Listened to young machetes in full for the first time in a bit. Man I'm gonna be honest that is a pretty good place to leave off on musically because I feel like anything past that they'd start killing each other with rocks or something

(transcript under the cut)
Episode 3 | Previous | Next
Here it is! As stated before, episodes 3-5 are a bit shorter than usual, but only because I'm in the process of planning a huge slate of parties, plot-changing events, etc. for summer break. No additional parts to this episode, so I'll be back with episode 5 as soon as I can.
If you haven't seen it, I made a post yesterday about my future plans for this series. Link is here!
Copperdale Records lot created by @softerhaze: link here
Episode 4: Mark Collins
Scene 1 - Newcrest
(starts with a boy walking a dog)
Meet Mark. (And Archimedes.)
Mark’s a first-semester senior at Copperdale High, scheduled to graduate early in the winter.
These are his parents, Drs. Whitney and Landon Collins. They’re both esteemed mathematics professors at the Foxbury Institute.
And Marissa, his nearsighted little sister, who’s a sophomore and currently freaking out.
Marissa (examining an acne breakout in the mirror): How am I supposed to show my face at school today? (phone rings) Ooh, Rani’s calling!
Like her parents, Marissa is a math (and science) genius. She’s also a cello prodigy and an outstanding painter. Mark never stops hearing people praise her many talents.
Scene 2 - Copperdale High
Compared to them, Mark’s more like your typical teenage boy. He’s a science whiz, sure. But he’s not Marissa trying to collect skills like infinity stones, or his parents earning PhDs by 25.
He likes to chill with his friends after school, suck face with his sweetheart before it, and just in general enjoy life as a 17-year-old boy.
Don’t believe me? Here he is at lunchtime, grabbing a bite to eat in the cafeteria.
Let’s pretend he hasn’t decided to dine with the principal today.
Ah, he’s moved to sit with Sofia Bjergsen. Finally.
[How cute! Some freshmen are getting lunch with their teacher. They look like babies!]
(cut to Copperdale students eating lunch together)
Social cliques are loosening up as we creep towards summer break. There’s camaraderie to be found in being tired of school, it seems.
Scene 3 - Dog Park, Brindleton Bay
After classes and extracurriculars, Mark and his sister like to take Archimedes to the dog park.
Here’s Marissa feeding a stray. She’d love to have another dog in their home, but her father’s sensitive constitution can barely handle the one they already have.
Let’s listen in on their conversation.
Marissa: You okay? You’ve been quiet all afternoon.
Mark (frowning): Yeah...actually, no. I’m so tired of going to that physics prep class. I think it’s time I put my foot down and tell Mom and Dad that I want to study music in college.
Marissa: You know what they’ll say about that—
Mark (rolls eyes): I know—
Marissa: “The hard sciences are the future. No one with any real life goals wastes their precious education on the humanities.”
Mark: What about you? Don’t you want to become an artist?
Marissa: Sure, maybe as a side job. But I like math, and I like what Mom and Dad do for work. I’m okay with art being just a hobby for now.
Mark (sighs): I wish I could be like you.
Scene 4 - Copperdale Records
(cut to a record store)
Music? Where did that come from?
Oh, right.
Copperdale Records, the hottest place for music lovers and alternative teens to hang out after school.
(Mark is mixing beats in a studio)
Our boy Mark sneaks here on his way home from the dog park (under the guise of studying with a friend, of course).
Fancies himself a producer, a musical jack-of-all-trades.
To be fair, he did teach himself how to mix beats, edit tracks, and play the guitar, piano, and bass. What can I say? The kid knows what he wants.
(cut to Mark strumming an electric guitar)
And as he tests out the newest six-string in the shop, I wish him the best of luck. He’s sorely going to need it.

I now present you with:
Random JJK men head cannons I made while in my feels~
Only my main 3 for now: Suguru, Gojo, Nanami.
SUGURU
Suguru is a music guy. I dont make the rules.
Like, he had an alternative phase back in the day, I lean to mall goth personally, and learned guitar he was such a music guy
Always knew where the best shows were at and was always at them. His favorite type of first date
He doesn't just listen to rock either, he listens to it all. Rock, Pop, Hip Hop, hell he'd even listen to County is the song was a hard enough bop
His love language is albums and playlist.
He has an actual record player and plays actual records. Like a hipster.
Also, the man can cook. Idk, I just get those vibes.
Like, hes naturally really good at it, but never does it cause he hates it.
Unless it's for you baby.
If his SO asked him to cook, he would do it without hesitation. Eating is important
Gets kinda distant when you ask about his technique. Hates talking about it. The most anyones ever gotten out of him is that curses taste like vomit
Which, is probably why actual foods tasting good is so important to him
Former smoker. He actually stopped once he left Jujutsu Sorcerery. He just, wasn't stressed anymore.
Still craves a cigarette whenever Mahito opens his mouth though.
His favorite color was formerly blue. These days it's more of an emerald green
Is fucking fantastic at wii sports. Especially the boxing game, that is where he shines.
GOJO
CONTROVERSIAL TAKE: this man hates drugs. Like, even weed he can't stand it. And he tried too, back in his younger days, just not his thing.
He hates when things mess with his head or his perception. It's why he's not big on drinking either. Especially if it slows his reflexes, he's not about it
Owned a bucket hat and puka shell necklace and at one point is not nearly sorry enough for it.
Hes a bitch for coffee. Don't ask me why, it's just the vibe.
Ok, let me rephrase, he likes creamer with a dash of coffee, add in lots of sugar and milk.
Hes actually a huge sweets guy. Like, to the point that he for sure has a giant candy bowl in his classroom and it's not for his students
Hes not great at communicating his feelings and needs. He has a hard time identifying then in the first place honestly
So, the clearest insight as to how he's feeling is through whatever music he's currently listening too.
Like "Hey babe..you ok?" "Oh? Yea of course doll! Why would you ask that?" "Well, we've been listening to the Johnny Cash cover of 'Hurt' on repeat and people that are ok don't typically do that"
Once it's pointed out to him, he is willing to talk about it to figure out what's going on. Can't fix a problem when you don't know what it is anyway. But, it's gotta be pointed out first.
Cats just love him. No, that's not a pun. Like, stray cats will come up to him on the street and rub up against him and love on him. Cats love him.
And while I wasn't going to make it, he has made the "what can I say? Imma pussy magnet" joke
NANAMI
This man kicks ass at mortal Kombat. Like, that's how he used to blow off steam when he worked his office job and now that's just a skill he has
Any fighting game really. That includes smash bros. Gojo onces convinced Itadori that Nanami never really played games, then challenged him to a bet
Easiest 5000 yen Gojo ever made. Until Nanami found out and demanded half
Hes secretly a huge nerd in general. Like, he has the entirety of star trek on DVD and listens to D&D podcasts
Hes a thin guy. You'd think he wouldn't eat much, right? WRONG that man's legs are hollow. He is every all you can eat buffets worst nightmare
Hes secretly punk. It's some of his favorite music, The Misfits are his favorite band.
Really, he just likes any music that could be considered aggressive. He never has nor would he ever dress like it though
Actually loves fruity drinks. Like he keeps a bottle of Pink Whitney at his apartment for mixed drinks.
Hes not picky though, he'll drink whatever you give him. Unless it tastes like pear. Not a big fan of pear
If he drives a car, it's the most worn our beater you've ever seen. He has the money to replace it, but why do that when it still runs just fine?
Probably because the passenger side door is held together with duct tape, but whatever.
His favorite color is yellow. Like, a pastel cozy yellow, and also more saturated warm yellows. He says it's a happy color and it makes him smile.
Used to have a coffee addiction, but didn't like being addicted to anything. So he's more of a tea guy now.
Can't stand messy, but also loves cleaning so it works out for him. He says cleaning is calming.
Especially when he's playing Dragula at 7am. Much to his neighbors, and sometimes his So's dismay.
Genuinely, as an autistic person, I think he's autistic. Like, the monotone voice and the "I don't give praise or ridicule, I just speak facts" gives me those vibes
Also, he just says what's on his mind and has little to no filter. Sometimes that's a good thing, more often than not it's bad.
Will just randomly crack random body parts. His knuckles, back, neck, his elbows. He snap crackles and pops.
Hes also double jointed in his shoulders, so good luck trying to pin/wrestle with him ever

