What makes a bodega different from a coffee shop, an extensive guide by Peter B. Parker.

Peter Parker travels to the bodega as often as the coffee shop two streets over and they are both critical in his life. He just didn't realise how important they were to each other. | tony stark/stephen strange

The bodega on the corner of Queen’s is on the way home from Midtown High, the coffee shop is two streets over.
If a pick-me-up is needed the bodega offers food that I can be brought home and cooked for dinner, but the coffee shop offers sweet treats and drinks that have far too much sugar in them for an arachnid.
The bodega is a shop, the coffee shop only offers coffee and treats.
When studying is required for an upcoming test the coffeeshop is quieter and not many strangers will wish you a good day, the bodega will be loud and strangers will encourage you to do your best work while distracting you at the same time, despite saying “ I won’t distract you anymore, Cara.” (Which means dear and is very nice to hear once and awhile).
Coffee from the bodega is straight black and bitter, but the handmade rolled, squished-down flat, sandwiches make up for it. The coffee shop is the opposite their coffee is sweet and drinkable while their sandwiches are questionable.
People know you at the Bodega is they are strangers or not, it is the epitome of the 5 connections diagram. In the coffee shop, you may see the same people but you don’t know them, except for the nice barista who will add a maple cookie with every drink order once finding out you were allergic to peppermint.
Both places feel similar to family just in different ways.
At the coffee shop, they care about the paper they know you were slaving over last week, 4 coffees deep, the bodega care about your weight and will tell you are too thin and give you extra pasta ingredients.
You could win the lucky lotto number only at the bodega.
The coffee shop tries to be elegant Italian whereas the bodega is real Italian and Spanish mixed to make beautiful pasta and sweets pairings. They are both great but only at the bodega will you get comprehensive Italian lessons and support on the latest Spanish assignment.
The bodega owner is nice and will show you all the things he is working on to improve the shop, and he doesn’t wear a name badge because he believes being able to learn names is more important than knowing them.
They both sell great different versions of breakfast.
The barista at the coffee shop (who is the OWNER!) is named Stephen and taught himself to make coffees to deal with his oncoming arthritis, and because he wanted to impress a guy in college.
They both wear wedding bands and are in nice marriages where they are fond of their partner but don’t feel bad complaining about their newest mess up.
They will both make you feel like you have a dad. (Cross that one out Peter, it is not that important).
Sometimes it is almost as if they talk about each other, Tony (the Bodega owner) will say that his husband brought home freshly baked apple pie, from work, after they went apple picking on the weekend. Stephen then talks about his partner loving his apple pie and that is what inspired the new apple-flavoured menu for the fall season.
It is easy to work at both according to the employees and Tony lets kids who can’t work elsewhere or can’t commit very many hours to work behind the counter when in need of money but don’t want to just take it.
Tony also employs a really cute guy that makes you want to go to the bodega more. (No he doesn’t MJ!)
They pack up at the same time, 7 pm saying that they want to be home with their partners. Stephen closes only just before.
But the bodega opens again around 2 am, or whenever Tony is awake.
Both stores are inherently clean despite the clutteredness of the bodega compared to the simple modern design of the coffee shop.
They both opened the shops for their partners, Stephen’s husband (HUSBAND THEY ARE ALSO BOTH GAY! (or Bi)) loves coffee and Stephen thinks he needs to try something other than black. Tony opens early in the morning because he knows his husband likes to be awake early in the morning and in college, they would both visit the bodega before class (a sacrifice he had to make, Tony likes to admit).
If you work late enough you might see Stephen knock on the window of the bodega and Tony come out and kiss him before closing up shop finally.
On one night you might just be able to see a shocked Peter Parker, mouth wide open, through the window.

Bucky Barnes Connect Four - Alt Jun-iverse [BBC4_R2] {Ends June 2024}
The good folks over at @buckybarnesevents have opened this event up early! You sign up for a single row card of four squares and the challenge is to see if you can combine any/all into a single Bucky-centric AU fanwork - although you can also create 2-4 separate fanworks if you want.
The combo of prompts on my first card [Reality Show, Omegaverse, Talent/Manager, Royalty] sparked an idea that I’m about 230 words + misc notes into already - Alpha!Bucky as a technical prince who gets talked into joining a reality show that is supposed to match him up with an omega… but there’s a twist! Planning to pick this back up in the next week or so.

