idk there's something that slaps about a character hating their name. is their name riddled with hundreds of traumas, of nightmares, enough that just a dream can make them wake up in a cold sweat? of claws seared into their skin, of chains that suffocate, to the point where being called for whatever reason makes their hands immediately shake? what if they have a nickname, and that nickname is all they know? where someone calls out to them, real name in all, and they've forgotten that that's their name. where their identity is just this horrific name, and that's all they've known.

and there's something that slaps MORE about them reclaiming their name. that person that calls them by name can knock some sense into them, and it becomes a nice thing. their name is called when others are running to them, smile bright and hand in a wave. its said when they're given a gift. its said when their love interest laughs at them making a bad joke and lightly punching their arm. where that love interest only sees them with this name, and it becomes something they love to hear, because it sounds so amazing coming out of their love's mouth. it sounds like a song, a sanctuary, a home.

and they're allowed to look to the people who use their name for hate, and get to look them in the eye with confidence they never had before, enough that it scares the demons who gave them their name. not even god can smite them now, because names have power, and their power is terrifying.

Farscape rewatch - Thanks for Sharing, 2x07

It's a jam-packed, clever, fast episode that is not mind-bogglingly depressing. What is not to love?

Moving on.

First off? Rygel the Negotiator? Rocks. I love that the fact that the paths of Moya John and Talyn John diverged was pure accident, pure random chance, Aeryn telling one to help fix Talyn and one to do things on Moya. This whole episode establishes that the two Johns are really two Crichtons. Neither is inferior to the other, a copy, a clone. And yet, how like John, to when Talyn John is dying from blood loss to offer a transfusion of his (and how like John, for Talyn John to point out that it would be better if TJ bought it). They think in sync, they work in unison, and they are both angry and clever and oh-so-Southernunder stress. John goes very Southern whenever he is mad or upset. I love it when Talyn John tells Ruler Jr. guy 'that's a big word to throw around, son.' SO Southern. And later Moya John referring to the truth telling octopus thingy as "good eating'" Heh. 

And another theme of Moyans being 'cursed' really because of what and who they are. They really just came to that planet to buy Cromextin for Talyn, no evil intentions in sight. But because the retrieval squad wants Talyn, ultimately the whole ruling family ends up dead and, as they indicated, it was only them keeping it from a civil war, the whole place is going to go up in smoke. This has some sharp writing (D'Argo's 'I am your Daddy' bit had to be rewatched 10 times, I swear.

And John-Stark exchange of 'Astro, work now, panic later' 'OK. How much later?' is something I adore. If we didn't realize Crais liked Aeryn, his reaction to finding out she was alive would be a dead giveaway. He was all about lingering hand touches when passing her the vidchip, and he was less than pleased when Talyn John came on board Talyn with her, and it wasn't just because he and John do not care for each other. And Aeryn's parentage thing is raised once again. I love her clear eyed acceptance that the reason her mother is on the retrieval squad is because PKs want her loyalties to waver (and isn't Crais thinking the same thing, by wanting Aeryn on the ship, only the waver he wants is her Mom.s Also, what was he doing in her personnel file, looking for nude shots?) And at the end, Talyn John is gone with Aeryn and the tag with Moya John not knowing what to think/do/or anything is lovely. He saved the day but Aeryn is gone, and with other him and how can you be jealous of it and how can you not. I wonder if he is thinking, when she returns, all emotionally walled up and scarred that her love for Talyn John and her flinching from himself means he is the fake, the not real one. Aeryn is always his barometer for being, after all. No wonder T and M both asked Aeryn that she can recognize which one is real.

Patton is worried that he's caused problems he doesn't know how to fix. He gives it his best shot anyway. Oh, and the tavern only has one room free.

Patton didn’t know what to do.

They had been riding in the back of Virgil’s wagon for the better part of the morning and they hadn’t stopped since they’d left the house. Patton couldn’t help but think that he and Logan had caused problems for this guy that they really couldn’t solve. They hadn’t intended to insert themselves into the poor guy’s clan, let alone split them up in the way they seemed to have done and he couldn’t work out what to do to fix it.