RANKING GYM LEADER OUTFITS PART 2
Again, old version before remake. There's no consistent official artwork for Gen 2, so I'm going off of the sprites. Yes, they kinda stink in terms of detail - but you get what you get - Johto Gym Leaders.
Tumblr media
First here's Falkner - 8/10
God, these sprites are so crunchy. Going off of what I can make out, I think this is a pretty good outfit for a Flying-type leader. Blue theming, billowy pants, weird little hair cut, the biz.
Tumblr media
Bugsy - 6/10
This looks like a child I would help at nature camp. Not a bad thing, just an observation.
Tumblr media
Whitney - 8/10
For once being sort of bland works in someone's favor - she's literally a normal-type gym leader. I like that it doesn't look ridiculously uncomfortable.
Tumblr media
Morty - 2/10
Come on man. This looks like the worst guitar-playing guy at an open mic night. What about this says ghost to anyone? Nothing. I don't get it.
Tumblr media
Chuck - 5/10
Yeah, he sure uses fighting types. This is almost exactly the same as Bruno's design. No shirt, belt. Sigh.
Tumblr media
Jasmine - 3/10
What about this says steel type???? I mean, it's not a bad outfit, just sort of... underwhelming?
Tumblr media
Pryce - 1/10
Old Man Old Man Old Man he's so Old and Angry. What type does he used based off of this picture? Fuck if I know.
Tumblr media
Claire - 9/10
The one outfit here I like better than the remake one. Bonus points for cool swishy cape.

Hi, can I get a David bowie one please? Maybe something where the reader is also a singer? Thank you so much!
Pairing: David Bowie x Singer!Reader (reader is gender neutral)
Word Count: 1,534
Summary: Reader performs at a nightclub. They close the show with a haunting cover of “Heroes”, not knowing that the man himself is in the audience.
Warnings: Smoking
Author: Whitney
A/N: I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it! <3 Also, reminder that requests are open!
Tumblr media
Your heart pounds as you get ready to take the stage of the small club. It’s nerve wracking to take the stage even though you’ve performed here at least half a dozen times. You peak out from behind the curtain at the small crowd gathering around the stage. With all the lighting focused on the stage, and the cigarette smoke circling around the room it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly how many people are out there.
The manager ushers you out there, and you get a bit better of a look at the crowd. It’s not as busy as you’ve seen before, but that doesn’t do much to ease your nerves. You wave to the crowd, feeling a little silly when you do so. Still the crowd welcomes you warmly with a few familiar faces looking up at you. You smile as you make your way up to the microphone.
“Hello, I’m (y/n),” you introduce yourself.
You open the show with one of your original songs. You strum your guitar softly as your voice carries through the club. People listen intently, their eyes glued to you as you sing. The insecure side of you worries people are bored, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. The club that had been so loud just moments earlier, is captivated into near silence by you standing on the stage. Your voice lulling the chaos into peace. You do a couple more of your own songs before setting your guitar to the side. You make your way to the piano, taking a seat on the bench before clearing your throat.
This was the part of the performance you were the most concerned about. David Bowie was one of your favorite artists, and you’ve always considered singing one of his songs.
One night while you were at your house tinkering on your own piano, you’d inexplicably begun playing “Heroes” in a low key. You’d sang the song in a whispery tone, and the way it sounded to you was so sad. You’d felt confident that it would add something to your performance, but as you sat on the stage preparing to cover the song in the same way your confidence was faltering. You consider making a small introduction, maybe provide an explanation. But as your hands begin shaking, you realize it’s now or never.
You begin playing the familiar tune on the piano. It’s a shock to you that your voice doesn’t quiver a bit when you begin singing. Instead you’re as confident in the words as you would’ve been if you’d written them yourself. You end your performance with this song, to a surprisingly enthusiastic response. You shyly bow and thank everyone before leaving the stage.
It takes a while for you to get calmed down. You step outside the club to the small alleyway to smoke a cigarette. Still feeling buzzed from your performance, your hand shakes a bit when you lift the cigarette to your lip to take a deep drag. You  lean your head against the wall as you exhale the smoke. The street seemed to exist in a completely different world than the club. It’s quiet and dark in the alley. Only the streetlights on the blue neon sign of the club provided any kind of light, and where you stood around the corner even that was muted. You close your eyes as you feel yourself slowly begin to unwind.
“I liked your performance,” a man’s voice interrupts your silence.
You open your eyes, and pull your head forward from it’s previous resting place against the wall. In the split second it takes to do this, you’re prepared to chase off some unwanted drunkard. Instead you see a thin figure leaning against the wall opposite of you. The blue neon hitting his angular face reveals his identity to be David Bowie himself. You want to say a thousand different words of praise, but instead you simply smile in an attempt not to seem starstruck.
“Thank you very much,” you smile.
“I must say I’m particularly fond of the last song,” he smirks.
“Me too,” you agree. “It’s my favorite. Although, I was afraid I might butcher it.”
“Not at all,” he leans forward. “I’m a little envious I never thought to sing it that way.”
Your heart is racing, sending a rush of blood to your cheeks. You know in the light you probably look purple, and for some reason your brain wants to replay a children’s film in your mind at this moment.
“No need to be envious,” you tease.
He steps forward, taking the cigarette from your lips. He takes a drag from it before giving it back.
“Perhaps the next time you perform, I could join you,” he suggests.
Your eyes widen at the suggestion. All you can think to do is nod. You flick the cigarette onto the ground, and finally find your bearings again.
“I would love that,” you agree.
He chuckles as you let your admiration show for the first time. He pulls his coat closer to his thin body.
“Next time then,” he promises. “I get to choose the song though.”
“Of course,” you smile.
He starts to walk away, but then hesitates. He turns to you again with a small smile.
“Do you come to this club frequently?” you ask, hoping all of this wasn’t just empty promises.
“I do,” he nods. “Although, I hope that won’t affect your performance. I quite like listening to you sing.”
“There’s nothing that could stop me from singing,” you promise.
He smiles, “Good to hear it. So many people are quick to give up on their dreams.”
“That’s the great tragedy of life, I suppose. Probably more so than death.”
He nods thoughtfully, for a moment his eyes seem to look just past you. You don’t interrupt what seems to be a deep train of thought. Instead allowing him to pull himself back into the moment.
“There’s a little cafe down the street, the people there don’t really bother me,” he explains.
You nod, still a bit oblivious to what he was implying.
“Would you like to go with me to get some coffee or something?”
A small gasp leaves you, but then you try to regain your composure. As though you always meet famous people, then of course get invited to go somewhere with them. Just another day in your very exciting life.
“That would be nice,” you agree.
He offers you his arm politely. You try not to die as you intertwine your arm with his, and he begins leading you down the street.
“Won’t anyone miss you?” you ask as the neon lights from the club fade, and everything is bathed in streetlights. You knew he didn’t come to this club alone, why would he?
“I’m sure the fact that I’m missing will come to their attention at least once.”
You laugh, “I’m sure more than once.”
“It will be fine,” he assures you.
Your mind is swimming with questions. You look up at him. His hair is combed back rather neatly, and his mismatched eyes watch the street carefully. He looks different than you’d imagined he would. Somehow he seems incredibly alert and relaxed at the same time.
He leads you to the small corner cafe, and you take a seat at the back booth away from the window. A waitress comes by to take your orders, there’s a glint of recognition in her eyes as you both order coffee. But she doesn’t say anything. Finally seeing him fully in the light, you’re struck by how handsome he actually is.
“I like being able to move around freely,” he says unprompted. “It’s always a delight to meet people who will go along with that.”
“Everyone should be allowed to live freely,” you agree.
There’s a comfortable silence that falls between you. You steal glances at one another, smiling when one of you is caught. The waitress brings your coffees and sets them down. You add cream and sugar to yours, noticing how closely he seemed to watch you as you did so. There’s a curiosity in his eyes you didn’t expect. You bring the mug to your lips, taking a careful sip.
He’s the first to break the silence, “So, you wrote the first songs you performed?”
You nod, “I did.”
“Very good,” he compliments. You feel your cheeks blush a bit.
“Thank you,” the insanity of it all seemed to hit you for the first time.
“I own all of your albums,” you blush at the confession. “I suppose you could say I think you’re rather good as well.”
He laughs at this, “Thank you very much.”
You take another sip of your coffee. You want to ask how you ended up here in his company, his eyes seemingly locked onto you. Watching every move you make as though you’re half as interesting as him. Somehow you fear that questioning the moment will absolutely ruin it. So, you sit in the cafe sipping your coffee and allow yourself to indulge in the moment.
There’s a hope lingering in your chest that perhaps this will lead to more than just one cup of coffee.