The dog lying on Peter’s feet brings him back to a sense of normal, one that isn’t spinning, freezing or closing in on him. This one was much more supportive. It was also fluffy, trying to ground Peter again, barking quietly to get him out of his head, it was working. | tony stark/stephen strange

Peter Parker struggles, his breaths are rapid and he feels enclosed in a tiny room despite knowing the library is one of the larger rooms on campus. It isn’t like his normal attacks, sensory overloads, those are from his senses being powered up to 11, these are new. His therapist says their panic attacks, something she suspects he has been going through for many years but learnt, and was taught, to ignore and mask, because it was unsafe to panic. Now in a stable house, she observes that Peter has been able to let down his guard, so his mask began slipping allowing anxiety to reroot itself.
Moving in with Tony and Stephen has been good, frightening and confusing at first, but good. Much better than most of his other foster homes, all of his other foster homes, because here they cared about him. They let him eat ice cream on week-nights and explore new environments at his own pace, there’s no pressure on grades or work ethic just as long as he is getting things done, healthily.
This explains the comforting body in front of him, and the dog lying on Peter’s feet bringing him back to a sense of normal, one that isn’t spinning, freezing or closing in on him. This one was much more supportive. It was also fluffy, trying to ground Peter again, barking quietly to get him out of his head, it was working.
“Hi Pete,” Stephen says quietly as Peter opens his eyes back up, the dog, his dog, sniffing his hand, the cold wet nose standing out to the rest of the feeling, “Ms Carlyle called and said you came here for some peace and quiet.” Pete nods feeling the mixed white, black and light brown fur that the dog below him brings, recently washed he notes.
Tony noticed that when Peter moved in he felt uncomfortable in the new, accommodating space, very different to what he experienced previously. After searching and researching Stephen and Tony found Tigger, a qualified trained service dog, Australian Sheppard, perfect for Peter. They got to explore their new home together and calmed each other anxieties, spending time together made the move much more comfortable and now Peter gets to grow with Tigger. It helps that Stephen and Tony love him as well, Peter and Tigger.
Peter sighs smiling, calmer than he was moments ago, “Are we going home?” He asks quietly so as not to ruin the peaceful atmosphere that the library creates, the reason he came here in the first place.
Stephen nods putting Tigger’s leash into Peter’s hand, “Tony has been begging to take you out of school to get milkshakes since we met you, he thinks it is a right of passive as a teenager.” That makes Peter chuckle slightly, it is going to take him a while to move away from the weird funk that panic attacks put him into, but Stephen is on the right path.
When they get to the car, after Stephen goes through all the proper procedures to sign Peter out, they meet Tony, hanging out the window of the range rover, “look at Mr Parker skipping school!” It doesn’t set the comfort levels in Peter off and so instead he just shyly waves.
That is enough for Tony, he smiles turning around in his car seat so he can face Peter “I don’t know what Stephen has told you but I have made the important decision that on days like this burgers and milkshakes are required, what do you think?” He reaches to ruff up Tigger’s fur who just ignores the man and digs back into Peter’s skin.
Stephen rolls his eyes and looks his husband in the eyes, “what am I going to do with you?”
Peter is laughing, giggling in the back seat. Panic attacks are forgotten and burgers and milkshakes are on the forefront.

PoliZ's WIP Update - 31 Jan 2024
Another productive writing week - while I only touched 3 fics (1 new works & 2 WIPs) - with over a thousand words on one of them, I managed 2310 words - for a total of over 11k for the month!
On Ao3, I posted:

I carried over 16 semi-active WIPs into the new year 😬 with my current deadlines being the Bucky Barnes Bingo which now wraps on 31 Jan and the Tony Stark Bingo & Stony AU Bingo which both wrap in mid-February.
See below cut for what I’m working on/planning to work on - arranged more or less by bingos/challenges/etc. As always, feel free to send me prompts or plot bunnies as well as asks regarding any of these projects or any other WIPs I’ve got out there. Interaction really helps feed the Muse and keep me motivated!

It’s a Red Room-era BuckyNat (kinda) ficlet where she and the Soldier are pretending to be a couple in love at a Christmas market. Originally posted here as a fill the for Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF234 How It Ends] I tinkered with it some more and it came in at 477 words.

