It's been a couple of days since the founders' party, Amari sat in her room drawing with headphones on, in an attempt to clear away the thoughts that currently plagued her mind. The events of last night that plagued her mind caused her to press the pencil down harder.

The curly brunette seethed with anger, not able to comprehend that Damon had been hurting and using one of her best friends like an object. She couldn't believe Stefan allowed Damon near the blonde if he was abusive. She had seen the bite marks all over Caroline's body, the evidence was there.

The lead snapped causing her to let out a sigh as she pulled her earphones out and made her way into the kitchen and pulling herself onto the counter in a squat.

"Guys!" Elena whispered yelled causing the two to look at the brunette who gestured upstairs with her hands as she exclaimed, "are you aware of what's going on upstairs?"

Amari whined in disgust knowing she was talking about Jeremy and Vicki, "I slept in Jenna's room last night. There are things people should just not hear, and the sound of my brother's skin slapping my best friend is one of them."

Jenna had an amused smirk on her face at Amari's remark, Elena rolled her eyes at Amari's joke before turning her attention to her aunt and questioned, "And you have no complaints?"

"I mean," Jenna shrugged as she shook her head and replied, "He could be craftier about it, make an effort to sneak her in and out."

"I won't be home for dinner," Jenna smiled, turning away from the girls. Elena grinned, moving to stand in front of Amari as the two exchanged a look with smirks on their lips, "So you're actually going to do it"

"You're gonna go out with Logan" Amari stated, wiggling her eyebrows causing Jenna to roll her eyes at the girls, and correcting them, " I'm gonna show up and torture him, yes."

The two girls were chuckling at the remark, Jenna sent them a look and decided to change the subject, "Have you heard from Stefan?"

The brunette let out a small sigh at the mention of her sort-of boyfriend as she poured herself a bowl of cereal and informed, "Not since he left that very vague message three days ago. 'Hi, Elena. I, um, I have something I have to do. I'll, uh, explain In a few days"

Amari chuckled, looking down at her phone and reading the text she received. She glanced up at Elena, "Haven't you called him?" "Nope, not going to."

And you're okay with everything," Jenna questioned, glancing at Amari's giggle only to see her staring at her phone. Elena scoffed as she shook her head, "I'm not ok with any of it, but I'm not gonna cry about it. I was gonna write but then I thought 'What am I gonna write?'"

"I'm not gonna be one of those pathetic girls whose world stops spinning because of some guy."

"Gee thanks," Amari sighed, hopping off the counter and running back to her room and slamming it shut. Elena frowned, shoving her bowl down and chasing after, banging on the door. "Amari, I didn't mean you."

Amari walked down the corridor of Mystic Falls High, throwing away a half-eaten granola bar. She held her book in one hand, pressed against her hip, and the other hand scratched her jaw. She remained oblivious to the attention of the teenagers, everyone's eyes on her. Amari was the kind of person people wanted to date but didn't know how to ask. If they did ask, they were rejected in the nicest way possible.

"Hey, baby" Amari smiled, stopping next to Bonnie and Elena, whose eyes were on Caroline talking with cheerleaders about a car wash fundraiser. Bonnie smiled, "Hey!"

Elena scoffed, shaking her head in disbelief as she turned to her friends, "Unbelievable, it's like nothing happened."

"She's in denial," Amari stated, Bonnie nodded her head in agreement as the three glanced at Caroline.

Stefan walked towards the three as he glanced between Amari and Elena before focusing his attention on the younger brunette. He greeted her with a smile, " Hey."

Amari scoffed, rolling her eyes and turning to Bonnie with a small smile, "I'm gonna check on Caroline, see you later."

She walked away, bumping into Stefan and almost knocking him off his feet. "Um, I have to go, too. I have somewhere else I have to be" Bonnie nodded her head as she turned around, leaving the couple on their own.

Elena sighed, watching Amari walk away to talk to Caroline. She occasionally glanced at Stefan, waiting for him to speak. He stared at her and apologized, "I'm so sorry, I haven't called."

"No worries, I'll live," Elena commented forcing a smile on her face and causing Stefan to sigh as he responded, " I was dealing with Damon" the doppelgänger raised her eyebrows as she questioned, "And did you?"

Stefan nodded his head as he stared at his sort-of girlfriend and assured her, '"Yes."

Elena couldn't help but let out a scoff of disbelief, tilting her, glancing towards Amari, and asked, "For four days?"

"You have every right to be upset with me, but can I explain it all to you, please?" Stefan remarked causing Elena to stay quiet for a moment as she hesitated before finally nodding her head and responding, "Sure. When?"

The youngest Salvatore furrowed his eyebrows slightly before he spoke up, "I gotta be home after school, but the Grill around 4 o'clock?"

Elena smiled slightly deciding to give him a chance to explain as she told him, "Okay"

"Stefan, where's Damon?" Caroline called out to the youngest Salvatore brother dragging Amari with her, "He has some serious apologizing to do."

Amari huffed at the blonde knowing why she would want to see him again after everything Damon had put her through. Stefan frowned exchanging a look with Elena before he softly told the Forbes girl, "He's gone, Caroline."

Caroline's face dropped at his words before shaking her head and curiously asking, "When's he coming back?"

"He's not coming back" Stefan stated with a shake of his head, " I'm sorry" he apologized before walking away from the three. Elena let out a sigh as she looked at her best friend with a sympathetic look on her face and assured the blonde, "This is a good thing, Caroline. He won't be able to hurt you anymore"

Caroline stayed silent for a moment before a small sigh escaped her lips as she muttered, "I know that."

Amari sent her a small smile before dragging her to class as the school bell rang. ────────────

After school ended, Elena and Amari both entered the Mystic Grill as the younger girl dragged Amari with her. She didn't want to be alone, just in case, Stefan doesn't show.

Amari rolled her eyes, annoyed at her friend. She was supposed to go help Caroline with the fundraising car wash, but Elena didn't give her any choice. A small grin appeared on the oldest girl's lips as she caught sight of Matt by the pool table, "Hey Tweedledum"

She and Elena stopped beside the blonde, he smiles at the two and responded with a small 'Hi', Elena smiled and glanced around the grill, "Um, have you seen Stefan at all?"

"Nope," Matt shook his head in response, "but if you guys want to kill some time, you can rack."

Elena let out a chuckle tilting her head to the side causing Matt to send them both a look as he commented, "We haven't played in forever, I'll let you break."

Amari grinned as she took the pool stick from Matt and warned, "I won't go easy on you."

"Don't expect anything less, Mari" Matt teased with a smirk on his lips, Elena let out a laugh glancing between her best friend and her ex-boyfriend as she watched them start playing pool.

They've been playing for quite a while when Amari suddenly brought up what happened this morning between Vicki and Jeremy, "I had to sleep with Jenna, I'll never be able to erase the sounds from my mind."

Matt couldn't help but let out a chuckle at them, Elena had a look of distaste on her face, "Vicki was all nonchalant like it's no big deal they're hooking up."

"I'm not gonna lie, your brother and my sister, that's weird" Matt admitted with a shake of his head. Elena and Amari send him knowing looks making Matt let a small smile appear on his lips.

Elena let out a sigh as her phone buzzed causing Matt to glance at her with a soft look as he questioned, " How late is he?"

Amari hummed as she sighed out, "Hitting the hour mark."

"Nothing's wrong, though. Which means I'm not talking boy problems with you" Elena remarked in discomfort. It was weird talking about Stefan to her ex-boyfriend, who isn't over her yet.

Matt smiled in amusement at the brunette as he sarcastically stated, " Good. I mean, it's not like we were ever best friends or anything."

Amari raised her eyebrows sending a sister a look causing her to sigh in defeat as she muttered, " Okay, what do you think of Stefan? Is he a good guy?"

"Why? What's he done?" Matt questioned looking between Elena and Amari in concern only for Elena to shake her head as she told him.

"No, he's just secretive. Like there's something he doesn't want me to know, which makes me wanna know."

Matt snorted in amusement glancing between the girls and teasingly said, "Like he's a serial killer and he keeps a clown suit in his trunk?"

"No," Amari wheezed, playfully shoving him away, "but what do we know about him, really?"

"He's great at football, a little bit of a loner, and as much as I hate saying it, he might be a nice guy." The Donovan boy admitted causing Elena to let out a sigh as she glanced between the two and asked, "Think I'm paranoid?"

