you mentioned how hlvrai is an interesting form of storytelling and i think thats part of why it got big- same with taz and other dnd podcasts- people like the authenticity of it. theres no big writers rooms working to make it "perfect." its all very in the moment. the actors arent actors- theyre not reading off a script. everyone whose playing a part are equally a part of the storytelling process. everyone is making the script up in the moment, and things happen either to immediately make their friends laugh or make their friends go 'holy shit thats awesome' or (my personal favorite) to give their friends the opportunity to do something cool!

its an honest form of storytelling that we're kinda losing with the way media is so sanitized and washed out and forced to be marketable. like, i struggle explaining hlvrai or dnd podcasts to my friends when they ask what kind of content i watch, because theres really no comparison to it (unless they also engage with that type of content). its like people sitting around a campfire telling stories, just to pass the time and engage in creativity. and i think thats why people like them, theyre just fun and real.

i got a little rambley but overall: i think hlvrai and these types of media are popular because theyre honest

i think there's truth to this, yeah!!! :) there's a lot to be said for stories where the storytellers are present/visible, esp when they're all close-- it's like being invited into their warm, fun little friend group for a little bit, even if it's just to observe. it's a kind of antithesis to the wave of polished and soulless media that has become more and more of the stuff out there in the past ten years (spotless set design, everyone is beautiful and no one is horny, reliance on the Save the Cat method, i don't have enough links to sketch this whole thing out but yes: the number one word is marketability). these are lonely times; stories told by real people in real-time are a breath of fresh air, especially when there's the doubled wild cards of 1. wtf are my friends going to pull out of their asses next and how do i keep this balloon-story in the air oh god and 2. dice-rolling/weird g-mod stuff à la the helicopter heap, etc. it's great fun to see people up against these odds who manage to pull together a semi-cohesive story anyways :)

i don't think we're really losing this kind of story-telling, though it is becoming less visible in a marketability-lowest-common-denominator-blockbuster-content-production kind of way. but you're right that these kinds of practices trace back to telling stories around a fire, or while spinning thread or sharpening flint-- it's deep in our core as human beings. our lives are very different from those of our our ancestors 50k years ago but in the grand scheme of things, we've barely barely changed. we still want those stories. we still want to tell them, too. even as inhuman companies beyond our individual grasps manipulate things far above us, try to distract workers from too-long days at work with stripped-down marketable manipulative garbage, there will always be people making weird, niche art: friend groups who stream goofy improv together, people who write thousands upon thousands of words about their OCs even though only 3 people read it, toby fox in his basement, DnD podcasts with fewer than a fifty listeners, stick figure webcomics updating every day, pre-teens scribbling about sparklewolves in their composition notebooks and shyly sharing a little bit with the other weirdo in their class.

but yeah. especially for those of us who don't necessarily have the energy to create as much as we'd like, story-telling that has the foundations visible, that is honest about what it is and where it's coming from, that has at its core the desire to make one's friends laugh-- it's great! it's fun! it's a good antidote to the big polished crap :)

I like who I am more when I stick to using tumblr . Facebook feels haunted, ig feels sort of like a store, and tik tok can be funny/cool with creators but they just make me feel overwhelmed like highschool insecurity energy? I hate micro trends, and I don’t like millennial vs gen z wars, or young people who are still clearly finding who they are and being desperate for attention and lying influencer bullies. They all end up copying aesthetics they used to make fun of anyways. It makes me very uncomfortable. I don’t want to be a part of mainstream culture or have things I have always loved become a trend for the type of people I despise. Or I get jealous of peoples lives…. I try to use it for just memes, jokes and cool artists but it’s hard to not absorb the rest I see on there. I don’t want to feel too seen and it’s not like I create content . I feel more inspired and more like myself , and safe here. Where I can feel a part of my inner world, and have access to that door. I don’t want to feel like a real person who has to compete to feel whole with the rest of society. I’ve NEVER been a part of it! It makes me worse with my issues when I’m “on the outside looking in” . I want to reclaim my energy and feel like my life is mine. I do post occasionally on my ig story and would love to follow ANY tumblr mutuals/followers of mine on here . (I don’t have irl friends or family) teehee <3 love you guys thanks for still using tumblr even tho I’ve been off and on , I’m staying now !!!

