From the moment Cucurucho appeared, I have loved that freaky bear thing

Cucurucho (and the federation) has so much horror potential that is not talked about nearly enough. There's all this awesome creepy fanart of Cucurucho, but the pure horror potential I-

Of course, from the beginning, Quesadilla Island and the Federation have been very similar to communist propaganda, what with the happy go lucky Pato (and admins) giving them steadfast rules with extreme consequences, "I hope you enjoy the island", the census bureau, so much stuff being "classified" and don't even get me started on the happy pills. But this type of behavior has such a psychological horror feel; what specifically gets me thinking all the time is that phrase "I hope you enjoy the island". It's so fucking ominous, especially if you imagine Cucurucho as this Clearly Not Right but is Pretending creature--which you don't even have to, the QSMP did a fantastic job of presenting them that way anyway--the phrase is framed as something positive but is sooooo eerie and👏 I live 👏 for 👏 that 👏 shit👏.

Obviously, I have to acknowledge poor horror protag Cellbit, who's absolutely going through it, but the whole server has huge madness and phobia horror themes, and even home invasion/survival themes in a twisted way, as well as, all together science experiment horror.

The madness/phobia horror subgenre focuses on the effect the situation has on the characters more than any actual killing that may happen. Of course, murder is an excellent scare tactic in this genre, similar to, again, uber controlling governments that "make people disappear" or outright show off execution as a control method. This subgenre is about characters going insane, what drives people to do terrible or desperate things. In this way, the eggs are a huge factor.

Everything about the wall and not being able to leave the island sets up for a claustrophobic, trapped feeling. You are not in control, something something about fragile birds and freedom versus big predators--the Federation is in control. The admins and the code monsters and faceless and named federation workers, the happy pills or outright killing and torturing people, everything you do is either allowed or not by the Federation. It breeds resentment, prompts people to explore and rebel, so the players were given the eggs. It worked as a fantastic distraction, and everyone grew incredibly attached to them, like they were supposed to. This is where home invasion/survival type horror begins to tie in, but I'll get to that.

By the way, has anyone else ever been suspicious about the eggs coming from the Federation and what that could mean for their trustworthiness? I'm not talking about the eggs becoming code monsters, that's sort of a different thing, I mean as the eggs, in everybody's homes and personal lives, they have free access to everything on the island.

The players settled down. They built homes, they made lives for themselves and tasks were required to do to keep the eggs alive, like what happens when people have children for real. It forced them to become familiar and complacent on the island and gave them every reason not to leave.

I don't need to explain the impact that all had, almost every action is driven by the eggs, for the eggs, for family. The way everyone reacted when the eggs got taken, then again, and the desperation everyone has to get them back safe, such as Philza Minecraft willingly walking himself into a trap just for the chance of finding Chayanne.

The Federation can just take away the eggs at any time. They can take away the players' security, autonomy, create mode, etc. What strikes me though is the way the plot has progressed so far, and that's what makes it science experimentation horror.

First, we start with Cucurucho again--emotionless, detached, sterile and white colors/coding, and what is their job? To collect data on the players. Cucurucho has shown up several times throughout the QSMP, including before the eggs ever came into play, as a worker for the census bureau.

The eggs require regular tasks with increasing difficulty, which could be viewed as similar to scientists working with animals seeing how they perform and complete specific activities, like a mouse running through more difficult mazes to find cheese. Then, players get more complicated and specific tasks and no one gets to know why/what they're for usually.

Remember the first time the eggs disappeared, we were afraid they would never come back? I was surprised that they did. I think events like this are the big tests, and maybe it was just me, but it feels like the eggs are being taken and allowed back, not like the players have any actual affect on the situation.