My Top Seven Favorite Musical Moments In Shows That Aren't Musically Driven* and why (in no particular order)**
*By not musically driven I mean shows that do not have plots driven by music (i.e. Glee, Smash, etc. etc.)
**I know I said top seven, but I just mean out of the many I have seen, these seven are the ones I like the most.
Note: None of the images used are mine; they belong to various internet gods.
#1
Legacies Season 1 Episode 11: We're Gonna Need a Spotlight
Kaleb and the Vampire faction singing "Feeling Good" by Nina Simone at the Salvatore School talent show.
Tumblr media
While the entirety of the talent show was amazing (Kaylee Bryant's singing voice, Raf's slightly awkward yet still appropriately dramatic poetry), it was Kaleb and the vampires who stole the show. Chris Lee has an incredible voice and his rendition of Nina Simone's "Feeling Good" was stunning, both visually and vocally. I'm also a great lover of epic dance moves, so it was no contest.
#2
Gilmore Girls Season 7 Episode 20: Lorelai? Lorelai?
Lorelai singing "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton originally (Whitney Houston covered) at Stars Hollow karaoke to Luke, despite beginning the song as a dedication to Rory.
Tumblr media
Lorelai and Luke may be broken up, but Lorelai's beautiful (and slightly alcohol-fueled) version of Dolly Parton's kind of cheesy yet nonetheless tender "if you love someone, set them free" ballad that was later made into an iconic cover by Whitney Houston was proof that they'd never really be over. Sure, she says she's singing it to Rory, but the moment Luke walks in and they lock eyes, everyone knows. Lauren Graham also has a good voice, and the emotion that comes through is so real, a cheesy karaoke moment becomes a heartfelt cheesy karaoke moment.
#3
Everything's Gonna Be Okay Season 1 Episode 5: West African Giant Black Millipedes
Nicholas doing a drag queen routine to Thelma Houston's disco hit "Don't Leave Me This Way" for Alex and his friends.
Tumblr media
Okay, so I love this scene so much, because not only is it done to an incredibly fun song, it also showcases Nicholas doing something so utterly entertaining for Alex and a bunch of people he was nervous about meeting. The fact that just a few days before watching this episode I had watched an episode of Ru Paul's Drag Race where two queens had to lip sync for their lives to the very same song made the scene that much more enjoyable to watch. Nicholas looks amazing, his dance moves are to die for, and his lip syncing game is strong. I also appreciated the fact that when he did this scene, Josh Thomas committed to it. The scene is done in full, not going for a bit and then fading out before we get to see the end. Also, I know that Nicholas isn't technically singing, but it still totally counts.
#4
The Magicians Season 1 Episode 4: The World in the Walls
Quentin starting up a group sing-along to Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" to get Penny's attention in the mental hospital while under Julia and Marina's spell.
Tumblr media
I just started watching this show after having read the first two books, and this scene was HILARIOUS! I loved that the show used a random interaction between Quentin and Penny from a previous episode and turned it into something more because usually shows ignore one-off interactions between characters. Also, Quentin singing off-key at the top of his lungs with everyone else joining in and dancing while Penny suddenly hears it in the real world was so funny and a huge break in an otherwise extremely dramatic and rather dark episode.
#5
Skam Season 2 Episode 3: Er det noe du skjuler for oss? (Are You Hiding Someone From Us?)
Noora singing Extreme's "More Than Words" on William's guitar, initially doing so to make fun of him, but quickly turning into a super sweet and romantic moment between the two.
Tumblr media
Skam is another show I started watching recently, and Noora quickly became one of my favorite characters. Now, I'll admit, I wasn't too fond of the idea of William and Noora at first, but this scene changed my mind immediately. I'm also very into the whole "enemies to lovers" thing these two have with one another. All of the songs Noora sings in this scene are good, but "More Than Words" is the one where you really begin to see that William's feelings for Noora are not as one-sided as she says they are. Josefine Frida Petterson, who plays Noora, has an absolutely beautiful voice, and the vocalization and soft musicality throughout are stunning. This is one of my favorite scenes in this show to date, and everything about it was perfect.

New Girl Season 1 Episode 1: Pilot
Coach, Schmidt, and Nick singing "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life" by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes from Dirty Dancing to Jess, who eventually joins in, after her date stands her up.
Tumblr media
Poor Jess had just broken up with her boyfriend, moved into an apartment with three guys who have little to know emotional know-how when it comes to women, and had her first date since her breakup stand her up at a fancy restaurant. The situation was made worse by the fact that she was told to give up her table. When the boys showed up and claimed to be her boyfriends, it was sweet, but the moment they began singing "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life", they showed that they really did care about her. What makes this scene so funny is the fact that Nick (who begins it) and Coach (who joins in after Nick elbows him) don't really know the words, they're both singing different parts in different tunes at different volumes, and then Schmidt (who initially says he's not singing), comes out of nowhere belting the song with the correct words and tune. Then Jess joins in and they have a great time until the restaurant makes them leave. They head back to the apartment, watch Dirty Dancing, and show that any problem can be solved with good friends and 80s movies.

Angel Season 2 Episode 11: Redefinition
Cordelia, Wesley, and Gunn sing "We Are The Champions" by Queen at Caritas after Angel fires them.
Tumblr media
Cordelia, Wesley, and Gunn had just been fired by Angel so he could kill Darla and Drusilla without their interference and the trio was at a loss for what to do next. Angel Investigations was disbanded, and none of them had any clue what to do about it. Their solution? Terribly sing Queen's "We Are The Champions" at Lorne's bar Caritas and drown their sorrows. While an extremely short scene, Cordy, Wes, and Gunn's reaction to being fired was super relatable, and you can never go wrong with Queen. They also have three very different personalities; Cordelia is snarky, has a lot of wit, and tends to be rather superficial, but she has so much heart beneath the surface, Wesley is a stuffy English professor type, and being a former Watcher means he couldn't be hip and cool if he tried, and Gunn is a hardened vampire hunter with a strong resolution and loyal to the core, who was still relatively new to the group when Angel gave them the boot. As such, seeing them all be together with arms around shoulders singing their hearts out was immensely fun to see.
Honorable Mentions:
Legacies: Alaric singing "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" terribly off-key before Kaleb and Cleo swooped in and saved the day with their improvised song.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Giles Singing "Free Bird" while playing his guitar in his home.
How I Met Your Mother: Lily and Marshall singing "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" at karaoke, effectively making up after Marshall accepts a corporate job rather than one that fits his morals.