might go through the hassle of rereading the walking dead now that i am not working again for a little bit

#the beginning is so boring thouuuuuugh #id rather watch the first few seasons of the show than read those arcs in the comics #keheheheheh might just start reading at the part where they set up for all out war arc....#seriously the formation of Stable Factions did the narrative WONDERS #obviously in the beginning those factions have yet to form so its still important but i like how it all culminates #but like before they find alexandria its just TRAUMA after TRAUMA after TRAUMA. rick you are deeply fucked up #i like how the later parts do take into account the traumas they all gathered before. it informs how they react to certain situations #thats why i want to like LEGIT reread it though tbh. i just miss dwight #randomly remembers how ''heres negan'' was actually a super important expansion of why negan is the way he is. hes shockingly nuanced #especially because at face value he seems just like.. every abusive man's fantasy self-insert character #the way they made his disgust of s*xual violence a core part of his character arc

I wish more people understood Sheila E. so I could talk about the way I think they would've gotten on if Clara had lived. Like you're all about "everybody lives" this and "modern au" that. ok then, answer me this; how do you think Sheila's life would've been if Clara had lived and how can we apply that to her perspective during the helicopter crash/Night Bird Flying scene? answer, and quickly.

Being up here with Hunter means I sit here hugging him telling him I'm proud of him

Also screw my txt tag for this I ran out of tags ranting. I wouldn't know cws to slap on it anyway but I went on a lot about like Hunter reminding me of Alex because kid dealing with trauma and shit.

#I genuinely am like. He took the front for 2 weeks and it sucks being frontstuck with an isolated front for more than a week.#We deal with a lot of bullshit emotionally and mentally because we have so much time and room for trauma and other things to come+#+bother and hurt us. So to be ALONE dealing with that is so fucking awful.#It's so difficult for the adults in this system to deal with‚ Wels is 32 and things make him break down so easily.#I'd be the same age if mine was defined and shit gets to me easily too.#Hunter is only 16 and he dealt with things well honestly.#And I don't want him thinking he didn't do a good job of keeping it together cause again.#It's so hard for the adults to handle. It would be even harder for a kid.#I don't know how much sense I'm making I'm somewhat repeating things I told him.#Case in point this kid has been through so much shit before and I'm proud of him #And I just feel such a need to tell him that #Maybe it's just like really protective instinct we have tbh.#Because a lot of us are adults and we exist in the first place because of shit that a kid had to go through.#Since Alex is 15 and our core* in a way it makes sense that we would be extra protective over a kid around that age #*We use another definition for core keep in mind. Alter assuming body's identity + taking the role of the child.#That also includes having gone through most of the trauma head on and holding a lot of it.#There's no such thing as a core alter in other more typical terms but it's super preferred for us to use that unique definition #You get the point though #And like. Yuliy is 17 but really not like a typical teenager nor is he at all like Alex was.#So it's not the same there.#But Hunter is 16 and while not necessarily ''similar'' he still is more like an actual teenager.#And a really emotionally and mentally damaged one who went through hell.#Just like Alex. So yeah. I think we're just instinctively really protective over anyone that may be like that.#I think Faine remotely calmed Hunter down somehow at one point but I don't exactly know how #And I immediately felt the strong need to protect this kid #It's different from the protective instinct for younger kiddos like Melody #Also another point Jay is 15 but they're a stable alter and not really like Alex at all #Idk I'm rambling at this point #Hunter is just different okay something about him reminds us of Alex and makes us really protective over him.#And that something is probably y'know a lot of fucking trauma and emotional wreckage.

Lloyd garmadon hcs (romantic & reg hcs)

A/N: This is first post on here 😭 I’m super into ninjago right now so I might as well write abt it. And Lloyd is super pookie bear 🫶

Romantic:

-When you guys first start dating, Lloyd is a bit distant and awkward since A. He’s never been in a legitimate relationship before and B. He has insane trauma from Harumi.