It would be remiss not to mention the backstory that's slowly being uncovered and how some players are being outright experimented on or manipulated by the Federation. Jaiden as Bluebird plus Baghera and Quackity, Cellbit's interactions with Cucurucho and Forever and Pac on the happy pills. Speaking of, I'm so incredibly curious to see what's going to happen to Philza now  👀 👀

The Federation has had very limited interactions with the players and usually through representatives or proxies. They're kind of like a hand of God coming down to mess with stuff whenever they see fit, or again, like scientists, watching and controlling and taking notes. What all for?????? This would also explain Cucurucho's pure hatred of Tubbo--Cellbit was expected, and his investigations were only going so far, then he is easily put back in his place with a little scare, or gets preoccupied (oh how easily Roier could be used against him). Tubbo on the other hand, came out of nowhere. He's a chaotic little anomaly of their new test subjects and doesn't take time to cautiously settle into the island, not to mention he presents as harmless, which was how he got the better of Cucurucho in the first place. Who knows what he could do to the other characters and the Federation's experiments?

It's also worth mentioning that the whole setting is an island. Meaning even though the players can't escape, there are other people/land out there, but the players are in a secluded, controlled environment.

Lastly, "islands" (enviornments that are isolated for the duration of the media in some way) are a main setting of horror and specifically home invasion/survival horror. Similar to phobia/madness horror, home invasion/survival horror focuses more on the buildup before the attack, the characters being watched and the subsequent affect. It also relies on the characters having a a place they feel safe or something/someone they want to protect. That’s what the QSMp created when they gave the players the eggs. Even though the players are on the Federation’s island, they’ve been forced to make homes there and made connections with each other and with their kids. Then, the monsters attack. Monsters that didn’t show up in the very beginning, progressively getting worse and targeting the eggs. It’s like the characters have been dropped on the island just to be food or playthings for the creatures. The characters get high security doors and windows and reinforced blocks, they get powerful weapons. Then there’s the code, and the Federation itself, tearing into the characters’ lives and families, no matter what they do, they’re never safe. There is no sense of security and I think even with Etoiles getting the code monster’s sword and every advancement the players make, it won’t be enough. Not to mention, Philza, one of the best survivalist, innovative and fighter players just got kidnapped.

Lastly, Cucurucho said the eggs left because there was something worse than the Federation on the island. That statement is terrifying on it’s own, but it fits right in with this au genre of horror—the assailants don’t show their faces until near the end of the story, and not only do we know very little about the Federation still, but this new threat looms, completely unknown.

Ok, ok, I know I got way off topic of Cucurucho, but like I said, since they first showed up, the QSMP has had fantastic horror potential, that it’s living up to, we just don’t talk about it much.

tysm, sweet bean! as i am wont to do, i went a bit left field. hope that’s okay 😵‍💫 tbh, this one was actually really difficult for me to attempt in drabble format because those things feel so opposite to me and would normally justify a lot more backstory, i think?? but i loved the challenge!! i went more with a “life decided we are enemies” kind of thing.

Jungkook hisses as he tightens the belt around his bicep. Not far below it, invisible with the deep black of his jacket, is proof that he isn’t invincible after all. In fact, he bleeds much more freely than anyone else you’d ever met — or, more specifically, anyone else you’d ever shot.

Clipped, rather. The bullet barely grazed him.

He sits two meters away, half-slumped and wholly displeased. Between you, there’s a spent shell casing — your last — that had previously been sitting pretty in a magazine, itself nestled in a pistol once strapped snugly against your right thigh. The gun was confiscated and that thigh strap is useless now, just like the black denim underneath it; the turtleneck sweater above it; and the radiator behind you that likely hasn’t worked at any point in your lifetime.

Cold concrete nips at your ass despite your jeans and you shiver. As it saps what’s left of your body heat, makes the back of your thighs tingle until they’re numb, you do your best to squeeze yourself tighter. You can’t reduce your surface area to zero, but if you shrink as much as is physically possible, you can try your best to keep warm.

For the same reason, you can’t lean your exhausted body against the stone wall behind you, but you can crumple forward and rest against the bent knees you clutch to your chest. You can’t stop glancing at him out of the corner of your eye, either, but you can use the fallout from your ponytail as cover and pretend that you aren’t.

