Embers of Eternity: A Snippet

A/N: A little glimpse into Fire & Flight's sequel (aka Embers of Eternity) that I love for a couple reasons: I got to explore a few different modes of transportation within my fantasy world and I got to reiterate the legend of the Shadow Forest (which probably isn't a shock to anyone given how it's my favorite😂)

People told stories about the haunted forest, and Nyla knew these legends well. She knew of the sorceress who had stolen magic from the land, and had subsequently lost control of it. She knew that the magic had been unleashed upon the land in a horrible fury—and on the army that had stood with the evil sorceress. And since hearing these legends from all sorts of different storytellers in her travels, Nyla once again found herself piecing together the tale in her mind while she remained idle. This time, it wasn’t merely different versions of the legend she’d heard, but rather the truth that she tried to fill the gaps of the legend in with.

The world outside their compartment faded away, just as the scarlet-splotched plum leaves and honey-gold trees of the Godberd Woods began to mix with the Harvum-kissed sapphire leaves and crackled ashen bark of the Shadow Forest. Nyla replaced the ambiguous figure of the sorceress detailed in the legends the people of her country told of the Shadow Forest with the all too real woman that she was.

Finally finished my charts for the upcoming translyric projects I want to do and ough... these are going to be so much harder than my first two ;---;

Guess Sammy has snow gastritis again 🥲 Just threw up the treats from earlier and had some really watery diarrhea. He'd had somewhat runny poo this afternoon already. But other than that he seems fine, still running around yelling at me and all, so I'm not really worried to much.

Am I going to feed him this evening or do I better postpone until tomorrow (probably the latter just to be sure)? And which protein source am I going to give him if chicken/ poultry is not an option? Or maybe I'm just going with potatoes and carrots at first and later mix in the usual soaked kibble. Provided it's just for a day or two it shouldn't be a problem.

Okay I have enough fics and shit to write right now as it is, I currently have 4 in the works 🙃, but last night while I was trying to sleep I had a thought. I think I came up with a very baseline very bare bones idea for a possible OUAD 2.

A possible title for which I came up with was Once Upon A Kingdom OUAK if you will. And literally as I typed this out, Once Upon A Winter OUAW akskskskk and it would take place months after the events of OUAD, Chazz and Atticus are officially a couple now, and Atty takes him on a trip to see the Northern Kingdom or the Crystal Kingdom if ur in with the OUAD deep lore 👀 where he and Lexi are from and with Jay, Sy, and Hassleberry in tow, winter wonderland hijinks and capers ensue 👀

Now I have no idea what the actual greater plot would be but I really like the idea of visiting another kingdom since in the 'deep lore' there are 5 kingdoms that exist in the world, but since the Kingdom of the East was canonically destroyed by Slade and Jagger before the events of OUAD, there's still 3 other kingdoms outside the Golden Kingdom. The northern, western, and southern kingdoms if you will. The Golden Kingdom is the central kingdom. So we get to see more of the world, and open the door for more of the ensemble cast to get involved, I fully intend to include Jesse and Bastion at the very minimum if I wrote this I fully imagined a whole conversation with Jaden and Jesse last night, immortal magical fairy Jay gets to flirt with the cute human boy 👀 so I have thoughts happening ☺

Like I said I have no idea what an actual greater plot would look like yet and I have way too much to work on right now to put too much thought into it right now, but I promise babes. OUAD 2 may be on the back burner right now, but it is also very firmly on the table 😉

New chapter today, and even though most of it seemed to continue the silly tone from the previous one, the last few pages actually shocked me! 👀

For the first time, ANYA CONFESSED TO SOMEONE THAT SHE CAN READ MINDS! Now this doesn't necessarily mean anything crazy will happen in the series from now on, since Damian doesn't believe her (at first). But proving that you can read minds is easy to do, so the question now becomes, will Anya keep trying to prove it to Damian until he believes her? Or will she regret it later and not try to prove it, and then the plot point isn't touched on again? Regardless, this chapter definitely makes it seem like Damian will be the first person to know about her mind-reading powers.

Then there's the question of why Anya chose to confess this to Damian? I think it's a combination of a few reasons, the main one being that Damian doesn't have any connection to her family, so little risk of him telling them and thus bringing about the fear of abandonment Anya has should they find out. This might also be why she chose to tell him over Becky, since Becky already has somewhat of a relationship with Loid and Yor. The other reason could be that, as time has gone on, she's learned to trust him, at least when it comes to something like this. As hostile as he is towards her, she knows that he's not a double-crosser or a blabbermouth, and deep down he wants to do what's right. And lastly, it was the heat of a moment - her knowledge about him seemed weird so he questioned it, and perhaps at that highlighted moment, when Damian was being genuinely nice to her (since she can read minds, she knows if he's being genuine or not), she wanted to try not lying for once, just to see what happens.

