out of time (for now)
akiangel / manga spoilers, you have been warned. title from The one and only akiangel song, out of touch
i don't think this is canon compliant to the manga past A Point?? idk man i got emotionally destroyed after that whole mess
i. aftermath
Denji manages to find Power, and it barely takes him a month. Nayuta is left with Kishibe during that time, and he manages to explain enough of the situation to Power that the little girl isn't immediately torn to pieces by her (how Power retained her memories, he isn't sure, but he's grateful that she did).
Kishibe's 'welcome-back' gift to them both is a pair of tickets up to Hokkaido and back, and a set of directions. He tells them that the directions lead to where Hayakawa Aki's gravestone has been situated, and agrees to continue looking after Nayuta until after their second trip out of Tokyo is complete.
Power shouts a lot, when they get back to the apartment (theirs, now- it's not Aki's, not anymore). She yells about how it's a terrible welcome-back-from-hell present, about the fact that Denji has to take care of Nayuta, about the fact that there's only two tickets and the Angel Devil should have gotten one as well. They both ignore the way Power's voice cracks, or the way she looks at the shut door to Aki's room with something in-between hope and grief.
Denji knows that the Angel Devil hasn't been seen since the confrontation with Makima. He caught a glimpse of Angel, briefly, eyes wide and pained, and then nothing- the only trace of Angel found since then a white feather Denji found on the apartment balcony.
So, Denji and Power take the train up to Hokkaido, both of them subdued and quiet. Neither one has much to say, really. Power asks a few listless questions about what Denji's been up to, between the last time they met and him dragging her out of hell, but the conversation just... dies out. As Denji watches the scenery fly by, he can't help but think of a boy in the snow, waiting for his little brother so they can play catch.
Hokkaido is... pretty, Denji supposes. He can't really comment on it, seeing as they're both preoccupied with their own thoughts. The site that's been arranged is hidden in familiar woods, and Denji suspects it's located close to where Aki's family house used to be. As they make their way through the trees, Denji spots a flash of red hair and feathered wings, and can't really be surprised by it. As the Angel Devil turns to glance at them, he can tell the other isn't surprised to see the two of them, either.
Aki's gravestone is made from dark blue stone, his name carved into it with skillful precision. There are flowers planted around his grave, white ones that look like birds in flight, or a pair of spread wings- the flowers according to Aki's will, apparently.
"White egret orchids," the Angel Devil supplies, when he sees Denji gazing at the flowers, "Allegedly, they mean something similar to 'my thoughts will follow you into your dreams'."
Power opens her mouth, but shuts it as Angel turns back to the gravestone. If Denji were to guess, he'd say she was probably thinking something along the lines of 'You sure it's not just because they look like your wings?'. He might have asked that, to be fair.
They don't get the chance to say any more, as Angel moves forward until he's standing right at the gravestone, eyes unreadable.
"Two months," he says, and Denji's eyes widen as a blade falls into the devil's outstretched hand. A knife, like a dagger, light glinting off the blade. The hilt is a familiar shade of blue, marked with silver detail, and Denji can't quite place it. He watches Angel move forward, lay the blade at the gravestone, and whisper something to it before standing up and moving towards the forest, vanishing into the snowy trees.
Both he and Power know, somehow, that they'll never see the Angel Devil again- no one will. He won't stick around in this realm.
(They wouldn't have tried to hear what Angel said, that was strictly between him and Aki; but if they had managed to listen in, they'd have heard more emotion than either of them thought the Angel Devil capable of showing, words the devil never thought he would say. "You don't just get to leave me alone like that. Wait for me, Hayakawa Aki, until I find you again, and we can do it right this time.")
ii. epilogue
Not everything will end in tragedy- sometimes, it just takes a bit of time.
There is a laugh, and two figures walking down the street. The one with long, autumn-red hair swipes an ice cream cone from his taller companion, grinning at him as they hold hands.
"That's mine," the taller one says, though there's no real annoyance in his voice- just a quiet, affectionate tone, that he reserves specifically for his companion. Said companion blinks up at him, "It's my favourite flavour." "I know."
They continue walking, chatting along the way- their fingers interlocked. The taller one leans down to kiss his companion's cheek, smiling at him, "I'm glad you found me again."
"So am I. We'll do it right this time."
[end]

Just recently remembered how Sunny named his headspace alter to Omori, which is the name of their piano. And i thought, maybe Sunny named himself Omori in headspace so that Mari spends more time with him like how real world Mari spends more time on her piano than him

I finished Omori today and I am shooketh.
If you can work with the mental health warnings and go in blind, this game is a whole experience. That’s all I’m going to say. It’s definitely on my list of games to recommend now.
Wow.