None of them had spoken since they’d started on the journey, not even Prince (or so he had introduced himself, it wasn’t his real name, Patton was certain) who hadn’t stopped speaking all of last night. Patton wanted to apologise, to give the pair some gift and say the words that would fix the rift they had caused by stealing from the man’s shop the day before. But somehow Patton couldn’t work out which words he was supposed to use. And on top of all that, he couldn’t even begin to try and describe the relationship Virgil had with Prince- it seemed romantic, if you looked at it from Prince’s end, with all the nicknames and apparent affection, but it seemed more like a mild hatred from Virgil’s, with annoyed huffs and harsh words that didn't seem to affect Prince's efforts in the slightest.

And then the other two they'd met the night before, Kai and Talyn. Patton didn't and couldn't understand the extent of their sacrifice, but he knew that they were the reason their little group of four was travelling now rather than locked away somewhere. Patton wasn't sure what had happened to them nor what they had meant to Virgil, but it must have been a lot, they had been a family, Patton could tell that much.

And because of him and Logan, Virgil might not be able to go back to them. 

So Patton stewed in these unpleasant sad thoughts all the time they continued, until the giant four-legged animal started to tire. Virgil calmed his complaints with murmured words that Patton couldn't hear, he wondered for a moment if Virgil had the same power to communicate with animals as he did.

They stopped not much later, they'd made it to an area of more thick green than they'd experienced so far on their journey, below them was grass, Patton knew grass, and above them loomed taller greens that blocked out the setting sun, he'd seen a few of them before, but never as clustered and dense as this, it reminded him of the kelp forest back home.

"We'll make camp here and carry on in the morning," Virgil announced, before turning and walking away from them into the forest. 

"Where is he going?" Logan asked, watching Virgil's silhouette disappear into the green as Prince worked to let their animal loose. 

"He's…." Prince started, before sighing, "He is upset, he simply needs space, come, Storm, will you help me gather wood for a fire?" 

"What's a fire?" Logan responded, tilting his head a little as he walked over to Prince with interest. That was another thing, the nicknames Virgil had given them, Storm was Logan's and Sky was Patton, which was strange, and despite them both insisting multiple times that they had names, Prince still used the nicknames instead. It was odd.

Patton chose to ignore the others as Prince attempted to explain the concept to Logan (he was sure Logan would relay to him later if it were important) in favour of turning his attention to the animal that had pulled their cart. He was curious as to what it was and what it had to say, he wondered if there was anything it had to say that could help them.

"Hello," Patton murmured as he slowly approached the creature, he hoped his power extended beyond sea creatures and birds, "My name's Patton… what's yours?" 

"Dark one calls me Thomas," He said with a whinny, stomping a foot on the ground as he 'spoke' to him, Patton couldn't help but smile, "Two-legs speak horse?" 

"I can speak to most creatures," He answered, daring to get a little closer, "Are you doing alright? That was a long trip…"

"Tired, long walking," He said, "Worried about dark and light ones," He said looking towards Prince and then off into the forest where Virgil had walked away, "Act not as usual." 

"Yeah I… noticed that too," Patton sighed, "I might go and talk to Virg- um- the dark one.”

"Talk," Thomas the horse nodded, "I protect my light one and your grey one."

"Thanks Thomas," Patton said, petting the fur on Thomas' neck before turning away and looking back towards the forest. The unknown was scary, especially going into it alone, but it was to help a new friend and besides, he'd done scary things before. He could do this, easy peasy.

Patton found Virgil sitting on a fallen green, staring absently into the stream that ran through the clearing. He was bundled up tight, knees tucked up to his chest and hands hidden under his loose top-clothes that had been pulled around his shoulders, hood pulled up over his hair and back hunched over like he was trying to make himself into the smallest ball that he could.

Patton wasn't sure if he should say anything. He remembered what Prince had done earlier, placing a hand on his shoulder without saying anything, just to let it be known that he was there. But then again, Patton didn't think Virgil would be happy with that kind of reassurance from one of the people who had caused this mess. So, as he thought himself out of all other options, Patton sat down on the fallen green too, far enough away that hopefully Virgil wouldn't feel trapped by him.

"I'm… really sorry," Patton said eventually, looking out towards the stream too, he saw Virgil jump from the corner of his eye, but he didn't look, he was worried he might cry if he did, "We- we caused this mess- took you away from your clan and your home, we didn't mean for all of this to happen in this way."

Virgil looked up at him, and Patton was able to tear his gaze away from the stream to meet his eyes.