Amari frowned as told her, "I think you should talk to him about it, honey." Matt nodded in agreement when suddenly, "Talk to who?"

Stefan appeared behind them causing all three of them to snap their heads towards him, Amari even letting out a shout, "I'm so sorry, I'm late."

"What happened?" Elena curiously questioned causing Stefan to tilt his head to the side as he explained, "I got held up"

"No shit," Amari deadpanned, exchanging a look with Elena before tilting her head at Stefan, "Is everything okay?"

"There's this thing with my uncle" Stefan informed causing Elena to let out a scoff as she snapped, "You couldn't call, send a text? Tell me you're gonna be an hour late."

Matt and Amari shared uncomfortable glances, the Donovan boy clearing his throat as she spoke up, "Well, he's here now so I'm gonna go."

Amari sent a reassuring smile to Elena before waving goodbye to Matt and quickly leaving the grill not wanting to get in the middle of whatever going on between the couple. ────────────

The following day, after school, Amari and Elena stand with Caroline in the parking lot listening to the blonde cheerleader talk about the rules for the fundraiser, "No friend discounts, no freebies, no pay-you-laters. We are not running a charity here"

Amari nods her head in fake seriousness and shouts, "Ma'am, no, ma'am!" Elena and Caroline giggled when Stefan suddenly appeared, "Hi," he greeted, smiling at the three girls.

"Hey," Elena replied with a smile turning around to face her boyfriend while Amari and Caroline exchange a disbelief look. The blonde girl crossed her arms over her chest with a scoff and resorted, " Um, the event is called sexy studs, you know?"

Amari nodded her head in agreement sending the couple a pointed look before being dragged away by Caroline as she strutted over towards the other cheerleaders. Stefan let out a chuckle as he raised his eyebrows at Elena and asked, "Did we just get scolded?"

"And judged, yeah," Elena added in with a giggle shaking her head at her friends' antics, "Those two together, are unstoppable."

Stefan laughed as he turned around to glance at Amari. The tall brunette had a smile on her face, chatting with some of the cheerleaders, and holding one in her lap. The Salvatore couldn't but smile in awe when he looked at her. She was going to be the death of him.

Amari made her way over to Bonnie who was washing a car with Matt. "Amari," The shorter dark-skinned girl whined, "you look so sexy." Bonnie teased, an amused look on her face.

"Yeah, yeah, thank Caroline. She came over last night and picked out my outfit, told me no friend of hers was gonna show up looking like a hobbit." Amari chuckled causing Bonnie to laugh as the two turned their attention to Matt who was eyeing Elena and Stefan who were kissing.

Bonnie held a sympathetic look on her face as Amari let out a scoff and told him, "None of that creepy ex-stalker shit."

Matt raised his eyebrows and told the girls, "I'm just observing"

"Sure you were" Bonnie teasingly commented with a nod when a red car pulled up causing her to turn around and call out.

" Tiki, this one's yours" the cheerleader groaned looking at the car unimpressed and broadly asked, "Why do I always get the homely ones?"

Amari's eyes widened as Tiki turned her attention to the boy and told him, "Just to be clear, your car's a POS. I mean, we can wash it, but it's still a POS"

"Why you gotta be so mean," Amari scoffed as she folded her arms across her chest.

"No, mean is uglying up the road with this piece of crap," Tiki responded bending down and reaching into the bucket of soapy water not noticing the glares she was receiving from Bonnie when suddenly the bucket of water exploded and soaked Tiki from head to toe.

Amari wheezed as she watched Tiki freak out while Bonnie's eyes widened in shock glancing at her friend. Matt rushed over to help Tiki as he handed her a towel and teasingly said, "Wet and Wild, Tik."

Bonnie smiled at Amari, giggling when she kissed her cheek. She watched her friend walk towards Stefan. Amari had a mischievous smile on her face as she skipped behind Stefan who was cleaning a car.

Quietly but quickly, she picked up the hose, turned it on, and sprayed him with it laughing loudly as he held his hands out trying to get away from the Taylor-Gilbert.

"You're dead!" Stefan yelled with a smile on his face snatching the hose from her and spraying her causing her to squeal loudly as she ran around the car only for him to grab her causing her to laugh. She huffed, rubbing at her eye, "Oh my god!"

"What," Stefan frowned, his hands still wrapped around her waist. She turns out of his arms and squats to search the ground. "I lost my contact lenses."

Stefan squats with her, catching his breath while searching for the lenses. He pauses, he's never seen lenses in her eyes. "Since when do you wear conta-"

"What are you two doing?!" Caroline seethed, annoyance on her face as she narrowed her eyes at the two and snapped, "This is a fundraiser for god sake, stop messing around!"

The blonde sent a look at them before stomping away causing Stefan and Amari to glance at one another before laughing loudly.

They grin at each other, only for their smiles to slowly fade from their faces seeing how close the two of them were to one another.

After calming down, the two worked on the car together when Amari's eyes landed on the youngest Salvatore ring, she warned him, "You're getting soap in that."

"Oh, it's fine" Stefan assured brushing off her warning as she made her way towards him grabbing his hand as she took a closer look at his ring, "Damon has one too, is there a story behind it?" She asked, still picking at the ring and playing with his fingers.

Stefan nodded his head as he glanced at the ring before looking up at Amari and informed, "It's the family crest from the Italian Renaissance."

Her eyes widened slightly in surprise and resorted, "The stone called lapis lazuli, right?"

"Why am I not surprised how you know this?" Stefan jokingly asked in awe and amazement at the curly brunette, she was incredibly smart and many doubted her intelligence. She shrugged her shoulders, before turning to grab her bag, "You should really take it off, I can put it in my bag" she suggested with a small smile.

Stefan immediately shook his head in response and assured her, "No, it's fine, really, thanks though."

Amari pulled a weird face as she stared at Stefan before grabbing his hand and snatching the ring off. Keeping her fingers laced with his she smiles at the noise of shock and complaint.

"It's ok, really." Before he could question her, Elena called out her name. She turned seeing Elena gesturing for her to help her at the stand. Amari dropped his hand, ignoring the hiss from Stefan and blindly slipping the ring back on his finger. She excused herself from Stefan as she made her way over towards Elena, passing Caroline who was heading towards the school for more towels.

The tall brunette took a seat next to her friend who was speaking to an elderly man, "That'll be $20."

The man handed over the money, a frown appeared on Elena's face as he seemed familiar. She gasped with a look of recognition on her face and said, "I saw you last night. You were talking to a friend of mine, at the grill."

"Well, I thought it was somebody I knew" the man mumbled in confusion, Amari frowned as she glanced between the two as Elena spoke up, "Stefan Salvatore."

"Nah, it can't be," The man let out a scoff of disbelief shaking his head as he exclaimed, "It's just my mind playing tricks on me."

Amari turned towards the man letting out a small sigh as she questioned, "Where do you think you've seen him?"

"When I first moved here, I stayed at the Salvatore boarding house. Stefan was just passing through to visit his uncle." The man began to explain as he stared at the two girls, "I mean, none of us knew he was even there until the attack."

Elena and Amari both furrowed their brows more confused than they already were as the younger brunette questioned, "Attack?" The man hummed glancing between the two girls and explained, "His uncle got killed, mauled by an animal in the woods."

Amari let out a small scoff as Elena asked, "His uncle Zach?" The man immediately shook his head and responded, " No, Joseph."

"I'm sorry, sir, I don't think we're familiar with the story" Elena stated as she stared at the man hoping to get more information from him causing the man to chuckle in amusement as he told them, "Oh, how could you? I mean, this happened years ago."

Amari frowned, about to ask him another question when Tiki suddenly appeared out of nowhere and said, " Grandpa, you gotta go, mom wants you home, okay?"

The man nodded his head turning to leave as Tiki turned to the girls, her attention drawn to Amari "He wasn't bugging you, was he? He's a little Alzheimer.'

"No, he was sweet" Amari answered as she stood up pulling Elena with her as they rushed to catch up with the elder man, "I'm sorry, are you sure that the man that you knew, his name was Stefan Salvatore?"

The man nodded his head without hesitation causing the twins to share a nervous look, "I remember his ring and his brother" he trailed off causing Elena's eyes to widen as she added in, " Damon?"