There is nothing here.
Mod note: Alas I have returned! Now there used to be a bigger drawing I was working on before this one but that one is old so I scrapped it. I hope to continue this this time without leaving before it

the fact that shakespeare was a playwright is sometimes so funny to me. just the concept of the "greatest writer of the English language" being a random 450-year-old entertainer, a 16th cent pop cultural sensation (thanks in large part to puns & dirty jokes & verbiage & a long-running appeal to commoners). and his work was made to be watched not read, but in the classroom teachers just hand us his scripts and say "that's literature"
just...imagine it's 2450 A.D. and English Lit students are regularly going into 100k debt writing postdoc theses on The Simpsons screenplays. the original animation hasn't even been preserved, it's literally just scripts and the occasional SDH subtitles.txt. they've been republished more times than the Bible
#due to the Great Data Decay academics write viciously argumentative articles on which episodes aired in what order#at conferences professors have known to engage in physically violent altercations whilst debating the air date number of household viewers#90% of the couch gags have been lost and there is a billion dollar trade in counterfeit “lost copies”#serious note: i'll be honest i always assumed it was english imperialism that made shakespeare so inescapable in the 19th/20th cent#like his writing should have become obscure at the same level of his contemporaries#but british imperialists needed an ENGLISH LANGUAGE (and BRITISH) writer to venerate#and shakespeare wrote so many damn things that there was a humongous body of work just sitting there waiting to be culturally exploited...#i know it didn't happen like this but i imagine a English Parliament House Committee Member For The Education Of The Masses or something#cartoonishly stumbling over a dusty cobwebbed crate labelled the Complete Works of Shakespeare#and going 'Eureka! this shall make excellent propoganda for fabricating a national identity in a time of great social unrest.#it will be a cornerstone of our elitist educational institutions for centuries to come! long live our decaying empire!'#'what good fortune that this used to be accessible and entertaining to mainstream illiterate audience members...#..but now we can strip that away and make it a difficult & alienating foundation of a Classical Education! just like the latin language :)'#anyway maybe there's no such thing as the 'greatest writer of x language' in ANY language?#maybe there are just different styles and yes levels of expertise and skill but also a high degree of subjectivity#and variance in the way that we as individuals and members of different cultures/time periods experience any work of media#and that's okay! and should be acknowledged!!! and allow us to give ourselves permission to broaden our horizons#and explore the stories of marginalized/underappreciated creators#instead of worshiping the List of Top 10 Best (aka Most Famous) Whatevers Of All Time/A Certain Time Period#anyways things are famous for a reason and that reason has little to do with innate “value”#and much more to do with how it plays into the interests of powerful institutions motivated to influence our shared cultural narratives#so i'm not saying 'stop teaching shakespeare'. but like...maybe classrooms should stop using it as busy work that (by accident or designs)#happens to alienate a large number of students who could otherwise be engaging critically with works that feel more relevant to their world#(by merit of not being 4 centuries old or lacking necessary historical context or requiring untaught translation skills)#and yeah...MAYBE our educational institutions could spend less time/money on shakespeare critical analysis and more on...#...any of thousands of underfunded areas of literary research i literally (pun!) don't know where to begin#oh and p.s. the modern publishing world is in shambles and it would be neat if schoolwork could include modern works?#beautiful complicated socially relevant works of literature are published every year. it's not just the 'classics' that have value#and actually modern publications are probably an easier way for students to learn the basics. since lesson plans don't have to include the#important historical/cultural context many teens need for 20+ year old media (which is older than their entire lived experience fyi)

To illustrate this post by @mayahawkse I would like to visualize to you the difference:
A post in 2023:
Tumblr media
A post in 2014:
Tumblr media
A zoom out of the same post:
Tumblr media
This is what a community looks like.
See how in 2023 almost all of the reblogs come from the OP, from their few hours/days in the tag search. Meanwhile in 2014 the % of reblogs from OP is insignificant, because most of the reblogs come from the reblogs within the fandom, within the micro-communities formed there. You didn't need to rely on tags, or search, or being featured. Because the community took care of you, made sure to pass the work between themselves and onto their blog and exposed their followers to it. It kept works alive for years.
It's not JUST the reblog/like ratio that causing this issue, it's the type of interaction people have. They're content with scrolling and liking the search engine, instead of actually having a reblogging relationship with other blogs in their community.
Anyways, if you want to see more content you like, the only true way to make it happen is to reblog it. Likes do not forward content in no way but making OP feel nice. Reblogs on the other hand make content eternal. They make it relevant, they make it exist outside of a fickle tumblr search that hardly works on the best of days.
If you want more of something, reblog it.