"I'm… really grateful to you, for not turning us over to those guards… for getting us out of there," Patton said, "and we'd be even more grateful if you help us complete our journey, but I- I'd also understand if you didn't want to keep travelling with us, Logan and I could make it alone - if- if you wanted us to leave." 

"No," Virgil said, looking up at him from under his hair, "You don't have to go." 

"O-oh!" Relief flooded him at that statement, he didn't even realise he had been scared, "Thank you, then." 

"And…" Virgil looked back at the stream, "I didn't do this for you, I did it for Princey, he's like a lit match, and- and when he decides something nothing can change his mind, he likes you both, so I couldn't leave you behind if I wanted to." 

"I um- that's…. Good to know," Patton said with a smile, "I hope… I hope you'll like us too, even if it's not right now." 

"Don't worry about it, really," Virgil sighed, "Thank you… for coming after me." 

"You're welcome…. " Patton said with a smile, "I think Logan and Prince are getting 'camp' ready." 

"Ah, good," Virgil nodded, "Are you going to help?" 

"I'm… honestly not sure what to do, I don't even know what a camp is," Patton said, fiddling with the bottom of the clothes he wore.

"Honestly not surprised," Virgil said with a roll of his eyes, but Patton was pretty sure it wasn't supposed to seem rude, so he tried not to take it that way, "Seriously, how do you both know so little about the world?"

"We told you, not from here," Patton said with a shrug and a half smile.

"Right…." Virgil have him an odd look, before standing up and dusting himself off, he took a deep breath, "Let's go back."

The next morning everyone seemed much less upset. Logan especially seemed more excited then Patton had ever seen him now that he had someone to ask all his questions about this new world to. Prince did his best to give Logan the answers he wanted, Virgil tried to fill in when he struggled but there were some questions neither of them could answer, like what had happened to the river. 

Unlike the day before, this day's travel was calm, with Thomas' steady footsteps keeping the silences comfortable and the conversation steady. When Logan wasn't asking questions Patton was, and Patton's questions were much more personal (in a sense, he asked for their favourite colours, foods, fish and their favourite seashells). Roman liked to return his questions after he answered, prompting Patton to answer his own question too, it was a good way to learn about each other, while Virgil liked to think about his answers for a little while, finding meaning behind his answers to share.

The day went by quickly, despite their slow pace. They had talked far through the day right into the afternoon, when Virgil stopped their conversation (something interesting Roman was telling them about the strange tiny flying things that kept buzzing and flitting around them as they moved) to announce that they would be stopping over in the next village which was only a little while away. Thomas huffed in annoyance, but continued on walking at Virgil's command.

"Make sure not to draw attention to yourselves," Virgil said as he unhooked Thomas from the wagon and lead him into a stable they had rented for the night, "This place seems friendlier than the city, but it's still part of the kingdom and we don't know how far word has travelled, they may be on the lookout for magic."

"Right, Right," Patton said with a nod.

"Alright, I believe it would be best if you did the talking, rather than us," Logan said.

"Yes most likely," Prince nodded, "Sorry Virge, but you're really the only one of us who can do it."

"Wait- why can't you?" Patton asked, looking over at Prince with narrowed eyes. 

"I cannot lie," Prince answered with a shrug, "If the barkeep happened to ask me any questions, we'd be a little done for."

“Ah, I see,” Logan nodded, “Understandable.”

“Alright come on, don’t say anything and don’t draw unwanted attention to yourselves,” Virgil said, pushing open the door to the tavern and pulling up his hood at the same time, Prince seemed to shimmer a little as he walked through the door and Patton noticed he didn’t seem to glow quite so much. Patton and Logan couldn’t do much about their own current appearances, so they simply followed after their more disguised companions.

The tavern had only one room free.

Virgil had sighed and taken it- any room was better than sleeping outside, but now they all stood inside trying to work out where everyone was going to sleep.

The room itself was fairly large. The barkeeper had taken pity on them and allowed them a discount since there were four people attempting to stay in a room for two. The room itself was neatly decorated, it wasn’t fancy, but based on what Patton had seen so far on his journey he didn’t think it was horrible either. There was a large double bed with more pillows than Patton thought were probably necessary. There was a basin embedded in a counter over in the corner and a dresser at the foot of the bed. Not that they were going to use it, they didn’t plan to stay here long. 