Guess we'll have to wait until next time to see if anything ground-breaking comes from this...will Anya keep pursuing this, will she regret it and let Damian continue to not believe her, or will it just not be mentioned again until later? This reminded me a bit of the Mole Hunt arc where Yuri became suspicious of Loid, but the latter was able to throw him off the track. But the seed of suspicious was planted nonetheless. In this case, even if Damian continues to think Anya was lying, a seed of suspicion may have been planted in him too that could come into play much later on. We'll see!

But besides this big event, a few other notable things in this chapter was super rare soft Damian from the above page. This continues to prove what I've always thought - that Damian acts the way he does to appear "proper" in front of his peers, but when he's alone with Anya, his real feelings seep out. She's a rare person where he doesn't feel the need to put on airs around.

We also got more Henderson x Martha crumbs. Love to see it.

Also loved to see Anya getting cocky and Loid freaking out about it 😅

Overall, even though I'm not as into Damianya as I am Twiyor, I still enjoy seeing their progress, and this chapter was definitely one of the most Damianya-chapters of all~ Despite some of the "dance with Damian" challenges being a bit too silly for my taste (like, how did Emile and Ewen organize all that last minute?) the payoff at the end was worth it! Loid and Yor better get themselves together or their daughter will end up beating them in the romance department 😂

For nearly 20 minutes after your and Price's opening statements, the problem became worse. Both MacTavish and Garrick began to get louder, pointing fingers at your client. You would occasionally roll your eyes and cover your smile when you'd see Price get frustrated over his client's words.

Maybe, after all, you'd win this one.

"No, what I'm saying is, if this absolute fookin' idiot understood how speakers and parties work, we wouldn't be here!" Kyle stands up and Price has to force him to sit back down.

Your client keeping calm, just like you had ordered them to. It's easy. These two guys are showing the court how bad of neighbours they can be and before you knew it, the men whom you stood upon, sighed as once again MacTavish cussed your client.

"Here's what we'll do, and Price, keep your clients shut or they will hurt themselves more," a deep sigh, "Y/N, your client is in the right. The papers and signatures are on file. Price, your clients are meant to keep quiet, not have a rave in their backyard. If there is one more complaint, the community in which both parties are a part of, can and will have the right to hand MacTavish and Garrick an eviction notice. Y/N, your client shan't step into their yard and if it does happen, MacTavish and Garrick can receive a restraining order against Mr. Allen."

It was clear this was a long one for the court to hear.

After the trial though, the two men Price represented were told to leave before your client saw them again. It was better this way.

You shook Price's hand, and he nodded at you and smiled. "You look rather beautiful today," he says in such a soft tone that makes him appear as if he was a completely different man from the one you argued against. "You look…okay for a shit lawyer," you smile back. "Oh darling," he laughs.

You don't have time for any proper conversation and as soon as you receive all files, you leave the room. Price knows where he can find you. After all, it's always been the number one spot for you to hang out after trials and long arguments.

The small pub that welcomes you also welcomes John. "Care to tell me why you're following me?" You turn to him and he gives you a cocky grin. "What, can't I come here to just relax?" "You? No."

"Still hurt over what happened years ago?" "You stole my case, of course I am. And you knew I was asking for it so I have no idea why the hell you'd go for it."

It was a known story. After all, it's how John and you became such rivals in court. But, it never has to end like that, right?

"It's called business darling," his hand snakes over yours and before anything else can happen, you pull away.

He sighs. "What, too good for me now?" His lips touching your ear. You shift away, trying to not yell at him here. It just isn't right, especially in front of so many others who respect you. "I'm not here to be annoyed by some-" You get cut off when he places his hand around your neck. "What, darling? Say it. Hmm, am I mediocre? incompetent? don't act like you weren't fucking moaning my name years ago. You and I know well that you liked me like I did you," his voice deep and in a whisper. Your hand on his wrist.

