A list of fics from various fandoms where I have not collected enough entries to justify giving them their own post. Included here you will find fics for Word of Honor and Grave Robber's Chronicles (DMBJ)

“Wangye,” the eunuch, Qiu Bin, said, sounding uncomfortable.

“Leave.” Zhou Zishu closed his eyes.

“Just… your bride should be on the way. Since the Emperor has refused to postpone the wedding—”

When Prince Jin sends Zhou Zishu to look for the Glazed Armor, Zhou Zishu's heart isn't in it but he is duty-bound to see this mission through to the end. But then his path crosses the one of Wen Kexing, a mercurial scholar with many secrets of his own, and things only get more complicated from there.

But then, Zishu has seen what's really inside him, the pitiless tiger who lives in his guts. And he might be the only one who has. Kexing let the other boys off with bruises, didn't he?

Zhou Zishu is ready to be done with Tian Chuang. He's ready for his seventh nail, and ready to wander before facing his eighty one brothers with a bowed head in the afterlife. He will do this after, apparently, one last mission that's simply too intriguing to pass up.

The Ghost Valley has sent a letter past its borders, asking to attend the Heroes Conference of the Five Lakes Alliance. The Five Lakes Alliance, unbelievably, has accepted. Both no doubt have hidden intentions, and Prince Jin wants eyes and ears on the scene. Zhou Zishu can't quite bring himself to deny his own ravenous curiosity enough not to accept.

The stunning beauty that shows up with the girls of the Department of the Unfaithful, the one who introduces himself as Wen Kexing, is universally assumed to be a favorite plaything of the yet unseen Ghost Valley Master. His beauty and charm may be enough to captivate all the others into underestimating him, but Zhou Zishu knows a killer's eyes when he sees one. Wen Kexing is a puzzle he'd like to figure out, and Zishu himself can't say he isn't also captivated by dark eyes and a smile that wouldn't be out of place with blood in its teeth.

His mouth snaps shut on the request, but it’s already too late.

Wen Kexing turns to him and says, “I’m sick of this.” His tone is almost cheerful. There’s still more malice laced through Wen Kexing’s mouth than Zhou Zishu can remember hearing directed towards him before.

It shivers across his body, and Zhou Zishu closes his eyes briefly before carefully setting down the wall-hanging he’d wanted help replacing. “What do you want to do about it?” Zhou Zishu asks, shifting his weight to prepare for the attack he suspects is coming.

Wen Kexing plays with his fan, silently considering him, and then a smile spreads across his face. “I’m going to make you forget that word.”

The thing about pushing people past their limits is that it makes them dangerous.

It is possible that this is a truth Wen Kexing and Xie Wang neglected to account for when making their grand plan.

Bureaucratically Ever After by TK_DuVeraun

Wen Kexing was chosen to ceremonially marry the immortal in the Journey's End Festival that came around once every one hundred years. It's not a big deal, especially since there's no clause saying he can't hook up with the official walking him through the ceremonies, Zhou Xu.

Dangerous Illusions by manic_intent

Yuanxiao Festival was one of Zhou Zishu’s least favourite times of the year. It wasn’t the problem of thousands of lanterns clogging up the streets and rooftops of the Imperial City, making it more challenging to conduct Tian Chuang business. It wasn’t the throngs of people who packed into the Imperial City from beyond to enjoy the spectacle, or the increased risk of a fire hazard, or the thousands of perfectly edible mandarin oranges being thrown into the river. It wasn’t the fact that Tian Chuang business often ground to a halt during the lunar new year period, leaving Zishu at loose ends. It was all of that, all at once.

After the events of Episode 12, Wen Kexing wants to know what Zhou Zishu meant by saying he has a terminal illness. The Seven Nails of Torment are revealed. And feelings are explored.

“How long do you have?”

“About two years.” Pain twisted in his chest as he watched this truth hit Wen Kexing. He felt guilt for doing this to him. Perhaps he should have told him from the beginning, warned him before...before they became so close. It was a truly unfair turn of events, to meet someone and feel this kind of connection, only to find out it was only temporary. He’d wanted to avoid causing just this kind of pain, but had found Wen Kexing so impossible to deflect.

Ill Omens by manic_intent

The drinking game that Zishu had lured Wen Kexing into playing was reaching a dangerous stage, with both of them growing muddled from drink. Yet Zishu still hadn’t yet managed to get the handsome young man beside him to say anything that might hint at the person behind the smiling mask he wore. Surely there was a limit to Kexing’s composure, uncomfortable as it was to have to play such a trick on a person Zishu liked. It reminded him of every story he had ever heard about his kind. Treacherous and selfish, disloyal and ruthless. Distracted, Zishu lost another round, but Kexing’s joyous laughter stole away any disappointment he could feel.