Writer’s Month Prompts Day 5
Day 5: Summer Vacation (KISS Kollege AU)
Moving right along to Day 5! Requested by @tanookiroxx <3
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
So maybe Paul enjoyed the summer break—give him, well, a break. He didn’t have to worry about classes, he could paint as much as he wanted, and best of all, he didn’t have to see anyone he didn’t want to see (coughMEGcough).
One of the people he did want to see was Bruce Kulick the History professor. He’d been such an amazing model for his charcoal drawing that Paul had (totally not shyly) asked him if he wanted to model for other paintings. Bruce had simply smiled, in the way that made Paul’s heart beat faster, and said yes.
That was what led him to be down at his studio off of Woodward on this fine Wednesday morning. He was setting up his art supplies and a canvas on his easel so they could get started. As usual, he had his radio on, and while usually he played 94.7 WCSX, today he decided he would play 93.9 instead.
When he switched to the different station, he found himself having switched right in the middle of a Whitney Houston song. “—wanna dance with somebody! I wanna feel the heat with somebody!”
Paul smiled to himself and went back to work, humming along under his breath. He didn’t know all the words, but he was pretty sure everybody and their mother knew the chorus to this song.
He got everything set up, and was simply waiting for Bruce to arrive. He looked over his paints thoughtfully. Did he want to do a multicolored picture, or did he want to go black, white, and grey? Then again, he’d already done a charcoal drawing, so maybe he could go with the different colors. It would be an explosion of color—yeah, that sounded good…
“Ohh, I wanna dance with somebody,” he sang under his breath as he took out the paint he would use. “I wanna feel the heat with somebody. Yeeeah, I wanna dance with somebody. With somebody who loves me.”
Bruce immediately flashed in his mind, and he smiled wider. He’d never danced with Bruce before, not even when their little friend group had gone to Common Pub or the Stray Cat. Bruce never seemed like the kind of person to get up and dance. Maybe he would to this song… He imagined dancing along to the song with Bruce, and the thought of beanpole Bruce waving his limbs around to the song made him laugh.
He began to sing louder as he straightened up his studio. “I need a man to take a chance on a love that burns hot enough to last. So when the night falls… My lonely heart calls…”
He whipped around his dusting rag and starting dancing around the room, singing his heart out to the chorus. “Ohhhh I wanna dance with somebody! I wanna feel the heat with somebody! Yeeeah, I wanna dance with somebody! With somebody who loves me!”
But really, how wonderful would it be to dance with Bruce? His… were they boyfriends? He wasn’t sure what Wayne State’s policy was about being able to date fellow faculty. They were keeping their relationship quiet, much like Gene and Vinnie, except of course they didn’t spend all of their time together screwing each other’s brains out. But anyway, dancing with Bruce; it sounded amazing. At Bleu Detroit, maybe? He liked that place. Did Bruce like going to clubs?
“Don’tcha wanna dance, say you wanna dance, don’tcha wanna dance! Don’tcha wanna dance, say you wanna dance, don’tcha wanna dance! Don’tcha wanna dance, say you wanna dance, don’tcha—”
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
Paul jumped out of his skin and nearly screeched, then whirled around to see Bruce standing in the doorway. The History professor had a wide smile on his face. “Hey,”
Paul’s face went red. “U-Uh… Hi…” He quickly hurried over to his radio and turned it off. “Did you just get here?”
“Yep.” He grinned at Paul. “You didn’t have to stop on my account. You looked like you were having fun.”
“W-Well, I… Well, c’mon, who doesn’t love that song?”
Bruce nodded in concession as he entered and closed the door behind him. “True. My brother can sing that song real well when he’s had a few and there’s a karaoke machine.”
That made Paul smile and laugh. Bob the guitar tech, drunk? Now that was something he wanted to see.
Bruce walked over to him and leaned in to kiss him on the cheek. “You’re a good singer,”
Heat rose to his face again. “Thanks… Should we get started?”
“Sure. Where should I sit?”
“Over here. It catches the light best.”
Bruce sat down in the stool Paul had set up, and as Paul was picking up his apron to tie on he suddenly said, “Hey, Paul?”
He turned around. “Yeah?”
Bruce smirked at him. “Wanna feel the heat with me sometime?”
A pink blush exploded across his face. But he quickly recollected himself and smiled back. “Name the time and place, Brucie.”