"You and I both know that was a mistake," you answer back and he shakes his head. "Tsk, tsk, mistakes are a one-time thing. You know you slept in my bed longer than anyone else. What? Sammy's had it quite a bit rough these past 2 weeks since his dental. He had developed an eczema at the butt which made it so painful for him to walk and poop that he entirely avoided both, so last week's Friday I had the vet give him an enema. Which did help a lot and thankfully did avoid more problems down the line (he's almost back to normal now thankfully!), but it was also very painful for him, on top of having a painful/ itchy mouth. What's worse, I had to bathe his butt several times to keep it clean so the eczema can heal, and all of these violations of his boundaries had shaken his trust in human beings in general quite a bit (he initially was even distrustful of my sister when he met her after a week or so of not seeing her and it took a bit of time until he seemed to 'remember' that she's good). But it also made him very clingy to me, he follows me everywhere/ starts whining if I go out of sight for even a minute and I'm a little worried he might develop some sort of 'I'm only ever safe if mom is present' mindset. Maybe he does it just because he's not 100% healed yet, but I might have to do something about it at the latest if he shows signs of it persisting beyond his full healing. :/

As a side note, it's interesting that his trust in me wasn't affected all that much despite me being responsible for at least half of the boundary violations. I do try to be patient and reassuring, though. 😅

A/n: girl, I'm sorry to hear that, here's a much too short fic that I hope will make you feel better(sorry I took so long)

The stupid pot was taking an eternity to fill, meanwhile, you could feel your legs ready to give in.

Once the water was finally enough you closed the tap and forced your body to step towards the stove.

Unwillingly, it did, but you still had to rest your elbow on the counter and give your head a rest as you turned the stove on.

Your brain felt about to explode from how much it hurt, it was as if a million splinters were loose in your cranium, and you couldn't do absolutely anything about it besides praying for it to stop together with your runny nose and your sore throat.

What a shitshow, you sighed, feeling your eyelids closing on their own accord when the front door opened.

"hola mi amor" Pedro half-shouted from the entrance, making you groan.

Too loud babe, too loud

"hey" he greeted again, entering the kitchen, but his expression changed immediately the moment he saw you doubled over the counter "hey, what happened?" he asked, concerned, as he rushed to you, his hand going to your back to try and soothe you.

" 'm sick" you responded with a creaky voice

"Wha-when? Why didn't you call me?"

you couldn't help but laugh a bit "I'm fine baby"

"you don't seem fine" he scolded "What are you even doing up?"

"I wanted tea"

he scoffed, done with you "You should have called me"

"to make tea?" you laughed, forcing yourself to stand up.

He put his hands on your waist, gently bringing you closer

"Yes. To make tea" he nodded, inching closer "and to take care of anything else you might need" he explained, going in for a kiss.

"no kisses" you stopped him "You're gonna get sick too"

"I don't care, sweetheart, 'just want to kiss my sick little lady," he said, making you roll your eyes, as you regardless accepted his lips on yours.

"now" he said, as he moved some hair out your face "go lie down"

"what about the tea?"

"I'll make the tea"

"I'm not dying Pedro, I can make some t-"

you weren't able to finish the sentence as you felt your feet being lifted from the ground. You let out a small yelp as he picked you up bridal style.

"Baby!" you whined, hitting his chest "I can walk"

"doesn't mean you should" He didn't give your complaints any mind as he walked you to the bedroom.

He kicked the door open and laid you down on the bed.

"here," he said, covering your body with the sheets "I don't want to see you getting up anymore alright?"

You smiled, looking up at him "What if I have to pee?"

He shook his head, grinning "We'll figure that out" he said, bending down to kiss your forehead "Rest now, I'll bring you the tea as soon as it's ready"

" alright" you mumbled, relishing in the feeling of your bed

"Are you hungry?" he murmured sweetly

"mh-mh" you nodded

"I'll make you some soup" he decided

"I don't want soup"

He smiles while listening to you. It's like you have no idea how precious you are to him, you can ask him for anything and he'll always do your bidding. You can ask him for the stars, he'll map out the entire universe for you.

"Yes, and I was being serious. In the future, I want to have kids with you. I'm in it for the long run baby. I don't really see anyone else being the mother of my children"

"Children, so as in plural" you giggle

"Yea, but it's up to you. How many you want, that's how may I want to"

You look up at him, smiling so big it almost hurts. "Do you have any idea what you do to me, Jeong Jaehyun?" you whisper

"As you do, my love. I don't even understand it sometimes, all I know is you're on my mind always" he said looking straight in your eyes

He holds the back of your neck, pulling your face towards his until your lips are against his. He can feel you smile against the kiss, making him do the same. You move from sitting beside him to sitting on his lap, his other hand holding your hip in place.

The two of you get lost in each other's touch, kiss until you run out of breath. He kisses your face, down your neck until he finds the spot only he knows about. The one that makes you squirm and make all the pretty noises he's crazy about.

"At this rate, you're going to give me a child before new year comes" you breathed out. Hugging his head against you. You can feel his lips continue on doing the magic, it will definitely leave a mark you thought.

"Should I start calling you daddy now?" you rasped out, vou feel him stop what he was doing,

"Oh you're definitely getting it now" he says before standing up, lifting you along. Hands under your thigh's as he carries you towards the bedroom, your giggles echoing down the halls.