"Yeah, Stefan and Damon Salvatore," the man informed as Amari tilted her head to the side as she curiously asked, "When was this?" The man went silent for a moment trying to think back before letting out a sigh and saying, "it was early June 1953."

I have an idea for a story.And I had to get it down and I decided to post it supposed to hear.

I'm not sure if it's good because it's vry late and i'm my worst critic.

Tl DR woman who uses herself as live bait to catch and kill anyone who would target what seemed like as defenseless woman. The most common of her targets are rapists. She does this so she knows for certain that they are bad and that the rumors aren't just rumors so no innocent person gets murdered, It was self defense after all.

CHARACTERS:

Jaylen 'Jay' Jones (M/F)

A veterinarian-in-training and member of the town's Search & Rescue team who has seen Easthaven's horrors firsthand. A kindhearted but wary person who cares more about keeping people safe than they do about solving the town's mysteries. They're tired of losing people.

Yasmin Bakir-King (F)

The local librarian, a fiercely clever widow with very little patience for nonsense. Very outgoing, she's one of the most well-known figures in town. She starts the story unaware of Easthaven's dangers but very quickly gets thrust into the middle of the town's latest mystery.

Amir/Amara "Croft" (M/F)

A reclusive, ill-tempered horror author who just so happens to be the town's latest newcomer…until you show up. Croft came to town with their share of secrets, and there's nothing in the world they want more than to escape Easthaven.

Beck Dawn (genderfluid)

Fun-loving and reckless, Beck is an adrenaline junkie who can't seem to stay out of danger…despite being completely unaware of the town's secrets. A magnet for trouble, it's no surprise Beck lands right in the middle of Easthaven's latest mystery.

Ravi Singh (M)

Easthaven's local mortician. Ravi is easygoing and quick to laugh; though sometimes his humor leans towards the macabre. But his easy smiles don't cover up his almost chilling comfort with the Fog; nor do they get rid of the pile of skeletons in his closet.

Perri Loveless (M/F/NB)

Runs one of Easthaven's three radio stations. In the day they play music, and at night they host a supernatural-themed call in radio show, The Lonely Shore. Perri is an enthusiastic (if a bit awkward) person whose theories tend towards the unbelievable. It's unfortunate that, despite all of their theories, Perri has no idea what's actually going on in Easthaven.

And…

"Willow" (M/F/NB)

Your little sibling. Flighty, impulsive, and outgoing; their fascination with the occult is what lands you in Easthaven. Your relationship can range from best friends to sworn enemies. Will they be able to save you from the mess they've made?

Scooter Legacy 2020 - generations 1-9

ya know, I was gonna make individual posts about the old generations of this save, since they're coming here from their old home on dreamwidth, but I'm really lazy so we'll just go with the one. a primer post. why not.

for a bit of background, I started this save in the middle of the start of the pandemic, right after completing another legacy, and I blasted through this thing in like, 2 years? I had never felt so fuckin productive. let’s ignore the fact that stopped playing for 1.25 years after generation 8 though. okay.

to the shock of nobody, each colour-coded generation had some story that eventually just devolved into pure gameplay. listen when i tell you i'm a one trick fuckin pony, i mean it. here's what happened:

Generation 1: Percy Scooter and Sebastian Park. my founders. Percy was the sheltered only child of a rich old Chinese woman who hired Sebastian to be her butler and personal service worker. awkward enemies to lovers plot ensues. they had 2 kids: Ollie (who died as a child) and Josie.

fun fact: I was looking at my timeline and it makes perfect sense that Percy's mother, Francie Chen, would've been the younger sister of Chen Ruiyang (Lucky Legacy). they even had the same last name. so I made that canon. duh.

Generation 2: Josie Scooter and Matangi Silva. childhood friends. Mat left town to become a vet, and Josie tracked him down to continue their fledgling romance they had as teenagers. they also had a fuck ton of animals, one of which was the iconic Mayor Whiskers. they had 1 kid: Randy.

Generation 3: Randy Scooter and Collin Pix. Randy, Collin and Ripp Grunt from TS2 were roommates at a college that psychologically broke down students before selling them to aliens for Nefarious purposes. it was kind of a lot. they ran away to Sulani and had 3 kids: Willow, Xander and Landon.

Generation 4: Landon Scooter and Toro Katalunan. childhood friends that reunited as adults that tackled off the grid living together. their friendship and eventual romance persisted through awkward misunderstandings and island ghosts. they had two children: Kai and Sully.

Generation 5: Sully Scooter and Ori Delgado. Ori guided Sully through the jungle in the search of a cure for the genetic condition they were born with (I also brought this up during my flop reclaimed roots legacy). kissing ensued. they had three children: Luca, Brianna, and Damián.

side note: I also started a side story about the Strangerville mystery that coincides with this generation. this family went on to spawn Dakota Dinh, co-founder of the Lucky Legacy. it's all circular y'know?

Generation 6: Damián Scooter and Hari Rotan. I fucking hated this generation because it was Eco Lifestyle. I don't remember the story and I don't want to. they had two kids: Laila and Yasmin.

Generation 7: Laila Scooter and Kawahara Koichi. Laila, a giant fucking twat, goes to university and makes enemies with everyone except the anti-social weirdo that loves robotics. then they terrorised Evergreen Harbour together. they had one child: Xavier, who they sorta neglected ngl lmfao

Generation 8: Xavier Scooter and Fayrouz al-Dimashqi. my FAVOURITE! generation. Xavier, a traumatised individual, moves to San My and has his icy heart opened up by the warm and welcoming Fayrouz. unfortunately, he died before his time, leaving Fayrouz a widow. they had one child: Kaleb.

Generation 9: Kaleb Scooter and Natasha Deleon. Kaleb and his gf Jaesha, family vloggers, are pressured into a wedding for their viewers, which is being planned by Natasha, Kaleb's childhood friend. they run away together from Kaleb's livestreamed wedding. they had three kids: Aaron, Evan, and Naomi.

which leads us to where we are today, with Naomi and Taryn forming Generation 10, and Dexter about to launch Generation 11. let's see where this goes next!

Current Summary

Living in the biggest house in the Sage Estates neighbourhood of Willow Creek is the merged New Goth family. The house has been in James' family for generations and he lived there with his wife until he met Alexander. After falling in love and proposing he decided to tell his wife he was gay. She died of cardiac explosion.

The now married couple live awash in luxury. Alexander may be a black widow but he's enjoying his time with James. James knows his money was the first thing Alexander saw and he doesn't care because he's still landed a young husband. Milton, Alexander's younger brother lives with them. After their mother disappeared and their father died he was temporarily in the custody of Dina and Nina, but negligence allowed Alexander to get his brother back. Recovering the family fortune however will be a much harder task.

James' family has been in Sim America for so they don't know where they came from before. Alexander and Milton both have the same parents. Mortimer had Greek heritage while Bella has heritage from around the Mediterranean. So their maternal grandmother was from Cyprus and their maternal grandfather was from Morrocco. This is probably not lore accurate but it's my version.

It certainly looks that way!!

The rest of this answer isn't in direct reply to that ask, but this is a great opportunity for me to bring up something lots of people don't know about comics!! So keep reading if you wanna know a little bit about how things work behind the scenes, and ignore the rest of this if you're only here to find out if that's AIM on the White Widow cover we revealed yesterday.

Okay, so, something folks might not know: As a comic creator and author, I don't get control over my covers! I really don't get input on them at all, even on creator-owned stuff like Eat the Rich and Know Your Station. Even more than that: Covers are often being made around the same time as I'm working on the script, so frequently, what shows up on the cover reflects the overall idea of the comic rather than the specific content.

This is not a bad thing!! First of all, I should never have any say over what a visual artist does because they know a billion times more than I do about their craft. Second of all, this boundary is a necessary timing thing that leaves the cover artist more time to do their job. Covers tend to focus on different types of detail than interior art - which makes sense, because a cover gets a larger amount of area to work in, and the function of a cover is different from the function of interior art. Interiors have to communicate narrative efficiently, working with letters (that's the words in boxes and bubbles) and colors (that's the colors and shadows and lighting) to communicate a story to the reader. Interiors also have to lead the reader's eye from place to place in a very specific way, to support the flow of the story and the movement of the panels and characters. Meanwhile a cover is a single image that stands on its own, drawing the eye of a reader in a comic shop or browsing online, and serving to represent the brand. The image serves a different function, and the artist can highlight their own style and interests, packing in tons of detail. All this takes time -- interiors and covers both! -- but covers can happen sooner than interiors, because the artist can get started based on one image or an overall idea, rather than needing the script to work from.