dijeron que nuestro día llegaría de repente
Leo refuses to go into their little sister’s dance studio to pick her up from her classes. He sits in his stupid car, smoke hanging douche-like from his hand out the window while he blares Motörhead and sneers at Alex to get a move along and get little Judith from her twirling session.
1493 words | Mild Language | 90s Music | Recognition Through The Other
Leo refuses to go into their little sister’s dance studio to pick her up from her classes. He sits in his stupid car, smoke hanging douche-like from his hand out the window while he blares Motörhead and sneers at Alex to get a move along and get little Judith from her twirling session. Alex is mildly offended, only because he has two older brothers and it’s not the first time he has had to suffer through that phase where they think because mom is not looking manners stop existing. Being seventeen looks like it fucking sucks, he thinks, slamming the car door to delight in the hey! he gets in response.
“It’s just a dance studio,” he mutters to himself as he opens the door and makes his way to where he knows Ages 10-12 are supposed to be finishing up already. Really, Judith is getting to an age where she could walk alone back home but mom never stopped believing on van-driving pedo child kidnappers or whatever like everyone else parents seemed to when they entered the 90s, so Alex and their siblings are expert carpoolers against their will.
The truth is, though, that Alex likes picking up Judith from her dance lessons. Usually, it’s just waving at her from the entry when Judith bolts out the studios, her friends in cow and her neat bun slowly dematerializing, and the whole experience feels more like a spy film, a treasure changing hands, secure with Eagle 2, than picking up one’s little sister. But today Alex comes into the entry and it’s deserted, and he walks in past the reception, following some sweet melody. From the door window for Room 3 he observes as the girls hold themselves still on the point of their feet, their arms rigid, their heads staring straight ahead. He too stands on his toes to see better and Judith, who knows him too well he feels like, sees him on the window and smirks which makes her lose concentration and nearly fall.
Judith's instructor, Miss Henderson, flatly stares at her as she gets back up on position and then turns, murderous eyes set on the door. Alex disappears from the window and then he realizes that the music he had thought was coming from her sister’s studio really comes from the one next door, which is half-open. It’s a piano, thin and lively. When he peers into the room a smiling someone is playing and some dancers laugh as they stretch.
“Well, aren’t you cute?” says a voice and Alex turns. In front of him, there’s the prettiest guy Alex has ever seen in his life.
“Uh,” says Alex, stupid, and then nothing else.
The door behind him opens, the pianist blinking out at them like coming out of a stupor.
“Everything okay, Daniel?” he asks the pretty guy, sparing Alex no more than a passing glance.
“Yeah!” says the pretty guy, this Daniel, and he looks like he’s going back in with the pianist but he stops before the door. “You want to come in?” he asks Alex. There’s a distracting beauty spot over his lip.
Alex looks at his sister’s studio and then back at Daniel and his beauty spot and the pianist that is scratching his bit of stubble and looks now curious but not mean. Then he takes a step back.
"I have to wait for my sister...” he says.
"Well, you can wait for her inside," smiles Daniel, waving the concern away. "We are waiting for Miss Handerson, ourselves. They won't be more than five minutes."
"You can hear me better from inside, of course," says the pianist. And, well, music is a good excuse, isn't it?
Alex scurries past them both inside, holding his breath. The other dancers look friendly and interested and Alex immediately regrets coming in.
"A stray, now?" Says one of the boys, the tallest of them all, and very handsome too. He says it to Daniel, but he comes closer to Alex and offers a hand. "What's your name?" he asks.
"Alex," mumbles Alex, his heart beating fast, as he accepts the handshake. A hand falls on his shoulder.
"So cute!" stage-whispers Daniel (some of the dancers look seconds away from pinching his cheek which Alex is resigned about). He passes an arm through Alex’s and says, "Introductions are in order!", his other hand a theatrical swoop through the air.
"Well, my name is Daniel as it has been stated before," proclaims Daniel. "And this tall drink of water is Josh," the boy that had shaken Alex's hand laughs and poses for his audience in exaggerated contrapposto as his arms come up to be admired. Alex's eyes widen.
Pointing along at three girls sitting on the floor one over the other, Daniel chirps, "Beth, Selina, and Temperance."
"You can call me Per," says the last one, scrunching her nose.
"Such a dramatic, strong name is wasted on your gentle, sweet soul, love," decries Daniel and Per rolls her eyes with affection.
"Now, those are Ignacio," curly hair, "Helen," braids, "Nico," blonde, not unlike Alex himself, "and of course, our very own orchestra man-"
"Concertist," interrupts the pianist with an arpeggio.
"Concertist," concedes Daniel with a soft smile and a cheek kiss. "Jackie!"
Jackie launches into something fast-paced and fun that wouldn't be out of place at a circus and everyone applauds raucously. Overwhelmed, Alex sits next to him on the piano and looks first at Daniel, all nimble limbs and smiles as he stretches, and when that feels like too much, at the piano where Jackie's fingers jump, not unlike dancing. Jackie looks at him quite knowingly, and the music mellows down, sweetly and comforting.
"You dance, kid?" asks Helen, who comes down to sit with the other girls by the piano.
"No," says Alex and then his mouth twists. "Not like you," he adds softer.
"Ballet is boring," says Ignacio quite decisively, and Daniel and Beth gasp faux offended. Ignacio has a silver ring hanging from his left ear lobe that has Alex, suddenly, jealous.
"It is if you're boring about it," chimes in Josh, and Alex turns to face him. He has a righteous face and mischievous eyes. "If you do everything they tell you like they tell you to."
"Oh, now you have an audience for your revolution, I think," smiles Per.
"I have a band," says Alex. Alex has had a band since last year when he had learned that Reggie, that had been in the outskirts of his life since they were kids, played bass and wasn't even bad. Well, they are missing a singer, really, and a guitar or two. They both sing, Reggie is in the church choir and everything, but Alex is shy and Reggie is scatter minded for all he does try his best, so. But it's still a band, even missing pieces and a name. "Um, we play punk, and, like, rock."
"Rad!" says Josh, looking like he means it, and then, conspiratorial, "I'm constantly surrounded by Whitney Houston fans, you have to save me, kid."
"Oh, I like Whitney," blurts Alex, condemned to become the pinkest person alive, and the others cheer as Josh laughs brightly like brass and Jackie starts playing I Will Always Love You pointedly.
"I'm going to close the piano on your hands, dude," Josh with an accusing finger. "You don't even like Whitney."
"He loves the chaos, though," says Daniel proudly. "You should break his fingers, anyway. I want an excuse to feed him soup and play nurse."
Nico fake retches and the rest roll their eyes.
"You want me in bed, you just have to follow me home, sweetheart," winks Jackie, though, which only makes Nico retch more. There's an inkling in the back of Alex's head that brings butterflies to his stomach and makes his palms sweat.
"I, I really should go," he stammers, getting up. "My sister... And my brother is waiting outside."
Daniel blinks. Alex realizes his eyes are sharper than at first glance and his heart beats really, really fast in his chest.
"Sure, kid," he says lightly. "If that's what you want."
"Thank you," says Alex, beating a hasty retreat. "It was nice meeting you."
Back in the car, Leo looks meanly bored, as he checks out some mom in hot pants that waits outside the studio.
“Judith still has a while to go,” says Alex climbing into the car. He breathes out all the air in his lungs and then turns the music louder when Lemmy Kilmister yells, Ain’t gonna give ya no moon in June. Fuck, he thinks. Fucking fuck.

Quote
I don't consider myself to be very famous. I'm recognizable in certain contexts but even that kind of recognition sometimes puts me off terribly because it's uncomfortable in a way. I want people there not to see me, but to think about the music. A lot of young people are forgetting about the most important thing, which is the music. They're thinking about their career and the character that goes with it. The clothes they believe they're meant to wear, which again is fine. I understand the importance of fashion and aesthetics within art. I like the elegance of design but it's not the substance of something, particularly if you're primarily about making music. Another piece of advice I'd give—maybe the only piece of advice is you've got to have something that you really need to say. That's why you're doing it. If you've got nothing to say then maybe become a recording engineer? Don't be a writer. I desperately want to speak French so I can read some of the great French novels in the language they were written. I wish I could read Don Quixote in Spanish. Same with Portuguese or Latin or something, except I don't have that learning ability. I wish I could direct a movie but it's not something I've ever been able to do. I don't have the story to tell yet, and I'm not going to go out and make something that's visually cool but has no story. It was always my ambition to make films when I was growing up. I thought that was much more valid. I never wanted to be an indie rock musician. I wanted to make really important films. Epics, classics, except I've never had the idea or story come to me. Just because you can be in a band, just because you can make a film, doesn't necessarily mean you should. You have to ask yourself, "Is what I'm doing needed? Is what I'm doing valid?" So people reading this might think, "Is Deerhunter valid?" To me, yes it is. To me, I'm making an album that no one else is making right now. I'm always open to any genre of music that can affect me. My most listened to artist of last year according to Spotify was Whitney Houston. I adore her. Her voice, her personality, her presence, what she brings to the songs. Anything that has life in it, and has that much inherent value, I'd fall at the feet of that artist today. People, like Whitney Houston, she gave everything to her audience, and she had a tragic ending. She never had a chance. I don't have the capacity to do that. It's not needed. The audience are happy with what I give and I'm happy with what they give in return. We have a nice arrangement and I'm very satisfied with it. I like my life as it is. I don't have anything that I'm wishful of. Everything I've ever wanted I have. That's the biggest source of depression for me in many ways. It probably sounds really shitty to someone who's in poverty but in my world I have it all. Other people want more material items but in my world it's not important. I can have that guitar if I want it. I don't want a fancy car or to live in LA or New York or Paris. I want to stay here with my dog. As far as I'm concerned there is no up, up, up. I don't want to expand. I'm just an entertainer like anyone else but I'm lucky to know my place. Not be unsure of my place and think it should be a palace. I don't want to go to parties. I want to stay at home with my dog and watch old Humphrey Bogart movies. I'm very content. I guess it comes back to the question of why has it taken four years for this record? I don't know. It's hard to go out. I sometimes force myself to. It's hard enough making the music and putting it into a document, talking about it endlessly then running it into the ground. I'd put out a new song every week if I could but I'm not sure that's the way it's done now, unless you're a pop star. My real priority is to my dog. More than my music or anything else. If you told me something was going to happen to my dog while I was on tour I'd cancel the entire tour. It's painful enough being on tour. I see Lockett looking at pictures of his kids on the bus and it's painful. When I'm lying on the bottom bunk of a bus after a show at 3 a.m. riding through the French countryside and I'm staring at pictures of my dog, it's painful. But then there is the ecstasy of the show the next night. In the future, here's hoping there'll be some kind of technology where we can see our loved ones. One of the greatest things about my life has been taking this music across the world. I love everywhere we go. It's getting there that's the misery. It's the jet lag, it's the exhaustion, it's the dehydration. It doesn't matter if you're a huge band either. I've toured with some of the biggest and I've seen it. Even in the most glamorous and decadent of situations there's a lack of health there. And there's a lack of space. Most importantly, there's also a lack of solitude. And peace. You're under fluorescent lights. I've played Madison Square Garden a couple of times and it's actually quite depressing. The backstage area is like a government office building. It's not pleasant. You'll play a small club and the backstage area is more like being at home. Sometimes it's awful but I guess what I'm saying is it doesn't matter how big you are, there's some kind of human comfort that can't be bought and brought to you everywhere. Even if you have 50 assistants, you're still sat under fluorescent lights in a dressing room designed as a locker room for a hockey team. It's not artistic or inspiring. When you look at the all time greats such as the Stones or Bob Dylan that only play arena shows, you get to a point where you're not meeting people any more because the only people around you backstage are the people you've put there. So you become more and more isolated. I don't tour arenas specifically unless I'm opening for someone, but I've seen it and it's not healthy. The greatest thing about being a young band and getting into a van is that everywhere you go, you make new friends. You meet people and get talking to them. It's not awkward or like you're alienated or different from them. Doing that you're usually in your 20s so you don't have kids at home missing you. Your home is probably some kind of squat or apartment so you don't tend to miss it as much. That's when it's easiest to be in a band. It becomes harder as you get older and you actually have a home to go back to. I can't stress how important solitude is. As I get older I require more and more solitude. I just want to be alone. I'm a committed asexual, which might be hard for people to understand, but there's nothing more amazing to me than coming home from a tour and being utterly alone except for the company of my dog. Not talking or having to give, give, give. But then if I got my wish and stayed home all the time I'd start going crazy! I want to play music to people, I want to make people happy, but the humanity of it hasn't changed. Human condition has not changed. That's when I think about Whitney dying in a bathtub alone. It leaves a sour taste for me because she finally found solitude but it came in death. People lose track of their needs. They start letting ambition replace their needs.

