crazy seeing rightwing people calling the barbie movie anti-men considering i’m pretty sure the “i’m just ken” song did more good for men’s mental health than any number of their shitty little incel forums combined

"the parallels between Bruce and the robins all becoming orphans young" ok that's nice but the parallels between Bruce and Cass both having lost their innocence after being confronted with death at 8 years old. The way they both have let the grief, the guilt, the impotence haunt them ever since and transformed it into more. The way they both, though in different ways, lost their parent(s). The way that the traumatic instances (and their upbringing until then) couldn't have been more different, yet it affected them so similarly and are the pillars for their current moral code and suicidal tendencies. Can't think about them too much or I go insane

TEXAS TRANSFEMS GETTING KICKED OUT
THIS IS THE BIG ONE LADIES AND GENTS
Well, as soon as we got back on our feet enough to be able to make rent, we're losing our home. We have to move on short notice (short in the scale of the rental application process). I have like eight dollars in my bank account. We're gonna have uhauls to rent, security deposits to make, application fees to pay (for the 4 of us, applying to any property costs $200-400 and we don't even know if we'll get approved). I called the property manager probably half a dozen times trying to see if we can work something out, but... Nope.
We're totally fucked unless we can get your help. Please, if there's anything, anything at all you can do to help, please please do. There's a couple places we're looking at that seem like they might be solid bets, but no matter what we're looking down the barrel of thousands of dollars we don't have and many days of work missed. Please share this, we're in more danger than we've ever been in before.
If there's anything you can spare, please... We're boned otherwise.

The deeply moralist tone that a lot of discussions about media representation take on here are primarily neoliberal before they are anything else. Like the shouting matches people get into about “purity culture” “pro/anti” etc nonsense (even if I think it’s true that some people have a deeply christian worldview about what art ought to say and represent about the world) are downstream of the basic neoliberal assumption that we can and must educate the public by being consumers in a market. “Bad representation” is often framed as a writer’s/developer’s/director’s/etc’s failure to properly educate their audience, or to educate them the wrong way with bad information about the world (which will compel their audience to act, behave, internalise or otherwise believe these bad representations about some social issue). Likewise, to “consume” or give money to a piece of media with Bad Representation is to legitimate and make stronger these bad representations in the world, an act which will cause more people to believe or internalise bad things about themselves or other people. And at the heart of both of those claims is, again, the assumption that mass public education should be undertaken by artists in a private market, who are responsible for creating moral fables and political allegories that they will instil in their audiences by selling it to them. These conversations often become pure nonsense if you don’t accept that the moral and political education of the world should be directed by like, studio executives or tv actors or authors on twitter. There is no horizon of possibility being imagined beyond purchasing, as an individual consumer in a market, your way into good beliefs about the world, instilled in you by Media Product

By the way, when I say that I really do believe that we will make it, I am 100% saying that as someone who has been following good news extensively + basically daily for over two years now, and has come to that conclusion slowly and deliberately, based on extensive available evidence. It's not a platitude. I genuinely do mean it, and I could write you a whole dissertation on all the reasons why.
(you know. if I had the time and an in-progress doctorate. rip.)

Ted Lasso, the character, is one of the only representations of 'sometimes getting better with your mental health issues means that you are less visibly happy, and that is okay, because you are not required to be happy in order to be loved' out there and I am really discouraged that so much of the audience is angry at that.

Dc x Dp prompt
So, I've been thinking about the "Batman adopts dead kid Danny Phantom" trope and I raise you!
Batman adopts dead kid Danny Phantom, but when the Justice League see this ghost child calling Batman "dad", they instantly think he's the 2nd Robin.
Bruce never told them about Jason coming back and becoming Red Hood, so the League thinks that Danny is the Robin who died and act accordingly (and also mildly concerned, because Bruce, this isn't healthy, he's dead)
Danny and Jason find this hilarious.