-But over time, he’ll start to warm up to you and he falls so hard.

-Loves to read comics with you, it’s such a guilty pleasure (and he’s a big nerd.)

-When he’s with you, he’s always holding your hand or resting his hand on your lower back. He’s pretty protective for a lot of reasons lol.

-Very prone to venting to you.

-Every once in awhile, he takes you out in ninjago city for a date on a rooftop of a building. It’s not the best place for a date but he’s not much of a romantic 🤷‍♀️

-Always takes care of you when you’re sick. He makes soup and tea for you, and sits by your side, holding your hand while talking about whatever.

-He’s such a cuddle bug!! He loves laying on your chest while you tangle your fingers in his hair. And vice versa.

-Loves to kiss you on your face, esp your cheek and your nose. Seeing your face get all blushy after he surprises you with a kiss really makes him happy.

-Feels a little self conscious around you about certain things, like his dad or his oni form since they’re kind of touchy subjects. But a little reassurance from you will help his self esteem a ton.

-he likes it when you braid his hair or play with it in any way,

-if you’re up to it, lloyd loves training with you. Even if he always manages to beat your ass accidentally 😭

-When you two are together, Kai will do EVERYTHING in his willpower to embarrass Lloyd for funsies.

-One time, he totally showed you a picture of when Lloyd was little and that atrocious bowl cut. Let’s just say Kai was locked out of the monastery for a good 3 days 😁

-He would most definitely call you nicknames like “baby” or a shorter version of your full name

-He try’s keeps it simple bc he doesn’t want to be like one of those cringy “pookie bear” couples lmao

-Misako and Wu would definitely love you immediately after Lloyd introduces you (more so misako), no questions asked.

-(based on a rewrite of crystalized I’m writing soon 🫶) Garmadon though? It depends. If you get to know him a bit better, then he’ll probably warm up to you. He’s just a bit weary because of the whole harumi thing.

-Kinda same with the Ninja honestly, but they’ll warm up to you super quick when they see how you treat lloyd and how happy you make him. They just want the best for him is all.

General:

-Lloyd really values his hair, like a ton. He takes super good care of it. And I really like to think after the events of crystalized, he started to actually grow his hair out.

-And by the time of dragons rising, his hair is all the way down to his lower back (he puts it in a low ponytail most of the time for combat reasons.)

-He’s both Japanese and Chinese!

-demiromantic/sexual and omnisexual!!

-Looked up to Nya as a mother figure when he was little, and still does. He loves misako but resents her deep down.

-Has a little stubble in DR, kinda canon but whatevs.

-Has a pretty good singing voice, but only really does it in private.

-Outside of his Gi, the clothes he usually wears is just a jacket, a t-shirt and jeans 😭 he has like 15 jackets in his closet (he’s just like me fr)

-Has scars like all over his body, and some on his face from like the millions of battles he’s been in.

-He’s a little chubby, but has pretty muscular arms (🤭)

-Lloyd has like small non-human features that nod to the fact that he’s half oni and dragon.

-Like pointy ears, sharp teeth, and slitted pupils.

-Sometimes when he’s in his feels, probably around crystalized, he feels as if he wants to abandon his role as the green ninja and live a simpler life. Anakin skywalker core tbh.

-Still has an adoration for candy.

-Every once in awhile, he still heads to Ninjago Doomsday Comix to buy a new issue of a comic he likes.

-He would probably enjoy music like Radiohead and mitski. He’s THE boy loser ever.