With IP work (that's Intellectual Property, aka ideas someone else came up with and owns the rights to), covers can get started before I've even finished outlining, because we already know who the characters are and what their overall vibe is. With Buffy the Vampire Slayer, we already know who the main cast is going to be: Buffy, Willow, Xander, Giles, Spike, Faith. (I'm sad that we didn't get a Baby Crab cover, but who knows, maybe someday we'll get an omnibus of The Baby Crab Story.) Fans of that IP can see a cover with a familiar character on it and know what they're getting into, even if they don't know from the cover exactly what's going to be happening inside. The same was true when I worked on Steven Universe comics: the cover didn't reflect the story inside, so much as it reflected the overall universe and characters, which is all readers of that series need to know they're interested in what's inside.

I'm sharing all this first of all because I think it's neat! When I was starting out as a writer, I thought authors had control over every piece of their book. The truth is, we don't decide most things! People with more expertise make choices about our book covers, synopses, jacket copy, bios, what blurbs get used... everything but the words on the pages. The people who make those choices deserve credit for their work! Plus, I think it's fun and interesting to learn this stuff and I figured you might like knowing it, too!

The second reason I'm sharing this is because I've had a couple of people ask me questions about this gorgeous David Marquez cover for issue 1 of White Widow. Who is she fighting? Will they be in the final story? Does this mean she's not getting a new costume?? I won't give anything away (although Alessandro Miracolo has been dropping some truly phenomenal art in my inbox :3), but I will say that when it comes to comics -- especially when you're reading IP -- you truly can't judge a book by its cover. The outside is gorgeous and I'm so thankful to have it representing the story I'm working on, but the cover art and the interior art are more like close coworkers than sisters. They didn't grow up together and they don't share as much DNA as you might think -- but they get along great, they work really well together, and just like a couple of similarly-named trained assassins I know, they both deserve admiration on their own terms. :)

Hi. This ask is not a WCIF ask but where do you begin when planning a save file? Your thought process. Does it start with a mood board for example?

Honestly when starting my save file the first objective was replacing every lot. And by every lot, I mean every lot. I originally replaced every existing lot with a revamped one or the same type of lot just completely different style. But from there, that's when I made my own customizations.

Like Willow Creek for example is based off French Quarter/New Orleans. With the Parisian/French twist already on the world, I made it entirely Paris inspired. So with that knowledge, I usually pick a theme for every world I work on.

Willow Creek for me is done for the most part as I made it a family based world with newly starting families and old, existing ones. Definitely San Sequoia-esque. But now my main focus is Sulani.

With Sulani, I'm definitely going Miami vibes but on the more beachy side rather city. I want to keep the builds modern, but with the Miami outdoorsy vibe. And if you know Miami, you know it is a HUGE party/singles hangout. So, with that I made most "families" in Sulani single and ready to mingle. It's definitely more young populated than anything.

But with every world, I base a single sim I fell in love with around it. Willow Creek was based around my sim Eloise, a young married woman ready to start a family. Sulani is based around Feyre, a widow wanted to party, relax, and discover herself again. I guess making up stories is a huge part of my development process.

I hope this somewhat helps, and I'm sorry if I rambled a bit, I just loved the question and wanted to give as much information as I could x

Predictions, Hopes, and Headcannons for Watching and Dreaming

Flashbacks!!!

Orgins of both The Collector and the Titans. I would love to know more about both of their species and about King's father

Caleb Wittebane AND Evelyn Clawthorne. I need to know what these two sound like. Even if its just for a second. Give me more reasons to feel sad that Caleb is gone, leaving Evelyn a widow and single parent.

Manny Noceda. Not sure how that would be integrated into the narrative. Maybe and unconcious Luz getting advice/motivation from her Papi?

Belos. Im a lover of angst, so I would love to see the entire process of him deciding he needed to kill Caleb.

Callback(s) to A Lying Witch and a Warden

"Do not underestimate me ______. For I am Luz Noceda, _______ ...Now eat this sucka!" Luz delivering the final blow.

"And that's the end!" I could totally see the series ending with Luz retelling this entire story to her children. To witchlings, human children, etc. I think it would be cute!

Awesome animation!!

There are only two things I can think of that would get the majority of the animation budget.

A fight scene.

Luz reuniting with King and Eda. I will cry many, many tears.

Raine's possession

As I stated in a previous post, Eda is now the spitting image of Evelyn. I wouldn't be surprised is Belos tries to hurt her. I would like to think they would stop him before he is able to but idk...

I also like to think they'll prevent Belos from actually harming Eda, the kids, etc.

They'll be 'unpossessed' with the help of the Collector

However, I think the main people Belos will be aiming to hurt would be Luz, Eda, or Hunter. Yet, he might also hurt King, Willow, Amity, Gus, and/or Camila to hurt them.

I don't think Raine will walk out of this without a few scars. Specifically on their ear and cheek

Lumity

I NEED an "I love you." from Luz. Amity has been the one to initiate everything in their relationship. She asked Luz out, she always gives initiates physical affection, etc. I would love for Luz to initiate this one.

Im sure there will be parallels of this entire scene alone, but I'll be awaiting the angst that is to come.

Future Lumity! I need to see these two older. Even as adults maybe. I live for this relationship due to it being such a revolutionary thing. A healthy, happy sapphic couple. Maybe they both subtlely got rings on their finger 👀

Huntlow

I dont think the plotline of Hunter being a grimwalker was resolved. I think Willow will pull him aside and talk to him about it. Saying what he is changes nothing about how she feels about him.

And then he'll say something about loving the person she is. How grateful he is for her, etc.

Reunions!

Luz, King, and Eda. I'll cry. Especially if it's something like this:

Gus being an ambassador* of the human realm. *: wreaking havoc. Occasionally accompanied by Luz, Willow, and/or Hunter. I could also see him as an Illusionist instructor.

Willow being a coach for grugby at Hexside. Helping to lift up young witches confidence and self-esteem.

Amity not working for the family business at all. Maybe a teacher or as a librarian.

Raeda being old gays. I will simply NOT accept either of them dying. That's a hate crime.

"Look at you, honey, getting all prettified for your date," Amari teased, and though Elena wasn't looking at her she knew there was a smirk on her face. She, Elena, and Bonnie were at her house getting ready for tonight's founders' party at the Lockwood's Mansion.

Elena rolled her eyes, smiling nonetheless as Bonnie smiled brightly looking between her friends, "You two seem happy-ish."

"I'm high," Amari shrugged, ignoring the glare Elena sent her. Taking a seat next to Amari, Elena smiles in reassurance before turning to Bonnie, "We're getting there, tonight's gonna be a good night, but don't let that stop you from telling us whatever you wanted."

Bonnie hesitated, staying silent for a moment glancing between her friends before a small sigh escaped her lips, "How bout I tell you in the morning? I don't want to ruin the night"

"No, speak," Amari demanded, narrowing her eyes with an expectant look on her face. Bonnie sighed in defeat glancing between the girls and exclaimed, " Okay, but it has to go in the vault. Caroline will kill me if it gets back to Damon she squealed."

Amari and Elena both share a look before looking back at Bonnie nodding their heads in agreement. Bonnie sighed as she informed, " Apparently, Stefan had a very interesting back story. You know what happened with his ex-girlfriend Katherine?"

"We know they both dated her and that's why they have issues," Elena replied crossing her arms over her chest, Amari nodded her head in agreement. She heard the same thing from Stefan a couple of days ago.

Bonnie shook her head and explained, " Yeah, only she chose Damon and that drove Stefan mad, so, he did horrible things to try and break them up. He manipulated Katherine, he filled her head with all these lies until it worked and she turned against Damon."

"That sounds like one side of the story, Damon's." Amari scoffed, shaking her head in disbelief. She knew Stefan, that isn't something he'd do. Elena shifted in her seat uncomfortably, even though Stefan wasn't like that there was also a chance that Damon was telling the truth as the two didn't know each other that well.