Tony Stark Bingo Round 7 - [TSB_R7] (ends 15 Feb)
Twenty-six fills and two WIPs as of the moment - getting an assisted blackout, thanks to a couple of adopted squares!
* T2 - KINK: Cock-blocking 'bots - Posted Competing for His Affections this morning – ‘bot shenanigans based on Tony & Bucky’s new romance. I combined a recent Flash Fiction Friday prompt, [#FFF233 Imperfect Sign] and a belated Fictober Day 27: prompt "I don't know if they will accept this." along with my BBB - Humor prompt. It came in at 537 words
* A2 - KINK: Concubine - This will get filled with Chapter Two of The Sultan’s Gifts (see Caning prompt below). Chapter Two, which also fills my SAUB Gentle Dom square is coming in at 1065 words with a third smutty chapter (filling my SRB Multiple Submissives squares) sitting at 225 words as of this morning.
* R5 - Doppelganger/Evil Twins - Worked on expanding NamNori this week - originally a ficlet for the Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF214 Broken Mirror]. It’s crossing over with my SAUB AU: Crack square and is coming in at 1303 words of an alternate-dimension Tony causing a bit of havoc, but also a happy Stony ending. It will post on Friday.
* K5 - AU: Anime - I had Vague Ideas of doing a “Battle of the Planets” (my first anime and a childhood favorite) fusion, with Tony as Princess, Steve as Mark and Bucky as Jason - but wasn’t sure who to put in as Tiny (Happy? Thor?) or Keyop (Vision?) - JARVIS would have been their 7-Zark- 7 of course…. if I have time/spoons/inspiration - I may do something with this.
* Dec Adoptable: Caning - Posted Chapter One of The Sultan’s Gifts over the weekend. It’s basically an extended PWP scene with sub!Steve/ sub!Bucky as concubines gifted to Dom!Tony. There’s a bit of impact play (thanks to this prompt and the SRB Crops/Floggers/Whips square). I also threw in my SAUB Pre-Serum Steve Rogers and Build a Bucky Bingo Polyamory prompts for good measure! It came in at 972 words.
* Jan Adoptable: Enemies to Lovers - working to fit this into another Flash Fiction Friday-inspired fic - To Earn the Dragon’s Heart was written for prompt [#FFF237 A Fool’s Quest] and will also fill my SAUB AU: Fantasy square. This is also inspired by CoffeeOwl’s really cool dragon!Steve/ indebted!Tony prompt in the STB Discord server. The expansion is up to 678 words and will hopefully be posted on the 9th.
Stony AUniverse Bingo [SAUB_R1] (ends 15 Feb)
Another brand-new bingo I’m helping co-mod! I’m up to fourteen fills, four WIPs and several crossover ideas in play. Not sure I’m going to get a blackout - but I’ll do my best!
* S1 - Edging - Filled this with Ringing in the New, where Tony makes a suggestion to improve/change up their love life. It’s a crossover with a Flash Fiction Friday prompt: How Do You Use ‘It’? and came in at 324 words - I will post it to Ao3 before the event is over.
* S2 - AU: Crack - see TSB Doppelganger/Evil Twins
* S3 - AU: Wings - think I need to pivot on this - maybe I’ll be self-indulgent and do a second remix of some part of Take What Was Wrong (And Make it Right) from Steve’s POV - since the first remix is Bucky POV (and therefore tricky to make Stony-focused)
* S5 - Accidental Baby Acquisition - see BBB Yelena Belova - this may have to come off the table/pivot to something else.
* T1 - AU: Fantasy - see TSB Enemies to Lovers.
* T2 - Adopting a Cat - combined this with a Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF236 Fight or Flight] for Feline Fight and Flight - which will probably get a better title before I post it to Ao3.😁 This No Powers established Stony ficlet - where Tony’s rescuing a stray cat and Steve helps out - came in at 390 words.
* T4 - AU: Canon Divergence - I may write a follow up on Setting Aside the Shield to fill this square.
* O2 - Omegaverse - I have a Vague Idea inspired by @kandisheek’s lovely art piece.
* O3 - FREE - used this in combination with a previous Flash Fiction Friday prompt: [#FFF235 Little Pink Houses] to come up with Those Old Crazy Dreams (Just Kind of Came and Went) which was posted to Tumblr and came in at 461 words. I may tweak it a bit before posting to Ao3 before this event is over.
* N2 - Mutual Pining - crossover with CABB Royal Knight?
* N3 - Gentle Dom - see TSB KINK: Concubine above
* N5 - AU: Multiple Identities - Posted The Secrets We Keep to Tumblr. It’s a first person alternating POV ficlet with mutual pining (and secret identity) Stony. It came in at 314 words and will get posted to Ao3 before the event ends.

Bucky Barnes Connect Four - Alt Jun-iverse [BBC4_R2] {Ends June 2024}
The good folks over at @buckybarnesevents have opened this event up early! You sign up for a single row card of four squares and the challenge is to see if you can combine any/all into a single Bucky-centric AU fanwork - although you can also create 2-4 separate fanworks if you want.
The combo of prompts on my first card [Reality Show, Omegaverse, Talent/Manager, Royalty] sparked an idea that I’m about 230 words + misc notes into already - Alpha!Bucky as a technical prince who gets talked into joining a reality show that is supposed to match him up with an omega… but there’s a twist! I’m torn between striking while the iron is hot vs spending time on the fics that have a looming deadline… 🙃