50 questions
1. What takes up too much of your time? Youtube, and working on projects

3. What’s the best thing that happened to you today? Someone I care about asked if they could come over tonight
4. What fictional place would you like to go to? The world of Terraria, but like only if I could go with my friends and then leave once we’re all done with it
5. Are you good at giving advice? Probably not, I frequently feel like I’m choosing the bad dialogue choice in a telltale game when trying to convey how I feel about a person’s situation and what I believe they should do
6. Do you have a mental illness? I default to saying no until proven otherwise. Part of me thinks I’m manic bipolar to some degree, and I apparently display a lot of behaviours that would indicate I have some level of autism, but I’m gonna continue saying no until I get triaged by a professional
7. Have you ever experienced sleep paralysis? Yeah, there was a shadow monster man at the foot of my bed and it was scary but not as traumatizing as I’ve heard it can be
8. What musician inspires you the most? Grant Kirkhope
9. Have you ever fallen in love? No
10. What’s your dream date? Beach, shaved ice, local coop games at home
11. What do others notice about you? My smile
12. What’s an annoying habit you have? I’m always peeling my nails. I’ve done so ever since I was a kid, and I’m pretty sure it was a nervous habit back then, but it’s become so second-nature to me that it’s just something I do now, and I can’t fathom being unable to do so
13. Do you still talk to your first love? No
14. How many exes do you have? 0
15. How many songs are in your playlist? 1118
16. What instruments can you play? I’ve taken lessons for both guitar and drums, but I hated both and never tried any instrument since

18. Where would you like to go before you die? Top of mount whitney again
19. What’s your zodiac? Scorpio
20. Do you relate to it? iirc they’re known for being chaotic neutral, so yeah
21. What is happiness to you? Receiving confirmation that my friends still like me, which is usually through the act of directly messaging me, or mentioning me in a GC or something. Also making progress/completing personal projects, and receiving validation from friends/strangers that I’m not wasting my time working on them
22. Are you going through anything right now? As a post-grad NEET, I’m very anxious over my ability to get a job doing what I like. And also I lost some really close friends recently
23. What’s the worst decision you ever made? I asked someone something personal once and they said yes, and it lead to the slowest, most agonizing burn of a close friendship I’d ever experienced. If I didn’t ask that one question, if I didn’t compound those ten syllables, if I didn’t make the choice to take three seconds and ask the question, I feel like I’d be in a tremendously different spot with my friends. Also trying to pretend to be someone else in high school to appeal to someone I had a huge crush on. Also not getting an internship in college. Also-
24. What’s your favorite store? Target
25. What’s your opinion about abortion? Pro choice

32. What word do you say the most? rad
33. What’s the oldest age you would date? 28
34. What’s the youngest you would date? 20
35. What job/career do most people say would suit you? Game developer presumably, because that’s what I spend most of my time doing
36. What’s your favorite music genre? Happy hardcore
37. If you could live in any country in the world, where would it be? Somewhere with pretty landscapes, lots of mountains
38. What is your current favorite song? Techno Kitty ft. Sara

40. What are you excited for? Friday because I’m going to a bonfire, Banjo Kazooie in smash, the prospect of one day finishing my projects, L4D3
41. Are you a better talker or listener? Talker. Being put in a dedicated listening position gives me a lot of anxiety because I’ve frequently had experiences with close friends where I didn’t commit something they said to memory, and they got mad at me later for it. I think I talk a lot more than I should in order to avoid being in a position where my friends are expecting me to commit their facts to memory, and I could potentially fail to do so and disappoint them. I still try my best if I’m but in a dedicated listening position though
42. What was the last productive thing you did? Worked on Big Bill
43. What do you want for Christmas? Things that can’t be bought in a store
44. What class do you get the best grades in? Like, objectively the art classes because they literally can’t give you anything less than a 100% as long as you exert effort in the projects, regardless of how shitty the end product is
45. On a scale of 1-10, how are you feeling right now? 8/10, very minor headache but I’ve got a full day ahead of me for working on stuff and playing local coop games with someone coming over later
46. What can you see yourself doing in ten years? Either jumping from position to position within the software development industry, barely riding off of whatever financial float I accrued from the position prior, or working as a janitor at a mall
47. When did you get your first heartbreak? Idk when my first was, but my most recent one was when I asked that personal question to a close friend and it lead to our relationship slowly burning away over the course of four months
48. What age do you want to get married? Sometime before either of my parents die
49. What career did you want to have as a child? When I was 8 I wanted to be a mechanic for some reason
50. What do you crave right now? An icee