" I just wanted you to know" Bonnie quickly said holding her hands up in mock surrender causing Elena to groan in frustration. Amari sighed, playing with her fingers, and said, "Doesn't matter, his past relationships are none of my business"

Bonnie hummed rolling her eyes and turning back to paint her nails as she sarcastically added in, "Unless he's a calculating, manipulative liar. That is your business"

Elena narrowed her eyes at her best friend and sternly told her, "Stefan is none of those things."

"Yeah?" Bonnie asked with a disbelief look on her face raising her eyebrows at the brunette, " How do you know?"

"It just doesn't sound like Stefan," Amari huffed, glancing around in thought. "He's compassionate, kind, loyal. He doesn't sound anything like the guy Damon is trying to make him out to be."

Elena nodded her head in agreement, they both didn't believe anything the eldest Salvatore said. They knew he wanted to get under his skin, to cause problems.

A few minutes later, Amari was curling Bonnie's hair while Elena was fixing her makeup, and a comfortable silence set. Elena flinched, messing up her lip gloss, she reached for her phone. "Hello, Mrs. Lockwood."

"Hi, Mrs. Mayor," Amari screeched, making Bonnie hold in a laugh with Elena shaking her head and walking out the bathroom.

After a moment, Elena charged through the bathroom and opened the other door leading to Jeremy's room. Elena's jaw clenched, snatching the headphones off her brother's head. "The pocket watch, where is it?"

"What watch?" Jeremy asked glaring at his sister, she stood in front of him with her eyebrows raised and a determined look on her face as she replied, "The one you stole from mom's box. Mrs. Lockwood just called me freaking out. It was on the list, Jeremy, she can't find it and thinks she lost it."

Amari huffed as she slammed her forehead against the doorframe, her arms dangling loosely in front of her. Jeremy shrugged his shoulders carelessly and said, " Maybe she did, maybe Tyler took it"

"Don't play that card, you took it!" Elena exclaimed throwing her arms in the air in disbelief and narrowing her eyes at her brother, "If I go online, am I gonna find it on eBay? Is that how you pay for your pot?"

Amari yanked Elena back by her shoulder, sending a warning glare to her, and called out. "Back off!"

Elena scoffed before turning to face Jeremy who stood up angrily as he pulled the pocket watch from his pocket and growled, " Screw you! I would never sell this, okay?"

"Then why would you take it?" Elena curiously asked, taking the watch in her hands. Amari sighed knowing exactly why he took the pocket watch in the first place. "Because it's supposed to be his," She explained, voice barely above a whisper, "Your dad said it goes to the firstborn son, his father gave it to him."

Elena's eyes widened in realization turning to look at Jeremy and mumbled, "and he was going to give it to you."

Sighing at the nod from Jeremy, Elena tilted her head at him, "It's still yours ok? Mom promised her, what do you want me to do?"

"Just take it and get out" Jeremy snapped putting his headphones back on causing Elena to look down at the watch with a frown on her face. Before she could walk out of the room, Amari snatched it out of her hand as she chuckled, " I think Mrs. Lockwood will be just fine without it. We'll just make an excuse or something."

Elena nodded her head watching her friend place it on the computer desk before walking out of the room with Elena.

Later on that evening, the Lockwood mansion was packed with the people of mystic falls greeting Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood before heading inside the mansion. Amari had her arm looped with Jenna's wearing a black suit as they walked up the stairs. The curly brunette sighed as she glanced at her aunt and quietly asked, "You think Lena will notice if we ditch?"

"Too late," Jenna snorted in amusement shaking her head at the girl's antics. The strawberry blonde gestured towards Carol Lockwood who was making her way over towards the two with a beaming smile on her face, her husband following after her.

"Amari, you look wonderful," Carol greeted the dark-skinned girl with a smile on her face as she pressed a kiss to her cheek causing Amari to send her a small smile and respond, "Thank you"

Richard smiled at the two girls before a frown appeared on his face, " Tyler's here with Vicki, but he told us he'd be coming with you."

Amari awkwardly shared a look with Jenna before turning to face the older couple and explaining, "We aren't on speaking terms."

"Well, thank you for coming." Mayor Lockwood invited the two girls in who smiled in response making their way into the mansion as Jenna nudged the girl beside her and muttered, "Well that was awkward"

Jenna and Amari wondered around looking at the relics from the founders of the town. The curly brunette stood staring at her adoptive parents' wedding rings in a daze when Jenna grabbed her hand squeezing it in reassurance, "They would be so proud of you, Amari."

"You think so? I can't even help look after my siblings, let alone myself. Miranda would know what to do," Amari rambled, spacing out for a minute before turning to Jenna with a smile. "I'm gonna look for Elena, I'll find you in a bit." Jenna nodded her head watching her leave in concern.

Out of the three, Amari was the most sensitive about their death. She blamed herself but now, Jenna could see she was trying to move on. Trying to get back into the things that she was interested in before Miranda and Grayson died.

Amari was walking around the mansion when she saw Elena talking to Stefan making her sigh as she made her way towards the couple with a smile on her face, " Lena, you bitch. I've been looking everywhere for you."

"Bunny, don't you look pretty" Elena greeted her friend with a smile as she checked out the suit she was wearing before turning her attention back to the original founders' party guest registry.

"The founding families of Mystic falls welcome you to the inaugural founders' council celebration. It's the original guest registry"

Amari moved to stand between Stefan and Elena as she scanned the names on the list. She spoke, with a tilt of her head and squinted eyes, "Look at all these familiar names. William Forbes, Benjamin Lockwood, is that Damon and Stefan Salvatore?"

"What?" Elena asked in surprise looking between her friend and her boyfriend with a confused expression on her face. Before she could say anything, Damon and Caroline walked into the room and the eldest Salvatore brother spoke up, "The original Salvatore brothers, our ancestors. Tragic story, actually."

Amari sighed with a sarcastic smile on her face as she turned to face Damon," Great, you're here" causing Stefan to smile in amusement while Damon faked a hurt look placing his hand against his chest, " Oh, come on, princess, don't be like that"

"We don't need to bore them with stories of the past," Stefan stated narrowing his eyes at his brother and ignoring the pet name. The raven-haired male smirked, raising his eyebrows in response when Elena turned her attention to her boyfriend and softly told him, "It's not boring, Stefan. I'd love to hear more about your family"

Stefan stiffened slightly which didn't go unnoticed by Amari who frowned in concern. Before she could comment on it, Caroline spoke up with a smile on her face, "Well, I'm bored. I wanna dance and Damon won't dance with me. Can I just borrow your date?"

Stefan smiled kindly as Elena stuttered over her words trying to find an excuse but the youngest Salvatore brother didn't want to leave Damon alone with either Amari or Elena as he shook his head and stated, "I don't dance."

Damon scoffed in disbelief with a smirk on his face as he interrupted his brother and informed the three girls, "Sure he does. You should see him, waltz, jitterbug, the moonwalk. He does it all."

"You wouldn't mind, would you, Elena?" Caroline questioned the eldest twin with her eyebrows raised causing the brunette to shake her head with a forced smile on her face and told her, "It's up to Stefan"

Caroline beamed at the Salvatore brother as she took his arm, before she could say anything Amari grabbed her wrist. She gave Caroline a forced smile, "If he doesn't wanna dance, then he doesn't wanna dance."

"If you wanna have a partner so badly," Amari sighed, already regretting this when Caroline grinned and Elena snorted. "Then you can dance with me."

Stefan smiled, he could see the discomfort on Amari's face at the thought of dancing. "It's ok, I'll dance with her."

Ignoring the sigh of relief from Amari, Caroline dragged the youngest Salvatore out of the room and towards the dance floor. Amari looked between Elena and Damon with a sigh before clearing her throat, " I'm gonna look for Jenna, no doubt she'll be at the bar drinking herself to death."

Elena chuckled in amusement watching her Amari send the "I'm watching you" to Damon before walking away. He chuckled at her before turning to Elena.

Later that night, Amari was in the bathroom fixing her makeup. She had left Jenna alone with Logan who was quite persistent for the strawberry blonde to give him another chance. The curly-brunette was in the bathroom re-applying her chapstick when Caroline walked into the bathroom smiling at her best friend and asked, "You having fun?"

"Yeah, if having fun means watching Jenna insult Logan Fell. I had to stop her from smashing a plate on his head" Amari said with a chuckle, causing Caroline to snort at her friend's words.