A/N: I can’t think of much else but I hope you guys enjoyed these!! I’ll write at my own pace for a little bit and then I’ll open requests. I gotta make a carrd sometime soon lmfao 😭

I'm watching 1.7 and the break in Flint's voice when Gates is questioning him in the stable and he's like "I'm trying to answer the question" is devastating. The facial acting that Toby is doing here is like, he does great body language here and the trembling voice and nervous swallowing and darting eyes, you can see him trying to stave off some kind of extreme anxiety attack. Because. Like. God the flashbacks he must be having to London and Hennessey and Alfred Hamilton. Anyway, what he is saying just gets more and more desperate throughout the exchange, but legit he is trying to level with Gates the only way that he can in this moment. There is no version of Flint right now who could tell the whole truth, bc of his background, bc of the trauma, bc of what happened last time he trusted someone like that. So when we see what appears to be a mental BREAK, and he tells Gates his vision of sequestering a portion of the Urca gold for the future of Nassau and their men, that's him trying to explain his motivation the best way he can.

And the worst part is, he just sounds crazy and meglomaniacal and Machiavellian and DERANGED. It's exactly the wrong thing to say to Gates at that moment, they have already broken apart, it's too little too late, it's ten years too late!! Gates is hearing a lying maniac being conniving and cold and awful about Billy. But tbh, when I hear Flint say "He fell. Why? What do you think happened?" I just hear someone that WE KNOW doesn't know in his heart of hearts WHAT HE DID, WHAT HAPPENED, and he just... it would be easier if someone just told him.

I know we joke about Flint being full of SHIT, and he is in MUCH of the show, he does SO MUCH LYING. But this entire exchange doesn't feel like that. It feels like he's cracking and reaching and grasping and trying. And he has no earthly idea what path he would even take to get Gates back on side.

Gates says, "This is what we do. You orate and you dissemble and I look the other way..."

And the saddest fucking part, the most tragic of the tragedy is that HE'S NOT WRONG. That is what they do!! and it's. It's over! It's too much!

But poor fucking Captain, he just... He doesn't know how else to be.

And with regard to SilverFlint, and their arc... I've been thinking this go round about why it's different from Flint's relationship with Miranda or with Gates or with anyone...

And, well... It really is just a case of finding deep understanding from a person you never expected, isn't it?

At first it is extremely begrudging, because he doesn't have another choice, unwilling allies due to strife. But eventually it does becomes voluntary.

At its core, I think the reason that relationship is different, is because that becomes clear to Flint over time, and then he is able to offer up all the sides of himself to be further collated and understood.

And then faster than the speed of fucking light we get to 3.10 and 4.9: "You asked me where I began, and I felt that you were entitled to an answer. To the truth." and "I cannot do it without you." Silver says, "We might be friends by then" and by fuckin god they ARE. "As my partner as my friend" and "You know of me all I can bear to be known. All that is relevant to be known. That is to say, you know my genuine friendship and loyalty." So, what I've been circling is... sitting down in the woods and just telling Silver everything that happened in London is exactly what he can't do with Gates in 1.7 :////

there is a huge debate on Twitter where someone suddenly started caring about sexualizing religious figures (nuns in this case) and that not even trauma is an excuse to do this

and you guessed it, the post gathered a ton of likes, puriteens agreeing that it’s bad, radfems agreeing with them and it let Nazis flock to the post who called queer people bad things (and OP didn’t care, they just “wanted to make a statement”)

The thing is though, I agree that sexualizing people who don’t want to be sexualized is bad. However:

no one was talking about irl nuns, people sexualize the concept of putting a character into a costume and they do this definitely not because they hate Christianity

Nuns often don’t become nuns out of free will, there are often personal things involved that force women into becoming chaste and modest

This forced chastity and modestity religion imposes on women is already objectification

funnily enough sex and divinity are more connected than these people believe

the worst isn’t someone drawing a sexy nun but the church demonizing BIPOC, abusing, children and women, covering up said abuse, erasing the language to help victims, and tbh they also largely fund and or promote anti LGBTQ+ legislations.