CHARLIE
"I think that I should just cancel, it's not like I can even play," Sam stated.
He was lying on the lounge, the same place he had been all week. Not that I blamed him, he couldn't go to work and it's not like he could do much else, but he had fallen into a depressed state and that wasn't allowed to happen. Sam is always positive and happy, even if the rest of us weren't.
"Get dressed," I stated.
"Why?" he sighed.
"Because I think you need to go,"
"So I can stand there and watch everyone else play?"
"I'm pretty sure Haka wants your voice in his band, besides I think it would be good for you to be able to be a part of music while you're waiting to play,"
"His name is Leo,"
"Just get dressed, what's the worse that could happen? You decide you don't want to?" I challenged. He let out another sighed getting up.
"Fine,"
"Be quick about it, I've got dance rehearsal tonight,"
"You've had dance rehearsal every night this week," he retorted.
"Because I have a show tomorrow," I shot back.
I've also had the past two weeks off from the dance company because of the douche trio and their antics. I felt like I was behind, even if I was told I didn't have to come in ever night.
SAM
"This is where he lives?" Charlie frowned.
"It's the address he gave me," I shrugged.
"How exactly does he afford this place?"
"I'm pretty sure he and his friend own it,"
"He owns it? But he looks like a gypsy. I was expecting a bus,"
"I think his family is loaded,"
"Of course," she rolled her eyes.
She had a, not so secret, disdain for trust fund kids. Mostly because they have money they don't have to work for, but Leo was different, he was actually trying to work towards his dream, he just had the luxury of having the cushion cash flow while he did so.
Leo came through the white gate and open the larger white gate to let us up the driveway. He smiled and waited for us to get out of the car.
"How's the shoulder?" was the first thing he said.
"It's nice to see you too Haka," Charlie frowned at him disapprovingly.
"I see Thea is making sure my new nickname is catching on,"
"You are the one who performed the haka in the middle of a bar," I pointed out.
"This is true," he nodded
"So where is this band room?" Charlie asked.
"Follow me," he gestured.
We followed him back through the small white gate which led into the backyard. There was a stepping stone path that forked out leading to the house and what looked to be the garage. In this back corner of the yard was a school bus, I withheld my laugh as Charlie pointed to it giving me an 'I told you so' look.
We turned towards the garage which looked longer than it needed to be. Once we'd followed him through the side door I realised that there was a wall through the centre dividing it into two spaces. We walked through the garage section which was big enough for three cars but only sat one. He led us through another door which brought us to the band room.
"Charlie, Sam, this is Jeff and Dylan," he introduced.
THEA
"I need 5 kilos of potatoes peels, 3 kilos of carrots peeled and diced, and a kilo of onions diced," the head chef stated pointing at each of us as he listed the prep items.
"Yes chef," we stated in unison.
He left to give other students instructions. Cory started on the carrots, Benji took the onions, and I was awarded with peeling 5 kilos of potatoes. Technically I didn't even have to be here, but I like taking the extra days just in case something happens and I have to miss a day. Benji and Cory were just behind.
"So, how are talks with that guy going?" Benji wiggled his eyebrows at me.
"We are actually going out to lunch tomorrow," I nodded.
"Want us to come?" Cory offered.
"No, I'm an adult I can go on a date without back up," I frowned.
"Charlie's going with you isn't she?" Benji stated.
"Yes," I mumbled.
"You're so predictable," Cory shook his head at me.
"Whatever," I rolled my eyes.
"On another note, how are the birthday plans going?"
"Don't even go there," I sighed shaking my head.
"Not well?"
"There are so many people coming and so much food to make, I swear I'm going to spend most of the night cooking, I miss my mum," I whined.
"Are your parents coming down for it?"
"They can't get time off," I shook my head.
"What about your brother?"
"Nope," I cleared my throat.
It wasn't really unusual since they move up north I haven't seen them much, maybe once or twice a year, if I'm lucky. And never on my birthday, is usually the busiest time for them because it's so close to Christmas. But it still sucked, I miss them normally, but even more so on my birthday.
"Well we'll be there," Cory nudged my shoulder with his.
"I'm sure we can be as annoying at your brother," Benji smirked, tears starting to fall from his eyes.
"Awe, bro, are you getting emotional?" Cory teased.
"It's just so sad," he fake sobbed.
"Chef is going to tell you off if you don't stop," I shook my head.
"He's busy giving out tasks," Cory shrugged.
"Thea is right, I'm okay with you guys taking but you need to be serious, especially around knives," Chef was standing behind us arms crossed over his chest.
"Yes chef," Benji nodded.
"Told you," I mumbled.
CHARLIE
He wasn't sure, he was definitely reluctant about standing in front of a microphone stand without a guitar. He was fidgety, probably because he's not used to having his hands empty. He looked at me and seemed to calm down a bit, taking a deep breath he nodded at Haka who started to play a melody, Jeff and Dylan joined in and a few seconds later Sam started to sing.
It didn't take him long to fee his comfortable, his hands were on the microphone stand, fingers tapping along to the beat. He even smiled, this was definitely something he should be doing, not just while he's waiting for his shoulder to heal.
"So what do you think?" Haka asked the room, he was already sure he wanted Sam to join the band.
"Good," Jeff nodded, Dylan agreed. The spoke in broken English and it was honestly so cute.
"Sam?" he asked hopeful.
"It was fun," he nodded still unsure.
"So are you joining our band?"
"I have to think about it a little more," he shrugged.
"Okay," Haka nodded disappointedly.
"We have to go to the hospital for a check-up, but I'll call you when I decide," Sam stated. His appointment wasn't for another hour an a half but I didn't say anything, it was clear he wanted to leave which just confused me.
SAM
It was fun, and I enjoyed it until I realised how much I already missed playing guitar. It was like being hit by a bus, and I just wanted to leave.
"Oh, okay," Leo nodded confused.
He offered us something to eat before we left but I really just wanted to get out of here, I felt like I couldn't breathe. It took all I had to not run to the car, Charlie followed behind me with a concerned look plastered on her face.
"What's wrong?" she frowned as we pulled out of his driveway.
"Nothing," I shook my head, I felt really stupid.
"Right," she raised an eyebrow. I sighed.
"I didn't think it would be that hard to not play guitar, I felt like I was suffocating,"
"Playing guitar as always been your outlet, it's how you vent and you haven't been able to do that so you've been bottling everything. It's no wonder you felt that way," she stated.
"I guess,"
"You just need a new outlet,"
"Like what?"
"Why don't you start writing music again? Your new band is going to need original songs," she hinted.
"You think I should join?"
"Yes,"
"Because it will stop me from moping on your couch?"
"No, because you enjoyed it because it's something that I think you suit and works for you,"
"But also the couch thing," she smirked.
"So what now?"
"I don't know, your appointment isn't for another hour or so," she shrugged.
"Food?"
"I know this great cafe,"
BM
"Hey, there brother of mine," Coco walked through the door.
"How was your time down south?" I asked not looking up from my clipboard.
"12, 7, 42, 69," Jae laughed.
He had been sprouting out random numbers for the last 10 minutes because I was doing stocktake and writing up the new order. He thought it would be fun to see how many times he could make me restart counting. So far, I'd had to start again twice.
"It was fun, sorry we stayed longer than planned, you didn't need my help here did you?"
"Nope, if I opened this place on the condition of you help then I would be a little screwed what with your job involving a lot of travel,"
"Right, so how is Sam?"
"He's okay, in a bit of a self-pity state, he's been sitting on the girls' lounge for the past week. He hasn't been up for much so,"
"He was supposed to have band practice today, I'm not sure he went through," Jae shrugged before continuing with counting.
"Bro, would you shut up?" I frowned.
"Did you screw up again?" He smirked.
"Can you go and distract him or something, I need to get this done," I sighed.
"Why don't I do that? You're irritable and likely to make a mistake," she slid the clipboard towards her.
"You think you can block him out?"
"I've spent half of my life blocking him out," she commented, I frowned.
"What? He's super irritating," she shrugged.
CHARLIE
I parked the car and we walked into the cafe. Skye who was behind the counter smiled up at me she was new and really only got called into work when me or Jae couldn't come in.
"Hey, I thought you worked this morning,"
"I did, we were just in the area and thought we would stop by for a coffee," I shrugged.
"Do you want to make it?" she asked.
"Sure," I nodded as Whitney walked through the door.