Patton looked around with interest, taking in the pattern on the curtains, the rug at the foot of the bed, the colours on the bed. He ran his fingers carefully over the wood to find it smooth, but with grooves that created swirling patterns and interesting shapes. The only problem though, was that there were four of them, and the bed seemed built to generously fit two. 

“The bed’s a double,” Prince said, glancing around at them with an odd expression, “And a large one at that.”

Virgil groaned, “Princey, we won’t all fit on the bed.”

“Actually Virgil, that seems like it could be a practical solution,” Logan said, “If we could all fit onto the bed, it would avoid one or two of us sleeping on the hard floor.”

They had experienced the hard floor the night before and Patton thought it was pretty fair that neither of them wanted to experience it very much again. Virgil just stared at them, looking between Prince and Logan with disbelief.

“You two want to cuddle,” Virgil huffed, “I expected this from Princey, not you, Storm.”

“I think it’d be fun!” Patton interjected, “And more comfortable than the floor!”

“I believe you have been outvoted, Darling Stormcloud,” Roman said with a wicked grin on his face. Virgil rolled his eyes.

“Fine,” Virgil huffed, “We can all try and fit on the same bed.”

“Yay!” Patton cried, throwing himself onto the bed, Logan laughed.

“I believe we still must eat before we sleep, Patton,” Logan told him, poking his leg.

“Perhaps we may go downstairs? Order some food from the lovely barkeep?” Roman asked, leaning against the bed frame. 

“I don’t think we should,” Virgil murmured, “We have limited money- and we still have to buy food from the market tomorrow so that we don’t run out on the road…”

“Oh come on Virge!” Roman said, sweeping his arms dramatically, “Don’t be tight! We have loads of money!”

“I-”

“Eating a proper meal as a group would be nice,” Logan said quietly, “I wouldn't be averse to… getting to know you both more.”

In the end, they managed to persuade Virgil to let them get dinner together in the tavern. They had done so by means of pleading (Roman), persuasive facts (Logan) and Patton himself asking politely and hugging Logan for extra impact.

Finally, they headed downstairs together and took a free table in the corner furthest away from the door. Patton couldn't get over how decorated human places seemed to be! There were glowing things hanging from the ceiling that lit up the room as the sun was going down, metal things on the table, even some of the flowers he had seen growing outside in colourful decorated pots!

Behind the bar the barkeep was wiping down cups and dishes of all shapes and sizes that hung or stood on racks or shelves behind him. More people, all dressed in the same way, hurried in and out of another door carrying trays of food on plates like what they had eaten back at Virgil’s house two nights before. Sometimes they would stop at the bar to collect drinks to bring over to the other tables where people were talking and laughing and simply enjoying each other’s company. It made Patton smile, to be in a place where friends come together to enjoy food or drinks- it felt like nothing could go wrong here.

Though of course, the moment that you think that nothing can go wrong, something does.

The Pentagon, in a technological war with China, is moving to launch its first electric aircraft

The U.S. government has taken a direct approach when it came to the development of consumer drones. Now, a single Chinese company, DJI, has conquered more than three quarters of the world market, and Washington fears that its drones may be a tool for Chinese espionage in the U.S. heavens.

To avoid a similar error and the alarming national security implications, the U.S. Air Force's Agility Prime program has channeled more than $100 million since 2020 into another promising but unproven innovation: battery-powered aircraft known as eVTOLs for "electric vertical takeoff and landing", which many companies are developing for civilian use as air taxis and cargo transportation.

The military's commitment helped U.S. eVTOL developers raise billions of dollars and made them more likely to survive to fight for an eventual civilian market.

“The involvement of the U.S. Air Force attests that these are real planes – not toys, not flying cars,” said Will Roper, who launched Agility Prime when he served as head of purchasing for the USAF during the Trump administration.

After decades of high development costs for military aircraft, Agility Prime is an experiment to see if the Pentagon can take advantage of advanced, cheaper and ready-to-use commercial technology. The military foresees the use of eVTOLs in utility functions to transport people and cargo away from the airstrips at a lower cost than conventional helicopters. Because they are silent, they can also be useful for placing troops behind enemy lines and conducting rescue operations.