My brain mostly ignored the main characters of this show and hyper-focused in on Liu Sang from the Reboot series, so almost all these recs will feature him in some way with a few PingXie thrown in as a treat.

His Ouxiang doesn't recognise him, that's pretty obvious. Liu Sang hadn't expected him to, he'd changed so much and his Ouxiang... hadn't. A tiny part of him had held out the irrational hope he would though. He's been asked before why he idolises Zhang Qiling, and he knows he'll likely be asked again, Wu Xie is the curious type, with a vested interest in Liu Sang's Ouxiang.

He has the usual lie ready of course, not that it's entirely a lie so much as... not the entire truth. Liu Sang doesn't want to tell anyone ever the real reason he feels so indebted to his Ouxiang.

A Swiftly Tilting Planet by Slutspeare

Yincangui is Where Lost Things Return, and Wu Xie, captain of the Wushanju , has been trying to find it since his uncle went missing fifteen years ago. The only thing is that no one is quite sure that it actually exists, except for Liu Sang, who manages to finagle his way onto Wu Xie's ship and into their quest. Without any solid proof or idea of where they're going, it seems like Yincangui is always going to be a lost dream... unless the crew of the Wushanju can unravel the threads of the universe and lead themselves to what they've been searching for.

Liu Sang is hired by the Huo clan and sent to a Jiumen Association meeting. His job should be simple: Pay close attention to President Zhang and act as a human polygraph. He soon realizes things are never as simple as they seem. Finding himself in the middle of a political power grab, Liu Sang makes a choice. He hopes it's the right one.

When Wu Xie was seven years old, he snuck away from his guardian during one of the digs that Sanshu took him to. Only things went wrong, the entrance collapsed, and it took a week to dig the child out from the near collapsed tomb.

They expected a body. They prayed that the child had somehow survived, but seven days without food or water for an adult would have been deadly, a child had no chances of survival at all.

They found Wu Xie deep in the tomb, sleeping on his little backpack. He was warm and healthy, confused at why the adults were yelling, looking like he’d just stepped into the tomb five minutes ago.

He had already been informed that he was supposed to get down into the temple and start tracking the rival team that had got there before them. The rival team who, according to what he’d overheard, had been the ones responsible for the dozen or so mercenaries now leaving the village in body bags.

Mr. Jiao had been very polite and congenial when he told Liu Sang that he was going to hunt down that team that went down first. It hadn’t been a question, and the mercenary with the rifle pointed vaguely in Liu Sang’s direction was a very clear, if unspoken, indication of what would happen to Liu Sang if he refused.

Mr. Jiao’s people controlled the only way in and out of the village, and they also controlled all the vehicles. Liu Sang could continue to be one of Mr. Jiao’s people, or he could be one of the dead bodies loaded into the truck.

Before Wu Erbai could hire on Liu Sang, Liu Sang had already accepted an offer from Mr. Jiao. What he found when arriving for that job, however, was nothing what he expected - particularly the fact that it turned out that he was now working against the man he'd idolized for so long.

Ye Baiyi stared at him, at the face he knew better than his own. At the smile that never failed to make his heart race, at the eyes that held more stars than the night sky. He could feel his lips tremble and his nose start to run. His throat was tight and his voice was raw, and he wiped his sleeve over his damp cheeks and said, "Changqing."

"I'm here," answered Rong Changqing, just as he'd promised.

"Ch-Changqing," Ye Baiyi said again, hating the wavering of his voice, the wobbling of his jaw, the shaking of his entire body--but unable to make it stop, unable to help himself.

"I'm here," said Rong Changqing, arms coming up to embrace Ye Baiyi very carefully. The touch was so welcome, it was almost painful--it felt so good to be held that it almost hurt, and Ye Baiyi could not stifle the sob that came from the depths of his heart.

"Changqing-ah," he wailed, only this time it was muffled by Rong Changqing's robes, and so no one else but the pair of them could hear the broken sound, or Rong Changqing's soothing murmurs of, "I'm here, Yiyi. I'm here."