Suffice to say, this was not how your night was supposed to go.

“Worst fucking shot I’ve ever seen in my life,” Jungkook mutters through gritted teeth for what you imagine to be the hundredth time. His scoff is visible when it hits the air; his rage doesn’t dissipate the way his breath does. “Kim was right there and you hit me instead? Unbelievable.”

You don’t respond.

If you unclench your jaw to do so, the chattering of your teeth might reduce them to dust in your mouth.

Without your cell phone, you can’t tell how much time passes while you sit in silence. You can’t confirm your suspicion that the temperature outside has, in fact, dipped far below zero. Similarly, you can’t tell if anyone stuck around after locking you in this basement to see how long it would take for the cold to take you out — or to finish the job themselves if you beat the odds.

Jungkook huffs as he shifts in place. Now, with his back resting uncomfortably against the wall, he glares headlong at you. Unfortunately for him, looks can’t kill.

If they could, you wouldn’t be in this mess.

Against your better judgment — again — you give in to the primal part of your brain that begs for self-preservation. Your muscles are stiff after so much time spent in knots, and they ache as you push yourself off the ground. Your joints protest too, clicking uncomfortably as they resettle. Wordlessly, you ignore the confusion knitting Jungkook’s brows together and cross over to him.

When you reach him, you drop into the space at his side — his good side — and lean against the arm that isn’t trying hard to clot. He doesn’t flinch or attempt to move away, either because he doesn’t have the energy or because he wants to live, too. So, you rest your head against his shoulder and your eyes drift shut as your combined warmth starts to soothe. Eventually, his cheek claims the top of your head. You have to glance up at him to confirm that this is a choice and not a sign.

Still breathing.

For now.

He doesn’t because it isn’t.

You’re an expert marksman — the best of the best — and you don’t miss. Because he knows that, he now knows that your failure to take down the target wasn’t an accident; it was an illusion. Worse, it was a blatant refusal to carry out a direct order. One he gave to you because he’d wholeheartedly believed that you, more than anyone else, could be trusted.

Not like Jungkook, who isn’t the surreptitious infiltrator he thinks he is; and who still doesn’t grasp the rules or the stakes of the game he’s playing.

Who doesn’t know that the purpose of this errand wasn’t to kill a member of the Kim family; or that he was never meant to leave this warehouse with you.

Who will likely die regardless of your subtle attempt to dodge that outcome; and who — like you — didn’t plan more than two steps ahead.

Whose hatred for you and all you stood for was predetermined by circumstance; and who doesn’t know that you know.

Castle Swimmer is so freaking good and here's why:

Has multiple forms of representation that isn't used for plot drama and includes various of groups.

Sick ass character designs that range from multiple species and gives the characters unique designs.

ISN'T SEXUALIZED!! One of the few comics with a gay couple that actually had time to develop and doesn't include sexual scenes because being gay doesn't mean you have a crave for spicy stuff.

A REALLY good plot that has many twists and turns that keeps you on your toes and wanting to see what happens next.

WELL DONE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT 👏👏.

The author/artist uses their platform to spread awareness for endangered species and how to help so an awesome author/artist for an awesome story.

The art style is just perfection and makes for an easy read and you don't have to decipher a code to tell what the character is feeling.

Pretty awesome community with majority of them being respectful towards the author/artist and their creations.

So this some of the few but also major reasons why Castle Swimmer is one of the best comics that I have ever read and think that's out there.

Alright enough reading other people’s Dndads rants; time to put some skin in the game just to get this word vomit out of my head and into the internet void:

Despite my attitude going into season 2 telling me I needed to see each and every beloved NPC from season 1 come back, I regret to say I was super disappointed with Scam Likely’s comeback.