The 15 companies participating in Agility Prime include creators of piloted eVTOLs, such as Joby Aviation and Beta Technologies, and startups that develop cargo drones such as Elroy Air and Talyn. The program provided not only funding, but government testing resources and the potential to earn revenue from military sales before the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) gave the green light to start civil service.

Lawmakers seem to like the program: in the defense appropriations bill passed by Congress on Friday, they gave Agility Prime $50 million more in funding for fiscal 2023 than the $73.9 million the Biden government had requested. However, they denied an order for $3.6 million to rent a handful of eVTOLs during the year for exploratory use, citing a “lack of clear acquisition or field strategy”.

Several companies participating in the program believe that the military will start acquiring their aircraft in 2024. The move to the acquisition would be a major milestone in the Department of Defense, according to Roper, who is currently a board member of Beta Technologies. "It's a different color of money," he said. Before the completion of the allocation bill, AFWERX, the U.S. Air Force technology accelerator that manages Agility Prime, said in a statement that the program “continues to evaluate the acquisition of eVTOL aircraft in Fiscal Year 2023”.

Among the first aircraft acquired is a small Lift Aircraft multicopter called HEXA - single-s seat partially closed on top by a circular structure with 18 rotors. The Lift says that the ship can fly up to 15 miles and carry a maximum of 300 pounds. The military is considering using the HEXA for search and rescue, transporting small loads around bases and emergency response. The company expected some form of acquisition of the U.S. Air Force in 2023, said founder and CEO Matt Chasen.

The HEXA weighs only 430 pounds and its small size means it is relatively affordable. Lift, based in Austin, Texas, offered the first models as recreational vehicles for $500,000. In comparison, Beta Technologies expects its electric aircraft, Alia, which can carry up to 1,250 pounds of cargo or four passengers in a maximum of 200 miles, will cost from $4 million to $5 million.

Other Agility Prime participants say they are progressing to put the aircraft into military service.

Joby, based in Northern California, which received contracts through Agility Prime worth up to $75 million to support R&D and unmanned flight testing, told investors last month that it is in negotiations to deliver aircraft to the military in 2024 - by disclosing that it postponed its target date to launch urban air taxi services by one year by 2025, blaming the pace of drafting federal Its electric tiltrotor for four passengers is designed to take off and land like a helicopter and spin its wings like an airplane for up to 150 miles.

President Paul Sciarra said that it is possible for the military to start receiving aircraft as early as next year, giving the company, which is starting to manufacture the titrotor in reduced numbers, "a really important exhaust valve to ensure that we have a productive and local revenue-generating environment for aircraft to go."

Beta, based in Vermont, which aims to market Alia first as a cargo carrier, expects the Air Force to buy the aircraft in 2024, after test operations at the base in 2023. In March, Alia became the first electric aircraft controlled by U.S. Air Force pilots, with manned flight, but with landing and takeoff on a conventional runway. Beta received contracts worth up to US$ 44 million through Agility Prime.

An initial test mission that the U.S. Air Force is considering for electric aircraft is to move equipment and personnel around its test and training areas in the U.S., many of which are in remote areas with uneven roads. If eVTOLs perform well in this task, they will be tested to transport "illustrious visitors" on trips ranging from 30 to 90 one-way

Colonel Nathan Diller, who left the position of head of AFWERX earlier this month, said last year that the test and training areas are a perfect "low-risk" initial environment, with eVTOL aircraft expected to allow faster configuration and removal of communications and test equipment by fewer service members, which is usually done now with ground vehicles.

Another basic use: transporting small parts for repairs that would be a waste to carry in helicopters such as the Black Hawk or the V-22 Osprey, which cost thousands of dollars an hour to fly.

Another first-generation mission that Roper says is "acephalo" is to use eVTOLs for security in military bases, which can extend for hundreds of kilometers and are still patrolled from the World War II era by troops in land vehicles.

In the future, the U.S. Air Force is interested in using autonomous or remotely piloted eVTOLs for the risky mission of rescuing pilots killed behind enemy lines. The quieter electric propulsion and the smaller size of some of the aircraft compared to rescue helicopters can give them a better chance to get in and out without being seen. “You can send them to areas of higher risk without putting life or limbs at risk,” Diller said.

