Ok I swear I will go to bed after this and I have made basically this same post before but while people talk a lot about Vimes' possession by a spirit of vengeance, I love the storyline of Tiffany getting possessed by an entity of desperate desire. She spends the whole book out of her element, struggling to fit in socially, wanting something to hide behind, and the hiver feels the same way. It's formless and helpless without a body to wear, and all it wants is to accumulate whatever will keep itself safe. It doesn't realize what that does to everyone around it. It's our id. It gives us what we want, even when it's not what we need.

And Tiffany gets her body taken over and watches herself threaten and steal and kill, forced to acknowledge that these actions stem from what the hiver sees in her, and when she gets free she pities it. She understands what it means to be scared and alone and ruled by your worst impulses. She gives it a name. She takes its metaphorical hand and helps it through the door. (And then accidentally gets stuck in the land of the dead and has to get dragged back, man Tiff what is it with you and underworlds). God I love her.

i have spilled so much ink about gawyn but really i only need 2 passages to explain why he is Like That

1. My blood shed before hers; my life given before hers...That was the oath he had taken when barely tall enough to peer into Elayne's cradle. ... Gareth Bryne had had to explain to him what it meant, but even then he had known he had to keep that oath if he failed at everything else in his life. (LOC prologue)

2. From Morgase, Queen of Andor, to her beloved son, Gawyn. May he be a living sword for his sister and Andor. (ACOS prologue)

like yeah, no wonder he does what he does in AMOL. people will be like "gawyn is so stupid for not thinking about the fact that his death would hurt egwene" as if he's being maliciously stupid and careless, when in fact, he has such little self-worth that he genuinely does not consider himself a valuable human being whose loss would impact anyone or anything. his life given before hers. a living sword. this has been his mindset since toddlerhood and nobody ever noticed it enough to try and counteract it. gawyn is exactly what rand would have been like at the last battle if he hadn't had a mental health intervention.

Considering the cast has grand ideas like "all of us are down to become immortal, tbh Jaheira", "I am at risk of dying from being burned alive from the inside", and "I'd like to be a god", you don't necessarily need to fuck around with ancient unstable magics for that (although in the later case, it does take a lot more time and work and risk of death).

There are generally easier ways to gain these things (except for apotheosis), but in 5e you can still solve these problems with insane amounts of XP: you need to reach level 20, when the ability score caps are raised from the mortal limits of 20 to 30, and instead of levelling up "epic boons" are put on the table (which is basically the equivalent of epic levels).

"[Boons are] extraordinary and represent the gradual transformation of a character into something resembling a demigod."

(This is the point where you're warming up towards getting ready to pick fights with the gods*; find yourself a chunk of divine essence and welcome to the start of the divine ladder, mx new quasi-deity... also it may start to alter your physical appearance as you become something more than human[oid])

Depending on DM fiat, you can get these due to plot events whenever the DM feels like awarding you one, or you gain one every 30,000xp acquired (the equivalent of levelling up). I believe beating a Solar to death will net you one, slaying an ancient red or gold dragon will net you two...

The growth in power allows various things ranging from mundane stuff like increasing your ability scores (so stuff like an almost perfect memory, the ability to process information at superhuman speed, being literally the most interesting person in the world, superhuman reflexes, or bench pressing an elephant would be within your reach) or becoming eternally healthy (immune to poison and disease of any kind)...

...over to more esoteric stuff like having permanent truesight, and hopping between the planes of reality at will, or ageless and irrevocable immortality, or turning invisible at will whenever you stand in darkness, or hacking magic. Also full immunity to specific forms of damage: Karlach's engine can't kill her if she's immune to fire. There is no boon on paper for immunity to radiant damage such as may be inflicted by the sun, but it's easy to imagine one existing.

The level cap in-game is 12, but I know the actual XP total is higher. I think I've seen people have it at least up to 15 with mods to remove the cap, but I'm not sure. Either way, I think the party is one decent campaign away from level 20. (And if we need epic level threats, Mephistopheles is clearly up to something, and it's bugging me; I think we should have a party reunion. In Mephistar. With silver weapons.)

