and what did I like most?
Every year has four periods of 10 weeks. The first seven weeks of a period you learn all needed theory and skills. Every period you get three tests; a theoretical test, a skill test and a performance assessment which is a combination of both.
The first ten weeks we learned basic stuff about OT and some frameworks we’ll use in the rest of the study. We also got to know how we could coach a client while driving a wheelchair and have an acquaintance conversation.
The second period was the time where we would learn a lot of stuff about children, their development and what intervention could be used.
I found it very funny because at a test we didn’t get real children to work with, but simulation clients. So there was sitting a 70 years old woman in front of me and I had to imagine it was a 7 years old. She was acting so good it could be real. I’ve so much respect for those actors.
Then I got to learn everything about my favourite group of people in the third period; elderly people. I found it really interesting to increase my knowledge about dementia, Parkinson’s and general age-related diseases.
Every time we enter a new period, there are lessons focussed on the process in the body when a particular disease occur. So talking about dementia; it is caused by damage to brain cells. This damage interferes with the ability of cells to communicate with each other. As a result that thinking, behavior and feelings can be affected. Different types of dementia are associated with particular types of cell damage in specific regions of the brain.
Okay, enough about that. Let me tell you about the last period: work.
Here we learned the consequences of too much work, too few rest and bad posture while sitting.
The main syndrome was a burn-out and how to prevent getting it. We also where able to set up an ergonomic workplace for screen work employees.
Well, this was a short summary about the first year of OT and how I experienced it. Hope you liked it and hopefully see you in the next blog!!
Kind regards,
Yrsa

hello. fellow occupational therapy student here. i am in my second lvl 2 rotation with a few weeks left and a capstone internship next semester. i haven’t started seriously reviewing for the board exam yet bc fw keeps me so busy… if it’s ok to ask, did your school have you take the certification exam before graduation or is that something you had to do after? Maybe you are currently working on it? if so, how is it going?
hi there!! Thanks for asking!
I may have gone a little off the deep end answering your question, so PLEASE do not feel overwhelmed reading this! Don’t read it all at once, either! I just wanted to share my experience with the hope that it helps you out.
Since every program is different, it’s worth noting that I got my MSOT degree from a small healthcare university over 2 years. My university didn’t expect us to take the NBCOT until after we graduated — they even paid for each of us to have a subscription to Pass The OT (which was sort of helpful, but I much preferred the AOTA’s study materials, even if they were $100). My cohort and I all had the chance to take the test at our own pace. I took mine (and passed) in June, while others have just taken theirs this week.
Before we left on fieldwork, my professors told us not to study for the NBCOT at all! I’m so glad they did, because I would have been majorly stressing. You’re absolutely right, fieldwork keeps you so busy!!
The next few paragraphs are gonna be pretty long and rambly, but basically this is a break down of how I studied for the NBCOT—idk if this information will be helpful to you, but I think it’s helpful to have an idea of where to start! Everyone studied different, so don’t take my routine as the One and Only way to pass the NBCOT.
The way I studied, I scheduled my exam 6 weeks out so I would have two weeks to find a routine, fumble around with different material, and take my time to recover from fieldwork and graduation. Then I studied religiously for a solid month, setting goals for each week and each day. I didn’t give myself time limits, but generally scheduled my days to have one morning study session and one afternoon study session… I’m pretty sure I studied 3-6 hours a day depending on how focused and motivated I was. I also have myself 1-2 days off per every 7 days for the sake of my mental health — these tended to be randomly set whenever I had plans with family or my brain needed a day off, rather than a strict on Monday-Friday/off Saturday-Sunday kind of thing.
The materials I used were the NBCOT’s free study pack (with the $550 price of the exam), the Pass The OT pack from my university, and the AOTA’s pack. The AOTA was a LIFE saver. Their practice questions are the closest to the real thing, including the clinical scenario ones! I reviewed all the lessons on the AOTA pack, and took notes on the practice questions I got wrong. Then I’d find YouTube videos or tutoring recordings from Pass The OT on the areas I wasn’t confident in, and explained the concepts to my family (or my dog). Teach-back is SUCH a vital study tool! Once I finished all the AOTA lessons, I went back over my notes and synthesized them into one page per topic of the most important information (or at least the stuff I still couldn’t remember).
I also took notes on test-taking tips. Becoming familiar with the test and with what the questions are actually asking is almost more important than actually knowing the material. They’re testing your clinical reasoning, not your ability to regurgitate facts about ulnar nerve injuries, so you will encounter conditions you’ve never heard of on the real exam. Having an arsenal of strategies prepared in the event that you’re clueless will help you keep your cool and answer well.