Agility Prime boasts of having helped the companies in the program raise $7.5 billion in funding, but as developers move from the prototype phase to the most expensive stage of civil security certification testing and expansion for manufacturing, not everyone will be able to find the money to continue. The pioneering eVTOL developer, Kitty Hawk, was the first company to conduct an operating year through Agility Prime in 2021. Billionaire investor Larry Page abruptly closed the company in October amid doubts about whether he would be able to bring his autonomous aircraft to market soon.

Roper believes that there will be a healthy civil market for the winners. With Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall supposedly skeptical of eVTOLs, Roper argues that the military needs to recognize that U.S. competition for primacy with China is taking place mainly in commercial technology, so focusing on how much the Pentagon benefits directly from electric aircraft is not the only decisive factor.

“The biggest impact of Agility Prime is that this is an emerging market that will probably be worth a lot in terms of value, in terms of jobs created, in terms of global impact,” Roper said. "It will be a market with a US zip code."

By: Alex Thomas, Hartford Wolf Pack Club Recalls Two From ECHL, Rangers Reassign Lindbom and Boyko to Hartford HARTFORD, CT – New York Rangers Assistant General Manager and Hartford Wolf Pack General Manager Ryan Martin announced today that the club has recalled forward Sahil Panwar from loan to the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones and forward Blade Jenkins from loan to the ECHL’s Worcester Railers. Additionally, the Rangers have reassigned goaltenders Olof Lindbom and Talyn Boyko to the Wolf Pack from the Cyclones. Panwar, 22, appeared in 64 games with the Cyclones as a rookie. He recorded 54 points (22 g, 32 a), suitable for fourth on the club. His 22 goals ranked third on the team in that category and first among rookies. The native of Mississauga, ON, also skated in three games with the Wolf Pack. He made his AHL debut on February 22nd, 2024, against the Cleveland Monsters at the XL Center. Jenkins, 23, scored 55 points (24 g, 31 a) in 56 games with the Railers. He finished second on the club in points while leading them in goals. In addition to his time with the Railers, Jenkins skated in ten games with the Wolf Pack, scoring three points (2 g, 1 a). The native of Jackson, MI, has appeared in 99 career AHL games, scoring 23 points (12 g, 11 a) with the Wolf Pack and Bridgeport Islanders. Jenkins was selected by the New York Islanders in the fifth round, 134th overall, of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Lindbom, 23, played in 29 ECHL games with the Cyclones this season. The second-year goaltender posted a record of 10-15-3 with a .884 save percentage, 3.56 goals against average, and one shutout in 29 games. The native of Stockholm, SWE, also appeared in six games with the Wolf Pack. He has gone 1-3-1 with a .916 save percentage and 2.37 goals against average this season. He collected his first career victory in the AHL on March 24th against the Belleville Senators, making a career-high 37 saves at the CAA Arena. The Rangers selected Lindbom in the second round, 39th overall, of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Boyko, 21, appeared in 26 games as a rookie with the Cyclones. He posted a record of 13-9-1 with a .888 save percentage and 3.42 goals against average. The native of Drumheller, AB, has yet to make his AHL debut. Before turning pro, Boyko appeared in 142 WHL games, posting a 56-67-9 record with a .899 save percentage, 3.55 goals against average, and six shutouts with the Kelowna Rockets and Tri-City Americans. Boyko was selected in the fourth round, 112th overall, by the Rangers in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Thomas has a lot to explain

Alternative title: what to do when your friends use a shrink ray on you but they’re imaginary and your other friends are on the way

Just a bit of context, I headcannon that Remus is incredibly smart, and will do stupid things with Logan, in the name of science.

Remus and Logan were thinking of scenarios that they could make happen with their shrink ray.

"What if we used it on Thomas? He's the only one who hasn't shrunk before, and I don't know whether it would work on a being that is not imaginary. We should try it. Forscienceofcourse" Logan finished hurriedly.

"Huh, never thought of that. I doubt that he'd agree to it though so..... surprise attack? We need to collect the data and we can't do that if we ask and he disagrees. We could do it right now to stop risk of being stopped by someone"

"That would work, however Joan and Talyn are on their way to Thomas's apartment soon, and if it works it would be incredibly inconvenient for Thomas to explain"

"Come on nerdy wolverine. The shrink ray works both ways, we can just turn him straight back. No need for worrying. Don't you want to have an experiment that involves Thomas?"

