The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang
This rebind was done for a friend part of the LGBTQ Valentine's Rebind Exchange hosted by the amazing Instagram Binding Community.
The graphic novel tells the story of a prince, a dressmaker, of gender queerness and being comfortable in your own skin.
About the rebind: ✦ Duo bookcloth ✦ Illustration is based off a panel from the graphic novel ✦ took me two true-crime podcast episodes to glue all the gems on

Semi-Finals Bracket 2
Propaganda under the cut, feel free to add more in comments or reblogs
The Prince and The Dressmaker – Prince Sebastian’s parents are looking for an eligible bride for their son, when this is the furthest thing from what Sebastian wants. During the day he plays the part of a diligent, loving and somewhat bored prince for his parents and people, but in the night he is Lady Crystallia, the height of fashion. Only two people know his secret, his secret that makes him feel so confident in his body.
The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System – Shen Yuan hates the popular stallion webnovel, My Immortal Demon Way, it has an online cult following and the protagonist has a harem in the triple digits. Worst of all, it’s basically glorified porn, and a terrible male fantasy with an OP protagonist. So imagine his surprise when after degrading the author, he wakes up in the universe of My Immortal Demon Way, as the first villain, Shen Qingqui aka Luo Binghe’s teacher. Shen rushes to find a way to save his ass from the protagonist’s fury at the end of the novel. Little does he know, Luo Binghe is crushing on him. Hard.

So I just finished reading through the graphic novel "The Prince and the Dressmaker" by Jen Wang.
Tumblr media
It's about this prince, Sebastian, who secretly likes to crossdress (and is probably genderfluid, considering how he. Or they, maybe? Talks about why. The story never really clarifies, though), and hires this one seamstress, Frances, to make dresses for him so he can go out under an assumed name and model her designs. They also have feelings for each other, as you might have guessed, though given the differences in their classes, that's difficult to act on.
...yeah I'm shocked I haven't seen a Miraculous Ladybug AU of this yet. I was getting Marinette and Adrien vibes the whole time, though thankfully Sebastian's parents are nowhere near as bad as Gabriel.

funny misspellings aside. what's your favorite thing about your comic?
This is a scary question because that means I have to pick a singular favorite. So I guess I'll pick a few of my most recent reads ::P
In general, I enjoy the art. I feel like that's an obvious answer because otherwise I'd just read a regular book lmfao. But I have aphantasia and adhd, so ordinary books are nice but I find them stressful and confusing sometimes. But this is more why I prefer the medium as a whole and not just individual stories.
As for my more specific favorites like The Peculiar Compendium of Victor Van Wolfe or V for Vendetta, I'm more drawn to the actual writing than the art. You could have the best art in the world, but I still wouldn't enjoy it if the story was just mediocre. Moor and Rizzo are both very talented writers and very wonderful at creating an estranging yet immmerseive read. I also prize comics like this and even simpler ones like The Prince and the Dressmaker because of their diversity. Comics are a very accessible form of media for artists which means that I can enjoy more raw and unfiltered stories from the diverse writers that I love.

Top 5 queer books i read in 2022:
1) the prince and the dressmaker - Jen Wang
this comic is pure and heartwarming and healing and every queer kid should have it. it is about friendship and love and being yourself and overcoming fears and hatred. and the illustrations are amazing.
2) the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo - Taylor Jenkins Reid
this book had me by the throat. 80-something (fictional) Oscar-winning actress Evelyn Hugo tells the story of her life. it's beautiful and it hurts but leaves your heart so full.
3) The factory witches of Lowell - C.S. Malerich
this novella has everything. sapphics, witches and the fight for labor and women's rights.
4) Iron Widow - Xiran Jay Zhao
just... societal issues wrapped up in a rich fantasy setting, with one young woman who is unhinged and reckless, ready to burn everything down for revenge and love. this one really blew me away.
5) A Master of Djinn - P. Djeli Clark
set in an alternate timeline in Egypt, where a suit-wearing muslim lesbian solves supernatural crimes. where the plot lacks the world building and loveable characters make up for it.

"I'd rather take my chances starting over than languish in your closet forever" is a surprisingly raw line to come from the cute genderfluid graphic novel

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo – Evelyn Hugo is a famous Hollywood star, after retiring from the spotlight after 3 decades, she became a recluse in her old age and made few and far appearances, leaving 7 husbands in her wake. The two things these marriages have in common is that they end in tragedy and Evelyn is the only one currently alive. Young up and coming writer Monique is requested by Evelyn personally to write her biography. Monique spends days with Evelyn getting her story of stardom and tragic love, finding out some interesting information that has never seen the light of day, until now.