The last 2 weeks, I was literally just taking practice test after practice test (mostly just the ATOA’s and NBCOT’s tests… Pass The OT’s tests weren’t that helpful and they were very different than the real thing). My goal was to work up my stamina to be able to answer 50 questions without needing a break (aka five minutes to stare into space before continuing). I also kept time management in mind. I didn’t get a passing score until my very last practice test, so don’t stress if you don’t get the scores you want at first.
Finally, do NOT study the day before the exam. Flip through your notes if you must, but spend the final 24 hours on taking care of yourself and boosting your confidence. You know the information. You’ve studied this information for the past two or more years. You survived fieldwork, so you know that you’re a good OT. All that’s left is to do the thing.
I know I just dumped a LOT at you all at once, but seriously, don’t stress about this! Focus on your fieldwork. When the time comes to prepare for the NBCOT, you’ll be ready. I hope this answered your question, and took some of the mystery out of the certification exam!
Good luck on the last few weeks of your rotation and on your capstone internship!

Bond University’s Master of Occupational Therapy accredited in USA
Great news for our American students! Bond University’s Master of Occupational Therapy program has become the only Australian master’s program of its kind to be accredited in the United States.Learn more about Bond University’s Master of Occupational Therapy program
The program, which has been granted candidacy status by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), is one of just two programs outside America to gain US accreditation.
From September 2022, current and future Master of Occupational Therapy students will have their degrees recognized in the US and will be automatically eligible to sit the US national certification examination for occupational therapists administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
After successful completion of this exam, they will be an occupational therapist, registered (OTR) in the US.
The Master of Occupational Therapy graduate-entry program is also approved by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia and is recognized by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT).
Bond’s head of occupational therapy, Professor Susan Brandis, said this AOTA accreditation was great news for Bond’s current and future students with aspirations to practice internationally.
“Demand for occupational therapists has continued to skyrocket globally, most recently as a result of the longer-term effects of COVID,” Professor Brandis said. “As one of the fastest-growing careers in Australia and the US, OTs are in high demand in hospitals, schools, and aged-care facilities; pediatric, disability and rehabilitation environments.
“This accreditation is great news for our small but diverse international cohort of Bond MOT students, who want to study, adventure, and experience a great lifestyle here on the beautiful Gold Coast.
“Our experienced international academic staff provide personalized mentoring and support, to ensure our students’ experience is second to none. Their master’s degree from Bond University then becomes their passport to pursue an exciting and rewarding career in occupational therapy, anywhere in the world.”
Earlier in 2022, Bond added a Graduate Diploma in Occupation and Health to its suite of occupational therapy offerings. Last year, Bond University’s Master of Nutrition and Dietetic Practice also gained US Accreditation.

tw - stalking, unhealthy relationships, mentions of masturbation, obsessive behavior, and medical malpractice galore.
Harper is the kind of man who can't help but study what he loves.
It's a bad habit - an unfortunate combination of natural curiosity and burning academic passion that always seems to end with a mess and a few broken toys. A childhood fascination with insects might lead to shoeboxes full of tattered wings and twitching bodies. A passing interest in hemogobular coagulation would be poured into a university internship that gave him access to more pints of blood than he knew what to do with, despite his best attempts to put it all to good use. A lasting fondness for hypnosis could, theoretically, earn him a small collection of pocket watches, a soothing timbre that often played underneath his passive speaking voice, and a few asylum patients too far gone to ever truly recover.
His research wasn't always destructive, but it could be. His love tended to veer towards obsession; the kind of burning infatuations that could leave more than a little devastation in its wake, if he wasn't careful. A measured amount of collateral damage was acceptable, compared to the alternative.
He studies you, too. Idly, at first - nothing more than an intrusive thought allowed to fester during your all-too-infrequent appointments, a quick jolt of excitement when he noticed your name on his schedule - then more consciously, in the form of an extra question asked at the very end of his time with you, a note tacked onto your file that doesn't strictly have to do with your health. His chances for observation are limited. You rarely make it to your therapy sessions, no matter how often he insists you should see him, and you're sturdier than he'd like, too used to being thrown around and mistreated to come running to him every time you scrape your knees. That's something he decides he doesn't like about you fairly early on. Part of a case study is deciding which parts of your subject will need to be adapted, and even you aren't beyond correction.
He records your reactions to his mis-prescribed medication with a religious sort of zealousness, reviews your symptoms and lab results while fucking his fist in-time with your pulse. He makes sure to visit your bedside personally whenever you find your way into his emergency room, and you're rewarded for your newfound attentiveness with a healthy supply of shots that leave you too removed from reality to remember your time on his examination table. Harper's always preferred the written word, but he find himself with a budding appreciation for film during his nightly evaluation of your records. His memory is keen enough, but there's nothing quite like being able to study your body detail by detail whenever he isn't fortunate enough to have access to the real thing.