Now, I am willing to acknowledge I’m biased seeing as Scam’s Girl From Ipanema cover is quite literally my ringtone; HOWEVER, it took all the wind out of my sails to see that this season’s Scam was nothing more than to give Hermie some development. Hermie apparently needed another father to hate and more reasons to be sad, which I don’t even think is true. Hermie is nowhere near Paeden status as far as NPCs goes, but he had a shit ton of potential to be a scene stealer if everyone would remember he existed long enough to give him interesting moments or god forbid give Will the gay romance he’s been deprived of for 2 seasons (@literalgaypersonanthonyburch🪦)

The choice to make Scam and Jodie Hermie’s parents as a random ass pull from Anthony was a delicious stroke of genius fuckery in my personal opinion. It started as a one-off insane reveal and I almost cried laughing when I found out. THIS is the absolute baffoonery that Scam deserved to expand upon if he had to come back for season 2. Hello! Anon from before! Comment you say comment you get! I was positively swiped out from the ground with the whole fic, but this chapter? *Chefs kiss* The plot twist with Moon knowing language better than we thought is a really nice touch, I plan on rereading the fic with this new perspective in mind! I didn't really thought about the fact that Sun could use English much better. I just thought their skills are different there but nope. Moon is just a little drama queen. I love that you included "healthy relationship" beetwen Moon and Y/n, when they found out he can talk they were slightly irritated by it and expressed that but almost imidiatly (now they are sure he will understand complicated sentences) explains the situation and what they are feeling. Because ladies and gentlemen communication is the key 👏 👏 👏 Moon expressing himself with his thoughts about reader seeing him as a dumb animal or trying to tame him is also a nice touch that isn't really used in other fics I've read, If some alien thing appeared near my house and started trying to teach me to speak or to do some tricks I would be also offended. The no bullshit attitude is mu h needed fuck the little misunderstandings let's talk openly like a good couple fishman.

I also love the fact that even that y/n now can communicate with Moon and wants to get to know him they are still pretty cautious. As they explained its not easy to overcome first impressions especially when there have been their lives on the plate(in their eyes). I would love to see them warming up to each other! Which is already happening and I think it's so so cute they are both trying really hard to make it work.

The romance is just pure gold. I was squeaking with the whole bracelet thing. My man Moon got send to his namesake I'm sure he was seeing his kids with y/n get away to fish college at this moment keke. It's very cute that y/n regifted something as precious as shell to him. I am assuming the shell that he made himself and spend lots of time on is some courting proposal. So him getting something crafted with equal effort by his Brat will give him ideas. Good. We want more. I think you are great at creating tension and writing some really cute fluffy moments, as well as the more intimate ones. I love how you write y/n her personality, and reasoning. You created a great character that despite some strong character its still pretty easy to put yourself in their shoes.

The fact that Moon noticed marks after webbing on y/n hands is also interesting. I wonder what he thinks right now and what will he do with that information. Also I am hoping he didn't misunderstood that Sun was the one to rip them out. Coz when he asked of the reason they are gone we just started blabbering about the yellow mermaid and that they didn't really mean it .

I'm very curious about Sun and Moon relationship, for sure it's not bad as Moon said himself ,, he is mine,, ,,my Sun". It's intriguing what they are to each other. I feel bad for the guy he a little lonely boy with too much energy that gets into your personal bubble but he means well. I hope we will get to meet him officaly soon and that Moon after learning about our meeting will put some information about his human friend into his Sun so he will know better than to almost drown them hahah.

I really enjoyed the way you pictured Glamrocks and I was shocked when you said you are not very skilled in writing them. The dialogues for each of them works really well and you kept their personalities just perfect in my eyes. I was mesmerised how smoothly I went through this chapter and how many emotions it got from me. The dynamic in the team is great and they just appeared and with small nudges and small talks from you we can already tell or at least predict so much about them.