Caroline leaned towards the mirror putting some lipgloss on when Amari frowned at the bite mark that peeked out from the scarf she was wearing, "What is that?"

Caroline hummed in confusion turning to look at the curly-brunette with her eyebrows raised. Amari's eyes widened as she moved the scarf from her best friend's neck causing Caroline to jump away from her touch and sternly told her, "Don't."

The Taylor-Gilbert ignored the blonde as she moved the scarf away from her neck revealing a brutal bite mark on her neck. "Bear, what the fuck happened?"

The blonde moved away from Amari as she readjusts the scarf shrugging her shoulders casually and told her, "It's nothing. Don't worry about it."

Amari scoffed in disbelief, narrowing her eyes at the Forbes girl, and exclaimed, "Either you're into some really kinky shit or somebody hurt you." She glared, Caroline immediately shook her head as she stuttered over her words, " No, it's nothing, it's just, my mom would kill me."

The dark-skinned girl frowned in concern staring at Caroline but another bite mark caught her eye that was hidden by the shawl she was wearing. Amari's eyes darken as she narrowed them at the blonde and questioned, "Did Damon hurt you?"

"No, of course not" Caroline quickly cut her off with her eyes widened and glancing around. Attempting to push Amari away from her when she tried to look at the marks again, She snapped, "Just leave me alone, okay? God."

Amari scoffed raising her eyebrows and watching Caroline grab her purse before storming out of the bathroom. She sighed as she grabbed her chapstick, placed it in her pocket, and headed out of the bathroom in search of Damon Salvatore who she spotted him outside.

Amari's brown eyes narrowed at Damon as she stormed towards the eldest Salvatore with a cold look on her face. Shoving his chest harshly and looking at him in disgust as she hissed, "You're fucking insane! You stay away from Caroline or I'll kick your ass. Stay away from her, stay away from Elena, and stay away from me!"

Not even waiting for a response, the girl turned to search for Elena and Stefan who were dancing on the dance floor looking like they were having a heated argument. Amari sighed, rolling her eyes and making her way towards them, "I need to talk to you"

Elena and Stefan exchanged a confused look following after their friend who led them away from the crowd, "You need to sort your brother out before I do it for you! What kind of person does that!"

"Whoa, what are you talking about? What did he do?" Elena asked in confusion seeing how angry Amari was. She practically shook in rage as she narrowed her eyes at Stefan and explained, "There are bruises all over Caroline's body, bite marks. And he's got her all confused and messed up in the head."

Elena gasped in shock, glancing at Stefan who sighed looking down at the floor before glancing between the girls. "You don't look surprised" the brunette stated.

"I'm handling it" Stefan replied crossing his arms over his chest with a shrug of a shoulder. Both Amari and Elena scoffed in disbelief as the younger girl exclaimed, "Handling it? Stefan, you should be having him arrested."

Stefan went silent for a moment before glancing between the Gilberts, "Girls please, I, I don't expect you to understand."

Elena scoffed in disbelief, a fake smile on her face, and stated, "We don't understand anything, Stefan. So why don't you just clear it up for us."

"Something is wrong with him," Amari shook her head, glancing around before glaring at Stefan, "And I'm not staying to find out."

"Look, there are things you don't know, okay? Things that I want to tell you both but I can't and I may never be able to and I just need you to trust me." Stefan softly told them causing Amari to shake her head with a saddened look on her face, " I told you trust is earned, we can't just magically hand it over."

"She took it off and I got flustered, okay? I didn't know what to say but I swear, I did not tell her, I just told her that you didn't mean to hurt me."

Caroline cried out, shaking in fear as the raven-haired vampire was dragging her away from the party. Damon had his jaw clenched together tightly in anger remembering when the dark-skinned girl had cornered him about the marks she had found on her best friend's body.

Damon stared at the blonde in front of him circling her until he was standing behind her with his hands on her hips. The raven-haired vampire pulled her close to his body as he breathed out heavily pushing her blonde hair away from her neck and whispered, "You make me crazy, you know that? It's okay, I forgive you"

"I swear, I didn't say…" Caroline started to say shaking her head only for Damon to cut her off as he shushed her and quietly told her, "It's okay. Unfortunately, I am so over you now"

Pressing sensual kisses to her neck before pulling back showing his fangs and biting viciously causing Caroline to let out an ear-shattering scream. Amari furrowed her eyebrows as she made her way down the stairs and towards the lake where she spotted Caroline on the floor.

"Holy fuck, Caroline," Amari's eyes widened in shock at the same bite mark that's all over her body. Caroline glanced around in confusion, picking up the crystal necklace that was on the ground before turning to stare at Amari with tears in her eyes, "You okay, bear?"

The blonde nodded her head with tearful eyes, her voice cracking as she softly told her, "yeah, I'm fine, I'm fine"

Amari sent a sympathized look to Caroline as her body was shaking in terror. She wrapped her arms around the blonde, pulling her into her lap and stroking her hair as she attempted to calm the Forbes girl, "You'll be alright, Bear. I won't let him hurt you, not anymore."

Random-Mailbox's Favorite Sailor Moon Fics - Week 11 - In-Progress Fics

This week I wanted to touch on some of the awesome in-progress stories that have been updated or started in the last 12 months that I CANNOT wait to see more chapters get posted for. I understand that there are different circumstances that might be preventing them from being updated but as a reader, direction they are going is very exciting and I am holding my fingers (and toes) crossed that we will get more of them soon!

Business Proposal - @sweet-dreams-of-willow-trees

This is @sweet-dreams-of-willow-trees first foray into fic writing and is inspired by the Business Proposal K-Drama. Don’t be fooled though, it is a super fun take that is refreshingly different and stays true to the Sailor Moon characterizations. Usagi goes to meet a gentleman in Rei’s place, and as the initial fibs start unravelling, Usagi agrees to a proposal that she might come to regret.  We got left on a cliffhanger, so hopefully we get to see more of it. 

Close to Home - @daikon1

Amazing roommates to (hopefully??) lovers story! Mamoru suggests that Usagi moves in with him, since they have been best friends forever, she needs to move out anyway, spends her time at his apartment regularly and, most importantly, he is secretly in love with her. There are so few stories that fall under this trope, that I am very excited for @daikon1 to post more of it. 

Once More, with Feeling! - @riverlethe

An awesome take on the Dark Kingdom Arc that is refreshingly different. We got left off a the part where Mamoru has been taken and they are trying to get him back. This one delves into the emotional impacts of the events more than any other version I have read. I think I have seen somewhere that there should be a new chapter up soon!

Surprises at Night - @kaitoscarlett

This one got posted initially during the UsaMamo Week this summer and the story coming to a head with how far we have gotten into this multi-chapter. I have thoroughly enjoyed the focus on food and drinks that has been a thread that has been woven through the chapters, as we are watching progression from enemies to reluctant friends to something more. (Side note: I would love to see more of It's the most wonderful time to pretend too!)

Unexpected Wishes - @sailorvsredmask

Here is another first effort into Sailor Moon fandom writing that has a very unique concept, so hopefully we will get to see how this one progresses. On his birthday Mamoru makes a wish. And somehow the universe makes it come true. Now he gets to try and figure out his life getting flipped completely upside down. 

The Long Way Home - @idesofnovember

If you read the comments on this story on AO3, you probably would have noticed similarities getting called out between this one and their All In story that will eventually make an appearance in our series (currently slotted into Fix-it fics). Initial premise in both is that Mamoru and Usagi part ways at some point and Setsuna comes to both of them explaining that to make sure ChibiUsa is born, they need to make some decisions quickly. I am very much enjoying this updated take on the story and how much it shines the light on Usagi’s feelings through everything we have seen so far. 

Ray of Sunshine - @shnuggletea

This is a fun non-senshi AU and has a widower Mamoru together with his son moving in next door to a painter Usagi. Even though we have only gotten 2 chapters into this story, it definitely shows potential and I thoroughly enjoy @shnuggletea 's writing style (you should check out her other stories too!)

On Monday 29 August 1994, sandwiched between a repeat of the 70s sitcom Happy Ever After and a showing of the 1988 movie version of Dangerous Liaisons, BBC Two broadcast one of the finest documentaries ever made. And now, thanks to a sudden wave of renewed interest, Three Salons at the Seaside has returned to iPlayer.