I literally JUST finished this wonderful oneshot. It's no secret that I love the HanWenZhou OT3. This is a pre-canon AU that explores a "what if" between Zhou Zishu and Han Ying, with Qin Jiuxiao acting as wingman. Actually, I say it's a oneshot, but it's the third part in a series now. However, it still stands alone quite nicely. In short, Han Ying and Zhou Zishu are still at the beginning of their relationship, and they find they need some alone time.

Let's see! I'm definitely not cognizant of any pattern, and these fics are mostly posted a long time away from each other, so it might be interesting to see...

Once the spring festival came upon them, every year without fail, central Nanjiang would flood with people of every tribe and corner. (The Great Shaman's Revered Wife, XiYuan)

Xie'er realized one morning that he had somehow completely missed his rain season approaching. (A palace within our dreams, WenZhouXie)

It began with Zhou Zishu tossing him the wooden bowl he was holding. It rolled, and came to clatter on the stone floor. (A hundred jewels between teeth, WenZhouXie)

Mahaad dragged his hands down Seth's back, following the dip of each tense muscle, felt Seth twitch as he pushed his thumbs against the base of his spine. (Too much (I'm falling), Seto/Mahaad-centric, entire Jaspershipping ot5)

Well! We can safely conclude that a.I like to set the scene and b.I do not tend to open with dialogue. But I think the even clearer patterns, although unintended by the game were the polyships and the song lyric titles. Lmao this was fun!

You would think, after a month of voracious reading of BATFAMILY fic, that I would at least begin to slow down, because I still primarily read I’m Having Dick Grayson Feelings And I’m Making That Everyone Else’s Problem, but I have also discovered that I have Jason feelings, I have Tim feelings, and I have Damian feelings. Which of course I knew before, but what I really learned is that other people have made this my problem now, too. And by that I mean that there’s amazing fic on all of the Bat babies and I am not immune. So, you may still have to scroll a bit, but if there’s an idiot badass with black hair and blue eyes, you’ll hopefully find something here to cry about with me, because what are any of us even in this fandom for, if not for the Feelings Hell About Vigilantes With Emotional Problems? I want it to feel like the same universe :(

Hm, let's go with 26. Would you rather write a fic that had no dialogue or one that was only dialogue?: I'm partial to purple prose (look listen I like flowery and poetic idc idc lol) when writing but dialogue only would be a fun challenge. It'd force me to think about what's most important to convey in such a limited presentation.

Ha, I have an embarrassing amount of WIPs collecting dust right now but this is the most recent one I've been tinkering around with. The Rise of Phoenixes, little canon detour from ep. 38, Ning Yi-centric - parental issues & such

48. What's the last fic you read? Do you recommend it?

The last fic I read was last snow by yiqie and I would highly recommend it! It's a post-canon WOH fic. Delightfully creepy, a lovely exploration of ZZS' relationship with grief, punishment, and choosing to live in the face of the conflicting feelings he has surrounding them.

46. Do you prefer writing on your phone or on a computer (or something else)? Do you think where you write affects the way you write?

I prefer writing on my computer because I type much faster on a keyboard but I'm fine writing on my phone if an idea hits me and I'm not near my laptop. I feel like I tend to come up with my best ideas when I'm either on the verge of sleep or just waking up so those usually end up on my phone, in varying states of coherence lol. My computer is where things get tightened up and refined.

39. Is any aspect of your writing process inspired by other writers or people? If so, who?

I take inspiration from everywhere really! If a story grabs me, I try to identify what about the style I like and see if there's a way to tailor it to fit my own writing. I'm endlessly in awe of how well Priest crafts a story and I don't think I'll ever get to that level lol but the way Priest brings life to all their characters is something I appreciate and admire. Of course, there are countless fic writers I'm always impressed by as well, @northofallmusic @hansbekhart and quigonejinn on AO3 to name a few but everything in my fic recs on AO3 are stories that have really grabbed me and stuck with me.

On this day one year ago, Word of Honor first aired to Chinese audiences. It was a series which came as a surprise to many, and one which didn’t take long until people were excitedly sharing their newest find with both their friends and others upon the internet, encouraging them to join and watch along. The early days themselves were a fun filled adventure. Many fans hurried to catch the new subtitle releases as they dropped onto sites like YouTube, while Youku’s release schedule changed to air the series quicker as attention grew. International fans went as far as to follow translated tutorials in order to make Youku accounts so they could continue watching via Youku’s own streaming service. And just as the fandom family were saddened into believing they would have to say farewell to these characters and the world which they had quickly fallen in love with, they were soon pleasantly surprised to learn that the majority of the cast would be returning for a sold out two-day concert event. While the airing season alone had been an excitable time to be a fan, that love only continued to grow long after the show aired, continuing to attract new fans through word of mouth and community rewatch events. Even now, it is apparent to see that the little show that stepped into our lives with a very limited budget and everything stacked against it quickly became something beloved to many, and it is both from the passions of the original cast and team as well as the fandom which followed that made it so.