He thinks, as he watches a pair of his nurses drag you through the asylum doors, that it might be time to start the next leg of his study. Studying is useful, but you've always benefited from more proactive measures, more personal attention. It'd be a discredit to his occupation if he was too preoccupied with his own little pleasures to see to the needs of his favorite patient.
It's far past time he moved on to more hands-on research methods, when it comes to you.

Back to Sleep (18+)
Tumblr media
A little something to try to get back into writing - let me know what you think! 18+ only! This is not edited, so please excuse any glaring issues.
Title: Back to Sleep Ain't sorry that I woke ya. WC: 1839
“Baby, you almost done?” Jake asked from the kitchen, where he’s just finished loading the dishwasher and wiping down the counters. “Come on, let’s be couch potatoes,” he insists.
It’s tempting, it really is, but you’ve got so much work to get done to stay ahead of schedule. Perched at the dining room table, your hair was tossed up in a ponytail as you focused on the laptop ahead. Yes, you were first in your class in your occupational therapy program, but final exams were coming and you were gunning for the number-one spot.
“You go ahead and I’ll meet you,” you said, tipping your head back for your fiancé to plant a quick kiss on your lips.
“You’ve been studying like a maniac for weeks,” Jake pointed out, one hand gripping the back of your chair and the other braced on the corner of the dining table, “one night isn’t going to break your streak – exam isn’t for a few weeks, still.”
“I know, I promise, give me thirty minutes,” you insisted, looking up at him through your blue light glasses that you knew he loved.
“Thirty minutes,” he repeated, kissing you again.
But thirty minutes came and went, and you were still staring intently at your computer. Admittedly, Jake got swept up in Thursday Night Football, and at halftime, he shook out of it.
“Excuse me,” he called from over the back of the couch, “Where is my fiancé?” He asked. You peeled your eyes off of your study cards, pushing your glasses up the bridge of your nose.
“Twenty more minutes!” You called back, tucking your hair behind your ear. But as twenty minutes passed once again, you found Jake dragging your chair back from the table. “Jake, please, I’m on a roll,” you whined. You barely had time to grab up your notecards before Jake lifted you from the chair to bring you over to the sofa.
“You can study from the couch if you must,” he said, only somewhat dramatically.
And that’s how the evening progressed, with you flipping through notes and Jake’s arm firmly around your shoulder as the clock ticked later and later. Soon, you were yawning and focusing more on the back of your eyelids than your flashcards.
“Jake,” you murmured, eyes still shut. “I gotta sleep,” you said, reaching over and patting him on the stomach twice.
“I’m going to finish the game, be up in a second,” he assured. You dropped another sweet kiss on his lips before making your way upstairs, flashcards in hand. After changing into a pair of Jake’s boxer briefs and a big t-shirt, you crawled into bed, still flipping through your notes.
Jake was surprised to see you still awake when he came up to bed about forty-five minutes later. Leaving the bathroom door open, he quickly showered and brushed his teeth
“Baby, time for bed,” he gently plucked the cards out of your fingers, tossing them onto his nightstand. You groaned quietly but snuggled up to his side instead. You’d been hitting the books hard and it was finally catching up to you. Jake’s warm, vetiver skin lulled you quickly to sleep.
However, much later, during the wee hours of the night, Jake awoke to find your side of the bed empty. His eyes strained in the dark night and if he listened carefully, he could hear the soft clicking of a keyboard.
“You gotta be kidding me,” Jake muttered, wiping at his eyes as he rolled out of bed, lazily pulling his sweatpants up his hips to pull the drawstring tight. He padded down the stairs to see you yet again perched at the dining room table, the chandelier above dimmed to the lowest setting. “What are you doing?” He asked, eyes still adjusting to the light, “it’s almost three in the morning.”
You jumped at the sound of his voice, turning to see your fiancé frowning at you in the soft light.
“I know, but I had a dream that I showed up for exam day and couldn’t remember the steps to the malleability scale and I woke up panicking,” you listed off. “I just thought if I could re-arrange some of these class notes into a more visual aid, it would help me remember,” you gestured to the computer, a giant yawn overtaking your face.
“Babe, it’s time for bed,” Jake said, stepping closer. You protectively splayed your hands across your notebook on the table.
“I’m not done,” you said quietly, looking up at him with wide eyes.
Jake reached over closing your laptop.
“You’re done. Bed, now,” he ordered, which gave you a little shiver, but you complied nonetheless – dragging your feet down the hall. Luckily for you, you could turn the brightness down on your phone and run through the study guide your leading MD sent out.
After tucking into bed yet again, Jake rolled over, invading your space.
“Phone,” he said, holding out his empty palm.
“Jake,” you began to protest. He tipped his chin up in a challenge. “I need it for my alarm,” you weakly argued.