Logan sighed. He really did want to have an experiment that involved his host, and this was an easy way to do it without being stopped.

"Fine"

They picked up the shrink ray and sunk into Thomas's living room.

"Guys, what are you doing here? Is something wrong?"

"Science" Logan whispered, firing up the shrink ray.

"What's that? GUYS WHATS THA—" A bright flash of light cut him off, temporarily blinding him.

When he opened his eyes, it was to a vastly different point of view than before he was forced to close them. He turned to where Logan and Remus were stood together.

"What the fuck guys. What did you do? Joan and Talyn are about to be here, and you do this? Was this remus's idea?" It was then that he noticed Logan staring at something he was holding. The logical side looked up momentarily, face panicky

"It would appear that since we, and the shrink ray, originate from inside your mind, we have also shrunk. This would be fine if I hadn't of dropped the shrink ray when I felt my own size decrease. It seems to of suffered a greater fall than it would have if it stayed big. It is too damaged to change you back yet."

Thomas was growing nervous "can't you, like, summon another one?"

Remus, who had been uncharacteristically silent, spoke up. "There are limits to what we are able to do, Thomas. We had to make it from scratch. We could summon the materials, sure, but putting them together took days, almost weeks. We can try to fix it but it will take hours at least. I'm sorry" the thing that surprised Thomas the most was that Remus sounded genuine in his apology.

Before he could respond, Virgil showed up, sensing Thomas's rising anxiety levels. When he noticed the problem he stormed over to Remus and Logan. "Oh. My. Fucking. God. You two. I swear Logan, how can we class you as the smart one when you pull shit like this?! And don't try to blame it all on Remus, I'm sure that he had at least some part in it, but I know full well that you wanted to know if it would work on Thomas. Now you've gone and put Thomas in danger. He's not imaginary, he can die. In comparison to him at the moment, Joan and Talyn would be giants. What would have happened if the ray had a bad effect on Thomas and killed him? This is why you need to ask people before you do a dangerous experiment. Now Thomas is stuck like this until you can get it fixed and to top it all off, Joan and Talyn will be here any second."

As if on cue, the door opened. Thomas couldn't help but feel a deep instinctual fear of his friends. He knew that they wouldn't hurt him, but when you're faced with giants, you're gonna be scared aren't you? It didn't help that Virgil was muttering all the things that could go wrong. He ran under the couch.

He could just hide there until Logan fixed the thing. Unfortunately it seemed like Talyn noticed the movement out of the corner of their eye.

"I think something just went under the couch" fear coursed through his body, Virgil generating endless possibilities of what could happen, despite the fact that these seemingly giants were his friends and would never hurt him. Logan was trying to calm Virgil down, saying about how logically there was nothing to worry about, these were Thomas's friends and they would never purposely hurt him. Both Remus and Virgil pointed out that accidents happen all the time, and it wouldn't take much more than one wrong step for Thomas to die.

This (of course) did not help the mood. Nor did it help Thomas's racing heart when Talyn looked under the couch. He felt like his heart was going to explode it was beating that fast by the time that their eyes locked on his 3 inch form.

"What the..." they muttered, reaching out to grab him.

He ran. He ran as fast as his infinitesimally sized legs could carry him. It wasn't quick enough. Nowhere near in fact. He was soon being scooped up into hands that could crush him if they squeezed too tight. But he wasn't being squeezed at all, the hands just cupped around him. It was like being on a living cushion, and that thought unsettled him. Probably Remus's doing he noted, desperately trying to distract himself from the frankly terrifying situation at hand.

"Thomas?! What the- how?!"

He waved, weakly. "H-hi"

"What the fuck happened?"

"It's a long story, and honestly not that believable."

"Just tell me"

"Fine. Get Joan over here, I'm not explaining this twice, and you might leave out details"

The now colossal friend called over to their partner.

"JOAN! I FOUND THOMAS!"

He rubbed his ears, that was really fucking loud.

The mentioned human walked over. It seemed they didn't notice the shrunken man yet.

"Where is he?"

Talyn nodded towards their hands, where Thomas was sat. He waved again.

"How the fuck—"

"Thomas was just about to explain that if you'll let him"

"Well, I won't be explaining but the person explaining will be in my body, if that makes sense."