Over the past year the fan community has created many kinds of works and been involved in a number of incredible projects, including two lovingly put together zines ( @shlzine and @wohzine), as well as last years Big Bang event (@shlbigbang) and the future Reverse Bang event ( @shanheling-reversebigbang). Many have also shared their own individual works with the community, expressing their love through many mediums including that of art, writing, graphic making and videos.

However, the community has suffered great grief and hardship as well as the highest of highs throughout the past year, yet the continued strength of fans has also shown their great resilience in what has since become a wait for justice. With touching projects created to show Zhang Zhehan and his family support after the events which transpired back in August, the community has proven just how much it is capable of showing love and compassion, not just to the cast they admire but also to the other friends around them whilst moving through this difficult time. One of the most recent projects includes the Zhang Zhehan Chinese New Year event, which invited international fans to leave their messages of blessings and well wishes for both Zhang Zhehan and his family.

In honor of Word of Honor’s anniversary, Immortal Wanderers would like to say thank you. Thank you to all the fans camped out upon this mountain beside us, who continue to keep this fandom alive through the love and joy of creation. We see you, we appreciate you, and we love you ⛰️ 💖

One of the earliest multichapter woh/shl fics. It's dear to my heart because when the fandom was just starting and blossoming, this fic felt like a gift. But aside from that it's a version of wenzhou at their peak and darkest and the struggle to let each other live. It now has an ongoing sequel that's also worth reading :)

Manic_intent's fics always give me a sense of wonder and it's so hard to choose one but this....this one... What's not to love about gremlin wenzhou even as they reach the underworld? That nod to all the versions of the endings wenzhou got is like Priest writing extras to her beloved novels. Now that I think about it, this feels like an extra chapter to shl. A new but familiar beginning to a story so loved.

Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu are learning how to lean on each other in times of peace, and how, sometimes, the medicine to heal is not a thing, but a person.

A lone leaf had fallen over them, coming to rest in Zhou Zishu’s hazelnut hair. It was a vivid red amongst the dark brown and called to Wen Kexing. He plucked it out, twirling it in his fingers, and waited for the mockery. For someone to tell him that his mother had been too nice and he too gullible, but it never came."

Autumn, rain, a head on a shoulder's beloved and wounds both seen and unseen. Told from Wen Kexing's perspective, we see Zhou Zishu, and it is beautiful, that I too wanted to say "Just a little more". This fic paints a simple but one of the most beautiful scene of wenzhou ever written.

One of the earliest fanvids on youtube. There's a reason it has 200k+ views. The song choice is perfect that ever since I watched this video, I would always think of wenzhou when I hear "Dandelions". The editing is superb, from the coloring to the scenes picked. I come back to this video everytime I want to be reminded of wenzhou's early dynamic, the flirting, Ah Xu's exasperation, and two people bruised and bloodied, weighed down by their pasts. It's a reminder that even when woh/shl's early eps might seem light, it is in fact the saddest episodes if the whole show.

On a deeper level that Zhou Zishu is reluctant to confront, Wen Kexing scares him.

I've read this fic (and its companion piece) so many times, I love it with all my heart. It doesn't matter that I know everything that happens at this point, it always breaks my heart and mends it again in the most wonderful way. This story makes you feel everything so deeply, from mundane sensations to the character's most intense feelings. Even though it's somber at various points, this story never fails to cheer me up when I'm sad, maybe because it's so easy to relate to its themes and it provides a hopeful resolution to all of them.

You meet a man in a bar and go home with him. He's.......strange.

Or: one person Wen Kexing fucked before he met Zhou Zishu who'd say the whole thing was hot, but SO weird.

One of the best outsider pov's I've read, and such an interesting look into WKX's character in all his weird glory, in a modern au no less. The pov character's voice was so distinct and has you intrigued from the start. I can't describe the feeling you get going from the first to the second half of the fic, but each time I reread it, it feels just as amazing as the ones before.

A Curse Upon the Stars → written by quaint_marauder

Summary:

One is the Chief of Ghosts, while other is the Keeper of the List of Unfaithful.

