timcassie is so compelling to me. they were not into each other even a little bit. it was such a messy coping mechanism fuelled entirely by grief. they were making out with each other because they were both substituting each other for kon. cassie was far more aware she was doing this than tim was. unironically, dating a girl here is one of the gayest things tim has done

back on my wonder girl redesign bs. dont get me wrong i LOVE her young justice 2019 look. but those are her civilian clothes. and i LOVE that cassie runs around saving the city in ww merch and beat up kicks.

but i still want her in the official armour for some big events--esp since they've been saying that the breastplate is standard young amazon wear and yara got her own tiara? i just think the cassie sandsmarks hot girl summer arc is abt her deciding to put the armour back on. become wonder girl again, after she was out of commission for so long (b4 yj19) anw ill finish the fic at some point

what order am I doing these in? who knows! certainly not chronologically. this is my first time taking a look at cassie's fics on ao3 and I decided to start from the top of 2024. if you're new, this is cherry's fic awards, where I comb through every fic posted/updated in a character tag for a specific month and find my favorites, since a lot of these don't get the attention that I think they deserve.

sunday girl, by misspickman (@misspickman). 3k, E, timcassie. my summary: tim and cassie fall into a friends with benefits relationship to work through their respective gender issues. my notes: I literally adore everything by this author and all of its writing so perhaps I am insanely biased but oh my GODDD listen I'm not even into timcassie but perhaps it was bc of how platonic despite being sexual this was but this was just. it hit so hard. cassie's head during/post tt03 is such a place to live and I'm obsessed with this fic <3

Against All Odds, by Cynder2013. 1.3k, T, gen. my summary: during her 16th birthday party, cassie reflects on her life as a half-blood, starting with meeting nico di angelo. my notes: I don't normally go for crossovers, but this one hit!!! I think it's the fact that it feels so natural-- cassie already has ties to greek mythology, after all. I adore the conflict of I lived this long -- do I deserve it? what do I do with all this time I never expected to have? A+ I really really liked this one

Honey by neptunesenceladus (@neptunesenceladus). 1.3k, G, gen. my summary: in the wake of donna's death, kori teaches cassie how to harvest honey. my notes: the quiet peace of this is what struck me-- so much of grieving in DC comics is loud and angry, but here the grieving is done in between steps. life goes on. I also really like fics where you can very clearly tell that the author is eager to talk about a very niche hobby they're into, and the intricacies of harvesting honey play nicely into the messaging and the pacing.

like, generally i think the choice to put tim and cassie together in tt03 was likely editorial. its forced, its weird, its tinged with grief and mania and a little bit of what i can only describe as, like, romantic victorian insanity. cassie suffers from a lack of agency in the misogynistic writing, and is shepherded into romantic encounters to simulate narrative relevance, and it feels pretty gross. and then yjtv tim and cassie share like 2 lines. and this makes me a little sad because somewhere in my brain there is a version of these two characters who would have the f u n n i e s t relationship on the goddamn planet. buff cassie, six foot five, blond hair buzzed, knuckles bruised. standing next to bruce wayne's latest acquisition, 5 foot two skinny as a slip black hair black eyes black nail polish, drinking from a starbucks drink and dressed in a hoodie thats 3 sizes too big.

cassie's liltingly mean to him and hes mean back in that snarky sort of way and then theyre both laughing. its scathing insults caped in banter caped in eye rolls that are 3 steps removed from gooey fondness. theyre the type who can, like, make eye-contact from across the room and know exactly what the other person is thinking. communicating in hand gestures. in sync on and off the field. slightly unhealthily traumabonded. do you want my jacket? no, cassie, I'm used to the cold. well, take it anyway. take it anyway.

We realized the closest way to get the Red Robin stakes into a regency romance is for Tim to be Bruce’s illegitimate daughter who Dick is frantically trying to get into a safe marriage before Damian comes of age and cuts her off because someone (coughcoughBRUCE) forgot to provide for her in his will, and has vanished in a storm at sea.

Tim’s potential suitors that are making Dick tear his hair out are:

1. The younger prince of a no-longer-existing principality, Kon El, who’s a habitual Interesting Guest with no steady income of his own,

2. A mysterious masked stranger who made his fortune in piracy and keeps hinting at insider knowledge of the Wayne family,

3. And archaeologist Cassie Sandsmark for a Boston marriage.

Tim doesn’t see the problem but fine, if Bruce not providing for her is the problem, she’ll just have to prove he didn’t actually perish at sea. With all her suitors in tow.

i think the similarities mostly begin and end with "vibes" and "i, sisky cleromancy, like and ship them" adn "one of them borderline-compulsively causes problems on purpose" but they're also just not like... The Same you know. like rose and jason are similar characters and tim and cassie have a fair bit in common too but the history between both ships is entirely different and to be honest even on the surface level the dynamics are pretty different

so like sure there are similarities, the way there are similarities between apples and pomegranates. surface-level and not terribly meaningful