Directed by Philippa Lowthorpe, who most recently helmed a couple of episodes of the new Willow series on Disney+, Three Salons at the Seaside is a beautiful, delicate 40-minute film about (as you’d expect) three hairdressing salons in Blackpool, all of which appear to cater exclusively to women aged 70 or above. It feels like a dispatch from a lost age. Customers, no matter how loyal, are always addressed formally. Fishmongers pop in from time to time to take orders. All the phone numbers have five digits. Perms, in all three of the salons, appear to be violently non-negotiable.

This does all sound a bit “Who remembers proper binmen”, I know, but the appeal of Three Salons isn’t nostalgia. Instead, Lowthorpe was clever enough to let the women take centre stage – and it’s spending time in their company that makes for the real joy of this documentary. Although there’s an obvious class difference between the three establishments – one has its opening hours written on notepaper and taped to the door – the clientele have all very clearly clawed through mounds of life.

At the start of the film, conversation flits between casual gossip (a Coronation Street star who had plastic surgery and now looks “like a goldfish”) and how big a sofa needs to be when you only ever sit on the edge of the cushion, but after a while it all begins to coalesce around death. There are dead parents and dead relatives and, in one slightly tragicomic scene, a dead woman called Betty who has to be elaborately described because there were so many old women called Betty knocking around in Blackpool in the mid-90s.

But, overwhelmingly, it is a film about widows. Lowthorpe’s subjects all talk openly – in a bracingly no-nonsense, let’s-get-on-with-things way – about having lost their husbands, and their struggle to carve out a new identity in the world now that they find themselves alone. And, in need of something to gravitate towards, they have all been drawn to their hairdresser. These places have become integral hubs for their customers, all of whom have found community in routine.

This isn’t to say that Three Salons is a bummer, of course. Not only are the women all so fiercely indomitable that only a fool would try to mess with them, but the viewing experience is happily gauzy. Scenes pass by unruffled, interspersed with long, dreamy montages of white hair being combed, with a burbling synth soundtrack that could very easily have come from a Warp compilation. It’s Slow TV before Slow TV was a thing – made before the docusoap juggernaut swept in and tried to make all its participants famous. It is absolutely gorgeous, like a remake of Agnès Varda’s Daguerréotypes scripted by Victoria Wood.

The increased interest in Three Salons at the Seaside comes largely from the peerless (and too little watched! And too hard to find in the UK!) comedy Documentary Now! from US cable channel IFC, which has for years found rich pickings in beautifully recreated versions of old documentaries. In April, Seth Meyers wrote Two Hairdressers in Bagglyport, in which Harriet Walter and Cate Blanchett play two hairdressers who not only prise stories of increasingly absurd spousal death from their customers, but also put together the 1994 Blackpool hair salon equivalent of Vogue’s September issue.

Like all Documentary Now! episodes, Bagglyport is exquisitely done – at one point Blanchett matter-of-factly passes around a “ransom bucket” because “Mary’s been kidnapped again” – but its greatest achievement might have been reviving the source material. Three Salons at the Seaside is in turns sweetly funny and endlessly touching, but, in the years since its first broadcast, it has taken on a new patina. It has become a reminder of just how fast things move. The relationships of these women all ended. The shops are no longer there. We’re watching a way of life that has been utterly lost. And, before we know it, we are all likely to become variations of these women, broken and adrift, but battling through. What an incredible tribute this film turned out to be. I really cannot recommend it enough.

Heyo! It's been a hot minute since I visited this place and I'm starting fresh, so I figured I'd kick things off with a proper introduction post.

My name is Brittany M. Willows (she/her, "Bri" for short). I'm a self-published author and self-taught digital artist from rural Ontario, Canada. Works and WIPs to my Name

The Calypsis Project (2013) & TCP II Rebirth (2016): Known collectively as the Echo-Alpha Duology, this is my debut series! It's a science fiction/space opera that tells of an unlikely alliance of humans and lizard-like aliens in their mission to thwart a conspiracy that could see their whole galaxy upended. However, as it's currently slated for a rewrite, book #1 has been taken off the shelves haha

Bloody Spade (2021) & Bleeding Heart (2023): The Cardplay Duology is an anime-inspired YA urban fantasy about a cat-eared boy touched by dark magic and a softhearted girl with the power to cleanse it. It's queernormative, features a slow-burn romantic subplot, has plenty of hurt/comfort goodness, and a chaotic found family to boot.

The Howling Dark: This is the gay space werewolf brainworm that sprung from a dream a couple years back and has only been growing since. Set on an Earth-like planet recovering from the aftermath of a radioactive war, it follows fugitive werewolf brothers Sylvain and Illia on their search for a safe haven. It's currently in planning stages!

Bleakhouse: A more recent seedling of an idea that also originated from a dream! This gritty steampunk tale will tell the story of a mechanical girl bursting with soul, and a boy who's more machine than he looks. This has no real plot yet, but the vibes are good lmao.

Macario climbed into the car. As the men set off into the pounding rainstorm, Pika waved to them. The speed Dom drove would normally not have worried Macario, but he could hardly see the road ahead.

“I’ve never heard of Snowman Railways before,” Macario said, trying to distract himself from the velocity of the vehicle.

“Only elves and snowbirds have,” Dom laughed. “So, an FBI agent. Fascinating! Did you always want to be a detective, or did you fall into the profession?”

For Coricopat, their humans’ house really was haunted.  Even if not by the kinds of ghosts they could reach out to and speak with.  Even if they knew how to speak to a human’s remains they way they could a cat’s.  They took it on faith every time Mr. Lewis held his precious books.

His mother, an old woman named Bernadette (“Bernie” to her friends and family) lived in an old translation of The Odyssey.  It was a rather clunky translation, struggling to make the ancient poetry flow so well in English as it had in Greek, and some passages sounded a little too much like the labor of some old professor’s pen than something Munkustrap could weave on a stormy night.  But it was a first edition, still bearing a smudged autograph from that same professor even if the spine was crumbling and the pages smelled like butter and hand oil.  Apparently Bernie had still cried when Odysseus reunited with Telemachus after twenty years away, and Cori couldn’t deny that the tiny, loopy-lettered annotations around the description of Calypso’s island made them ache for some long-past life.  Mr. Lewis could apparently vividly remember the way Bernie would read certain pages, and his voice would take on new inflections, new pauses to really let the suspense of the escapes from Polyphemus or the Underworld sink in.  And Cori could feel the same presence in the creaking of the old rocking chair, the highest shelves in the larder, and the way Ms. Grenaway would complain about her knees on cold nights in the garden–almost like a second voice echoing her pains.

Gwen–the famous Gwen, the artist Gwen, the Gwen he’d married–lived in a water-damaged copy of Anne of Green Gables.  She’d dropped it in the bath one afternoon and then immediately vaulted into the sitting room and held it open in front of the fire to dry, not even bothering to throw on a towel first.  Her skin was very red and her hair a frizzy mess by the time Mr. Lewis found her, but she’d blushed (almost as red as her widower’s cheeks when he told the story) and confessed that she couldn’t bear to let the book be destroyed.  It was a children’s book, she admitted, far too simple fare for a grown woman like herself… but she couldn’t help it.  She loved it.  That was always the way Mr. Lewis ended his telling–”she loved it.”  Always in the same tone of voice, a soft and almost palpable ache in his voice, like a twinging shoulder before a rainstorm.  He would read in that same tone of voice, too, even the pages were the letters swam from the bathwater, looking off into the middle distance as he recited them from memory.  And Cori fancied they could hear her voice, too, in the crackling of the radio, the gentle rattle of the old pipes, and the whistling wind by the window that also made them feel grateful to live in a world with Octobers.

Their daughter Lizzie lived in a dog-eared second edition of The Wind in the Willows.  Or rather, she would have.  She could have, if she’d been born.  Gwen so wanted a baby, and Mr. Lewis would have been thrilled to give her one, but it was not to be.  Cori only had to tell one would-be mother that it would never be safe, and they hoped never to do so again.  They imagined the crying would be very similar to that night in the healers’ den as they and Jenny tried to ease her pain.  Still, it never stopped the humans from imagining their little girl.  To hear Mr. Lewis tell it, she would have been the spitting image of her mother, dark-haired and dark-eyed with an eye for beauty and the prettiest laugh a baby could have.  The only concession he’d make for himself was that maybe she’d be short, ignoring the possibility that he could pass on his long delicate hands, his soft and pleasant face, or the way his voice could pierce through you like no human Cori had ever met.  They never settled on what her name would be short for, but everything else about her seemed so clear.  Mr. Lewis read from the book that would have been her birthday present with the same patience and animation that he would for any child, even coming up with distinct voices for every character and playfully confessing that Grahame should have written another book for the hard-done-by weasels.  And the more he described her, the more Cori could feel the possibilities in the birdsong in the trees, the buzzing of visiting honeybees, and the ever-present purrs and laughter each night around the hearth.