The fact that this is all overlooked for the sake of protecting the boundaries of entirely fake characters and having antis (both young and old) agree or play dumb when you tell them that THESE are bigger issues makes me mad. Like there wasn’t a single real nun who objected, they were all mad about the boundaries of people that weren’t involved at all

also assuming that women choose to become nuns because they don’t want to be sexualized is already the core belief of radical feminists. So much for progressiveness!

and my god so many people agree that trauma victims are also less worth than the chastity of a fake nun

Honestly, the sexualization of nuns is so funny to me because... I mean, why do they care? Promise you guys that most nuns aren't scrolling twitter r34 and getting personally offended by Alastor in religious cloaks. And also, nuns aren't going to have sex anyway, so the kink stays completely in fiction whether that's writing or roleplay.

Atsushi

You don't work at the ADA and being friends with the members is important to Atsushi considering they're his only family

So seeing you get along so well Kenji makes him happy - he sees him as a brother in some ways

But having him encroach on his time with you has made him a little jealous - he's working on it, but you come to the ADA to visit him not Kenji

So seeing how much time Kenji takes up? A little difficult to take up

You even say "where's my boy?" when referring to him

Excuse you? He's your boy

The orphanage did not help him when it came to relationship stuff like this. He is a little needy for your time - sue him, he just wants to be with his s/o

Will try to now avoid having the two of you meet up at the ADA or meet his coworkers so he can get as much time with you as possible (it doesn't work. they always find him.)

He thought it was great at first

Tried to tease Kenji by pretending to be his dad

Would annoy Kunikida too

"Oh, sorry, my son needs help, I can't do paperwork right now. Maybe next time!"

Since you and Kenji are so close he'll try to make him do tasks he doesn't want to do - if Kenji is coming over then he will make that poor boy do any sort of housework he was too lazy to do

He is annoyed though when he has to act PG-13 around him because you would beat him otherwise

You also let him join your lunch dates occasionally along with Kyouka - it's just downstairs, why would you force those kids to pay for their meals?

You take them around the city too - Dazai is of course forced to join you

No point in arguing, he's basically forced to act like their dad for the day

At least he gets compliments for it

Yosano

She's really fond of Kenji - he's a sweetheart, an angel

So I feel like she would be pretty ok with being more friendly with him

Convinced you would hangout with Kenji when she's doing her "operations" since they might take a while

He would get you two to go on fun dates though - probably some cottage core stuff like picking fruit trees

It's mostly those two doing the picking while you come over and bring them water and snacks

She doesn't have the heart to be jealous about you giving a lot of time to Kenji

But she is very honest with her feelings if she starts to feel left out

She loves Kenji but she has her limits too

Ranpo

He definitely plays along with it

The man is childish as hell but I don't think he would get upset at something like this

If anything it's the perfect time to but into the situation and be annoying

He drags Kenji into pretending to be 10 and going to stores with the two of you so you can get good deals or free snacks (they're all for him)

It does lead to Kenji following him into his lunch dates with you though, which he hates because he can't ever let Kenji pay for himself since he's so young (childhood trauma is real)

He definitely plays up being a "fun dad" around him and Kyouka, especially when you're around

Convinced he's relieving the time he had with his parents before they died, so that's part of why he enjoys it so much

I'd do more but these guys are probably the most interesting for the prompt tbh !?

Something that I'm starting to hate is the whole "Jason's eyes glow green when he's angry" or that his eyes are blue/green, but mostly the first point. It's just not true and it's kind of stupid tbh. If there's any actual canon evidence that he has had green eyes or glowing green eyes, please let me know, but I'm like 90% sure that most, if not all, canon comics have him with just regular blue eyes.

And also, I don't like "pit madness". It's weird and as much as I love jason, it's like a stupid excuse for some of his more vile behaviors. He did the things he did because he's mentally ill and has some hard-core ptsd and trauma and nobody to help him through it. Those actions were all him, not because of the Lazarus pit.

Honestly, anything involving jason being superhuman or permanently affected by the pit in that way needs to just disappear. He's just a dude, an impressive one with amazing skills, but still just a human dude, with mental illness and some hard-core daddy issues...and mommy issues let's be real.