Of course we can't forget about Vanessa, she would never let us forget. But what amazes me is how you were able to create such a mixed feelings towards this character in me. I am a first person to throw someone into the jerk category fast but with her I keep changing my mind. She is very well written, annoying but you can sometimes see a little bit of the other side. There is clearly something wrong with her, with her hallucinations and paranoia. Also the fear of mer might play the role here with the big bad trap boi. As much as I want to showe her head into a grinder every second she appears I also get amused, such an interesting character. And this is all thanks to you those types are very hard to write. It only shows how big of a talent you posses.

I very much enjoy the relationship beetwen y/n and Bon Bon. Little siblings that bicker with each other all the time but when one of them shows up with dead man in the middle of the night they will help them dug the grave hahaha The personality you gave him is astonishing and enduring. I didn't read a lot about Bon Bon but know your version of him is my headcanon and lives rent free in my head haha. The little soft moments with reader that ends up in jesting are really heart-warming.

I am also very curious about Monty. Can he communicate with mers? I have a feeling some yellow fella got pretty excited that there is some possible friend nearby. Ahh I love Sun so much I want to cuddle him. All he wants is snuggles but all he gets is struggles.

The length of the chapter is a blessing I needed some good stuff to relax into and let my mind flow which you were able to provide so thank you. I mean it with my heart when I say you are very talented. This fic is well organised, with a good balance of all aspects that keeps you entertained. From the beginning I didn't skip any paragraph (which I admit is my sinful behaviour where something in the fic bores me ) and even rereaded to whole thing in the matter of days. I couldn't keep myself away trying to find something I might have missed amd relived the events once again. I love your version of the boys, the Moon being the first to open up and fall for reader is a nice change (where in most fics he is the one more cautious). I fell in love with him and his behaviour a big teasing, lovesick softy. It must have shocked him when reader's antena went missing haha.

Your addictions at the end of the chapters are so cute and bring me so much joy. I love your little ,,memes" and that sometimes it gives us the glimpse of others perspective. I can't recall which but some of your jokes from previous chapters got me laughing so hard. And stayed in my head that at the random moment hours later I would start chuckling. So thank you for that. Thank you for creating this fic and keeping working on it. I can say it's one of my favourites and we are only on the 10 chapter! This chapter was a blast that i will have to reread soon. Hey there! First of all, thank you so much for asking, and sorry for keeping you waiting for so many days! 😅

It kinda depends on your taste or what you're looking for! For instance, if you're into 2D/platform games, you should definitely try Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World! I'd say they're the best classical 2D Mario games, with lots of different levels, secrets, power-ups and of course, lots and lots of fun! ✨

In case you'd rather play a 3D/exploration game, I'd go with Super Mario Odyssey indeed! It's such an AMAZING game! 🤩 The kingdoms are very varied, wide and beautiful, there are lots of minigames during the adventure, and there are also maaaaaany easter eggs from other Mario games, which could make you want to try some of them as well 🤭 I also love the way Mario Odyssey, despite being a 3D game, includes some 2D parts as well. It's so perfect! 👏✨

Also: yes, Mario can change his outfit. And yes, he can dress as a bride. Best outfit in the game indeed! 👏

And last but not least, if you're into RPG games, you have a bunch of games to choose from! The original one was Super Mario RPG, which recently got its own remake for Nintendo Switch, and there's also the Paper Mario series, from which I absolutely LOVE the first three games, being my personal favorite Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Which is getting a remake this year, btw! Can't wait to replay it! 🤩✨

Continuing with the RPGs, I cannot leave without mentioning my very first and favorite Mario RPG game ever: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. This game was released 20 years ago for GBA and got a remake in 2017 (I believe) for 3DS, and it's now available to play through Nintendo Switch Online, and I'm giving it my millionth replay because I LOVE it! It's full of humor, originality, a very interesting story full of plot twists, amazing and charismatic characters (Prince Peasley my beloved!), and best of all: sweet and cute moments between the most adorable brothers EVER! 🥹❤💚 It's absolute PERFECTION, so if you're into RPG games, I highly recommend you give it a try! 🤩✨