"It does not but go on"

"Before it happens, please don't be alarmed if he says things. There are a lot of things that he likes to say, but unfortunately he's the only one that knows exactly what happened that isn't fixing the shrink ray"

"Woah, woah, woah. Shrink ray?! How the fuck"

"If you'll let me give the guy my body, you'll find out" his eyes rolled back in his head, returning a blood red.

"Woah, having a body that can't be turned into slime or shapeshift is weird. Anyway so, me and my friends represent different aspects of Thomas's personality. Me being 'bad' creativity or intrusive thoughts. You may call me Remus or the duke, my brother Roman is 'good' creativity and the ego, my boyfriend Logan is logic, then there's Patton, he's morality, the heart, the feelings, the inner dad and the inner child. And last but not least, there's Janus and Virgil. Janus is the embodiment of deceit and all of the lies that Thomas tells and Virgil is the embodiment of anxiety. Me and Logan were messing with our shrink ray and we wanted to know whether it would work on Thomas because he was the only one that knew about us that wasn't imaginary. Oh yeah I forgot to mention the fact that we're all imaginary. So anyway we kinda surprise attacked him, which shrunk us as well because we're a part of him. It also shrunk the shrink ray which Logan dropped in surprise, causing it to break. And then you showed up after Virgil yelled at us a bit. Logan is off fixing the ray now.

"You know, the others have all had a turn possessing him but this is my first, because I 'would kill someone' and 'would get him arrested'. I mean I would, but it would be so cool. I think the thing he was most worried about was me hurting either of you. I do have a lot of plans for that, but I can't act them out when Thomas is this small, which is probably why he let me possess him instead of waiting for Logan to come back"

Joan and Talyn seemed to be processing the very startling news that Remus told them. After about a minute of silence, Remus announced that the shocked looks on their faces was indeed hilarious but he had to go.

When his eyes rolled back into his head, this time they returned to their normal chocolatey brown. "I'm really sorry that you had to meet him, but I guess we all know what happened now" Thomas apologised.

"Dude. I know I've already said this, and it's been explained but WHAT THE FUCK?!??"

(It was at that moment that Percy Jackson broke through the window, screaming "DID SOMEONE JUST SAY THE THREE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE MY LIFE?!" He then caught sight of Thomas and said "what the fuck". just kidding, that would almost be as unrealistic as 3 mil people watching someone talking to himself for 30-50 minutes. Oh wait)

And I guess that's the end? Probably.

There was a mostly empty tube of hair dye that they found in the trash one time when it was still Aunty Patty living in the house, and Talyn took it home out of curiosity. It was a bright teal, and they absolutely adored it. They squeezed every bit of use out of that bottle that they could, and when it did finally run out they tried to figure out other ways to color their hair. Nothing worked as well as the dye MADE for hair though, so after Thomas moved in and started to coexist with the borrowers a little, they worked up the courage to ask him about it. Now they change their color every time the old one fades out!

Okay but with the sides being borrowers and stuff, (not sure how big they are) but think of Thomas through the groups talking amongst themselves figgures out when their birthdays are and stuff. (Roman and Logan are oldest and twins, Patton is the middle child. Virgil is the second youngest and Dee is the youngest)

He leaves out one big cookie on the counter for Patton’s b-day, but also puting a peice of paper there telling he knows they’re there.

When Roman’s b-day grows near he goes to the toy store and look up stuff for dollhouses and stuff untill he finds the princy outfit but like TINY, he also hands him a toothpic sword and a big button sheild. he can’t help but smile when he hears the small but very much estatic scream.

For Logan’s b-day Thomas borrows some books from the library and leaves them open on the counter for Logan to read. and if he catches the borrower in the corner of his eye happily reading then he won’t say anything.

When Virgil’s b-day comes along Thomas places a mp3 player with music he thinks Virgil will like on the counter. he smiles when he hears it play at the evenings.

For Dee’s b-day he isn’t sure what to give the borrower, so he asks Patton (who is the one who dares show himself to Thomas the most.) In the end he leaves out a pile of rasins and when he looks at it the next day it’s gone.

Also he asks Talyn to repeat how the breathing exerise whent so that the borrowers would hear it before he made them know he knew of them.

Once they all show themselves to him, he makes sure his apartment is easier for them to wander through, by making small holes at the sides of furneture and stuff