"Oh thank god," she sighed when she saw me.
"Is your boss being a pain?" I raised an eyebrow.
"He was fine this morning, then we had a double booking with important meetings because he has temporary receptionists, it was a mess and he couldn't even have coffee because you finish at 12," she vented.
"Do you want me to make a few?"
"Yes," she nodded.
"I can do it," Skye smiled, I think she was trying to help.
"It's fine," I shook my head.
"But you're not supposed to be working," she frowned.
"My boss won't drink the coffee unless it's made by her," Whitney shrugged.
"Then why did you come in, know she had finished her shift?"
"Because the coffee cake you guys have he loves, so I figured if he couldn't have coffee, the cake would be a fair substitute,"
"Guess who makes the coffee cake," I smirked.
"You're like some kind of coffee wizard," she laughed.
"Not really," I shook my head.
"Is it weird that I know your work schedule?" she laughed to herself.
"I think is weird that your boss only drinks my coffee," I shrugged.
"Oh I'm so sorry, can I get you anything?" Skye asked Sam who had sat in one of the waiting chairs.
"I've got it," I shook my head.
"Oh he's your boyfriend?" she raised an eyebrow. She had flirty eyes, I didn't like it, so instead of saying no.
"Yes," I stated seriously giving her a warning look. She backed down pretty quickly.
"I didn't think you had a boyfriend," Whitney hummed.
"Now you know, how many coffees do you want?"
"Can I have 3, no wait, four,"
"It's 2 in the afternoon, what does he need with four coffees?"
"He has to stay late to get stuff done, he has plans tomorrow and can't come I to the office," she shrugged.
"It must be nice having your own business and deciding when to work or not," I commented.
"I'm pretty sure he's going on a date his friend is setting him up,"
"Maybe he'll get laid and be less high strung"
"Here's hoping," she laughed.
"How about I get you some coffee cake too?"
"I love you," she laughed.
THEA
Sam and Charlie still weren't home at 6.30 so I was guessing that Charlie had just taken him with her to dance practice. I still hadn't asked her about coming to lunch but I was pretty sure I knew how I could get her there without actually asking g. She probably wouldn't be happy about it but from the photos I've seen of Mark, she'll be fine with it after a while.
It was almost 9 when o started cooking dinner. She would have finished practice at nine and it only takes about half an hour to drive from there to here.
I decided o making fried rice because it took a while to make and also Sam loves rice so I k ow he would eat it. He's been a little off food lately which for Sam is really weird but I guess with everything he's been through lately is a little expected.
He had been staying with us since his surgery because for starters is more sanitary here, and the boys would be any help with changing Sam's dressing, they would try but they would just mess around or be grossed out by it. Also, there was no way Charlie was going to let him out of her sights for a while. The other two tried to stay here too, but she just kicked them out.
"I smell rice," Sam exhaled as he walked through the door, followed by Charlie. Volk bolted down the hallway, instead of jumping up like he normally does he nudge his head against Sam's hand like he knew Sam was injured.
"Yes you do," I nodded turning the stove off.
"Great, I'm starving," he picked up a bowl.
"How did practice go?" I asked casually, he sort of shrugged but didn't actually answer. I looked over at Charlie who just shook her head as if to tell me to let it go.
"Do you want some?" I asked her.
"Do we have seaweed?" she raised an eyebrow.
"Duh," I waved the snack packets in the air.
"Then yes," she nodded.
I waited until we were sitting in the lounge room eating before I mentioned anything. That way it came out more casual and she wouldn't think that I was up to something.
"You have your dance show tomorrow night huh?"
"Yep,"
"What time do you have to be there?"
"5, why?" She frowned.
"I was just thinking that after the past few weeks we've had we could have a bit of a girls day, we could go see Kiwoo and get out hair done, you could get your nails done, maybe a bit of shopping and some food?"
"Don't call it a girls day," she shook her head.
"Dudes day?"
"It would save me having to do my hair and makeup," she nodded.
"And if you don't want to wear your stage outfit then you can just bring it I your bag," I shrugged.
"That would mean carrying a bag. Pass. But sure," she nodded.
"So we'll leave here at about 12 tomorrow?" I suggested.
"What am I supposed to do?" Sam frowned.
"We can drop you off at the bar?" I shrugged.
"Or at Haka's," Charlie mumbled.
"You really think I should do it?" He sighed.
"Yes, I do,"
"I'll think about it," he sighed.
SAM
"Can you guys drop me off at the bar on your way?" I asked.
"Sure," Charlie walked out of her room dressed in a fishnet bodysuit under a cropped top and short that wear barely visible under the shirt she had tied around her waist. Like, Damn. I mean she is always attractive, but when she is stage ready, I mean, wow.
     "Ready to go?" Thea followed.
"You're pretty dressed up for a girls day," I commented.
"What's the point in getting your hair and makeup done just to be wearing g shabby clothes?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Point taken," I nodded.
"Let's go," She chirped.
The dropped me off, asked me the usual motherly questions, well Thea did. Charlie just told me not to do anything stupid.
BM was stocking the shelves when I walked in, he seemed a little surprised to see me.
"Hey man, how did you get here?" He frowned.
"The girls dropped me off, they're heading I to Perth for a girls day," I shrugged.
"Sure they are," he laughed nodding.
"Seriously, that's what they're doing,"
"That's what Thea told Charlie they're doing,"
"I'm confused,"
"Thea is having lunch with that guy she's been talking too and she didn't want to go along e but she figured Charlie would just say no, this a girls day," he explained.
"Won't Charlie feel a little third wheeled?"
"He is bringing a friend too, but we all know how Charlie feels about being forced into something,"
"She gone be mad," Jae walked down the stairs.
"Should we text her?"
"She won't get it, she has a dance show today," Jae stated.
Charlie generally ignored all calls and texts when she had a show, mainly so she couldn't be called into work or something. If there was something important they would have Thea's number.
"I feel bad for the guy that has to deal with her," BM smirked.
"She's not that bad," I frowned.
"Are you kidding me? Not only is she being forced into something, shes being tricked into being forced. The attitude that guy is going to get,"
"And I bet you she is in her stage outfit because she's too stubborn to carry a bag," Jae stated.
It hadn't registered in my head that she was wearing her stage outfit, which wasn't really too different from what she normally wears, but she was showing more.
"What does that have to do with anything?" I frowned.
"Nothing really," he shrugged.
"Stop stirring the pot," BM shook his head.
"What?" Jae raised an eyebrow.
"So what brings you home?" BM turned to me.
"I just thought I would come and hang,"
"Right,"
"My lyric books are here," I said as I headed upstairs.
They were in a box under my bed, I had never been so glass to have a loft style bed. I slid the box over to the sitting area, also under my bed, and sat down.
CHARLIE
"Bitch, did you get a new job?" Eddy raised an eyebrow at me when we walked in.
"What are you trying to say?" He just pulled a face.
"She has a dance show tonight," Thea stated.
"No kidding," he laughed.
"Seriously?" Thea sighed.
"What?"
"Your friend is here," she pointed at Yuri.
"Why are you surprised?" I raised an eyebrow.
Yuri was best friends with MinSung, who also happened to be dating Kiwoo. Yuri noticed us as smirked walking over. Thea let out another sigh, she still wasn't over that face that he had slept with us both.
"Hey girls," he winked.
"Hey," I nodded.
"Yuri," Thea stated before walking away, he just let out a slight laugh.
"What brings you here?" He asked.
"What do you think?
"Dance show?" He raised an eyebrow looking me up and down.
"Yeah,"
"Maybe I should come," he shrugged.
"Hey," MinSung joined us.
"Hey," I nodded.
"You kind of look like a hooker,"
"And you're dressed kind of like a dick,"
"Oh, actually he is a dick," Yuri smirked.
"Charlie," Kiwoo smiled.
"Hey,"
"You two aren't bothering my clients are you?"
"Not just dressed like one then," Minsung joked.
"Shut up," I frowned.
THEA
"Go have lunch and get out of my salon," Kiwoo ushered them out.
"See you at home babe," Minsung kissed him.
"Where is mine?" Yuri puckered.
"You already had him once. He's mine now," Kiwoo playfully glared at him.
"You got told," I smirked.
"Yuri is kind of like you, he has slept with everyone," Charlie stated.
"Hey, we are nothing alike, besides Minsung has slept with more people in this room,"
"Not true, Yuri as slept with everyone we know in here except Kiwoo," she corrected me.
"Seriously?" I frowned at Eddy.
"Bitch, don't you come for me. You've seen him," he rolled his eyes.
"Yeah," I nodded.
"So what are we doing today?"
"I want something different, I don't know what but you know me," I shrugged.
"And you?"
"Colour fix, makeup and maybe my nails,"
"Let's get started,"