They say only death and stench of blood permeates in the valley of ghosts. Humanity was a merely a weakness, just a weapon against you in the hands of an enemy.

So what of love? Can a ghost hope for a chance at love? And would the love of cursed souls rain destruction or could it maybe be their salvation?

This story has it all, from amazing worldbuilding to mystery, comedy, horror, and everything in between. Wenzhou are placed in a setting that's familiar but at the same time so different, and it's amazing to see how that affects the progression of their relationship, which btw is delightful!!!! As shown by the tags, it deals with many heavy subjects (also, the author is always careful to expand on the content warnings each chapter), so keep that in mind going in. But yeah, this fic has me at the edge of my seat with each new chapter!

It haunts me that I almost missed this fic because it's brought me such genuine joy! It shows a version of the future that I'd never considered before despite how naturally it comes to be, and it's so detailed and fleshed out that I was immersed in its world right away. You get emotionally invested in all the characters, even those with less 'screen time', and you end each chapter feeling hopeful and a bit melancholic. Reading it has been such a wonderful experience.

YBY has a vision of years in the future (the show's events). He decides to rescue a young WKX and GX about it. Such an incredibly tender journey as YBY figures out how to care for GX and WKX and begins to care about them more than he ever planned to. I love the dynamic between WKX and YBY, it takes very fun notes from canon, but there's a surprisingly sweet affinity that springs up between YBY and GX that lowkey steals the show sometimes, and the way he, WKX, GX, and ZZS all settle into a whole in the end is so good. Sometimes you come down off your mountain and you just feel everything despite yourself.

This like, a highly slice of life thing seeing immortal Wenzhou as they are in vaguely modern times through the eyes of someone hired to help out in the rest stop they run on their mountain. With possible flavors of reincarnation, who's to say. It's just...quite lovely, and lets you live in the sensory details and in some OCs' lives while still giving Wenzhou's eternal wedded bliss and relationships built with new people.

This author writes SO much lyrical, slow modern AU that doesn't shy away from canon's sharp edges and it's all very good but this is the quintessential one of their fics for me. Zhou Zishu arrives in California to escort Chengling and babysit him for a while; meets cook Wen Kexing and his collection of found family, gets attached to Chengling, and decides to stay instead. Excellent ensemble cast that comes with the romance, delicious-sounding food, slowly falling into a life you want instead of just drifting alone.

Summary:

In a darker world where the Combined Six Cultivation Method fails and the snowy mountains become the burial mounds for his shifu and shishu, Chengling trains his martial arts under Ye Baiyi to be able to do only one thing: go back in time and save his found family.

I love time travel fic and I especially love time travel fic where a member of the younger generation goes back to help the older one. Here, Chengling trains with Ye Baiyi after a bad-ending AU until he can, like, use Combined Six to travel back and save Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing and ends up in his younger body. So there's some excellent bittersweet seeing people you love again, some "hmm, my disciple doesn't seem quite right," and fix-it for a thing the author broke in the first place along with things canon broke, which is always fun. This is tagged "falling in love with your soulmate all over again in the middle of a nightmare" and that is so accurate. Instead of what actually happened when he captured Zhou Zishu, Jin Wang decides to try to bring Zhou Zishu back to him by essentially like...drugging him into visions where he can confront and kill Wen Kexing. Except, that's not always what happens, and it definitely doesn't work. There's elements of time loop, and dream sharing, and a thousand ways things can go right and wrong, and Jin Wang being unable to break the loyalty and love Zhou Zishu feels towards Wen Kexing even when Zhou Zishu doesn't quite remember or understand. It's twisty and painful in a fun way and honestly a very Wenzhou getting-together story.

This fic is such a happy read! It's funny and fluffy and in between that we also get ZZS's insecurity to if WKX actually wants him. The premise itself is hilarious and I smiled while thinking back on this fic several days later.

This fic hit me right in the feelings. It explores the lives of Han Ying and the rest of Tian Chuang through the eyes of Bi Xingming. It is beautifully written and I love how the author really fleshed out Bi Xingming, he is perceptive and funny as a POV. The fic is full of melancholy and it made me ugly cry. I love it.

This is a fic where Han Ying lives and gets to be a part of Siji manor. It's so well written and full of angst (hello Han Ying's unrequited feelings), but also of hope. Han Ying's feelings punced me in the gut as he tries to navigate his place in Siji manor and around WenZhou, when he has detailed insight to the abuse ZZS suffered in the past. The fic is very raw, yet tender at the same time. Which is a super effective combination for making it stay in your thoughts.