“bakugo come on, we’re gonna be late!”

it was morning on a thursday, the sky seemed calm. there was no evident sign of the sun in the sky, only pale grey clouds covering it like a blanket. it was winter after all. you stood by the gate entrance of the home of the bakugo’s, waiting for probably one of the loudest kids in the neighborhood to show up already.

“bakugo, i swear to god, i’m leaving without you if you don’t hurry up!”

“ok, jesus y/n wait the fuck up!”

“i’ve been waiting for five minutes already, we gotta go!”

“then wait five more!”

he always knew how to retaliate your comments you gave him. both of you never really gave each other a chance to have a consistent winner in these games of screaming back and forth. you sighed for what seemed the umpteenth time. there was a little breeze coming in, so you hugged the jacket that covered your uniform closer to you. 

“bakugo!” you yelled a third time, a little irritated that he was taking so long, he never took long.

“y/n!” he yelled back, in the same tone as you did, asshole.

bakugo finally rushed out of his home's door, pausing only to hop slightly to adjust his shoes. he ran towards you with his light brown scarf in his hand. he huffed while wrapping it around his neck. 

“damn you can’t even wait a few minutes, impatient ass.”

“well you were taking too long while i was starting to feel my ass freeze over.“

he snorted and retorted with something along the lines of, “what ass?”

you rolled your eyes at him and walked along the sidewalk. it was thursday, a school day, and ever since you started going to school with bakugo, you were never late. so it seemed odd to you that all of a sudden to see him taking longer than he normally would have.

“soooo, why were you taking so long? forgot your underwear or something?”

“the fuck, hell no! i was just looking for something.”

“something? oh come on you’re not even going to give me a little hint to what made you so panicky this fine morning? you even made the clouds worried.”

bakugo gave you the stink eye. but at the same time he moved his left hand out of his pocket where he always seemed to stuff it in. he pulled out a glittery object, the size of a card. well maybe because it was a card, an all might card.

“i was looking for this you idiot.”

“...you know show and tell stopped like in elementary school, right?”

“of course i know!“ bakugo yelled back at you, he shoved it back in his pocket along with his hand. there was a moment of silence between you two, before he sighed and mumbled.

“i’ve always had it on me, you remember when i got those chips with deku and my old friends back then?” 

“the all might chips? yeah i remember those.”

“remember the card i showed you that i got from them?”

you shook your head slightly, to signal a ‘no’ until your mind went back to the card in his pocket. you let out a loud ‘oh!’.

“wait, but why do you still have it?” you wanted to know. those chips were just any old merchandise that helped all might’s name and company earn more money. any other kid could have had it. 

bakugo took another long line of silence before opening his mouth again. the tips of his ears were tinged a now slight pink, and it didn’t look like it was from the cold.

“...i... always wanted to have all might autograph it. wouldn’t mean shit to me if he just signed a random paper, though.”

you remained quiet for a few seconds. so it was that important to him? wait so how long has that card been with him? has he really always carried it alongside him? a small smile grew on your face, remembering when he came over to your house with his friend group shouting how he got all might’s card. he was so happy he was practically bouncing off the walls.

“one day, i’m gonna make all might sign this!” 

bakugo, the one in the present, gave you a side glance. you had a dumb smile on your face now, looking forward. he clenched his fist tighter and tried to shove them deeper into his pockets, which now seemed smaller than he remembered. did you think it was dumb? you always called some of his ideas dumb as a joke. he was so deep in worry that he didn’t notice you staring back at him.

he felt the base of his neck start to heat up under his scarf (thank god he had it on or he wouldn’t hear the end of it from you) and made a ‘tch’ sound. would you just talk to him already?

“well how about this, katsuki bakugo.”

you linked you arms together, only causing more heat to travel up his neck. he was still thankful for his scarf. 

“we’ll get all might to sign that card for you, even if we’re dying, we’ll insist on it.”

he blinked and then smirked at you.