“One day, I suppose all these will have to go to you,” Mr. Lewis said one evening, a mischievous twinkle in his eye as he stroked Cori’s fur.  “Promise me you’ll take good care of them when I’m gone, eh?”  Cori hated to admit that they couldn’t read, but perhaps they could ask Asparagus to teach them.  They had to give these spirits the home they deserved, after all.

Disney's D23 Expo is taking place this weekend and it's a orgy of content. The offerings from Disney and its holdings so far are:

-New footage from ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMNANIA starring Paul Rudd, Kathryn Newton, Evangeline Lilly, Randall Park and Jonathan Majors. It opens Feb. 17th.

-Friday the late Chadwick Boseman became a Disney Legend and Saturday saw D23 attendees watching footage from BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER. It opens Nov. 11th. On hand was director Ryan Coogler, Leticia Wright, Angela Bassett, Winston Duke and newcomer to the fold Tenoch Huerta who will portray Namor the Submariner.

-First footage of the CAPTAIN MARVEL sequel THE MARVELS starring Brie Larson, MS. MARVEL's Imani Vellani and Teyonah Parrish who returns as Monica Lambeau.

-We have new recruits to CAPTAIN AMERICA: NEW WORLD ORDER.. Joining Anthony Mackie is Shira Haas (who was stunning in Netflix's UNORTHODOX) and Tim Blake Nelson who reprises his villain role from THE INCREDIBLE HULK. Reprising their roles from the Disney+ series THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER is Carl Lumbly and Danny Ramirez. The team reports for service in May 3, 2024.

u-We have director for FANTASTIC FOUR in GAME OF THRONES director (and former child actor) Matt Shakman. The reboot flames on in Nov. 8, 2024

-Casting info the new HAUNTED MANSION. Winona Ryder, Hasaan Minaj and Dan Levy are joining Rosario Dawson, Lakeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto (voice only, as far as being reported).

-THUNDERBOLTS casts up. The film is slated to close out Phase 5 on July 26, 2024. Joining Sebastian Stan is BLACK WIDOW's Florence Pugh, David Harbour and Olga Kurylenko; THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER's Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Wyatt Russell and ANT-MAN AND THE WASP's Hannah John-Kamen.

*People are already gearing up to ship Yelena and Bucky. Yucky must not happen!

-Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge was on-site to excavate the trailer for INDIANA JONES 5 which will serve as a final bow for the 80-year old Ford. The film also stars Mads Mikkelsen, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook and Antonio Banderas.

- LOKI series two got a trailer and a newcomer with Ke Huy Quan joining Tom Hiddleston, Sophie DiMartino, Owen Wilson and the already announced, Rafael Casal.

*D23 presented the opportunity for Ke to reunite with Harrison Ford. In a recent interview on THE KELLY CLARKSON show, Ke revealed he knows how to swim thanks to Ford.

-Also revealed: Footage from AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER, sneak peek and title for the LION KING prequel. MUFASA: THE LION KING, which will roar into theaters in 2024. Teaser trailer for the live-action THE LITTLE MERMAID starring Halle Bailey. TLM wades to the surface, summer 2023.

Also a look at the live-action SNOW WHITE starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.

-Disney+ fare teased was HOCUS POCUS 2 - which is the origin story of the Sanderson Sisters (airing Sept. 30th) stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson and this babe,

-WILLOW: A new trailer for the reimagining of the 1988 fantasy classic was shown, and Christian Slater was revealed as a cast member. He joins an ensemble that includes Warwick Davis, Joanne Whalley, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Ellie Bamber, Dempsey Bryk, Amar Chadha-Patel and Tony Revolori.

-Fifteen years after Giselle and Robert found their happy ending in ENCHANTED comes DISENCHANTED. Joining the returning cast (Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel and James Marsden is Maya Rudolph.

-PETER PAN & WENDY with Alexander Molony as Peter, Ever Anderson (daughter of Mila Jovovich), as Wendy, Jacobi Jupe (younger brother of Noah Jupe in his feature film debut), Alyssa Wapanatâhk  as Tiger Lily, Jim Gaffigan as Smee, Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell and Jude Law as a Hot! Captain Hook.

This wasn't the only Disney project Law repped at D23. Law is in the Marvel universe thanks to CAPTAIN MARVEL, Disney Classic universe with PETER PAN & WENDY and now he joins his pal Ewan McGregor 

in the STAR WARS universe with Jon Watt's series SKELETON CREW about a group of kids who are trying to find their way home after being lost in space.

Is not Disney without animation so there was info about Pixar films ELIO, INSIDE OUT 2, Disney Animation's WISH with the voicework of Ariana DeBose and Alan Tudyk. And STRANGE WORLDS featuring the voicework of Jake Gyllenhaal, the best Twitter troll Jaboukie Young-White, Gabrielle Union, Dennis Quaid and Alan Tudyk.

-Announced: The casting of Shakira Barrera in IRONHEART starring Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams. Don Cheadle reprising his role as Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes in AMOR WARS.

-Shown: The full trailer for SECRET INVASION starring Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Carmen Ejogo (whose ex-husband Jeffrey Wright voiced The Watcher in Disney+'s WHAT IF?) , and appearances by Don Cheadle, Ben Mendelsohn and Martin Freeman.

The audience was treated to a live performance from the spoof "Rogers" musical from HAWKEYE. Very fitting as there was a special look at ECHO, the HAWKEYE spinoff starring Alaqua Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio, alongside Devery Jacobs, Graham Greene, Cody Lightning, Tantoo Cardinal, Chaske Spencer and Jacobs' RESERVATION DOGS costar Zahn McClarnon. 

D'Onofrio was also on hand with Charlie Cox to discuss the triumphant return of Matt Murdock in the upcoming DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN. Production will begin in 2023.

-Trailer for WEREWOLF BY NIGHT, aHalloween-themed special starring Gael García Bernal as Jack Russell who is not a terrier but a werewolf apparently. It's set to howl on Disney+ on October 7.

Just as father and son Kurt and Wyatt Russell are in the Disney fold, and buddies Pedro Pascal (whose trailer for series 3 of THE MANDALORIAN was shown) and Oscar Isaac are, Garcia Bernal joins his friend Diego Luna who was on hand to discuss his series ANDOR where he reprises his ROGUE ONE role of Cassian Andor.

*Many people think Luna and Garcia Bernal met making Alfonso Cuarón's Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN, but they are childhood friends and costars

whose parents worked together in theater. Their parents were rehearsing and doing costume design for a play while Gael was born and were still doing the play when Diego was born.

Other LucasFilm wares revealed like TALES OF THE JEDI, an animated anthology series, so a Disney Junior animated series STAR WARS: YOUNG JEDI ADVENTURES and STAR WARS: THE BAD BATCH whose second season is pushed back from September 28 to January 4, 2023.

-While no word on when the BEAUTY AND THE BEAST spinoff GASTON AND LEFEU will begin production (star Luke Evans promises it will happen), Disney will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the animated film with a special -featuring live and recorded performances - will star Josh Groban as the Beast, Joshua Henry as Gaston and Rita Moreno as the narrator. The choreography will be done by the master, Jamal Sims.

There was also info on the PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS series, the NATIONAL TREASURE series NATIONAL TREASURE: EDGE OF HISTORY, an original series titled AMERICAN BORN CHINESE, a long-from series IWAJU which is described as a love letter to Lagos, Nigeria; comedy series THE MUPPET MAYHEM, series two of THE PROUD FAMILY: LOUDER AND PROUDER, new movie PROM PACT, the original series THE SANTA CLAUSES with Tim Allen returning, short-form series ZOOTOPIA+ and John Stamos was on hand to tease series 2 of BIG SHOT. He also took the time to talk of the last time he spent time with his late FULL HOUSE costar Bob Saget - the two went to Disneyland.