“We have an alarm clock and I’ll make sure you’re up,” he reassured as you reluctantly placed your phone in his hand. Jake rolled over, his back to you as he set your phone on the side table before snuggling down into the mattress.
“M’not even tired,” you lied with a petulant tone. Jake rolled his eyes, not that you could see it. You spent the next minute being dramatic, sighing heavily and flipping all around to find a comfortable position.
“Baby, go to sleep,” Jake grumbled. You glared at his back for a moment before flopping on your back, arms crossed over your chest, staring at the ceiling. You wondered if you could remember what the study guide looked like from memory.
A few beats passed.
“I swear to god just you being awake like this is keeping me up,” Jake said with finality, rolling over to face you, a stern expression on his face.
“You could have kept sleeping if you just left me alone at the table,” you pointed out.
“You have to sleep or that pretty little brain aint’ gonna remember shit,” he countered, nearly taunting. With a huff, you turned to face away from him, lying on your hip with one knee bent up.
“M’not even tired,” you mumbled again. Ten seconds later, you jumped when you felt Jake’s full body pressing into you from behind.
“You’re not even tired, huh?” Jake asked, knowing damn well you were just being a brat.
“No,” you grumbled, trying to keep in a squeal as his stubble scraped against your neck.
“You want me to put you to sleep?” He breathed into your ear, big hand landing on your upper thigh, just below where his boxer briefs had ridden up your leg with all your tossing and turning.
“You can’t,” you replied, still feeling put off by Jake confiscating your flashcards.
“Sure I can,” he said, hips shifting so you could feel his soft erection against you.
“Bet I can get you to sleep in twenty minutes,” he murmured, pressing a kiss behind your ear.
“Not even tired,” you tried not to gasp as his fingertips slipped below the stretchy band of your borrowed shorts.
“How can you be tired when you’re this wet?” He asked, swiping his fingers through your sex, making you huff.
“You know I like those boxers on you,” you muttered, embarrassed, but at least you were honest. “You’re on the clock, Hangman,” you reminded. Jake gladly cradled your clit between his two fingers, rolling them up and down against your skin. The way you almost avoided his touch by pressing your hips down into the mattress made him grin. Sometimes it was almost too easy. You frowned softly into your pillow as you felt Jake’s hand retreat from your body, but squealed as he quickly dragged the waistband of his boxers all the way down to your ankles.
Jake softly huffed as he pressed his blunt tip against your sex, jaw clenching at the resistance as he sunk in further and further. Turning him further beneath you, your front was pressed down into the mattress.
“How’s that, hmm?” He murmured in your ear. “Gonna listen to me when I tell you to go to sleep, smart girl?” You simply whined gently at the feeling as he filled you. “You hear me?” He asked, knowing he was being haughty.
“Yeah,” you whispered, pushing your hips back against him. Jake reached underneath you, palming your breast in his hand as he continued to fuck you gently down into the mattress. “Jake,” you huffed softly.
“I know, pretty girl,” he cooed patronizingly. “Put you right back to sleep tonight,” he snapped his hips, making you jump. His hand traveled down your stomach, the other braced against the bed so he didn’t squish you entirely, to find your clit again, and gently circling it.
You could feel it start to tickle at the soles of your feet – a telltale sign of impending orgasm.
“More,” you murmured, eyes shutting gently both from pleasure and pure exhaustion.
“More?” Jake asked, pulling his hand out from between your body and the mattress, dipping his fingers in his mouth as his hips continued their steady thrusts. Zeroing in on your clit once more, he knew you were getting close – after this long together, he could read you like a book. He didn’t mind, he was close as well. “Going to fill you right up with a sleeping pill,” he didn’t care that he sounded corny, he was putting his money where his mouth was. One more strategic roll of his fingers and you were fluttering around Jake’s cock, toes curled tight at the end of the bed.
“There we go,” Jake grunted, meeting his own orgasm as he pumped into you dutifully. “That’s a good girl,” he exhaled.
You hated it when Jake was right, because now, your eyelids felt like they were being weight down with bags of cement. Whining once more as he withdrew, you jumped when he tapped the head of his spent cock against your clit.
“Wait right here, precious,” he said, pressing a kiss to the round of your hip.
As if you were going anywhere now. Somewhere in the recesses of your mind, you knew an alarm was set for the morning, because now you simply couldn’t be bothered to lift your head from the pillow.
“Warmed it up for you, baby,” Jake murmured as a warning before a wet washcloth swiped through your folds. “I know, I know,” he hushed. Jake wiped himself down before padding across the room to drop the towel in the laundry hamper.
Crawling back onto the mattress, he threw a blanket over the two of you, double checking his alarm once more before tossing an arm over your waist. Your lashes laid across your cheekbones in pure serenity as you entered deep sleep.
“Thought you weren’t tired, huh?”