I saw a lot of sa survivors say that they feel disgusted and taken advantage of by that group of friends because they are misusing the words to an extreme lvl (i am also one of those people)

At this point im just angry and disgusted by them and i genuinely hope they will lie in the bed they made sooner rather than later

yeah I saw a lot of victims say similar things and tbh I feel similar, like my trauma keeps getting used to shit on someone they dislike and it’s been happening for over a year :/ fuck the “behind the scenes” people, pissed off at all of them

Tbh i really hate when ppl act as if Jiang Cheng was "rotten from the start" and never actually cared about Wei Wuxian as a brother. Like, in the latter's case we can see he cares very much but that care is very much mixed in with many negative feelings, it's like when you love someone but they hurt you but you still love them, you want things to go back to the way they were before but they can't and they won't. On the former it's pretty much canon that he was an ok if high strung young man and losing everyone he ever loved in very close proximity to each other is what made him be the way he is today, he's not evil (he'd be hotter if he was) he's just angry and bitter for very valid reasons

I think it takes an extreme case of Protagonist Bias to think that. And not even following the actual protagonist's thought process - just being biased on their account in some sort of a projection. Kids these days got to used to having their bad guys colour-coded.

People are so desperate to cast a villain to the Happy Couple they will grasp at any straw to justify their opinion. They will ignore every piece of text that explains in detail why things are happening and why he's acting the way he is - even to the point of ignoring the protagonist explaining what happened and how. They will literally ignore the protagonist they're wanting to stan just so that they can have their villain. Wei Wuxian needs to be massively nerfed and woobifed for the whole shitshow to start making sense. Literally, a man with no agency! Poor helpless victim! The poorest little baby, no one suffered as he did!:(

Meanwile, Jiang Cheng's biggest sin in the novel?

He's not nice.

That's it. He tried to protect Wei Wuxian from his mother. He did all he could to bring Wei Wuxian home after the war against his best interests. He walked away from Lan Zhan being a dick when he could have easily caused him problems. He only ever fought Wei Wuxian when it was either staged or he was attacked first (in the much brought up ancestral shrine scene that people don't seem to have actually read).

But he's not nice about it. He's not even stoicly stiff like the ever-amazing Lan Wangji (who only ever cared about one thing in his life, and it's the man he wanted to fuck roughly in the bushes-_-).

It was barely a decade from having his whole extended family horrifically murdered, so obviously he should be fine by this point. (We can ignore the main plot of the decade-in the making-revenge-plot, that's not important, that's not a theme at all!) At least he should learn to repress his trauma! Because that ended great for the protagonist, right?:)

You need an intense case of lack of comprehension to miss the fact that, until the very moment of the Core Reveal, every bit of information Jiang Cheng had available to him pointed directly to Wei Wuxian being at fault for the tragedy his life became. The only doubt cast upon that conclusion was the spark of love that he could not kill. JC trusted Wei Wuxian for as long as he could. He trusted him - against a myriad of signs that he maybe shouldn't have - until the man killed his brother in law.

That's where any sane person would stop and reconsider.

And yet he was still willing to be convinced otherwise - until his sister died in his arms.

Like, this is what it took for JC to snap.

If someone says that Jiang Cheng was "rotten from the start" that only tells me they have skipped the whole fourth of the book that tells us in detail why Jiang Cheng wasn't a bad kid and how much he loved his family and Wei Wuxian. It tells me that they are here only for the romance and can't see anything else, certainly not character development (why would they? Wanxian don't develop throughout the story in any impactful way except of "oh, hey, we can be together and not care about anyone else - just like we did it before, but now with fucking included!"). It's like people who don't read books cannot comprehend the fact the author thought about this shit and put it there on purpose. It's not something that just happened to fill the pages between the Romance bits for the word count. That's, like, the actual meat of the story? These people have the critical thought capacity of a fucking tiktoker-_-

The author is telling us: look at these kids that were raised in a broken family and how it affects them as teens and young adults. How it affected their relationships with the people they love and demolished their self-worth. Look how a broken family can leave it's children scarred for life!

The idiots online: one is an innocent angel that never did anything wrong and the other an evil, selfish and hateful brat, got'cha! I am very smart!