Of course, out of the main 2D/3D Mario games and the RPGs, you also have some spin offs like Mario Kart, Mario Party, Mario Tennis... I'd personally go with Mario Kart 8 for Switch and Mario Kart for GBA, and Mario Tennis for Game Boy and GBA, since they're so much fun! I'm not much into Mario Party games, but I've enjoyed the ones I've played, so I'd recommend you check them out and see for yourself which one catches your attention! 🥰

And of course, there's the Luigi's Mansion series! It's about catching ghosts in haunted mansions, and there are three of them. The first one holds a very special place in my heart, and the second one is getting a remake this summer, but I'd say the third one is my favorite, and the most complete out of the three! It's also a 3D/exploration game, and it has lots of puzzles to solve and 15 different floors to explore, so check it out as well if you haven't yet! 🥰

And Luigi is such a cutie OMG 😭💚✨

So yeah! I know this is kind of a wide answer with lots of options, but I guess I'd recommend you a game for each category, as it all depends on what you're more interested in 🥰

So like, can we address this?

so like, as a Pokémon lover, I’ve been getting the games since I was waaaaay little. My first game ever was sapphire, and I can personally rank moon as one of my top 5 games of all time. Pokémon’s story has always been a bit of a hit or miss with me *cough x and y cough sword and shield* but I was COMPLETELY unprepared for scarlet and violet. (For those wondering I got scarlet but I do not judge y’all violet stans)

like, that game took me so off guard. I was hyped (duh) but sword kinda left a little bit of a bitter taste in my mouth story-wise. Like, all the pieces were there, you……just……forgot half of them and tried to pass it off as complete.

but scarlet? HOO BOYO SCARLET. Not only did they deliver one of, if not the greatest plots ever, I have never been more closer to any Pokemon characters.

Nemona? Easily one of the best and most well written rivals out there. She isn’t a stereotypical “I hate you and hope you suffer and will beat your sorry behind into the ground 😡”, type rival, but instead she’s just an ordinary girl who’s incredibly skilled at battling, but no longer can properly battle bc no one wants too. She purposely picks the weaker starter so you can get stronger quicker and be able to battle her! Her final fight had me grinning all the way through it, and her genuine, pure and utter JOY at you winning is such a sweet and endearing trait.

penny? Gosh darn did they do the introvert community justice. She is not only a great “serious and sarcastic” character, but the entire team star story was so so so wholesome. Her story about being bullied but also connecting with her friends and forming team star and also being the one to take it down once she realizes her mistake is incredible, and the way she defended team star until the end is just one of the millions of things I like about her! (AlsoherfinalbattlemusicSLAPS-)

I-I cannot even BEGIN to stress how incredible arven is. Pokémon dealing with abusive parents is nothing new, but yet it feels so RAW where he is involved. Like, dude, this guy was raised by a DOG. A FREAKING DOG WAS A BETTER PARENT THAN HIS OWN BIOLOGICAL PARENTS. His whole setup to be the snarky, silver-esque type rival was executed perfectly, and I promise you every person who’s ever played proceeded to do all of the titans the MOMENT mabosstiff came into the picture. (And I promise those same people cried when he finally stood up). And not only that, but from what the game implies, (or at least what I took from it) his parents didn’t actually care, and in all the limited contact he had with the sada/turo AI, they began to care for him as if they were his real parent. Meaning that an AI and a dog cared more for him than his mom and dad. Not even that, but he has to go through the trauma of learning his parents were freaking DEAD, he had a creature wearing his moms/dads face say IN THEIR VOICE,

“I love you.”

only to then immediately lose them too.

everyone just give a round of applause to this boi for being such a trooper and being so loveable despite everything.

but like, that’s barely anything. All the other characters were epic, the soundtrack was phenomenal, the plot twists expertly executed, like fr, this has been the best Pokémon game story-wise in AGES.