“was already planning on it.”

i wonder what this means

we know judgeman's appearance is similar to lady justice, who has a blindfold over her eyes, to represent impartial or blind justice. it's interesting that during sukuna's trial, and subsequent death penalty veredict, the stitches break on one side and that eye opens. something that didn't happen during the first death penalty delivered to yuuji despite both eyes opening up. we know everything higuruma is aware about his own ct, and ce in general, he grasped through reverse engeneering. his surprise about judgeman confiscating sukuna's cursed tool and not the cursed technique highlights that higuruma is only aware of his own technique due to things he was able to experience and deduce from the short time that has passed since he became a sorcerer. it's safe to say he had never persecuted someone who used a cursed tool before and therefore was unaware of this aspect of his technique (similar situations have happened before to characters like geto and even the way mahoraga works). this makes me wonder if judgeman's abilities are something we and higuruma have limited information on and there's something else going on, hinting at a possible outcome for higuruma/higuruma's character.

judgeman's eye opening is especially interesting because that is exactly the stance higuruma decided to take once he lost faith in the justice system. jujutsu kaisen and the concept of cursed energy and cursed techniques are very based in buddhist philosophy, or rather the power system is, and more specifically the concept of suffering. buddha recognised there was suffering in life and started guiding people into following a practice to get rid of that suffering, through the four noble truths the noble eightfold path. which ultimately would result in liberation from the samsara, cycle of rebirth and suffering. a lot of that lifestyle is learning how to properly process suffering in a way that's beneficial to the individual with the goal of achieving enlightment. in jjk suffering directly creates cursed energy and when that suffering sort of accumulates it originates cursed spirits. jujutsu sorcerers are basically people able to process their own suffering and their own ce to fight and exorcise the suffering that's constantly emerging from humanity (tying deeply with the core theme of jjk and a big plot point - the merging). you could even draw parallels between ways individuals cope with their own pain and their cursed techniques, which is very obvious in characters like geto (ingesting curses through cursed spirit manipulation akin to bottling up his own feelings and letting that suffering eat him from the inside out), for example. where am i going with this? i'm not sure (sorry if you read all of this expecting a really cool theory) but what if this is sort of an awakening moment for higuruma? a moment where his technique will finally align with his beliefs? i just don't believe the differences in judgeman throughout the story are a coincidence. not when judgeman also has this form, with both its eyes completely shut.

Im so fond of the idea of Bradley realizing on some like random tuesday while looking at Hangman that he’s in love with him (skips like and goes straight to love) and immediately after thinking it refuses to process it.

Bradley is in love with Hangman and he refuses to think about that entirely.

But the problem about that is that Hangman is just fucking everywhere. Every corner he turns, there he is with a smirk plastered on his face opening his perfect fucking mouth to say something irritating like always, and Rooster just books it.

Straight up turns around and runs away like some child running away from their crush on the play ground.

And poor Hangman is just so confused.

Hangman thought maybe it was a one time thing. Maybe he smelled bad that day since he had just gotten back from a hop -yeah that must have been it- but then it just keeps happening over and over again.

Rooster runs away every time he sees him no explanation.

Jake walks into the cafeteria? Bradley drops his spoon mid bite of cereal and just runs out through the opposite entrance he had just walked into, despite literally being in the middle of a conversation with multiple people.

Bradley sees him on one end of the hallway? Immediately pushes the door he just opened closed and goes back in the direction he just came from even though he knows it’s impractical.

Hell he’s even taken to walking away from him everytime Jake goes up to him at the Hard Deck to goad him into a game.

It was driving him crazy.

So one day he ambushes him at his dorm, the one place he can’t make a run from, and pushes his way through the door before the older man could close the door on him.

He walks in already scolding him about his stupidity, asking questions like ‘what the fuck is wrong with you’ and ‘Have I done something wrong to cause you to literally run away at the sight of me’.

He only stops yelling when he sees Bradley standing awkwardly in his own room refusing to make eye contact as if he’d bite his head off or something.

“Anything you have to say for yourself Bradshaw?”

“You have very pretty eyes”

No one could blame him from spluttering at the unexpected response, really, because how does one just say that after being yelled at for avoiding somebody.

Bradley does eventually come clean about his realization and Jake definitely laughs in his face for it, but they figure it out so it all works out in the end.
